  2. I have a layout that is used to select records to put in a match table (attendance) that links two other tables (students and courses). It accomplishes this very well using two portals. One on the left that shows all students, and one on the right that show the related (attending) students only for a given course. In between the portals are buttons with scripts that allow you to directly add or remove records from the right portal by selecting a name from the left to add, or selecting a name from the right to delete.     Good day too all, I have a question with a portal refresh issue I have run into. I am using two DataBases(DB), one as a calendar, another as my LeadManagement table. What I am trying to accomplish is to display records from the LeadMgnt DB on the Calendar for any given day, through a portal. Because I don't have a different database for Appointments, the LeadMgnt file has appointment dates in it, and these records are of families, so multiple people from one family can show up on one date, annoying!     I am new to Filemaker(though I have been using Access for many years), so this is a very newbie question. I have just created a portal from a one-to-many relationship in our volunteer database. I created a layout based upon the "many" table that I call the "data entry" screen, where volunteers can enter information into the table that will then appear in the portal.     i have a layout with a portal.The layout takes the records from its own table and the portal from a related table.The problem is that one record from the portal is like a ghost.The row of the record in the portal is blank i cannot delete it,i cant change it,and i cant see it.But if i click it it sends me to the related record in another layout which is blank too.I don't know if it's a bug of filemaker or something else.Please if you have any sugestions i would like to hear it.

    Hello, I've created an inventory database and I've come up against a problem with my portals. What I've done is set up 3 tables, Supplies, Ordering, and Inventory. I've combined all three of these tables into one layout using tabs. The layout header shows the Supply table, and the layout has 2 tabs, ordering and inventory. Inventory records are created by selecting what you ordered from the ordering tab. (See Attached) My problem lies with the inventory tab. I want to see the inventory and where we got it from.     i have a problem that is probably very simple to solve. i am copying data from one portal (in one layout) to another portal (same table - different layout). i am using a looping script which copies from 'portal row 1' and pastes to other 'portal row 1' and then moves onto portal row 2 and so on. the way i move to each consecutive portal row is through a calculation and a counter which increases by 1 at the end of each loop step. i cannot however get the loop to end or exit after the last portal row (i cannot use <<next, exit after last>> since this always takes me back to the first portal row when i change layouts. please be so kind as to help out.

    I have a database with many relationships - however I have one layout that is based upon "events". The portal I need to dispay is not displayed accurately unless I change the entire layout (in layout setup) to "events4" (another relationship) which than messes up the other fields. Any ideas?

  12. I'd like a button in a portal row to take me that record. The portal rows display partial information from unique records with unique IDs. The unique IDs are displayed within the portal roows. I've placed a button triggering "show related" in the portal, but it doesn't work. I set up a test by changing the script to go to a field in that is displayed in the portal, but the button instead only selects that feld in the parent layout. Is there a simple way I can set up a button within a portal to display the record in the particular row that the button is displayed in?

  16. Hello, Enclosed I have left a copy of an application I am currently using in my office to track clientele and calls. As of late I have been looking for a better way to clean up the area noted as the "Call Log" as well as print simple reports that calculate the number of 'calls' made per logged in user.     It seems like a simple answer but I can't see it. I have a database with Companies, People and Services, various details and invoices. There is a portal in Companies layout that shows serviceIDs plus performed by that company, 30,000+ records. How can I get a view of the portal that isn't filtered by company?     I've got a relationship set up between Students and Enrollments. I have a layout in the Student table with a portal to Enrollments. The portal is set to show Class, Class URL, and Password. Seems pretty straightforward, but the first record is the only one that shows all the data. All of the records show the Class, none (except the first one) shows the URL, and very few show the password. What could be causing this? Thanks! Susan

  25. Hi, I'm creating something akin to a ticketing system and I want to create a new 'status' record everytime I update the status of this ticket. So, the 'status' table contains the ticket ID, the date modified, and the text. How can I make a portal on my 'ticket' page that shows *all* the text I typed in for each update, and not just one line? I've followed examples for portals, and all I've seen are 'line items' where the data is only one line deep anyways, not a paragraph of data. Am I coming at this the right way?

  27. In trying to use a single-row scrollable portal to display large blocks of text, I've encountered a couple of strange behaviors that I haven't been able to figure out. Basically, the text within the portal is affecting areas of the layout outside of the portal (behaviors are described in detail in the example file). Before I abandon this approach, does anyone know of any "rules" to apply for such extended uses? Or am I completely off of the pavement in trying to use portals this way? Thanks for any help.     I was thinking that I could do this with a portal so I posted here. And I have not yet been able to do what I want. Which is to have a list of the found set appear on the screen without leaving Browse Mode. My Browse Mode screen is a record about a single plant, and I search using various criteria to create a list; and then want to click the list so I can see more info about the plant. I hope this isn't so confusing. I tried a portal based on a self relationship but this won't work. Am I trying to do something impossible? I also tried having a new window appear, with the found set in a list view, but was unsuccessful withat that as well. Michael

    Hi, I am very new to this application and I am trying to have repeating regions for calculation part of the invoice. Thus, Hours, Labour Description, Unit Price and Amount. However, underneath I would like any unpaid invoices added. I have looked at other solutions, and they seem to use a Portal Setup, but I can not see where this information is coming from.     Hello, For some time I've been using a script to copy the content of a portal to a textfield. It's been working great and I tried to take it to the next level by adding more portals and an equivalent number of textfields. The portals seem to be working without any problem. It seems however that the script to copy the content is only working correctly for the original portal. For the added portal only the first line is copied. Weird thing is that the first line is multiplied by the number of rows in the other (original) portal. I want something very similar to what is present in a lot of the built in templates that come with Filemaker 8 (ie Lending Library).     I have an Invoice layout (invoice table) with portal rows(invoice data table) of invoice line items. Would like to be able to duplicate the invoice and have the line itmes in the portal be duplicated as well. This would create a new invoice with the serial number incremented by one and the portal data duplicated with the new serial number.   45. Hi all. Noob. 8.5, Mac. I've got a quick & dirty database that allows one to enter related child records via a portal. Not the recommended solution, but it's really just for (my) training. It appears that when you begin to enter data in a portal row, the next row's fields become 'active', highlighting field borders and activating popup menus (although they all remain blank). I'm sure that a new record isn't being created, but it's odd looking, and implies to a user that another record was created. The portal's deletion mechanism also implies that there's one there. The related table has say, 20 records relating to the first master record. When I want to print the one master record i wanto print the 20 related text bits with it.     I am trying to creat a portal where each row has many choices that can be made and not simply one drop down list of several choices. As an example lets select to purchase an ad: First would be a drop down list of the publication type (weekly mailing, seasonal, annual directory, etc.), then based on which one is chosen we now have a second value list that directly reflects the first choice.     I've done my best going through documentation and websites, but I can't figure out why portal records disappear after entry. The records in the underlying table do not disappear--they just don't show up in the portal. I have attached the file. The layout in question is "Employees - Form View." Try selecting a project from the drop-down menu in the portal. You can enter data in the other fields, but once you finish, it goes away. You can check that the underlying record still exists by going to the "Assignments" layout. Obviously, I want the records to show up in the portal after I have entered them there. But people can have several pictures and I would like to be able to choose witch one from the list would be on the first page. Ex: In a data base of models, there is the main record of the model with all the details and here picture. Then there is on an other layout all her pictures. Each product has a custom barcode printed for it. The barcode simply is the product's SKU number.     I've got a Client table with a portal to a Client Address table; it is linked by ClientID and AddressType; I limit the AddressType to three radio button options on the layout: Home, Work, or Other. The portal displays only one row on the layout. This way, when I click on the radio button AddressType, the portal displays the correct address, and if one of the addresses doesn't yet exist, it allows me to create the new address for the selected AddressType. Make the title into a button and use it to set the value of a global field (in the same table as the portal) and set the portal to be sorted by that field.     I want to have a script that takes me to a main record (a random one), then it should go to the portal in that record (the portal are related records, each record having a date), create a new child record in the portal and put todays date in it. There doesn't seem to be a script command that allows you to create a new child record in a portal. If you're in the portal at the last record created you can do the command, go to next portal record, but if you're in the main layout you'll only get to the first portal record, not a new one.   99. Hi, I'm trying to do a trick that was suggested by Helpful Harry back in 2004. The idea is to add a new record to a portal but not on the last blank line. Helpful Harry had found a way of using two portals based on the same related file, where one portal would show all records and the other portal would show only new records.
