I have a table that contains information about a phone call. Things like: Call Date, Call Time, Duration, Extension #, Hold Time... Anyway, when I view the information it's in a list view and I can see all the calls in order by Call Date/Time. I have scripts setup to format the results, and perform searches.. but what I would like to create is a dash board layout. Something that would be setup to count the number of records that have a given extension. This way I can see at a glance how many calls a given extension has took on the day. Hello, I am new to FileMaker and I am trying to create summary report. I have a donations database. I have a Donation table that tracks Amount, Date, donationID, etc. I have Cause table that has LocationID, Project_CodeId and CauseId that the donation was given towards. I have created a relationship between these two tables based on Primary Cause Id and Foreign Cause ID in the Donation table. Having difficulty describing the problem: I would like to be able to select a field, begin typing the first 1 2 or 3 letters of, let's say, the persons first name and then be able to select from a shorter list of names rather than having to do a traditional "find" There are solutions all over the place on websites. For example, when you enter your state for online purchases, you can type in the letter "N" and it will take you names in that list that begins with the letter "N" and so on. I am working with 10 different schools' voluteer groups. The database is used to track volunteer hours. Each group from the ten locations uses the same form, but the volunteer value list for each location is different. I want to know if I can use a value list in a certain field. let's call it "where worked" and have the value list change in the drop down box based when I type and assigned number for each one of the 10 locations in a different field. This is probably a simply question for all of you, but I am new to filemaker and databases in general. I have looked all over and either don't understand what I have found as the answer or can't find it. I am tracking sales in several categories in several stores. I would like to be able to pull out the total sales for each store/district for some period. I don't want to see the weekly sales, just the totals. store a 12,345 store b 10,125 store c 14,324 etc... I'm developing a solution, and I wondered if there's a way to hide to the bar along the bottom of the window. Not the actual FMP status bar, but the one that displays zoom buttons and the find/browse/preview selector. Reason is I'm using a few layouts as pop-up windows, but they look really ugly with those buttons along the bottom (plus i don't want users to be able to randomly switch into find mode, etc.)

i'm transforming my db from a strictly portuguese one to a tri-lingual one. now i have some valuelists defined with values in portuguese. in the multilingual future of our company, we need to add records in all three languages and not all of our employees will be able to understand all of the languages. Furthermore, in the search function, the results should include all the records in all the languages, p.e. searching for "empresa" should also bring up all the records filed under "company". Recently we deleted a few layouts and reorder the layouts in the same file. We found that that particular database starting to have navigation issues with our users. They would click a button to navigate to a specific layout and it would take them to the very first layout in the list. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi All, I want to create a script to attach to a button that when pressed will go to a layout in another filmaker file. I have created multipule Webviews on 1 layout with the tabs of the website appearing on the top. I have created a back and forward button to go back or forward to the previous web pages. I would like the buttons to work on all webviews, but I'm stuck on how script, if viewing webview tab 1, then go back...else if viewing webtab 2, then go back. We use an FMP order processing system for call-in orders, and after the order is taken, a "send mail" script runs to let accounting know to expect payment. However, in cases where the order contains more than one item (related records is a LinteItem table), the text calc in the "send mail" script step is only capable of sending the first item on the order. Is there a way to include all related records in a "send mail" text calc?

Hello all, I did a search for this and didn't find any reference. I want to make a layout with about 25 A4 pages and print them all in one. The layout size limit is 110in x 110in so I should get about 100 A4 pages on it which is more than enough. But, I can only print the left column i.e. 10 pages. (and they only show in preview mode) Is there any way I can do this without having to make 3 layouts and print them separately (which is OK for hard copy but not so good for .pdf I would appreciate your help greatly. kind regards Tony

I have been reading through the posts here and searching all the resource sites, but I can't seem to find an example closest enough to my needs to get it figured out. It seems like it should be fairly simple, but I just can't wrap my head around it. I want to show a value list based on the result of a first choice, but I want the 2nd value list come from one of two tables depending on the 1st choice: So... The person chooses "all" or "by building" or "by person" in the first list. If they choose "by building" they would get a list of buildings which are stored in the building table. If they choose "by person" they get a list of names from the name table.

I've got a database with five parent tables, three of which you can write to via their relationships, two of which you can't write to via their relationships. Some of the child tables can't be written to either. I've setup the relationships in such a way, so as to maintain data integrity. Here is the relationship graph. New records have to be created on a monthly basis. I'm looking for ideas for how to present to the user a value list from which he can make multiple selections. This is the "Categories" field of a Contact Manager - a given contact may belong to an arbitrary number of categories. The value list is long (30-40 items) and it may be extended by the user, so whatever interface element I use should accomodate its size and variability. I think this pretty much rules out the usual checkbox interface. When a Contact record is edited, assigning a category should by default add to, not replace, any previous categories. The stock item (Finished Stock inventory table)has 2 substrate fields (Sub1 and Sub2) which it can be re-output on. To re-output the stock item...user must raise new order (new orders table). Hi Friends, I have a layout based on a person table. I would like to connect 2 people together based on a relationship like friend, wife etc. Because each person can have many relationships, I created a join table and linked it to another table occurrence of the person table. My problem is choosing the second person on my layout. I can enter the type of relationship (saved in the join table) but can't choose or type in a person reaching through that relationship. I have a couple of "buttons" on a few of my layouts where the button label will not show, and on others it does. (Note: these button are graphics,not made with the button tool.) I have sent the button graphic 'to the back' and sent the label 'to the front,' and still the label is not visible. Anyone got a clue what is going on? Thanks for the assist!

I hope everyone is having a good week. I have layout designed to be a Columnar Report. It works, as long as I do not perform a find before I view it. After the find is performed, the grouping based on a field no longer works. This is true for all layouts using the table used in the find. "Show all Records" has no effect on the problem. I have to restore a backup of the file to correct the problem. Help?

I seem to be full of questions this week... Sorry again if this has been talked about before. What I'm trying to do is create a script step that will filter all results of a field so that the portal only shows what you're looking for. It's easy to do if its not a portal. What I have is 5000+ songs that people can play if they select them. Sometimes the name might not match what the people will be thinking so a search works much better in this case than filtering based on the first couple letters in the title. I am trying to write a calculation for a field that will compare a fixed date to a list of dates within a portal. If any of the portal lines has the fixed date then the script should return a value of "Yes." Within the portal the fixed date will never occur more than once per record. I have a portal going on some of my layouts, and when you click on a field the portal entries show up as the background color I'm assuming because the fields are clear. The background color is brown, the portal color is white so there's a bit of a nasty difference. I need to have the fields be clear because (a) I have a highlight field to show the one selected and ( I would like to have alt bkg fill on the portal. This seems like a simple problem that has been solved before, so I apologize if this has been on the forum before. Thanks for any help or direction! I have three table occurrences in my file: PAT Patient (record of every patient, with a field patientID) HCP Provider (record for each provider available including specialty area with a field called providerID) HPT PatientProvider (one record for each provider assigned to a particular patient with patientID and provider ID assigned) In the main patient entry layout, I have a portal based on a relationship between PAT and HPT using patient ID as the relationship. I had an example file a few months back of a contact list where you were able to select a record from a portal and it would show up on the same layout. From what I remember it was built off a self-join table, but I can't remember how exactly it went together. Does anybody have an example of this? I believe the one I had was an example for not showing the extra buttons on the last portal row. Sorry, I've been searching for this solution for the past couple hours and can't seem to find it. jon

Hi. I'm having problems with the template 'Registration' (FM7) that I've adapted for my use. When I use the New Registration button to pull a name and then use the arrow to select an individual, it pulls the wrong person (the same wrong person, continually). I don't know why. I've tried duplicating the contact information and deleting the first, but now it just pulls another name, continually. What could be going wrong? Thanks for any help!

I was hoping for some help on a quoting solution I am working on. I am using Filemaker 8.0v3. In my database I have 2 tables I have linked which are Dealers and Quotes. In the Dealers table I have a number field called DealerNumber, its a number I assign to a dealer and then I have a field called DealerName. Hi All, I have a client using FMP 6.0v4 (WinXP pro)- They have database 1 (350 records) containing project numbers and project names i.e. [color:red]<> 2006-01 - <> New Office Building. That data is then pulled into database 2 via a value list sorted by [color:red]<>. My question is when there were only about 150 records in db1 they would get the value list in db2 then use the number pad on the right of their key board to go directly to the project number in the value list and select it. However, now they have to use the main keyboard number row to go directly to the project number. Why is that and can it be changed? Any info would be great…

This is an FMP 6x problem which needs addresing while we convert to 7/8. We have an invoice file which utilizes a line items portal. We had to increase the layout to its maximum size to accomodate large orders (300+ lines). When we print, the portal lines print over the footer and successive headers and footers. Cutting the layout back to 200 lines will clear this. This has happened in other layouts in other files which we chalked up to corruption, replaces with a new layout and all was fine. Any idea what is happening?

I am building a customer database for the salesperson at our company. I have 2 tables. The first contains all the customer contact information. The second contains contact notes. The contact notes table has 3 fields: customer name, note, and date/time note was created. I am currently trying to design the layout. I have a situation where I'd like to have a "Person" layout use a portal for display of possible multiple "locations" like a home address, vacation address, work address. I'd then ALSO like each "location" portal row to contain a display of possible multiple phone numbers (voice, fax, modem, etc.) that might be associated with each specific location. I've run into a situation with one of my applications that I can't find a way out of. FMP locks up solid when I tab off of the last field in a portal WHENEVER only one field in the portal row is editable AND there is no other field on the panel. The layout is a two-tab panel and each panel has a portal displaying specific rows of a table. I've recreated the behavior in the simple attached example. The first tab displays rows 1-3 and the second tab displays rows 4-6. Each panel has one other field displayed above the portal. Let's say I have a static value list that contains: Cat Dog Mousse Is it bad if I then change the order to be: Mousse Cat Dog I know that if you change the actual values (ie., took out mousse and put in bird) it won't update any fields that have the previous value (mousse). I know how to sort values in a value list- this is very straightforward. But how do I have FM sort the values inversely? I want to do this because I am populating the value list by the values of a related field with about 75 values and want to avoid having to scroll to the end, which is where the most recent and most sought records would live. I've been having this very annoying problem with IE, webviewer, drop down lists. I have a tabbed interface, one tab has a webviewer set to a site where I update a job, ie. set the schedule date, the second tab has a webviewer that connects to a site that displays the customer history, ie, date of install and repair dates. The issue arises when I load the first tab, update that site, then goto the second tab, and load that page. All of the drop down lists stop functioning. Meaning I can click on them and it just selects the field, the list does not drop down. This would happen until I restarted filemaker. Then for some odd reason, I happened to close out IE, wh…

Hey everyone- I'm trying to figure out this whole web parsing thing and playing around with a sample database for Pearl Jam lyrics. I've got a field up that I type the song name and my web viewer goes to this page "http://www.pearljam.com/flat/songs/songFeed" & Pearl Jam Lyrics::Song Name & ".js". It spits out an address like this: http://www.pearljam.com/flat/songs/songFeedAnimal.js When I go to the page in the web viewer or Safari, it just looks like normal text. wow I feel stupid but...here goes. I have created individual tables for each category of my job "recipe" (Project, Crew, Contacts, Wardrobe, Craft Service, etc.). Now I want to create a Print layout with the fields in each table laid out in some order. This form wil be used to capture the information we need, manually (pen on paper), then transfer to the database later. Good Morning all I need some help with a 4 table solution which will make up a Routing document on how to build a product. Background: table 1 is a header table. this contains information to the build (customer, parts involved, yadda yadda) and is identified by a serialized number. I have the "Allow action with web viewer content" checked in the web viewer setup dialog. When I click a link in the displayed web page, it goes there but I can't get BACK to the original web page displayed. I am using it to display vendor parts. Hella All I have built a portal page which filters my catalogue records and displays them in a portal. It effectively enables to look for items without doing a search. For example; if you choose a "datefrom" and a "dateto" and a "category" (all dropdown global values lists) the portal will only display those related records. The problem is that if someone filters the portal and wants to leave a blank value, the portal returns nothing. This is logical as no records have empty fields. I am very new to FMP, just a home-use type amateur and I could sure use some help here! I created a database to keep track of all documents I have in my computer and paper files. I am a genealogist, researching my family history. The DB has two tables: Ancestor Records has the main fields such as name, dob, etc, and an identifying field, ID#. ok i have a table. in this table there are completed and noncompleted jobs. noncompleted = 1 completed = 2 i made a self join relation from the "check" field that hold the values 1 or 2, to a calculated field "check_calc" that = 1. check = check_calc the portal is supposed to show all noncompleted jobs in a portal and not any completed ones. what happens is on records with the value of 1 the portal displays All records, and on records with the value of 2 the portal displays NO records. i want it to show all noncompleted records only not matter what record you are on.

I am having trouble getting a portal to display records that are related using a calculation. The Portal is in the Third_party_Payers Database. I am trying to get a list of all the patients who are on account with a particular provider (third_party) and owing using a calc of a line items scenario whereby the fee is taken from the paid producing a calculation that is “Owing” or “Paid” My portal stubbornly refuses to show just the “Owing” but rather all patients of that provider. Hi all, Is there a way to prevent users from creating new records by accessing the "records" menu? Currently all these operations are handled by the UI of the layout and there are some scripts that need to be run during new record creation (therefore the user should *not* add records from the menu). Hi all, I've been working with FMP 8.5 on the free trial, and am nearly finished creating a Guest List database for an upcoming tour I'm doing. The problem I have is getting the report to look the way I want. I want to get the number of tickets, guest passes, backstage passes etc... for each show listed per show, and per person. This works OK, but then I try to bring a related table in as each person that has tickets can have up to 10 guests which need to appear on the list. Hope this is the right forum and that I'm able to describe this properly. I have a question concerning making a dynamic value list. This is for a purchase order requisition system. I already have a table of "requestors" that also contains a field with the maximum dollar value that they're allowed to authorize. There are, of course, many more $0 authorization amounts than not. The "Name" field from that table is already a value list for "requestors". I'd like to somehow make another value list based on that table which would only include the "names" of people that have approval amounts over $0. Sure would appreciate a tip on the following: I'm producing an employee directory and want to have the range of last names (A-C, L-M, etc)displayed in the header in the following format: First letter of last name from the first record on the page, then a hyphen, then first letter of last name of the last record on the page. Hi, I'm fairly new to Filemaker and i'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to put this but, I am making a database where in a certain layout, I want to have fields and a portal to be shown/hidden or expanded/collapsed using a checkbox. So if the checkbox is checked, I would like for selected fields and a portal in the layout to be expanded/shown and if it is not, to be hidden/collapsed. I have two tables: Products and Photos. Each Product has a unique ProdID, and each related picture has a ProdID for its corresponding product. ProdID is, obviously, the match key. Here's the question: On a product page, I would like to show the first picture from the related Photos table in a small window. I am trying to create a report that has subheadings based on a particular field, that field only prints once--not for each record, but several different values can be on a page. Each record has several fields including FIELD1. I want a report that looks like: HEADER ---start body--- FIELD1=A Record with FIELD1=A Record with FIELD1=A . . . I need to create a value list that holds a name and an ID. The value list is to be attached to a drop down menu and I'd like only the names to show up in this drop down, but when selected I'd like the ID to be actual value that gets passed. I'm working with eBay store categories, so for example, category ID 5452 = Canon. I'd like the name Canon to show up in the list in Filemaker, but the ID 5452 to be passed as it's value. I'm having trouble figuring the frustratingly simple action of add new records into a portal (without adding records in the main table). A portal I created is designed to record sales contact histories for each client. I placed a "New" button inside the portal and at first it created new records in that portal just fine. While testing, I created 3 records inside it. Later I mistakenly deleted the "New" button, then realized I still needed it, I put it back inside the portal again. As before, its script created a new record. But now the new record is in the main table. Meanwhile I am stuck with just 3 history records inside my portal, even though the portal has 5…

I should probably know how to do this...but I'm a bit stumped right now. How do you get a particular related record based on a variable? In other words, I've got Companies related to Employees and their job titles. Now I want to produce a columnar report with all of the Companies running down one axis, and the jobs on the other...and the employees in the grid. This seems like it should be easy, no? Hey all, I'm back after a 2-year break from FMP. I'm now at a new job where we're using FMP7 for patient/subject scheduling and data. We also use a Google Calendar to keep track of our schedule. We'd like to integrate our Google Calendar and FMP7 database. I'm a noob at FMP8.5 (actually never used it, we won't upgrade unless this is possible), so my question is: can we use Web Viewer to not only view our calendar, but log in to our Google account and edit the calendar just as if it was in an ordinary browser? To all the parse geniuses! How is it possibe to pars e out a specific name if the previews link or the link after changes on a site? This seems unpossible to do! Here a example in html! For example each href has a different ending for the name in the database! The in between the name filemaker should take over! I have seen a db solution built in .Net that has a layout with search fields at the top and a portal of results at the bottom. Once a user enters search terms or selects from valid values, there is a "Get Records" button that perfoms a search and returns the results in a portal on the same screen. Is this possible in FM8? I have already created a screen that has the portal using a self-join and can be filtered with the value list fields, but is it possible to enter a search field where the user can enter a text string and have the results appear in the portal?

I have tried inserting a B&W logo onto a layout, both in tiff and jpeg form. They look nice on the screen, but print out fuzzy on the page. The tiff is crisper than the jpeg. The tiff is at 300 dpi and prints nicely from Photoshop. Is there a better resolution or file type I could use that Filemaker likes better for this purpose? I have had trouble finding information on this topic. Any help would be great. Thanks, KC

I noticed that the predefined viewers included FedEx tracking but not UPS (Brown). Here's the expression for a custom Web viewer to download the tracking status for UPS packages: "http://wwwapps.ups.com/etracking/tracking.cgi?" & "tracknum=" & PackageTracking::Tracking Number Substitute your file name for the character string and the field name that contains the tracking number for the character string. You can actually layer the two tracking systems using the tab control to create a tab for each of them and drop a web viewer on each tab, putting the tracker in the same layout.

I recently upgraded from v6 to v8 for several reasons, and I was hoping that sliding would be easier for me to handle in 8, but it is not to be. And I searched pretty thoroughly [though the search function in fmforums needs some help!] and could not find my problem.
