Hi! One of our servers just went down, claiming: Faulting application fmserver.exe, version 9.0.3.316, faulting module OmniORB4.dll, version 4.1.0.0, fault address 0x00035eba. I run, as you can see, fms9v3, on a win2003server. How is OmniORB used in FileMaker? From what I gather it is an open source implementation of a standard called: "Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA)" Wikipedia on CORBA Does anyone know? I'm looking forward to migrate our FMS 7 (with files created with FM 7)... to FMS 9. Question : is it okay to keep all the clients with FM 7 ? Question 2 : after using for a while FMS 9, if we decide to return to FMS 7 ... everything would be okay with the files ? Or does FMS 9 modify the files in a way ? Thanks.

I have a solution hosted by FMS 9 that users login to remotely and when they perform certain actions a script sends an email. Hello, Hope someone may be able to shed some light for me. I'm pretty new to Vista but I haven't been able to remotely access FM files using an OpenVPN connection since I got my new laptop. I've got a WAN Miniport connection to a different server which I can access remotely with FM, so it only seems to be the VPN that's the problem. Although OpenVPN is connecting fine, when I click on Favourite Hosts, there are no files available. I installed the same setup on an XP machine on our network and the files were accessible straight away. If I ping the server on the vista machine it tells me 'TTL expired in transit.' This would normally lead me to think the ISP …

We are in the midst of a network transition. During this time both servers and workstations are getting a second IP address. So now they have 10.10.x.x and 172.18.x.x. What I've noticed is that standalone license installations (like my FM8 Adv license) will produce a license error if I try to open a file from the server at 10.10 and then open a remote file at 172.18. The error says the license is in use and Filemaker will close. A pain, but I can work around it. What i am concerned about is my SLA licensees. If they open some databases from the server at 10.10 and some from 172.18, will they show as using two licenses. Not sure how I can tell... But is there …

I am going to propose a new Xserve purchase for our small business and I'm interested in a couple things... 1) How well does a single quad-core processor multi-task? Am I right in thinking that FMS 9 will share these cores with other processor-intensive applications nicely? 2) Our current Xserve (single G5, 1 GB RAM, FMS 8) seems to be using RAM a lot more than processor power, and from what I've read, FMS 9 will take and use whatever you give it on the server side. there is a database file i am trying to place on the server, and when i open the console and open the database it works fine, database status is listed as "normal" however the database does not appear in the "open remote" window with all the others. can add other databases, it is just this one particular file that the server seems to have a problem with. anything you can think of that might be causing this?

Hey folks, I'm installing FM9 server on a new machine, upgrading from a very old version, but starting with a fresh install, I've already converted my databases and all is well. But here is my problem, I've set up my machine the way I want it, added/subtracted apps, utilities etc, installed FM9, started the server, no problems. Now I run general maintenance (I'm running onyx, permissions/prebinding, nothing crazy) so I can make a clone and have a clean copy for restore if need be. After the onyx restart, the dock has reverted back to the original, the alias's for FM have disappeared, the system login name has been modified to include user at the end, etc etc. Does…

Hello, group, While any backup schedules pointing to the default folder work flawlessly, I am unable to get server to validate a path to a folder I create. Ex: [color:green]filemac:/FM9 Server HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/Sunday/ is not seen as valid. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to figure out a problem with our databases: We have all our computers automatically start and run a script which grabs files from the server. They all open the same database, but a message pops up that says, "Record is being modified by another user." This message only appears on maybe the second or third screens that open (we have them staggered for their autostart). You have the option to click "OK", then you can click through and everything seems to work alright. What can I do to make this message go away? There are NO portal rows on the page. fms 9.0.3 xp sp2 I have certain schedules that when disabled or deleted, appear to 'take' the applied change in the admin console, but when then reappear the next time the admin console is opened, or in the same session when the config panel is cycled through.. I'm a web/db developer (PHP/MySQL, ASP/SQL Server, etc.) that has gotten involved with a Filemaker solution. I'm trying to figure out what the best way to deploy layout changes to a solution hosted on a FM 5.5 server. Right now, I can think of three ways to do this: make the changes "live" while connected to the server take the file offline, copy it to my workstation, make the changes, then deploy it back to the server (and hope no-one needs it while I'm working on it) make the required changes on a backup copy locally on my workstation, then when ready to deploy, export the data from the old file on the server, replace it with the new file, then import the p…

Hello I am unable to deploy the php element of FMS9 for mac. The installation goes fine until the deployment where the deploying never stops. The config has a macmini with fms on it that is behind a linux server that is the master router for the web. I want the FMS to feed a php web site that is setup on the linux server. I have a Dell 2950 that is already setup correctly for SQL. OS on C: Logs on D: and Databases on E: (each is setup on their on independent Raid) Is it ok to have FM Server 9 installed on this same server? In a 3 server configuration do I need to send calls to the WPE IP Address or the FM Server IP address? right now we just have a 2 machine config. and filemaker.ourdomain.com points to our fm server. that's what i'm using for all of my PHP and XML API calls to FM. I'm guessing I'll just need to setup another subdomain that poitns to our WPE and start using that instead?? Any info would be great. Thanks!

Have anyone experienced this, when I reboot my machine it works fine to get in to the new javabased monitor for the server. But after a day when the server has been running and I try to start the monitor again it only sais: "checking for new version...." and dosent start. What can I do? I'm running FMS 9 Advanced on OS X Leopard. I have enabled IWP so that clients can log in to a personalized web page. On these pages, I want clients to be able to download previously generated .pdf files specific for each client. Is there any way to do this short of some plug-in or using PHP? In terms of privileges, it would be fine to use the admin privileges on the server to serve the file to the client. I have searched endlessly for this to no avail. Also, is there any way to put a static http:// link within an IWP layout that will properly function? Any help is appreciated. - John

I'm hoping to deploy a small invoice-writing application on an office LAN using a Filemaker's peer-to-peer sharing rather than a true server. The host computer will be largely dedicated to its role, running XP. There will be two or at most three guest computers accessing the host at any one time. Usage will be light. Hi, We seem to have a semi-frequent occurence with some of our clients that manifests itself a couple of different ways... 1. Clients connected with Pro 8.5v2 lose communication with the host. 2. If already logged in to FileMaker Server Admin, the connection is lost. 3. Trying to login to FileMaker Server Admin fails with "Service is not running, would you like to start it now?" Selecting Yes has no impact. Both the FileMaker Server 8 and the FileMaker Server 8 Helper are still running. Hello. I am using FileMaker Server 9.0v3 with Mac OS X v10.5.2. I am attempting to use the Database Upload Assistant within the Admin Console to transfer a database from a computer running FileMaker Server 8 to the 9.0v3 server. I am choosing to upload to the Default Folder, and to NOT open the database after the upload is complete. When I click the Next button to actually upload the database, an error appears that reads as follows. "Could not create the folder: /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/" Has anyone seen this before? If so, how does one work around it? Thanks for reading!

WE are in the middle of a FM9 re-write, but in the meantime have to keep the old FM6 system operational. Problem Details below: We have a FileMaker Server 5.5 installation on Windows Server 2003 SP1. The client base is a mix of Macs (OS X) and PC’s (XP). After 3-4 hours when between 25 and 30 users are logged on if any of the Macs log off they will not be able to log back on. I've enabled IWP from the Admin Console (on IIS) and can view the IWP home page fine from the server itself (at http://127.0.0.1/) However, I can't acces it externally from the web. The switch to Daylight Savings happened last night. Our FMS9A machine adjusted its clock, but scheduled backups are still occurring using old-time, that is, an hour later than expected. In other words, the backup that is supposed to occur while everyone is out to lunch actually happens when they return. I used Server Admin to go in to alter the schedules, but they appear to be set up correctly (they haven't changed) and Server Admin states the server time is as it should be with the DST shift. I bet this is something simple I'm missing, but it seems like a catch-22.

Hello, my system is made by: Win 2003 server (SBS) as Domain controller another Win 2003 server running only filemaker server 9 v3. Users authentication in filemaker server via Active Directory (LDAP). I have a several databases hosted on a dedicated web based server running FM Server Advanced. Most of these databases used to be part of a larger solution. I had effectively created a production manager for my cabinetshop with many related tables. Task management was linked to a client database which was linked to a contractor database, etc. Most of this worked pretty good on a local area network. I installed FMS9 on 12/4/07 on Windows 2003 Server. I've added the updates since then. Following FM instructions I checked Access and Usage Statistics Logging and set the log file size to 100 MB. It logged the 1st day, but hasn't logged anything since. I've checked for Oldlog files to no avail. Any ideas as to why the server would fail to run logs? Everything else runs as expected. Thanks.

All: We're looking into allowing our clients to upload their own files (and start & stop them) on our FileMaker Server; I know that a number of hosting companies allow this kind of thing, and I wondered if there was an off-the-shelf product that allowed this, or if we would have to roll our own. I read all the 5.5 topics and can't find my answer. We have clients who configure their FM Server to automatically start up when their OSX machine starts. The problem with this is that you can't stop it using Server Config (since it didn't start it, it doesn't know it's running). I can find LOTS of documentation on how to set it to START but these documents don't tell me how to STOP it without making a mess of things. You'd think FileMaker (whose how to set startup I have hanging next to my desk) would have added the how to stop it.

Hello, I have a database that is deployed with Filemaker Server and I want to actually go back in and add some global fields to a preference panel so that the user can change their address and logo and it will show through the solution. I can add the global fields when I'm working on the solution remotely but they just save as local globals and do not affect other users. My question: Do I have to go into the Filemaker Server/Data/Databases/ file unlock that file, open it directly, in order for my global fields to be considered original? Thanks!

I'm having a quirky problem with FM9: In one particular file: It's a file I use to print off barcoded labels, which are run incrementally in a series of 800. So we know which set was run last, we've made a message field that records the last number we printed, so we don't duplicate. On occasion (like with today's batch, I haven't printed these since 1-3-2008), everything functions correctly while I have the file open. When I close the file and re-open, all data from today is gone and it reverts back to 1-3-2008 for my message and numbers. Why wouldn't it be saving any of the new data I'm putting in?

Hello. Im using FM Server 9.0.2.151 on a windows 2003 machine and my clients are PCs on WinXPSP2 with Filemaker 8.5v1. On one of our databases when a client wants to type text into a simple textarea field (one with a small vertical scrolly bar) the typing is excruciatingly slow as in one character a second(!). You haveto type ahead and wait ages for the text to appear. In a normal text field beside it it is nice and fast. This is on a pentium 3 900Mhz with 512MB Ram thats not doing anything else (I checked the processes). FM Client cache I tried at 8 and 20MB no change. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Hi! I have created a script that runs fine when I run it from a Filemaker client. Now I want it to run directly from the Filemaker Server Advanced. The script reads from a table and goes to layouts that is based on MySQL tables. There it is suppose to do updates live to our MySQL database but when I add the script to the sceduler on my Filemaker Server and it runs it does nothing. Can this be done?

I'm serving an FM db on FM Server 9 on my local development machine (macbook pro) running the latest leopard and FM Server. A few weeks ago I got the file uploaded, and I got lasso to view it and all was well. Now lasso says it sees it, and seems to act like it sees it in the browser (though i'm having permission issues), and i'm able to open the file thru 'open remote', but the file is not showing up listed in the FM Server Admin console. It says "0 databases" on the databases page, though the opening page says its hosting 3 databases. why doesn't it show up on the console?

Problem: VPN users don't see any local hosts or databases when they Open Remote. Setup: MacMini running leopard is hosting a single database & it's connected to the network in the office. Hi, A client is VERY annoyed by the "This application was signed by Filemaker, Inc and authenticated by VeriSign, INC. Hi all, We are in a the process of setting up the Filemaker 9 server, and we have been able to login in using the fm_console account normally. However, in one of the console login setting, it allows member of the "fmsadmin" to login using the console also. This setting is enabled, and the account group was created on the local computer. None of the member in the "fmsadmin" group was able to log in. Did anybody have the same problem? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm hosting several databases with Server 7, all of which reside on my workstation. My problem is that when I go to "Open Remote File" in Filemaker Pro 8.5, they don't show under "Available Files" when I select the host. The host shows up fine, and the FM_Server_Sample shows up and opens fine, but the two files which I have in the same directory don't show up. They ARE listed under "Databases" > "Files" in Filemaker Server Admin. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

I have FileMaker Server 9 running on Leopard Server. I am trying to relocate my backup folder to an external drive. I know that, in order for it to be a valid address "fmsadmin" or "fmadin" has to be have read/write access to the directory I choose. This was easy to do in Tiger, but I'm not so sure how to do it in Leopard Server. Do I add "fmsadmin" as a user in the Workgroup Admin? Mark

Hi all I have noticed that my Admin console shows my master machine as localhost even when I load the admin console on another mac and look at the Master machine. If I go to the test page, it puts in localhost rather than the IP number of the machine .. the example images show an IP number, what am I doing wrong? Is there any reason why FM Server 8 should not see an external drive as a valid path for a scheduled backup? I was attempting to exit the Define Relationships pane (hit OK), when I had to force quit Filemaker 9 Advanced (not responding according to my Mac). As a result when I reconnected to my client's FM server, none of my hundreds of relationships are present. The tables, fields, and scripts seem to be intact, but there is NOT ONE relationship occurrence in the Relationships pane. Would the Recover feature restore them? What should I do? Not sure how often my remote client backups.

I have written a web form which is being sent to a FM Server 9 DB which is running via IWP. My question is: What is the best way to secure the data? I turned off Guest and then I needed a password to send the form. This is an option, but not my favourite, as some of the participants in the survey may be young. I then created a privilege set for Guest that allows them to read only. This setting means they don't need a password to POST, but they can still see the data. This is driving me crazy, and I can't figure it out or find info on it. It seems like in Server 8 there was a way to hide a database from showing up in the Open Remote list. You could still host the database, but it wasn't listed to users. How do I do it with 9?

Currently I only have a few people that need to access my FM8 database hosted on my powerbook. I find IWP to be very clunky and am tempted to buy my employees their own copies of FM so that they can have smooth seamless use of my DB. I'm curious if I am alone in thinking that IWP is not the best solution and wonder why I can't buy a $100 data entry client FM (Bento is less than $100 so why not develop software similar that can read FM DB's?). I was not aware, when I purchased FM, that runtime solutions have embedded DB's and cannot be "shared". I have a batch script with the command: copy /Y "C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker ServerDataBackups*.fp7" Q:Backups If I run the batch script while logged in as Admin by double clicking it all of my FileMaker databases in Backup on the local drive are copied to Backup on the mapped drive Q. I have a schedule programmed in FileMaker server to run this batch script at a set time. The admin console claims that the script is run without errors. When I check the backup folder it did none of the backups it was supposed to do. Why will the script run when I double click it but not when FileMaker Server tells it to? Thank you for your help.

Server: FileMaker Server 9 on Windows XP Client: FileMaker 9 on Windows XP I set up the Server as a single-machine deployment. I added my shiny new database, opened the database and status is listed as normal (Pro checked, everything else unchecked and clients 0). I disabled the firewall i n Windows XP as well (for testing). Hi all Filemaker Server Advanced 8 used to be so simple. Install the server, install the web companion and start serving. FMSA 9 is proving to be a nightmare, at least for me. I am trying to install it in a two machine config on Mac OS X. I originally wanted to set it up on two Mac OS X 10.4.10 Servers, but have had so many dramas with that. I've finally installed my first server version (9). The console opens fine on the server machine. However, not so on my workstation. When first going to the address through my browser it asked me to install Java. I did. Then I again went to the address of the server as instructed and the start page came up. I clicked on strarting the console, a Java starting splash screen came on, stayed on a minute then stopped and I'm back to my start page, not into the console. HELP!!! Mike

I recently updated 2 clients to FMS 9 and have now invested more time trying to get the things to work that I'm ready to convert them back to FMS8. 1. The first conversion (Winblows 2003) seemed to go well, everything go up and running all by itself and then I went to set up the schedules and I got one done and the rest would not run. and now it won't even start up the stupid admin console so I cant do anything at all. 2.. Hello everyone. This is not only my first post, but also my first real time using FileMaker or creating a database in general. With that said, please bear with me if I ask lots of questions to muddle through my current problem. I am currently the admin and hosting a database off of my Apple G5 using OSX 10.4. There are 4 or 5 other users that are accessing the database, all but 1 are on Apple's as well. Hi, I am currently using FM7 advanced server on OS X. I am having the following problem. The server is serving about 40 databases and was running perfectly for the last one year. But last week when I closed the console and tried logging into the server using the server admin FM7A. It asked me for password, though I am sure about the password it didnt accept it and never let me in. However it is running perfectly in the back ground and serving databases. Hi has anyone seen this? I have a Filemaker Server 9 on Machine A (OSX) and Apache/Lasso on Machine B (OSX) and its all working fine. Then all of a sudden, whilst I wasnt developing, any Lasso Query (like PHP) returns the Lasso Error "The data returned by Filemaker Server Advanced was not in the proper XML format." Looking at the logs of the FM Server didnt seem to reveal anything. If I execute the XML test query http://localhost/fmi/xml/FMPXMLRESULT.xml?-dbnames on the Machine A I get: 20602 and nothing more from the FM Server. Lasso on Machine B says all dbases are offline. Hi, I want to allow my users the ability to upload and activate their own databases (also to close and remove), but without giving them the full admin console. Is there a way to do this? I can share out a folder for them to upload the DB's to, but i then need to open the DB's myself. Only via the admin console do they seem to auto Open. Thanks.

Hey, As you can see from a few posts down, the last time i ran a standard Mac Software Update it crashed server, presumably because the new Java didn't work. Hi, I worked on my User Interface file offline, compressed and then uploaded. The new version now has no check mark under Pro. The other file (data) I edited does still show the check (and is set not be vis. remote). But the Database UI file is accessible as a user from a preset link as well as via Remote, and behaves normally. In this file, I had cleared an excess file reference, but I did as well to the other. The file is viewed by 8.5 users, and I edited in 8.5a. Server is still 9.02. I reviewed sharing, looks normal. What do you think - leave it be or ? (I tried uncompressed version, no dif) OK, after a while, a refresh made it appear. Hmmph.

Hi: First let me say that I have no access or input to the setup of Filemaker Server in our organistation. I just create the databases and our network person puts them on Filemaker Server. Recently we have moved to a new server. Our network person has Filemaker Server setup as a volume on one of those servers. So when a user logs on to the server ip address to mount a volume for another business purpose, they see and can mount the Filemaker Server as a volume on their desktop. Just as they can see any other volume. Note: They cannot open the databases this way. The network person sees no problem with this situation. Can someone let me know …

I am trying to determine whether I need to use FMP9 or FM Server 9. I have an FMP9 db file that is shared on a local fileserver amongst 4 or 5 people using OSX Leopard and Windows XP. The file is not shared thru FMP or FM Server--its just a straight file sitting on the fileserver. We're not using Open Remote. Just open. We do not have FMP on the fileserver. When we open the file simultaneously and edit the file, person A's changes don't immediately show up on Person B's side, or vice versa. we can both edit records, but only one of our sets of updates ultimately shows up later. I am having problems connecting to my FileMaker 9 Server via a mac client configured to use a proxy server. I have installed FMS9 and it is serving databases fine, I can log in to the admin console remotely using a PC via http://server-ip:16000 and running the console app. However, when I attempt to do the same from a mac with the same proxy settings, at the point where it would normally ask for user name and password I instead get the error: 'Admin Server Connection Error - The admin console cannot establish a connection to the admin server.' Hi Guys, Dont know if this isthe norm, however we're hosting approximately 120 files on a Windows 2003 (SAN amchine) with FileMaker Server 9. When we reboot the machine it takes approximately 40 minutes to open all the databases. Is this normal? The datafiles are approximately 800MB, although I dont have the systems specs (I'll get this from teh IT dept, I know they are Xeon processors). I do have access to FileMakers admin console to give you settings from this if you need them. Thanks Jalz

I have a similar problem to the post below me. I did the system update (Java, osx, etc. ) The admin console opens, and I can connect remotely to the database, however, it doesn't appear in the admin console. It always says connected users - 0 even though I am connected. I hope this doesn't require the complete system install that MACUsa had. Anyone got any ideas? LJ

Hi just downloaded the trial version in preparation for a real install later. 1) Server seems to upload the selected projects. Is it making a copy or referring back to the original 2) Does it matter if the original in located on the network or is it best on on the server machine. 3) Once a file is loaded it then is greyed out and cant remove it - wondering what is going on there. 4) will server take advantage of dual processors/cores as I would like to serve standard files from the new Xserve and host other services on the same machine. 5) are the backups incremental (ie keeps older backups or do they overwrite) thanks

Hi Fixed _ I found a server uninstall app in the user library>>caches. that seemed to work where as the option to uninstall in the "insaller" didnt for me. A reinstall and hopefully back to normal. ------------------------------------------------- I installed the server trial and seemed to be ok. Then my drive mysteriously "filled" up but after a restart went back to normal (93Gb available). After that I couldnt access the server admin (http://hostname:16000/) so I reinstalled the server trial. Now it is hanging at the prelaunch page. Any ideas appreciated. I have just taken the plunge and migrated a database that formerly resided on my hard drive to a FM Server here in my office. (I am somewhat experienced with FMPro but a total newbie with Server.) But sometimes I want to take a local copy of the database with me when I go somewhere without net access. I had thought that a "Save copy as" script would do the trick nicely but discovered that it doesn't work with remotely hosted files. (Annoyingly, FM's "Help" doesn't mention this limitation; it says that "Save copy as" isn't web-compatible but does not indicate that it's also not server-compatible.) What are the proper permissions for the actual file on the server? Unix style. I have some with: -rwxrwrwx and others with -rw-rw-rw- and one with -rw-rw-r-- I think the main difference is the executable bit (x). The other is in write priv. for "others on that last one". I have an xServe running Leopard. I installed the new Leopard-compatible v3 release of FileMaker Server and got up to the point where it tries to launch the admin console. Shortly after I hit "trust" to the security warning, a message pops up indicating: "The Database Server is not available. To edit server deployment, please start the Database Server first." when I view client connections in FM Server Admin I have a whole bunch of xdbc connections that never drop out. I've attached a screenshot for you to take a look at. We have about 20 employees here. All the rest of those 1000+ connections are from non-dropping xdbc connections that my web applications are connecting with. I've double checked all my scripts to ensure that I am closing the connection after opening it up. I even created a new WebApp user in FileMaker and I'm using that in 1 place only, ensuring to close it after done using it in the script, and it is also being left in there a bunch of times.
