    Hello all I have already created a detailed invoice layout associated to an invoices table with several relationships i.e. wholesale clients, invoice payments etc. A client required a packing list recently. All the information is on invoice. So i hightlighted fields not required and used Sliding Printing not to print those fields. Can i button be created and will automatically take data from invoice and create Packing List? I'm sure there is a way! Look forward to any replies. BFGK

    I have a file with data entry page that frequently requires a look back at the reference information. I'd like to allow the user to open the reference files by using a button that opens a "pop up" window displaying the reference info. The reference info is tabular, text file, stored in a layout as a container file. Any thoughts on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

    I have been searching the forum for hours and have found many solutions to similar questions but none seem to fit my problem. I have a field on a layout. That field, Named Non-Active, is a check box with one value. I want to hide that field on the layout unless values in two other fields are met. Field A = x Or Field B = x Non-Active Field = Visible Otherwise Field = Invisible Very simple. All fields are in the same table and on the same layout.     I'm trying to work around filemaker's 12-page per record limit by having a separate report for overflows. I have a seperate input field with instructions to continue into the overflow input field if the input is past a certain length. This goes into a separate report layout that just has the standard header/footer, and this text field for the overflow. I'm setting up a script to print from the main report, then print the overflow report, by record so it prints out properly. Here's the problem: Even if the overflow field is blank (meaning the input data was less than the 12 page limit), I get a page for the overflow, which is blank + headers/footers. I don't want…

    Hey all, I am adding several functions to an existing contacts database (this db is a perfect example of an 'angry fruit salad' database!) And my boss wants a scheduled call back layout that pops up at the push of a button. Now i built him a simple scheduled calls table and a nice little layout that pops up. Now the issue is that the layout in the background is resized when the layout window with the callbacks pops up.   10. Hello! I have a people-table that has the following fields; Firstname, Surname, ID, Salary and SalaryHistory. They are all text fields. Now I want to create a custom layout that allows me to modify my people-info. At the top of the page I want a drop down list that contains the first name and surname of all people in the list.   12. From the other threads, I've put together a script that will automatically find records between two dates using fields (startdate and enddate). I would like the script to be executed automatically when the user changes the dates. To accomplish this, I tried making the field a button that executes that script; however, once I added the script to that button, it no longer allows one to type in to the field. Instead, it seems to just keep executing the script every time I put the cursor over the button to type.   14. Hello, I am having problems printing barcodes in landscape on the page. If I print in Portrait, the barcodes are crisp and thin, in landscape they are thick and blotchy.     Hi. I have 2 report pages (Browse;List) that look almost identical other than one has a Footer and the other does not. In the body of both these pages I have a list of records, and on the footer of the second layout I have details of the record. On the header I have a button that Hides or Shows this record detail, and it just switches between the two layouts. Rather than having two layouts, is it possible to view/hide the footer on the layout, or do I just leave it the way it is. Its just that if I make changes to the layout (database still in development) I have to make them to two layouts rather than one. Anybody got any ideas please? Greg

    I am supporting an FM 7.0 database that is a company manual that flips between layouts in a fashion similar to hyperlinks. It is used almost exclusively in browse mode. Unfortunately one of the dynamic reports I had to create in this "manual" requires a header part. The layout is meant to display in a way that mimics an 8.5 X 11.0 sheet of paper. Unfortunately the boundary between the header and body part creates a line that shoots off to the right for the entire length of the layout spoiling the image of the page. Is there anyway to hide this unsightly line in browse mode without removing the needed header? Thanks.

Layout 2 in Table B (Assignments) shows the same student record and a portal listing the complete list of more than 1000 available assignments for the course.   25. Hello, I'm fairly new to filemaker. I've had to take over use of it in the current company I work for, as its the customer database program my boss has been using for about 15 years now. I had no experience with it when I started here, but in time through the help file and such I've learned alot. Whats stumping me however, is when I want to print a collection of records. It treats every record as a separate page. Even though there is room to fit at least 2 records per page.     I've taught myself the basic and advanced concepts in filemaker pro, Masted most of them. The only problem: Lack of layout experience. I have purchased the Theme Library 3 from scriptology.com - it is a great start, but actually applying it is a bit challenging.   28. I'm using Filemaker to compile a printed report of many different records. One of the fields contains large blocks of text. I would like to have this field in the layout/report change size based on the record data, and information after it to change positions based on size. That was probably unclear, so here's examples. If the data in that field is just a short paragraph, it would stay on one page, and whatever is after it would show up right after it ended.     Hi, I have two fields on my screens that act as titles for that page. They are global and as I move to each page with those fields on them they are set to the screen name, and the description of that page - thus allowing me to keep my layouts fairly universal. Anyhow, when I go to these screens and Set Field for the values they are to display, they stay in a mode that appears as those the field has just been entered. I have tried various things to "move" the focus off that field and whilst the cursor moves the field stays in entry mode. Can anybody give me a tip here please. Greg

  30. This is my first database, so I suspect the solution will be obvious to somebody. I set up 4 tabs and then I entered fields within each of those tabs. Everything looks just fine when I am in layout mode, but then I switch to Browse mode and each tab contains all of the fields from each of the other tabs, resulting in a big mess!     Here is my problem and I cannot wrap my head around it... I have about 3000 sites in 6 States that need to be visited in certain intervals (About 10 times a year each). I have a sites table with all the information and a visits table, both are related by site number. The sites table actually has a field that counts how often a site has been seen.     Need some help! I have a db w/ multiple layouts. I created the attached layout the other day. It is a letter using merged fields. When I go to the layout in the browse or preview mode, it looks excatly like I want it. Then once I hit the print button, the screen changes. I have attached a before and after screen shots.. The first 2 pages are before the 2nd two are after.(The printed copy looks just like the screen after I print. But only part of the page prints.)     Two of the tables I have in my database are a Budgets table and a Budget Line Details table. They are related by three fields, Fiscal Year, Location, and Funding Source. I have a layout setup with Budgets fields above a portal to the Budget Line Details table. Everything works and looks fine on the data entry layout.     Not sure if this is the right place to post it but here it is: Some of my layouts are quite long so that they need to be scrolled down in order to see everything. The problem is that people are used to scroll up and down with the third mouse button or click wheel - whatever you call it. In FM it scrolls through the records and not up and down in the layout. How would I disable that mouse button or make it so that it scrolls up and down it the same layout and not through the records. Thank you.,

I created several layouts containing buttons that, when viewed over IWP, are only clickable in the blank space - not the area of the text box. I figured out that creating a button with the button tool fixes this problem- but I don't want to recreate 20 buttons.

Sorry is in Italian language, hope it can be clear anyway. This is an invoice, the problem stands on the bottom of the page. The Blue and Gray stripe shouldn’t be there but on the next page, but it doesn’t. This stripe is placed in a “Summary when sorted by” part and represent the title of all the subsequent lines that are on the "Body" part.     After using FMPro4 for years on XPPro, all of a sudden (no apparent reason)changing page orientation from Portrait to Landscape won't hold: on screen it looks landscape, but prints in Port. and when I look at page setup again the setting has reverted to Port.     I use Helvetica 9 pt extensively; even have a QuicKey to turn everything in a field to Helvetica 9 pt because it was a comfortable and compact size. When I went up to 8.5, I can hardly read that size of font because its so teeny weensy! In fact, all my font layouts that use Helvetica are screwy. What happened?     Hello, I recently upgraded from FM7 to FM8.5 and now many of my reports are printing incorrectly. I did a bit of sleuthing, and it appears that the line spacing settings are slightly different in 8.5. Single-spaced lines are bunched closer together in FM7 than the are in FM 8.5. The upshot of this is that the text on many of my layouts is now getting cut off when I print it (and when displayed on screen). I can go in manually and adjust the line spacing height from 1.0 lines to, say, 0.8 lines (in Text Formatting > Paragraph > Line Spacing), but this is really tedious and would have to be done in ALL of my 40+ layouts.   52. Is there a way to make a particular field entry accessible or inacessible based on another flag field? Or better yet, is it possible to make layout items disappear or appear based on the flag? Let me try to explain. I have a layout on which a user will check "Yes" or "No" on a flag field with radio buttons.     I've figured out how to hide the status bar and the tool bars but I can't figure out how to hide or deactivate the tool bar at the bottom of the window. Particularly the button that lets you switch between Find Mode, Preview Mode, Etc.     Hi Gang, I have a small layout which contains a handful of fields. One of the fields is a "Drop Down List" field which shows the contents of a table with a very large number of records. This is a Global field that has no Autocalculation. I have it configured to "Auto complete from value List". The weird behavior is when I click on the desired value, the field gets assigned the value, but the drop-down list drops down again. I have to click on an empty area of the layout o get rid of it.   57. 1. Can I do "4 up" printing? My current design calls for pages that are 1/4 of a letter-sized sheet. With columns I can lay out two 1/4 pages on a layout. Can I put two more pages below the first two? The idea is to print 4 directory pages on each letter-sized sheet, then cut it to get the 4 pages. Note that I am not using OS X's "n-up" printing, which reduces the size of multiple pages on each sheet. 2. Can I arrange pages in "folio" format (if that's the word)?     Hi, I have a parent table and a child table. The parent table has a number key called CLID and the child table has a number key called CHID. In the child table I have a second number field called CLID so that in the Relationship I can link the parent and the child. On the Relationship screen it looks good, the parent and child have a one-to-many relationship. Am I doing ok so far?     I have a rather simple database, created in FMP 8.5 and hosted through the 8.0 Server Advanced. I have the Guest account set up as read only and anyone accessing the database through the web only has access to the Guest account. They can read and peruse the database only. But the database has 5 layouts - only one of which I want IWP users to see. However when I go to edit the Guest privilage set the area where I can set layout access is grayed out. Does anyone have any idea how I can limit the IWP access users to just one of the five layouts? TIA

    I have a checkbox field that I've defined with a button over it so when it is clicked it runs a script. The problem is when I go into Find Mode I need to be able to search based on this checkbox, but in find mode the button is still active so I can't directly select the checkbox. This is probably a basic question, is there a way to disable the button when in Find Mode? Thanks.

    Hi I am not sure if this problem should go here or not. This is my case. I have a container field (g_graphic) that is defined as a repetition field from 1 thru 50 and is also a global field. This field holds all the images that are being used in the system. I added one image in g_graphic[40] ie, in 40th repetition. In browse mode, I clicked on the field, then clicked insert->Picture and then selected the graphic file. Everything works fine after that till I close FMP file. the image does not get stored in that field. When I reopen the file, the image is gone.     Hello, I am a total beginner. I have a layout which includes radio buttons. Then I started a second layout for a different table, and for some reason I can't get radio buttons to work anymore. When I go through the steps, I get a value list but no buttons. Just the list of choices, like this: Male Female Where'd those buttons go!!! I've got a typical quotation system, separate header table contains name, address, date, along with subtotal, taxes, shipping, etc. I'd like to produce a layout that will handle multiple pages. The problem I've got is trying to only display the subtotal, taxes, shipping, comment, etc. on the bottom of the last page. I've tried: A) using a trailing grand summary but this floats.     Hi. I am looking to change the background color of a row depending on data in the row. I was thinking of using a technique like changing the text color based on a condition as a field, by having a background block behind the fields on each row and having it change color depending on the condition.     I have a file that includes a variety of multi-line fields that aren't wrapping entire words but rather are line breaking within a word. The words aren't hypenated and there's nothing unusual about them. It's happening for every word that should wrap to the beginning of the next line. Anyone seen this? Am I missing a setting? In the footer of the list I'd like to show totals by payment method, updated automatically as invoices are added. So I walk through the steps to add the portal, but then when I go to browse mode, I can't enter any data into the portal area.   79. This is probably an age old question but I don't see an answer and can't solve it myself. Create a complex, multi-page report with sliding fields, how the heck do you keep fields from getting split in the middle at the bottom of the page. I lose an entire row of data to this problem most times. I've gone so far as to make sure everything was an even multiple of 18px so that if it did break, it would do so evenly--nope, no cigar. I still lose data and print drivers screw things up anyway.

  84. I have a layout with multiple portals in it. I've used sliding to adjust the portals to fit the information within them. Is there a way to eliminate whitespace between the individual portals (bring them closer to each other when they have less data and are shorter then originally set in the layout)? Never mind my newbie question. I figured out what I was doing wrong (not selecting all the objects that I wanted to slide at the same time and setting sliding guidelines).

One particular peice of data displayed here is called Status (sold, returned, tech, rma, etc.) I actually have 2 status fields. One is a regular edit box and another is an calc. field that updates based on when that particular item has been added into an invoice. I've got a sub-summary part breaking on Donor Name, listing the Donor Name and Donor City and Donor State and a summary field of Total Donations. That all works fine.     Hi - I have a list layout that I was adding an active highlight bar to, following one of the demos on the Nightwing site. It was going fine - I had it working, and was just trying to tweak a couple of appearances of fields, and all of a sudden it stopped letting me switch to layout mode on that layout. I can switch on a different layout, but as soon as I come back, it goes into browse mode. I think it has to do with the zippscript that is part of the technique, but not sure why that should keep triggering and bringing me back to browse mode. Thanks, Michael

    Hello All, I've got a database that tracks volunteer information and a related table that tracks the hours the volunteers put in. Each record in the related table only tracks the Department, Month, and how many hours they put in for that month (no date fields involved, strictly text and number). How can I summarize all of the hours for all volunteers (separately and all together), and also split up by which department the hours were for? I'm so confused, I don't know where to start!     Whenever I navigate to anyone of the last 8 layouts in my solution using the layout menus I’m always taken to the last layout. I have 264 layouts. If I select any layout from 1 to 255 using the layout menus, works fine. If I select 256 or any layout beyond 255 I end up on the last layout (264) every time. It’s the same in browse or layout mode. Is this a normal limitation of the layout menu? Thanks

    In MS Excel there is a simple command to transpose data. To do this you copy a row of values then perform a process called "paste special > transpose". Anything that was a row becomes a column and anything that was a column becomes a row. Is there a way to do something like this in table view?
