  2. I am having trouble with a client crashing that is possibly unresolvable, but I want to give it a shot. I had to upgrade the user's machine to Mac OS X 10.5.x in order to support an unrelated application. FileMaker 6, accessing complex databases hosted by FileMaker Server 5.5 crashes at random times and especially when printing large monthly reports/invoices. (The print job can be hundreds of pages.) When it crashes, it simply disappears from the screen, like "Poof!" Other users are not affected, and the database is not damaged. I KNOW we have to upgrade, but that is several months in the future. It is a complex custom database that is tied in with Quark xPress …

  4. Can anyone help? We badly need a copy of Server 8 (or 8 Advanced) __for Intel__ to replace our copy running on an old PowerPC G5 which is on the point of failure and needs a hardware upgrade. It seems that Filemaker ceased support for this a few months ago, and I'm unable to find a copy anywhere. And no, we've tried but can't update to a more recent FM version, due to masses of legacy scripts we've written for this over many years. If anyone has a box on their shelf, or knows where I could download it from etc., you'd be a friend for life. We're willing to pay a fair market price.

  5. I am hoping someone can help us. Not sure if this is the right thread. My supervisor just bought a brand new custom built computer and wants to be able to use that computer has his main office machine. In our office we run Filemaker Pro 5. It is run off of our server (server 2003) and all of the computers here (roughly 20) can access filemaker with no problems. His computers specs far exceed that of any other computer in the office except for maybe one. For some reason when we try to access filemaker from this machine it runs extremely slow (not usable) even though it’s hooked up and connecting the same way. We have been working on it on and off for about 3 weeks now a…

I keep getting script error 100 (Which is file missing) Is it the import step, thats not compatible with the server script. Hi All, I just finished a migration of different databases from fp5 to fp7 on a FM Server 11.xx. Everything is rolling just fine. I just want to know if there is a way to hide all the database files in the remote window, except the" Main Menu.fp7" that is the starting point of all users. By doing that, I would like to avoid confusion for the beta users. Thanks for replying Nick

  9. I don't know if this is the right place for this topic, but here goes. I have a database hosted and multiple people using them at once. I want to know if there is a way for a user to perform an action that will then make my local database perform a script. For instance, if a user selects a certain drop down box category, it will set in motion a script that will notify my immediately. Currently I do this through a combination of apple script / mail. I just wanted to be able to do it all inside filemaker. I was thinking about doing it based on ip so the "warning" would only run if the computer's IP would be "X" so everyone would not see the warning i want to se…

  11. Hello, FMForums community. I am completely new to FileMaker, and learning FileMaker just became the cornerstone of my career, so you guys probably aren't getting rid of me anytime soon. Let me explain. I'm a college student (computer science major) that managed to land a job as a systems administrator at a small business. The owner is a close family friend. Since I had proven my usefulness to him on several occasions by keeping the shop's computers up and going whenever there was a problem, when he heard that I have problems at my job, he decided to (finally) take me on-board and let me work for him. Our company buys and sells plastic injection molding machinery…

Dear FileMaker Experts, Have you guys all seen this article? http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7701/~/deprecation-of-xslt-api-for-custom-web-publishing When they say this, does that mean that with the next version of server our current FileMaker Server xslt will be gone or removed? If so that is very troubling and reminds me of how they removed the .dbf import and export in a recent version that caused such an uproar. Is it possible to get them not to remove that api as we have been using it for years and have lots of uses for it? Thanks in advance, Shawn

Anyone else have issues with FMS11 being slower than FMS10? Our current situation is we have a DB with many "Programs", each program can contain many "Styles". It is possible to have 336 styles in a program, but that will never happen, we do have some with 48 styles. Each of these styles can have one or more pictures associated to them which are not stored in the DB but on another server. Only references are stored in the DB. This has not changed since going to FMS11. We are now getting some users complaining that its too slow to work anymore. Is there any fine tuning that needs or can be done to FMS11 or are we hooped? We can easily access IWP internally at 192.168.1.49/fmi/iwp but we are trying to figure out how to make this available over the internet. We did it with FM Pro but in that case the internal address was simply 192.168.1.2:591 (address:591 externally). But, with FMSA if we simply type in 192.169.1.49:591 (or :80) we are taken to the IIS screen. How can we make it so that a port number takes the user directly to the IWP home screen? The script's sole step is to export one field from all the file's records into a .csv file and save it to the server. That step is failing and we think it is related to how I'm writing the filepath. Given the directions in FMP and my programmer's understanding of server work we expected to be able to use the Transfer folder as a repository, so we called the filepath "file:/Transfer/. 62. A client of ours recieves messages with too great a frequency that 'Filemaker has lost communication with host. All affected windows will be closed.' They are running Filemaker Server and all clients are on a hardwired LAN. We, somewhat stubbornly, believe that the issue has to do with some setting on the client computers or more likely some issue with their LAN. They belive that the issue is Filemaker based. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any ideas about this problem. All machines are MAC and they are running Filemaker 10 and Server 10. The server is configured to NOT disconnect idle clients. Looking forward to any suggestions anyone …

I'm trying to connect with SQuirrel client and with a simpla java class (as exemplified by the odbc/jdbc guide that came with fmsa 11). In both cases the connection just hangs. There are no errors returned, no time outs happen, nothing. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you were able to connect to a file via JDBC using serve 11 and the new drivers from FileMaker.. 65. I'm trying to get FMServer 11 to execute SYSTEM SCRIPTS on Mac OS X 10.6.3. In the first instance I can get simple commands to execute, such as 'ls' without problem, but what I really want to do is fire up a separate database and use an installed FileMaker Pro 11 to "save records as PDF" - this is an option not available within FMServer. My simple scripts is: #!/bin/bash open '/users/stagebase/documents/file.fp7' which execute correctly when initiated from a terminal session started from the Finder. I have applied the changes to the /etc/sudoers file as recommended by the FMS Admin Console help, so that the script can execute under a local syste…

  66. We are currently running FMServer 9 on an old G5/OS X 10.4 server. It hosts student records for various projects, has a maximum of 2 users and it's been fine. But I need to update. Would FMSA11 run on a lightly used xServer? The server in question only runs a few web sites; some Joomla and Moodle. I know that best practice is for a dedicated server but I am running out of options here. Is anyone else in this position and has found sharing a server acceptable? Thanks for you time - much appreciated.

  68. Are there any bad implications for hosting on FMP Server 9 a solution built in version 11? The users would have FMP 11 client software on their desktop computers to access the file. For instance, I'm pretty sure things like the Mutlti-field quick-find feature would work okay in this circumstance, yes? Any other "issues" I need to consider when designing this soultion?

  69. Hi There, I set up a FM server 10 recently and has been working for the last couple of months. After rebooting the server this morning, all database files are running okay but the server admin is not starting. I don't recall I needed to do anything to start server admin in the first place. But when I start it this time, it keeps "connecting...." but never complete. I looked at each tab from admin start and tried changing some configurations, that didn't make it work. I don't seem to find a log somewhere to tell what could be wrong. What could be the problem? What can I do to get it running again? I really appreciate any help from this community. -Sal

  70. HI, I was wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the best setup for using FM server with an overseas office. Currently when I have users connect in the USA to the databases the speed is very acceptable. However as soon I go over the the pond, may it be Atlantic or Pacific it comes to a screeching halt. It is no longer usable. Can any of you tell me what would resolve this. -Go to a company that hosts FM databases, assuming that those connections are faster? -Better servers internally? We will be on a mixed platform, with overseas on Windows and USA on MAC. I appreciate the help, thanks.

  71. I'm sure I'm missing something here but when I launch the Site Assistant it loads up fine and when I check to create a new site it displays the server address, but when I go to connect it says the server isn't found. 74. Hi, I need to access a FM server using ODBC. I installed DataDirect SequeLink 5.4 and I can successfully connect to FM from various ODBC clients. The problem arises when I try querying the data: I get errors such as "[DataDirect][ODBC SequeLink driver][ODBC Socket][DataDirect][ODBC FileMaker driver]Invalid character value. Error in column 40.". If I remove column 40, I then get similar errors on other columns or things like "Requested conversion is not supported." I am not sure what to do now. The ODBC driver that comes with version 11 doesn't seem to be able to connect to 9. Can anybody help me? Best regards, Alessandro Federici

I don't have any experience with CWP, and wonder if there is any othe way here... If I can install FM Pro copies in all of my users' PCs, can I somehow share my database in a way that all clients can access and use it? Please advice. Thank you very much! :

I am running Server 11 advanced and I am trying to set up a page with IWP and when I start the set up, it looks fine. Asks for the site name and then the IP to connect. I am working right on the machine and it shows the local IP in the box. But it won't connect to get the list of hosted databases. I have put in 127.0.0.1, I have put in the domain name I have even put in a forwarding port. And nothing. It says it can't connect. I checked the IWP setting in the server and it is on. I also checked that the database I want has PHP and IWP setting on and it shows that they are on in the list of databases. I am at a loss on what to do.

  80. Hi We have a solution which contains various global fields used to store preference data. However as the solution is hosted with FM Server a client who access the solution is unable to edit these fields. Only the host is able to do this. This is a real pain as in order to make a change to a global field in the preferences area of the sloution you have to close down FM server, re-launch the solution with FM pro, make the changes, quit FM pro and then restart FM server. Does any one know of a trick or work around that will allow a client to force a change to a global filed?

  99. FileMaker Server v7 - v11 · Started by mf,

Hello, I am just upgrading our server from version 8 to 11. I did not know until now that backups were now each in their own folder. I understand the upside of allowing multiple backups and preventing them being overwritten. Having a fixed location was a plus in this situation: we need a duplicate of the database at a remote location - the data is replaced every night and using "day-old" data is not an issue and performance is better than using the network. So the script used by the remote machine was "pulling" a backup of the database from the same location every night. Now, with a new name every night, it no longer works... We can't do a file copy of the …
