FileMaker Pro 14

New user so please forgive me if I posted in the wrong forum. Just installed FM Pro v 14 on new computer with no prior versions installed. Registered the s/w, but when I try to launch it, it seems to start for about 2 seconds then stops. Am sure this is a vanilla user issue many of you have solved.

Hi, I would like to be able to make a field containing email address clickable be some means or other so that the address is then ported to my preferred email client. Is this possible? I do not want to send the email from FileMaker itself, just send the address to the email client. Thanks, Craig

Hi I am trying to access from a MariaDB database using a "create external table..." using ODBC connectivity against my FM database but every try it did was unsucessful... Error message is: /* Error de SQL (1105): SQLDriverConnect: [FileMaker][FileMaker] (802): Unable to open file */ I read a lot about rhis problems but I am hesitating if this is something posible or not. I am putting together a database of All departments in a hospital and our technicians responsible for them. I also need to have 2 backup techs. The database for the techs will be them same techs as the backups. Right now I created tables, fields & relationships for each individual techs and backup techs and that seems like not a very good idea since it is all the same. I need suggestions of how I can pull this of easily especially for doing tech and backup tech updates. I have attached relationship screen and the database file. I am putting together a database of our employees and the areas in the hospital they are responsible for. In this I am including these fields 1. Department 2. Technician 3. Backup Technician 4. Extension 5. Pager 6. Cell Phone Number There is going to be many departments per tech but only the same ext, pager & cell phone# each of them. Should this be just a flat file database or should it be setup with relationships of each techs departments to them? I am not sure how to relate each technician to multiple departments.

Running FmPro 14. This is about trying to mine data as it is entered into a database. I have to modify an existing database, but it has not been set up very well. There are only 2 Tables: Invoice, and Inventory. Only key field is ID, which is used to identify the specific piece of gear. Approx 200 ID "codes" (Primary Key in Invoice table, Foreign Key in Inventory table) Inventory rarely changes, and current stock is kept in an "on hand" field in that table. I decided to install the Mac Mojave OS (10.14)...BIG mistake! I found out too late that my FMP 14 files would no longer work. I reinstalled Mac OS 10.13.6, only to find that my FMP application files were no longer in my Applications folder. I dug out my FMP 11 Advanced, and my FMP 14 Advanced updater and reinstalled them. I can't get FM 14 Advanced to scroll on my Windows 10 machine. Not on a table or form in either layout or browse mode. It's as if the mouse wheel wasn't there. The scroll bars work when I grab them. The scroll function works on all other programs, including FM 8.5. Any clues? Thanks

Hi, so i'm trying to fill a dropdown list, with values that come from an ODBC conection to an SQL Database. I can create the conection in FM, but when i can see the created DSN on the edit value list from another file, but it's grayed and i can't select it. Greetings I'm running FMP14 on a Mac. I have several time fields, all of which are configured to UTC time in 24hr format and are working pretty much as expected. Several calculation fields are run off those fields. My issue is, during data-entry, not everyone is as consistent in their notation as perhaps would be ideal... we all know how FMP loves consistency! I have created an "opener" file called "OpenMP" that is located on the Windows Desktop. Also, a global variable for the directory where the FMP14 files are located called "$$marinaDir" = "MarinaPro v17". When activated the launcher opens but does not open the target file using the following file path, "filewin:/C:/$$marinaDir/Marina.fmp12." Hi, I work for a small company as the IT guy and have just taken on the role as the in house Filemaker developer. We have FMS14 running 14.0.3.302 with 9 hosted databases which from what i can tell have been around since the dawn of time. The company started with FM7 I think and the databases have been modified since then. I have a user who has just transitioned from working in the office to working from home full time. She has the same laptop that she's had for a couple of years, which she mostly uses for Outlook and FileMaker. (Primary work is done on a separate laptop.) I'm currently using filemaker pro 14 connected to filemaker 14 server. I don't want to upgrade to filemaker 15 because of it's new license policy. Is it possible to get filemaker pro 14's license? I checked filemaker's website and it seems I can buy filemaker 15 license only.

I would like to see if anyone could help me to verify if the problem I am having is a bug in Filemaker. I have recently upgraded my network from Filemaker 13 to 14. In 13 I did not experience this issue. It seems that in Filemaker 14, when a particular Hindi character is pasted into a Filemaker field it crashes the database. I have tested this on numerous machines within my network with the same result. I am hoping that someone will run this simple test for me and report back if it happened to them as well. I see v14 ( mac ) now has Momentum Scrolling ( slight bounce when scroll has reached the top or bottom of the page ) which is a nice touch in some cases but not so nice in others. Can we control this?

I have found an unusual situation using the Close Popover script step. I have slide panels on a layout, and want to use a popover button to switch between them. If I use a script that just uses a Go to Object step, the panels switch, but the popover remains on screen. Fine, I said, I'll just add a Close Popover step. When I do, the popover erases, but the window jumps back to the original slide panel. Have i, as I often do, overlooked something obvious? Can someone help with a workaround? I have developed an app on my Dell Win 10 desktop. When I run it on my Surface Book Win 10, I encounter all kinds of screen rendering problems. The screen interface does not display totally. If I click around on the interface screen with the mouse different parts of the screen will display. It is I can almost paint the screen with mouse, but never get the full screen display. Any ideas how to go about fixing this issue? The only white spaces in the image should only be the fields, these other whites spaces that are not fields will change location as I click with the mouse on different places.

Currently, I use Word Documents for making invoices, and spreadsheets to log. I'm looking to write something custom to my needs. Hello all, as the subject says unable to install trial version of Fm 14 on a win 7 based pc with 4 GB RAM and i3 processor. After some googling I understand this to be a bitness problem. My pc is 32 bit -- but the installer seems to be only for 64 bit. Maybe the trial version does not have separate installers - quite defeats the purpose of a trial version in my opinion. I am logged in as administrator - but even then the error keeps coming up. Error is something like " Unable to install or uninstall filemaker on this system.Please refer to system requirements in the installation instructions for more information". Please advise.

I've noticed since installing El Capitan that my various mac systems are doing a horrible job in rendering type. Specifically I'm seeing type getting clipped along the top. I've seen it on multiple solutions...multiple layouts...and on two different mac computers. This started happening recently and I think it dates to the installation of El Capitan....though it could date to FM 14.05. It's not impairing use but it sure looks tacky. Anyone else seeing this?

Looking for text field limit for FileMaker 14, and this is what I got: 2GB, or "< 10,000,000 characters per field per repetition (limited by available memory)". This is where I got confused. What does it mean "10,000,000 characters per field per repetition"? It definitely not is the length of the full text, I believe.

Hello, I have a user running Filemaker 14 on Windows 10 that when they are using our database in Table View and scrolling, clicking on different records records begin to overlap each other. Which will get worse as it progresses until scrolling completely out of the current screen and then scrolling back. I have attached a video that shows it better than what I can put into words. It was also working the same way on Filemaker 13 on Windows 7, I also changed computers, exchanged monitors and mice, none of which fixed the issue. I assume it has to be something the user is doing? I normally use FM 12 Adv. I downloaded and tried FM 14 trial version to give it a try. I then uninstalled it but the files with the fmp12 extension have lost their program association with filemaker. They no longer show the FM logo. Filemaker does not show up in the Windows control panel that sets the default program. However, double clicking any fmp12 file starts FM 12 Adv as it should. A typical file is shown below. How can I restore the file associations?

I am having a weird issue going on that is best explained with pictures... In the data viewer, and even see it under Manage Database, there is a weird font appearing. It replaces the hyphen and underline with a box looking character. Normally I wouldn't care too much, but when I use the field value and past into a calculation, It seems to take the box character and not hyphen. This means if I try to pass the Contact_id in some sort of html web viewer call, it won't work. When I use "open file" or "open remote" it takes a very long time to get to the dialog pane. Once there, all is good. Is this just me or do others have the same issue. BTW i am using MAC OSX 10.11 El Capitan but this is not an option to change in my profile.

Just installed the FM14 update to version 2 today and I have gone from maybe 1 or 2 crashes per day to FileMaker crashing every 10 minutes now. Anybody else encounter a drastic increase in the number of times FileMaker crashes daily?

I have a client running Windows Terminal Services. Users use Remote Desktop from their workstations to log onto the terminal server. Last night I upgraded the server to FMS 14, but left the clients on 12. There are no server-side scripts. The terminal service workstation and the FileMaker Server are each installed on their own virtual machine. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; 14GB I have a script in my solution that checks for plug-ins being registered. Hi From a script I am "saving as PDF" to a windows server ( from a remote Mac) and windows users are reporting a corrupt file - or at least a file which doesn't show all the text. Has anyone else had this issue? EDIT: this occurs if I save to the desktop first then copy to the server. thanks John

Has anyone come across issues upgrading from v11 to v14? The Filemaker website says I can use my existing FMP 11 Advanced install to qualify for the lower priced FMP 14 Advanced update until 25th September. However, it won't install and keeps on saying it can't find a qualifying product, even when I use the Installer Browse function to identify the version of FMP 11 Advanced currently in use. Hello, all. As most developers know, FileMaker stores a lot of its code pieces in XML snippets. I wanted to see and store these XML snippets so I have created a simple FileMaker app for doing so. Just installed FMPA 14 two days ago and running it through its paces. I may have found a bug but not 100%. I have a script that will email my clients their account info and password by Send Mail via Email client. This IS performed with dialog so I am expecting to see a window pop up with the email I am sending - however nothing happens. When I run the script on the 14 platform (tried in both Pro and Advance) no dialog appears and I get a -1 Unknown Error when the Send Mail script step is fired. This script works flawlessly in 13. I have been wondering if I should upgrade or not, it has been a while since my last upgrade (to 11), which I am still using, works and serves my purposes fine and seldom crashes. I downloaded 14 trial version, converted my files to try it out, no complains but also no wow's! It worked just as fast as 11 (even if locally, I did not install the server trial version, lack of time). Start up was slower that 11 (Computer Pentium G630 2.7 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit). Obviously though, I do not want to upgrade a whole production environment if FileMaker 14 is not as stable as 13. What have you experienced with 14? According to the Tech Docs at Filemaker, it is possible to deploy the FileMaker app via Apple Remote Desktop. Unfortunately FileMaker makes it extremely difficult to find the actual files on their website to do this, but their support was able to provide a direct DL link to a .zip file that contains a shell script that SHOULD in theory allow me to create a packed installer that I can deploy to my Clients via the Remote Installation command available in Apple Remote Desktop. When opening up FMP 14 after installation I receive an empty dialog box with the title FileMaker Pro Trial, no body, and 4 buttons (Buy Now, Close, Enter License Key, and Try FileMaker Pro (try is greyed out)). The installer tells me that installation was complete but I can not get pass this dialog box, even after numerous installation attempts. I have a license key and a Trial email but both ways result in the same thing. If I try entering my license key at this point I receive another smaller empty dialog box with the FMP14 icon on the left. I really only have one complaint when it comes to Filemaker, and seeing now that in version 14 it still has not been corrected is leading me to bring it up here. It's the coffee cup. The icon that appears when a database is under heavy load. The steam that is coming out of the cup is animated backwards. Rather than waves of steam starting at the cup and propagating upwards, the tips of the steam columns snake back and forth seeming to pull the lower part of the column along. This is not how steam works and appears unnatural. Go look for yourself. Perform a find on an unindexed calculation field or whatever you need to do to get the coffee cup. I work for a local government agency and my predecessor used FileMaker for many years prior to my arrival. I have hired a very capable developer to continue our use of the FileMaker platform. We are well down the road of usage and utilization, so far that coming up with an alternative might take a year. My concern, hence the reason for this topic, is that we are so deep into the FileMaker platform that FileMaker could choose seemingly any price and we would have to pay it. In my first renewal, after having purchased an annual site license the prior year, the increase in the same licensing is 20%! Does anyone else see this as an issue for the organization they represent?

Latest PMP 14.0.1 version on a Mac. I have this often with several DB'. When FMP is not running I open a DB by double clicking it (this also states FMP) and I see just the outline of the layout, no records nothing. This happens intermediately, not always. I have not been able to see a trend as to when it happens. However it seems to always be after a new start of the computer, but not always. In order to see the records I need to close the DB and reopen. For your information this happens since a long time, is not new to 14, I also had it in 13 and 12. Anybody any idea as to why this happens? Thanks.

I am running Filemaker 13 Advanced on two two computers and Filemaker 13 on a third. All of the computers are iMacs. All of the computers talk with each other via hosted database on a shared server. I would like to start exploring Filemaker 14 but cannot afford to have any one of these machines not in service. I have three questions: 1) Can the files I generate in FM 14 be accessed from the boxes that only have FM13 installed? 2) If I download the demo version will I still have access to the debugger tools? 3) If I decide FM14 is not yet ready for prime time can I convert back to FM13?

I see that there is a 32-bit Windows version, but the listed system requirements show a minimum of Win7 SP1. Wasn't Windows XP the last 32-bit Windows OS? I'm curious to know if FM14 would install on XP, as my company has several machines which can't be upgraded past XP due to limitations of some legacy software. (Ugh.)

With the slight chance that someone else is experiencing the same issue... I installed FMPRO Adv 14 on my stable Windows 8.1 system a few days ago. It unfortunately has a consistent and huge issue - 1. it crashes immediately if I launch through standard launch mechanisms. I.E. immediately upon initial window opening. 2. Workaround is to doubleclick the local DB file to open, and it works fine and is stable. 3. If I then try to open a local or remote DB, (e.g. File -> Open -> ....) it crashes immediately after releasing mouse button on menu selection. Hello I am a Junior Developer, and a friend wanted to get something for his small business. I designed the FileMaker document already all he needs to do is simply display the Solution on a monitor, and use a few fields and buttons every now and then (no editing).
