I am working on a DB to help me organize some of my marketing coordinator tasks at a construction company. I have a pretty good start in terms of my concept but im starting to think that I may be painting myself into a corner. Description: The DB holds information about projects, entities(clients), and contacts. I am using join tables to handle the many-many relationships. For example an entity can have many contacts and projects associated with it and projects themselves can have many contacts associated. It would be nice to also have the ability to relate many entities with a single project. For example architect, engineer, owner, operator... Question: I a…

I've checked the incompatibility view for the scripts and they do not indicate any compatibility issues. I'd like some help in resolving this problem. Please advise on how to proceed.

I took on a project to set up a dbf file in FileMaker at work and I'm in over my head. It's due this week and I'm scrambling for help. Essentially there are 30 records. I took one of the FM "templates" and tried to modify the fields with field names to fit the information that I'm collecting. I've added some fields that weren't there. The first record is perfect that I entered. However when I went to enter the 2nd record I noticed that some of the fields don't change they still have the data from the first record. I'm assuming I have to create a new field for each record? Not sure. It is a tab that has an embedded website link. This is for state data so I wanted eac…

Please help, I'm helping a plant manager switch from a paper and pencil template to Excel tracking of attendance. I've developed the spreadsheets that track the attendance exceptions for about 50 employees. The problem with a spreadsheet is that it is cumbersome for a beginner in Excel to add new employees to the existing spreadsheets. I need help getting started with FMP 11 Pro to track the attendance. Is there a template that leads the way into this process? There are three spreadsheets, one for each half year and the summary for the entire year. I've attached a screen capture of the "First Half Year" SS to show the tracking data and typical fields being tr…

My wife's PT clinic does all patient docs by hand. I'm looking for a solution that provides input forms with dropdowns and checkboxes, and can print a report that is formatted exactly like their current reports (hospital and medicare prescribed formats). Some freetext entry is inevitable. I'm imagining an iPad in the room with the patient and wireless printer in the other room. The hospital does not support a larger network with EMR. This would have to be a local network only just to support the printing of reports.

I'm looking for someone that can design a filemaker DB for a custom framing shop. One of the existing sample invoicing databases could be modified to meet the need. It need not be overly pretty (no custom graphics, etc). Just a basic customer database with invoices added under each customer. In place of the standard invoicing fields that are typically present which are indexed by product number we're looking more for a free-form entry with fields like the following: Quantity, Description, Frame Style, Frame Size, Matte Color 1, Matte Color 2, Matte Color 3 etc.. we can get more into the fields of the actual order form later. Overall it's not that different from the e…

[i posted this yesterday but I chose the wrong forum] I'm switching my company over to paperless invoicing via laptops this year. It's a seasonal business and I've just learned of filemaker not to long ago and I'm starting to get busy again. I'm using the invoicing solution based on the VTC.com tutorials by John Osborne. Anyways, I've modified the solution to my needs and I need someone to incorporate a few features that I've been having trouble with and I'm basically out of time trying to figure it out on my own. Naturally I will provide my current solution with admin password so you can modify it. This work looks easy to me and will probably only take …

I thought I was a pretty good novice at coming up with simple FM databases until I tried to figure out relationships! LOL I've been sitting here for three hours now and can't get it to do what I need. I'm hoping someone would like to volunteer to help me out. All I need is a simple relational database to track individual pages from the Census records, with the ability to list some of the names on each page (that would repeat on other pages/other years). (For instance, my grandfather Neal might appear in 5 census pages, so he'd appear once in Layout 1 and on 5 different census pages in Layout 2). It would be like this: Table/Layout 1 Person ID #, Last Name…

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and the forum as well. So thank you in advance to any/all that respond. I have hit an impasse. Over the past few months I have been designing and creating from scratch a brand new database. However, there are some things that I just cannot do. I used FM many years ago but never to this extent and never have I created an entire database. With that said, I have a little bit of work that needs to get done and I am, quite honestly, tired of wasting so many days, weeks and months trying to figure this out on my own. Trial and error is great and a necessary process but at some point you gotta ask for help. So here I am. I am lo…

I am helping out my high school reunion committee plan for our upcoming reunion. We're collecting our classmate's data and need to have a page that lists those people we don't have information about, we're calling them missing. Classmates are sending us their contact details and I'm putting that into a FileMaker database served by FileMaker Server Advanced 11. The database lists every person listed in our yearbook, and those people who have send their contact details have additional fields populated. Therefore it is very easy to see who is missing and who we've found. I want a single PHP page that lists the missing people, and as new classmates' data are adde…

Would any of you consider donating about 3 hours of consulting to this military project? I'm not sure if this is the best category to post this but it's a generic request. I'm currently working on a national fundraising tour designed to raise $1.8 million for the families of the 154 fallen Canadian troops as well as the thousands of injured soldiers, sailors and aircrew. This tour will travel across Canada for one year and will bring Canadians together to honour, remember and celebrate our troops. And of course to raise funds. As you can imagine, developing a tour of this magnitude (over 200 stops) requires a database and I've got a good relational DB wel…

Hi. I use ODLink (www.odlink.com) which is a filemaker application for eye doctors. I also use infusionsoft (www.infusionsoft.com) customer relationship management software. I want filemaker to update my infusionsoft database (using the infusionsoft API I presume via zippscript) in several ways. After checking out vitually all the Mac OSX programs out there, I still can't find one that does exactly what I want, which seems to be pretty simple. I'm a music producer. I get hired by clients. In turn I hire musicians. I need to invoice the client for jobs. I do not need to invoice them for the costs I pay out (musicians, equipment, etc) on a given project. So I need a database that: 1 Allows me to invoice the client 2 Allows me to record payments made to musicians without billing those to the client. 3 And....here's the big one...I want to be able at year's end to look at totals for each musician, or for each category of expense.…

Hi, I'm maybe overthinking this, and hoping for insights or a solution from the forum. The situation: a fairly non-technical artist whose artwork I have been managing manually for years. Three things need to happen: storing info about the art (paintings, prints, sculptures) providing download and access to photos she takes storing high-res and color-corrected copies of photos I'm thinking I can make a Filemaker database for the first part, which would include lots of metadata about the work, who bought it, # of prints in edition, etc. I could teach her to use iP…

It's been many years since I posted on these forums, and it's good to seem them alive and well. I'm currently working on a very interesting project that draws some influence from FileMaker. We are looking for a few FileMaker experts who have JavaScript experience to help us define, hammer on, document, test, use and extend various parts of the project. The project does not actually involve any FileMaker work, but we'd ideally like to find people who've experienced both the joy and pain of advanced FileMaker development, who have pushed it to its limits and beyond, who have craved for more, and sometimes forced it to happen through incredible feats of AppleScrip…

Is there any FM developers local to the Illawarra NSW Australia that can come out and give us a quote to help address/solve a database addition to our existing one? We are a small nonprofit that has been happily using a homespun FM database to manage our members and fundraising for years. We are now also using a email blast service for email marketing. But we feel like we are missing out because our fundraising info doesn't play nice and talk with the wealth of info generated by our email blast service. Does anyone make anything that would make it relatively easy to pull down info from the email blast service into our FM database and vicea versa? I'm pretty good at FM scripting, and our email blast service (which happens to be www.icontact.com) has an API, but the API is jibberish to me. I would be happy to change to …

I hope this is the right location for this question. I am a subscriber to the ISO Filemaker magazine. There is a technique I want to use in my current db (PDF populating). The question I have is how do I incorporate this solution to my current db? I know I can import the tables, but do I manually have to re-create the relationships? What about layouts? Same thing (I have FM Pro 11 Advanced). Sorry for the newb'ish question, but I've never tried to import another solution... I've written it all on my own in the past. thank you!

I am looking for a mentor to help me with FileMaker's PHP API. I have the video series "FileMaker 9 & PHP Foundations" by Lance Hallberg and several articles by Johnathan Stark. For the most part things are going fine, albeit slow. However, I am stuck on authentication. Also, my current code is procedural, which is fine. However, I would like to eventually use an MVC architecture. Please note, I am not interested in PHP frameworks at the moment - just a simple MVC architecture in order to help me understand this method of coding. I would like to develop a mentor/student relationship. Please email me at [email protected] with your rates and exper…

We’re hoping to roll out changes in an iterative, SCRUM-style fashion. You should have: • minimum of two years’ experience as a FileMaker developer …

Greetings, I am new to Filemaker and a relative novice at digital database construction. I am working on an archival project at a small nonprofit arts organization called Spindleworks in Brunswick Maine and chose Filemaker because of it multimedia capability. Most of the items in the archives are boxes of fabric art and Scrapbooks. I couldn't really find the appropriate template out of the preset menu so I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations for how to set up a custom template for a small archival database that includes photographs and other digital media as well as regular data. If I'm in the wrong forum please point me in the right direction :P

Hi, I am newish to Filemaker,I used it on an entry level a few years back for job dockets, but thats about my limit. I have been searching the web for solutions for an Artwork Management System. 1 server that runs Filemaker and contains an Artwork Repository. My client can log on through the web, create a new job docket, upload their artwork and fill in the necessary fields. The docket gets emailed to me while the file is placed in a folder called "Supplied File" inside a folder named using a docket number and _ the files part number. When I work on the artwork, I can upload the new artwork (PDF) for the client to view on a web PDF viewer. …

I have the Lending Library template and as i was checking items out today, some items will not check out. The script works and brings up the date due cal, time due and reminder date cal, however after that the item does not appear in the items on loan listing, and it does not show that the item is checked out in the bottom of the asset page. The only difference (I think) is that the items that won't check out appear to be items that were imported from an excel spreadsheet. Do i have to unlock them, or???

I'm looking for a solution that will allow teachers to sign up for our computer labs and reserve the lab for a given date and timeslot. I need the system to lock that timeslot for that lab once the teacher signs up for it. I also need them to be able to quickly paruse the calendar and see which time slots are available for each lab. I've downloaded the free SeedCode calendar, but that isn't really a resource scheduler, and it allows for redundant entry. I basically need library check-out functionality. (The book isn't available if it's been checked out.) Any tips or suggestions?

I have a solution that makes crates in sizes anywhere from about 1'x1'x1' to 100+'x20'x20'. A crate panel is constructed somewhat like the wall on a home using 4'x8' plywood and 2"x4" lumber but there are options to orient plywood sideways rather than the usual requirements of orienting it vertically. There is also a restriction of a minimum size that a piece must be such as 16" or larger. As would be expected, there's a bit more to understand than this but that covers basic variations. Please refer to the attached crate panel diagram and script snippet. The crate panel diagram reflects the most complex panel due to the rotation of some plywood. The script shoul…

Requirements are that members be able to edit their own contact info, and that we can send mailing/news notifications based on group membership roles. This is a relatively small job (I think). I work at Acadia Divinity College and we are running a database of information for our students. We would like to hire someone to help us make the database look nicer and be more functional. Based on the info in the database we create reports and statistics. The database has already helped us a lot as compared to the previous system, but we are fairly certain it could be doing much more for us and we need someone with expertise in the matter. I have some more information I can give, but will reserve that for further correspondence with those who are interested. thanks, Danny

Hi. I am a recovering FileMaker developer. Looking to delegate the "upversioning" of a FM6 solution to FM10. Currently this solution runs a yoga studio. Because it's FM6 and Mac OS X 10.6, there are constant crashes. The relationships are relatively straight forward. I am open to suggestions. I can also send an unlocked version to help determine the scope of work. Cheers.

I know there is an elegant solution to this problem... just can't seem to find it! I have an FMP interface into an Oracle table via ODBC which contains a number of text-entry fields. These fields are ultimately delivered to an online application and some are used for display, others for things like searching and sorting. During data entry, users are entering or pasting special (high-ASCII) characters from their keyboards. Depending on the field, these need to be converted. In some fields they need to be "flattened" (ex: á changed to a)... and in others they need to be changed to a valid HTML character entity (ex: á changed to ampersand+aacute;). Right now, I have On…
