First a bit of back story. We photograph high school graduations, and when we are doing the family and individual component of this we first take a photo of an ID Tag that has a QR code and the students details. In order to make these ID Tags, we create a Database with all the students in it for a particular school, and then select the layout that is formatted in the way we need, and we print 4 tags per sheet of paper, in numerical order, so page 1 has tags 1,2,3,4 page 2 has 5,6,7,8, etc. So, if for easy math, if we have 400 students, this would create 100 pages with 4 tags each. Hello In the last hour I have found out that changes that I have made to a number of FM files are not being saved. If I make a change in a file, quit, then re-open the file, the screen is the same as it was when I opened that file. This has come all of a sudden! What is the cause of this please? I have a script that generates a PDF from a set of criteria in a record and attaches it to an email using Apple Mail. On my Machine, a Mac Studio M1 Ultra, running FMP 19, on 12.7.1 and using Apple Mail 16, this works just fine. On another office machine, a iMac M1 also running 12.7.1, and FMP 19 and Apple Mail 16, when I press the button to trigger the script, the layout just sort of blinks and nothing happens. The only obvious difference is that the iMac is sharing the database that the script is part of (Mac Studio is the host) Before I upgraded to the MS, this behaviour still happened on my old machine, a 2018 Mac Mini, the other machine was the same. …

Hi Pretty much all in the subject line. Lately, when ever I click the edit layout button, it opens a new finder window on top of FileMaker. (also happens when exiting layout mode) I don't recall this happening in the past. Is there a way to stop that? I am on a Mac Studio running 12.7.1 and FMP 19.6.3.302 Cheers Craig

I have no idea why I'm having such a hard time with this... In FM19 admin console, i'm trying to setup the schedule to do backups to a mapped drive. I mapped a drive letter "W:" to "\\server\fm_bkp\" then created a folder "backups". so in the "backup Schedules" for Backup Folder, I have tried the following: filewin:/W:/fm_bkp/backups/ filewin:/server/fm_bkp/backups/ But I keep getting "the path is not valid". If I use a local folder ("filewin:/e:/TempBkp/ ") it accepts the path. Am i not allowed to use a mapped drive? therefore I have to save locally then copy to the remote server? This is probably simple solution and I'm overlooking something... I'm creating an estimate solution with all of the "Items" in first table and the second table holds each estimate for the client. ie. there is a long list of "items" that would be easier to choose from if the list wasn't so long. Trying to constrict/filter the list by category. Two tables: Items & Estimates Two fields: Category and Item in both Need the list to be filtered by the category. I do not want to use a portal because the "Item" should be housed in the estimate. I've tried self-joining relationships but I seem to be missing something or they are only portal based?

I have a layout that shows % of Business for each client for the year. When I print it, a straight list of all transactions for the year prints, not the summary layout. Any clues?

This error message makes no sense to me: "This operation cannot be performed because one or more required related tables are missing." This is when I am trying to delete a message! I can understand not being able to create or edit a record because of a missing table but able to add and edit but not delete because of a missing table makes no sense to me at all! I have several FM databases for a variety of reasons, and all of them have been in use for many years. I recently created a Record ID field in a few of the DBs to have another way of locating some of the data. But apparently, a record ID number is created when a new record is created. The existing records do not show this ID number. It would seem that each record in a FM db has a unique ID number, yes? Is there any way to populate this field with an existing ID number?

So I have a database for Audit Reports with a dashboard that displays the current status of those Audit Reports if the Audit Reports were Fully Implemented, Partially Implemented, Ongoing or Not Implemented. These status are shown on a Pie Chart with percentages on their status. I Also have a public website built with Joomla CMS with these same reports manually uploaded for the public view. I'm looking to build the same Chart on the website but I figured it would be easier if I could just link the Chart from the Filemaker Database straight to the Website. If any thought on how to accomplish this please give a hint.

I have a list layout that previews correctly but doesn't print and a saved pdf is also blank (except for the footer). How could this be? The issue seems to have been triggered by upgrading the OS to Ventura or an M1 Mac. All List layouts in multiple database only display the first record (or none) when printed as a pdf - without any scripts involved. New databases created just using a FM template don't display this behaviour. So it seems to be connected to opening database created in either earlier versions of FM or opened on M1 Macs. I just updated to FMP 19 from 17 and switched from Mac to Windows. I'm using a laptop, and when I try to scroll using two fingers on the trackpad, FMP doesn't seem to like that. It will scroll, but very slowly, and sometimes it just won't But no issues scrolling on anything else on the computer.

I duplicated a d/b and changed the Style from Sophisticated to Apex Blue. Then I adjusted the font settings from Arial 16 back to Verdana 11 as in Sophisticated. That worked perfectly except that the tab sizes on tab control remain big enough to accommodate Arial 16 which messes up my whole layout design. When I double click on the tab control, it shows the padding settings but won't let me change the top or bottom numbers. Why not?

So I play around with Custom Menu and I created a test custom menu with just the "Edit" menu in it. Then I saved it and set it as a Default menu for my database. Also my Database has an open script that hides the Menus. And now I cannot revert back what I did. I usually press keyboard shortcut "CNTR+SHIFT+S" to open my script window and run the script to show the Menus but the keyboard shortcut is not working after I applied the new custom menu. Can anyone please help me how to revert back? or access the script window?

I have been creating a new database for each new product arrival. Always the same model, just changing the product names and prices...And every time, I have to re-write the client names, their ordering so on. Hi brains trust Hopefully someone can help me. I am running FMS 19 on a Windows 2019 OS. I have a serve script that creates a PDF in a mapped drive. When I run this directly on the PC with the FMP client the file creates with no issues however when I run it as a server script I get an Error 800 (can't create file). If I run the same script but use path get(documentspath) it works fine. So this is definitely a permission issue but for the life of me I can't seem to resolve. Thanks Spiro

I have an FMP 19 file with 29 tables that was corrupted by Time Machine. I have now excluded all of my FMP file from TM backup and incorporated backup scripts in my most used FMP files. I did manage to find in my backups, an uncorrupted file from Nov. From the corrupt file I I exported all the records from all of the tables, then recovered each one of them and they showed no errors. I then imported them into the clean Nov file. I then recovered the Nov file and it is corrupted again. I tried this numerous times with a few other clean older files with the same result. I have made a Card Window to select a document number to assign to a foreign key in another layout. With the built in ability to create runtime solutions, FileMaker Developer/Advanced used to be a great place to do this. I have two databases. They have been set up with a relation based on a unique serial number. When I type in the serial number or serial numbers (separated by a carriage return) into the number field in database "A", it gives me a list of colors from database "B". Some of the colors for each serial number may be the same. Currently, I am getting a list of colors that are duplicates (ie: Blue, Blue, Red, Blue, Yellow). I want a field that simplifies/consolidates the list of text to just one of each (Blue, Red, Yellow). How do I go about this?

Hi, I have a Dymo Labelwriter 400 printer and was trying to print out some labels (they are in a continuous strip not on a full page) but the formatting was wrong. I tried a bunch of ways with both portrait and landscape orientation but labels still didn't print out right. So, I tried to format the label in a different way which I attached a small image of. It printed that way with all of the info but the orientation is wrong. So, I looked for some kind of tool that would rotate the fields so they would display right but didn't see anything. Hi, I ran up against a problem with trying to export a zip field that has a leading zero e.g. 01234 would export as 1234, I tried using Right ("00000" & zipCode; 5) but that didn't seem to work. Help! I had a Rich Text Editor working perfectly and, suddenly, it displayed just a "?" even though the underlying field still had all the data in it. I tried re-configurating but it said "This action cannot be performed because the required table is missing". I tried closing Filemaker, uninstalling the Editor and re-installing it. I tried deleting the accessory tables and starting the whole installation from scratch and adding it to a new layout. Previously, it had 2 tables installed but now it only installs one file: RichTextEditorAddon. I tried checking anything in the Inspector that needs updating but, everything I do, it still says the required table …

How do you create an OR function in a Perform Find script step?

Objective: Links from within the program to .mp4 files (audio and/or video) that are stored/hosted online and streamed to the webviewer inside the solution. These are not embedded or contained in any webpage or media player. Just the raw files with a filepath to them. Is there a way to get those to play in the webviewer. There are 9000+ of these files and creating a player or webpage for each is a daunting task needless to say. The idea is to keep the solution as small as possible (especially for mobile devices) so I don't think the container approach is the way to go. Any thoughts or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

All.. Disclaimer - I'm a desktop IT Support person. I'm not a Filemaker admin. Or even a user of Filemaker. We have a Filemaker server with multiple databases for different purposes. Is there a limit to the number of scripts that can run simultaneously on a server launched from a single application (not requiring completion)? Assuming that a script requires 10 seconds to run, what would happen if 10 of these scripts are launched simultaneously to be run on the server?

As an example scenario, if I owned an apartment building and wanted to have a wireless pushbutton in each apartment that when pushed would reach my FM application and be identifiable by the application (by a unique identifier (ie UUID)). I’m looking for the least expensive device that is WiFi-connectable that can, when ‘activated,’ can trigger an event in my FM program. I can accomplish this with an iPad, but I’m looking for something MUCH less expensive. Any ideas?

Example: I have an Asset table with a FK linked to the PK of an Owner table. On the Asset layout, I create a field called "Owner" which I select from the OwnerName field in the Owner table. With that selection, the system doesn't seem to know what the fk/pk field content is. So, if I want to go to that record, Ii can't use the Owner::PrimaryKey as the search parameter cos this layout doesn't know what it is. The Transaction table has the master side of the transaction and TxnContra has the opposite side. E.g. Transaction receives $1,000 posted to account 1 and TxnContra has $500 for a/c 2 and $250 for each of accounts 3 & 4. I created a solution which I want to give to other people. There is no data in it at all - they can add their own data. It's meant to be a database of audio tracks, so there would be no sensitive data. I made the mistake of starting with a file that had an all-access user defined. So I gave the "Admin" user all-access permissions and deleted the other all-access user, and allowed Admin to login with no password. But it still prompts for a user name. Is there a way to put this back to the default for a new file in FM - in other words, no prompt at all? I have been using FileMaker 16 on Mac OS 10.14 for many years. One of the scripts I have been using used an Applescript step to control iTunes and it worked without issue all that time. As part of my music licensing business, I often run applescripts via Filemaker - one of the main things is to import music into iTunes, set all the tags, convert to various formats, and export. Dear All, I am trying to combine data from 2 portals (different portal names) which belong to the same table. I need to create crosses by combining (all possible combinations) all selected parents from the portal on the left (portal.female) with those selected from the portal on the right (portal.male). I am a decades long user of FM and very frequently use a simple New Window command from button script in my solutions to display a log of user login and logout activity. That layout points to a table which is populated with calculated fields to record account, IP, timestamp, etc. This all works perfectly. I have a solution for auditioning audio tracks and searching for keywords. There is a track table where each track has a unique track ID, and that is related to a keyword table via a join table "kwd_file" which relates the track ID to the keyword ID's. So far that is pretty straight forward. But each keyword is assigned one of nine categories which have ID's and names, such as "mood" (catID = 1), "genre" (catID = 2), etc. So now instead of displaying all the keywords for a particular track, I want the user to be able to select one of the nine categories and only display the track's keywords that are in the selected category. My goal is to build a rudimentary game show-style buzzer for a team-based trivia contest. The simple scripts, which fire some lights and sounds, are mapped to a custom menu set which is running fine with commands like Ctrl-LeftArrow. I'm hoping to map them to be used with a Kensington slide advancer, which has three keys on it - 'b', 'PgUp' and 'PgDn'. I have often incorporated and even developed very successful machine loading models into FileMaker, but these are image detection models. I would like to use a text based model to determine the probability of the content of a text field being gibberish or whether it is populated with potentially meaningful English. When a user is active and I'm trying to close the database manager, I get the message below. The problem is that Christy Lynch's Privilege Set isn't admin. That privilege set is turned off. Her Privilege Set is Editors (second screenshot). I didn't get a screen shot, but a little later, the same thing happened with a different user, but it was presented as "Steph (Steph Appell)". Is there a way to store an email password in a database so that it remains encrypted or at least inaccessible to everyone who uses the database? I rely on the SendMail using SMTP for sending multiple emails, and the email account used to be a shared institutional account whose password didn't need to be protected form others with access to the database. But all institutional/shared emails at my University must now go out using the credentials of one of the shared account's owners, meaning that personal passwords will be stored in the database. Current Setup: Server, 6 desktops, 6 iPads Each desktop will be logged in using the same account (register) and the iPads will be logged in with the same account (iPad). I just updated to FM 19.5.2.201 and our snapshot links will no longer open files. I am able to open files directly. I tired creating a new Snapshot link, and get the following error message. BTW- LaunchPad is the name of the snapshot link. LaunchPadThis XML Package does not appear to be valid and cannot be used. Any ideas? Anyone else having this issue?

Trying to found out why it is necessary to run a csv file through Mac Numbers (it is not recognized by Mac Excel), i.e., by importing into Mac Numbers and then exporting again as a csv file before it will be accepted by an external system. Looking at the "before" and "after" csv files with TextEdit, the "before" file appears to be blank, the "after" file is what you would expect - text with commas. FM 19 does not seem to have any relevant options to influence the process at all when scripting the Export Records step. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am new to file maker pro coming from using Alpha 5. Alpha 5 is way way more user friendly but also way more expensive. In alpha 5 once you create a form you can click on any field in that form and then press a button and the table is sorted on that field. No need to open a dialog box each time you want to sort. No need to scroll down to find field. But the next feature is the one I am missing. Once you have sorted the table you open a find by key dialog box. Have written a financial database and need to find a way to eliminate/hide stocks from my portfolio when I have sold all of the shares but need to keep the financials from those stocks for calculations and summaries. I would like to display a chart showing performance scores for some shoulder tests as a proportion of affected to unaffected limb with achievement of 100% meaning they have reached their goal - I don't need to show any more than the target set by the unaffected limb. I have been able to get what I want on 2 separate charts, one for testing if the LEFT side is affected and one for when the RIGHT side is affected but I can't get it to work in the one chart (see file attached). I created a solution on Mac/FMP 19 which imports data from a remote mysql database, using the "Actualtech" ODBC driver. Now I need to migrate this solution to Windows 10 running FMP 19. I installed "mysql-connector-odbc-8.0.28-winx64.msi" from Oracle's site, and set up the DSN. I can verify that it works because I can add the external mysql DB to my relationship graph and see all the data in a layout. However, when I try to import the data into a local table, it imports zero records with no errors reported. Here's the script. We installed a database for a new client with its own in-house server and VPN for remote connections. The staff has regularly and reliably connected remotely for years. I have established the VPN connection, and it's rock solid. Great Internet service at each end point. But once I'm in the network, I can't connect to Server. I enter the IP address for the host, and I get "connection failed." Meanwhile, I'm in communication with client and she's working remotely this morning without problems. I'm not sure how my FM client will resolve the IP address because it seems to me it would be confused about whether it's on my in-house network or theirs. But maybe that's …

I recently tried upgrading to FM 19.3 and was greeted with the message, "This version cannot run with expired maintenance." Claris Support helped me resolve this, as we had just renewed earlier this year. However, I was just wondering if this message means that FM is essentially becoming "rental software" that you can't run indefinitely unless you keep paying. I have a layout that shows a popover menu that that allows you to to select one of many buttons that perform the same script using different script parameters for each button. i.e., the script parameter for button water is "water", the script parameter for for the button power is "power", etc. The layout is here. The script is as follows. Var1$ also sets the Chart Title. When I select the button water, power, media. etc. I get the appropriate chart title but when I select the JBJ button the chart title defaults to "Power" every time. Pretty strange. See the video. To do this, I want to click on the blue button at the top, whereupon a new tab should appear with the current date. For the next visits, you should be able to repeat the whole process. I have a layout with four fields. Two are auto enter fields, one is a field for notes. It is activated by a script trigger to automatically go to that field. I want to use a "OnExit" script trigger to move to another field after I enter data into the notes field. Seems pretty straight forward but it does not work. I use AppleScript step to do many file manipulations using AppleScript. I usually pass the results of the AppleScript to Filemaker by setting a text Field from within the AppleScript step. This has worked fine until I tried to create the following AppleScript. The Goal of the AppleScript was to find out if the Dropbox folder existed and if it existed see if the folder "Client Audio files" existed. If Client Audio files didn't exist then create it. I created a popover and set 12 buttons in it. Once a button is selected in the popover layout I set $$var to the button value via a script. I verify this using the tool function. I then use the script trigger on that button to perform another script that will use the $$var value. The thing I want to happen is when I click on any button in the popover layout, the system will gather the data and then close the overall popover. And then perform a script, maybe. Any thoughts?
