I am looking for consultants/solutions to integrate our company's resource planning into a Filemaker database. I have a small-medium sized manufacturing comany which supplies the automotive industry. We currently utilize a comprehensive excel spreadsheet that tracks inventory, generates supplier releases, tracks our shipping/build schedule, etc. Its works, but is very complex and prone to errors. I'd like to convert this to a database solution that can be integrated with our invoicing, purchase orders, etc. This is more/less a scaled down ERP/MRP solution. We are looking for a Filemaker solution that will let us send and receive email. Sort the email. Archive eMail (but unlike Entourage it probably won;t be a problem for FileMaker). Store or file attachments on HD folder structure... We then want to be able to also have simple functions like Entourage: Sort, Contacts, Groups, Projects .. etc Anyone know of an existing FileMaker solution that can do this? Maybe List/Group email too? We just want an application that doesn't become as unstable as Entourage as it grows!

Hi all, I'm a fileMaker pro developer, and I've reached a snag in my project. I need to create a script in FileMaker to import data from a nice clean formatted TXT file. This is just text, but it's not comma or tab separated, and there are field names mixed in with the data. The script would need to remove all spaces, and isolate/ignore field names, yet pull the field data into the proper FileMaker Pro fields. It's over my head. I have attached a ZIP file with a sample of the type of text I need to import into FileMaker. This simple text file contains two records and you can get an idea which text is the field name and which is the data by looking at the formatt…

Hi Just upgraded to FMP 9 - and took it as time to make some structural changes in a file I use frequently. This tracks clips of films that originally came from DV tapes of Himalayan dances - there are about 300 tapes and 800 plus records. Originally I used a date/camera/clip number to make a Unique Tape ID for each dance I wanted to pull up as an individual record - so Tape ID could be 050621C1_3 which (reading backwards) gives me the 3rd dance on the first tape of the C camera on 21/6/05. This has worked fine to date. However, I'm starting now to combine several records from clips that spanned two or more tapes into a single record (possible in digital but not with ta…

Solution: recipe management solution?? Description: First, am I in the right forum? I am trying to figure out how difficult it would be to take the sample recipe database on the filemaker site and add a couple of functions. #1, create an ingredient database with associated costs of ingredients and their common supplier. Seems easy enough. then I could have a pulldown menu when I enter in the recipe. then when the cost of ingredients changes, I can modify the database and it will automatically be reflected in the recipe. #2 add the funcitonality of sub-recipes, meaning I could create sub recipes like tart crust and lemon filling and then make a composite rec…

I am working on a database that schedules a complete 1-year life cycle of our marketing campaigns. Each week has a particular step captured with it. There are multiple weeks where the date must fall on a predetermined meeting date, so I have set up master calendars for all of these meetings. My master 52-week schedule has a series of 52 date fields, one for each week of the year. For the weeks that are pre-defined, I have inserted calculations into the field that goes to the related meeting table and picks the next available meeting date, and then backflows the remaining steps from there. All of this is working great - I have a milestone view that pulls a report of the hi…

I'm trying to setup a DB for a convenience store. I have most of it completed but i've hit a snag I can't overcome and I'm sick of trying to make it work. Is there someone out there that would be willing to complete what I've already done and make it work the way I want for a reasonable fee. I know my problem is not a complicated one & the DB is not large enough to pay professional developers in Ontario Canada. My problem is quite simple I think, I need the products to have more than one product ID# because I purchase the same product from different suppliers, if there is any interest out there I will elaborate more. Hello, I am using the timecard template for FM6. I modified it to work on a monthly basis (changed the field week begin to month begin) and then hit a flaw in my design. I need to keep track of hours worked over a range of months, not just one month or one week as the template has. Do I need to set up separate files for each month, and then set up a relationship with these files and the main file? Or is there an easier way around this. I get the sense that this would be a lot easier in the newest version of FM but I am stuck with FM 6 for now. Thanks MT

This MAY be too big of a question, but I'm looking for some direction or possibly some sample code... I've just taken over the manager position of our local community chorus, where the previous manager was doing paper-based registration then hand-entering it into a flat-file Access 97 db (shudder.....). I'm a "self-taught" FileMaker guy (okay, now, all the DBAs out there, your turn to shudder) and have a good handle on the basics and the relational bits. However, I have very little experience with user accounts and pr…

Need some help in designing the file structure and/or relationships - I can make stuff like Excel and FM work, I just don't do it elegantly or even intelligently... My application for vocational and small colleges is going well, thanks to the many articles for advice on this forum. Now, I need to add an attendance application. I need some advice and help as to which way to go. The school attendance is set up whereby the student beforehand already knows the days and hours they should attend. It is now a matter of entering the absence and subtracting from the set hours for that day, week, month etc. What has me is setting up, displaying the students to a calendar of months, weeks etc., for user data entry, keeping a history by year and month. Any suggestions, ideas, links to other solutions are very welcomed.

I work for an IT department that manages a large number of databases, automated reports, desktop computers, etc. They have given me the task of finding an application which will inventory all of these components. For example, we will store database information such as filename, physical location, username, password, etc. As I see it, one of the key challenges of this project is to come up with an easy way to maintain the records, and I’m thinking a Web interface would be best. Additionally, some items need to be grouped together into a system. For example, a Web application may consist of several databases as well as a server. And of course we’re going to need to cr…

hi - i'm having trouble with some really easy tasks in filemaker pro. basically just copying an already existing layout, adding new fields, and all. even though i've read the manual and got some books i can't figure it out. it is simply not my world... is there anyone out there able to help me? means to meet up with me so i can explain my problem and then work on the layout together. it is a very easy one, so it'll probably only take a couple hours. how much would it be? thanks!!! p.s. i have a laptop so we could meet anywhere, in a cafe, whatever's best for you.

Does anyone have a legal license no longer in use (and not upgraded obviously) to sell? I need to split a server being shared by two departments. They won't be on the same network (not sure if that would work anyway), but they'd rather have it on the up and up. FM8 migration is not slated to happen anytime soon, so FMI can't help.

Wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of keeping a list of addresses that my contacts have lived at. I've looked at some of the starter solutions, but they only allow for second addresses, or a business and a home address etc... I import from excel as information is given to me, and would like to import it, have FMP find the contact, if their address in the excel spreadsheet is not the same as their existing address in our database then have FMP add the new address as a new record in a addresses table, which is linked via their ContactID... Many thanks in advance... :

Dear new friends, I am researching Filemaker as a possible RAD tool to develop standalone applications for retail (I believe only version 8.5 Advanced has the capability to create applications with Run Time FM capability included). [if I were to go by the posts in this forum I would believe that FM is unstable and very prone to crashing. But I know that forums are where people come with their problems while people whose application are golden rarely come to tell others about it. However if you have any comments one way or another, please share.] One question I have is: When I create standalone FM applications, can I disguise the fact that the application …

So I was given the duty to create a database for our lab with no experience with Filemaker Pro 6 except for the tutorial online and need some help with using the program. I have already created a very simple database with a couple different layouts, however for this new database, I am going to need a lot of help because of the complexity of the functions that I'm going to enter. If there is anyone out there that is in the Boston area and is willing to help out a noob, I'd be more than happy to buy you starbucks and a treat for some pointers on how to use the program a little bit better. Please email me if you are in the area and can help. -David Lee email: dhl…

Seriouslly, I have been fighting this for some time and I know it can be done but I keep stumbling. I have imported a spreadsheet of about 250 records into Filemaker 8.5 Advanced. I prettied up the layout and have everything sorting they way I like. However, what I want to do is this: I have total 250 records. I have about fifty fields. I want to find out how many Hispanic students meet "X" criteria (based on one of the corresponding fields). I get that results quickly and easily. However, when it tells me that its found 30 records -- what I would like it to tell me is the percentage of finds based on my search criteria (meaning what percentage…

I have developed a Membership Roster for my Chef Group with FM PRO-8 Advanced with view to distribution to our 2000 members. It would seem however, that a lot of people use MAC and although the data is cross platform compatible, it is not so for the run-time versions. For the PC I presently am able compile the runtime version to create an INSTALLWIZARD version for auto installation from a CD. Not that my knowledge of this process is correct because this is new to me however, I am looking to hire the services of a person who can guide me on the project and provide the following: 1. Compile the PC version of my FP7 files to a runtime MAC version. 2. G…

I run an equipment room at a film shcool and we are tyring to make the change from paper to computer for our equipment tracking database. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of available templates for FM6 that would be ideal for our needs. Basically, students come in and check out equipment, fo off and shoot their projects, and then return a couple of days later Its similar to a video store tape check out. So we need something that will allow us to track the whereabouts of a given piece of equipment and determine if it is available or out with somebody. We also need to integrate a bar code reader with it , so we can scan each inventoried item. Anybody have a…

Hi. I've been looking for one of these for a while now with no luck. Need ability to scan folders/subfolders and make list of graphics files there. Automatically generate a "thumbnail" of each pic that is just a reference to the pic not the actual pic itself. That would have a few fields where one could assign a category to each pic and to assign search keywords easily and to have a comments box for any misc comments. Just looking first before starting gargantuan task of writing my own. Thanks. :oD

We currently have work coming out of our ears but so far the people claiming to be advanced get a real awakening when they look under the hood. As a result we have lost clients and money. We realize contracted developers have other work and lives so we typically outline phases in our design docs that outline what benchmark we need met and at what pay. Occasionally we have clients willing to pay billable hourly. Hi, I'm just jumping from FM 6 to 8.5. I am looking for a solution of having objects (let's just simply say rectangles) I could draw and use in a browse mode. It is like having a layout of labels (n rows and m columns), but I would like to perform some action when clicking on particular object. So I want to draw X objects in a grid (not just in lines like it is possible in List Mode). Any ideas? If possible I would like to scale those objects - the height of each would depend on a certain number - the bigger number is, the height of such rectangle would be bigger as well. Thank you for your time and help, Robert P.S. Is there a way to open attachm…

I have created two tables one for customers and another for job information. Each customer has a unique number (say 1234) created when a new customer is entered and each job information has a unique number (say 2431). The tables are linked and work well. I would like to create a field that shows the customer number and the current job number together e.g. 12342431. At present the field I created just shows the customers number and the first job number for that customer and not the current job number. Or is it possible to click on a job in the list of jobs for that customer and have the job number change as this is done. Thanks in anticipation

After the user enters his/her answer there should be a "save" button of some sort, which then saves the answer on the users computer somewhere in a database.
