Using Filemaker Pro 11 Adv: I'm trying to import three different XLS files, each having field names laid out in a different order.The file I'm importing to has all the fields contained in all three files. Importing the first file works fluidly, however when I go to import the second or third file, the source fileds and target fields do not match up auomatically and I must manually adjust for each import. Is there a solution that enables me to save and reuse different source field and target field arrangements for the 3 different file imports? I'm looking to have it be as simple as a script for - Import File 1, Import File 2, Import File 3. Or....is there…

I have read a similar post on here, however it doesn't solve the issue I'm having. I have a database that has mixed case and for this example, I have a "name" field containing my full name "ken wright" in lowercase. Next, I have a "rendered text" calculation field called "c_name" using this calculation: c_name = TextStyleAdd (name; Titlecase) Now, this does display correctly while in FileMaker. However two things to point out: 1.) If I copy & paste to a text editor (Coda), the data is still in lowercase, and 2.) if I export to CSV, the data is still lowercase. Hello Everyone, I need to run a script that executes an Applescript that, in turn, runs a Terminal command that isolates a value and then sets an FMP field accordingly. Up front, here are the limitations: 1. The solution needs to be a push button solution where it happens as part of a script that does a whole bunch of other stuff. Hi Guys, I seem to be having a little problem with 2 Filemaker databases. I have both fields setup in the separate databases called FSH. I have a text file that I need to import into a simple flat database. Fortunately due to the structure of the file, it's very easy to set up tsv for each of the fields. However, the last field will always have text with carriage returns. I do not want those carriage returns slipping to the next record. I tried as a test to convert all carriage returns into the bar character "|" prior to import and then I was hoping that I could convert all "|" into carriage returns by doing a find/replace with ^p, but all that did was to substitute the "^p" with the "|" character, so that didn't work. Can I cut and paste table from one Filemaker database to another? I found the following instructions but I don't see how to click on "copy" or "paste". Hello, I have some problems exporting from a calculated container in mac. I have a calculated container field, with have a path reference for the pdf. The path is calculated because the pdfs are uploaded from another program into the folders, so I have get the path from the program (stored in msql field). The pdf server is a Windows 2008. The calculated container field works fine. The path is correct, both in windows and mac. Problem: If I export the field from windows, everything goes ok, it exports the pdf. I run FM Pro 11 I have a container field in a small document management application. It can contain very different types of files like pdf, jpg, doc, xls, bmp, csv, avi, mov, etc.... I almost always keep a link to the file, not a copy of the file, in order to keep the database small. I have several spreadsheets that I'd like to import to FMP 12. Each spreadsheet is a list of documents. One column contains page numbers, and each page number is formatted as a hyperlink to a local file reference (on Windows), e.g. file:///C:UsersuserNamedocumentsfolderNamedocumentName. Clicking the link opens the related file, which resides in a subfolder relative to the directory the spreadsheet is in. When I import into FMP 12, all that's imported is the page number. Is it possible to have a script import the contents of a text file into a text field in a script? If this isn't directly possible, are there any neat tricks/hacks/plug ins, that effectively make it possible? (I don't want to create new records, I want to import corresponding data in text files into existing records. For example if field "A" is "Blue", I want to be able to have a script set text field "B" as the contents of C:/Blue.txt) I need this to be done to thousands of records. The basics : I have a script that runs every hour. After running it exports the records and saves them as an XML file through the use of a style sheet. The file is then uploaded to Amazon. To help with the issue of having multiple saved files build up in the drives folder the same file name is used each time overwriting the previous export. Hi, I would like to import records from cvs file, problem is I want to update matching records only but my record in cvs has another string appended to it which is unfortunately changing. Is it possible make calculation before record match? example: FM record is joseph and in cvs joseph_something I know I can edit cvs before I'll import to FM but this isn't what I want.

In using ESS to browse and report on data from an ESS (SQL server 2008R2) database, I'd always wished that varbinary (BLOB) columns could be mapped to containers in Filemaker. Alas, they do not, but I just discovered that an ODBC import shows these varbinary fields and when I import and map them to a local container field, the container gets a file with the name 'Untitled.dat' The SQL DB also has fields for BLOB filename and extension. So if I export the field contents and name the export appropriately, the resulting file is identical to what was inserted into the SQL server database from our LIMS software. I've got Filemaker to import a .csv file (a mailing list - via a FMS Scheduled script - it's downloaded first from a web server and then imported). I've set the import parameters to update existing and add any new which works fine. I now want to add a field that contains the creation date of the new record , so I thought it would be a simple case of adding a Date field to my table (auto enter Creation Date) ,So when a new record is created , it would automatically populate the date field, but this doesn't seem to work. How can i export the pictures that are taken and stored in the container field ?? I can export all my data fine but when i come to export pictures its a different story. I work for an international fellowship grant program and we keep records of our alumni (table 1), their US academic information, meaning degrees; universities; etc (table 2), their grant(s) information, meaning program year; grant type; academic area (table 3). Hello FMFileMaker, So here's my dilemma: I imported the data into my database. The following database has a STAMP Table with a list of stamps with primary keys. Each stamp in addition is given a FOREIGN key. This FOREIGN key is labeld as a _kf_Type (as in, the type that the stamp is categorized by ie: Type 1A, blue.. Type 2A red, etc...) In my TYPE Table, I manually entered the Type according to the Primiary Key. Hi. I've noticed this issue before, but now it's causing problems for me so I figured I'd ask. I'm exporting a single field as a text file from FM11. This file will be used as an .ics calendar file. When I copy/paste the text field into a blank text file, no problem-it's recognized by calendar apps as an ics. If I use the export field function the calendars app won't recognize it. I noticed that the exported file is double the size of the copy/paste file, however both files look the same when opened in a text editor. I opened them in a hex editor and found that Filemaker is exporting the field data with a hex 00/Ascii Nul between every character, hence the doubling in siz…

Hi guys I need to somehow export data, but add a 1 line gap between each grouped number. An example would be a purchase order number such as 11234 Line item 1 11234 Line Item 2 11234 Line item 3 11235 Line Item 1 11235 Line item 2 11236 Single Purchase 11238 Another Single purchase Etc etc. What is the easiest way to insert a blank row for export purposes only? Hi, I thought I posted this morning, but for some reason I must have clicked the wrong button. I am trying to create a new data row within my export in my .csv export. I have a layout with many fields in a ROW ( April, May, Jun ... Dec ... March ) Each month has five fields. The export records window allow me to drag fields name but not a new line break, hmmm . After performing a series of successful operation with Applescript and Text Wrangler I finally end up with a folder with several files UTF8 encoded on my Mac (Snow Leo 10.6.8) Trying to import this folder as text files (Text files only, no gremlins aka weird characters ) FMP12 keeps importing a folder whose content is not the same as the one I attempt to import. It returns the same number of files, however as if the last Applescript TextWrangler operations did not happen, example I delete various parts in the text files, and create "pointers" so I can extract fields to create my db automatically. Hi, I need some help, please. I made a stupid mistake. I built an export script to push a .cvs file to my desktop file folder "RoyaltyReports". And when I selected the file folder in the pop up window and then selected my .cvs file ( once ) I could see that the the "KIND" was "Comma - Separated Value" I had my Numbers Application opened and I could drag this file over the Number sheet and release the file over the Row/Column I wanted and the comma-separated data would fill in each column perfectly. In my student table I have auto-entered, serialized, unique IDs that link to other parts of the database. Howdy - new to FM and first post! When I import an Excel database into an existing join table, my portals do not work. I have found that everything works fine in two cases - 1. I manually replace all of the foreign key fields for each record, or 2. I delete all the imported records and manually enter each record. I've tried changing the cell format in Excel from text to number & visa versa, and all of my key fields are set as numbers in FM. Am I doing something wrong with the import? dear fmforums, i have a database with 600 products. each product has up to 6 images. is there a way to rename images that are stored in this database? when i uploaded the images they had different filenames. e.g. 1.jpg or IMG_4738.jpg i want them to have the product id (which is unique) as a filename. they should look like 22228784_1.jpg, 22228784_2.jpg, 22228784_3.jpg .... till 22228784_6.jpg is it possible to rename them? where are the images stored? how can i access them? raitis

Hello, I am exporting some LedgerLines to an excel document and then importing them into a table called InvoiceLines. A field for an extra charge does not seem to import properly. If the field has a value of ".15" it is imported as ".14999999". When the value of ".20" is inputed it is exporting/importing properly. I've worked around this by making it display as a percentage, and then restricting it to 2 decimal points. It displays properly, but my calculations are off (very slightly, but still inaccurate). I'd like to correct the root of this problem, but can't seem to figure it out. Can any one give me some suggestions. Thank you

I'm good with FM, but I'm fairly limited when it comes to things like PHP etc. I have made a scheduling solution for about 60 physicians. At the moment, requests and availability for each physician are input manually by myself. Usually transcribed from an email. Within FM I have a form setup with a calendar where I can select availability options for each physician. I want to role this out so that the physicians can select availability themselves. IWP works fine, but it is a bit quirky owing to the static pages. I have to make the process as easy as possible and I don't think IWP…

Good morning. I have a large filemaker file which works around a customer database. I wish to call a second database from my customer table but have the ability to transfer the customer name to the new database so that it selects the correct record. I have tried writing the customer name to a global variable and the opening the second database but the value in the variable is lost. Is there anyway in which this can be done. Cheers - Graham

Hi All We have a script in our system that generates a PDF which details records and their related details. Originally this PDF layout was contained within our globals table - it showed, via a relationship based on global fields, the record we want to look at (the version) plus the related lines in portals (the edits), however there was an issue with this... Sometimes the record we wanted to PDF had over 200 related edits and the portal option restricted us here to a fixed number of records. I would like to create records in a new, identical .fp7 file and import them to the existing file such that new records are created in the existing file. Hello, I've recently been tasked with pulling information out of filemaker for a data migration to another system, and thought ODBC was a natural fit, after working around some initial problems, I'm able to query my filemaker database reasonably well, with one large problem. Certain fields in filemaker have a datatype that doesn't seem to match the actual values present in the field, which in turn angers the ODBC driver when submitting a query. I am a T-Shirt printer and we have "films" that represent T-Shirt designs that I am trying to catalog in Filemaker. We are capturing the film name, the customer name and ideally, a photo of what the design looks like. I'm trying to be able to give the user the ability to click a button that would execute a script that allows the user to browse their local hard drive to locate the JPG image of the design, choose it like you would in any other windows program, and then have the image appear in the container field of the record that the user has open at the time. I know it's me... but can't find where I'm going wrong. I'm importing a couple of fields from Excel into FMP 11 Adv based on matching contract numbers... which I've done countless times with no issues. In summary, Find all files; File; Import Records; File Open; Update matching Records in found set; Match fields (=); Import this field; Import... For some reason the import is now failing, which I'm guessing is due to a problem with the match fields, but I don't know why there is a problem or how to fix it. I've found a few Perl regexes that do the job, so I can always use Applescript to do shell script and write a little perl program that splits all the 'fields' of the log onto separate lines for interpretation by FileMaker, but if anyone knows of a FileMaker native implementation of apache log parsing I'd love to know! I have modified a copy of a well working script for XML export. I have modified the fieldheaders in the xsl-file and changed the destination of the output file, but no further changes. I makes an error (see attachment). It states that the is an invalid character somewhere, but where do I find and correct it? In my database "catalogue.fp7" I have made a script (named "update to DCN") making the export of data to Excel. The file is called "update to DCN.xls". It will overwrite the existing file and is located in the same folder every time. There must be a new export every day at 07:00 hours at working days, the file must be attached to an email to "[email protected]" with subject line "Update from [company name]" and the mail must be posted immediately. If FileMaker is not open at that time the program must be started, run the script and close FileMaker when done. How do I do that?

Hi. I've set up a simple database for recording bird surveys. A screen capture of the "Relationships" display is attached below. Here's a description of the three tables: 1) BIRDS = a list of bird species known to be in this area; 2) SURVEY = a survey description; 3) RESULTS = a join table used to link the the BIRDS and SURVEY tables and record the birds seen on each survey. I am starting a inventory project that will be using barcodes. Up to this point, I've know barcodes to just be a special font to scan in via scanner, or print out via label printer. My question is what software do I need? I see there is some barcode plug-ins, but I am not sure how they actually help. I assume I need to get a barcode font (for UPC and one for the format of the label printer). I haven't purchased the hardwhere yet so I can not try everything out. Hello all: New to this forum and hoping to get some advice. I have a solution that has a bg image and some text that is input into the database. I want to render out a version of the image with the text to a file for each record of the db. I used to do this with a screen grab application and automated via applescript. Hi, I am having an issue with FM 9.0.3, where I'm able to export 5000 odd names and addresses into excel format, grabbing information from numerous fields (in one table I think). However, when opening the excel file, only one name, address and phone number is displayed, but repeated 5000 times ! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I've tried exporting into different formats (DIF, csv) but same result. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, that would be great! Thanks.

My company has an excel file (with about 1600 records, each with 30 fields) that they'd like to convert to a filemaker type database. The excel spreadsheet has a column where a filename/path is listed (e.g. /Users/name/work.pdf). Is there any way to turn these paths into container fields when I import the excel sheet into Filemaker Pro? I am running FM 12 by the way.

I have a runtime created, hundreds of users have it, since i upgraded to FM12 pro adv i now changed all my container fields to use external open storage, when i make a backup of my database either copy of current file or a self contained single file, i still cant import the data using my import script (worked very well in fm11) to import all the records, i always get different results... sometimes no records are imported, sometimes records are but no imaged get imported, results always vary. what is everyone doing to backup the database from a runtime and restoring the data properly? Hi, We are hosting some big FMP12 files on our server. I'm actually planning the transfer of the containers externally. I've tested the transfer on a dummy virtual machine. Will it make the transfer faster if I use multiple clients to transfer the data from multiple files? Each of which will have it's own files to transfer the data. Thanks

Someone posted what I'm looking to do, back in 2007...with no responses.....so, I'll ask also. I'm trying to import three different files with different fieds in each. Each requires information in them and therefore require different import orders for each. So if I run the script that runs the first import, everything works fine. If I run the second one, it breaks the preset sort order set in the script. If I go back and look at it, the sort order is all messed up. If I run the second and third sripts, the first one's order is then messed up, as well. Is tere a solutin that enables me to save and reuse different import order for different file imports?

Hey all, I was wondering is there way for me to sync 2 computers to the same database without using a network (internet or local) let me explain more: I have two computers one of them is set in the office and the other is my laptop (moving node), what I need is that both of them have Filemaker Pro 10 identical database without using the internet. Greetings Filemaker Gurus, I was wondering if anyone has setup a server side script that will look at a network location at a scheduled time... if a particular file exists (MyImport.xls) .. import it. (Always in the same format, always named the same thing). It would be nice if the script could validate the file is present before trying to import... and even better if it could delete the file after the script has run, so it isn't importing the same file over and over again if someone forgets to put the updated one in that location. I have used the file maker pro 11 advanced and develop the application. currently chage the appication into file maker pro advenced 12 and os is mac osx 10.6 version. In this, when I try to use "save as pdf" option the application wil be closed unexpectedly and pdf also not generated. I google it and found that, i. delete the below file and retry, [Your Home Folder]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/AdobeFnt08.lst But I didn't found any such file in that path. Every time I try to export a report into excel, I get either nothing at all or incorrect summary field values. How can I get it to just export what I see in the report to an excel sheet?

I'd like 2 fields I created (Timestamp, and User) To be updated when I add a pdf file to a certain container. What script do I use for this? I've been looking at the script trigger (On Object Modify) - Then run script insert current date and user. But this isn't really an accurate way of doing it because when you remove the pdf, instead of the timestamp and user changing to blank, it just updates the user and date. Any suggestions?

I am a Filemaker novice but have an issue that I really don't understand and is driving me crazy. I am almost certain I am being extremely dense somehow. I have a database of books (consisting of two files (one with the data and one with the interface which has the tables in). I have a script in the interface file that produces a found set of records and returns them into a list. This all seems to work correctly. Except when I come to export the list of the found set it then exports all the records in the database. Has anyone got any suggestions why it does this? Is driving me slowly mad. I am trying to build a FM database that will be accessible on the web, and will export a .prn (space delimited) file. Apparently there is an export plugin for IWP that will do this, but it isn't updated for FM12 and consequently is not supported by my FM web server. Is there a workaround for me to export .prn files from IWP? Do I need to switch to using php to do it? Thanks for any info!

I have to populate a single multi-table FileMaker database by migrating data from five wildly different legacy single-table FileMaker databases. Hello I have a fixed width text file I am importing into one field and then parsing, but the text file has " in it and they are being stripped out when I import. So since the " are stripped out, the fixed width is no longer fixed width and can vary since it is losing character spaces. Is there a way to import and keep the quotes so I can keep my fixed width? Have access to the filesystem but the FM runtime does not currently allow access to the records. They are done using the software and would like to move to another platform. I have added a field for each record containing the KML markup and a tab separated export creates a usable file. Of course the KML file requires a header and a footer. So far I have always created a new table with the first record being the header and the last record being the footer and my data imported via script in between - this works, but there must be a more elegant solution?? thanks

Hi, I have a parts database that has a notes field and I would like to append the data in that field with the data in my notes field in my import file. I am using the part number as a match field. The only thing I came up with creating a new notes field then doing the import and using a script to update the new notes field with the imported data.
