I found some great methods of sorting portal on the blog fitchandfitch.com. ( http://www.fitchandfitch.com/2011/05/filemaker-portal-sorting-redux/ ) I want to modify the file „PortalSort Petrowsky.zip" (created by Matt Petrowsky). In this file we have a typical situation. There are two tables and relationships between them. I wanted to have only one table with the relationship between self-join. My unsuccessful modification in the attachment. Please help me. Hi guys I'm building a small database for the company I work with but I found what seems to be a problem for me. Referring to the pic attached: the table OrdersIN has a portal on Orders IN Line Items. On each row of this portal there's a button to "select" the row by changing the field "status" (on Orders IN Line Items of course) from 0 to 1. I have a print form set up to print multiple pages. It uses several tabs, showing the related records in a portal with a finite number of rows on each (1-25, then 25-50, etc.), and the print script switches tabs as needed for the count of related items. I now need to place a quantity total below on each tab, summarizing just the quantity field from related records of the portal range shown on that one tab. So I need to a field to calc sum(quantity) from related records 1-25, and another for 25-50. Trying to find something more graceful than a written out Get Nth, given I am recursive-challenged. I have a parent table called (Route Packs), on that table I have a portal from (Route Pack Sections) that shows the Route Pack Sections that belong to a (Route Pack). I have another layout that displays reords from (Route Packs). On this layout I have a portal that displays records from (Route Retention). This all displays correctly. Hello, I am setting up a licensing table/layout for my music processing and licensing database. Currently, the flow of information runs like so: Music Owners > Scores > Tracks > Edits One Music Owner owns many Scores, and each score contains a number of Tracks. Each track may contain a number of Edits from that track. I am now creating a licensing table and layout and I need to create a portal that displays tracks as typed into the search field above it (see attached image). Hi, in short I'm trying to do the following: -there's a Table "Letters" -and a Table "People" -In the layout for Letters I want to select the recipient through clicking on a line of a portal. So far, I'm stuck with two things: 1st Issue: If I set the relationship: Letter::kf_ID_recipient = People::k_ID, then the portal is empty, but the assignment of one recipient to one letter works as expected. If I set the relationship: Letter::kf_ID_recipient X People::k_ID, then the portal is populated correctly (I can do nice searches/filtering), but I don't see how the assignment would possibly work then. 2nd Issue: how do I actually …

Hi, Just starting to learn FM, and I'm stumped by the below. I know what it does, it is a button to perform an action. Question is, what kind of button is it? I tried to manually do this by putting a portal, and placing a button in the first row of the portal just like how the fields are, but it does not work, the button stays only in the first row. Hi All After helping someone adjust a portal sort technique they were trying to add to thier file and due to the fact that i am working on a solution that will need multiple instances of a portal sort technique myself, I was inspired to work up the current technique I use and expand it and make it dynamic so that the same script can be used for multiple portals throughout a file. All I want is a summary field (in the upper right corner) that shows the total of the over/under amount field. I tried a summary field. Nope. I tried a calculated field. I have a table called "Bids". Each Bid is for one customer's job, but I want to give them options, so I have a portal called "Quotes". If I'm on bid 137, the Bid ID is 137, and the Quote ID is 137, but I want a field called Bid Number that is a serial number: 1, 2, 3, etc. Then on the next Bid, I want the serial number to reset. The goal is to be able to save a PDF of the record, and the filename will use the Bid Number (ie. Customer Name Bid 1.pdf, Customer Name Bid 2.pdf, etc.) The problem is the bid number keeps going, so on my 4th customer bid, it's says Bid Number 45 or something, even though it's the first bid I'm sending. Hello everyone, I'd like to be able to use a checkbox or radio button set to specify a "default" entry in a portal. For example, I have a membership database, and in a member record, I show a portal of his/her addresses. Since each member can have multiple addresses, I'd like the user to check a box/radio button to specify which of the addresses shown in the portal is the default address for that member. On a busy layout that doesn't have room for a portal, can a portal be created to pop up in a certain part of your screen via a trigger of some sort? Would you create a portal on another seperate layout and then resize the layout to the size of the portal?

I've attached a copy of my database file. I'm trying to create a conditional value list that populates in a portal with two fields that contain value list. I tried to follow the setup of a an example I found online. It appears I did something wrong. I can't find it. Despite the current performance issue there are some great improvements with FM12. One thing that I really appreciate is that portal scrolling works great now on both Windows and Mac. You no longer have to click on a portal to give it focus. Simply hovering over them and scrolling your mouse wheel now works.

I've opened my FM11 file in FM12 and am noticing odd or different behavior between the two versions that I don't understand. In a portal, I have a value list that is based on a field. This values are the children of the parent item in the particular record being shown on each portal line. In FM12, the values from the first line item is just repeated in every record below regardless of the parent, UNTIL I actually click on the field, and then the displayed values changes to the appropriate values for that particular record...as soon as I click out, the display reverts to showing the values from the first record. As an example, I have created a very simple FMP11 file with two entities, 'clients" and "commandes". "commandes" has two fields, _kp and "numéro de commande" which is a number auto enter serial number. There is an OT "clients_COMMANDES" linked to the entity "clients". Is there an easy way of duplicating a record within a portal? I expect CTRL D (windows) will duplicate the record of the table I am in and not the portal. Would I need a script to do this?

My portal is based on a join table. I want my portal records to be sorted by the Last_Name field in a related table. Is there some trick to doing this? It seems like it should be do. In my portal setup I tried Custom Order based on a value list... but my records still aren't sorting alphabetically. Any help you can give me would be so greatly appreciated.

I have three portals on one layout. The top layout contains a list of tasks that a user has received. The middle portal contains detailed information on ALL tasks a user has received or sent. The bottom portal contains a list of tasks that a user has sent. The top and bottom portals contain just a fraction of the task information, like name date and priority. This is a 'quickie'. My application has a tabbed object. Each tab has a portal. One Tab [Membership] has another tabbed interface. One 'tab' on that interface is 'DDESNDP'. On DDESNDP is a portal. Everything works well. However, to check user validity on startup a script is run which is supposed to check the TOP DDESNDP portal row field and then evaluates it. Hi Attached is a demo containing three tables: KEYWORDS VALUES KEYWORS_VALUES where if you enter a number (in the KEWYWORDS table) into the fields "Keyword_1" or "Keyword_2", a new entry into a portal is created, when you click outside the fields. To delete an entry in the portal you delete the content of "Keyword_1" or "Keyword_2" and click outside. If you add to a fields content, a new portal is created, and you are no longer able to delete the previously entered portal entry. Any other suggestions of how to do this? I'm writing a script that is triggered (onobjectvalidation) from a tabbed portal on a layout. Part of the script performs a search on different layout and returns with some variables set from that search. My problem is that when I return to the original layout, I can't seem to consistently get back to the point of origin (field from which the script was triggered). There are some instances in which the user will be triggering the script from the 4th row of a 10 row portal. Through portal filtering I've been able to pull up inventory based off of the type of material chosen in the PROJECT that matches the material in INVENTORY. I'm working on a Layout for Events, with is connected to a Table of Contacts via a Join Table called Invitations. Good day everyone, I am new to FileMaker. I am in the process of making or trying to make a database that will allow me to enter paid invoices for a company. It would have supplier info, product info, dept purchased for info and the ability to key the paid invoice as an invoice. That is the part I'm stuck on. I have used a portal on a layout for use as a report and find that when I set the portal to display 25 records then that's all that will be displayed when I enter preview mode. By using the scroll in browse mode I can scroll through all the portals related records even though it only displays 25 on the screen at once. Thought it would work like this in preview mode too. I have found a workround although I'm not convinced it's too clever. I can over estimate (flaw!) the number of records that I think I will need and then set the portal to display that amount and then set the portal print options to reduce enclosing part which works. I have a 3 tables: work orders vehicles parts I have a layout with two portals on it: one with work orders which matches a certain vehicle (Only shows work orders for the vehicle indicated) one with parts for the corresponding work order (or at least thats what I would like) right now I have 3 work orders showing for a certain vehicle). Can someone point me in the right direction as to when I click on a work order in one portal ONLY the parts used for that WO populate the other portal? Sorry if none of this makes sense. Hi, I have a portal displaying transactions. I want to filter the transactions so that I'm only looking at the current year. the records I'm displaying in the portal have a DATE field (the field is imported from a mysql db as mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss) and the information in my FM db is formatted as mm/dd/yyyy I'm filtering using the calculation If ( Transactions:_transDate >"01/01/2012" ; 1 ; 0 ) However this is not filtering out transactions from 2011 What am I doing wrong? I have a portal that displays 10 rows with no vertical scroll bar. There are approximately 200 records in my table occurrence. I want my users to navigate by clicking on buttons, similar to the navigation in this forum. (please see attached screen capture) When I try to use a "go to portal row" script step it does not work becuase it only allows me to choose records being displayed (portal rows 1-10). Is there a way that can I display records 11-20 without changing layouts, and without showing the vertical scroll bar? Unfortunately showing the scroll bar, or even turning it on and making it transparent is not an option with this particular solution.

I have a portal showing all the students and their birthdays. I want to display only the children who have a birthday coming up this week. I tried filtering the portal with the following calculation; Students:Birthdate ≥ Get(CurrentDate) AND ≤ (Get(CurrentDate +7)) .... But no cigar. I have also tried sorting the dates by Students:Birthdate but it sort by year, then Month Name (which is not the mlnths in order) Mmm, got a few ideas about teh sorting but no clue about the filtering. Hello Everyone, Scenario: I have created 2 tables namely Agreement and Agreement Details, where AgreementId is primary key in Agreements table and refered as a foreign key in Agreement Details. Hi Is it possible to get Filemaker to auto adjust the field size in a portal according to the amount of text that it contains. This portal contains the entries on an invoice page I am creating and the description of the work can be one line or ten lines long. I can manually adjust the field to show all the text but then it is the same for all the other entries and I have empty spaces on my page. Maybe Im going about it the wrong way and shouldnt be using a portal in this situation. I would appreciate any help with this as I have spent two days wrestling the script to get all the info into the portal, only to be stuck at the final hurdle. Thanks

I have a portal that has 2 script triggers on it, each triggered via different fields in the portal. When the portal is empty (ie no portal rows), I cannot trigger any scripts. The only way is to set up the portal at a button, but then I loose the ability to trigger the scripts I need on the two fields I mentioned above. I'm trying to display the premium amount for the past 3 years in a list on the current record. I need help figuring out how to do this... I can show the date field for the current year, and the premium field for the current premium, but how do i set up the date field to be 1 year back and connect it to the premium so it shows that premium amount? Hi, I have a need to change the filtering of a portal on the fly. The current relationship to this portal is that of a client number, but need to narrow the filter down even more as a keyword is typed into a field outside the portal. The portal is to a duplicate table with an alias - I know my terminology here is wrong, but I needed a portal to the same table to list the records - so we are talking about the same table. The attachment shows a simplified version of a situation I've encountered on a much more complicated layout. The problem is to have the filtered portals show contents in the same order as the 1, 2, 3 order of the parent records ... 1 on the left, 2 in the middle and 3 on the right. I've been mulling over some possibilities ... like having a separate "driver field" that is built by a triggered script whenever a change is detected in the order of parent records. But I can't help thinking there's a simpler way. After all, the proper order is sitting right in the parent table. I just can't figure how to put it to proper use. I have two portals on a layout that show widgets from the same table (which has Allow Creation enabled). One portal is filtered to show only Type A widgets. The other shows only Type B's. When a user adds a widget to one of the portals (by entering on the last line), I'd like the add action to automatically set the widget Type according to which portal is being used. That way, the new entry will remain in the correct portal. BTW, the Type is not displayed in the portals. Indeed, the user is not even aware of the mechanism driving the content of the two portals. I am enrolling students into a summer music camp (i.e., Event) and have to be able to keep different joined records for every year and keep separate records if the same student enrolls in multiple camps during the same year. I have a tab control with two tabs. Each tab has a portal in it. It displays properly in edit layout mode, but when I re-enter browse mode, all of the portals get superimposed on top of each other. The portals are well within the margins of the tabs, so I'm not sure what's up.

Simple question: If there are no portal records, is it possible to display a message in the portal to indicate that? I'm sure there is already a thread answering this, but I can't find it.

Hi, I have a script that creates a master job and then in a related table creates 'sub jobs'. I have a table layout that shows all the records are in the sub job table with correct foreign keys for the master job table. The relationships are stated correctly and I have allowed the creation of records in the 'edit relationship' dialog. However when I view the portal in the master job layout I can see the multiple rows for the sub jobs but some of the data is not showing in the portal??? I've checked the height of the fields to ensure they are not outside of the portal, but can't think what else could be the problem. This is turning into a serious …

I am trying to replace the scroll bar in a portal with buttons. I have been able to scroll up and down the portal records successfully without a scroll bar. However, when I scroll down past the last visible record in the portal, the portal does not scroll down to make that record visible. For instance, if I have a portal with 10 rows (and is showing the 1st 10 records) that has 11 records and I scroll down from the 10th row, the 11th record is highlighted but the record is not visible. I am using "Go to Portal Row" to navigate. Any Ideas

Help...I don't know why I'm having this issue but I can't seem to delete the prior row entry for the first field in the second row of a portal. I've attached a pdf of the screen. It is in the voucher_detail layout. You can see that row one has a drain # of S24-59 with data populated in the other field and then in row 2 it also show's S24-59 but the rest of the row is empty. I am looking for the most efficient / fast running way to swap the content of two records (first / last, choosen in a script if swap needed). The idea behind this is allowing the sorting in the portal view to be disabled, as it might dramatically increase the speed. In the attached file all records with the same "ID_Offert" belong to the same offer, and will appear in a portal in "Offer". My idea would be: • store the data from the last record in variables, • write the data from the first record in the last record • write the data in the variables in the first record It will work in a server envirornment. Is there a way to populate a portal with related records and then be able to change values in the fields of the portal records without changing the original record they came from? This would be easiest to explain as an inventory/invoice database. Say I have an "Invoice" table that contains a portal which displays records from an "Inventory" table. In my case the items in the portal are populated automatically based on a field outside the portal. This would be similar to a case were Customer A always places the same order, and choosing Customer A in the Invoice:Customer field would get all related records and fill out the items in the portal. have a portal setup and sometimes, very rarely, but enough to be a headache, the line in the portal does not delete. When looking in the "lines" table, the record is in fact deleted, but it's still in the portal view. My clients can exit the database and when they log back in, it's gone. I'm using the simple "delete portal row" script step. i'm hoping other people have run into this same problem, and have a work around or perhaps i'm not doing something I should be.

(Beginner)--Filemaker rocks! I have a simple time entry application, I have a portal where a manager enters employees time: emp ID 001 autoenters name and then they select time worked yada yada. I want to be able to select a team: IE manager selects team 25 and it autoenters all the employees into the portal and then they edit times if needed. I assume I make a button and set a script on it, but how do I make it enter multiple rows based on if an employee has been assigned to a team in the employee table? much thanks!

I wonder if you could be so kind to help me. I've got a list of 18 vocabulary fields that need to have a word entered into each one in order to display their images. Alongside these vocabulary fields I've got a portal that displays a list of words. I would like to create script inside the portal that enters the portal row, copies the contents and then pastes it into the next empty vocabulary field. Hi all, I'm hoping this is an easy fix. I have two databases the main one, we'll call MAIN has a radio box on it. On another database, we'll call SECOND has a portal to MAIN. As part of the portal is these radio boxes. I want whatever is checked in the radio box in MAIN to appear in SECOND portal and vice versa. the problem I am having is if I check the box in MAIN it turns off the checked box in SECOND portal. If I check the box in SECOND portal it turns it off in MAIN. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thank you.

I did not create file because I believe this is simple for you. I could not find it. Accounts table and table Bank related on Account_ID assigned in Bank when entering lines. Want report by all Account numbers so I go to Accounts table. I want two columns, LastMonth and ThisMonth which is sum of Bank::Amount. Student Groups Grouplineitem See attached picture of layout Working from the "Student" layout, I want to create a portal on the left side of the layout and have it list all the students names who are in a certain group. hi! when i copy and paste fields into a portal, they show up when i am in "edit layout" mode, but when i return to view mode to enter records, the fields are no longer appear in the portal...it is simply blank. any ideas why this suddenly is glitchy? this was working fine before and has never happened before...i checked to make sure all of the boxes are within the borders of the portal, and tried to redo it but the same thing happened. I've got a database that includes a container field that I wish to use for PDFs, so that it will be possible to access the PDF from inside the database. Its trivial to use the "insert file" command and then navigate to the desired file to link it in the container field. But here are my problems: 1) There are over 400 PDFs altogether and each needs to be linked to a different record. The name on each PDF begins with a number that corresponds to a unique ID number for each record in the database. Anyone know how to go about printing a record (from form view) when the record contains a portal with a scroll bar and there are more child records than can be seen without scrolling? My portal shows 10 lines. Say there are 15 child records in the portal. How can I print the form view of the parent record showing the first 10 child records, then have a 2nd page print the same info from the same parent record in form view but have it automatically scroll to show the next 5 child records? Is there a way to grab the numerical value of a filtered portal? I have a filtered portal in FMP 11; using the portal filter feature rather than filtering via a relationship. I decided I'd try something clever, I'd create a one line portal, let's call it Portal New, that would just be used to add records. I filtered this portal so it would only show records that were being entered since there are script triggers that commit the record as it goes to refresh other portals on the layout. Under this portal is another one that shows all the records that have been entered. We'll call it Portal All. You can edit records in Portal All. I have a portal set up to display related records based on a field value in the main layout. When the value selected in the "Equipment" field is changed, the records shown in the portal from the "Isolation Points" table change based on a relationship. The "Isolation Points" table has a "Type" field that can only contain one value, either "Mechanical" or "Electrical". But on the layout pictured (Safety Clearance) there is a field with check boxes that will allow either or both types to be selected. The portal was based on my Line Items table So this is what i noticed. When I view the records in the main table in browse mode/table view I see all the fields OUTSIDE of the portal from the main layout, but the fields from INSIDE the portal only show the first record. For every one record of the main layout I get one record from the portal, even though there are many records in the portal for each record of the main layout. Within the person layout I have a portal which displays the persons that are related to that company, clickable to easily edit that person without changing layouts. Very nice btw. I have a portal field that is a popup type. In addition to letting the user choose a value for the field, I would like a script to run when the user clicks on this field. I have tried the following without success: 1) If I give this popup field button capabilities in order to run a script, the script will run but the popup function no longer works. 2) If I try to use script triggers for this popup field, no matter what event(s) I choose, the popup function works but the script never runs. This is a troubleshooting question: In one of my files there is a Company table and a Contact table. Each table has it's own form-type layout. The table occurrence group for the Company form also contains an instance of the Contact table in a one-to-many relationship. The Company layout contains a portal to the instance of the Contact table in it's TOG.
