Hi, I have a portal displaying transactions. I want to filter the transactions so that I'm only looking at the current year. the records I'm displaying in the portal have a DATE field (the field is imported from a mysql db as mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss) and the information in my FM db is formatted as mm/dd/yyyy I'm filtering using the calculation If ( Transactions:_transDate >"01/01/2012" ; 1 ; 0 ) However this is not filtering out transactions from 2011 What am I doing wrong? Hi there... Slightly irritating problem... i have done a lovely layout... it fits perfectly on my screen when filemaker is maximised (screen res is 1280 x 1024) Now I go and check the layout on another PC, same res, and the layout is rendered a few pixels wider and taller!! This is causing the scroll bars to be enabled and it just looks "off" Why is there this difference? Whats causing it? Aare there any settings in windows I should be checking? Hi all I have a layout divided into header body subsummary and footer - a button toggles between two views - form and list so that the subsummary doesn't show in list view I am trying to do a custom background by entering a series of graphics into the various parts and then sending to the back. The problem I have is that the graphic in the body part will not align exactly with the edges of the part (the dotted lines at top and bottom) so leaving a small gap when it is in browse mode The part boudarys will not align exactly with the grid lines or the tee square making it impossible to get them exactly aligned even if I resize the graphic So what I was wondering …

I am relatively new to filemaker, I have been working on a database and its coming nicely. All my layouts are looking good except 1. When i view it in form view all the fields and containers stretch out to the length and width of window. None of the other layouts do their, if i grab the right edge and drag it to the left on the other layouts it just cuts across the fields. But on this one it stretches and shrinks based on window size and shape. Hi, I've been searching around for a solution to this problem and can't find much on it. Nothing recent anyway, so I hope things have moved on. I've convinced my company to switch from managing our pricelists in Excel to FM. However, we had hyperlinks on all products codes which opened the product page on our website. Excel includes this information for exporting to PDF no problem, so the link is still active in the cirruclated PDF version. When I setup via relationship a valuelist of a date field I logically obtain a (text) list of dates. But I need to use it to control a relationship with a date field and the stuff only works when text valuelist and date field are equally formatted. I use the european date format, sorry V.list 6/1/2012 7/1/2012 8/1/2012 13/1/2012 can not be relationated to the date field 06/01/2012 or can not be found in the vList via PatternCount. Really simple question! If I'm needing to truly align two objects, my intuition tells me they should both be an odd number of pixels in size, or both even. Would that be right? Okay -- follow up question. If I'm wanting text in an Edit box to be centered vertically -- in other words, no closer to the top of the text box than the bottom -- . . . or to *appear* centered to the eye (which may not be the same answer - as framers often mat the bottom edge of a painting slightly fatter than the top) . . . . should the text box be odd and the font size also odd, or . . . ? Hello I have some buttons which allow me to define some values which will help choosing the kind of report which should be created. The button sets a variable value (for instance to "details", "daily", "monthly") and the script acts accordingly. My questions: • is there a way to show the value of the variable on the current layout? (found it after a much needed coffeebreak... ) • would it be wiser to use a global to store the choice? I have a portal where I'm using an ID field and want it to show a name, not the ID number. I used the value list, selected the popup menu option, defined the id as its name, used the 'show second value.' All the relationships are in place for this to happen. When in browse mode, clicking on the field shows the name list but the name does not persist. If you go to another layout and come back, there is the id showing, not the name. What is really puzzling is I am duplicating an example, and I swear that I followed it exactly. The example persists; mine does not. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I finally got around to implementing drag and drop functionality within our database. I've used this simple technique http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/62097-drag-and-drop/ mainly because it didn't need scripts (and I've looked at other methods and couldn't get my head around it). What happens is I drag a staff members name onto a shift. This then populates that the shift has been filled by this staff member. It all works perfect. The problem comes into it with our Availability table (shows when staff are available). In the past, when we assigned a shift to a staff member a script would run that would update the Availability table to show they were working. With …

I have a portal that displays 10 rows with no vertical scroll bar. There are approximately 200 records in my table occurrence. I want my users to navigate by clicking on buttons, similar to the navigation in this forum. (please see attached screen capture) When I try to use a "go to portal row" script step it does not work becuase it only allows me to choose records being displayed (portal rows 1-10). Is there a way that can I display records 11-20 without changing layouts, and without showing the vertical scroll bar? Unfortunately showing the scroll bar, or even turning it on and making it transparent is not an option with this particular solution.

I have a portal showing all the students and their birthdays. I want to display only the children who have a birthday coming up this week. I tried filtering the portal with the following calculation; Students:Birthdate ≥ Get(CurrentDate) AND ≤ (Get(CurrentDate +7)) .... But no cigar. I have also tried sorting the dates by Students:Birthdate but it sort by year, then Month Name (which is not the mlnths in order) Mmm, got a few ideas about teh sorting but no clue about the filtering. Hi All, How can I or one of my users deselect a radio button set without using the shift/click action? I intend to publish a list of two hotel categories via custom web publishing. Each category will have a radio button and if hotel category 1 gets selected then category 2 gets deselected. I have this option for 8 nights at 16 different hotels; now if a customer clicks through the hotel categories, makes his selections and then decides that he doesn't want to book the hotel on a certain day, it will still show his earlier initial selection. Thus the need for a deselect of single radio buttons or refresh of all the selections made. Thank you guys! Andy

Okay, this is a tiny question, but one that's bothered me for years. When I'm in layout mode starting a brand new project, I like to set the body part to the approximate the size of the window, and then I use the T-Square lines and the line-drawing tool to sort of sketch out how I might use the real estate. Or whatever. But always, getting in the way, is that squiggly vertical line that shows where the edge of the "page" would be. . . . but this is going to be a data entry layout, never printed. So why must I have this thing distracting me all the time? Ironically, the only way to hide it seems to be to choose "View Page Margins" -- which is even worse. …

Okay, this is somewhat embarrassing, but I can't seem to get a simple sub-summary part to display summary data properly. Table 1: Stocks -- 1 record per financial stock, with fields for Ticker, Manager (each stock only managed by 1 person), and a few others Table 2: Trades -- child table, 1 record per stock sale, w/ fields for date, # of shares, buy price, sale price, net $, etc. In the Trades table, I have various summary fields like "Total $ invested" and "Count of Trades" so that from the Stocks context I can see combined data for all trades of a single stock. Hello all. I have a tricky problem with authentication using the web viewer in FMPro 11 and OS X Lion. I have a solution which uses the web viewer to view password authenticated pages from one of our web servers. Many moons ago, I saved the password for these intranet pages which meant I didn't have to enter the password each time I visited a new record, nor even after closing the file and reopening. However, recently my Keychain developed some corruption so I had to delete it and start again. Hi, I only program occasionally and feel as though I've overcome this before... but can't recall how I've 2 tables A and B, both can have more than 1 related record with the other, when I do a summary in A where B has more than 1 related record, I get the multiple A values (and therefore they all sum() ) they but I only want that value once, and visa-versa. I know I can create 2 layouts but Ideally I'll like to be able to do it on 1 hope if explained it properly thanks

Hi Is it possible to get Filemaker to auto adjust the field size in a portal according to the amount of text that it contains. This portal contains the entries on an invoice page I am creating and the description of the work can be one line or ten lines long. I can manually adjust the field to show all the text but then it is the same for all the other entries and I have empty spaces on my page. Maybe Im going about it the wrong way and shouldnt be using a portal in this situation. I would appreciate any help with this as I have spent two days wrestling the script to get all the info into the portal, only to be stuck at the final hurdle. Thanks

Hi All, I am stuck with a conditional formatting issue on one of my layouts. Here's what I'd like to accomplish: I run a business for motorcycle tours. I have a total of 20 tours for 2012 with a maximum of 15 participants for each tour. For an overview of what is booked and how many spaces I have left over for a soecific tour I want to have a layout that graphically shows me how many spots on a scale from 1 to 15 are sold and how many are still available. Hello all I have been asked to design a table with a list of companies showing the various subscribers underneath Very easy main table - records by company then a join table to the main contacts database and show the subscribers in a portal However I have been asked to show the list of companies and then give the user the abilty to expand the record to see the subscribers as they see fit. Good day dear FM friends, I have hot stuck on something much trivial - something I though would be a breeze to set up, but apparently not. Please help, dear friends! I thought I could easily find a function similar to GetValue but the other way around. With a valuelist based on cities::id to show cities::name I would need to do something like: getValueListItem("cities value list"; "Paris") to return cities::id. I understand I can use position to find the position in the list, but how about the corresponding id?

I'm having a bit of trouble on a value list in a way I have never encountered before. As you can see in the popup, the value list shows two fields. The first field is a number field, the second is text. I would like the user to be able to select the item by typing the account number. However, a strange behavior is happening. When I start to type the number, the value list disappears and then only the numbers typed so far show in the field. Now, If I change the value list to sort by the second field, the description, it allows the selection of the value list by typing the account number. I have never seen this behavior before. I have a portal that has 2 script triggers on it, each triggered via different fields in the portal. When the portal is empty (ie no portal rows), I cannot trigger any scripts. The only way is to set up the portal at a button, but then I loose the ability to trigger the scripts I need on the two fields I mentioned above. Is there a way to trigger a script on an empty portal without setting it up as a button? Thank you, Fed

I have a database I have been designing and I can not figure out how to get a relationship to allow me to type in fields that are on the main table. Here is my breakdown. I have a main customer table, I have an orders table and I have a customer visit table. I want my customer info stored on my customer table, and from my orders table I want to be able to type a customers name in the name field, and that automatically creates a new customer entry if the customer isn't already in the list. My main layout is a rats nest of over two hundred fields. Some fields are duplicated (aargh!) The layout body stretches down some 60 inches, and things are sometimes almost randomly placed. Yes, it's so messy that I can't find where one particular field is located on the layout. (is it over on the bottom left of the layout? On the right side, fifteen fields from the top?) Of course, I should clean things up. But to do so, I have to find the fields that show up two or three times on this layout. I want to contextually assign different value lists to a field. I have a field that is used on two different tab panels of a layout. My script needs to select the second occurrence and then do a Select All so the user can just type over the contents. I use Go To Object to display the correct panel, but how can I select the contents? A Select All doesn't work because a Go To Field hasn't been performed. Hi, I have a need to change the filtering of a portal on the fly. The current relationship to this portal is that of a client number, but need to narrow the filter down even more as a keyword is typed into a field outside the portal. The attachment shows a simplified version of a situation I've encountered on a much more complicated layout. The problem is to have the filtered portals show contents in the same order as the 1, 2, 3 order of the parent records ... 1 on the left, 2 in the middle and 3 on the right. I've been mulling over some possibilities ... like having a separate "driver field" that is built by a triggered script whenever a change is detected in the order of parent records. Hi All, Is there a way to Auto-Enter a field on Creation of a new Record based on Value List. Quick background: I work for NASA and up until 2 years ago we were using FM here to do some of our work instructions. We have since gone to another system (which none of us engineers like) and I am now trying to put together a little demo to show my management that we need to switch back to FM so we can run paperlessly runing FM Go. I am using a radio button on my layout. To see the click button area I give it a stroke of 1 pt but when I do this I also get a line on the top and left hand side of my field box. In effects everything is set to none so I cannot figure out why this is happening or how to fix it. If I click off the stroke for the button the lines disappear but then so does my button. How do I get my button to show up with a stroked line and no lines to appear around my field box in the top and left hand side? As always any help would be appreciated. I dont use the list view at all, but now that i have to print invoices out, i see the need as well as for searches. Hello All, For nicer appearance of my layouts I have inserted a jpg image of a nice web button into my layout and assigned a script to it. Both mouse buttons (left and right) work to click the button but when clicking with the left button the graphic of the button turns into its negative colors which for the time of the click which makes it look very strange. This does not happen when I click with the right mouse button. Is there anything I can do to prevent the button from changing its colors? Thanks in advance, Andy

I have two portals on a layout that show widgets from the same table (which has Allow Creation enabled). One portal is filtered to show only Type A widgets. The other shows only Type B's. When a user adds a widget to one of the portals (by entering on the last line), I'd like the add action to automatically set the widget Type according to which portal is being used. That way, the new entry will remain in the correct portal. BTW, the Type is not displayed in the portals. Indeed, the user is not even aware of the mechanism driving the content of the two portals. Hey Everyone; Got a question about printing a report or in my case the order/ invoice . what would be the best practice here in printing the report via all these tables eg. Customer->order->orderITEMS->Payments I NEED all this information along with other info such as "company information in case of emergency,etc" i am about to do a report, plug the data into a virtual list and after place all information into a table. If I create a value list with custom values and begin it with a carriage return before I type my choices, the pop-up displays a blank at the beginning so that the option is also to blank the field. But if I use the same value list and attach as radio button, it does not provide the blank 'circle'. Why is the behavior inconsistent? It makes sense not providing the blank on checkboxes because they can be unchecked but radio buttons can't. I read about using shift to 'remove' a radio button selection it does not seem like the right approach. I would have to put a message above all my radio buttons (which I will allow removal of data). Sorry, I meant through not though, of course! I'd like to get Filemaker to sign in to web pages for me via a script, and then display the resulting web page in the viewer. For example, I'd like to automatically log in to my gmail. Is this possible? It seems to require passing a POST command, and I've looked at several utilities to do that (Scriptmaster, FMNexWeb, the Troi PostUrl plug in). They all seem to offer what I need, but I can't figure any of them out. Too thick I guess! Any pointers would be appreciated.

I'm using FMP10, and our database is published online. I'm the only one who has access to add entries to our value lists. The value list is created by entries into the field, as opposed to creating a list manually. With 169 entries into the value list, 12 are duplicates. They are exact duplicates, i.e., if you do a search on duplicate version #1, I get 625 matches, and a search on duplicate version #2 also finds 625 matches. I have no idea how these are being created. I know I didn't do it, and since no one else has access, I don't see how anyone else could be causing this. I've seen FileMaker apps designed by others where the fill color of an object on the layout changes as the user enters that object. For example, as the user tabs from one editbox control to another on a layout, the fill color of the current object changes from white (the apparent default color) to yellow. I always thought that technique was cool and wanted to know how to accomplish it. I've recently had an opportunity to look at a file which used that technique. I have a repeating field with 36 vertical repetitions. I would like each repetition to have visible borders around each one. When I turn on field borders for all 4 sides it only does the outside borders of the entire set of repetition fields. The other problem / trick is that the set scales with anchors set to top, bottom, and right so faking it with other objects is tricky at best. Any ideas?

As you can see in the photo attached my page margins don't match up with my layout ... I have searched everywhere and for the life of me cannot figure out how to specify the page layout/margins so they match the iPads screen size ... without changing the page margins for the entire database and regular computer layouts ... I tried to switch to landscape mode and that looked more fitting for the iPads screen size but then when i tried to print on another layout it printed incorrectly. Thanks, Matt 22.tiff

Hi - I have decided to replace a few drop down lists with small windows/layouts carrying portals. I have set the window height (via 'New Window') to 225px, but they always open at 167px. If I click in the window (outside the portal) the height changes to 235px! It does what I expect if I use a greater height measurement (eg: 445), but why is it ignoring me at 225? Is 235 a default minimum? And, if so, why is it opening at 167? It sets to 225 if I use Adjust Window (resize to fit) based on a background item, but I'd rather not use this.

It would be really nice to have a simple "Locked: Yes / No" radio button on a record, so that nobody can accidentally delete data when they wanted to find something, for example. I can handle this at the layout level by setting access rights to a particular layout using a yes/no button on a different layout, but that's pretty kludgy. Is it possible to enabled/disable field Browse using a script or conditional formatting? Or to make it impossible to change the content of the field some other way? Ya'know how you can put your cursor in a field and then ctrl-i and it shows the index and you can even if you want, show word index (although I have no clue why you would want that)... I have text data which starts with a number, e.g. "1. Blah", "2. Blah", "3. Blah" .... etc. The data may also include "4a. Blah", "4b. Blah". The data is listed in a portal, and I want to sort the data by the leading number. Is there any easy way to do this, without 10 appearing between 1 and 2, but rather after 9....? If I show the Formatting Bar so people can see the bold, italic, underline, it works but it does not show all of the formatting listed in the menu, such as style. Why not? There is space for Style and all formatting options to fit across the status bar. Am I missing something obvious? Surely FM did not include Bold, Italic and underline but then forget everything else. I keep looking for the hidden button to show them.

Hi folks, I have a layout that is a template for printing CD labels. It never fails, however, that whenever I use it, it appears the whole layout needs slight tweaking to line-up properly with the CD labels I am printing on to. Since my file has users locked out of entering Layout mode, is there a way to somehow script buttons that can nudge all the objects on the layout up or down and left or right, by tiny increments, like say a few pixels? Currently the only solution is to enter Layout mode and select all the objects and manually nudge them. But if this could be accomplished in browse mode using scripted buttons, that would be great! I am completely stuck. I created one table and one self-join relationship. I put a portal in the layout. The portal has three fields. RecNum (Calculation), Field1 (Text), Field2 (Text). It is late at night and maybe I shouldn’t be posting, but I can’t get this to work the way I think is should. Users are requesting a “Back” (and “Forward”) button. We all know that they won’t work “exactly” like a web browser, but they still want it. What I did was use the “onLayoutExit” script trigger to set the variable $$layout to the Layout Name (or ID). Then I have a “back” button/script that says Go to Layout "$$layout”…simple right? Well, my little brain can’t get it to work. The layout recorded is the Layout that I go to not the one exiting from. So the “back” is the same layout. Uhg. Why is this? Feeling dumb and frustrated…especially if a bug!

More of an annoyed rant and a quest of why but: I discovered that when having a list of conditions to evaluate (on hold - open - open passed due - closed in that order) that if the circumstances allow for say past due and on hold to resolve as true, thus satisfying two of the conditions, the last in the order is executed instead of the first correct condition encountered... why? This seems to be counter intuitive unless I'm missing something? If it encounters the first condition in the list and it resolves as true, why waste time continuing down and evaluating the others in the list???

Hi, I used the Insert Picture to place an image but mistakenly got the images from another unrelated folder thats not distributed. The ruuntime test fine showing images on My Computer ...however when i install on a virgin machine.. I have missing images.. (forgot and distributed to a client ummmm) Here is the question.. I am developing a simple invoicing solution, and I need to provide a report that has a summary of information from 2 other tables. For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to apply the date range to the calculation. to simplify: table1 = labor sales, table2 = Item sales (assume each has a date field) I need to create a report that gives me summaries for a date range, a page that just has "total labor sales for date range" and "total item sales for date range". I am using FM 8.5 on a Mac with a database of 50 labels. i am using the supplied template for Avery label L7161 (18 labels per each A4 sheet) and it all lines up and prints lovely EXCEPT every 7th address in the database is not printed! I confirm that 18 labels are printed per page and that the page is set to A4. The labels are printed down and then across. Why would FM omit printing what would be the 7th (and, thus, off the page) label of every column? Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation? Roger

Im using two screens screen1 : To add employee details [with name, address.. etc] screen2: Showing employee details in portal list. And i hosted this FileMaker application to fm server. and opened in two terminal. first terminal is screen1 and second terminal is screen2.
