FileMaker Legacy fp3 and fp5

I have very old solution that I love and I don’t want to upgrade, but I need to see if anybody has access to old plug-ins and documentation for the plug-ins.

I bought Filemaker 4.0 Developer for my business over 23 years ago and spent many hours, weeks, months making multiple (18) databases and probably 3000+ scripts for order entry, invoicing, customer info, vendor info, inventory price/history/location/cost, purchase order, checking, profit/lost & sales tax reports, etc., because I hated quickbooks. I still alter/make scripts on a regular basis. I have records back to 2000 and can access anything with ease. We're now running one network host computer on XP with 5 clients running Win 7 pro 32bit, it works great. I have a client who converted an old solution (FM5) to FM13 recently. They have found that some Find script steps, that used embedded criteria, have the operator missing from the step. It may just be limited to ">" operators, too. (I haven't have a chance to look at the files yet, but a couple of printouts show this to be the case.) When Filemaker 5.5 Pro was released, I bought the update CD, which requires the user to either have FM 3 installed or to have the installation CD for FM 3. I've used it all these years, most recently with Windows XP Pro, and it has worked just fine. The databases I began with were long ago converted to FM Pro 5.5 databases. I am using a custom filemaker solution for medical office billing written with fp5 running on a mac with snow leopard. In addition, I have a patient management db (which I wrote) that is linked through pt. ID number to the billing program allowing transfer of some demographic information (name, DOB, etc). Other than being limited by hardware restrictions, the billing program serves our needs for now and upgrading to fp12 will take some time (and money). Suddenly, after several years of use, FMP 6 won't open. (this happened on two not-connected computers). I get an error message "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other disk not available. Insert FMP 6 disk" When I insert the original disk, it still doesn't work. When I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, it still doesn't work. I also notice that there is no filemaker pro.exe file in the Filemaker Pro 6 directory. Hello All! I have a hugh problem. Today it works fine on my XP SP3 but the day I have to change computer I have to change platform from XP to 7 or 8. I have a huge number of registers working together so its no option to migrate those to FP7 format or re-write for FP7 as it would take to long time. Today I work with Shubeck Pdf plug-in which combine several pdfs within my script and put out an email with the pdf as attachment. It works great with ghostscript version 8.5. Hello All, I have an old program that has FM3 runtimes that works fine on Windows XP. I tried to see if it would run on Windows 7 yet everytime i try to do that, nothing happens. I tried to have to program run in compatibility mode (Windows XP - SP3, WIndows XP - SP2) to no avail. Is there any limitation that anyone knows of with FM3 and WIndows 7 or is it something beyond filemaker? Please advise Thanks

Hello, I am a newbie here so will preface this post by saying that. I have a bunch of fm3 runtimes. I have imported them to FileMaker 9 Pro and it says it needs to convert them. That is fine. These runtimes have passwords on them. Once converted to an fm7 file and trying to open them up in FM 9, most options appear greyed out. By that I mean the Manage and Export features are greyed out under the File menu. All the view modes are greyed out as well. Its as if its password protected yet I cannot enter the password. Can someone help me figure out why this is? What have I done wrong? Thanks

Hi, I am having some trouble with a Mac .fp3 solution, which requires upgrade/conversion for a client to Windows and I am hoping the forum can help. Their solution is completely stable on all Mac OS versions which support OS9 - OS10.4, but as soon as I upgrade the .fp3 files to .fp5 using FMP5.5 it becomes unstable in all versions of Windows from 2000 to 7, even in compatibility mode where supported (not surprising really, but I have tested this!). Hi Anyone got the bug fix file FMP 5.3 updater on their hard disk? The ftp link on the Filemaker website is dead. I had a copy of the file on a hard disk but have lost it. I am now about 2 days in to my FMPro5 experience. They have no manuals/documentation and finding support for FMP5 online is hard, at best. I wanted to ask if anyone has a solution to start the Windows 2000 Service Components for FileMaker Pro 3.0 and Filemaker 3.0 Server. I downed the Filemaker FMServer to update a file and cannot get the FMServer to restart. When I checked the Windows 2000 Service Components, the Filemaker Service Component was not running in Windows 2000. When I tried to start it, I was given an "Error 5: Access Denied" message. I recently joined an organization that has Filemaker Pro 5. They needed a re-instalation of one of their 'licences' on a replacement computer and now, noone can use file maker in 'multi user mode'. I have absolutely zero knowledge of file maker other than the facat that it is a database application and the version in this office is waaay out of date. They have no money to upgrade so I have to deal with this. How do I fix this so that hey can open the same database concurently? What could I have done to stop this from working? Is there a way to determine what plugins an .fp5 file is using? I opened the file in FMP6 Developer and went to FileMaker Developer/Preferences/Application.../Plug-Ins I can see a list of the plugins but these are application-wide. I am new to my non-profit organization and upgrading from FMP 4 to FMP 11. The trial went fine, not a single problem. However, after installation and full conversion, no one can use their passwords to get in to the database. None of our passwords will work and we've tried every combination we can think of. I would like to go into the FMP4 file (we have not yet upgraded all the computers so we can still get into a copy of the file using the old software)and remove all passwords in the Access Privilieges. How do I do this? In the alternative, is there anything else I can try? Thank you!!!

We bought a POS app written on FMPro 6. The app is no longer supported by the developer. The app comes in one small *.fp5 and loads of *.cji files. I have two passwords for the app, normal user's and master password. But neither allows me to delete a record. I've used password crackers to retrieve 4 additional passwords, but still cannot manually delete a record. It seems to be needing developer's password. Is there a bypass to have direct access to the records for deletion?

I have a client with FMP 5 running dinosaur solution at the back of the custodians closet. They are reluctant to upgrade it for several reasons and have been running the upgrade proposal through committees for a year now. The problem is that now they want to give access to the solution via a web browser. In I.E, the db shows up fine but anything more complicated than a "go to layout" command attached to a button is ignored. In Firefox, none of the buttons work. Is there an any browser that will work with the old CDML code any more?

My FileMaker sales rep says that running databases via FileMaker Pro 6 (even if hosted on FileMaker Server) on modern operating systems subjects my database to corruption. We've got several Windows XP, one Windows 2000 workstations running FM 6 and on the Mac side, it's mostly 10.5, some 10.4 and one 10.3 (no Snow Leopard 10.6 yet). I'm new to FM Pro. I'm doing sql select from an application on a table using the FileMaker Pro odbc driver. I am able to get results if the set is small by using the where clause to minimize the result set. I want to get the entire table however. When I take out the where clause to get the table it appears that the odbc driver is timing out. I get the error message, 'An attempt to fetch forward has failed for table: xxxx'. I have FMP 3 installed on the same machine and everything works fine. The G5 has OSX 10.4.11 on it as that is the last operating system that will run the classic environment. The installer file for FMserver has a ".mbn" extension, that no application is associated with. Apple says all they can do is reinstall classic. Filemaker doesn't support any version 7 or older. I'm playing around with an emulator called sheep shaver, but I don't have very high hopes for it. Please tell me one of you guys knows what i'm doing wrong, I dread updating the whole database to a new version (yes, even though this one is 13 years old).

Does anyone know of a way to acquire a filemaker 6 install disk for mac? I have lost my only copy. I have two license keys, but Filemaker no longer supplies replacement media. I realize it may be slightly uncool to ask, however we have already purchased 10 licenses of FMP 10 and Server 10, and are in the process of converting. I need a little help. I'm a longtime user of FileMaker Pro 6.0 Back in the day I did some heavy programming with it, but now I only use the ToDo list and contacts dB. The trouble is, I have a new computer, and when trying to install the software it asked for an installation ID/number etc...which i have lost. Tech support suggests I buy the new product because they don't support 6.0 anymore. Anyone out there have the old software and an installation code I could "borrow?" Have been running FMP 6 through all the permutations of OSX, and we continue to do so on all our Macs in the office. But I had occasion to turn my iMac off and when I turned it back on FMP 6 would not run. Everything else does. FMP 6's screen appears, then goes away, and in a moment or two the notice of a crash appears. Have trashed preferences, verified disk, and repaired permissions to no avail. Hi: I'm running FileMaker 6.0 Unlimited. I have a pulldown menu when searching for user names in the database. When I search on the name "Noteboom S" it finds all the records for that user. When I search on "Noteboom N" it finds all the records for both "Noteboom S" and "Noteboom N". And now here's where it gets weird. I have two other users with the same last name ("Smith R" and "Smith T") and different first intitials, but their searchs work perfectly. And even weirder: If I change "Noteboom N" to "Noteboom L", it works. "Noteboom Na" works. . . just not "Noteboom N". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Tim

Hi: I have FileMaker 6 Unlimited running with Outlook Express and serving Web pages using CDML. FileMaker runs a script that sends email. Recently, and now about every 2 days, I get a dialog box from FileMaker asking me if I want to compact Outlook Express to save space on the hard drive. This hangs up FileMaker and keeps my clients from accessing their data (unless I'm sitting there watching the server). Even if I say "Yes" to compacting or "Cancel" the box keeps popping up. The process is based on a scan of products in a global fields formatted as text. The scan may contain numbers from 2 digits until 6 for example: 12 123 1234 12345 123456 After the scan is done i do a process which looks for the related parts in our inventory which thats already working good, after that it goes to the first part and checks on the global scanned how many times that part has been scanned, this is where the problem comes. I am trying to use an installation of Filemaker Pro 3.0v2 on my Windows XP box and am trying to update it to the highest version of FM3.0 available. I think the highest released version was 3.0v5. My company uses FileMaker 6 Pro for timesheets and as a database of active and inactive jobs we're working on. We currently use the FM6 client on both PC and Mac with the .fp5 databases stored and accessed on a Windows 2003 network server. Two questions: 1) Does v.6 have security levels? Currently anyone who starts up FM and connects to our timesheets database can add, delete, or alter timesheet records at will. This is obviously not an ideal situation. I'm looking for assistance opening old FMPro 1 files (I have four of them). If I understand correctly, these can be opened and saved in FMPro 2 (which I don't have); and then the FMPro 2 files opened and saved in FMPro 5 (which I do have). The files range from 400KB to 700KB in size.

I have just got a new imac 10.5 and have used migration assistant to move my files from my mini mac 10.4, all seemed to go well.I also have an old imac(tangerine 10.3) that i use as a backup. i have just tried to backup the work from my new imac to the others and the old imac works fine but the mini mac 10.4 doesnt understand the fmp files and they are only seen as blank textedit files.I am using fmp5.5 any ideas?

I am using version 4. This data management program has worked for my business for 18 years. I recently had a problem and ran the recovery routine to get the program to run. (i have had to do this before without a hitch) I was successful but have a sign in problem. I'm guessing the file "employees" was currupt and upon recovory login "username and password" info is gone. I work at a company that uses FileMaker Pro 5 with Office XP. They will be upgrading ot Office 2007 soon. Is FileMaker Pro 5 completely compatible with Office 2007? I read that some new version of FileMaker Pro, like 8.5 and 9, aren't compatible with office 2007 when it comes to importing. But there was no mention to FMPro 5. I am trying to install Filemake Pro 6 on my new PC that uses Windows XP as the OS. After following all of the installation steps--when I click the the filemaker icon to open the program an error message pops up saying that there is a problem with the executable file. How can I fix this?

We have a legacy solution (started in 1993). It is currently in FM6. In this solution we have several file with extensive repeating fields which were necessary to perform complex searches. Most of the data was entered via pre-OSX Macs. we are now only OSX Mac and PCs. The problem is that there are charcters in some of the fields which are not recognized by the PC (apostrophy). The field contains very long chemical names with many of these (known as primes in chemical speak.) This seems to be causing the file to crash on import or export. There were also corrupted layouts which we have eliminated. Eventually, we will convert these to related daughter records in FM8,…

I had a loptop come in with 5, 8.5, and 9 installsed on it the machine had fp5 files on it. 8.5 or 9 would not work so I uninstaled 9 and 8.5. My problem is, It converted all my fp5 files to adobe files. Why, and how do I get them back? I need to know if FileMaker 5.5 for Windows is capable of correctly displaying and printing words that contain certain diacritical marks, such these in the Polish language: ą ę k ó ł ć ś ź ń ż. I am sharing data with someone running the 7.0 Mac version of FileMaker, and I can’t seem to be able to correctly type/display these letters into my FileMaker database. I have a client with a large FileMaker Pro 5.5 database running on an iMac G3. They would like to up grade to a newer machine. My question is whether their DB will run on an Intel iMac with OS X 10.4.9 installed. Their DB works just fine on my iMac G4 (PPC) running OS X 10.4.9. I would consider an Intel iMac running 10.5 but from what I'm reading, OS X 10.5 does not currently work with any version of FileMaker. I understand that FileMaker is working to make 10.5 compatible with FileMaker 9.0 but they have not committed to earlier versions such as 5.5. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. John

Hi, I've been using FileMaker Pro 6 for many years. For some reason, it now takes more than a minute to open a file. It stops at "Loading done TCP/IP" (sorry, my client is in French and the original message is "Chargement effectué TCP/IP"). I tried to disable the TCP/IP option, but nothing changes. It rather stops at "Initialization"??? (Initialisation) I have the same files on another computer, and they open as fast as before. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the program, but the same issue occurs. Thanks in advance for your help! JS

We are running a five user version of Filemaker 5 (and that’s progress – until last year we were running a free version of Filemaker 2.1, from a magazine cover disc – ran on NetBios!). Anyway I’m having problems deciding the most efficient setup. The “ideal” computer is one that is running Windows XP Pro (a couple of the others are running Windows NT). We are running everything in our office on 8.5 with the exception of one database that is still stuck in 6. The server for that machine is not working. When I click on start server, it starts for a couple seconds and then stops. Any ideas?

Dear members, I'm in trouble with following: a user logs in with a Password on the Database to define his access rights (USER, TEAMLEADER, ADMIN) then he logs in with a user/pass combo in a password database so far so good now, depending on the kind of access he choose (for instance a teamleader can login as user) i want FileMaker Pro 6 to act arcondingly (for instance, a user sees his adresses, a teamleader sees the addresse of his team. what would be the most elegant solution to this trouble? best regards

Is there a way to have Filemaker 6 ask to save a record? I have been working in FM8, but have recently inherited a FM6 DB. I noticed that FM6 autosaves record changes to the DB. Can this problem be fixed without converting to FM8?

I have used the standard password protection but want to know if there is anything else I should/could consider? eg. passwords that expire or perhaps have the program look for a certain file to verify? I recently had a computer melt-down and Apple replaced my computer for me. I was using an iMac G5 and was running FileMaker in Classic mode. I had some bicycle riding mileage databases and home inventory databases that I was in the process of converting to Excel. Though I backed up most of my documents I never backed up what I had on my desktop. As I began reinstalling my apps I could not find my FileMaker disks (floppies). So my question: does anybody have 4.1 or know of a source for those? I'm only interested in converting these files for achival purposes. I use other programs for charting exercise data. Thanks. Ken

Hello, We're using an old version of FMP (4.1) and overnight we quite frequently (2 or 3 times a week) get the following message, which hangs the program until we deal with it the next day: "Sorry FileMaker is unable to update the disk this file is on. Click continue to try again or quit and copy this file to another disk." It further mentions a database that caused the error, and it isn't always the same database. If I click continue the program hangs and I need to kill it with Task Manager. If I select 'quit' the program ends quickly and I need to reopen. I have a database sitting on an old version of Filemaker 3. My computer crashed and now when trying to open the database it is saying I have a damaged file. I tried to use the recovery, but then I get a message saying .FP3 does not appear to be a Filemaker Pro 3.0 file. If this is a Filemaker 3.0 file, it must be recovered using the corresponding version of Filemaker. Just wondering what I can do next? Thx

I have used FM 6 Unlimited's Web Server Connector (WSC) successfully on a G4 Xserve for a few years to put a database online in a dynamic web page. I recently upgraded to an Intel Mac Xserve and found that I could not run WSC. When installed it breaks Apache and gives an error saying it cannot load the module. Can someone confirm that WSC is broken on Intel Macs before I waste time trying to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Occasionally we have to close our databases that our opened on Filemaker Unlimited in order to do maintenance on them and things of that nature. Now every time I reopen the databases I have to go back in and reset all the web companion options. None of the options under “Set up views” seem to remain after the database is closed and reopened. Is this normal behavior? If not what I am doing wrong? Btw, using Filemaker 5 Unlimited.

Ok, I know how do design and used databases. But I'm getting FM Pro 4.2 with a database only consisting of 1 table that is just a flat file. No relations, no normilization. Is that all FM is? I'm having to rewrite the system in place. It currently has 5 separate applications. I'm not sure if I can use 4.2 for what I want or if a newer version will work or I need to look at Access or even MySQL or whatever out there.
