Hello, I am hoping that someone has an idea of what I could do to circumvent this problem: I open a document (excel or word) in the webviewer. If during the same session I want to delete the file, it tells me that the file is locked or in use (even if I am no longer looking at the file, the webviewer has been refreshed with another file or it is blank). If I check in task manager, it shows me that excel is running (it's not in my taskbar). It looks like the file stays "in use" even if I exit FileMaker: the only way I found to unlock the file was to log off or end the Excel process in task manager... I thought that I should write a routine that "flags" …

Hi everyone I wish to get some data back from a URL...The URL is in the form of a "submission string" and I have correctly formatted the query string parameters to bring back data. The returned data only consists of two lines of text in CSV format - the first being a header. The second is 4 very short fields. On a layout I have a web viewer object named wvmileage If i use a "custom url" ("http" etc as above) it does indeed return the text file into the viewer and if I then (in a script) set variable: $temp = GetLayoutObjectAttribute("wvMileage";"content") then $temp correctly returns the content of text file. So far so good. BUT …

The file crashed as soon as I left layout mode for browse mode and now it won't even open. And the crash report, when I try to read it, flashes by in about 2 seconds. You can view PDF, HTML, text, Quicktime, various image formats.. what else? Just a quick question about IE and web viewer. I have IE 7 and have very little inclination to upgrade to a newer version unless I can take advantage of certain features in the web viewer. The question is will IE tabbed browsing open tabs within the IE window in the viewer when links are clicked that open new windows? Rather than open a new IE window outside of FileMaker. If anyone has dealt with this I would greatly appreciate any input you could offer. Obviously this is at the mercy of the current users settings if it is possible, and it would have to configured in the browser prefs but I could handle that if I knew that it was at least capable.

At no point was I ever asked to assign an object name that I could use to reference it in a script. Also, the FM Pro 8.5 online help makes a reference to creating a Web Viewer as a button, but never really explains how to do this. The button can be given an Object name, so could this be the way to what I want …

I am using the Business Productivity template from File Maker and launched it to be used via web. One of the screens allows the user to choose from a list of tasks or contacts. The list is in a preview type mode with no roladex to the left. The problem is there are hundreds of records and I cant find a way to scroll to the next page via web. I see there is a way to go to the next record but not to the next page. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks Mike

Hi Guys, Anyone know if I can scale the charts down. I've gone into the vw.html file and edited the width and height, which seems to have scaled down the graphics to the size I want but I cant seem to increase the fontsize. I have a calc that contains type=intermpie, which seems to display my chart. When I change the type to pie, the chart dissapears (I think I n eed to use pie to get the fontsize to work as this is used in the advanecd pie chart calc.) Any ideas why changing intermpie to pie stops the charting example from working...... I can post the code if that helps once I've got access to my computer.

I have a database of records, each record has a serial number assigned by the registrar. I use a get function to first find the corresponding record at the registrar's site, then it locates the image associated with my record. The image is different for each record. I am using a webviewer to see the images, but it's a bit untidy. Some images are larger than others, horizontally and vertically and so the user must use the scroll bar (or the webviewer must be set quite large and consumes too much layout). Is there a way to tidy this up? I would like the image to always appear as one size, perhaps as a thumbnail inside each record. Am I stuck with the size, positi…

I recently migrated a Mac running OS 9 and FM 5.5 to a Windows XP box running FM 8.5. There are about 20-25 databases that are searched through and worked perfect on the Mac. Since I switched over to the PC, I have been only getting read permissions although R/W permissions have been set. I can not search by web, but it is fine within FM. I also do not have a 'guest' option for people who I want to have read only access. Am I missing a setting? Please help.. This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

I created a runtime (8.5 Advanced) tool to assist staff in entering data into our web based contact & businees management software. In short, as you flip through FM records, the correct contact appears in the viewer based on the contact ID's stored in FM. Using this method saves time since it takes 6 clicks and a search if you want to enter data directly from the website. Not efficient if you have 150-200 entries to make. The problem is that after scrolling through 25 or records, the solution bogs down and then freezes. Here is what I noticed: 1) When the solution is launched, it is using 25 or so MB of memory. 2) When you get to record 20, t…

  78. This goes along with some of my other posts. The application I am working on produces a book. In that book references to PDFs or the PDFs themselves are stored in container fields. Recently I am favoring just storing the references based on being able to obtain the path to the PDF in question. Here is the problem: I want to print this book. That is the whole purpose of my applications development. The portion of the book developed in FMP is a no brainer to get it to print in sequence. But then I get to these areas where parts of the book have been developed in other programs with the information saved externally as a PDF and I want to reach out to those PDFs and pr…

  84. In the solution that I am working on, I will be tracking alot of documentation. I have a fear of storing numerous PDFs in container fields in the application because it might bloat based on file size and become slow. Is there a trend in creating a separate file for storing graphics / pdfs / etc... that would be linked to a main file in order to keep from overloading the main file? What are some good approaches? I am using FMP8.5 Advanced. Thanks...er...in advance... :)

I'm having difficulty printing a layout with a webviewer pointing to a PDF. On the screen, it renders fine. Beautifully, in fact. Does exactly what I want. However, when I try to print a hardcopy, all I get is a blank rectangle. I've tried this with both a local PDF, and a PDF from Adobe's website. Nada in both cases. HTML renders fine and prints fine, but I'm looking to do PDFs with the intention of including frequently-updated, high-resolution vector images as part of a spec sheet database. Can someone confirm if this is indeed typical behavior of FM 8.5 on WinXP, or if I just have something messed on my end. Thanks!

Hey Folks, I searched around and coudn't find an answer to this. Displaying FedEx results, I get a lot of 'non-value-added' header information (FedEx logo, etc.) It would be perfect if there were a way to tell WebViewer to scroll down, say, 100 pixels upon loading of the page, so I could save my screen real esate for what I actually need to see. Is there any way to do this? (through a plug-in or otherwise) I have read other posts that discuss grabbing the HTML code of a particular URL and then parsing this. This option just seems like a lot of work. Cheers, DD

  91. I have dabbled with the separation model a bit. I could see using the webviewer to create an integrated "check for update" option. A dialog could show the user their current version with the web viewer showing them the most current version and provide a download link.....all on the same window. I have played around a bit and it seems to work like a charm. The main file (with logic and scripts, etc) is simply downloaded via the viewer. What is interesting is that there does not seem to be a "trail" of the download (since the viewer doesnt use a dedicated browser). Any thoughts on this? Greg

The new Web Viewer looks pretty nice and I can see some useful applications for it. However, what do you do when you encounter pages that use the POST method such as Filemaker's own store? http://store.filemaker.com/ In the left column there is a field where you can enter your Order Number and track your order's status. The form appears to use the POST method which does not embed parameters in the URL. How could you incorporate a Web Viewer to track the status of an order from from Filemaker's website?
