    I trying to create a statement to email out to my customer every month. and what i have on my layout [part setup] are: Header, Body, Trailing Grand Summary and Footer. The problem I'm having trouble with is in my Trailing Grand Summary i have 1 field for "Statement Total". If my customer has 10 outstanding invoices past due the invoices all shows but my total is always on page 2. i still have a lot of room to have all the outstanding invoices and statement to show on 1 page. Does any body also have a code for "over 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, etc ." Also because my date is located in the Header section i can't change the edit the date of the statement...any suggestio…

  2. So I'm trying to do this thing that's very similar to hi-lighting rows in a portal. Basically I'm trying to make a calculated field that looks like this If ( SubCategory ≠ "Main" ; Whitebox ; "" ) where Whitebox is a graphic of a white box and the result of the calculation is a container. I'm trying to put this field on top of another field so that if SubCategory is "Main" the bottom field shows, otherwise it's covered by a white box.   6. I have documents to fax and need to have a face sheet with "to and from data" along with lots of legal mumbo-jumbo. Each following page needs to have the office address at the top and senders name at the bottom and of course, data in between I planned on using a Title Header for the face sheet page and Headers and Footers for the data at the top and botton of each page with the Body in between for the records I want to transmit.   7. I created an entry form for data and my wife (who uses Filemaker Pro) for her work decided she wanted to see a spreadsheet rows and columns display for a while. Now we cannot seem to restore the data entry form I set up that has client information all on one page (there are so many fields, one has to scroll right a lot to enter data and to do searches). Only way I can get to that is to go into Form View and I'm expected to edit the entry form in that mode, not do data queries or display records.     Hi, I am new to the forum here and I have a quick question. I just installed filemaker onto server 8. Every time I click to form view from list view (or vice-versa) I get a warning saying "Do you wish to save this change with the layout?"     Over time I have made frequent use of the FMP labels wizard to create labels layouts using Avery A4 Australian labels. (and yes, the page set up is set to A4) Recently I have had the problem of some labels not printing, even though the layout looks fine in preview mode. I have been able to resolve the issue on a couple of occasions by creating a new layout. I have no idea why this solves the problem because I haven’t done anything different.     Is it possible to create buttons that are functional in preview mode? I've been searching this forum but can't seem to find an answer. The reason I want to use preview mode is for the sub-summaries and sliding objects/shrinking fields. These don't work in browse mode, so I need to preview. However, I can't seem to enable any buttons/scripts while in preview mode (such as a button in a portal row to display the contents of the related record). How do others handle this type of scenario?     When an edit box field has more text that can be viewed within it's boundaries, if you click on the field, the information expands to show all of the text. However, when you do this, the contents of the field are also editable. I am concerned that my users might accidentally delete or alter the information--perhaps even without realizing that they did. Is there some way to make all of the text visible while still keeping the field protected? I don't want to just make it read only because the users should have access to create and edit this information. I simply want to only allow editing from a custom "edit" layout to avoid mistakes.     Has anybody else encountered a problem where a drop down list appears as wide as my screen? I have checked every thing I can think of and I can't seem to solve this problem. The field is in a portal that I use to connect a parts inventory to a product.     Quick question, Has anyone ever used a timer for dialog boxes? I have a system that allows the user a second chance to print a receipt, but a lot of the time the user doesn't reply to the dialog. I want to duplicate this layout and when they select the layout (from the layout selector on the left) it will only display records that have a Y in the field.     I've searched the forums, but have not yet found a resolution to my "text-wrapping" problem... : The file options DO have "roman" line-breaking checked, yet the "wrapping" continues; displaying text in an off-kilter alignment. Fields that do not have enough text wrap to a second line appear with the correct horizonal alignment. This is a new FM8 solution for Windows XP displaying data that was provided to me in a *.xls format, which I opened FM8A and then imported into the new solution. My apologies if I've missed a previous post resolving this issue.

    I am new to FMP coming from a Microsoft Access background. In an Access report you can create a "layout" with a text field that has a property setting of "can grow". This allows the vertical size of the text to grow to account for the fact that in one record you may have 25 characters and in another you may have 200. The only thing I can find that is similar in FMP is the "sliding" feature - although it appears the sliding feature has a significant limitation in that you must initial set the size of the field to hold the largest amount of text entered and it will then shrink as necessary.   30. I have a Tab Control object into my layout. One tab is Credit Card and the other is PayPal. Of course, credit card details show up in the CC tab and PayPal details show up in the PayPal tab, however, people only pay with 1 method. So what I'd like to do is be able to have the CC tab up front on records where payment type is CC, and PayPal tab come up front on records where PayPal was used. Possible?     My application involves a moderately complex layout with over 150 different fields on nested tab panels. For months now, I've fought flaky tab settings. Going into and out of Set Tab Order (e.g., to add a new field) causes FileMaker to very often drop the first tab I had defined, which wreaks havoc on runtime operation, of course.     I have a solution that requires 15) 8.5 x 11 pages for each record. So far, all I seem to be able to create is 10 -- FM will not allow me to "pull down" or resize the layouts any larger. I could create a secondary layout for pages 11-15 but envision other issues when trying to create a single pdf and/or the bothersome solution of two print dialog boxes (one for each layout) when printing. Is there a preference or way to allow a single layout to have 15 pages rather than the 10 I am apparently being limited by? Thanks

  35. Many times I add a Go to Related Record behavior to a field in a layout so I can just click on that field to view the related record. When I go into Find Mode, though, this field remains a "button" although it doesn't do anything at all in Find Mode. I can't enter any data into this field to Find on, though, because it switches the cursor like a button and when I click it tries to activate the related record...which of course there isn't one and nothing happens. How can I disable this in Find Mode so that I can still search on this field, yet be able to use it to view related records in Edit mode? Any info would be great. thanks!

I like to maximize open windows inside of FM application, but many of the layouts/windows that I work with cause my window to fit to the size of that layout or something and I have to re-maximize all the time.   39. I have a task-list printout using Sub-Summaries by Status. Each occurrence of the sub-summary part starts on a new page. For instance, first I'll have the Status: Complete sub-summary, followed by its records, then a new page, then the Status: Waiting sub-summary, followed by its records. The only thing checked in the Sub-Summary dialog is "allow part to break across page boundaries." The layout setup is specified as View: List only. It's been a while since I've used printouts with sub-summaries (i.e. FM6). Is this just how it is or am I missing something? Thanks for any suggestions.

  40. I have a "notes" field using an edit box that the user can scroll up and down for adding text on a record. I want to have a button that when clicked it will insert the current date in red and bold at the point the pointer is in the notes field and have the text the user enters in black. I can make a button and get it to insert the date but I cant work out how to have it do it in a different colour.     OK - I have finally figured out how to assign different colors to a value (e.g. <60 red, 60 orange, >60 green) using a calculated field and a case statement .... however in my layout, the color gets overwritten by the color used for the field - when i click on the field it changes to the correct color, but when i just look at it - it does not..... how can i tell the layout to use the color assigned to the field??

    For some reason I am having a tab order problem on my layout. Scenario: I added a field to the layout and it automatically put in a tab #. I had complaints from staff as this was a field out of the normal view for admin use only. I deleted the tab # and then reorganized the order. This messed up the way it was ordered. I've looked at a backup copy and reset up the tab order the way it was but it still isn't working like it was. I have tabs 1-4 in fields from the current table on the layout. The next tabs are in the portal. The backup copy skips 5 and then goes to 6 7 8 9 skips 10 then 11 and 12. When I set the same numbers when I click ok it changes them to be…

    I have a list of invoices with a product; the quantity sold; the price of product; the royalty rate as a percentage and a calculation field that calculates the royalty rate times the price to give the royalty payment. It works fine. I have them sorted by product. I have a sub-summary with price summary and a royalty payment summary that shows what the total of the price paid is and the total of the royalty payments owed.     I'm trying to omitt records that I use for tracking my jobs. Once a job is complete I would like to Omitt it from the report. I wrote a script that omits the jobs that are complete and it works. Each job has multiple records under each job title and it gets rid of them all. Woot! My problem is the jobs that are not complete it omits some of the records in them as well. It still lists the job as not complete, but some of the related records are gone. There is nothing in the fields that I told it to compare with to find out if the job is complete, but it still omits them. Has this happened to anyone else?

The problem is unwanted blank space in line 2 of my (auto-generated) Avery 5160 label layout when there is no person #2 in that <<>> field.     I created a FM database which basically is a timesheet tracking database. However, the output reports are based on 3 seperate forms. These forms were imported from MS Word documents. I created a layout for each form. I need to be able to print each form individually and I need to be able to print all 3 forms as a 3 page document.     While the user manual is a little thin on this subject, other info says that I can set a tab order to include a button on the layout. I have followd the instructions, selected "objects" and numbered the fields so the next tab numbered after the last field is a button. Problem is , it won't go to the button, it just skips back to the first field in an endless loop. I tried removing all tabs and starting over rather than renumbering and deleting existing tabs but it doesn't make any difference so I am stumped. Anyone have this problem besides me.

    The popup menus that I created on a Mac, and now host on Server 8 (also on a Mac), behave strangely on a Windows 8.5 client. Is there a way to format a regular field (a pop-up menu, FYI) as a rounded square? I have it on a layout with a bunch of other buttons and I want it to look uniform.     I'm working on a computer inventory database for the school I work at. Part of this inventory records the hardware addresses (MAC addresses) for each computer. I also receive the blocked page notifications from our firewall and I try to monitor their screen in Remote Desktop. However, the firewall likes to send the notifications with the hardware addresses formatted like this 00.03.93.xx.xx.xx, while our inventory (like everyone else's in the world) has them formatted like 00:03:93:xx:xx:xx.     Using 8.5 I'm trying to create a simple invoice layout using a database with only x2 tables: Order Placed & Order Item(as supplied by a 3rd party)related by Order ID. I've created the layout to show from the Order Item table and set it up with Title Header, Header, Body, Footer & Title Footer and included sample text in all layout parts to test the results. When we use it at work, we will need to save both 'order' layout and the 'delivery note' layout as one pdf (with each layout a separate page on the same pdf). i can't find a way to do this..     I am new to these forums and I have a problem. I have created a database where i have the name of a company and a relationship to partners in a portal. Each partner has a different role, example 1 or 2 may be Grantor, 1 or 2+ may be Trustee / Co-Trustee and 1 or 2+ may be Beneficiary. So what I need to do is be able to print lets say the Grantor in one part of the letter, the Trustee in a different part of that letter, and the Beneficiaries in another part of the same letter.     I am trying to have Customers names be automaticly entered when I go from the customer info layout, to lets say, a Customer Change order layout. I would like to enter the information in the Customer Info. field, and then when I go to the next layout, the Customer name field is automaticly filled in with what I put in the Customer Info field.     One of my files (and various derivative copies of it) are intermittently not showing up in the Window manu. I'm well aware that hidden files are behind the "Show Window>" menu item, and these aren't there either. Anyone else seen this? A sign of corruption, possibly? (God, I hope not.)     I have a table 'a' containing a 'total' field summaryzing several related records. Sometimes I need the sum of the 'total' fields from a long quantity of records from the 'a' table. I save this into a 's.total' calculation field using the GetSummary function. When in browse mode I go into the layout containing 's.total' it takes a long time to get the calculation.     I'm confused. I have two related databases, one that holds information (demographics) and another that most displays the data through multiple portals. I want the users to be able to scroll the portal and the larger text field within (student_information). The issue I've run into is that on some layouts users are allowed to edit the student_information field - no problem with the scroll bar working fine.     Ok, I have a Indexed Text field that I want to keep the user from modifying. So I went to field behavior and unchecked allow entry in browse mode. But I want the user to be able to copy the contents of the field, so I created a copy button specifying that field. But copy button wont work if it cant go to that field. Tried several work arounds like creating an unstored calc field that would hide behind the copy button..lol But, not a real answer to the problem. Also, there is no validation on this particular field, and only want to lock this one field down, not the entire record or layout.

    Hi All, Newbie Question: I have three tables, that are not related. I have created layouts for each. Two of the tables work fine, the third one when I'm in browse mode and select "Record / New Record" I can enter the first record, but when I add the second record it allows me to enter the data but there is still only one field. It does not create a new field, any idea what I have forgot to do? Also when in Layout mode with this third Layout, the "Layout Part Labels" Header, Body and Footer are arranged Horizontally and not vertical. Is there a way to flip the Labels vertically?     Hi All, I came across this problem last week. Under the FORMAT Menu, there is a USE System Format right at the bottom of the menu. On some other installations, e.g. Win XP Home & XP Pro, some of them have that option and some don't, thus the user cannot switch the System Format on/off. All the users using the FM trial version.     I am trying to print files in A4. However everytime I open any record it defaults back to Letter size paper. When I print it prints on 2 pages. If I manually change the paper size to A4 every time in Print setup it will print properly.     Hi, I have a customer order data base. I have a layout for printing labels showing customer info and product info. I need to print a label for each product ordered by a customer. For example: If they ordered 6 apples and 2 oranges, I need to print 6 apple labels and 2 orange labels with the customer name on and product info on them. What steps do I need to take in order to do this? I am able to print one label for each type of product for a customer, but can't work out how to get multiples to print according to their order quantity. Thank you in advance.
