Has anyone ever come across this problem which is afflicting me on FPro 7 using Apple OSX 10.3.9? - If I want to copy a piece of text, for instance the word'Problem' I highlight the exact word 'Problem' then do 'Apple Copy'. - For some reason, instead of picking up the word 'Problem' what I actually pick up is 'roblem '. In other words there's a misalignment between what I see my cursor doing on screen and what it is actually doing. - It's only a problem in Filemaker, not in other applications. - I'me viewing Filemaker at 100% size. Any advice gratefully received!

  2. I am running 6.0v4 and have recently upgraded several office sets to XP Home Edition, sp2. One set, already existing, has never had any issues with the Filemaker databases. The new sets all started running the database fine. Then one by one, have developed what I call "slow" disease ONLY with FM Pro. At first, if this was noticed right away, performing a restore to an earlier point on the XP machine would make it go away. This is no longer the case. The database, even if moved directly to that set and not hosted through the network, opens very slowly (3-5 minutes) and screen switching, especially between files, takes from 30 seconds to 1 minute. On the same network, mac…

I had my Filemaker Pro 4.0 files hosted on this server. Users in my LAN could access the files via FM clients in the network, as well as from outside the LAN (remote). Then recently I upgraded the file server to Windows 2003 Server. I installed FM Pro 4.0 in the new server and hosted the SAME files. Now, client access from within my LAN is not affected. They can access the hosted files, no problems. Problem is when I try to access the files from remote (outside my LAN). I try the normal way (which wo…

  8. I have a LAN with four Macintoshes connected to a switch (not a router) and am seeing very erratic behavior. I set up a test DB on each machine and set them to multiuser. None of the Macs see all three other hosts. They all either see only one, or none at all. One of them can see two. Two of the Macs are running 10.2.x and two are running 10.3.x. I'm thinking that the problem may be because we are using a switch and not a router. It is like they are on a different subnet or something. Any advise is highly appreciated.

I use FMPro 5.5 and will be upgrading to Tiger any day now. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if FMPro 5.5 databases of this type will work with Tiger or whether I will have to redo it in FMPro 7. It is a one machine database with no server or web access involved. I have FMPro 7, but my database was too complex to transfer from 5.5 to 7 without lots of reprogramming, so I've not bothered. However, if I can no longer run it with Tiger, then I'll have to bite the bullet and redo the database from scratch. Thanks, Robert

  60. Hello Everyone, I am using remote access between two computers (Internet -- FL & NY). One connection is a cable modem (client) and the other is a burstable T-3 (Host). I am running on FM7 Client on both machines. Everything seems to be fast until you go to a page with a portal. The client side says it takes "along time" (maybe a couple a min) to index itself from the host. Is there any way to speed the indexing up on the portals. Maybe cache size or something. Thank you, Joseph

First of all: I'm glad to have discovered this forum, wish you all a great 2005. Here's te question: I've been using Filemaker since Filemaker II and I'm used to upgrading each time there's a new version. No problem putting it on my dual 1,25 G4 I guess. But what about my iBook G3 500Mhz? That I use probably more than my G4 and I was not planning to throw out. I'm using Classic on that one, afraid that Panther (let alone Jaguar) would make it collapse... Now, if I move to 7, what's gonna happen? Will it be able to run

I need to connect three Mac OSX.3 users to the system, the thing is they are a "remote user" so I thought I might use Terminal services to do this. I've installed Remote Desktop Connection on each Mac. What licencing and price will I need to obtain from Microsoft to allow three TS users to connect concurrently, and has anyone managed to printout docs from TS and filemaker whilst logged on remotely? My databases contain dynamic graphs or maps which reflect data specific to each record, and which need to be refreshed when switching records. Navigating among records is therefore done with brief scripts that include a refresh step; the Status Area is hidden. However, one can still scroll records with the mouse wheel, and lose the updating. Can scrolling be turned off from within Filemaker? It seems unrealistic to expect people to turn off scrolling ahead of time.

I am struggling with a slow remote database. After connecting to the remote database, the first time I create a new record it takes over 20 minutes to just create a new record. If I then create another record, it is relatively fast (1 sec to create). If I then close and reopen the remote database, it again takes 20 minutes to create a new record the first time. If i access the file locally, creating a new record takes less than a second every time. Is there anyway to force a log that will help me figure out what filemaker is hanging on? Any idea of what could cause this problem?
