FileMaker Pro v7 – v11

In version 8 I was getting consistently bloated PDFs (sometimes 100MB+) when using the Save as PDF script step, but in 8.5 this problem seems to have disappeared - has anyone else noticed this? I have not seen it listed in the 'New features'. (8.5 advanced / Mac OS X 10.4.7)

OK, is anyone else seeing this. I am getting the wrong record number reporting when records are omitted from the found set. Get ( RecordNumber ) reports the record number as if all records were found...but it is intermittant. Have reported the bug to FM.

Since upgrading to 8.03, Filemaker Pro crashes every time I invoke the print menu. Page Setup is ignored. Is there a workaround other than reinstalling FM Pro 8.01 which worked fine? Thanks.

Hi, all!!! I am using the developer utilities to ENABLE KIOSK mode for non-admin accounts. Here are my steps: -Tools->Developer Utilities -Add my database file -Rename my file ( just in case) -Select my project folder -Select overwrite matching files -Click Solution Options button --check Create Runtime Solution --check Enable Kiosk mode for non-admin account --check Create error logging ( i get no errors.) Is it the end of the road when having tried to recover a d/b it still will not operate ok? Mine opens ok but any attempt to work on a field instantly brings up "encountered a problem" All is not lost as i have a back up just one day old but for my own knowledge i would like to know what else i could possibly do to try recover use of this d/b jacky

Help: My problem is based on calculating how many pieces of paper I get from a specific paper size. In printing one way to find how many pieces we get, is using the following math work. I write the size of the original paper, and then I write the size I need. By canceling the number I find how many pieces of paper come out of the original size. I work it out like an algebra problem. The original size on the top, on the bottom the size I want. By crossing (dividing o canceling) numbers I find out how many pieces I get. For example if the original paper size is 17” x 22”, and I need pieces of 8.5” x 11”, I will get four pieces from each original sheet size, depending the …

I am seeing that with Windows clients (not Mac clients) that printing to network printers is defaulting to the first network printer in your printer list...regardless of which printer you select. Anyone have a solution? I have reported this bug. Or noticed it?

How can I clear the "Open Recent" list of files? Surely there must be a way, but I have been unable to find it. I do know how to prevent the list from appearing or to change the number of files that appear in the list, but I want to clear the list and start fresh. John Link

Hello, In 8.0 I've found the commit/revert record feature to be user-UNfriendly, specifically because of the following scenario: If a user inadvertently clicks outside of a field while entering data, then he/she is presented with a "Save changes to layout?" dialog, provided the "Save record changes automatically" option is unchecked in Layout Setup. This can get quite annoying after a while. Has this behavior changed at all in 8.5? I was hoping to be able to suppress this dialog.

My NoteLog field is broken on v8.5! I had happily used the trick of two fields and the auto enter calculation to keep timestamped notes. After upgrading to 8.5 this seems broken completely! The fields fail to update and the calculation no longer considers which field was created first. In other words, the NewNote Field clears but the NoteLog field does not update with the NewNote data! This is scary. I have quite a few places where this was keeping perfect track of things and now it's not functioning at all. I haven't read around much yet to see how to deal with this but this is a real problem. Nathan

Is it me or is IWP completely useless for publishing web applications. I think Filemaker pro is an outstanding product for RAD, however its local client and web publishing still suffers from massive screen flashing and redraw issues. I have been able to create a top notch application with this product, and with the help of the good people at this forum. But, not having the ability to deploy my application becomes a problem. Are there any fixes on the way? Does Filermaker 8 server resolve this problem? Is filemaker even aware of this? The knowledge base offers no response. I thought filemaker code gets compiled into flash or java, there really shouldnt…

Hi, I design database applications for a company that is sloooow to adopt new revisions.. so I'm sure we won't be upgrading to 8.5 for quite some time. In the meantime, are there ways that I can plan for the future while continuing to improve my solutions now.. (while minimizing the need to redo them to incorporate the niceties of 8.5) ? for example.. I'm wondering how Object Features may make developing easier & better for me and better for the users.. and am hoping to not spend a lot of time on an interfact tactic now if it will be much better using objects. thx. beta

Whenever I dbl-click the installer app. to upgrade my MacBook Pro from FMP Advanced 8 to 8.5, it opens the application Script Editor instead of the installer. Any ideas?

Has anyone gotten the example plugin to compile on Intel? I just tried it and got a ton of warnings and one error, which really looks like a lot of errors (undefined symbols). I was hoping it'd just build, since I didn't make any changes to the project. Did FileMaker even try this out? Thanks

I just upgraded from 8.0v3 Pro (NOT Advanced) to 8.5 Pro Advacned. My databases are hosted with FMP 8.0v4 Server on a Dual G5 XServe. While working on my 20" 1.8Ghz G5. A couple of things I have noticed. 1. Sorting is noticably slower with 8.5 Adv than with 8.0 Pro. 2. Also, I have a script that launces, updates other dbs then hides other FMP databaes. Since I've upgraded to 8.5 Advance, it no longer hides the windows of the updated dbs instead it minimizes them. Anyone seen any similar issues? Thanks

I don't know much more than what the Release says, and a few posts here. Just a few questions, if anybody wants to show how smart they are... How capable is the Web Viewer? (Display basic objects only? Form Capable? Stylesheets? JavaScript or any scripts?) Trying to comprehend what it "views", and if it has any HTML features like hyper-links. On Objects: How in-depth do the Objects go? From that I mean, can we Define Classes, Inherit other Classes/Objects, Override Inherited features, ...? Just how Object Oriented is it? I doubt that our company will get a copy of it for a month or so. Curious as to how much power this all adds.

Going Nuts, Hey everyone, maybe the topguys can come up with a solution. I have a simple database, with a pulldown or popup list ( which ever ) with link values. I need the ability to select a record from that list, and goto the related record in that table. Easy with a go or submit button, but stumped with on exit option. Are event triggers possible? In my old FM 5 I use the change printer plugin from Productive Computing Inc. Its a very good plugin which let me have all printers in a register. If I change printer its only copy the printername and past it in the printer field and it works in all my registers. When I print I only tell the PlugIn that printer 2 should be used. In FM8 I can tell the computer what printer should be used but I cant tell the script picking up a specific printer from a field - I think? Its very hard changing printers name in all scripts in all solutions. The Productive Computing way is much simplier. Do anyone know if this is working in FM8.5? -Per

I need to set up a script that will my client to email photos of paintings to various galleries. The image link is stored in the database and the image can be viewed in the database. I am wondering if it is possible to script attaching a file dynamically in filemaker? I know you can set a specific file but I can't find anything on naming the file to attach dynamically. Anyone know if this is possible?

I wand to be able to view and edit data in a filemaker layout that comes from external FM databases AND remote MySQL databases. I do not want to import/export anything and I do not want to mess with ODBC drivers. I just want to be able to edit data locally and have the changes instantly occur to the remote DBs. I have 2 date fields which appear in Layout and Browse modes, but which disappear in Preview Mode or when I print a page from Browse mode. The fields have data auto-entered in them. They are not the results of any lookups or calcs. Date formatting is irrelevant - I tried it both with leaving the date formatted as entered and with formatting the dates a specific way; neither format previewed or printed. I have recently tried to re-install my FMSA v8 from CD as the v8.3 update caused me some headaches. I have installed from CD FMSA v8.0, then tried to update to v8.2 using the download from the FM site (because that's the earliest available), but it tells me I need a valid version of FMSA v8.1 to install this update. I cannot find a v8.1 update and, after reading the v8.2 update info it suggests that my cd install version should be 8.1? I'm confused, am I missing something? Should my FMSA CD version be 8.1 or should there be an updater somewhere that I can't find?

Comments on new object functions: Make a simple rectangle. name the object. then set the object as a button, the object name no longer shows, naming the rectangle the same name indicates the name is used. resetting the rectangle as do nothing returns the object to its original name. Essentially the original object does not exist, but the name remains reserved. Doing the opposite, setting a named rectangle that that had a button already assigned to a do nothing, resets the object name null. I have created a relational data base. I am trying to create a script that will delete all the the related records from Table B when I delete a recorded from Table A. I tried to do a find, but it appears that the criteria in “Perform Find” only allows you to hard code an entry. For example, you can use this as the criteria “=2.1” but you cannot use “=$temp“ where $temp is equal to 2.1. Is it the case that I can’t use a variable in the find criteria? How can I do such a find? I admit I am new to FileMaker Pro, so if this is a simple mistake, great. I find it hard to believe you can’t find programically using variables of field data.

On openning up a downloaded sample file I get a message that the date and time formats associated with the file are different from the system settings and which one do I use. How do I fix this problem as it occurs whenever the file is openned?

Hello, we´ve just bought a 5-licence-Pack of Filemaker Pro 8 and want to install it on a remote server in a way that all 5 users share the same database. It´s a windows 2003 server, our 5 users (each with different windows username / profile) log in on the server via windows remote desktop and work that way directly on the server. I have a FMP 6 solution running on FM Server 5.5 on a Win XP Pro system...one problem i have is speed of displaying calculated results especially useres coming through VPN. I believe this is due to the calculations having to be carried out on the client side. I wonder if this is a bug or some new limitation in fm8 or maybe its just me. I have a script that deletes the "current login/password account user" and creates a new one. It used to work fine with 7 but now i receive a error when the account is created, not enough privileges. Even the custom privledg set i created in my solution allows all. The option"[Full access]" is ghosted in the "Add Account Option" Any ideas whats going on? I think the new account created has the custom privilege and wont allow to create a new account but "[Full access]" is not working, what to do? Hey all, Well, after months of periodic saturdays spent combing my scripts, fields, layouts, buttons, etc etc etc in a converted FMP5 to 8 set of 24 interrelated files, today was the day for the final reconversion of our most current FMP5 files, and final data import into our (hopefully!) fully functional and fixed FMP8 solution! Good bye classic mode, finally. Man, it flies too! Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced FileMaker 8 Advanced crashing when doing the following on a Mac running Tiger: When I'm in the Define Portal Dialog and I go to Define Database - Relationships Graph from there, if I try to set the size of 2 or more TO's to the same size (via the resizing feature in the drop down list), FM consistently crashes when I finish all the dialogs, return to the layout and switch to Browse mode. Hi all, Can anyone confirm this? I'm running my own FM7 database but I am thinking of getting FM8. Will my database work if I install Version 8?

I currently integrated several small databases in fmp 6 to one large database that contains several checkboxes. My boss bought fmp 8 advanced and I would like up upgrade but I fear that i will have to go through all 3,000 + files and re-enter the data in the checkboxes by hand, as i did when i integrated the database the first time. Will this happen? Or am I safe to upgrade with no worries?

I am wondering if anyone else has had the problem of the text cursor appearing to be one or two spaces farther than it evidently is, meaning, that it may look to rest after the "p" in "Aspen," yet when you delete backwards, for example, it will erase the "A." I remember this happening when we updated to FMP 7 but a simple version update fixed the problem. We have had FMP 8 for a while and it is completely updated and evidently this problem began out of the blue, not after any update of any kind. My summary fields are calculating correctly, but when I add a new record they go blank. If I leave the layout and come back to it - they are populated correctly again. What's up? Here are my fields: Debit = a number Credit = a number SDebit = Summary field, sum of Debit (running) SCredit = Summary field, sum of Credit (running) Balance = SCredit - SDebit When I add a new record and put data into the field "Debit", as soon as I hit Tab the SDebit field will go blank. Same pattern for Credit and SCredit. Please help.

Sorry the subject might be somewhat cryptic there. Is it possible for Fm8Pro (trial) to coexist on the same machine as Fm7 Developer does? I'm used to using FMP 5.5 and we switched to FMP8.0 Advanced. The New Record Icon used to be almost instant. Now it takes about 10-13 seconds. Is this normal? Can it be fixed?

FM8 Advanced will crash at least daily. Sometimes after being idle, sometimes mid job, hard to pin down. I'll get the windows "FM has a problem and needs to close", it does, but doesn't close the process, so I can't restart without going to the task manager and shooting Filemaker Pro Adavnced.exe (Filemaker Pro.exe has closed). Sometimes even after doing so, restarting Filemaker will get me to a too many users warning. Any leads as to what sort of things to look for? I'm using version 8.0v3, and my file is hosted remotely by a hosting company. There are only 2-3 users, others are using FM8 Pro and I haven't heard any complaints from them, other than about my d…

Yesterday I updated FM 8 on two machines running Windows XP Pro to v.03. Since then I already experienced 3 instances of the application freezing ("FM not responding" in Windows Task Manager), forcing me to force quit it (and lose recent changes in scripts.) This happened on several different files, and under slightly different circumstances. In one case the feeze occurred when looking at the table structure, in two other cases while editing scripts. Has anybody else experience this annoying and dangerous behavior?

Is there a limit to the number of characters that a script variable can hold? Regards

A new problem has cropped up after converting to FMP 8.03. Instead of properly wrapping, text in a field is overrunning the right border of the field and becoming hidden. This only happens for a word or two, then wrapping continues properly. If I use the arrow key to move thru the text, the cursor hovers at the right edge as I go thru the hidden portion of the text, then moves to the next line. If I hit "Enter", the hidden text jumps to the next line. If I hit backspace, the wrapping fixes itself... until I exit the field. Then, it jumps back up a line and becomes hidden again. Any thoughts?

Hi, I recently converted a databease created in FM6 to FM8. Its new, so only has a handful of records (sample data only). I converted it to FM8 and it seems to run slower. I can see the records being "painted" on the sceen. My question is whether this is because this database was converted from FM6, or would it be the same if the database was created from scratch using FM8? tks

I'm in the process of updating approx. 40 terminals to v8.03. I've had no problems with all but one. On this particular one, I had missed the v8.02 patch. Whenever I double click on the "setup" icon to apply it, I get an InstallShield dialogue box which says: Command line parameters: /L language ID /S Hide initialization dialogue. For silent mode use: /S /v/qn. /V parameters to MsiExec.exe /UA /UW /UM (see attached) This has not happened on any other machine, and I have done about 25 so far. Hello Everyone! I am having issues using Loops on my program. It turns my program really slow. I will place some numbers to make sure it is slow and it is not just me being impatient. In a sample with 32 Students that answer to 54 questions, therefore the table TEST_RESULT has 1728 records (32 x 54). The scripts take roughly an average 35 seconds to execute. The Loops are either by student (32 times) or by questions (54 times) and sometimes there is another variable involved. I tried using Freeze Window but sometimes it is still possible to see the scrollbar flicking. Are there any other suggestions to make my program run faster? Some of …

I am working on a layout with 2 portals on it. When I toggle from layout mode to browse mode and vice versa, the screen rewrites itself 2 and sometimes 3 times. Is there anything I can do to stop this? note: I have noticed that the toolbar icon groups changing from 1-3 rows might be connected to this. Thanks

I have a database on wich I do all my invoices, manage clients, purchase orders, etc. Last night I was working on it and suddenly one of the databases got corrupted, I have since then tried to recover the file without any luck. It starts with the recovering process and then it just stops at step 6 of 16, I leaved the recovering process all night without success. I have a Mac running OS 10.4.6 with FileMaker Pro Advanced 8.0v3. The file is password protected, but I don't think it is necessary for the recovering process, if you need it I'll give it to you. Over the weekend we upgraded from 6 to 8 v3. The transition went smoothly but I have encountered a small, yet odd problem. I have one client machine that is being disconnected after being idle for short time period (about 10 min). I’ve let other clients remain idle and encounter no connection problems. There are no settings on the server side that I can see that may be the culprit. Any ideas?

I am having a problem with FM 8 Advanced that makes it essentially unusable for me. Often a dialogue box or window pops up or becomes a completely blank white space when I transition from one thing to another involving a window adjustment. For example, if I export records, after the export, the space on the screen where the export window was is just a pure blank white space. I'm using a mac running os x.4.2. I'm wondering if it's worth experimenting to try and track the problem down, or if others have seen this problem. It seems _possible_ that it's related to CodeTek Virtual desktop, but I haven't had such a problem with any other application.

Hey folks, I've run a few searches and haven't found this error anywhere. I'm trying to upgrade a full retail install (that works just fine) of FMP 7 to FMP 8, but keep getting the following error right after launching the installer... "You cannot install or uninstall FileMaker on this version of Windows. Please refer to the system requirements in the installation instructions for more information." This machine fully complies with the requirements. It's running WinXP SP 2 (fully patched) and the hardware surpasses the system requirements by far. Hi, I am having a problem that just started today. I am trying to create a runtime solution from one file and after it starts to copy my file, the whole program just shuts down. Has anyone had this happen? I have been creating runtime solutions with 8 recently for other projects, and it was working fine until today...thought maybe my file was corrupt or something...but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Hi, I experience a weird display bug in filemaker advance 8 v2 on winXP connected on a FM8SA running on windows 2003. (see image below) The list overlay the statusbar and the footer ?! This bug happen in List mode. This bug does not happen when I use a mac computer with FM Pro 8 v2. Any Idea ??!!

Simple problem baffling me. Have a file with 20 layouts. I have a field called "View all layout names" and it is a calculated field which uses the LAYOUTNAMES(fieldname) function. It is blank and is not showing the layoutnames. I have tried every combination of indexing (on, minimal, all), I just can't get it to carry out an index and display the layout names. This was originally a FM6 file. When I create a small test file from scratch in FM8 the layout names do appear. Yet when I do the same in my other file....blank field. Is there any way of forcing an index to be made of the layout names ? I have tried deleting the field and re-defining it, to no avail. Am I…

hello Due to a flaw in the design of a database - one field I never ever expected people to use to search in - I had to index that particular field (being the only NOT indexed field) The table contains some 4 million recprds. Indexing that one field took me about 3 days, as in 72 hours. YET About 1 hour short of finishing - yup Murphy struck: MAC OS X 10.4.6 totally froze. Corrupted the filesystem of one of my hard disks so that took another two days to get restored again. I recently purchased FileMaker Pro Advanced to see if I could rewrite my existing (Helix Rade) database on this product. I have no real computer education so I'm struggling along with the help of a Missing Manual book. I have a script which archives records into an archive file, that has stopped working since my client upgraded from FMS7 to FMS8. It does a find, to isolate the record to be archived, and then performs an import script in the archive file, to import the found set from the original file. It then deletes the original record. This is then repeated many times, for each of the related tables. The records are now being deleted, but not archived. Has anyone any ideas? Just wanted to see if anyone saw the same problem. I installed the update in our test env. and everything seemed to go well. BUT, when rebooting there is no indication that the update installed correctly, Server console still says v2. any like issues out there???

Hi all I have just upgraded my entire network to work on FM8. It is now 10 pc's: Win XP, 1.8 GHz, 512 MB ram + 3 eMac's: OSX 700MHz processors,384 MB memory and a G4 server as the FM8 server. the pc's are running much faster than the macs.. I thought it would be the other way round.. is it the ram? what is the most determining factor in the speed of a guest on FM8??

Version 8 added the ability to return a value (script parameter) when a script exits. If the script is a top-level script, initiated by clicking a button, and the script is passed 3 fields as a script parameter, does anyone know how to return those 3 values into the passed fields? Clearly, if the script were called by another script, the other script could decode the results. But what if its the only script? This situation comes up all the time for me, and my solution to it is clunky: pass the script a parameter that tells the script which of a dozen relationships the results apply to. Steve

ok I just went and tried to make a login/password for my fmp8 file and now I cannot access it! I didn't realize I needed to create an account to log in with before I assign a username and password. I discovered this after attempting to repeat what I did to lock myself out and locked myself out of another temp file. What I did was go to "File" then "File Options". I gave my file a username and a password and clicked ok. Filemaker then tells me "This file will be opened automatically using the specified account. To use a different account, hold down the Option key (Mac OS) or Shifrt key (Windows) while opening the file." I go to open the file …

I am using Filemaker Pro V 8 and I am very new to it. When I go into Define database and then relationships and click on one of the tables I nearly always loose the screen at least it goes white if I click my mouse and hold down the button it comes back but let it go it dissappears again. Clciking on the OK button and close definitions and going back in gets it back again but the moment I try and manipulate anything I loose it again. I have used disk utility to rebuild all my permissions but that does not help. any suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks Mitch

Can any one tell me why I can't enter Tabs in the Calculation Formula window (Mac OS X 10.4.5, FileMaker 8 Advanced). I thought Option Tab was supposed to insert a tab. I can copy one from another calculation and paste it in. I just can't enter one from the keyboard or via macro.

I would like to know if anyone could tell me where to find the MRU storage location for previous opened files. I went ahead and said not to show any on preferences and then shutdown, ran a very thourough MRU clean with multiple apps, but it appears that FileMaker is not on their lists of MRUs to remove. When I reopened and selected the preference to display again, they reappeared. Some MRU applications are editable and I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way to find these so I could add these. (Note: This is for FM8 that I am trying to accomplish this on)

I do a lot of work in MS Word for one client, and I use FileMaker 7 to manage and check the complex web of files she sends me. My problem is that FileMaker infrequently (every 25 minutes) crashes with a "buffer overrun C++ runtime error" message while I'm working in MS Word (2000). I have no idea what this error denotes (i.e. a problem with Word, Windows, FileMaker, or some combination), but it's only FileMaker that crashes, and it's only while I'm in Word. Not sure if this is the best board, but... I've asked my managers if I can become FMP8 certified. They haven't denied me yet (the cost for coursework, etc.), but they haven't exactly embraced it. I am a mostly Mac guy. I have an FMP 7 solution that has as the default a no-password, limited access account called, "Public." In other words, when you open the file, normally no password dialog window appears. Of course, I also need to get into the file as the administrator from time to time so I need to get to that window to enter my password. On a Mac you can get the Password Dialog Window to show up by holding down the Control key when you open the file. What key do you use on the Windows platform to force the Password Dialog to appear? Each time I place the cursor in a field, I see the vertical text cursor, but immediately next to it is a blind spot (white space) approximately 50 x 50 pixels. I can type through it, but can't see what I'm typing. If I use the arrow keys the white space does not move with the cursor. I use Windows 2000 and do not have this problem in any of several dozen other programs. Anyone know a solution?

Here's the set up . . . Our database has multiple 'buttons' with various scripts attached to each, and there is only one script step in each - which is GTRR Showing only related records matching current record only. The related record and button is being displayed in a portal. Here's the fault . . . Click on the button and the user is taken to the first layout, and to the most recent record on the layout they had visited. Hey all, I'm hoping to get some help with this - I just got the job of maintaining a rather old FMP databse that we are using at work, and while I am pretty well aquainted with RDBMS in general, I'm a complete filemaker novice and this is throwing me for a loop. In a particular report, when switching to preview mode, the system just sort of sits there for sometimes up to 10 minutes and then exits back out to browse mode. It never actually gets to preview. Hey All, I'm just cleaning up my file references from a recent port to FM8. All my files are in two folders, a main folder and a nested folder "support databases". I just cleaned up the main folder file references to all relative references, so calls to files in the main folder, from a file in the main folder, are file:myFile and all calls to the support folder are file:supportdatabases/myFile so far so good. Now I need to clean up the support databases folder. However, I'm not sure how to do a relative file reference UP a folder level? I have a collection of general FileMaker files that I combine to create a specific solution, with a master Welcome file with "links" to the other files. The "links" actually perform a common Activate script in each of the subordinate files. A have been customizing the Welcome file for each specific solution. When I try to update v8.01 to 8.2 The program tells me it has installed correctly but when I try to open FM8 it is now plan Fimlmaker 8 - No longer advanced. I am definatly downloading the right update file direct from the Filemaker website. I have downloaded the file twice and tried twice with the same results. Has anyone else got the same problem.

I would like my script to insert a file into a container field. The steps I have are: 1. save the file to c:attachments (the file is from an email attachment, using PC Computing's Outlook manipulator). This step works fine. 2. insert the file I just saved into a container field. no matter what I do, the insert file step comes up with a dialog box. It must not be resolving the path. Although the variable "a_path" is correct. In the filepath dialog I have: filewin:&$a_path where $a_path = c:attachmentsfilename.doc Are there any obvious gotcha's that I should know?

Hi folks, I wonder if somebody can help me out with this problem. I have a record with a "new only portal". I've set the layout to not save changes automaticly because I want the user to push a button to create the new record. But if the user click on the background FileMaker asks if he wants to save. Is there a trick to avoid that?

The "Recovery" command seems to be a hidden or at least not well documented or talked about. My understanding is that Recovery is used to repair corrupted indexes. Is that correct? When using Recovery, does it also pack the tables? What generally causes an index corruption in FM? How can one avoid this (what are some of the "gotchas")? Any tips or suggestions about the Recovery program. I created a Recovery command that a user can run from a shortcut. It recovers all data files. I got filemaker pro 8 advanced about a week ago and I cannot get it to install. I have a powerbook 1.67 ghz w/ osx 10.4.5. I mount the file then start the install everything goes ok, I enter the serial as asked, it accepts the serial then goes to the easy install menu. I then click ok to start the install and it starts. It gets about 25% done then stops without any error message and goes back to the easy install menu. The last file that displays as installing is openssl. It then just becomes a loop. If you click install again it goes to the install and gets about 25% and then goes back to the easy install menu. I think it may be the software, but I tried downloading the t…

Sometimes when I open my database it seems to flicker like the screen is being redrawn several times per second. It drives my eyes nuts. Seems to happen in particular with layouts taht have portals. Sometimes a reboots seems to fix it but it does reoccur. Anyone run into this? Thanks in advance.

The scriptmaker menu is greyed out and any button that uses a script will not work. Also the import menu is greyed out. This behavior started after I reverted to a back up file. I reverted to a back up because every computer crashed when I went to a certain record. (by crashed I mean sat there with a spinning globe of death) After going to the back up the corrupted record was gone and crash problem solved. My temporary solution is to move the file off the server and host without a server. All scripts work ok under those circumstances. I have not yet set up my security so everyone, even guest have full access.

How can you tell which serial number is a 5 pack license and single license? Do they print it on the actual serial number sticker? Hi All. Sometimes when running FMP and your system crashes it leaves you with a corrupted database. When the faults aren't severe you get the "checking for unused blocks" window the next time you try to startup the database. For a file of around 50 GB that will take about one hour so thats pretty much ok. (It takes longer to restore a backup of the file) If the errors are more profound you are prompted to RECOVER the file. Now here is where the sh*t starts. In my notion any databasefile extending about 2-3 GB trying to recover from a crash results in an "unable to recover" message. So far I have circumvened this by keeping some backup copies…
