FileMaker WebDirect

Dropdowns in IWP using a mobile device worked fine, but with FM13, IWP is gone. FM says that "FileMaker WebDirect is not currently designed for use on a mobile device." Well, that's a little inconvenient for those of us who own a device which does not support FM Go. I have a system which tracks golf handicaps for my golfing group. The guys enter their scores after playing a round, usually using their phone. Now it doesn't work anymore. I have tried Firefox, Chrome and Dolphin browsers. I tried using popup menu and drop-down list. None work properly on a mobile, all work fine using a desktop browser. Anybody gotten this to work ?

I'm having a bit of a hard time finding firms that host FM databases and have only found 2 that provide WebDirect. Anybody got any favorites? I know I need to ultimately ask the vendors this question, but how many connections are allowed? Is it based on the vendor's license or mine? Thanks in advance Christopher

In IWP there was no easy way to prevent the user from getting newlines into a text field. I'm testing WebDirect, and it seems that this is still a problem: even though I set Field/ Field Entry: Go To Next Object on Tab, Return and Enter, at runtime the user can still hit the Enter or Return keys and get newlines into the field. Is there any way to stop this?

I am converting IWP (FM-11) to WebDirect (FM-13). Is there a way to test the web interface without having to load it onto a Filemaker Server? I want to do some testing locally before I load it. Before (w/ IWP) you could attach to your "localhost" via a Browser and see how things worked. Can you do something like that with FM-13 (from a browser)? Herb

Hi All, I have a client who recently switched to FM 13 server to allow their clients to use WebDirect. Some of the tables have container fields that store PDFs. Nothing happens when they click on the container field. They have tried all different browsers to no avail. They have tried setting the default applications within the browser to Acrobat (their clients use Windows). I have set the container field to be interactive and not interactive to see if it makes a difference. It hasn't. Is there anything else I should be doing or looking into. Thanks

I've got a very simple layout that has a WebViewer that points to some Javascript based code. It works and displays fine when viewing with the FileMaker Pro client. The JavaScript does have a link to an external file source, which is hosted on our internal website. When I bring up the same layout with WebDirect, nothing shows up in the viewer. I suspect that it has something to do with the file reference, but I can't prove it. In IWP, if the only user that had access to the IWP extended attributes was the [Guest] user, then IWP would bypass the user login screen. I expected it to work the same way in WebDirect, however, my initial tests showed that this was not the case: The Login screen was coming up, even though I had only one account [Guest] that had the webDirect permissions. I worked around this by setting File/FileOptions/Open/When Opening The File: Log in using : Guest Account. However, this seems to have a side effect of blocking my mac (OS X 10.8.5) from remembering the file's administrator password when I'm opening it from FMP Advanced 13. Any ideas how to get this to…

In my web direct solution, I'm finding that the command Exit Application will only work if I don't have an OnLastWindowClose script set. If I have a OnLastWindowClose script set, then the web direct solution stays open.

I have a file designed for web direct that is connected to multiple different files on my server. Is there a way to hide all of the files except for the one designed for web direct? The website I'm referring to is https://<server ip address>/fmi/webd.

My issue relates to using FileMaker Server to host multiple WebDirect clients in an ISP scenario, and apportioning a fixed number of concurrent connections which is lower than the total number licensed for the server deployment as a whole. I am the developer of an application that, when launched, gets a URL to an internet web page where I have written the current version number for that application. Doing some parsing on the return from the URL, the application knows this way that it has to advice the user of a new version available. I am trying to find a way to get the DropDown Box in FM 13 WebDirect to allow the user to type the first letter and move to that part of the list. I have several dropdown boxes that work great in the client, but the WebDirect does not work the same way. Considering that some of these lists have several hundred items, this makes it unusable for them. Is there anyway that I can get this to work? Where can I get information on the "How To" of it?

This seems to happen on any layout, regardless of theme. Bascially, there is something holding up processing of the user actions until another user action is executed. There are a couple of ways to test this Set up a form view with a few fields. 1. Click into a field and then tab to the next field. Sometimes it will go, but sometimes it will do nothing until you hit tab again, at which point it jumps two fields, processing both tab presses at once 2. Click into a field but don't move the mouse. I type in https://81.137.35.92/fmi/webd into my browser, it lists my database file named 'Portam' and I'm then able to log-in. I'm also able to access the file via Filemaker Pro Advanced using the Open Remote File facility and selecting the host fmnet:/filemakerserver.cunliffes.local/, this then lists my file 'Portam' and like with above i'm then able to log-in. I used custom privilege set to restrict my users from seeing data, they are not supposed to access. However, I want to allow them performing find based on all available records and display only a Summary field - like average for example. Now that I'm deeper into my WebDirect solution, I've come across a question that I can't find a definitive answer for anywhere including forums and official FMI guides. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist out there. I've just not been able to find it. The file is on Filemaker 13 Server and I want to see the picture on Web Direct side. When I load an image into an empty layer, button, layout part such as Header or Body...these images we can see in filemaker workstation but not on web direct - web browser. I did try different computers, different web browsers etc = same result. For example, I want my button to display one image but when hoover it then to display some other picture. I downloaded Filemaker Pro 13 and Filemaker 13 Server trial versions running on Windows 8. I have an app I developed in FM 12 that I want to host on FM server 13 using WebDirect. The server install on Windows 8 went well but I get an "Registration with directory service failed" error message when I test the directy service settings. I have the following questions with regard to this installation: Do I have to install Active Directory on Windows 8? Which IP address do I use to set in the Entry Point: The Filemaker Server, Web Server or the Web Publishing Engine IP address? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi All, i've been working on a few systems for my company - a couple of which I have decided to deploy using FM WebDirect. On certain machines I have no trouble at all (either using Firefox or IE 10), yet on another machine with the same browser version I get the dreaded 'Browser Not Supported' message, although it clearly states in the Tech Specs that this version IS supported. I was wondering if it may be a Java issue, so I upgraded Java 7 on one of the affect machines, and it made no difference. Hello, I would like to make my Webdirect solution to only be able to save(commit records) with a button, the problem is, it saves whenever I click anywhere else than a field, on a computer I could live with that, but on touch-screen controls it gets really annoying, I've already disabled the auto-save feature in the layout setup, because on my tablet it literally saved after every letter I typed in. So in short, I'd like to make my webdirect solution so, that you can only save records with a save button, in pro & pro advanced I used the empty web-viewer technique, but that obviously doesnt work in a browser. My only problem is now that I can't get the fields to actually take the data i am putting in  in Webviewer.  I have a portal with a button and when i click on that button a popover shows up (see image attached) if i try to enter anything in the first field it doesn't take it. I get no error message but the field just go back to blank. is this some bug? i am using filemaker13. and firefox 28. both up to date.    However the functionality works fine in the popover when i am not in web viewer.  any ideas?  thanks again for your help!  Erik

This question might be a bit lame, but i spent last 24 hours trying to figure it out with no success. I installed FileMaker Server 13, the trial version, on a MacBook Pro machine with OS X Version 10.9 (Mavericks), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 1333 MHz DDR3. Installation whent smooth, i allowed everything that was required by the process, got to the Admin page and configured the server. Everything seams to be working normally and i have no problems connecting to the sample file and a little file i added using FileMaker 12 client, i can open them and work with them with no issues. Now when i try to open these files using a browser only a blank webpage appears …

It seems that I can't remove "Go to record..." or "Previous/Next" from the main menu that Web Direct Clients see when logging into my solution. I can create a custom menu limiting access to all other menu commands as well as hide/lock the navigation/status bar. Am I missing something obvious here? I was hoping to easily prevent users from navigating from a single record without too much fuss. Appreciate any help.

Strange ! Tool Bar still printing even when hidden, in IE 11 but works fine in Chrome. Any ideas ? I really need to solve this problem and I am going crazy here. Is it WD bug or a IE 11 bug ? A BIG thank you to anyone who can help.

Hi, total filemaker noob here. Trying to test FileMaker WebDirect. Setup FileMaker server on Windows server 2008 Doesnt appear to be working, always blank. So http://localhost/fmi/webd locally doesnt work, just a blank page. Remotely exactly the same. localhost just returns "FileMaker Database Server Website" and logo. Any help would be most appreciated. Cheers just noticed on status page that it states "FileMaker WebDirect is disabled"

I hope some one must have come through this and have solved this type of issue. We are trying to provide public access to FM files in web direct using an external IP. But the External IP doesn't seem to work. While Checking the ports mappings of the system, and came through that the port 80 is been blocked by default web service. So is there any way to map the correct ports to filemaker so that we could be able to access the web direct files using an External IP without affecting the other web services using those ports ? Any suggestions....

For some reason when I have a portal in a popover and I have it set so that when a user clicks a record in the portal, it runs a script with a parameter which pulls the record's unique ID. When I run the script in FM13 (PC windows 8.1) with script debugger I see it pulling the right info, but for some reason on WebDirect (Chrome) it seems like it's pulling the wrong records unique ID. Hi all Is anybody else having an issue where GTRR does not go to the relevant record when using a portal in a Popover accessed through WebDirect? This action is repeatable in a brand new file. Two tables A & B - Table A layout with a cartesian join to Table B to show all records. Create a portal on Layout for Table A and place a button in portal to GTRR. Now copy that portal inside a Popover object (so you have both on the layout - easier for testing). Host the file on Server 13 and access through a web browser using WebDirect. It seems like the File -> Sharing -> Configure for WebDirect dialog basically just sets the fmwebdirect extended privilege for the selected privilege sets (or all of them if "all users" is selected), so the two methods could be used interchangeably. Is this accurate, or is there something I'm missing? If that's the case, the "Don't display on FileMaker WebDirect homepage" checkbox is the only mystery to me in that dialog box; how exactly does that function? Is there any other way to configure that, or is that the one place where that can be shut off?

Has anyone got any results from using WebDirect with a Chromebook, and not just using Chrome browser on Windows/Mac? I suppose the same question also applies to Chrome browser on Linux/Ubuntu? Thanks

Hi Webdirect used to work but coming back to it - it seemed to have stopped working. To ensure it is not a network issue I have also tried to directly connect from the server by using http://127.0.0.1/fmi/webd and localhost/fmi/webd Webdirect is turned on in the console but i do notice that the Web Publishing Engine IP is 127.0.0.1 - is that normal? Also regardless if PHP and XML is turned on or off the Web server status button is grey. FMS 13.0.1 Java 7 update 21 OSX 10.8.5 server Any ideas?? thanks

In IWP, you could specify the database, user, password... and then create your own login page within the actual hosted filemaker file. I can't fine anywhere that this feature exists with Webdirect. Does anyone know?

Are there instructions posted anywhere on how to install a 3rd party SSL cert to be used by WebDirect instead of the self signed FM one. I have a single server deployment that I would like to use SSL with and don't want users to have to deal with the SelfSigned error when accessing the database.

I imagine I'll be spending quite a bit of time in this forum for a while. I'm just starting to work with WebDirect so questions will abound. The "Go to next object using" setting doesn't seem to have an effect in WebDirect. In Pro, it allows us to go to next object when the user hits Tab, Return, and Enter thereby disallowing carriage returns in fields. In WebDirect, even with "Return" and "Enter" selected in the Inspector for the field, it enters a carriage return. I even went so far as to change the field type to "Number" to see if that was a work around. Alas, even a number field allows carriage returns in WebDirect. I don't see this documen…

I have a few questions about the new Web Direct, I am new to FileMaker and has only been using it for development in 2 months. We have acquired FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced recently but without a server. Now from what I understand is you can CWP with FM 12 but will need a server. You also need FileMaker Server if you go with WD too right? And which one is better? I was trying to test Web Direct in FileMaker Server 13 Trial but is having no luck since I am having a "Database not available" error whenever I try to open my database or the sample one. Can anyone help me out with this?

Given the new licensing model i.e. charging for bundles of 5 concurrent connections, I looking at ways to maximise the efficiency whilst minimising connection times. So how does the following scenario sound ? 1) Distribute local .fp12 for use on FILEMAKER Go which contains local data 2) Provide a 'Sync Now' button which fires a script to open a remote file (i.e. 1 x connection), sync between the local data and the remote data file, then close the file (i.e. connection to the remote file) Will the above approach actually work and be efficient ? Hi We have been on FM server 13 for about 2 weeks now. Also changed from IWP to WebDirect. Deployment on 2 iMac (Master+worker). The speed of the WebDirect is pretty bad from WAN side, and I don't know what's wrong. Both iMac is: 2,5 GHz, 4-core, i5 with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ram. Connection is 15MBit, behind firewall.

In IWP it was nearly impossible to pass a simple parameter to a database while opening it. e.g. you couldn't simply set another value in the URL and access it from within IWP: http://mycompany.com/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=MyDatabase&-loadframes&foobar=xxx There was no way to read the value of "foobar=xxx". Any improvement in WebDirect?

I am rewriting our 15 satellite offices to be on one web server, instead of individual FMP software solutions. I am rewriting anyway because my files are large and too much code and layouts are not used that happens from 20 years of adding on, it is just time... They will be able to share the database direct, but when it comes to iPad and iPhone, just downloading Filemaker Go and then emailing them the revised smaller designed layouts will give them the data access to the server database, correct? Every other browser it works with, but the header I set up and the tabs, when it goes to WebDirect on IE 10, it does not show the background on the header and the tabs are see through.   PC/Mac Chrome and Mac Safari all work.  Image attached of two screen shots.  Any help would be great.

My text boxes that were aligned centre and middle (used as buttons) have all defaulted to left and top in WebDirect, just like in IWP. Also my text boxes don't automatically return lines that reach the right border of the text box. If there's not a return entered, the text disappears off the right border of the text box. Other than that, love all the new stuff in 13.

Background... Worldcloud routinely resales FileMaker licensing to it's clients. Other than our monthly and/or shared server clients, it is a better value for our clients to purchase AVLA licensing as opposed to renting licensing monthly from Worldcloud. This in fact is part of the reason why FileMaker created the FBA program. Once a year we renew the majority of our FileMaker licesning with AVLA licensing. I have created script step to send an email going to the addresses from the email field(s) in the found set.  From Filemaker Pro 13 client version the addresses are added correctly with a comma between them, but the script run via the browser (Safari) inserts a semicolon between each address which renders them all as unrecognizable addresses via the email client (Apple Mail).  So, not wanting to go through 200 email addresses and replace semicolons  with commas.......................... is this a bug in WebDirect?  The "Email" script step shows as compatible for WebDirect.  Thanks,  Marc

excuse me if this is a silly question.... i have been using fmp11 in a peer-to-peer sharing environment for a long time now. I have been leery of upgrading to 12 because of having to upgrade all my licenses (there are usually 5-7 seats). If I upgrade to 13 (and get fmpserver13) can I use my database on a LAN? Can my local solution still interact (via an on-timer script - exporting and importing data) to a hosted database on the 'net while the webdirect users are on the LAN? maybe i should just get the trial version and see.... thanks for any thoughts, Martie

After a few trials webdirect seems a massive improvement over IWP. A few quirks but well worth a look.

Hi: Has anybody tested WebDirect over WAN? If I understand correctly, most of the work will have to be carried out by the server since there will be no client desktop app when accessing the DB via a browser. Will this make it faster? I hope it does. It is a game changer to be able to deploy your solution and access it from anywhere w/o having to have a machine with FM installed, specially if the speed of WAN access improves.
