    How to make a field linkable? I read this could be done, but I can't manage to find the answer. All I need to do is have the cust_name field jump to another layout. Will the linkable field work in Table View? Will it work with Instant Web Publishing? Thanks everyone.

    I work in a lab and am creating a database where we can store all our information. I have two lists on completely separate layouts, but when I press the new or delete button on one list, an entry gets added or deleted on the other list as well. Is there a way to separate them so I can have them run independently? I've named all the parts of the list different names so they aren't calling the same information. However, both add/delete buttons on either page both run the new record/request script. Is there a way to make this script NOT universal so it only adds a new record on the page I'm viewing?

Each receipt is recorded on a single record, but may be accounted across multiple accounts.     we are a post production facility and keep a database of every commercial we make. they are stored on dat as well as wavs and high rate mp3s on an attached drive. i'd like to have the database listings (see attached picture) linked to the actual audio files so i can simply click on a title to hear it. the caveat is that i don't want to embed (if that's the right word) the files into the database or it would become unnecessarily large, i simply want to have the title of each commercial pointing to a location on a hard drive. is this possible?

    I have my db set up to handle expenses. I have the main table, "Expenses" and a related table, "Expense Items" The Expenses table is the entire invoice/receipt, where as the Expense Items are each individual line item on the invoice/receipt. I thought about using the tab feature to separate my expenses. One tab, credit cards, the other tab Invoices, etc. Question...does that sound like the best set up for what I want?     Hi there, Does anybody know how to get rid of the little black indicator strip at the left side of the window when in list view? I don't need it, but as I give my users no access to the status bar on the left, it makes the screen "jump" 2 pixels back and forth when switching from a Search layout to a Results layout. Sure, I could add 2 pixels on the left side in the appropriate layouts, but then I'd have the same problem with those users who are allowed to use the status area... Best regards, Mike

    I use a long calculation field to produce a text report from multiple fields. I use a header and footer on each page, and often the text at the top of the page at a page break is "clipped"--I can see the bottom 1/3 of the first line of the text. There is plenty of space on the first page/layout, but on some subsequent pages, a part is clipped off. A vexing problem--any ideas? This happens in Preview and when printed.

I have a membership renewal form that is PDF, is there any way I can import this thing as a layout template, so I can use it as a report for printing and screen editing? The source of the form is a Word file. Otherwise it's a long weekend of fooling with layouts.

I had to individually re-size each one to fit their screen. Does filemaker not automatically adjust the layouts to fit multiple screen sizes? Is there an option I need to configure?

    I am sure this was addressed before but could not find the thread. I have a columnar report that summarizes invoices by customer ID. I would like to have a GTRR button in the body to take me to the invoice. However, buttons don't work in preview mode. If I swich to browse mode I can't see the records. I have redesigned the report in list view, I can see all the invoices but they are no longer grouped by customer. Basically what I need is a report of invoices grouped customer ID with a gtrr button that takes me to the invoice or some sort of a work around to this issue. Thanks.

A report I need to display will take any subset of "sales" and give the following sub-summaries: a) The total number of sales in the found set for each publisher in the found set The percentage of the "number of sales for each publisher" compared with the total number of sales in the found set (for all publishers).     I have a summary report which works fine. It shows actions taken, grouped by staff and the specific action, and then it counts the number of actions. Each action has a date and I want to be able to filter the results if they fall between set dates. The dates which form the criteria for the report are entered in a custom dialogue box and become variables in the script. I have used these dates to give either a Yes or No result in a filed in the relevant table, the idea being to run the filter if the field says yes.   34. Hello, I love the way the filemaker template (task Management) inserts new(or old) customers into a customer portal. You click on assign new contact in the task tab and it pops up a list of customers and you either add a new customer or pick from a list of current customers and then it copies it into the portal. (I have attached an image for reference). Yet, I do not know how to replicate it into my own solution, I basically need to know the script to get the button to popup a list view of customers and be able to select a record to use in the portal?     I have a calendar layout with a portal that shows all Jobs for a Day. There are multiple Jobs per Order. The portal is sorted by start time, but different Jobs on the same order may start at different times. It would be unusual to have more than 10 different Orders (and 30 Jobs) per day. I'm trying to come up with a way to assign a highlight color to each Job of the same Order. Having the same color to an Order over multiple days would be ideal, maybe required.     First of all, I want to thank everyone on this site. Everyone is so helpful and quick to respond. So I have a database that keeps track of an exchange program of American and French students, that are exchanged between their home universities. I'd like a layout (almost like a student directory printout) that has French students on the left and American students on the right, sorted by which American University they're going to and coming from respectively. My database contains a service call ticket for each and every invoice that is processed through our company. I want to include a few important pieces of info in a record for each invoice and then link a pdf of the invoice to the record.     I'm looking for a way to hide or show radio buttons based on whether two text boxes have data in them or not. So far, I've tried conditional formatting for the buttons, but this only hides the text, while the buttons themselves stay showing. I've also tried the 'trick' with a single row, self-relational portal containing them. The portal does hide and show when I change the value of the text boxes, but the portal only shows the radio option chosen, not the buttons themselves (i.e. when I choose a different radio button, the value in the portal changes).   40. For my invoice table, I have a Trailing Grand Summary part. All it really lists is the total for the invoice, but it's important that this total be near the bottom of the last page (above the footer). Being a trailing grand summary, it already appears on only the last page as it should, but is there any way to cause it to appear at the bottom, instead of right after the invoice's body? I can expand the height of the summary, but since each invoice is a different length, it sometimes jumps to the top of the next page.

    hello i have a layout [in listview] and want to trigger a script whenever user clicks on the layout [outside the fields]. almost all the fields on the layout are locked and cannot be clicked in/on with the exception of one field which is active for some calculations. this field must keep a focus all the time for the calculations to work. this is the only reason why i want a layout level script to prevent the user from losing the focus on that field and when the user clicks on the layout i reset the focus back to that field. so this way field will never lose the focus [hopefully]. so how can i link a script to the layout for this purpose? thanx in advance. …

    I've decided I want to hide the left status area. I have easily put the total record count and record number on my layout. Even if the records were unsorted, the status bar showed an incremental record number. In other words, what I have right now on my layout is shows "3 of 97" then the next one may be "45 of 97" etc. The status bar whether sorted or not kept this incremental, is there anyway to mimic this?

    I have youmehub 2, a filemaker pro database... I need some help in getting my address and logo properly inserted into the invoice. The "email invoice" button generates a PDF as a mail attachment in Apple mail and sends it to the contact recipient. There is no place to edit an invoice template, like in their version 3 program. I can upload my logo for letterheads, and this gets used for invoices, but nothing else: I just want to get my address on the invoice... stupid stupid developers for not including the company address in their invoice code. Also, my logo is blurry, even though it is a PNG file. It looks good before the import, looks horrible on the invoice. …

    We recently had a fellow whom, being very proud of his Irish heritage, wondered why our system always displayed his name in title case, rather than allowing for a second capital letter in his family name. I figured that this was a simple formatting issue, but I can't seem to turn it off. When the field was originally defined it had an auto replace calc on it to set the contents of the field to title case, but that is switched off at this point. The reformatting happens as the name is being keyed; not at commitment. Anyone have any ideas? At this point it just seems bizarre to me.

  53. hello as the topic says, i want to disable or completely remove/hide the top right corner buttons [clsoe,min,max] of a popup window n limit the user to a button only to close the current active window. the reason to do is that the button is linked to a script for some calculation and i don't want the user to create problem by using the window [x] button to close it and by-passing the script. so how can i accomplish this? thanx in advance for the help.

  54. I've developed a pretty nice database for running my cabinetshop. Most of the components are in place and running well. I'm having problems, however, with one report. I need to develop a document that shows task fields in a column and cabinet identification numbers in a grid. I can generate this report easily in MS Excel but this would be the only component for my cabinetshop that comes from the dark side.     Hi Guys I'm fairly new to file maker and would like to make entering data into a description field easier. The area for entering the data is quite small, however, as the data is entered it enlarges the data field. When entering large amount of data I would like the box to open up - eg - when I enter information into an "other" area - a window opens and the data can be entered. In other programs I have used - when the edit box is double clicked - a window opens up which can be sized up as needed. In this way it is clearer to see the information entered.     Hello, I am trying to print a list of products by category from our inventory list with each category name being printed first then indented underneath the complete list of products in this category. At the end of the product list for a specific category it would print the next one with its complete list of products and so on. I would like the list not to break for a new page when it's reaching the end of a particular category. This obviously involved a loop (for checking all categories one at a time) with a loop inside to check all the products within each category. What is the best way of achieving this goal?     Hello I am working on a contacts database which requires companies to be classified by Category and then sub-category. So for example, emergency services would be sub categorised as fire ,police etc. Basically I would like to limit the choices on the sub-category field according to what is entered in the main category field ie if category emergency services is selected then only choices related to that category are available (by drop down list), in the sub category.   62. I am setting up a database for my emails but the junk mail is killing me. I have set up elaborate rules to get rid of the junk but some always comes through. What I am trying to figure out is how to select multiple records at once in a table layout and delete them. I want to be able to check records 1-3, record 6, and reocrds 11-30 for example as they are all junk mail. The problem is that hitting delete for each one is tedious. Does anyone know a way to just click on a grouping of records in the table layout so that they can be deleted together once Im done picking through all the records?     I have a portal in a layout. The layout only has one record and I related the table to a global field in the table for the portal so it currently shows all records in that table. What I want it to do is when the layout is opened it will filter the portal's records to be only when the staff field is the same as the logged in account (using a get function). Is there a way to filter the portal records like this or should I give up and put this data in a separate window.

    On Filemaker Pro 9 I have set up a field with numeric values as a currency with two decimal places (e.g. £100.00) however, when this information is merged over to a Layout that i have set up, the merge field only appears as 100 without the £ or the decimal places. The two decimal places only appear if they are not zeroes. Please can anyone advise how i can enable this field to merge as it is shown originally? Thanks

    Hi, I apologize for this dumb question. I have a line item db which consists of cust #, inv #, date of inv, item code, item description, amount. There is an invoice layout with a subsummary. If I manually select each inv #, I can print the invoice without issues. My boss wants to enter one invoice date in a find, which would return a large group of records, and print all invoices based on inv #. Currently, all found records (based on the date) print on the invoice, regardless of inv #. Within the found date, how do I tell FM to print all the line items associated with that invoice #, then move on to the next, and the next?

  69. I am entering text only on a set of layouts providing "help" information. Some of the text areas automatically return to the next line as I type. Other areas push the right hand margin further to the right if I don't do a manual carriage return. I can't find the setting that makes the return to next line automatic.     Hi, I was wondering if there is a function or script that would automatically resize user input text in a field so that it fits to the box. I have a form that requires user input, as well as the ability to print the form, so if a user inputs a lot of text into one field, I have to have it so that it makes the font smaller to fit in the box. However, with the layout I made the 5 necessary fields are next to each other across the top of the page, which is what I want, but the layout only prints one record per page.   77. ;) I am attempting to create a new table and have it display in a portal. Problem is, the field entry areas do not display when placed into browse mode. I have even attempted to copy an existing portal and have same issue. If I create the table/fields and add them to a layout without a portal, same thing happens. When I look at the relationships graph, table looks like the rest of those that do work, but it doesn't display. I am probably not understanding some small item, but it's become really frustrating. Help is appreciated! :P

    Has anyone run across the issue of invisible buttons behaving awkwardly in IWP on Internet Explorer? Our solution has a series of radio buttons that, when selected, perform a script. The scripts are triggered by invisible buttons placed over the radio selections, unfortunately in IWP on I.E. 6.0 (XPsp2) the buttons are to the far left and far right of the scripted buttons and are not over the intended area, i.e., directly over the radio button itself!?!   80. When I try to create a tab using Filemaker Pro 8.0v2 on my Mac (OS version 10.4.11), it displays correctly in "edit" mode. But when I enter data-entry mode, FM "sees through" the tab - and displays all fields (from all the tabs) stacked on top of one another. Clicking the other tabs, I see the same thing - all fields stacked. Worth noting: one of the tabs contains a large table. I have a layout with portals for each table showing the records I want to display, however I cannot get the portals to shrink down when displaying the layout in Preview mode.     I have a solution converted from FM 5.5 to FM8. I am working on tweaking all scripts, etc. The solution has a dozen files. Like in FM 5.5, navigation is from file to file via buttons that call scripts from another file. The issue is that when I move from one file to another via scripts (it looks like a typical tabbed folder system), I briefly see a "ghost" of the files.   89. I have a field for an insurance number that contain up to eleven digits, but may be less. I would like create 11 little boxes in the data entry layout so that the person entering data can see that they have entered the correct amount of digits. Something like this, except 11 boxes: (sorry my drawing will not "cut and paste") (for now lets assume I do not want to use the “define database” field validation options) Also each time a digit is entered the cursor moves to the next box. Ex: I have a list of sales, sorted by employee one employee has 100 sales I want their name at the top of each of page(kind of like "NAME cont"). Second, is there anyway to 'freeze' objects, as you can do to cells in microsoft excel? I need fields on the leftmost part of the screen to scroll when the screen scrolls.     Ok on my database I made 10 records. I added a button for deleting the current record only. If I delete record 10 then 9 and then 8, it deletes ALL the records! If I right click and delete doing the same process, the same thing happens. Any advice on how to make it only delete one at a time??

    I am new to this site and asking for help on line, please excuse any errors I might make. Is there a way to make sure that a field has data in it before leaving that field by tabbing, changing layouts, clicking, quiting, or anything else? In this case I want them to put in a quantity before doing anything else. I have tried the valadition "not empty" and some "If" calculations, nothing I have tried is totally fool proof.
