Hello, I have a FM file that stopped printing or I should say printing just blank. All other FM files seem to be unaffected. The "Preview" button in the print dialog (not the preview mode) turns up a blank page. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on? Thank you very much. Hipsig

Hello, I'm working on a work order tracking system. When designing the print layout, I'm running out of real estate. I would like to be able to print the products area (portal referencing a related table) in 2 columns, as it needs to only contain 3 fields across. I would just extend it vertically down the page, but the next section of the print has more info per line, and needs to cover the page horizontally. Is there a way to print this small section in 2 columns? Thanks in advance

I have an oddball printer (well, it's a plotter that uses the HPGL graphics language). Filemaker will easily generate the exact ASCII codes that the plotter wants to hear. And, under Windows XP, the plotter is configured as a Generic Text Only printer. I generate the needed plot codes (just a string of ascii characters) into a Filemaker Global text string. No problem. I can easily export text from the global text field into a text-only file, and then print it with another program. That works. But I don't want to go through the step of an intermediary file. Is there any way to directly send the ASCII text directly to the generic printer, …

Is there a help file anywhere on how to use web viewer to prepare reports I looked at it in the example file but I'm wondering how to implement it.

I cannot print page ranges in a report. The From and To in the print dialog will not change from the 1 that is in the box. It works in other programs but not Filemaker 7. I know this worked with Filemaker 4 or 5 before. These databases were developed with earlier versions of FM and now run under FM7. Could there be something there that prevents printing page ranges? Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible to print what I think are two different reports, without a page brake. I have no problem making each report, but the detail report may have very few or even one record and I'd like to avoid printing the summary in another page. The reports require diferent sorts and subsummaries and that is why I can't make them on one layout. Any ideas will be welcome.

Hi all, Maybe someone could help me with this, I have a DB with various tables (FM8), one of which is a Address table, where the client can also type a letter to an address. There is an Address entry, write letter and letter print layouts. Now when a letter is written and printed when the DB is running locally everything is fine, but when it's running from the server (FM7) the address is printed but not the letter text field. If one then overwrites the letter (same address) and tries to print from the server, the old text which was overwritten is printed. Configuration: FM Server 8 on Win2003, FMP 8 clients on XP and Win2000. Script prints from 5 layouts. Desired behavior: User clicks PRINT button, gets dialog to choose an arbitrary printer (one that their machine sees), script then goes to each layout and prints the current record. I can't seem to find documentation on how the Print and Print Setup script steps differ when hosted on server vs. shared from a client. FileMaker Help doesn't appear to address this. Hi, Invoices that I need to print may have one or much more line items. However, when having only one line, I would like lines ( as illustration B ) being printed to the bottom of the page (as if there were empty lines) so the the footer doesn't stick to the only line of the order ( illustration A ). Setting on the printer properties dialog box, such as duplex printing (double sided), number of copies and collating, do not migrate back to the print dialog box. What is intersting to me is that clicking the properties button on the print dialog box brings up the print setup dialog box. In other programs, the properties button goes right to printer properties. Could this be the source of the problem?

Filter down myselection. what is the Calculation field? for example: I have many aircraft with different tail numbers and each one fueled by one of two companies. ASIG or AVFuel(Signature). I'm working on a report, and records are not breaking across pages properly -- I have too much white space between entries. For example, record 1 appears on the first page, then there's a great deal of blank space, and then record 2 + 3 appear on the next page. I did select to allow the part to break over pages, and it does even look like record #2 could fit on the first page. I'm also using sliding, etc. Did anyone figure out how to solve this issue? I know that we've all been struggling with this issue for a long time, and I've ended up exporting to Word wherever I can, but I have a report I need to print out in Filemaker.

Hi, Having some trouble printing an image, all I get is a black box. On screen the image shows in both browse and preview mode, just doesn't print. Have tried as an inserted image on the layout and as a global container field but get the same output both ways. Any thoughts? Oh, it's a jpeg.

I'm trying to setup a custom page size and make a script for windows users for an HP 1022. Filemaker will not retain the printer info if it's a custom page. It does fine if I choose one of the standard page sizes! Is this a known issue with 8.0rv1 rv2 and rev3? Thanks Devin

I've 3 files: one (ordini) with a portal, where I insert the product ordered by customers; one (fornitori) where the portal products are records; and last (fattura) where display records portal and print invoice. Portal have 7 lines, in invoice print too. If I want insert 8 or more products, how can I do to print the invoice with all the portal lines?

An easy one, I'm sure: Mac OS X I made a new layout as a columnar/list report through the assistant. It's all set up, shows up fine in preview as 5 page document however when I go to print preview (pdf version) it only shows the first page. Printing without going to a pdf viewer results in the first page printing. No matter which page I print from I only get the first page to print. Any ideas? Thanks.

Goal: To restrict users from entering text beyond a certain point. Purpose: To avoid 2 or 3 sentances from being printed on a second page. (Save paper) What I've tried: validating by character count. Why this doesn't work: FM doesn't take hard returns into account, and Ucase characters take up more space than lcase ones. Latest idea: To validate by calculation that would limit the printable area to a certain number of rows in the text box. Is that possible?

I am using FM 7 and trying to print labels. 900 labels, layout is Avery 5160. when I print the computer will display error out of memory. The Printer HP 4000 displays an out of memory error then it dumps the job. I am using times font. I have no clue. Thanks in advance.

I am working on a student management set of files for my use in my classroom. I have figured out how to generate a total for the number of students in any given group by using a Counter field containing the number 1 and then a Summary field which totals the Counter field. I can generate a sheet which lists the students and gives me the total students in the group on a single sheet of paper. What I really want to do is generate a three or four column list of students with the subtotal underneath the list of names. ISSUE: A merge field does not slide up if the merge field above it contains no data in FileMaker Pro 8.0v3. I read about this problem in version 7 and understand it was fixed but I'm still experiencing this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

I use layouts which don't fit on letter format. Before we had only Mac OS X users, now we have also Windows XP users. We use different printers (all of them are HP). I wrote script to print and scale to 70% and printout is perfect always on mac, doesn’t matter which printer is used. When I print from XP, printout is different depends on the printer (and it’s driver). When I print to HP 2430, printout is scaled, but only a part of layout is printed, the rest is like cut. I'm having an issue where If I have a script prints a label, 2 sheets after I print the label I get only 1/4 of a printed page (from a normal laser printer). An example is I start up filemaker, print a customer a receipt and I print a store copy. I then print a label to my label printer. This all works. A second customer comes in. I do the same thing, but the store copy only prints 1/4 of the page. The customer copy and the label print fine. If I then go and reprint the store copy... its prints fine. If I print it a 2nd time it prints 1/4 of a page. But after that I can print it 20 (or more correctly as long as I don't print a label. I have the option to reprint …

I am using FMP 5.5. I have a DB with a summary layout that contians: body, summary field, Grand Total. When I preview the records, they show up beautifully. They take up 5 pages. When I print, ONLY the LAST page prints and I get 5 BLANK pages. The last page that prints shows all of the fields and the summary fields just fine, including the Grand Total field. I really like my Brother 5440CN multi-function but one issue I found is with Filemaker -- say I have 9 records in one file, I select print page From 9 To 9. The printer prints all 9 pages. My previoius printer (Epson) didn't do this, it would print just page 9. Is there a script I can use to print only 1 record (or current record) when there are mutiple records in the file? Through a parsing scheme, the records are sorted by client, employee, etc, and placed into a report that uses leading sub-summaries to break the reports into sections, grouped by billable client. I am printing an invoice from a list view in a line item table. In the header all the client information appears... Name, address etc. When I am in preview mode none of the information for the client appears, but it does appear when I switch to Browse mode. Also when I print the invoice it does not work. Interestly, it works on some clients and not others? The print script: goes to the line item table, find all the line items related to the job, and the client related to the job. Should I be doing this another way? Any help?

This is driving me nuts. I have a script that goes to a layout, switches to preview mode and prints a report. Everything prints fine. Here's the weird part: Preview mode shows the wrong record but prints the correct record. After printing, it switches back to browse mode and shows the correct record. This is happening on 2 different layouts. The users keep thinking it won't print right, so they abort the printing process even though it prints correctly. What would cause this? I would like to figure out how I could print 1 label for every product recieved off a Purchase order. If I recieve a quantity of 5 widgets for example, I would like to print 5 labels for that product. and then have it walk through each line item and print 1 label for each item recieved. I recently started using Filemaker 8 and have come across an issue that I didn't have previously. In earlier versions, when I would set-up the page options (example: scaling down to 70%), the layout I was working on would adjust accordingly; ie: allow me more room to enter field. Then I would use a script to store (and reuse) the page set-up over and over. Whenever I try this with FM8 - it just reverts to 100% - I can never see the effect of reducing a document to 70% for example. Help? Thanks Debra

I give up! I thought the printer selection problem was resolved in V8? I have a single-record 'report' consisting of about 10 different layouts (all portrait A4) and then an optional envelope. Needless to say, I do not want the user to cop 10 Print wndows, so I provide one Print[No Dialog not selected] step and then use Print[No Dialogue] for the remaining layouts. No matter what I do, any change to the printer in that first step is not carried forward. All Print[No dialog] steps after the first one print to the printer specified in the script step. I am using fmpro7 and would like to print multiple layouts from a related file layout that has a field with 25 repetitions on it. The original layout's repeating field is called "test description". Each test needs to print on a separate identical layout. I have created 25 duplicate layouts with the repeating field formatted as each number of the repeating "test description" field. My script opens each layout, prints the layout, then opens the next layout. How do I get it to stop and go back to the original layout when it gets to an empty row in the repeating field? A machine in the shipping department has three printers attached to it. One is a standard HP 1320n, which prints invoices and packing slips. There is also a Dymo 400 which prints inventory location tags for inbound freight. Lastly there is a larger thermal printer which prints shipping labels for outbound freight. Various scripts call various printing functions, but I can't seem to find a way to get each script to recall which printer it should print to. Is there a way to do this efficiently without showing the operator the print dialog each time?

I have a printout that involves printing several (as many as 6) layouts, one after the other. And while I want to present the user with a print dialog so they can select their printer, I don't want to force them to answer the dialog for each of the successive layouts. Instead I want the successive ones to default to what they selected for the initial layout. So, I have used the "no dialog" option for all but the first print command. I am having problem while printing Employee's Pay Envelope. I have EPSON LQ-680 printer and Pay Envelope Roll. it prints okay in first record but from the second record it prints just down below the envelope margin and it goes more further down in next record. I have a simple question, I am printing a membership directory for my club. Last year I printed the directory and was able to start the pagination in the footer starting with - Page 3 - rather than - Page 1 -. Having a bad short term memory, I have forgotten how to start with a specific number. I do know that to execute the pagination, I need to place ## in the footer. Filemaker has a limit to the size of a layout meaning 11 pages long. I have a text field holding the text of a book which I'd like an easy way to print. Perhaps an xslt export through xml or html. Also, I'd like to find a way to go through a body of text and make it format like a screenplay. Anyone have an idea?

I have a client that is always printing LARGE reports. Some of them are upwards of 500-900 pages. I have tried to get them to look at the data on the computer more but they are a little backwards thinking. The problem is that some of these reports take upwards of 4-8 hours to print and when they used to print them in filemaker 7, this was not an issue. The files would print very quickly. The reports are exact copies of the old layouts. I tried making pdf's of the same report from both versions and the report was 1.1 meg in the version 7 and 120 meg in the version 8. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to fix this, so I figured I'd throw it out there for people a little more experienced with FM8 than me... : I'm creating a printable report that has a description of a program, a list of the inputs for the program, and then a graphic showing a sample output. I put the description in a leading sub-summary, the list of inputs in the body, and the graphic in a trailing sub-summary. I am trying to use ProPrint on a Dymo labeler. Sometimes it will find the Dymo and print correctly. It seems to be an addin that has a major flaw. ProPrint support seems to be non existant. Do you have any experience with this addin? How did you get it to work? IW

I have a client that has a sales order solution with several scripts that print variuos things. One of the scripts prints an envelope. The script has worked fine for years and the only changes to the situation is the introduction of a new iMac. They can only print envelopes from one computer now, an old iMac running OS9. They are upgrading to 10.4, but have one machine running 10.2.8. All of these computers were able to print the envelopes from the FileMaker solution, before the introduction of the new machine.

I need to have multi-page invoices that print the totals and some text at the Bottom of the last page. FM8 has a title footer - but cannot change this to print on last page only - will only print on first page. Trailing totals will only print below last listed item - so could be half way up page. I have 2 separate tables that I need to include in a report. Putting table 1 fields into the part "Body" works as should and shows all found records from table 1. I have experimented using different parts for table 2, and the most I can get to work is to show only the first record from table 2. What's the best way to accomplish what I trying to do?

I designed a form in FMP8 Advanced. The file is shared by about 10 people. On some of the user's computers the form prints just as I designed it. On three computers, it prints with the right edge and the bottom clipped off. I have checked the print settings on FMP and the print settings on the driver and cannot see anything wrong. Have others experienced this problem?

I have a layout with labels on it. However, whenever I go to this layout, only one record appears. I'd like the addresses to print on one sheet of labels for all the records from that particular day of work. What am I missing here? Thanks!

When attempting to print any document from FileMaker 8, the filename in the printer spooler and the default name for any printed pdf is set to the *first* name the file was given on creation. Any idea how to change this and/or where this filename is stored ? You all take care. I will be back soon :

I have a report of just images inside of container fields. The weird thing is, the container field will not slide up if it's empty. So when I print the report, my images show along with a bunch of empty spaces. Anyone else have this problem and more importantly, how do I fix it? Also, as another possible work-around if anyone doesn't know how to fix the above, how would I: Omit Empty fields, particularly container fields. Thanks.

I have designed a list view layout that prints in three columns... it mimicks a form that we use. The problem is that if the number of found records does not fill all three columns, it simply stops displaying results and the boxes that need to show up (even though they are empty). Any idea how to pad the results or make lines appear in a list view once the results are done? I have attached a pdf example... you will see the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this? We host our file in house using FileMaker sharing so all of our employees can access the database. However, the host printed something the other day LANDSCAPE and now it defulats to landscape on everyone else's computers - same thing they switch printers (to a label printer) - everything comes out on 8x11 but only prints what would fit within the margins of a label. I have a calculation field set up to pull in Name, Company, Title and Address for some mailing labels for a client. This calculation will delete line spaces say for example, a record doesn't have a Title, no extra line space shows up. The weird thing is when one employee prints a sheet of labels, the last label on the sheet in the bottom right corner creates an extra space between the Title and Address, even though a Title may or may not exist. This happens on the same label, last one on the sheet on every sheet. When another employee prints to a different printer, the same thing happens but it is on the third label down. Hi everybody, I have an Epson POS Printer and I'm developing a POS Database. I'm stuck trying to print the ticket properly. If I chose to View the ticket as a Form it only shows me 1 record, in other words, just 1 item. I I chose View as List I can see all the records of the ticket, or all the items of the ticket, this means that I have the ticket like I want but I also have a big space because of the size of the paper. Hello all, A quick perusal of the previous posts has not solved my issue, so I venture to post the question here now. I have a layout that needs to include the field Name from all of the related records. There can be 1-10 possible related records, and I need to include all of the names inline in a letter format. It has been a while since I have done any work in Filemaker, and I am currently using Developer Edition 7.03 Any ideas to help me along with this?

On my invoices I have five fields: date, job description, time, rate, and charge. Four of the fields are always 1 line, but job description can run from 1 to 5 lines. I need to show the entire job description. I would like it to look like this: But no amount of sliding or resizing gives me the desired effect. I've also tried merges, but that doesn't seem to work either. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Hi, I'm printing with avery labels that allow for 10 labels to a page, but I don't always use all ten labels sometimes. Sometimes I only need to print 1 or 2 . . . . . . so assuming I have 1 or two blank labels left (on the bottom of the page) does anyone know a way that I can force filemaker to display "blank" fields to make up for a page that has already been used up? -so that I can just use the last remaining labels . . . -brian

Is it possible to use the automatic page numbering ability (i.e., ##) but have it start at something other than page 1? I have two documents that print one right after the other. The first one I have set to "reset" page numbers and it prints 6 pages. I want the second document to start at page 7 and go from there. But, I can't figure out how to do that.

Can anyone offer suggestions to help me manage a diverse solution with 8 files, each with a range of print scripts. (portrait, landscape,single sided,double sided, etc)What are some recommended approaches to this? I don't think it's possible but it would be excellent if all print set up and print scripts could be stored in one file.

I have a report that consists of several pages of text, all within the BODY. It is neatly formatted so page breaks occur at the right location. Unfortunately, each print driver is slightly different, so when I change printers the page breaks occur at different locations within the text, thereby messing up the report. I am told by FM that there is no ability to insert a page break into the BODY section. Any solution to this problem?

An actual business situation, but a brainteaser (- at least for me) nonetheless: I’m working on a report that summarizes individuals' hours of access to a building. It’s not used for tracking the hours they worked – just the hours they were present in the building. This is done by tracking the swipes of their badges into the building’s turnstiles (both in and out.) Hello all, I am not sure if this is in the right forum, and feel free to move it elsewhere. I have a report that is pulling images from a portal and is giving me a problem. In browse mode everything is great, sorting and breaking right, but when I go to preview mode and print the report the portal is only showing the last related records. What happened to the other records(images)? I have enough portal rows... I can't print my report from Browse mode, as that would take toooo long to go through so many find and prints...Any advice is appreciated.

All, I created a customer evaluation db using FMPro 6. I didn't have the opportunity to set up relational tables, so I'm stuck with non-relational layouts. Each record in the database represents a client survey based on a unique project number. We might generate for and receive from a client as many as 3 surveys per project number. I have a report that's grouped by Hour and Segment, with all related discussions appearing underneath each timeslot (that is, in Body). However, because discussions tends to be pretty lengthy, that field's been sized to be very big yet 'shrinkable' via sliding. Sounds good in theory, but in practice, something goes wrong. The list of discussions is always forced onto a new page! But if I shrink the Discussion field (and Body), the discussions correctly start appearing underneath the Segment again! I have been looking for a solution in FM7 to keep printer selection consistent for a given layout. I have installed appl. and tried an external autofil script but can not get it to work. Has anyone had any success with this option? I have just started to use FM8 under OS 10.3.9 and am using a file generated by a group in Italy in FM7. It has about 350 records with pictures. I'd like to print it on 8.5 x 11 paper in two columns, portrait. When I follow the Help file it seems to work, setting up a layout with a new name with two columns. When I view this on my computer it shows the two columns on an portrait, 8.5x11 area. All my page set up and print set ups are correct. When I print, however, it prints the two colomns in the upper 1/4 of the page; even though it is set to print 100%. It looks the same in print preview. Hello: I have a layout with a few Text fields on them and the text fields each have scroll bars. I'm trying to print out the layout so ALL the text in field prints. Is there a way to set the field to be "variable" in length when printing so that all the text can display. I've tried using the sliding up features to elminate white for the fields that dont have much data BUT my problem is just the opposite. I need more space so all the contents of the text box print. Here's my dilemma: I've got a FM database with student information for a school. Within that database, the ability to generate report cards is required. The database has a table with the student's information (name, address, etc.) as well as their marks and comments made by the teacher. (Just moved from older listserve lists to this fab new forum, so hello : ) I have a bookings system, master record BookingID, client details etc. Line items: date, details, cost etc. The booking report needs the Header with the Client address, booking codes etc. Then all line items to be shown in detail section, then a footer *per booking* as a confirmation return slip the client sends back signed with payment. I see that a lot of folks have had much graver troubles than I with printing in FM 7 on OS X, but I'm hoping for an easy fix to my problem: I have a FM 4.1 solution with a lot of reports that print with .25" margins, to cram in information at a legible point size. FM 4.1 has no trouble printing these on our HP 2100 series laser printer, which can go to within 1/8" of every edge. But FM 7 takes the same layouts and chops them off at 3/8" on one side and about 1/2" on the other. I am having a a simple printing problem It is taking ages to print a page from our catalogue. If I go to print it it takes about 5 minutes per page. I notice that the file size is enormous going to the printer 80mb, even though the file itself is not that big <2mb. Are there any suggestions. There must be a faster way to print this.

We run a mixed network off a G5 server. Printing from the Macs is fine but the wintels are very very slow, even spooling the job takes so much longer. I have tried by-passing the print server and have them print direct and have increased memory on guest machines. The printers are Canon multifunctionals. Other applications on the wintels don't have this problem. Would anyone be able to offer suggestions on this. Thanks
