FileMaker Server v7 - v11

Discussing issues with Server version 7 - 11 ( .fp7)

  1. Started by FM-Brian,

I am testing out FileMaker Pro Advanced Server 9 on a Windows XP system. Following the instructions I installed IIS and FMS. Everything appeared to work fine until I got to the point where I got to the server deployment. I am trying to deploy the server with XML, XSLT, Instant Web Publishing and PHP, installing the FileMaker PHP version. Whenever I get to the web server test page, I always get a Return code = false or -1. I have studied the docs and cannot determine why it will not start. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Brian

  2. I have set up Filemaker Server Advanced setup and working just fine. I've got databases working over the web, but I want to do something kind of odd. The Apache web server that is hosting the web components is running on port 81 because I have a LightTPD web server running as my public facing server. I have several Rby on Rails apps being proxied through the LightTPD server. I have done the same with the Apache server but all the links FileMaker create add ":81", to themselves, thus forcing the web client to try to use that port. I want it to be going through 80. Is it possible to tell FileMaker to not append that port number?

  3. ;) I had a devil of a time upgrading server 8 to 9 quite a few errors - I know I had uninstalled filemaker 8 server to the letter with Tech support on the phone - but I still got an error of the server admin not connecting (filemaker help desk not sure why). It turns out it was due to my proxy as soon as I turned off my proxy it went through fine and as soon as I turned the proxy back on it will had the same error. I now have to access the admin from another computer that has no proxy for it to work. Another error was installing the Web and PHP (filemaker help desk not sure why apache was running) I had to break down the installation to each part to get it to work and I h…

Hi All, can anyone offer advice/opinion on the following proposal: The requirement is is to install FM 9 Server (or in the short term, FMP 9 sharing over the LAN) The proposed configuration, is to have a single box, running two "VMWARE server" virtual machines on debian linux. One virtual machine will run XP Pro with MS SQL Server 2006 Express Edition installed and running FileMaker (FMP initially, then FMS9). The other virtual machine will run Win2003 standard server R2 with user sessions running in Terminal server. The FM GUI will run on the Win2003 TS machine connecting to the XPpro machine over the (virtual) LAN. This is a LAN only set-up. …

Hi everyone, I want to run a script on FM Server 8 automatically after hours. It is a report that is supposed to be done at the end of the day but people keep forgetting. I didn't think I could make it run when the file closed because different people run it and if someone is still inputting data I don't want it to run. Can this be done? I have looked through the help menu and it mentions script files. I don't know what they are. I did a search in here on script files and it found pretty much every post that mentions the word script or file. Can anyone help me? Thanks in Advance Mike

  9. Hello, I'm running FMServer 8 Adv. and have a big problem. In the Admin control window of the FMServer, I have 3 databases, 2 Samples and one custom. All of their status' reads "Normal", nothing is closed or disabled. My problem is that when I open FMP8 and try to remotely open the databases I have on the FMServer, I can open the 2 samples but my custom one isn't there. Has anyone ever been able to get the Server Admin Tool to show clients by FM account name instead of computer name? I know one can have a different account name for each file hosted but we go through Terminal Services which, of course, shows everyone as coming from the same computer name (and same IP, etc.). It is a big pain not knowing who is who. Any suggestions? Thnx.

  15. I installed the developer FMSA 9 (single machine) and have tried to run IWP. During the install I specified the web server to be Apache (Mac OS X 10.4.10) at 127.0.0.1 using port 80 - everything fine. Although now I seem unable to change the port. I also configured the sample file for fmiwp access. When I try to connect from a browser client, specifying the IP address of the FMSA 9 machine all I get is the Apache welcome page. I'm familiar with the FMP IWP which displays the list of files available, so I expected the same in FMSA 9. Can anyone give me a clue. Thanks

  16. I run a set using Filemaker Pro Server Advanced. The internal network runs perfectly. However we have a few users who need to be able to access this set up from the net. We can access these file with IWP, but the functional short-comings of IWP make me want to render these files accessible from the net. I have a broadband connection with a dynamic IP address. I apologize in advance if this is not the place for this question, but here I go. My organization wants to make a searchable online database of objects that we record in a FileMaker database - basically we want people to search our objects by artist, style, etc. Our problem is that we are not sure what programs are necessary to mitigate the information from the FM database to the web. Does FM Server or Server Advanced fulfill this function? Our current webmaster wants us to buy a program to mitigate our FM data into a MySQL database, then another two programs to organize the information into a nice layout & then deploy it onto the web (I'm not sure if I ca…

  57. I have FSA8 server running on one machine along with WPE on the same machine. On the second machine I installed Web Server Module and Admin console and entered the IP address of the machine containing WPE. When I enter http://localhost/fmi/config it says page not found and I notice there is no fmi directory in the webroot on the machine I installed the Web server module. I am more familiar with the OS X installation. I am following the instructions from the FMSA_web_install.pdf. Any suggestions that might help are appreciated.

  58. I have just posted a new data base using Filemaker server Advanced 8 and I am using the web publishing option. I set up the accounts and priviledges so that when people login they will have to change their password (I checked the box). If I use the data base on my computer it works fine, it walks me throught the password change process. But I want this to work when people hit the database from the web. Right now when they hit the site it pops up that the password has expired. If I leave the change password on login box unchecked a person can log right in. Is this option not available from the web or am I missing somthing? Please send help.

I have put the files in the correct folder and I think they are configured correctly. When I open SAT Remotely, the files show up and all show as normal except the most important one which shows closed and cannot be set to normal. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have converted a number of FM databases from FM6 to FM8.5. The converted databases are all copied to the Databases folder of FM Server. When I start FM 8.5 and choose Open Remote I can see all the datases except for one. The ony way to open this database is choose File-Open. When I do this and check under Edit-Sharing-Filemaker Network the box Don't display ... is not ticked. Strange thing is that in the Currently Open Files box the name of the database I just opened is displayed while with the other databases this box is empty. I think this might have something to do with this problem. Anyone an idea?

If I open a solution locally on a G3 700MHz machine with 640MB of RAM, it runs a lot faster (400%) than if I open the solution using a remote client on a G5 Dual 2.5GHz connecting over 100MBit LAN to a G5 Dual 2.5GHz FSA server with 4GB RAM. The facts: The TOTAL size of the solution, all files and records, is 12MB. FSA version is 8.0v4. Client is 8.0v3 FSA server cache is set to 128MB. SAT indicates that Cache hit is 100%. All this is Ok for me, My question is does users also have to follow all these steps to start the appln or is there a simple way for them, like just click on shortcut and it starts the application. We have FMS8A on a dedicated duo core server. We are experiencing performance issues where all queries (via CWP and FMS8 clients) are slowed up to 20 seconds, simultaneously. On the actual client, just about any action will pause with the infamous coffee cup. A user could be clicking in a field to start data entry, or closing a file, or opening a file, or running a query, starting a new record, etc. I feared this was due to load (we often have 15 clients up with 20 files open each in addition to a handful of CWP users). I also thought it might be due to old databases that have been converted several times over the years (originally developed in FM3) with ma…

I set the configuration is FM Server to back the database up to an internal harddrive, but it will not create the files. I would like to have scheduled backups to the harddrive as well as to a FTP site. Any suggestions or help welcomed. Thank you.

  90. This is probably a commonly asked question, but I can't seem to find the answer to it. In the olden days, if you wanted to hide a file from the Open Remote Dialog box, you'd set the file as Multi-User (Hidden). It appears, now, that there's a checkbox in the Sharing -> FileMaker Network that says "Don't display in Open Remote Dialog." However, on files shared over Filemaker Server, that option is grayed out, presumably because that only lists files I have open locally. I can't seem to find an equivalent option in the server options, though I'm sure it must exist somewhere. Help?
