What I hoped for was to have everything on one Windows server (single-server installation) with a control panel (Plesk prefered) and ESS but what I'm finding is that I can't because control panels for Windows seem to affect any mod rewrite and I consider that critical. Hello, I am using FileMaker Server 9v3 with Mac OS X Server v10.5.4. I have observed that FileMaker Server will not send email notifications on port 587. I can get it to work with port 25, but port 587 does not work. This does not work despite the fact that when I click "Test SMTP Settings..." in the admin console, I receive a prompt stating "The SMTP test was successful." No, it wasn't! Anyway, if anyone knows how to have FileMaker Server 9v3 send emails via port 587, I would appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Hi all, my server is behing a airport extreme router, Port forwarding is all done, DBs are hosted no problem, everything works so far but one thing, when opening the server admin console (hosted at home for test purposes)from the office, In the admin console, if i click on any question mark symbol to get help, the web page fetched is the local Ip of the server(10.0.1.xxx)instead of using the Httpd domain name. it looks like if the Java APP only gets the current ip instead of the httpd.conf domain name any idea? would a vhost solve this? I just upgrade my FileMaker to 9.0. But I found one problem when I used Get(SystemIPAddress) in my script. My Ethernet IP addres is 10.0.82.20, and Airport IP Address is 10.0.82.21. When I use this function in FileMaker 8.0, it got a correct IP address for both IP. But, after I upgraded to FileMaker 9.0, I use the same script, it get a wrong IP Address which is 61.140.3.66. So, did anyone help me to solve the problem?

server 8, client 8: if left for even 10 minutes without activity then related, server files close for the client. In user setup the "close file on inactivity" is OFF - any ideas on this? It happens on a variety of machines, all Windows, but never on my Mac, which is not on the clients local network but at my office. Howard

I know some of you have opinions/thoughts on the kinds of machines that FMS9 should be running on. The organization I work for is deciding between using a macmini or an xserve. I'm aware that some of you will say "get an xserve...what is your data worth" while others will say "a mac mini has worked fine for us". I'd like to hear from both of you, and would love to know the reasons why a macmini isn't the way to go. there's 6-12 people in this organization. has someone written an article on this anywhere?

We have a v5.5 server and had to go to our backups due to errors in data input. When we went to open the back up versions we noticed the dates were a couple of months old and when we tried opening the files we get the error message "Error occurred unable to open file". The files are set to multi-user and we were able to open them locally. We have tried a recovered version and a copy of version and the same thing occurs.

Hi everyone, Our server machine lost connectivity (FMS9). It was re connected and re booted. Since then, the admin console will not launch. When the shortcut icon is clicked, it will show the launch screen initially and then it goes away and nothing. No error, just nothing. I tried opening IE and typing http:the ip :16000 and it freezes. This happens on the host machine as well as any remote pc I try. What could possibly be causing this? Thanks

WPE was working fine until a power outage killed the server unexpectedly. After restarting, the database server works fine, but WPE acts as if it is starting, then after a few minutes dies. Running the server deployment picks up that IIS is installed, but fails on the last step of configuring with the .jpg error message attached. I've checked the Windows Logs but they don't contain any WPE errors. I've double checked enabled anonymous access in IIS with the user account IUSR_FRANSCORPSERVER. Hi! I'm having some odd issues with the Admin Console having just installed FileMaker Server 9 on my 10.4.10 xserve and noticed a couple of posts referring to "fms_9.01v1_R2". Where can I get this to see if uninstalling what I have and reinstalling this works? (My general problem is that I uninstalled Server 8, then installed server 9 -- I could configure Server 9 -- until I restarted. After I restarted, I can log into the server admin console app, but it says my server isn't started -- but the computer *is* serving files!) Apologies in advance for what may well be a very dumb question, but how do I determine which version of FMP server I have installed? In my admin console it says version 9.0.1.140, but I don't understand how this relates to v9.0v1, 2, 3, etc.?

The database will be very easy to implement, because it's mainly a address-book, but the question is, how to set up and what to buy regarding licensing and serving and stuff: We have about eight clients involved, at least two of them need to be able to edit the database. The installation seems to run without any problems, and then I'm taken to a web page that is supposed to start the admin console. Hi FM Forums, first post here... be gentle I'm using FM Server 8 on a XP Pro box and serving a data base (.fm7) from it. I need to get FM Server to close the database at a predetermined time and then open it again after an hour. Would I have to write 2x scripts for this (one to close the DB and one to open it again) and use the task schedular in FM Server to run them after one another or is there another way of doing this? I'm clueless as how to go about writing these scripts if that is the only way to do it. So any examples (or links to) will be much appreciated.

The prime rules of backups are "1. make them, and 2. test them out". Well, in doing this, I realized today that one of my filemaker files (hosted on FMSA8) is corrupt -- when I try to open one of the daily backup files locally, I get the dreaded "The access privileges have been damaged or possibly tampered with" message. If I go back to the original file which is hosted on FMSA8, and open Accounts & Privileges, it opens up fine, but I notice that one of my accounts is blank, and I can't edit or delete it. OK, brand new system: Xserve with Leopard Server 10.5.4 installed and fully updated via Software Update. I have about 30 computers running filemaker. we are on Windows XP. We purchase HP DX5150 computers. We have been having problems, and I'm trying to eliminate Filemaker as the source of the problem. Heres the senario: A worker will be using the computer's network resources (Filemaker, Outlook2003 w/ E-mail server, Network drives, servers and shared folders, etc.) Then the system will appear to freeze up. Outlook will have a "disconnected" status. When I open the Network Status from the system tray, the sent packets is in the trillions!!! We run two daily backups: 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm. We have saved and compacted on an irregular basis in the past to re-establish the backups to a verifying state (irregular being anywhere from two weeks to three days). I'm starting to see a reduction in time between db's failing verification -- currently once a day (12:00 passes, 4:30 fails, then I save and compact). Is this the sign of a corrupted file/database? or some other process/failure? What steps should I be taking to rectify this? I realize that may be a wide-ranging question, any input is appreciated. Hi, I'm running FMS 9.03 on a Dual Core Xeon Mac running Mac OS Serrver 10.4.11. I just installed an OS Security update (don't know which one because my update log is empty...maybe because I zapped the PRAM?) and now I can't use the FM Server Admin Console. I keep getting the message "Unable To Launch FM-Server.local". I can still manage FMS via Terminal, so it appears that the problem lies with the Admin Console. I've used Disc Utility to repair permissions and I've rebooted twice, once while zapping the PRAM, but nothing has worked thus far. Anyone have any suggestions? I have a solution hosted on an iMac using Server 9. When I use my Client app (on the same iMac) it runs fine, until I try to connect to my hosted solution, when it gives this message: "The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of FileMaker Pro. Please refer to the License Key section of your software documentation for further instructions. License key conflict occurred with user [host name]. I was asked today to clone a database with no data in it. I thought this would be an easy task but it turned out to be very tough. Here is what I attempted, note that I never found the solution. I tried to copy and paste the database file itself, however when I opened it I couldn't do anything, it was not modifiable, despite the fact that I am logged in as an Admin. I checked the privileges on the file itself and everyone had read & write (strange?). Anyways so I canned that idea and tried something else. Hello All, I've got a client that is having issues hosting FileMaker Pro over their WAN. The server physically resides at their central office and they have five satellite offices that connect to the filemaker server. As of a week ago, one of the offices was unable to connect to the server. After hours of troubleshooting, we discovered that the route was good between the offices. WIth that established, I then configured the router to point to a FMP client (That was hosting a file) rather than the server machine. The office having trouble was able to connect over the WAN to my FM Client. I then went back to the server and tried turning off SSL and reconfigured …

I have been trying to find a problem with the admin console on my server for some time. I have now managed to isolate the problem to the MobileMe system update mechanism. The problem Admin Console launches, but reports that the database server is not running. It reports that WP is running. In fact, the database server IS running, as I can happily connect to it with clients and IWP clients also. Admin Console reports this problem whether launched on a G4, G5, Intel, 10.4 or 10.5 system. We have a FM file that we share to other countries where they log in and update the file. This file is sitting in our server using FM server 8. This file has been access by other users last week but for no other reason it suddenly close for sharing. If im in the FM Server Admin and check the Status of the file under the Databases it is CLOSED. No one change this from Status Normal. I tried to changed it to Normal (Open) but it does not changed. I have been running FMS 5.5 for several years with no problem. I just did a apple security 2008-004 update and now I cannot get FMS to initialize. I receive the following message in the log. "TCP/IP network initialization failed: the TCP/IP address is already in use or an address could not be obtained." I am working on getting FMP9 up and running but that may take a few weeks. I run FMS on an older G4 450 that up until this point has not given me any problems. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I got a question for Mac users... Is there a way to place a file icon in the dock of a file that is hosted on an FM server? I want my users to be able to directly open the file from the dock, instead of opening FM, then Open Remote File and so on. Thank you in adavance! Mike

Since the previous topics didn't quite answer my question I think I will post another topic about my issue. I have a FM8 script scheduled to run every night. Most of the time it runs okay. Even if I run it manually it will work fine. However sometimes when it runs it will halt and give a license conflict error message. But since the server has a legit license and no one else is around to use FM how is it that the error is occurring? I come back the next day and run the script manually and it works fine. The logs don't show anything untoward so how am I supposed to troubleshoot this problem?

Hello All, I am having a little trouble getting FM Server 5 to start on Windows Server 2003 (standard edition). Whenever I try and start the FM server service I get a message telling me that I can't start FM on the local computer and that it's a service-specific error code 50. I have tried stopping some of the other applications running on the server such as SQL Server, as I thought it could be a port related problem, but this didn't seem to work.

I have exceeded the 125 file limit to host on Filemaker Server 8. Unfortunately 95% of the databases are still required and more will appear every year. Can anyone tell me if there is a way around this or can I have 2 hosts on the one server? Thanks

after all the installation and configuration, the server gives me a test page, in web publishing section, both IWP and XSLT are displaying the page perfectly, however, the PHP web publishing gives me a blank page in the Safari. I'm running FMS on an old mono-core G4 machine and I'm looking to upgrade our hardware. Does someone have information regarding FMS ability to make use of multiple processors? For example, if FMS has requests from multiple clients will distribute the workload or simply load it up onto a single processor? What about other tasks (like Find requests), that logically should be able to make use of multiple processors to improve performance?

Hello. I have reviewed the suggested documentation to allow a user to only delete the records on a table that they have created. Unfortunately, I just can't get it to work. What I did was add a field with a calculation. Set the calculation to Get (User). In the privilege set I customized the permission to go to limit the delete to the calculated field. I've tried multiple versions of this but I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks! Donna

I have been using FM9 Server for a couple of months now and have been using the scheduled script function quite a bit to automate tasks. I am currently working on a script that checks quantity levels of stock, creates a order, saves in Pdf format and sends it via email to a supplier. I am using a email plugin on my FM server which works well. The problem is that the 'save as PDF' is not web-compatible and therefore I cannot use it in a scheduled script. Is there any way round this as all my other script lines are server friendly. thanks

Using Filemaker Server 9, I'm currently running backups to a USB Lacie HD. However, I'd like to run an additional backup to another volume on the network. Is it possible to send a backup to a volume on the network (e.g. another XServe or Computer)? If so, how? I'm pretty sure that I'm entering the correct desired Backup Path in the Admin Console... but I cannot get it to validate the path for the life of me. Any ideas? I'm trying to get it to go to my network volume titled "Network"

I have 21 DB's running on an NT4 Workstation with FMPro Server 5.5. Client are able to interact with this DB's no problem. When I move the DB's over to an XP Workstation running the same Server Software, clients are unable to see 7 of the DB's. All I did was copy and past the DB's from computer to computer.. This is a similar problem to the one listed by Guy B, only in my case, FM is slow in several areas. It's slow to start up & open files, slow when displaying lists, slow to execute scripts... I'm guessing there's no easy answer to this question, since there are so many possibilities: we're running old software (client 6, server 5.5) on an old OS (Win 2K Server), and there are intricate scripts and 100+ fields in most of our DBs. We are having some major issues with FMS 9.03. Last week it crashed on us. The files just closed. We went to a backup copy of the files just in case, and today it crashed again. We have server running on a dedicated box with more than sufficient hardware requirements. Quad Processor 72GB 3G PLUG SAS 15K RPM HD 4GB RAM etc... etc... The users have been complaining about the speed and coffee cups for the last two months. There is nothing unusual about the number of users or data traffic. Hello, I am tinkering with a trial of FMS Advanced on 10.5.4. I get through the deployment assistant, the IWP and PHP test pages run fine, everything looks good in the Admin Console. Now, when i launch PHP Site assistant, it cannot find the publishing engine. No matter how I list the server, via IP, DNS, etc it keeps saying "Publishing engine is not running on the specified server." Seems odd since 5 seconds before the PHP Test page worked fine. I've tried this on 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 on both client and Server versions of OSX. Any ideas? Thanks

Firstly when in my remote office connection to server admin console works fine. (FYI the two offices are connected via a hardware VPN). Probs arise elsewhere. 1. I have a client who recently upgraded from a single-machine FMSA8 deployment to a dual-machine FMS9 deployment. We have spent nearly a month trying to get Custom Web Publishing up and running, but we keep receiving "Maximum number of web sessions exceeded (Error 956)" errors whenever we make a query. I have restarted both servers and redeployed the WPE numerous times, but this has not solved the issue. Many of the articles I have read on this subject state that this is a Firewall problem, but they never say what the problem is exactly. Hi I have been using PHP for only a short while and have not touched xsl or xml. I need to automate server9 to send an email on a regular basis to the same address'. I have found and used the xsl style sheet that that graham sprague wrote (http://www.grahamsprague.com/server_side_email/server_side_email.zip ) and this works very well. But I cannot work out how to call this from within the server. I tired to create a script that called a page with a webviewer in it and giving it the url but this did not work unless I went to the database and went to that layout. Is anyone using a VPN connection to allow multiple users to connect to Filemaker Server? Our hospital IT department was thinking this was a more secure approach. I'm not familiar with VPN connection (most of our clients connect from PC's) to our Mac Server.

Since applying the original 9.0v3 update we have experienced what seems to be a memory leakage, such that we need to reboot the server every three weeks or so. I have come to the decision that we will need to reinstall the software, although some have suggested that we install the latest complete trial version and then enter our valid serial number. Beyond the need to get our IT people involved, my biggest concern is having the reconfigure the backup and other settings on the Server. Can anyone advise where this information is stored? weak sauce people, weak sauce... I have 20-25 machines that due to the constraints of a legacy system must share their own databases at any given time. I have had no problem connecting between them up until now and hardware/software-wise there are three groups of identical systems. I have one and only one system that cannot see any other local hosts on the FM network, neither does it appear as a local host to other users. Filemaker sharing is enabled and the databases themselves are set to be visible. The firewall is set to allow FM sharing and in fact, I have simply turned off the firewall with the same result. Since updating FileMaker Server Advanced 9.0v2 to v3 via the standard updater, I have had a couple of instances where: users get messages asking them to log into databases (when we use external authentication and no passwords are required), the same users appear more than once in the Server Console or users remain listed in the console after they have exited all databases, users' screens freezing and them being booted out of the system, and a general loss of control of the server via the Java Console. When FileMaker Server starts up (when the computer boots), I get an error message sent to me by email from FileMaker Server: Error 92 [servername] Could not complete operation on database "Databases" because it is not currently open. Last night (Jun 11, 08) IT installed an MS OS patch to all desktops and servers. Apparently they rebooted the server. Today, when I opened the Remote listing of Server-supplied files from a client machine, I don't see one of the files. 14 of the 15 show. No one can see that particular file from any client. Two or more clients had that file open when the server rebooted. Opening the Databases folder on the server shows me that the 365MB file with its 75,000 records is there. (Whew!) If I drag it to my desktop, it opens. Why can't the server display the file? The "Don't let the server Remote display this file" box is clear. I ran Recover on the file and …

My working 9.03 xx with the latest patch to work on 10.5.2 has all of a sudden dropped the admin password.This happened before the patch was applied and altho all services are running I can't login anymore because of "incorrect password" what happened and why,no-one changed it How do i reset it please where is it stored on OSX

Hello all, I installed FMS9 on Windows 2003 Server a few weeks ago. All is well except that I cannot open the Admin Console without providing a username and password. With Server 7 as long as I was a member of the FMSAdmin group I could open the console directly as it used Windows authentication. With FMS9 this is no longer the case. I have created an FMSAdmin group and made myself a member and I have enabled "Allow members of the fmsadmin group to login" but I still have to supply a username and password to use the Admin Console. Maybe this is how it is supposed to be. Anybody know for sure? Thanks!

I have several Filemaker databases I need to be able to access via JDBC. I have FM9 advanced Server installed with ODBC/JDBC turned on. I have followed the instructions for creating a priveledge set and granting the ODBC/JDBC extended priveledge. I have created a user on the file. I upload the file to the FM9 server and open it successfully. I then connect to it using JDBC and this works fine too. I then repeat the exact same steps for a second database and I cannot connect to it - I get a 'no such account' error. Hello, I'm running FMS9 on OSX-Server 10.5 I have a script that uses an apple-script to create a folder on the server HDD to store client information like PDF's, emails etc. On creating a new client, a folder is made with the client name and number. Previously I ran FMS9 on a stand-alone PC (non-server) and I could just list "macintosh HD:rootname:". When switching to OSX Server I ofcourse had to place these in the "Users:Servername:Public" folder to be accessible to other computers. My question is, what is the path to this folder? I'm currently in a situation where I've, basically, just jumped in head-first into the world of FileMaker and Macs with a new position (as of Monday). I'm an experienced Windows and Linux administrator, but I'm fairly unfamiliar with both the PPC arch and OS X. I mention PPC because I've currently got a 1.25GHz G4 Powermac with 1.5G RAM running FileMaker Server 9. Is there any compatibility issues with FM 5.5 and Windows XP. We have Filemaker 5.5 server for mac and accessing files with PC's and mac. I am being told records are changing and disappearing on their own. I believe it is human error, but they say it can't be. Thanks in advance.

Our company is using FM Server 9 to host our files via remote access over the internet. We are experiencing extremely slow speeds when opening files and navigating through layouts, loading value list drop down, etc. We've tried removing various components, images, complex relationship, extraneous fields/scripts/layouts/tables and find no increase in speed. FM server 9 is running on Windows SBS 2003 FM Pro 9 client is installed on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server to allow remote clients to access the database. On the local lan, only 7 users are running FM Pro. On the LAN, it runs with good performance. I'm having trouble determining the bottleneck within my terminal server configuration. I understand that filemaker server can do complete database backups and incremental backups, I can't seem to find anywhere to tell it in the scheduling backup section what type of backup i want it to do, anyone know off hand?

This is my 5th install and the first to have this problem: When the Admin Console tries to open I get 2 messsages: "Unable to start database engine" and then "Unknown error" I have verified that the Apache server is running. This install is on a new Mac Mini (Intel) with all the latest updates.

Ok, I'm new to FM, so I'm having a little trouble understanding. I've got FM 9, and I've created an Inventory database. I'd like to store the database on a server, then have myself, along with 2 other people be able to edit it. Is it possible to save it on the server, then open it from a server? I see a similar option, although I believe it is to open a database from FM Server, the application. I currently have a linux server. Is there any way I could do what I'm looking for? Hi, I wasn't able to find a similar post regarding this which is surprising since we have it appear for the majority of our clients... On closing FileMaker Server Admin the following error is displayed: "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in. It is recommended that you shut down and restart MMC." Since we are in the process of closing FMS Admin anyway, this is already shutting down MMC. For this particular example our client is running Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard X64 Edition, Service Pack 1. No problems like this for the last year of hosting. But, today one of my clients locked the file. He gets an error that says: "The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of FileMaker Pro. Hi, I hope you can help us on our issue. We developed a FM database which needs to be shared by our users. One japan user, who is our vendor, needs to access this FM file but cannot access it. This user can access our server by getting other files. But when it comes to accessing this FM file, they cannot access it. Other countries within the network can access but this vendor outside our network cannot access. Did we miss something here? I'm using FMS 9 and have not used the server software before. I loaded it a few months ago, but, have been working on my new application and not spent time with it. I felt it was time to upload the databases to the server side and went to start the console. Hi guys Running FMPserver 5.5 Lately it has been disappearing from the open remote window. If it is accessed directly on the server, stopped then restarted it appears again. This has only been happening irregularly in the last month. Any suggestions on what the problem is (ie the server itself?) or solutions? It has performed OK for 6-7 years on the same server.

I have just purchased FM9 Server for my company and it is already starting to pay off in terms of performance. One of the features I am keen to use is FM script triggering via a schedule. I already have a script that prints a thank you letter for sales sold the day before. I would Like FM server to automatically print these out every day. I have set the print setup and print script lines to 'perform without dialog' and I have a printer connected directly to the PC running FM Server. I just keep getting "Script aborted" errors. Has anyone any Ideas why this is not working? thanks

Does anybody know a way to simply back up a working config of FMS9 on Mac, such that you can drop in the settings/deployment to another machine during a migration - without going through the "write all your settings down, then recreate" that the FMS documentation suggests? The /Library/FileMaker Server/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.blahblahblah.plist file seems to have the settings I need (schedules, etc), but so far dropping that in to a new config isn't working crackerjack. Hi all, My question is about automatically running a web incompatible script every night. It would have been possible to use FMSERVER 9, if it was not web incompatible. But, I need to send emails and send email script step is not web compatible. I have been doing this by running a Filemaker file which opens the remote file and runs the script inside that remote file and then automatically closes itself. This has interestingly worked for 2 years in a MacOSX server. I added the File reference only once with usr and pwd, and it did not ask me about that usr and pwd again. A client have FMS 8.04 on one server running Win Server 2003 SP1 and FMSA 8.04 on another server running Win 2003 Server SP2. We have a problem with stability and are hunting for the reason. Documentation says SP1. Are there any known issues with SP2?

So -- I had FMS 9.0v3 running on 10.4.11 without issues. I decided to update the server to 10.5.2, so I uninstalled FMS 9.0v3, updated (in-place) my server to 10.5.2, then installed the Leopard compatible 9.0v3 FMS. Under 10.4.11, I had been using the default locations for the databases and backups -- /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/ After installing 9.0v3 and rebooting -- the databases open in the correct location. Hi! I am aware of the fact that FMI only supports server 2003 standard edition, but one of our presumed customers already has a windows Small business server 2003. Have anybody tried FMS9 with SMB? I am trying to open the FM server 9 admin console on my OSX but to no success. It worked perfectly fine before but when I checked on the server one day this happened. When I double-click on the FMS9 icon, the application icon bounces in my dock twice, disappears, and nothing happens. What could the problem be?

We are using FMS 8.x (latest update) on Mac OS 10.4.11 with 3 databases to serve 5 local FMP 7.x clients all on Macs. Everything was working fine for several months but today only 1 client at a time is able to connect - any of the 5 can connect but only one at a time. We have reinstalled FMS, set all permissions, etc. We opened each file in FMP, after closing FMS, and did a Save As to remove potential corruption. Still no luck. I am told (I am not onsite) that after the Open Remote process at each client a dialog box asks for guest vs. reg. user which is a new occurrence. What is going on and how do we correct it?

I set up a Filemaker 8 Server om Windows XP in the summer of 2006. It has been running peacefully ever since. However, now we need to change the configurations, and neither I nor the Windows server administrator can remember the password we used for the Filemaker Server Admin login. Is there any way to reset the password without having to de- and reinstall the entire server? We have local access to the files of the server. I have a solution hosted by FMS 9 that users login to remotely and when they perform certain actions a script sends an email. I'd like to send the mail from the server side instead of the client side to gain more control over the process. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help!

there is a database file i am trying to place on the server, and when i open the console and open the database it works fine, database status is listed as "normal" however the database does not appear in the "open remote" window with all the others. can add other databases, it is just this one particular file that the server seems to have a problem with. anything you can think of that might be causing this?
