    Hello All! Ok, so I see that I'm not the only one attempting to use a 'Post' webpage. Specifically, what I would like to do is this: Goto a page, like https://www.econsumer.equifax.com/consumer/showmyequifax.ehtml?partner_cd=PPSS2 I would like some automated way to have data from the record pasted into the fields.     hello again everyone was great the last time i needed help so here we go. i have a portal based on a table tracing various district attorneys and the trial they handle. in some cases there are two da's on a single case(lead-assisting). this info is entered by a value list containing an ada_id and ada_lastname. the problem is if i search for the da whose name is in the second portal row(assisting ada) the search results only shows me the result of the first portal role(lead ada). any ideas on how to search on the various portal rows to get the desired result. thanks in advance

    I feel like I'm either clueless or having the worst luck. I have this task that should be simple--entering orders for more than one month's of services in one statement/invoice. Rather than using repetitions which are difficult to filter by (in my limited experience). I decided to make a related table using Order# and slap a portal in there. On the layout, I have the business contact information, an Order# and some basic order specifications. In the portal, I want to specify the month of each item and some other descriptors.   4. Hi Guys, Just as the subject states, what is the difference between the two (Title Footer and Footer). I want to print something at teh bottom of the page, so I would place this in the footer. However I dont want to print it on every page, so I guess I will have to use the trailing grand summary. Unfortunately the trailing grand summary doesn't print at the bottom, as I only have a couple of entries, it just prints after the last record. Noticed in the parts Title footer but to me just looks like another footer, so why have it?

  6. FMP had a great IDEA, but ruined it with a simple omission. The web viewer needs a URL, it can't display the content of a field that would contain HTML source code. That's reall disapointing, it would have open a new wealth of opportunities, like previewing data. Please make it in 8.5v2

My file setup consists of a server part and a part that users have locally on their own computer, as many times as they have projects. The local file uses the data that are kept on server.     Hi, I'm real new to this. I made a database from scratch that contains employee data and contains a portal to list employee training. I managed to figure out the tab thing in the body and have three tabs for three levels of training. The sheet is unfinished but I know how to do everything I want to do with one exception.     I'm doing a huge image database that I have to put on the web. There will be over 5,000 pictures and all pictures are about 3 megs each. Does anybody have a template that allows for people to search and label, while at the same time having small enough (size wise) thumbnails to make it run quickly over the web? Referring to the Relationships.png: I have a portal in the (blue) Product table that views the (green) Product_Surface join table. I have value lists created dynamically for the (grey) Finishes and (grey) Base_Material as well as a static surface treatment value list. Referring to the Choosing.png: The only way I've gotten it to work is that the ID's must be present and remain there. This looks ugly and will confuse my simple minded boss.     I've noticed that in databases I design, people often end up in the find mode and don't realise. Or they forget. So they perhaps click the find button get a bit confused by something and then forget they're searching. The difference between the browse layout and the find layout isn't great! I was thinking of changing the find layout - maybe a background colour to make sure people are aware of where they are. But I can't figure out how to do that. Any thoughts? Or other solutions?

  14. I have a contact database that has a separate table for phone numbers. This allows us to have multiple phone numbers for each contact. Each record in the phone table has a phone number field, a type (home, business, fax, etc.) field, and an ID key field. The question I have is in displaying the phone numbers in the Contact database. I can easily create a portal to the phone table and show all the related phone numbers for each contact. However, I would like a little different functionality, but I'm not sure if it is possible.     hi im trying to create a searchengine that searches a through some portalrows in my contacts table. it suppose to search the portal at the first contact, then go to the next contact, search that portal, next contact, search, and so on. when ever it hit the right value it suppose to stick it in another table. the problem is that i cant get it to find the first portalrow in my contacts table. i use the gotoportalrow[first] but i doesn´t seem to find it, it only highlights the contact_id, which happend to be the first field i have. the really funny thing is that if i manually highlight the portalrow (clicking on it) everything works fine... i cant stickt the button…

    I'm building a solution for a parts catalog. The records in the main data entry table are called PageSets, which are created on a layout called DataEntry. A portal on the DataEntry layout lists the Parts for the particular PageSet. It does this by way of a match table, LineItems. Related LineItems can be created in the DataEntry layout, within the portal. The key field for relating LineItems to PageSets is an auto-enter serial number in PageSets, PageSetID. Often, when adding a new PageSet, its parts list is very similar to that of an existing PageSet record.   18. I have photographs which show based on a relationship of two keywords (by using a relationship back to two global fields). The valuelist of first field is based on values on the keyword of the daughter table (building name). The value list for the second global field (the building storey) is created with a self joining relationship of the first keywords. Unfortunately the valuelist only works once the relationship has been resolved and have manually typed the correct second keyword. Hope that makes sense. Is there any way around this? Thanks

  19. The web viewer seems so modular, I can almost imagine it not interfering with the older fm8 functionality. Faced with the start of a large build for a new client, dare I dive in and recommend the untried 8.5 for this undertaking? I'd hate for them to go through the hassle of updating later after it has been put through it's paces, and FMI has released an update or two, or to miss out on the webviewer (which has no use in out CURRENT scheme.)

  21. Is there any way to have FileMaker 8.5 do this: Go to a web page with a form that uses the POST method, input data, and hit submit? I'm working on a USPS integration, and image data is sent back to FileMaker via XML that is Base64 encoded. I've written a perl script to decode the image and display it, which I can do by hand just fine by copy / pasting and clicking on submit, but I'd like to have filemaker do this for me.     Is it possible to merge together several related records? Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a many-to-many relationship between Authors and Books since a book can have one or more authors. In the books database we see a list of the associated authors via a portal. This is all well and fine for data entry screens. However, when doing reports we don't have room for a vertical list of authors, we need them to be listed horizonally. Typically we'll only list their last name.     I had a non-specific question - what is the most common layout size that developers use. I tend to use the FM default - 640x480, and it leaves me cramped for space. Since people have higher resolution monitors now, it is OK to move to 800x600 or even higher? How about full screen layouts? Will customers accept it? Most of my windows customers seem to want a full screen mode and mac customers like a small window. When developing for mixed OS use, I'm stuck in between. thanks indy

    I think this is a fairly simple question, but I can't find the answer to it anywhere, either in the manual nor in the 'Missing Manual' book. I need to make an Invoice-like layout, that summarizes a physician's appointments in a particular date range. So basically, I need the user to be able to select a patient, start date, and end date, and find matching records (there is a table which contains the appointments).     In my latest upgrade (FM8 Adv) users are complaining that some records in some layouts have anomalous spell check options. Instead of Replace at the top choice in the spell check window they get Next. I can't figure out why this is so, or what to do about it. Seems quite odd.     I hope i can explain this clearly. I have a parent TASK table. Two children tables, BUDGET and FUNDING, tied to TASK On the main layout I have portals for both children tables. A button script adds a new portal row in BUDGET. When i add a new portal record, I would also like to add a new FUNDING portal record and any data that is typed into BUDGET will get copied into FUNDING. I hope to allow the user to manipulate the data in FUNDING, without touching the fields in BUDGET. How would i accomplish this? Thank you!

    I am wondering if it is possbile to only show a specific value of a field inside a portal. For example, If I have a drop down value list where I can choose either birthday party, group event, or coporate, I only ever want my portal to show the values for the birthday parties.   38. Hi all, I've got a portal on my main layout which links to a "Notes" table, where the "Note" field for each record linked to my main layout's "Task" field is displayed. Some of the "Note" fields can contain a LOT of text, but when I browse my layout, it gets truncated to fit inside the field as drawn in the portal. In the PaymtDetails portal on Payment layout I have InvID set as drop down list based on a value list. The VL is built on a second TO of Invoices linked to Payment by custmer ID (gCustID in Paymt = CustID in Invoices2) to allow me to filter the VL by customer. It is working fine.     Hi, I'm having a really annoying issue with FM8 redrawing the screen multiple times. If I just click on the windows taskbar my FM8 screen will redraw itself sometimes 6 or 7 times ! I have now noticed that the redrawing is reduced and eventually eliminated by closing other applications. If nothing else is running, the redraws don't happen. But its impractical to have to close everything just to run FM. If I have another application in my active window, I can see my FM8 screen in the background busily redrawing itself over and over continuously.     I've been playing around with this new function a little and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to extract data from the web viewer window and put it into fields. For example, say I've got a table with about 50 records (or a lot more), each of which has a Fed Ex tracking number field. It's easy enough to have web viewer windows for each record to show the raw tracking data but I would like to be able to extract the pertinent data such as ship date, delivery date, signed for, etc., and automatically insert them into fields for clean reporting.     Hello My (grossly simplified) situation is this: I have two tables called Apples and Oranges. They are linked properly using one field. Apples is the main table with records from Oranges displayed in a portal. Apples can be locked to prevent editing or deletion via scripting and the access in the Accounts & Priviledges setup. When this occurs, there is a script that also enables the Oranges records in the portal that prevents them from being edited or deleted. So far so good. If you happen to be a member of Netflix, in order to manage your queue, you rank the movies you want to see in the order you'd like them sent to you. You get an ordered list of every film in your queue with an editable field pre-populated with its current numerical position in the list. For each specific record, there could be some with no values in the field and others with several. Then I'll want to sort and list the records for specific values.     I'v got a delimina that I need a little help! Right now I've a a field for called "plated_for" that is a pull down value list. Some times each record could have more then one item choosen in the "plated_for". When printing I would like for the field to show each item that was choosen seperated by a /. example. if "plated_for" has 525 and the 840 selected then it needs to show it as 840/525. can this me done or is there a better way to go about this!     Hi, I'm having a little problem with a conditional checkbox. Basically, I have 2 tables (Staff & JobRoles) and want to have a check box in the staff table which gets it values from the JobRoles table but conditional on a field in in the staff table that has the persons current qualification level. So, if a user selects say level 2 as the qualification level, the checkbox shows all level 1 and level 2 roles. The roles available would then increase as the person becomes more qualified.     Is there a way to make a button inactive if the user is viewing the database from a web browser as opposed to the FM application? I have a script that contains some functions that ARE web compatible, and some functions that are not web compatible within the script attached to a button. If a web user clicks the button, it runs part of the script (the part that IS web compatible) and ignores the non compatibile part, which then breaks the data in the database.

    I'll bet there is a simple answer to this that I am missing. How do you set a checkbox with a script? It's not working consistently for me with records viewed through a portal. I can uncheck by setting the box value to null. However, setting the value to 1 only works for one record. The checkbox is only there to indicate that a record has been related with another through a join table. I just need checkbox on and off.

    I would like to display a found set in a list-like format, using a portal on a Form View rather than using a List View. (I'm placing it on a tab layout which is in Form View.) I thought I could do it by creating a relationship between Contacts and Contacts_SelfJoined, and having the portal show records from Contacts_SelfJoined, but it only shows the current record, not the entire foundset. I think GTRR must play a role, since it allows me to specify "Show Only Related Records matching all records in current found set" but I can't figure out how to use it.     I am building a task management solution. The main screen contains a series of (one row) portals which display the most recent activity a worker has been engaged in. If the worker is currently engaged in that activity the portal is highlighted from behind with a yellow container field. This is pretty handy. At a glance you can see what everybody is up to and who's on board right now. I would like to be able to click onto a portal row and go to the related record for that row.     I have a LineItems table linked to Inventory table (ItemRefNbr=ItemRefNbr). In Inventory table I have a Status field (calc field) with the following formula: Case(not IsValid(LINEITEMS::ItemRefNbr);ItemRefNbr). The Status field shows ItemNbr only for Items not sold yet. When I try to create a value list on the Status field (to show unsold items only), FM won't let me. It keeps displaying the same message "This value list will not work because the field cannot be indexed". I need to create a VL that shows only unsold items. Thanks

    How do you get a portal on one layout to display the found set from another layout? My portal holds 5 records. I would like this portal to only display records which have the STATUS FIELD set to "active". Right now this portal shows the first five record from the other layout.     Hopefully I can explain what I'm trying to do clearly. The table I'm working with has records for each student. There is a portal in this layout that lists what number the student ranked each studio. It will always be ranked 1-9. So the portal just contains the field Rank and Studio. What I need to do is summarize a count of how many people ranked each studio 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, or 9. The other problem is that I want this at the end of a layout.   72. This is my first post, I've tried searching without much luck. I've created a "Part Database" that has all the different Capacitor and Resistor Values we have in stock. Anyways... for some reason everytime I open the file, it minimizes automatically. So whenever I open the file I have to maximize it, I made a maximize script to automate that. But I still see it minimize and then maximize automatically... that gets annoying. I've checked the File Options and all the scripts and stuff... I'm really stumped and getting somewhat frustrated.     Hi everyone. How would I go about setting all my layouts to always be maximized? Sometimes, clicking back and forth on buttons will resize the screen. I've tried the 'specify button' options, but then selecting multiple factors (such as the move/resize window and go to layout) will void the first option (i.e. I wished that these would be on a check on option rather than the highlight). Any ideas?

It is fine in browse mode and returns the right db entries, but when I switch to preview mode it only shows the entries in the trailing grand summary and the Sub summary when sorted by part is empty. when I take of the find criteria and have the script return all entries in the db it is fine though ?

    I'm doing a layout for a List view and I want the top edge of the Footer to seamlessly blend with the body rows. Right now there's a one-pixel-wide black horizontal line where they meet. I managed to accomplish this once, by placing wide rectangles on both the footer and the body and nudging them into some magic position. Today, nudge as I might, I can't find the sweet spot. I've never understood the rules by which FM renders layouts whose parts contain objects that partially extend beyond the boundaries of the part, but I think that is key to solving this problem. I have some drop down menu fields in a database, and when I go into edit mode from a "Instant Web Published" database, all the text in the drop down boxes look like they are too tall to fit in the box. Or that the box is too short to show the enitire height of the selected fonts text in that field. But when you are not in edit mode, they look fine. Is there a way to prevent this?

    In a table view, the current record is indicated by a narrow band at the left. Is there a simple way to arrange that the entire row be highlighted (as in Excel, when you click on the row number)? I know you can put a button over the row, and you get a highlight effect when you press the button, but that's not sufficient. I'd like that same visual effect, but automatically for the current record, without requiring any user action.

Hi: I hope I can explain what I want to do: I have a layout with records from Table A, I want to show found records from Table B (un-related)in a new window, but I want to continue to show the layout from Table A as well. From Table A I invoke a script that switches to Table B and preforms a find, if records are found I want to pop up a new layout with the found records.     I'm attempting to make a template table with certain "housekeeping" type fields including my primary key field which will always be a serial #. I would like this serial # to be done with a calculation so it will grab the first three letters of the LayoutName and then I want it to include a number starting with 1 but including six zeros before the 1.     Hi I've been working on a pretty large (well for me) database for a while now and the client has one final request, which has me stumped! I have two portals each containing a list. When I click on a row in portal 1 it appears in portal 2(All thanks to Reed : - Topic#174330 for those who would like to check out how to do this). What I now need to do is omit the item from portal 1 when it is transferred to portal 2 and visa-versa when it is removed from portal 2.     This may just be a short coming of filemaker's features, but I thought I'd ask. Is it possible to have a layout or part of a layout that will lengthen and shorten itself based on the amount of data in a field? Some records I use have 30 lines of text while others have only 5. It would be great if I didn't have to use space on the paper when I print for 30 lines of text even though every record doesn't use 30 lines. Any thoughts?

    Hello! So... I've got a product sheet that contains 8 sliding repeating fields (of maximum 10). As you can probably guess, this takes up multiple pages. I'm working on an inventory, invoicing, and customer database for an art studio. the invoice table uses a seperate line item table with a portal on the invoice layout. they only sell original artwork, so each record in the product table is unique and only has one in stock. I want to create a value list that contains all records in the Product(Art) table that are not sold.... whats the best way to do this???
