I hope I can describe this issue accurately! Every year we use IWP to gather data within our organization. When the user logs on he/she sees their user information and a portal that contains the current years issues (unless none of been added). I have added a feature so that the users can looks at issues they have submitted in prior years with the same idea--their user info and a portal that looks at our archive. My relationships appear to look correct. On my desktop in FM PRO ADV 8.5 it looks great and as advertised. However, when I use IWP the to look at the layout with archive portal the portal is blank. I am unable to post a copy here. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to create a directory of families. I have each member of the family listed with their own data, but would like to compile them all on one layout. For example, I have three members of a family: Bill Whatts, Sue Whatts & Jimmy Whatts. Each family member has their own contact record, tracking data for each. But I want to print out a one page directory for the family with Bill, Sue & Jimmy Whatts. How do I do that?

I'm trying to get a portal to show data from a related table, but no luck. DB is attached (bowling info). The layout is "Team Info 2". I have a layout that has text for a form letter. There is some conditional text that changes the length of the letter from one record to another. I want to place a JPG of a signature close to the bottom of the letter. I can't figure out how to do that in a way that the graphic repositions itself depending on the length of the letter. By contrast, this is very easy to do in Word. Any suggestions?

I would like to dynamically change a portion of a layout/report title based on user input. I have created a script to produce a report and would like the user to be able to indicate the scope of the data in the report; for instance, "First Qtr 2007", or "May 2007", or "Last Half 2006". The only thing I can find that comes close is the script command Show Custom Dialog. However, this command places the user input into a field in a table. This data is not related to a specific record in a table, but to the report itself - hence, the inclusion in the title. So, is there a way to have the user dynamically enter a portion of the title of a report? Thanks.

Might as well put it up front, I'm a rank amateur. Sorry if this question has already been asked. I've created a portal that displays related records from a table. Although I have changed the relationship to allow 'creation of related records' it still isn't letting me create them. A row is generated, but I can't enter data in it. I want to be able to enter the first field in the portal record, put in a piece of data (one letter), and have it insert data from the related table across the portal record. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't want to mess around with creating buttons and global keys etc. I'd rather fix it in the relations…

Good Morning all, I have an issue with an Accounts Receivable report that I would like help with.. We have it setup where it is a sub-summary (leading/trailing) by customer #. Depending on the amount of items a customer purchases, some customers have one page of items, some two pages, and some have three pages when printing reports. Has anyone built or know a way of just printing the last page of each customer statement when you have a found set of data pulled up? I'm fairly new to FM so I may well be doing something stupid here In our FM8 database I'm finding that "Go to Layout" is greyed out on the View menu. I have full Admin access, and I am able to go into Layout Mode, just not to access the entire list of layouts. On earlier builds of the database I can access it fine. Hi all I have a steel material db that has 1000 or so records. The program is used at different locations by one user at a time. I was wonder if anyone knows of a way of having the users pick the material they would use from the database and only that material will to be shown in a value list. I have seem this done in other programs where you would pick the data you want to display in a value by placing a check marked in a field and that data is present in a value list. When you deselect that item, the item is not longer shown in the value list. Can this be done in FM. I know how to format a conditional value list but I not sure if this is a conditional value list. …

This is a quest/challenge. If this already exists, could someone point me to it? If it doesn't maybe someone could give it a try. My thought was being able to print out one label at a time on a multi-label sheet such as Avery. This would mean letting the user choose row and column much like Word allows you to do. This would allow the user to re-feed a sheet of labels until all the labels are used. What do you guys think?

My apologies if this has already been answered - I did a brief search and couldn't find anything on this. I have an address label layout which contains several address fields (i.e. House / Town / State) which are populated with the corresponding data in my Contacts table via a script (using the 'set variable' and 'set field'). I have done this so that I can target where each label will print on the 8 - label per sheet layout (by defining each field with 8 different repetitions). I am TOTALLY baffled here! I have a forms db with a portal in a layout showing list of drivers. This portal WORKED FINE initially when I set it up several months ago. All of the sudden, it only shows the first record (portal=show 10 rows). So, I created new layout, copied and pasted the portal to the new layout, and it WORKS FINE. edited to fix some errors in my description i'm using filemaker 8.0 on PC and 8.5 on mac os x. i imported a tab delimited file with 1300 rows and 12500 tabs. each field contains a 10 digit decimal number. i want to use the db to find subsets of the 1300 records from queries and then export the found set of records. "define db" shows 12500 fields as expected but the default layout only shows the first ~460 fields. if i build a layout from scratch, the 'move fields' dialog shows all 12500 fields and moves them but the layout still only shows ~460 fields, and only those ~460 fields will export. how do i get all the fields to display on a layout? also, if i export…

How can I mark a checkbox(es) in multiple records at one time in FileMaker? Do I need to create a script? Details: I have a field using a Checkbox Set with Custom Values. Each Custom Value represents a specific mailing campaign. My goal is to be able to do a Find that returns all of the records that will be involved in a mailing campaign. hi all. i need the expertise of the filemaker pros here. [color:blue]here's what i have: -i have a text field that constantly gets changed. -the data in that text field can be edited as far as deleting the whole data in that text field. Every so often I manage to define a text field and place it on a layout in such a way that the text inside it doesn't wrap properly; i.e. at word boundaries. Instead it breaks at letter boundaries. I was wondering if you always need layouts. Like say for example you create a table for something that will never be worked into a front end design. It always creates a basic layout to go with it. If the records in this specific table only ever show up in a portal, do I need to keep the layout that was automatically created? Do I need for some reason that original layout to add records to the table through scripts?

I have a layout in my db with multiple portals. I use the printing and sliding options to remove and slide up unwanted portals from the printed report. When previewing the layout all looks well, however when printing it the text areas, i.e. filed labels, from the non printed portals still show in the print out. Has anyone ese had this problem. I have the same issue in 8.5 and now i have tried 9 and get the same.

Clearly since FM introduced custom menus, there is a bit of a clash between the options in Privilege sets, (to allow users to have "All", "Editing only" or "Minimum" available menu commands), and then providing proper custom menus for your solution. Custom menus won't function fully unless users have "All" set in the available menu commands of their associated privilege set (i.e. custom menus are heavily disabled, and any new non-Filemaker related menus/menu items are completely unavailable.) Hi guys, excuse me if this is very easy to answer but I am new to the Filemaker program. I have set up a number of tables and within the database have set up also some Value Lists, for example we need to add the date when a client was sent an information pack so I have added the following fields - client day / client month and client year. I have set the attributes accordingly as Number / Text and Date. For each point of interest, 2 pieces of information are displayed: a container field with varying colors and another with a number field. The values for those fields depend upon a common date and data related to the particular point of interest. I have a data entry layout in a Student table which requires the user to select a language in each of 19 different language fields (pop-up menus). 8 fields come from the Student table, 8 fields come from the Parent table, and 3 fields come from the School table. Hi Everyone, I've recently acquired Filemaker Pro 9 Advanced and I'm setting up my first database on this version. Right away I've hit this very frustrating snag with the New Record and Duplicate Record commands. I have a subscription database with Active, Expired, Renewed and Canceled subscriptions. I would like to know, within any found set (whether it's a subset of found records or the whole DB), how many active subs there are, how many canceled subs, how many expired subs and how many renewed subs I'm looking at. I'm adding some custom menus to a large system in FMP v8.5 (Windows) Is there any quick way of associating a default custom menu set to a privilege set, or account, in v8.5 (if you can in v9 I would migrate the system). I'm either missing something or everyone else approaches it differently... At the moment I'm setting a restricted set of custom menus on various files, and overriding it to the standard set, when I'm logged and need full access, by using an Install Menu Set step in an "open" script which checks the account name (none of the client PCs have Advanced installed).

I have built a database that keeps track of students, courses, teachers, and enrollment. Both the courses database and the teacher database contain a field for which university they belong to. (We track about 15 different universities.) Within the Courses layout, I have a popup selection button for the teacher of the course that opens a layout with a portal listing all the teachers in the database. I would like to have the portal containing the teachers just show the teachers that teach at the university selected in the Course layout. Is it possible to constrain the portal field to just show the university specific teachers? Any idea?

I'm having an issue with displaying data in in a trailing grand summary part. I'm attempting to run a report to display a contractors gross and net pay out. The first table is commissions, it stores all the money paid to the company. Through a relationship and lookup fields, it grabs the installers name and how much the installer was paid for each job. The second table is an items table which stores lines items for parts and supplies the installer has ordered. Keep in mind, there are several installers in this table. Hello, I would like to add some portals to my database that is served IWP using FMSA 8.0 and have some questions: 1) Are portals compatible with IWP? 2) How do I make the row count dynamic? I am having problems printing layouts/documents with portal information in Filemaker 9. Portals with Sliding Printing set to move up used to behave perfectly running Filemaker 8.5 on several client applications. Using FM9 the print or pdf is a mess on the same documents. Portal rows are missing or only half print. Is this a known issue with FM9? Is it being addressed by FMI? Has anyone else seen the same problem or come up with a solution?

I want the same options for each list without duplicating what is in the field above it. Let me try to illustrate: Since countries seems to be popular, I'll use countries. Hello all, I am looking to expand certain text fields, more than simply sliding up the empty spaces. Is there a function that will slide down other fields in a layout if a field goes beyond the allocated space. What I'm hoping to do is allow someone to submit a Fault Report with as much detail as they would like to add, and do not want to limit the amount of text they input in a field due to obvious details needed in a fault report. Hello. I have several portals on a tab layout in my current project. I was hoping there was a way for the "new" row to appear at the top. First post. I have been using Filemaker for about 3½ years, but not at the level of expertise typified on this forum. I have been reading in several threads, attempting to find a solution, but have been unable to do so thus far. Hi all I use a faux tab interface in FM 6 with a script that uses the set field command to create a record into another file. I would like to switch to FM 8.5 tab interface to preform the same function. I need to be able to force the user to press a certian tab and run a script before the user can go to the first tab where the menu is position. Is there a way of doing this. You know when you are exporting something from Filemaker, you have a list of fields on the left and an empty list on the right. You can then select fields to export by adding them to the right. I have set up a database for project managment. I would like to have it so that i can have a layout with expandable components representing the jobs/tasks and sub tasks. I initially tried portals withing portals, it semi worked but my research says its not possible this way. Example layout Job + Task + Sub-Task + Sub-Task + Task ... Job ... Hi, I have a table "Projects" and another table "Issues". The idea is to have many issues entered for each project, so there is a one-to-many relationship. I made a issue layout, with a drop down list box to select which project the issue would be for. But, the list only displays 3 projects, even though I have defined about 7. So many forums, I hope this is right place to post. My question is how do you handle the difference in behavior between drop-downs in IWP verses the FMP client? For example, say you have a value list whose values are, say, companyID & you're also showing the values of a 2nd field companyName. In the FMP client, you'll get a drop-down that shows this info, but after a selection is made only the vendorID appears. Contrast this to IWP. The drop-down is the same, but after a selection is made, the companyName, not ID, is displayed. (And, yes, I understand the reason for this behavior.) I have a solution which registers teachers for professional development training. There is a table for the level of training (Algebra I, Geometry II, etc) which is viewed in a portal. So far, so good. The problem: I'm trying to create a subsummary report which tells me how many people are registered for each level. However, the report only summarizes what appears in the first row of the portal. Thus a person who is registered for both Algebra and Geometry only gets counted in the numbers for Algebra, if that is what is listed first. However, he still shows up in a found set for either one. So I have records with the same catalog number but with many vouchers. Is it possible? In the main table there is a portal to create various sub-categories. The key field is the ID number of the main table. I need to be able to create n-quantity of extra expenses that will be attached to subcategories. For this I made an expenses table and related it to the sub-category table through the same main table ID - and through a sub-category ID. (There is a straight connection from the main table through the sub-category table to the expenses table, based on the same ID.) I'm using Instant Web Publishing with Filemaker 8 Pro (not advanced); my start up script hides the status area but along the left side of the window (where the status area used to be) there is a strip of white. This happens when the database is opened with explorer and firefox, etc. There is just this strip of white, i.e., no background colors. In filemaker pro itself, in browse mode, when I hide the status area, the background fills in completely where the status area used to be so I can't seem to even access the problem... I use FM 8.5 to generate proofs for clients. We are printing two size books; one at 100% and one that will be 85%, shot to film at the printer. My problem is this; I have one container field that imports 9 different ad sizes (created to size in Illustrator CS2). My boss would like to reduce the ad size to appear 15% smaller, so that the client will see the proof at actual size in the smaller directory. Is there a way to make the content of a container appear 15% smaller, no matter the dimensions of the actual file?

Hello, I have a value list with 20 soccer teams....for each team I have a graphic in a container field representing their jerseys...my question, is if I can have FM automatically pull up the graphic of the jersey when I select the team from a pop-up menu. I am trying to make a weekly schedule of the games that would graphically show the team jersey along with the team name when selected. Anyone have any suggestions on how to accomplish this?? Hi, I have been using a couple of FileMaker databases for many years but I've just started to learn developing my own. They were always flat-file db's before. I have several relational db's that I'll be working on, eventually. But right now I have a fairly simple, one-table, db I am trying to get set up. Make it a one-to-one relationship using a global field as the Primary key and the existing ID of the related record as the foreign key. I have occasionally gotten the iPhone to work using WiFi, but never using AT&T. Is there something about Filemaker that prevents access via a slow connection? Or is it something else.

Hi, I have a portal with a button on each row (each row is a button with text in front of it - so clicking anywhere on the portal row triggers the button). When the user clicks the button, detailed information about that record gets loaded onto the screen into some global fields, which can then be edited and resaved etc. This sets the scroll-bar on the portal back to the top, which I dont want. I unchecked the "Reset Scroll Bar When Exiting Record" box but no change. Is there anyway to make the portal stay where it is? Or failing that can I script a "goto" action that will go to a certail record on a screen refresh? Thanks in advance, Nick

I have a .fp5 database that sorts on a date field. When records are sorted, any record with a null value in the date field is located at the end of the sort order. When I converted to .fp7 (using FM 8.5) the sort order is correct, but the records containing the fields with a null value are located at the start of the record set. How can I fix this? I am creating a letter in FMP using text, graphics and merge fields. However the line spacing is not consistent. In layout mode a single line may result in 2 lines in preview once the data is populated in the merge field. If the text expands to more than one line the spacing is larger between the last line then the previous. Also, one of the merge fields is italized. How do I get the line spacing to be consistent? PS: The inconsistent line space is not consistent. It appears to occur when the first word in the line is italized.

Forgive me if this seems stupid, I have managed to avoid the joys of MS Windows thus far in my life but a recent system change means I am now rubbing shoulders with the vulgar populous! I have a little small windowed Filemaker DB, a kind of specialist calculator (really it is a one record 'app') that I provide to my Mac users. I have a number of different FM databases with portals. On some if you tab to the end of the line of a portal it will tab to the next line allowing you to create a new record in the portal. On others it ALWAYS tabs out of the portal at the end of the line. I want to always tab to the next line of the portal. How do I control this? Thanks.

I'm on the Demo, trying to decide if FM 9 can meet my needs. My data in several fields varies widely in character length - I don't want to see only 1 line of my lengthier entries in Preview/Browse/Print, and I don't want to print huge amounts of empty space if I set the layout for the longest entry. I can't use Excel, in which the record height is individually adjustable, because of the 255 character/cell limit. Pre-Sales couldn't help me after 1 1/2 hours, and suggested that maybe someone here could come up with a solution. I am 75% done with the database for my martial arts school but I ran into two snags. 1- I would like to have a customizable i.d number that when I create a new account automatically offers the last number plus one. Hi guys, I'm trying to build a report viewed in preview mode that has a table of quote items on it with a few subsummaries and whatnot. It's working fine so far, but I want to put vertical lines to separate columns. In the body part I'm using a large text field that spans about 10 lines for the main description field and have the sliding options set so that this slides up when there is less text than the 10 lines (almost always). I've tried drawing vertical lines in the body part but the problem I'm having is that they do not shrink along with the text field, which is kind of expected, but that's really what I'm trying to achieve. The default font is Helvetica Condensed but when I key in “option-hyphen” to get an en-dash, the text changes to Lucida Grande. It only seems to happen if I’m typing fast as well! Weird and annoying. Any ideas?

I just want to add a simple button the user can click and it will take them to paypal to make a donation. Paypal has a button creator, but it generates html to paste into a site. I am currently working on a database that will store the various department’s annual reports (or end of year reports). Some of the text fields will be quite big and some will be a paragraph at most. But the size will vary by department and there's really no way of predicting what it will be. I am having issues printing. I would like to print the reports and have the fields auto-size on the paper. I have checked “Set Sliding/Printing”, but it’s really not doing what I think it should. Any help will be appreciated. I have a portal list of over 4,000 records and I would like to put in the ability to jump to the beginning of a letter with a script. Is there a semi-easy way to do this. I can think of a way by sorting the records counting how many before a letter and how many after a letter and then subtracting and then going to the portal row number from a calc. But this would mean a lot of scripts and possibly a slow script. jon
