I've been working at a clients location setting up a new solution I wrote for them. Their DB is being hosted on a Campus Filemaker Server. I've no problem making fixes to scripts via the script manager on a workstation, off of these files. Another issue came up, so I set up a FMS10 developer server (TechNet Member) so that I could test my solution with multiple clients and the server at my home office. When my solution is on the server, I can't get into Script Manager (It's Grayed out.) I'm logged in with full privileges. I've never had this problem before. Is it due to FMS10? I was under the impression that the Campus server was FMS10, but now I'm not sure. Thanks.

As the subject explains, our DB Server is not showing the correct files in the Database section of the Admin Console. I had a large number of 'old' versions of databases that I wanted to remove. At the same time, I have another new database that I want to open. The new database was added to the folder containing all other working DBs. The file did not appear on the list, but I realized that the server was already hosting it's maximum number of databases. In the server Configuration, I increased the maximum number of files to host (at this point, it's at the maximum, and still not working). When this didn't work, I went to delete the 'old' databases. I deleted t…

I currently have FM9 (Upgrading to 10) on a windows server and am having some reliability issues. I am a mac person and am considering switching to an OSX server but if someone has experience on which OS supports FM Server better that would be extremely helpful! Also, I may even consider hosting this myself but heard that FM is a pretty network heavy application. We use IWP exclusively and average 15 connections around the clock. Our local cable provider has a business class connection but I'm not sure that would be fast enough as it is only 6mb upstream. Wow, I guess I have more questions than I realized. Any help would be appreciated! Randall

I have FMS 9 and read with interest the possibility of getting a corrupt file with a power outage. I am waiting delivery of a APC power supply with powerchute software (I think it will send commands for proper shutdown). Do I need to close the files first, then stop server? or can I just stop server? On restart, I have read to disable the automatic restart of hosted file. How else should I restart the hosted file? I dont want to do this manually everytime there is a power failure! thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm relatively new to FileMaker Pro hosting, and i have just inherited the administration of a FileMaker 7 Server, which has a mixture of Filemaker 7 - 10 file on it. I'm wondering if someone can tell me if there will be problems hosting a FileMaker 10 file on this server? Has anyone out there had experience with this? Cheers

I own FM9 Adv, 1 license. We have 4 Macs, MacBook, G4, Mini, G3 iMac. Currently FM DB is on my MacBook and I need the secretary (G4) to start using the DB and IWP won't do it due to printing needs. The needs will be to host the DB on the G4 or on a third computer that both of us can access. I suppose if I host this on a 3rd computer, that it will require a 3rd license, would I be better off getting a sever version for the above situation? -- Also, if I host the DB on the G4 through an 802.11g connection, how will performance of the DB on my MacBook be? -- Would there be any advantages to FM10 for the above?

Forgive me if this isn't the right forum - I'm currently using 5 (not server) and installed 7 (also not server) as a first step toward catching up. But when I convert my current DBs into 7, all the text is blurry, like it's displaying a low-quality .jpg. It's all in Times New Roman but changing it to something else doesn't help. How can I fix this, please? I'm using Vista Home Premium 32 bit (NOT XP). Thanks.

I'm not sure how else to describe it other than, "it's REALLY strange!" I am running our former FM8.5 and FM7 databases just fine on our new FMServer10 software. I just completed a new Filemaker 10 database and am now sharing it through the server---but I'm having a lot of issues with this file and this file only. The FM10 file is designed that it opens under a default limited user account (specified in File > File Options)...but it won't open under that account. It prompts for a username and password! So I added an "On Open" script that does an automatic Re-Login without dialog...and it won't do that either! It still prompts for a username/password and t…

Hello, Today I upgraded from FM server 9 to FM server 10. I was excited about the new SMTP feature of the server which would allow me to send emails direct from the server. I was under the impression that FMS10 actually came with it's own SMTP server built in, but now I'm not so sure. It appears that I need to use another third party SMTP server (gmail for example). Is this true? Could anyone explain what this SMTP feature of the server actually is and what it's useful for (if anything)?

Hi everybody Unfortunally this topic is locked, so I write a new one. My problem is this: I use FMSA10 with Lasso 8.5 on a Mac server. In a FM shopping cart solution I made a little script that exports a few fields after a record was added. The script is called vom Lasso with the FMScript command. Everything works fine until the export command. Then the script stops immediately. No file was created and nothing exported. When I start the same script timed by Filemaker Server everything works fine! This means the script is ok. Does anyone has an idea why a script executed by Lasso is not working the same way as if FMS calls it? The script is execut…

I firstly perform an FM Script (Export) then a System script. I am receiving a Status of "system script error" whenever my schedule runs! Even though the shell script performs fine when run from the Terminal. The shell script is just the "mysqlimport" command (with appropriate parameters). I have checked the Execute permissions of the mysqlimport command and all have execute rights. Any thoughts?

Please can you help I have files that were originally developed in version 9 but have been further developed in version 10. They run without issue as stand alone databases but when the are used via FMS9 the local machines crash. Sometimes it is so bad it takes the server down with it. The local machines have no specific task that they crash on and have been everything from old Powerbooks to new Intel iMac's. The FMS9 is also running on a Mac, and was without problems until the version 10 clients and/or these files were introduced. I have run recover and compressed the files and none of this has any impact. The recover process does not find problems with the files. Is …

I have a database with a single remote user who has been logging in regularly for years. When she logs in now, the layouts don't fully load. For example, a menu page of buttons only loads about half the buttons. Thought it was a connection speed problem, but she downloads at 3000K, and my server uploads at 400K. Server & client are both PC's on FM 9. I can login remotely just fine with my Mac. Of course, "nothing has changed" on her end, and "everything else works!" ;-) Her husband it an IT guy, has not been able to solve it, but he is saavy and easy to work with. Any ideas?

I have FMP 10Adv newly loaded on a Windows Server 2003 with 4 cores, 4 GB, and 1.8 GHz per core. I access the system with Remote Desktop. I am running a table migration script against a table of 160,000 rows and 79 fields, migrating to 7 different tables with a variety of rules and calculated conversions. FMP seems to be only using about 50MB with a total of 800 MB in use (nothing else really going on, except a couple of IE windows open, but not used). It looks like this will run about 16 hours (note: after 40,000 records and 8 hours, I figured out to turn on Freeze Window ... so I am expecting an improvement) Here's the thing: The CPU is running at a…

I realize that this is probably a dumb question, but before we upgrade, I just want to make sure that I won't need to change everyone's clients if we upgrade the server. We want to take advantage of the web features of server 10. Right now, we're using server 8, and everyone has 8.5 clients. Our databases are in .fp7 format. If we go from server 8 to 10, will we need to change the clients / database formats as well? Thanks a lot! Dave

I am new to filemaker server. We are getting ready to purchase it. I would like to know if the server gives each user thier own "found set" to work with, or if the found set is just one instance across all users. For example, if user X does a find for part 123 and user Y does a find for part 456 - both at the same time, does each get a found set with thier own part, or is there one found set listing BOTH parts? We have a series of parts that users will be searching and adding to thier found set and printing a layout on them - so I need to confirm each user will be able to print thier own finds without it mixing in with other users. thanks.

Hi, I have a pretty big problem here. I have an account layout a contact layout and a Comments layout. The ID for the account layout is attached to the ID for my contacts layout. If account ID = 12 and new contact is clicked Contact ID will = 12 If it is clicked again on the same account it will add another contact with an ID of 12. For some reason in IWP everything works fine if there is 1 contact to an account. IF there is 2 contacts on the same account anytime any of the fields are clicked on the account page IWP crashes. All the buttons and portals work on the accounts page but you cant edit anything. You can edit all the contact information related to these account…

I have a series of databases hosted by a company in California. This company is not particularly customer-centric so, unless you are an IT person, it is difficult sometimes to get a question answered. I'm trying to download a copy of these databases for some offline development but cannot figure out how to get a copy off the server platform. The attached screenshot shows how far I have been able to get. Can somebody tell me what the next step is to make this happen? Thanks, Jarvis

Hi There Some further info.. See also my original post 06-24-09 03:44 AM - Post#334155. I have upgraded the Server and Desktop to the lastest versions of Mac OS . The Server has also been upgraded to the lastest OS and FMP I have done the recovery and actual rebuilt 1 of 37 databases (I don't really want to rebuild the other 36 databases) and the problem is still there even with a complete new file. When you go into some databases and some layouts FMP crashes... the desktop needs to be restarted by the power on off button (Mac restart command not working). If you don't restart the desktop Filemaker thinks you are using the same licence key. This is my Hard…

I've been developing my own FM database for some time now and am in need of updating my existing database with a newer version. Since the newer version was developed separately from the original I now need to update the original while keeping all my data intact. Since this is a common activity I was hoping that there would be an existing utility (or FM Server function) that would automate this process, but I've been told by one FM developer that there is no such thing. Is this true? If so, how do you update an existing database with a new version and keep all your data intact? Do you have to write a script?

I wrote a Filter Script. It does a "perform Find" on an unstored calculated variable. I made a mini interface with conditions, and wrote a script to fill in the find box, and perform the find. This was working perfectly on my local machine, and I did a few tests on the server before, and thought it was working. But now that I am live, I noticed the exact same script doesn't work when it is on the server. I checked to see if there were any incompatible functions, but all seem fine. Has anyone had any "find" and "set field" scripts that stopped working after uploaded to the server? Am I supposed to do something to a script to make sure it works right on…

I'm not sure I understand how filemaker server works at all. I was hoping it could convert my databases into php files and I could just ftp them to a website. It appears that unless I can select a value, Filemaker Server will be useless. Can anyone advise me?

Hello. I was hoping to find a general forum for problems and I fear that I'll be reaching a very small audience by posting in this sub forum only... FMSA 8 running on Win2003. No problems except that SOME Intel based Macs running Mac OS 10.5.x and Filemaker Pro 7 can't see databases on the FMSA server. They can ping each other and Wireshark shows SOME activity between the two on Filemaker's ports, but the list of databases never appears. Attempts to connect to databases directly by specifying the fmnet: URL also fail. The clients would prefer not to upgrade to Filemaker Pro 9 if possible. Any ideas? I know that Filemaker, Inc no longer supports FM Pro 7. An…

I need scheduled script (once per day) that will export all data to SQL table. This SQL table is source for additional requirements (web source, further analysis, etc.). I have tried to make it successful via FileMaker Server, but it seems that server can schedule only 'web compatible' scripts. And those scripts are only for some operations in database, but not for ANY kind of export or manipulation with external databases. I don't know why exists this limitations... Scheduling of scripts was main reason for using a new server version, but now it was worthless investment... Does anybody knows how to trigger (or schedule) a script that can execute SQL at sp…

I'm trying to use fm server 9 for the first time. when I launch the admin console, i just get "deployment assistant" in my task bar, but nothing comes up when i click on it; if i right click and click maximize, i just get a gray screen, and this is even if i wait an hour. i tried restarting my computer, but it didn't help. hi all, i have a funny problem with fm server 9 adv and odbc and iwp. I´m not sure if it is a odbc/iwp specific problem, so i post it here. exactly 3 weeks ago, i installed fm server 9a (the version from technet), with iwp switched on and odbc switched on. All worked fine and well for exactly three weeks. Then over night, no changes made, no patches installed, nothing reconfigured, i first have seen that i lost odbc connection to this server. I checked java (it is 6.7), i tried to deinstall fms 9a, reinstalled it, tried to install fms10a. No chance. No odbc connection, no iwp. All i can see is that odbc gets no connection, and iwp is down. When i try t…

Hi I have a calculated field that successfully returns a value when accessed via a script run on the client, however when the same script is run as a FM Server(8) script, it is not returning values. The calculated field is unstored and performs an aggregate function based on a TO relationship (simply, count the number of siblings of this parent). Again, when I run this on the client it works, but as soon as it runs on the server the calculated field returns nothing. FYI the script is running in one database and is accessing the parent table and sibling in another database. There are custom functions installed but these are not being referenced in the c…

We have a two-machine config running on Windows Server 2003. All of a sudden when we login in with the FM Server Admin we get an "Admin Server Connection Error: Unknown error has occurred". We have to reboot. Then when we are logged in the WPE engine is not running and when we try to edit the config, it can not find the IP address. This all stopped working without any human intervention. The Server is running behind the firewall and the WPE runs in the DMZ. This setup has been running fine for about a year. We installed the latest version of Filemaker Server Advanced for Windows 2003 Server. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? Thanks, Werner Net…

Hello, I hope somebody could help me. My client keep on dropping connection with the filemaker server 10 hosted on server 2008 sp2. So far what I logically could see is that in the log viewer it shows a warning message about client authentications failed on some of the databases and then a few events later the client drops and we get the message that the client is no longer responding; connection closed. The weird thing is that they are in these databases or have no issues opening them, they show up in the list for them to pick and the server is set only to show the databases that they have access to. I talked to FM today - they said I should do a test tonight -…

I have an FMPSA running on an iMac with Leopard OS which hosts about 10 databases. I have had no problems connecting from various machines / configs until recently. I have Filemaker 9 server advanced running on 2 boxes. The main server has all the databases. It's set up to use a second server as the web server and web publishing engine. It says everything is fine. On the second server, I have IIS running and need to set up the PHP assistant options (I think). When I go to launch the Filemaker 9 server, it gives me the message: admin server connection error the admin console cannot establish a connection to the admin server When I try to use IWP and Php Site Assisstant, it works okay. FM10 shows that Set Web Viewer is a compatible server script step but I keep getting an error -1 in the server logs. This is my url structure: "http://###.###.#.#/folder/folder/" & table::record_primary_key Here is a quote from help: "Compatibility This script step is supported in web publishing and in a FileMaker Server scheduled script, but the Go Forward and Go Back actions are not." Hello, sorry if this thread is misplaced. I wasn't sure where else to put it. If I have a FM database that was created with FMP9, is there any way to use this DB as a stand alone read-only application? So if I have a DB and want 10 other users to have access to it, is there any way of making it readable by other users that do not have FMP installed? Sort of like exporting the DB as an application? Is there anything in the FM suite that can do this? It's a small database, and I'm looking for a way for 10 users to be able to read it without having to purchase FMP for all 10 of these users. Thanks for the advice.

I am a new user to FMPro. I am using ver 9.0.3. I have a database file loaded onto the FMpro server ver 9.0. What I would like to do is put a shortcut onto the client's machine so they can click on the shortcut and it will open the db file that is housed on the server. I have open the file->send link. Copied and pasted that into the "create shortcut" on the desktop of the client. When I click on the shortcut I then have to go to File->Open Remote and go through the steps to open the file. How can I make it so that just clicking on the shortcut opens the file?

Hey everyone; I have a client whose FM Server on 2003 SP 2 has crashed 3 times in the past week. In the first case, reportedly the free space on the C drive went from 20GB to zero. After the second instance we set up better reporting, with perfmon running in the background. Third incident was this morning. After FMS stopped responding, the following error was written to the log: "fmserver.exe, version 9.0.3.316, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address 0x0002caa2." OK, simple question here. I just downloaded and installed FMSA 10. Or, at least I think I did. I purchased several items from FM and downloaded what was labeled to be FileMaker Server 10 Advanced, but the software doesn't say "Advanced" anywhere on any screen, not even in the About box. It does show a maximum connections of 999, so that seems like the Advanced version. Is the software not labeled "Advanced"?

(caution - super novice posting ahead) We're moving a small collection of standalone databases to a new FM10 Server. The upload goes fine, and the database itself works fine after updating the global file references. Our problem is with all the scripts in the database. All database references in scripts flip to 'unknown'. Is there something we missed in the upload? We have dozens of scripts, and we could fix them manually but if we just goofed up the upload or an easy global fix is available, I'd much rather go that route. The databases were all developed in FM8 and earlier on Mac clients. The server is 10 and running on a Windows Server. We're install…

Hey there, Im totally new in FileMaker, was told to get it and im suppose to learn myself asap. Therefore Im still kinda blur with everything in it and still in the learning stage. I have FileMaker Server Advance on a machine running on Windows Server which serves as a dedicated server. And FileMaker Pro(trial version) on the other machine serves as a client. Problem: I cant seem to access the sample database hosted by FM Server from FM Pro. Tried Open Remote, Im able to see the host name, but there are no files available. Checked FM Server, status of the database is Normal. Hopefully all the experience users here can give me a tip or two on thi…

Hello, I am trying to enable access restrictions to certain IP addresses in Sever 10. I would like to have all local addresses 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 and one remote site address. It doesn't like wild cards like 192.168.1.* Is there a way to add a range of addresses? I can find any documentation.

Hi Guys, I have a client who is using FileMaker Server 8 with Pro 8 client quite successfully for the last couple of years. They need to upgrade their server, which will come with OS 10.5, so I am going to recommend FileMaker Server 10 as this is confirmed to work on that OS. I don't particularly want/need them to upgrade to FMPro 10, What is the potential of FileMaker Server 10 serving about 60 files for FMP 8 clients. Any help would be much appreciated on this. Many Thanks Jalz Many Thanks Jalz

Hi guys, I don't know if I should post this topic here but what the heck... I just start working with Filemaker Pro Advanced and I'm making my first database. Let me explain the issue: I'm making a very simple database for orders but I want to use 2 Mac's so people won't have to wait very long to add an order. So I want my database to run on a mac and that the other 2 users can access them with a password and login. Can you help ? Thanks

Morning all, I have some queries here about how Filemaker server actually communicates with the FM clients, and what is the main limitations on speed. We have been developing FM systems since FM v3 and are well versed in FM and its deployment. We have recently deployed a system that is used for around 100 clients based around the UK. The databases are hosted on a windows box with dual 10meg connections (fail safe). Now when on a LAN the system loads fairly instantly, but takes around 20 seconds when hosted. Fair enough, the system is extremely responsive once loaded. However there are some meaty reports that cannot be run over the WAN setup. Which got me thinki…

Hi I am about to implement a multi-user db on FM server 10 on Windows and I know that two things are certain: 1. I will have bugs in my coe 2: The users will want functions they had not told me about. this means updating the system moving forward. What tools (if any) are there to aid the migration of new/updated scripts into a 'running' system.

I'm posting this in the FMSA 9 form because I believe the issue stems from something in the FMSA 9 rather than ODBC itself. Here's the issue: I've set up FMSA and enabled ODBC and turned ODBC sharing on the server at one site without any issues, however I've done the same thing at another site and the ODBC cannot connect to the files that I need to connect to. One strange thing is that when I turn FMSA off and connect to a backed up file located in a backup folder the connection goes through without a problem. FM admin console is showing that ODBC in on, the files are set up for sharing ODBC and there are no erros showing in the event log. The event log shoes that xDBC…

My company has offices in Los Angeles and Shanghai, China and in early 2006 I built a database to coordinate communication between our two offices. I initially hosted the database with Datrium, and everything was fine for about a year. The log in from China was always slow, but usable, and everything was mostly okay till early '07. Then the speeds from China started to get really slow, and the most debilitating problem was that it would take 20-30 minutes to log in and the connection would frequently cut off for no reason. I did a ping test and found that the speed from China was 500-600ms - pretty slow. So I moved our database onto Point in Space servers, where …

Greetings fellow FileMakers. : I'm running a Dual G4 Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 server hosting FileMaker Server 8 Advanced. Main server is only running AFP and Web services, nothing else. This past weekend my main hard drive started failing so I ended up having to "rebuild" the Mac OS X Server setup and reinstall everything. All is well again except this one thing that I can't resolve. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. When I log in from my MacBook Pro, my address now shows up looking like IPv6, but it's not an address that I can find ANYWHERE on ANY machine on the network. I've turned off IPv6 on all machines to no avail. Does anyone have any i…

Hardware/Software: Server: FMS 9.0.1 on G4 Xserve OS X 10.4.11 - IP 192.168.100.3 My system: FMPA 9.0.3 on MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.6 Plus: FMP 9.0.x on various computers in two offices, both Mac and PC. Our company setup is basically two offices linked via a VPN, one with Macs only, the other with a mix of both Macs and PCs. My office contains the G4 Xserve which serves our FM DB and all the clients (in both offices) connect locally via it's static IP address of 192.168.100.3. This setup has been working without fault for years. The problem is that some staff members now need to be able to remotely connect from outside of the VPN. Our ISP has opened port 500…

This probably isn't a problem with FMServer itself but since it involves multiple users in a client-server relationship I thought I'd post it here... I have found that FMPro 10 clients have a buggy behavior if multiple users run the client on the same machine. The typical scenario is that user is accessing the Server but is not finished and leaves the client running. A second user comes along to the shared machine and, not wanting to disturb the first person's work, utilizes the 'fast user switching' feature of Mac OS X to login without logging out the first user. The second user can access the same database but all error messages appear as blank dialogue …

I recently came across a license conflict problem that reinforced to me the importance of properly uninstalling FMS software when migrating to a new device. After having preflighted my database using FMS 10 on a desktop Mac I shut down this server and tossed the /Library/Filemaker Server folder into the trash (not good). After this FMS was installed on a second dedicated server and ran fine until the day that I restarted my desktop machine. Apparently FMS demon automatically restarted on the desktop machine, generating a license conflict. The server abruptly shut down and refused to restart. The solution was to kill the Filemaker server processes on the desk…

I had my database up and running via instant web publishing and I could create and edit records and everything seemed to be working fine. Then I deleted all of the (test) records I created (I deleted them straight from Filemaker Pro), and since I deleted them, I can still create new records, but I can no longer edit them. I get Error 101 - Record is missing I used the files created by the PHP site assistant (and did not edit editrecord.php). Using echo $recid; I verified that the correct record is gett…

Here is an example message I am seeing in FMS10 admin console. Client "User name" authentication failed on database "Database.fp7" using "User name [fmapp]". This implies that 'User name' failed to open 'Database.fp7'. All of these files are inter-linked either by relationship and/or scripted access. I have a few databases hosted on FMS where I've changed the layouts after uploading the databases to the server. I'd like to be able to change the initial window size the client sees when the database is first opened, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. I've tried closing the database in the server, then opening the unshared file in the client and resizing the window, but that doesn't seem to take effect when I reopen the file in FMS. Is there some other way to do this?

I'm running FileMaker Server 10. I have about 4 FM Scripts which are triggered from the server at night. Most of them are fairly simple scripts with a find, few set fields, an IF statement or two, and a loop that works its way through a found set of records. It's not doing any imports or anything fancy. 3 of the scripts when run from FM Server show a "FileMaker Script Error" in the Status column. However, when I go back and see if the script did its magic, it did so I have been ignoring the errors. The most recent script that I put up there is not all that different from previous scripts. There is a find and set field. Just about the only thing different i…

We have ~70 users accessing a complex FM 9 solution hosted on a Windows XP box running FM Server 9 Advanced. Users access it either via workstations on the local network (mostly Mac, some Windows), or via our terminal server, which is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 box. My problem: our users employ a number of very specialized medical and psychological terms in their entries, and need a shared user dictionary. I have set up a user dictionary file in the users directory on our primary file server (OS X 10.4) as well as another file on the C drive of the terminal server. It is possible to select these user dictionaries and use them; however, upon next logon, on either…

I have just tried to update FileMaker Server Advanced from 9 to 10. The program installed OK, but the server is now very sluggish. Examining Task Manager on the Server, it seems that one process - fmadminserver.exe - is hogging the CPU. running at 98-99%, only occasionally dropping momentarily to something less. Total memory usage is only about 20-30% of the 1.25gb total RAM. Opening the Server Admin Console shows some database files to have opened, while others are "opening". Unless I can get this process under control, I will have to get our IT guys to roll-back to the previous version. Any clues as to what might be happening and/or causing this?

I was just curious if anyone had any experience using a solution on FileMaker server over a mobile internet connection. Not WiFi, but the internet connections available through cellular providers. I'm working on a project right now, and it would be great to take advantage of this technology.
