I have3 a match field that I would like user's to type in a Puchase Order # so they can filter to a specific order when we receive a product from a vendor. I'm familiar with the High/Low filter when it comes to names gMatch_Name = Col... (User input) High_Name = Colzzz (Calc Field) Low_Name = Colaaa (Calc Field) How do you do it with numbers? I have a layout that is used to select records to put in a match table (attendance) that links two other tables (students and courses). It accomplishes this very well using two portals. One on the left that shows all students, and one on the right that show the related (attending) students only for a given course. In between the portals are buttons with scripts that allow you to directly add or remove records from the right portal by selecting a name from the left to add, or selecting a name from the right to delete. Good day too all, I have a question with a portal refresh issue I have run into. I am using two DataBases(DB), one as a calendar, another as my LeadManagement table. What I am trying to accomplish is to display records from the LeadMgnt DB on the Calendar for any given day, through a portal. Because I don't have a different database for Appointments, the LeadMgnt file has appointment dates in it, and these records are of families, so multiple people from one family can show up on one date, annoying! I am new to Filemaker(though I have been using Access for many years), so this is a very newbie question. I have just created a portal from a one-to-many relationship in our volunteer database. I created a layout based upon the "many" table that I call the "data entry" screen, where volunteers can enter information into the table that will then appear in the portal. However, the information is not appearing in the portal. If I enter the data directly into the portal, it shows up in the portal, and it shows up in the data entry layout table. i have a layout with a portal.The layout takes the records from its own table and the portal from a related table.The problem is that one record from the portal is like a ghost.The row of the record in the portal is blank i cannot delete it,i cant change it,and i cant see it.But if i click it it sends me to the related record in another layout which is blank too.I don't know if it's a bug of filemaker or something else.Please if you have any sugestions i would like to hear it.

Hello, I am using FM 6 and am trying to figure out how to make items in a portal link to their record when they are clicked on. In other words, I have a portal that shows related records (names). Hello, I've created an inventory database and I've come up against a problem with my portals. What I've done is set up 3 tables, Supplies, Ordering, and Inventory. I've combined all three of these tables into one layout using tabs. The layout header shows the Supply table, and the layout has 2 tabs, ordering and inventory. Inventory records are created by selecting what you ordered from the ordering tab. (See Attached) My problem lies with the inventory tab. I want to see the inventory and where we got it from. i have a problem that is probably very simple to solve. i am copying data from one portal (in one layout) to another portal (same table - different layout). i am using a looping script which copies from 'portal row 1' and pastes to other 'portal row 1' and then moves onto portal row 2 and so on. the way i move to each consecutive portal row is through a calculation and a counter which increases by 1 at the end of each loop step. i cannot however get the loop to end or exit after the last portal row (i cannot use <<next, exit after last>> since this always takes me back to the first portal row when i change layouts. please be so kind as to help out.

I have a database with many relationships - however I have one layout that is based upon "events". The portal I need to dispay is not displayed accurately unless I change the entire layout (in layout setup) to "events4" (another relationship) which than messes up the other fields. Any ideas?

I'd like a button in a portal row to take me that record. The portal rows display partial information from unique records with unique IDs. The unique IDs are displayed within the portal roows. I've placed a button triggering "show related" in the portal, but it doesn't work. I set up a test by changing the script to go to a field in that is displayed in the portal, but the button instead only selects that feld in the parent layout. Is there a simple way I can set up a button within a portal to display the record in the particular row that the button is displayed in?

Hello, Enclosed I have left a copy of an application I am currently using in my office to track clientele and calls. As of late I have been looking for a better way to clean up the area noted as the "Call Log" as well as print simple reports that calculate the number of 'calls' made per logged in user. Currently I am using the call log to act as a sort of container per record, all that is left is to create a gathering tool that will pull the number of dated items within each container (per record) and compile them in a simple list that shows how many calls have actually been attempted and the respective result. It seems like a simple answer but I can't see it. I have a database with Companies, People and Services, various details and invoices. There is a portal in Companies layout that shows serviceIDs plus performed by that company, 30,000+ records. How can I get a view of the portal that isn't filtered by company? (or people or details) It should be the same portal view that shows when looking through the individual companies, just all the records for all the firms altogether at once. Thank you!

I've got a relationship set up between Students and Enrollments. I have a layout in the Student table with a portal to Enrollments. The portal is set to show Class, Class URL, and Password. Seems pretty straightforward, but the first record is the only one that shows all the data. All of the records show the Class, none (except the first one) shows the URL, and very few show the password. What could be causing this? Thanks! Susan

I am having trouble using autocomplete within a portal using a value list drawn from a matching field of a different table. Is there a workaround or should I be using a different strategy? I hold classes with variable attendance, charging per class attended. For each class date, I want to enter a list of attendees onto an attendance list. Hi, I'm creating something akin to a ticketing system and I want to create a new 'status' record everytime I update the status of this ticket. So, the 'status' table contains the ticket ID, the date modified, and the text. How can I make a portal on my 'ticket' page that shows *all* the text I typed in for each update, and not just one line? I've followed examples for portals, and all I've seen are 'line items' where the data is only one line deep anyways, not a paragraph of data. Am I coming at this the right way?

In trying to use a single-row scrollable portal to display large blocks of text, I've encountered a couple of strange behaviors that I haven't been able to figure out. Basically, the text within the portal is affecting areas of the layout outside of the portal (behaviors are described in detail in the example file). Before I abandon this approach, does anyone know of any "rules" to apply for such extended uses? Or am I completely off of the pavement in trying to use portals this way? Thanks for any help. Good Day - I have a customer file, I want to view past invoices for each customer in a portal in the customer file. I want to look at the customers entire history so I need to portal into Invoicng 2007, Invoicing 2006, Invoicing 2005, etc. and show all past invoice history. What's the best way? I was thinking that I could do this with a portal so I posted here. And I have not yet been able to do what I want. Which is to have a list of the found set appear on the screen without leaving Browse Mode. My Browse Mode screen is a record about a single plant, and I search using various criteria to create a list; and then want to click the list so I can see more info about the plant. I hope this isn't so confusing. I tried a portal based on a self relationship but this won't work. Am I trying to do something impossible? I also tried having a new window appear, with the found set in a list view, but was unsuccessful withat that as well. Michael

Hi, I am very new to this application and I am trying to have repeating regions for calculation part of the invoice. Thus, Hours, Labour Description, Unit Price and Amount. However, underneath I would like any unpaid invoices added. I have looked at other solutions, and they seem to use a Portal Setup, but I can not see where this information is coming from. I am trying to derive an exclusion list from related tables. Simply - I have 3 tables, Groups, Contacts and Joiner. There are many Groups. There are many Contact. One Contact can be in Many Groups and the group membership is stored in the Joiner table. Using different layouts with portals I can 1. Show a Group and in a portal all it's related Contacts and I can 2. Show a Contact and in a portal all the Groups it belongs to. In my main database, I want to set a field from "NO" to "YES" if all fields in the portal have a specific field set. Specifically, I've got a portal with academic transcript information, one line per institution. I set the RcvdTranscript field to YES once I've received academic transcripts from a particular institution. Hello, For some time I've been using a script to copy the content of a portal to a textfield. It's been working great and I tried to take it to the next level by adding more portals and an equivalent number of textfields. The portals seem to be working without any problem. It seems however that the script to copy the content is only working correctly for the original portal. For the added portal only the first line is copied. Weird thing is that the first line is multiplied by the number of rows in the other (original) portal. Hi, I have read through a bunch of articles on this site about hiding buttons in portals and I still don't quite get it. I want something very similar to what is present in a lot of the built in templates that come with Filemaker 8 (ie Lending Library). I need a button to delete records in a portal, I only want the button to be present if there are portal records. I have an Invoice layout (invoice table) with portal rows(invoice data table) of invoice line items. Would like to be able to duplicate the invoice and have the line itmes in the portal be duplicated as well. This would create a new invoice with the serial number incremented by one and the portal data duplicated with the new serial number. Hi all. Noob. 8.5, Mac. I've got a quick & dirty database that allows one to enter related child records via a portal. Not the recommended solution, but it's really just for (my) training. It appears that when you begin to enter data in a portal row, the next row's fields become 'active', highlighting field borders and activating popup menus (although they all remain blank). I'm sure that a new record isn't being created, but it's odd looking, and implies to a user that another record was created. The portal's deletion mechanism also implies that there's one there. The related table has say, 20 records relating to the first master record. When I want to print the one master record i wanto print the 20 related text bits with it. I have a database with the following tables: Customers Orders Products I have done a layout for the order that is linked using a relationship to the customers table (Customers::CustomerID linked to Orders::CustomerIDfk). It works fine However, I have also done a portal in order to select the different products bought by a customer. I have established a relationship between the order table (Orders::ProductIDfk) and the Product table (Products::ProductID). Is it possible to switch a portal based on changing a value from a value list? i.e Let's say the user chooses store # 100 and there is a portal that lists all the items for that store. I am trying to creat a portal where each row has many choices that can be made and not simply one drop down list of several choices. As an example lets select to purchase an ad: First would be a drop down list of the publication type (weekly mailing, seasonal, annual directory, etc.), then based on which one is chosen we now have a second value list that directly reflects the first choice. The second drop down is the location that the publication is sent to, if the first choice was weekly mailer than they may get 5 locations available but if they chose annual they may get only 2 locations available. I don't know if this is a script question or a Portal question. I want to create a portal to show a brief summary of related records, that I can do easy enough. But, I want the user to be able to click an icon inside the portal row that will cause all the details of the related record to show up in a "highlight" box to the right of the portal in the same layout window. The position of the record in the portal is determined by a sort on default fields that are set as part of the create script. Hi - I'm trying to create a layout for assigning items to something like an invoice. No problem creating a portal to show items already assigned (ie related) to that invoice via the invoice ID. But I'd like to have a second portal on the layout, showing items that have not yet been assigned to any invoice to pick from. I created a db to track inventory, assigned my own Product ID to each product. I purchase the same product from different suppliers depending on price then I create a purchase invoice (based on my suppliers invoice)to enter the new purchases. On a layout I have a portal displaying related records. There are several fields in the portal which means that I can only display so many records - no problem I just have multiple portals for the same relationship using the "Initial row", "Number of rows" parameters to have side by side portals display the data. I have been struggling with FM for a while now, finally have the big things working within the database. I am using a portal to added items to a sales quote. My users now want to be able to add a row to a portal if they need to add an item to the list. The same idea as adding a line in excel. Is this possible? The Quotation layout has a portal showing Line Items. The file works fine except that I have a Calculation field (Unit Price CAL)working filed to look up the Product cost repeating field and displaying correctly. I've done my best going through documentation and websites, but I can't figure out why portal records disappear after entry. The records in the underlying table do not disappear--they just don't show up in the portal. I have attached the file. The layout in question is "Employees - Form View." Try selecting a project from the drop-down menu in the portal. You can enter data in the other fields, but once you finish, it goes away. You can check that the underlying record still exists by going to the "Assignments" layout. Obviously, I want the records to show up in the portal after I have entered them there. This is a school setting and I have a db of all students (stinfo.fp5). Yes, need to work with 5.5 on this. Hi Forum, I hope I am posting in the good section. I am a newbie in Filemaker Pro and am I doing my very first database. In the database (people) I have for every record a picture of the person. But people can have several pictures and I would like to be able to choose witch one from the list would be on the first page. Ex: In a data base of models, there is the main record of the model with all the details and here picture. Then there is on an other layout all her pictures. Hi, I am designing a database for a training company. I keep track of client (big companies), learners (the employers of the big companies), and courses. In the courses layout I have a portal that shows which learners did the specific course. In the clients layout I have a portal that shows what learners are employed by them. Now I want to create a portal in the client layout to show what courses has been done for a company. I created the portal and it works (getting the value through the learners), but it repeats every course, for every employee of theirs that did the course. How do I omit the duplicate values in the portal to show only a list of courses done?

I have a Point of Sale system that I am trying to modify that I made. There are 3 tables Order LineItems Inventory The LineItems is a portal on the POS form. Each product has a custom barcode printed for it. The barcode simply is the product's SKU number. Hi, I have a portal that lists in each row different db filename in spec. folder and layout name in that db (all of that coming from another table). I need to have one script that will take that name and open that file only. Hello, I can't seem to find how to make a link between the results in a portal and a field outside that portal. The portal contains dates from a table. These date are ordered. The newest date is up/the oldest beneith. I want to display 1 (only the most newest) date in a other field not related to the portal. I have two (2) questions that I cannot seem to locate any documentation on. 1. How can I do an alphabetical search on pop-up menu within a portal? I've got a Client table with a portal to a Client Address table; it is linked by ClientID and AddressType; I limit the AddressType to three radio button options on the layout: Home, Work, or Other. The portal displays only one row on the layout. This way, when I click on the radio button AddressType, the portal displays the correct address, and if one of the addresses doesn't yet exist, it allows me to create the new address for the selected AddressType. My users want to sort a portal by any column. Easy I thought..... Make the title into a button and use it to set the value of a global field (in the same table as the portal) and set the portal to be sorted by that field. The field gets set by the button script but the portal doesn't change. I then added a refresh window step and it still doesn't work. I also flushed the cached data - still no good. I want to have a script that takes me to a main record (a random one), then it should go to the portal in that record (the portal are related records, each record having a date), create a new child record in the portal and put todays date in it. There doesn't seem to be a script command that allows you to create a new child record in a portal. If you're in the portal at the last record created you can do the command, go to next portal record, but if you're in the main layout you'll only get to the first portal record, not a new one. I have a database that is based a lot on portal filtering and summaries of these filtered results. The filtering seems pretty easy when everything you want to filter is in the same table. However, I have a couple fields in my portal which are calculations based on other tables. e.g. The portal table is Events, the other table is highlights. A field in the highlight table is Category. I am having trouble with data not coming through a many to many relationship to a portal. If this possible to do? Here is the scenerio: Lets say there are 10 items for sale are on consignment to a dealer. Hi, I'm trying to do a trick that was suggested by Helpful Harry back in 2004. The idea is to add a new record to a portal but not on the last blank line. Helpful Harry had found a way of using two portals based on the same related file, where one portal would show all records and the other portal would show only new records.
