Hello. It is nice that the question I asked a while ago about youtube working in the web browser is still getting answers. I want to ask something similar. I am interested in finding a way to display an [color:brown]Exact [color:black]rectangle within a web page in a web browser. Most web sites have a header that is always in the same location and or named the same object within a web page. I would like to find a way to display an exact location or rectangle within the web browser. I am loading an exact example. the file "page is the whole page " and I would like the webviewer to locate and frame the graphic part of that page called by the file "Specific" . Maybe I am as…

I am trying to use the webviewer to view stored documents (pdfs and jpgs) by using the filepath and filename stored in a field ( appropriately modified to give me a "//drive/folder/filename" format. The pdfs and jpgs are stored in a folder in the same folder that the FM7 files is stored and I use Get (FilePath) and Get (Filename) to get me the path to the documents. It works fine for documents held on my hard drive but when I try to refer to the path for documents held on my iDisk (OSX 10.5) the webviewer reports that the document is not found. Has anyone experienced the same or found a solution? Regards Jim

It is so nice to be able to get a movie into webviewer. The problem is you always have to scroll to get the movie centered. Is there any way to script this so we can find an exact location on a web page that has all their objects in the same places each time? Thanks

I read with great interest the recent posts on embedding an animated GIF and displaying it with Web Viewer. Link It seems to be an ideal solution for displaying popup-style messages during longer operations. But when I constructed a simple message box, I encountered a problem as shown in the attached image. Does anyone know what is generating the large white rectangle? I want to use the google maps feature with webviewer but don't want all the extra boarders and crap google maps adds. I would love to have just what is shown with an embed link. Just the map at a custom size and zoom level I choose. I have been able to get the embed link to work but can't figure a calculation to make it generate from some address fields.

I would like to add a page with GoogleMaps to my address database where the address is taken from the record I just selected in browse mode. I guess I will have to tell FM which record it should refer to but I don´t know how to do this. I already tried to just point FM to the relevant fields but it did not work out. Any help out there? I am looking to add animations (an animated navigation bar) to my database and was thinking that using the Web Viewer would be a great/only option. I have a large database filled with marketing lead currently. I want to add an animated FLASH or HTML navigation bar in the header for the different layouts that I have in Filemaker. Hi To All, I am having trouble getting a site to load that is https and has a certificate. It comes up a "bad server certificate" Is there a way around this. It loads perfectly in Safari/Firefox. I am running FileMaker 10 Server Advanced with FM10pro on all our machines. One of our Mac os X (not Leapord) won't load a web viewer page. I have set the web viewer to "www.google.com/calender" and have also tried a global field. All the viewer does is state "loading www.google.com/calendar" but never really loads. As it is only on one machine, what should I check? Thanks.

Help! I'm trying to display an animated gif on my layout using a web viewer. I can easily set up an absolute path to the file to accomplish this, but that's not a solid solution - if the computer gets renamed, replaced, if the database file gets moved, even if the .gif is moved with it, - anything could happen - the absolute path breaks. I can set up a calculated relative path to the database file, but if the databse does not reside on the startup drive, it's broken as well. Is it possible to display the current browsed URL in a field? If I have a url field in filemaker and the webviewer is using this field as url reverence, how can it be possible to update the field dynamically when I browse in the webviewer? Thanks

I've attached a sample file for an address verification through display of www.anywho.com in a web viewer. So far so good. Except, that the site contains so much "junk" which I don't need to see... is there a way to only display the part of the website which contains the result?? Hi. I have used Filemaker's web viewer successfully in the past to access a web site and supply the necessary information to the site's form field when the field was text type. When I changed the web site's field type to "password," FileMaker stopped putting the correct data in that field. Is there a way to force this? Thank you

I loaded an HTML file in to the web viewer and it displays screenplay formated text properly. When I copy and paste the text into a "Text Field" I am losing all my formating. Is there a way to get the text field to respect the HTML formating or is there another way to do this? I want to be able to use just a part of the HTML text and associate it with different records. I had developed a method with a web viewer parsing xml data (custom function) as a result from url passed to the web viewer. however on the mac it works as the web viewer displays all the data in a big text block, and using the GetObjectAttribute grabs the raw xml... but on windows the webviewer wants to structure it and show it with a bunch of HTML formatting invalidating any scrapping - or showing the raw xml... is there some setting in the windows browser to NOT render xml results page as html? s

Hey, I'm trying to put a line on top of the web viewer. But whatever I try, the web viewer stays on top and the line (or other objects) stay behind the web viewer. Any idea? Furthermore, when displaying text from a field in the web viewer (using "data:text/html," & Table::Field...) I get a "border" at the left side of the web viewer causing that the text starts about 8 pixels from the left border of the field. Is there a way to reduce this? I need to scale a video down to an appropriate size to fit in the smaller webviewer on my layout. It's a "preview" size, say 250px x 200px. The video remains in it's original 640x480 size when playing in the webviewer, so it's cropped in significantly. I've searched but can't find any info on how to scale the video down to the webviewer's size. It's not imperative that I use the web viewer, but I think it's the only way to preview a video file on the layout. Help?

Hi, Apologies if this is in the wrong place, but what is the best way to get a pie chart to show data within FM itself? I have a database with some data which i would like to show graphically (without having to leave FM to go to a browser for example). Is this possible with the standard FM ... my research makes me say no. I have found quite a few plug ins by third parties that seem to do that - is this the only way to go / which is the best plug in / and would i have to upgrade to FM9? Many thanks, Slater

TaffyDB is a javascript framework for manipulating data. Should be quite handy when combined with Web Viewer. Haven't made any examples yet. http://taffydb.com/

Webviewer screenshot not WYSIWYG? Filemaker 9 prints the layout as viewed in the server but when viewed over the web the screenshot graphics and text are larger than the original and loose a lot in the translation. The layout doesn't fit the page when viewed on the web and unintended text wraps (etc) occur. Any useful suggestions?

I have a webviewer that points to a specific folder on my local drive for each record. Those folders in turn contain subfolders with various PDF files in them - once I went to one of the subfolders, I cannot 'browse' back, since the right click does not give me the 'back' option. Is there a way to maneuver around in a folder structure?

Hi, I have been using filemaker for a few weeks and I see the potential it has. I have been working on a project that includes massive data collection. As a end product, I would like to display data in a certain format grouped by two fields. The report also has sub-summaries for each grouping and a Grad Summary. I could manage to display the reports in the software, but when I try the same through a web browser, it only shows one record, which, when changed to a list view shows more records but only for one category withing the group. Having a Web Viewer with a static or calulated url displaying just a graphic (.jpg, .gif etc), like this (check this) (). What is the simplest way to make a script that does a copy (to clipboard or otherwise), thereby making pasting into a container field possible? *The doonesbury graphic is of course just an example.

I really hope this is in the right section. My business currently uses a web-based (our own domain) scheduling calendar that is able to send email reminders to the staff member that works a particular shift. The appointments are entered by one person so the calendar is not interactive. I am a filemake noooob but I was wondering if I could use filemaker for the same job? Am I getting into something I will regret here? I would even be happy to have this "off-line" and just have the calendar posted online for viewing with a script taking care of the email reminders. So what say yee - is this doable without breaking the bank or making me go crazy?

I have copied a piece of code from a website that is for web clocks and have been able to get it to work but not as I would like or expect it to. I need to be able to use the whole piece of code but am lost as to how. I'm migrating a 54-table database (ie 54 files) from FM5 to 9. Navigation from one table to another has been using an "Open file" script step on a button. That script step is not IWP compatible. How can you script navigation that works on FM client (our power users) but also on IWP (for our regular users)? I could use an open URL script step, but that would presumably foul the FM client "open file" step.

I’m planning to use TEXTRACTOR in a document management system to extract text from PDF documents, and make the contents searchable. I want the users to be able to view the extracted text, but not to interact with it (ie copy to clipboard, export field contents etc.). To prevent them doing that I have to turn off access to the field in Browse mode - but then they don’t get the scrollbar… I tried using a plain text field on a layout, and I have tried with the web viewer. Hello folks, I'm using a web viewer in order to get access to some PDFs (using SuperContainer) but since the DB must be accessible both inside and outside my LAN I need to switch the URL according to fact that the user is inside or outside the LAN. I have tried to use as a URL the internal IP and I can access to the PDFs only when I'm inside the LAN (when I'm outside I get a connection timeout). I have changed the URL to the public IP and in this scenario I can access only when I'm outside the LAN (inside I get a connection failure error). My first idea (even if I don't know how to make it works) is to define some kind of script that checks the user's IP addr…

A lot of the text comes in so small I can barely read it. I've set the size of the viewer to as wide as possible, removed the status bar and tool bars. Maybe I'm overlooking something but is there any way to adjust it? It doesn't look like that in my browser...

Hi I have an FM script that "scrapes" data from webviewer. This is an automated data collection tool that I use on a hospital lab system with an HTML interface. Occasionally an entry in the web-based system produces a dialog box which interrupts the script and I must manually press return or click "OK" to allow it to continue. The dialog is purely on the web server side and has nothing too do with FM. The same dialog would come up if the web based lab system was queried manually in a web browser. I have several known good url's to a jpg image that won't show in the web viewer. I suspect that it is because they are in a subdomain. Can anyone confirm this offer suggestions. I have confimed that the web viewer path is correct. There is no error msg. but no image either.

Hi. I posted this about a year ago and no one had any solutions. I gave up, but I need to revisit the issue again. I am trying to "scrape" html source via the web viewer using the following script. Set Field [Patient::Source; GetLayoutObjectAttribute ("Reach" ; "Content")] "Reach" is the webviewer object name This works perfectly when run within filemaker, but when I run it over IWP (where I need it to run), the target field only displays the URL of the webviewer, rather than the source code. I'm attempting to parse data from a web viewer window into a new record. All good. The problem is that once a new record is created the web viewer refreshes and goes back the the original login screen not the client screen I was on. Tried a portal with no luck.

I am working on my site and I can't upgrade the SSL due to cash issues (another story). Trying to search Amazon MP3 Downloads via a webviewer, however a URL string that works in browser (returning results for mp3's only) returns a generic search of all amazon (not just mp3s)? I want to copy text from a field on a layout and paste it into a field in a web site in Web Viewer on that same layout. Although I can type into the field in Web Viewer, I cannot paste from the clipboard. Is this a knowm limitation or am I doing something wrong. I'm using Filemaker Pro Advanced 9 on Mac Leopard.

Well this started as a question, but now it’s a tip, with a question (VB Script related) at the end. The goal is to display a PDF document in the web viewer, but use FM to control what the users can do. I don’t want them to be able to print or save as etc. I want those actions to be controlled by script and logged. You cannot prevent a user from saving a copy of the document if you allow them to open it with Adobe Reader. I tried placing a button or a field over the web viewer, with access only to the scroll bar, but for some reason the Web Viewer always places itself on top of the button. I want to automate the filling in of fields on webpages. Some of these sites are clean, standard html, others use .asp. If you go to http://80.126.17.197 you then get the screen Instant Web Publishing Select the database Fondsen Select the Gast account and then Aanmelden Select in the top row of icons Zoeken (Search) in the upper right hand corner of the screen you will see the area called Rubrieken (Categories). In the normal local version of FileMaker you would simply enter a new category number and FileMaker would search for this rubriek. I have some images that have to be single page tif in a database. I am using the webviewer to see these and a script to go to next page etc. It USED to work when I had filemaker 8.5 and quicktime 7.1.5 installed. However it doesn't work with the latest version of filemaker (9) Any suggestions of a work around? I have installed alternatiff to no avail. TIA

Hi all, I'm working on a contact manager, and I'd like to have a small google map (web-viewer) showing the location of the address. However, I'm only seeing all the "junk" from maps.google.com. To see the actual map, my window would need to be enormous... Is there a way to center the web-viewer content to the map & location?? Thanks for any input on this, Michael

This url shows up in FM Web Viewer: http://www.filemaker.com/help/MacTOC3.html This url defaults to another FM help site page using FM Web Viewer, but works in a Browser: http://www.filemaker.com/help/02-Adding%20and%20view31.html I suspect the % in the url. Is there a work around? Thanks Steve

Hi there, I am looking for a way to open a website in an external browser window (Firefox or Safari) and tell Filemaker to fill in one or more fields in this website. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as in other cases. The URL doesn’t show anything about the things that went into the website’s fields. So, something like „http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s“ & Company::StockSymbol won’t help. (The website I’m talking about is www.genios.de and the appropriate field is DB-Name oder Kürzel on the left side.) Your help is highly appreciated. ☺ Mike

I'm using google charts API in a web viewer and all my charts keep aligning to the left... anyone know what I need to do to the code to make everything align in the center of the web viewer... the titles keep getting cut off when they're too long. I am trying to use the webviewer to look at a folder on a mapped drive. It works well, but when I try to open a picture in that folder, i get the following IE error message - running a system command on this item might be unsafe ... i can continue and it launches it - but it is just annoying.... I played around with security settings and the only way to I found to eliminate it is by enabling the 'launching programs and files in an IFRAME' for the Internet zone, i tried adding that mapped drive to my trusted sites and i worked with the settings on the local internet. Only enabling on the Internet zone does the trick, but it causes IE to warn me every time i start a browser…

I set a web viewer to show my gmail account. I can basically bookmark conversations URLs to FM fields, the only thin I can't do is pass my user name and password from a couple of filemaker fields to the gmail authentication form in the web viewer... Is anyone aware of a way to do this ? Thanks!

I am looking for the easiest way to grab an image from an Axis network camera whilst in Filemaker. I had the idea of using the web browser to view the image by setting the url to the net address of the camera. I Then want to capture this image in a container field. Here'a a scenario: I created a quickie test DB using a template. I edited a few fields. I changed one field to "Projects" and then imported the Project names from my primary FileMaker database. I have 2 primary questions: 1)I would like Projects to then be able to go to this new database via the Web, select their project, then fill out a few fields and potentially attach a .pdf file and perhaps a .jpg. Hi there... I want to use the Web Viewer to point to our images on a shared network volume: it's a lot faster then to work with container fields. I get this to work and the , mostly, hires tiff show up. However, due to their "hires" nature, they are too big to fit in the web viewer window. As the topic implies, I am wondering how I can achieve this. In case you were wondering why I want to use an Iframe, the answer is simple. My supervisor wants to integrate the filemaker-interface into our intranet web-interface. However, whenever I try to display the fm-webinterface through an iframe, the cgi-script overrides the iframe and the page automatically resizes itself to fit the browser's entire window.. I have filemaker 8.0 and am not planning to upgrade. I need to go to a website and wrote a script go to url that works great. Next step is to automatically log in if possible and also enter the name of the current client into the first field of the website. the website is another database with the same clients as my filemaker database. eg. on client jones in filemaker I want to go to www.alternatedatabase.com and automatically enter jones on the first field of the web database. I need to query a web site by entering an account number, then hitting Submit. I assume that I need to intercept the HTML query as it submits in order to build my URL for Web Viewer. How is this normally done? Is there a utility for MacOSX that will help, or can it be gleaned from View Source on the HTML page (form data is there)? Hello: I´ve done a video database and I use web viewer to load the quicktime that are hosted in a pc with IIS.The problem is that in spite of all the pc´s has the quicktime pro installed just the macintosh can load the films from the wwwroot.Anybody knows why?

I'm working with a series of pages inside a web viewer. On the final page I display a subscription ID that is returned by PayPal's system. I need to get this ID value into a field in FM. GetLayoutObjectAttribute("SubscriptionBrowser" ; "content") gives me the source code of the currently viewed page in the Web Viewer. Similarly, GetLayoutObjectAttribute("SubscriptionBrowser" ; "source") will give me the current URL of the web viewer. Is it possible to script the interaction with the web viewer? When I get to the page I want with the URL, is there a way to automate the clicking of a button, or filling in a field on the web page? Thanks.

I would like to be able to "publish" a set of daily summary reports once per day and have them viewable throughout the day (i.e., not try to reproduce them during the day, since starting information may have changed). I am using the function GetLayoutObjectAttribute ( "wv" ; "content" ) to try to parse info out of a webpage. However when I use this function the resulting html code appears a bit differently compared to when you simply do a copy paste out of the html source tab in Netscape Composer. In FM9 I am passing a filemaker field to do a search on IMDB.com via a web viewer. Each time I commit the record with a new request, Safari is popping up (over Filemaker) with the same web page. Why is this happening and is there any way to prevent this?

Hi! I'm trying to use Google's embedded maps feature with FileMaker to integrate a small map to a database using Web Viewer. That map works if I simply copy/paste its URL from Google, but as soon as I try to alter the URL (to point to a different address in my database, for example) I receive the "forbidden" error from Google. None of my addresses show the pound (#) sign that GMaps seems to hate. I tried pasting the URL from Google in my browser (it works) and changing the street address to something different (it fails). Do I need the API to do this?

I just ran in to a strange problem when exporting data from a field to a text file. The problem is that the "line feed" or "carrige return" (don't realy know the difference) character ends up as a little square instead of a line break when I open the file in Notepad. I'm trying to create a HTML file, and it's quite messed up and hard to read. Anyone had this problem, and solved it?

Hello, Is there any way to sync to Google calendar from FM? I would like to be able to have FM putting an event on a Google calendar for each job entered into the database, then we could have terminals in the shop where everyone could check the calendar to see what needs to be done. The ones in the shop would also need to be able to drag jobs around and have them being updated in the database. The updating could even be done by a script or something on a timed interval, if its not possible to have it automatic. Is there anyway to accomplish this, with a plugin or otherwise? I am struggling with a concept here. I have a database with a field that contains a URL of an image. For example, http://www.blahblah/images/image.jpg. I set webviewer to use that field as its URL. Great, now I can see the image in my layout. The problem being that I am looking for a way to resize or scale the image in the layout to create a sort of a "catalog". That said, these same images are available to me on a local network hard drive via drive mapping if that is an easier solution. I would appreciate any suggestions... Thanks

On the same note, is it possible to execute a JavaScript command in the web viewer without user interaction? In this case it is a search button that needs to be pressed. Hi all I want to extract information from the web viewer. Stock prices to be exact. Following info from previous posts I've used GetLayoutObjectAttribute ("Webviewer" ; "Content") to put the content into a calc field (text).
