Printing

Ok, this isn't necessary a server question, although it might be. We have FM Server 8 on a OSX Tiger Server. There is one single user whose prints come out wrong. It moves the entire page to the right by about 1/2" cutting off valuable data. Every other user in the house prints fine. It's just this particular user. I originally had her using FM8, but then tried FM9 (which is giving that frequent .dll crash mind you) but did not fix her problem. I don't think this is a server issue, since every other PC and Mac workstation print fine, but if someone can offer advice, or maybe the correct forum to post in, that would be awesome. Thanks!!

We're experiencing print issues (FMP crashes) on an intermittent basis. I thought it was solved by patching FMP to the most current version, however it's started again today. I noticed one other person in the forums with the exact same issue, but with FMP verion 7.0. We're running version 8.0. I've upgraded the printers firmware also. Any suggestions. This is getting very frustrating as we can't predict when this is going to happen or how to get around it. We've tried printing to other printers on the network and it happens to all network printers.

Hi FM 9 don't print normaly repetition fields with sliding ( see attach pictures ) if left fields are emtpy -> 1.jpg but if put something ir left fields -> 2.jpg all fields with 35 repetitions and sliding !

Hi All, I am struggling to figure this one out. I have created a summary of sales for each year. I have sorted them descending to show the customer with the highest sales to the lowest. What I am trying to do now is place a number next to the customer to know where that customer came for that year. Eg. 2008 1. ABC - $45,000 2. FGE - $43,000 3. DGH - $30,000 2007 1. FGE - $75,000 2. I have a report sorted by one sub-summary field (e.g. "state"). I sort by the sub-summary field, go to preview, and it looks fine (state with cities in state listed below). I print, and the sub-summary line is missing (just cities showing). None of the fields are over-lapping sections. What the heck is going on? Thanks for your help!

I have a listing of invoices for the day with summarys for the day at bottom of report. How can i include summarys of fields for all records for the current month. example: i have summary of sales for the day. I would like to include summary for Sales for the month todate.

ok, this one has me stumped. i have a layout that i do a weekly print on. basically, i have 3 fields in the footer of the layout that prints. there is: 1 - Dollar Amount 2 - Minus Amount On Hand 3 - Sum of the first two so, in browse mode, everything is fine. it shows the amounts and equations correctly. but when i go to print it (no matter if i take it into preview mode to print or leave it in browse mode), it does not print #2, therefore the equation is wrong. i don't understand why it won't print. any ideas?

Printing problem with 3.5” X 9.5” Pin Fed form I have a printing problem in a FMPro (version 3.0.x). The database that prints fine in Windows 98 and does NOT print correctly in Windows XP Pro because I cannot select the correct paper size. We are printing to an Okidata ML380 dot matrix printer using pin fed, 3-part, preprinted, carbonless forms that are 3.5” H X 9.5” W overall dimensions. What I have noticed as the big difference between my Win98 and the WinXP systems is this... I have a script set-up to print reference labels. When I do the search and print it will only print out 1/2 of the labels it is supposed to - the last 1/2 are printed out as blank sheets. This happened with some letters that we wanted to print for a small mailing about a month ago as well, and I never found out what the problem was. Has anyone run into this?

When I print a barcode to our "Dymo LabeWriter Twin Turbo" using FileMaker the barcode can not be read. It seems that the print quality isn't good enough. When I print the same barcode with the Dymo software it can be read. I notice that in FM the barcode is printed really fast but from the Dymo software it comes out slower. In Mac OS 10.5 with the latest Dymo software installed I have no option to change the print quality in FileMaker. When I look at the "summary" in the print setup is does say print quality is "text only" but i see no where to change this. Any suggestion or tips?

Through windows I can print to Zebra 2844 just fine. However, I'm looking for a Mac OS X (10.4 and 5) label printers with similar features to the Zebra. I am working on an invoice much like the one in the sales invoice in bps_Sales_Orders. Like a previous poster, my invoice only prints out the first Line Item, despite displaying more onscreen. I am using a script and have tried every "Show only related records" option (including off), but it has made no difference to what gets printed, though what gets displayed onscreen does change. One oddity of note: the script thinks it's on a web connection (it isn't). When I run the same script step, same computer, on bps_Sales_Orders, it does not have this problem. My preview of an invoice shows all the line-items. When I print an invoice, only the first line-item is printed instead of all the line-items as shown in the preview. So my previews show correct, but my printouts show only the first line of the line-items. Can anybody help me? Isabelle

I converted our databases from FM 4 to 9 recently, but have noticed a problem with the scripts. I've modified the print options and even print setup within any script, then exit the script and return, my changes are gone. Regardless if I use a dialog window or not, it will print to whatever the last setting was in the computer's printer settings rather than what the database script is calling for. Ex: If I print something outside of filemaker on a letter sized paper, then return to filemaker to print an envelope, the envelope prints on letter sized paper rather than what the script is telling it to: which is #10 envelope. Hi there, I'm having an issue whereby users (who were just upgraded to Windows XP from 2000) switch to a network printer within Filemaker's print setup, but then when they print, Filemaker goes ahead and prints to their computer's default printer. They are able to print to the network printers in other applications.. Any idea what is going on I was using a Print Setup script step, and tried it with and without Restoring the settings at the script step level.

Hi all, Has anyone ever been able to print multi-line invoices with description fields that slide up to account for extra long descriptions and have vertical column lines? I also want a footer on each page and have the vertical column lines extend all the way to the footer. I can't seem to make this work in Filemaker. I'm trying to mimic the QuickBooks Invoice if you are familiar with that. Ideally portal rows and the fields in them would slide but I know they don't. Thanks in advance for any advice. Hi, I've run into a situation where FM will crash when trying to print a report that has linked pdfs in a container field. The pdfs are linked straight into the container field and they vary in size from a 200k to 1.5mg. I've narrowed it down to the pdfs because it will print fine with other items like jpgs in the field. As FM rip/sends the report to the printer it'll get a few pages in and then crash. I tried removing the files that it crashed on, but then it got just a few more pages in and crashed again. Has anyone had problems with pdfs in the past or have any tips about file size, etc.... Thanks! -Wing

I have a simple db with three tables: Clients, Janitors, and Accounts. Accounts is a join table. I have a problem in a report. The report is based in the child table (Accounts). I want to organize the report by a calculation field in the Janitors table, so the first break field is from the Janitor table. It counts the status of the Janitor's Insurance standing (Current, Expired, or Upcoming). Underneath that heading I have the Janitor in another sub-summary part and then their clients in the body part. Greetings all! I've looked (really) but I have not found anything close to a sollution yet. I must be missing something. I have 2 related tables(Customers and Equipment) where each customer can have more than one piece of equipment (the amount varies for each customer). I need a report that prints out the equiment information, one per page, with the customer information on every page and a Job Number (auto generated, but same for each page) on every page. If I understand it correctly there is no option in FM to print records with "shrink to fit" other then redesigning the layouts and making them small so that they will fit onto a page. The same applies to save as PDF - it will cut the layout at page limit. If there is a way to print so that the record will be automatically made smaller please point me in the direction of how would I accomplish that. Thank you.

Hi, I have some Windows clients running FM 8.5 v2. I just set up a DYMO label printer on our network using a print server. It is accessible via Word, Dymo's included label application, and FileMaker. The Dymo software & drivers have been installed on four workstations, for the time being. The problem is - FileMaker will not hold Print Setup settings for this device. Not only within scripts - but also if I simply to go File > Print Setup, configure the Dymo's settings, and hit OK... even if I simply go back into Print Setup - settings are reverted back to the machine's default printer and settings. We recently purchased a Lexmark 2580 printer to do our Purchase Orders using Filemaker Pro 6. We can see the font on the computer correctly but when we print to the printer the font of the PO is too large. We have tried different Drivers such as the Epson FX80, FX100, FX850 and the FX1050. With our prior Lexmark printer Model 2380 we were able to find a compatible Epson driver that would bring the font down to the correct size on the printer. But with this new printer we are unable to get the font to print small enough. Please help us... we are out of ideals on this side. Sylvia :

I would like to make a layout for printing tent cards (avery 5309), but when going through the 'label wizard' in FMP, this particular number doesn't show. Is there a way to add templates to FMP? Hello I was wondering how to print all the layouts at once for several records. I want them to print in groups so I don't have to sort the papers later.

I have a layout where I set up a light gray background for the body. I then, in the part definition, check the alternate background and choose a different shade of gray AND the fill pattern = (description) two squares - white square behind, black square in front. And the preview shows the entire body as light gray. The alternate background isn't even being acknowledged. What can I look at?

I have a layout that slides text as it should, however I added a series of 8 images along the right side vertically. There are 4 on the first page and 4 on the second page. Before adding the image, the text would slide up and if it only took the 1st page, that is all that would be printed. Now I have the column of 8 images (set to slide) but it does not slide. If a record only has 3 images, it still prints two pages - the second page being blank. I tried a test of setting an image for image1 and image 3 leaving image 2 blank, and it did not slide image 3 up under image 2... it left a blank spot space for image 2. How can I slide up images?

I would like to give user an option when printing. Script takes user to preview mode on report, at this time script is on pause. I have set Allow User to Abort to [On], so user can Continue or Cancel. If user choses “Continue” I would like script to move forward to Printing. I cannot print Preview or PDF from within 8.5A. When I click the Preview button, the Print button flashes and does nothing - same with PDF pull-down. It works fine from all other versions of FM that I have in my Mac, as well as other apps. I have deleted the 8.5_plist and prefs files, restarted, re-installed 8.5A and applied the v2 updater in trying to find the cause of this. I have a plant database and am trying to print a plant catalog of the plants that are on my invoice. I press a button and it prints the plant catalog. I am not understanding why it is that when running a report one becomes stuck in Preview mode, unable to make buttons work. If I want to have a statusbar-free UI, it seems that this means that users become stuck in Preview mode. I can put buttons for 'print as pdf' but they won't operate in preview mode. and if I do change to browse mode, the report becomes incomplete (record by record). Surely I'm missing something very simple...since that's what collecting all this data is all about, right?

Is it possible to have different Page Setup options for multiple layouts? I have reports I would like to print portrait as well as landscape. But can not do both without going in and changing the settings each time I print a report. I use both types throughout the day and setting page every time is not practical. I have a Table with a list of Equipment Items. The equipment field also has 3 possible Vendors Fields (Vendor1, Vendor2, Vendor3) that this equipment may be purchased from. Some equipment may have only 1 vendor inputted and some may have 2 or 3 etc. I have designed a Request for Quotation template to be sent to each individual Vendor for a quotation. Hello all, I've created a rounded-box look which works very nicely for outputting each record [page per record, A5 landscape] and I want to continue this theme into a summary page from an alternate table. My first attempt hasn't quite worked however... What I want to achieve is a rounded-rectangle border which spans the printed page, and I presumed that the way to achieve this would be to create a non-continuous frame in the header; turn it the other way up in the footer and have the whole thing joined up by the edges within the body. With layouts designed for printing, I have persistent problem with printouts using Page symbol, where the Page symbol gets the value zero for the first page. In Preview Mode, the same page properly shows 1 for the first page. It's only on the printout that the page number is wrong. What can I do to fix this? Or is it a bug? (I'm using 9.0v3 Advanced.)

How does one scritp a button to do a report on a single record. If I am browsing the records of 20 records, and want to print only the one I am looking at, how do I make it do a print preview of that report without showing/printing all reports?

Hi All, We have a FileMaker server serving many databases to multiple users. One user wanted to print all invoices (around 233 sheets every month) from her usual kodak printer to HP LaserJet 4250 printer. The user is running FileMaker Pro 6 on Windows XP Pro. Till now, she was able to print all the invoices to the kodak printer without any problem. Also, other users have been able to print the same set of invoices to the HP LaserJet 4250 printer without any problems. The driver installed for HP Laserjet 4250 is PLC6. So I went ahead and changed the print settings in FileMaker Pro for these accounting files to HP Laserjet 4250 and also set the HP LasetJet prin…

Has anyone found a good workaround for the Print[restore] function where it "remembers" the last print settings. My two most used layouts are opposite one prints layout and one prints landscape. It is a pain for me to have to always click "properties" and switch the way it prints and most of my users have no clue how to do this anyway

I am trying to get a runtime solution to print a report. Everything else seems to work okay in the runtime version, except no printing. The scripts for printing works just fine on the regular version. Is there something about printing and runtime versions that I'm not aware of? Thanks for your help!

Hi everybody... I`m new here and this is my first post. My english is very poor, so if there`s a lot of mistakes, I`m sorry. I made a Sales Order DB and I`m having troubles to print the final result, Total Field only at the last page. If I put that field at the Footer, it prints all pages... at the Title Footer, it prints only at the first page. Other thing, is if the Sales Order is small, for example, one item only, I don`t want the print finish at the head or middle of the page... I want it to finish at the bottom of the page. I`ll apreciate any help.

Would really appreciate some direction on this issue I'm faced with.... Trying to produce one report (customer price list) which has two main product categories. These two main categories have different pricing calculation fields, and I'm having difficulty figuring out how I create one report/price list that reflects the related pricing field. I have a 6 page report that uses sliding to shrink the last three pages from the layout onto two. The information on page 5 and 6 varies in length from record to record. I need to find a way to insert a page break after the information that will be printed on page 5 so that no matter how little there is FM will use a new page to print page 6. I tried putting page six into a Trailing Grand Summary with FM putting a page break before each one. The problem is that only the last record has the sixth page printed. Hello, I'm the de facto FileMaker guy at my company. My supervisor expects me to fix a problem he's having with FM. He has a little laser printer connected locally to his machine via USB. When he opens an FM file from the server, he can print just fine. However, as soon as he opens one of the files on his local system, FM (or the printer) will only kick out blank pages. I've already checked the size of layout parts, updated the printer to the latest drivers, etc. I have no idea why only blank pages come out of the printer. I have an odd one... My "title footer" started disappearing when in Preview mode or printing.. I've tried/tested the following... 1. Delete the title footer and recreate it. 2. Checked the fonts etc... Even removed the current text & font etc... Added a test text string in another font 3. Checked "Set Sliding/ Printing..." Good... 4. Checked - No Conditional formating.... Has anyone else seen anything like this? sure seems like a bug! If I change from "Title Footer" to "Footer" things appear and print... A good head scratcher... Thanks Dave

I've developed a runtime app with FM Pro 8.5 Advanced that I hope to sell to a targeted industry. I developed it on a Mac and all works fine. But when I tried it on a PC with Windows XP some fields don't print where they are supposed to in a text layout. In both browse and preview mode these fields appear where they are supposed to, but when I print to document they appear several character spaces away or even on the wrong lines. Is there a simple fix to this that I'm missing??

Ok, if I have a number of text fields in the report some that are quite large and some smaller, and I want to have the report "automatically" resize the field to accomodate the different texts inserted IE: field one has 225 characters in it for report on John Doe, however has only 50 characters in the same field for Jane Doe and I want to have the field resize to accomodate the difference with out having a lot of blank space, what do I need to do?

I recall hearing problems on some FileMaker list a while back about the driver for this printer (or series), but I just ran into some trouble myself now that I'm at OS X 10.5. I just downloaded the beta installer DSL 7.7.1 (v. 3.2?) and set up the printer. I have a layout in FileMaker to print file folder labels. When I print now, the top of the text is printed just below the bottom of the label (on the leftover part of the label on the right side as it comes out of the printer -- when I use the DYMO label program, the text comes out with the first letter at the vertical top (the opposite of how my layout works)). I am in the construction industry & use FM for estimating & managing all of our projects. I'm interested in being able to draw lines in browse mode on top of an image (Blueprints). Lines need to start & stop in random locations so using a graph does not meet my needs. I need to prepare reports for political candidates similar to the attached sample. Contributions, expenses, loans, etc., meeting certain criteria need to be itemized for each reporting period. While I don't have any problem locating the records to report, they reside in different tables (and are located by separate queries on those tables) but need to appear together in the body of the report. Hi, I have a strange problem. I have a script whose end result it is to print a report. It is working fine in the developer computer. The solution is deployed in a Windows 2003/Windows XP TCP/IP network. However, in client computers where the default printer is different from the default printer in the developer computer, the script runs fine until it reaches the point where the user press the OK button to print (printer selection dialog, Print step in the script). By default, it appears that when one of my clients tries to print from the File menu (or hit Ctrl+P), the "Print to File" checkbox is checked. If they uncheck it, and continue with the printing, then the next time they go to print, that box remains unchecked. However, if the user logs out, then logs back in and tries to print, the checkbox will be checked again. This default seems to be file-specific because it's only this one filemaker file that seems to have that default (I tried other filemaker applications i've made, and they default to unchecked). This is so embarrasingly dumb that I feel bad for even asking.. I have a report with multiple entries like a log. When i go to print it out, it only prints the very first record.. how can I make i print them all out! I'm sure it's a simple setting but i cant remember what it was.... V

Going back I talked a friend of mine into using Filemaker instead of Excel for their database/accounts needs, which worked out really well up to now. But they have a catalogue printing from Excel, A4 size by default, to an A5 booklet using the print driver that comes with their RICOH printer/copier on Win XP SP2.. There is a setting in the print settings to create a booklet, all very simple. But I can't get it to do the same in Filemaker 7. The best I can get it to do in Filemaker is to print A4 double sided (I have the latest driver). SO... Is there a way to do this?? OR… Can I just lay it out as A5 and print a booklet another way?? I'm trying to design a report that will print in A5 as a booklet meaning when the first A4 page comes out of the printer it will have page 1 on the right hand side of landscape, when page 2 comes out the printer it will have page 2 on the left and the last page on the right etc. Can anyone help please?

Has anyone else had trouble when printing to this printer? It's an intermittent, though frequent, FileMaker crash. Either through a Print scrip, or through the regular Print dialogue box, the user is always shut out of FileMaker when trying to print. The printer is a Lexmark T630. I've tried a different printer driver, and the problem seems less frequent (though, hard to say). I was just wondering if there is some kind of known problem, or how I should proceed to fix this problem? Thanks!

Trying to print out a category list... I have a database called "orders" that has 45,000 records in it. They are going to be found by account number, so there may be 20 records. I want to create a printout of each category and sub records... Kinda like: Category - Part #1 - Part #2 - Part #3 Category 2 Ect. How do I accomplish this? my form only has one line! Is there an online tutorial on reporting?

I'm trying to print labels which are about 0.95cm (3/8 of an inch) high. FM won't let me set the body height at 0.95. I can get either 0.952 or 0.917. FM seems to restrict the sizes to pixel dimensions. Those dimensions correspond to 27 and 26 pixels respectively. Problem is, the first setting results in row creep down and the second setting results in row creep up. I've tried dragging the body size and also setting it numerically with no luck. Any suggestions? ...Mike

I have a record that has 10 pages with 2 portals on each page (for pictures) however I dont always use all 10 pages, so my question is: is there a way I can script or setup to print only the pages that have pictures in the portals & not print all 10 pages? I set up print options every time I print from print options, but sometimes forget to check how many pages actually have photo's on them, and in such cases I get for example 2 pages of pictures & 8 pages of blank portals. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but it's hard enough to describe this issue, let alone search the forum for it. On Macs it's possible, when printing, to easily make a PDF out of any document by hitting the 'Preview' button. This fires up the Mac OS X Preview application, which shows how the document would print, as a PDF. You can hit 'print', but you can also save this PDF. Where does FM store the default file name for that PDF? And how can I change it? It's not the database file name, nor the current window title. In my case this becomes a problem as it's showing something like 'database first test' which is what the file and its then only table…

I have a database with company, branch tables. These are related as one to many relationship. CompanyReport layout has a branch portal, with 'set sliding/printing' option on. Portal row number is set to six. If company has two or three branch records, in preview mode, it displays minus one record and also portal is not formatted properly. Attached is the sample file. Same file shows proper results in Fm 8.5. It behaves differently in FM 8.5 and 9 advanced version. Why is it so? Please guide. Thanks in advance. CompanyReport.zip

Hello all, Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. The FM 8.5 database installed in my secretary's computer will only "print to file". Why this happened is beyond me, but I haven't been able to find out how to turn this off and get the DB to print normally (direct to printer). We are having to export layouts as PDFs to be able to print.

I upgraded to FMPro 9 and now I can only print in Arial - all my layout fonts are ignored. My nice envelope layout with Monotype Corsiva comes out in ugly drab Arial. I made sure that all the fonts are configured and show up in the Font menu. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thank you all for any bright ideas! Yuri

I am a cad operator whose employer needs me to operate filemaker 6 & i'm clueless. I printed a part that had 14 pieces(in a scroll box) yet only 10 pieces printed & the screen itself printed not the page that used to come when somebody else was doing this.

I have a report that can be from 1 to 10 pages long. The text field is 7800 px long to support the 10 page report. It has a Title Header and a footer. Slide up in the text field to handle page counting and 1 to 9 page reports. The Mac clients print this report with no problem, the windows clients print the same report to the same printer but the text field prints over the footer on each page? This is a FM 6 solution. Also has anyone noticed that print preview on a windows box and the actual printed report do not always match?

I want to print our address book in Franklin 3.5" x 6" format. Our old address book, in Palm Desktop, would print 3 odd-numbered pages on one side of the paper, and 3 even-numbered pages on the other side. One side of the paper has pages 1, 3, and 5; the other side has pages 2, 4, and 6. Page 1 lines up with page 2 so you can cut up the pages and make a little book out of it. I've spent two days trying to build a class roster for my school database. Things were going pretty well until I needed to show data from two different tables on the same line, so I had to abandon a promising layout using a portal. Next, I put together a report layout to display records in a found set that would produce a class roster. It works well in list view, and displays everything I need on the class roster. When it is time to print, however, only the first record displayed is printed. With all of FMPs upgrades, does anyone know of any basic set of printer requirements for printing reports from FMP? Are PCL 5E, PostScript 3, and PCL 6 enough? How about memory?

What have I done this time?! I have a simple(?) report, printing Sub-summaries above and below the Body plus a Footer. Looks fine in Preview mode but, when I actually print, only the Body and Footer print. The Body is a bit tricky. It's a three row portal with sundry objects behind the portal, which print when a portal row is empty. However, I cannot see why this should have any bearing on the problem. (And there are excellent reasons for printing a portal.) I've triple-checked the sort, all the relationships, text formats, and everything else I can think of. It was working until I corrected an error with the Portal relationship. Perhaps I should mess it up …

Was hoping that someone out there has discovered a way to use printer fonts. I am using a CBM receipt printer and TrueType fonts don't look so good. I have searched past posts and did not find a solution. Has anyone discovered a way to use printer fonts with Filemaker 9.0?

Can I print a student contact sheet with no blank vertical space? This occurs when no data is entered. Example: Mr. Joe Smith 000 Apple Lane Los Angeles, CA 12345 I have a merge field there in case he has a partner. I also follow this with information on a second family in case the student has more than one family. If there is no second family I get 4 blank spaces before the next entry starts.

I’m having problems with preview mode and I haven’t found anything on the forum to help me solve this. When on an active record, I want to print the report layout for that record. When I run the print script (below) the preview shows the 1st record and not the active record, but when it prints, it prints the correct active record perfectly. Is this even possible by with one script? I haven't worked through it all yet but here what I'm hoping to do. I have a list of people some adults some minors. I want to send a reminder letter to all of them but for HIPAA (or HIPPA) reasons I can't send letters directly to a minors. So we have two layouts one form for adults one for the minors. I want to be able to print letter for the found set but have them print on the write form. I guess if I can't have it print on two layouts I could use a Case() to print the write body.

When I create a multi-page report, the only means a user has to read it is to hold down the Control key and either the up arrow (for going backward) or down arrow (for going forward) to move about. (I purposely disabled the Status Area bar so they don't have access to it. Is there a more elegant way of scrolling through pages? Since I (assume that I) can't have a button available while in Print Preview to create a simple pagination script, my options are limited. As always, TIA for your help!

My "Letter size" print job to my printer and/or to Adobe PDF print has changed and the pages on all of my different layouts are no longer sized properly. I have to reduce my "page setup" in Filemaker to 94% to print any one of my layouts. That reduction fowls up the data/ print to some degree and I need to get back to the original letter size. The Mac finder preferences are set to "letter size". I have no idea how to check to see if this a Mac issue or if it is my Filemaker 8 layouts? The only change that I am aware of is I did download Apple's newer firmware update a week before this problem occurred. Nothing else has changed in years. Any Ideas??? …

I know this has to be easy but it is giving me a hard time! All I want to do is date stamp a report with the current date when it is printed each time. Please help my brain is hurting...

Greetings all, I have an issue with printing "two-up" labels on a Zebra 2844 TT printer. The label has 5 lines of text. All the text is well within margins. Page setup points to correct printer and label template, Across, then Down, and Fixed Margins unchecked. The issue is the first pair of labels print okay. The second label pair prints the fifth line one line low so the last line of text ends up on the non-print area. The third pair is skipped altogether. The remaining records print okay until the end. All the records are printed - i.e. no record is skipped, just the second and third pair of labels is wasted. My work-around has been to insert dummy…

... ive experienced this before .. but i just put it down to a corrupted file... its not... unless ive been unknowngily working on 5 different corrupted files... ANYWAY moving on to the problem... It occurs in large calc fields that return text or large text fields in general... When i preview everything looks fine and great and what not... when i print, random blocks of text on random lines, will sometimes just disappear... maybe the cow stole them but i dont care, this is killing me... i cant supply a solution with a problem that I dont know the solution to... cause then its not really a solution you know... its just an extra problem ... sigh so frustrated…

Hello. I am using FMP 6 (eegads.) I set up a new layout, set it to the right DYMO label size, and put my fieds on it. When I print, a single label does advance, but nothing is printed on it. I've just spent three long days experimenting, referencing 2 books, searching forums, and viewing multiple videos/demo files - all to no avail. I have a permitting db. Simplified, it contains a table of permits and a table of types of permits (approx. 15). What I would like to do is generate a report showing the counts of each type of permit in a given time frame. I'm such a beginner that I was pretty happy to get a working invoice built...until I printed it. All the Filemaker fields and their data print out perfectly, but the company logo, a JPEG, refuses to print. I tried simply importing that JPEG into the header, and I tried putting it in a globally stored field -- but it won't print either place. Any ideas?

I know there must be a simple reason for this, but I can't figure it out. I have two contact records in a table (Mr Jones, record 1 and Mr Smith, record 2). I have a (non-global) letter field where I can print a letter to the contact (using merge fields, etc). In browse mode I preview Mr Jones letter, it looks great! In browse mode (while on Smith's record) when I preview Mr Smith's letter, it shows Mr Jones letter (!?!?!). While in preview mode, I can click the notebook icon to advance to Mr Smith's letter and then print the letter. What's happening? Why does the Jones letter show when I select preview while on Smiths record. I'm not using any scripts. TIA
