Calculation Engine (Define Fields)

Seems like I should know the answere to this one, but cannot figure it out. Need to compare the value of five fields pub1 - pub5 and determine if they are the same or not. If they are ALL the same then set the value of multipub to the value contained in pub1 - pub5. If they are NOT the same, then set the value of multipub to "multipub". I can do this with a calculation for multipub and it works except for when fields pub2 - pub5 are blank and then the calculation set the value of multipub to "multipub" because the value of pub1 is different than the value of pub2. Hi guys, I'm trying to make a simple system to calculate golf handicaps. The basic calculation is to take the best 10 scores from the last 20 scores of an individual. i would like to do this with relationships & calculations if possible, instead of using a script. I would have a table which holds the scores and a separate table which holds the players. How to find the last 20 games (scores) that a player played, and then how to select the 10 lowest scores from that list without using a script?

In earlier versions of filemaker if one had a field that had a radio button with 2 choices like Yes or No from a value list all you had to do was insert text "yes" and the button was filled in. I have tried set field , and insert text, insert calculated results and none of these things work. I want to be able to make a calculation or script to fill in some of these types of fields. I can't make it work now. I want to paste the word "yes" and have it highlight the "yes" radio button.

What would the calculation be to get the number of discreet values in a field over several records? I'm building a database to keep track of shots in a movie. Each shot has a SceneNumber field that assigns the shot to one of the movie's scenes. If I create a found set of all shots added to the database in a given week, and I want to know how many different scenes are represented in that found set, what would the calculation be? That is, how do I total the number of discreet values in the SceneNumber field across all the records? Thanks!

I know it's been asked several times and I have read all the threads I could find, but heres my question. I have a field named DOB "date of birth" and I have another field named Age when I enter the DOB I want the age to calculate and fill in automatically. From what i have read you need to create a custom function which I have seen several on here. And I understand how and where to create it but what I don't understand is how to apply it to my fields that I want calculated. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would help allot.

I am sure this is so basic, but it is giving me fits. I am trying to set a up a field to autofill data based upon a date. I have a field "Status" that has a value list of "Inactive, Current, Past Due, Updated Ad" I am trying to make the field display "Inactive" if the field "Date Terminated" is less than the current date. I want to be able to override this autofill if needed. I can't seem to get the formula right to do this. I have zero experience in creating formulas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess this is a piece of cake for you people but I've been reading the FMP 8 Help in and out. I need the auto-fill of a calculation of quantity * price. The quantity is defined in a scroll down menu and the price is written in a field next to it. I've tried many times to get it right and though this formula would work: Tshirtquantity * Tshirtprice But nothing happens. What do I do wrong? Many thanks in advance for your time.

Hello Everyone I don't think it is possible in filemaker but maybe in the webviewer box there might be someway to issolate an exact part of a webpage to show up in the viewer. For example I have a webpage that shows a great analog clock in the upper left corner of the web page. I would like to use it in a filemaker application but having trouble issolating it. I have a survey that has 191 questions - each question has 10 possible answers - each group of 10 possible answers are different for each question. I have the list of possible answers so having a db of each answer - paired to each question is not a problem But what I would like is a way to see each answers total for each question so for "Best Local Band" band a) 100 band 5 Band c) 200 band d) 30 etc... for each of the 191 questions. what do I need to do??

I need to get a formula to get the latitude which is up to the second "," in from the right up to the next "," going to the field Latitude and I tried right word but the "-" makes it a problem. Hello- I move around layouts in a script but when I come back to the original layout I have to scroll at the bottom to get it to the way the layout was originally set. Is there anyway to get it back to normal. The upper left corner is always over a little bit and I have to scroll back. I have tried putting in dummy fields that I have to go to but nothing seems to get it back to where it was? I appreciate your help in advance Thanks

Hello All... I want to summarize calculation results from 10 different filemaker 8 files into one Summary File. Each of the 10 files has 500 calculation fields. I have successfully made the Summary File through relationships and calculations to add the major fileds and summarize them on to one sheet in my summary file. But I can't store the fields in my summary file because they reference calculations in other files. This makes the Summary File very heavy and slow to give results (up to 2 minutes waiting). My computer is fast and has plenty of RAM so its not a problem with the computer. It must be in the way I calculate the results. Any ideas??? Gersam

Hello, I have a group of records that needs to be searched to find the records meeting certain criteria...from the found set that meets the criteria, I need to do several random samples of the list, extracting 7 unique records each time. There are many jobs, and each job has many tasks, which may/may not have many sub-tasks, whcih may/may not have many sub-tasks. disregarding the sub tasks. the tasks have an id(not primary key, i also have a serial). that is used to identify that task within that job. i need to have these task numbers unique within a given job. but duplicates may exist outside of this job. OK ladies and gentlemen, The attached picture is out of an estimating program I built. As it stands, the markup field is edited by the user, which then calculates the unit price and the total price. Works great.... Now my user wants to have the flexibility to update either the markup or the unit price and have the other update accordingly. If I put auto enter calcs on both fields, and I update the markup, the unit price updates, but then because the unit price updated, the markup updates again. Is there a way that I can stop the field that was just edited from updating, but still have the other one update correctly?

I want to add a field validation which says that only one record in the database is allowed to have the value 'YES' in the field (or no record has the value 'YES') and all the others must be 'NO'. Can this be done using a calculation to validate the field? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi all, I have set up a field to validate its content through validation by calculation. The validation condition works except not quite the way I wanted it. What I want is upon completion of entry in this field and when tab or return/enter is pressed, the data would have already been validated. As it is now, it only validates after all the data are entered, or click on anywhere (even after the field to be validated has been entered) on the layout other than any field. I want to track the progress that is made with business contacts by creating an entry system that allows the user to type in a comment about a particular time that contact was contacted, then the program date and time stamps that record. I am trying to do a replace field contents with a calc where IF (city=related:cityID, city Name) When I do this though, I get either no change, or if I use the Case function, I get delated field and have to reimport. When I import records from a distributor, if the country field is not USA, the days and months are reversed in the date fields. Instead of mm/dd/yyyy I get dd.mm.yyyy I have two sets of date fields for every record I import, a start date and a closing date. And the non USA dates are made with periods instead of slashes. can I set a script or something so that if it says USA in one field, it doesn’t change the two date fields? but if it does NOT say USA in that field, it switches the dd.mm.yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy in both of the date fields for that record? right now i'm just looking them up and doing a batch replace, but i bet there might be a way to d…

OK, FMP 6! Say we have two datafiles.... one vendors, the other payments... in vendors we have a portal for showing the payments. In a 'status area' (browse mode)... along with date created/by and date modified/by... I'd like to show the total of payments per the vendor who's record we are viewing. Created a "total" subsummary field in payments, and then showed a merge field in vendors - no joy as it totals ALL vendor payments... I just want to show this vendor's payments. Here is the basics of my dilema. edition code(calculation, from another table) + print number(user entered) = image number code(calculation) I need to validate that the PRINT NUMBER for the edition is unique so we do not duplicate print numbers. I have 22 Mod fields to select from. Usually 4 or 5 are selected. In Mod 1 I enter a 1, in Mod 2, a 2, and so on. I have another field called Modification. When I enter a number in a Mod field I want it to appear also in the Modification field. This is my formula, but it's not working. It will enter only two numbers, not the four or five I may need. Also, I need to have a space between each number (for example 1 2 looks like twelve, 12). Case(Mod 1, 1 & Mod 2, 2 & Mod 3, 3 & Mod 4, 4) and on through 22. Surely will appreciate any help.

This has been going on since I installed FM 9... Sometimes when I add images (about every 15th image) FileMaker freezes... I cannot force quit FM9... I cannot run any other programs... It works when I do this via a script, but is there a way to autoenter a calculation into each member of the repeating field? 2. I'm using MSQuery to create a .dqy file that connects Microsoft Word 2003 to FileMaker 8 Server Advanced via ODBC/JDBC and SequeLink. I am using the calculation, Evaluate(Quote(""); CSI Div.), to narrow down the results that appear in one field based on a selection from a previous field. i.e.hypothetical example: First field contains the names of the 50 States; based on which state is selected, the second field displays the names of the counties within that state only. I have a client with traveling sales people. Oftentimes they are accessing the company FM server from different time zones. Currently the FileMaker client is creating timestamps based on the client computer's time zone. My customer wants all of the timestamps to be based on the server's time zone. Is this possible? I realize that I can create a time offset for each user but I was wondering if there is a way to pull the time directly from the server so it does not rely on the user having their computer's time set correctly.

We have a claims database in our insurance agency. We are now scanning (to PDF) all incoming documents. We want to insert/attach these PDFs to their respective claim record in FMP9. A container field only allows one document. Is there a straight forward way to insert multiple document into a single record? Obviously, I could create multiple container fields, but we never know how many we'll need per record, so that won't work. Only other option I can think of would be to create a second FMP9 table that holds a few fileds like Date, Description, Source, etc, and one container field for a single document. Is it possible to select records based on multiples of a particular number? I want to use this in a Case statement. I currently have Case (Subject_ID = 3 or 8 or 13 or 23 or 28; "Mathematics") This works fine. I am just wondering if I can shorten it a bit. What I'd like to do is say "Find every multiple of 5 beginning at 3 and ending at 28." Also, would such a function work with an "or" statement? I am trying to build a simple database to keep account of bank transactions. I have two tables: "TTransactions" and "TRegister" From the table "TRegister" I plan to create new records in "TTransactions". I have set up a relation between the two that seemingly works fine. I have created a portal in "TRegister" for creating records in "TTransactions". Anyhow, I use the function IsEmpty all the time, but what if you want to know if a field is NotEmpty? Is this possible? I have defined the fields that will present the percentages in this fashion; This seems to be correct, however when I look at the report generated I get the following; Note that the percentages stay the same for both schools and especially that they are both wrong. I have been tasked to support a database to track expenses in FM 7.0 that works kind of like an excel spreadsheet. I.e. there is a column of enterable number fields (say e1,e2,e3,e4 etc) and at the bottum is a calc field (Sub) that is defined as e1+e2+e3+e4. The fields are all set to display 2 decimal places, use currency, thousands separator. What is baffling me is that FM cannot seem to add properly on some records. Example e1=0, e2=0, e3=$63.75, e4=$63.75, Sub=$128. Where the heck is the extra $.50 coming from? 63.75+63.75= 127.5 not 128. If it is rounding the .75 up to .8 the total should be 127.6, but it not. I have created a time sheet and am trying to add up duration of time spent on a project and then deducting the total hours from the total project hours. Hi! Each person in my database has a title, and that title determines their eligibility for various important stuff. Each "component" of a title must be tracked seperately, but the official title needs to be a concatenation or amalgamation of the individual components. FM 8.5. I have a complex calculation (field A) that I would like to total in a subsummary part and in a grand subsummary. I find that a Summary function that totals field A does not display properly in the subsummary. Further, a GetSummary (of the summary field) does not display properly in the grand subsummary. Is there a way to total calculation fields for subsummary and grand subsummary parts?

Hi all, I have been playing with 9 and it looks like data validation has changed. I have a date field validation to be any day after today, and before it would say something like the field is not valid with a pop up. Now it changes the date.

Here is the scenario: I have 2 fields: Amount field and Code field, each record is coded A, B, C, D, E, etc…. I created a columnar report with subsummary part that shows subtotals for each code. Now what I am trying to do is show on the report a combination of the above subtotals, like: SubtotalC+SubtotaD, or SubtotalA+SubtotalD-SubtotalE. I just can’t figure out how to grab the subtotals individually and combine them. Help will be very appreciated.

Hello All I have an invoice table, payment table and orders table. All are related. If i create a new invoice it is automatically numbered i.e 192. I have payments table and orders table in the same page. I would like the payments table to automatically numbered as well but with P added to front i.e P192 Same for Orders i.e O192 Any ideas? I created a repeating container field (r = 10) with a graphic representing one, up to ten in the 10th repeating field. Hello I have 2 tables. one being CUSTOMERS with a "customer code" field with a string of 4 letters. I then have a INVOICES table that has a "invoice ID" field. Each time I create a new invoice I would like the "invoice ID" to pull the value from the "customer code" and increment it by 1. for eample CUST0001,CUST0002,CUST0003 where "CUST" is the value from the "customer code" field. Can I modify text that has an object name? Here's my example: 1. The user clicks "new client" button... 2. Red text appears next to one of the fields and tells the user important info... 3. Depending on what the user does, that red text may or may not stay there... I was using a field to display the text... My script simply used the setField command to change the blank (uneditable) to whatever I wanted to say and it worked fine... but this database is eventually going to have a lot of records! hi there, i am having a problem trying to get the count of 2 fields. field1 is a number like: 76 field2 is a number like: 150 both of these fields will be multiple of 51 to 175 or 1026 to 2000. field1 will always be the lower number. as with the example above the answer is 75 (actually 74 but i need to work in 25's... 1 to 25, 26 to 50, 51 to 75... and so on) this is for a color code solution for phone cables... and the pairs run in groups of 25. any help would be great. thanks

What I am trying to do is this: I have to database files. One is jobs.fp5 and the other is to_do.fp5. Both, have a status field, which are pop-up lists with values: incomplete, in progress, in print, received, etc.. I want to be able to be in either file, make the change to status and have the other files pop-up list change as well.
