hey. there is not any status bar in fmpro and advanced. how can it be shown? i didnt find its on/off command in view or window menu.

Has anyone install FM 8.5 on Eeepc with operation system linux? I have installed it using Wine as a DOS emulator. But, I cannot find the exe to run it. Thanks, gkenney

Suddenly FM will not load. I get the general activation error 50040 when I try to start the program. I removed and re-installed FM with the license key, but I still get the same message. FM won't run. It has been working ok for the last year or so. The problem just appeared out of nowhere. Any suggestions?

Is it me or has FMP 10 changed the way to obtain the contents of the first field of a repetition field. Many many scripts are having bugs suddenly. In FMP 9 it works perfect. Unless I use the GetRepetition( field; 1) they are not working properly. Quite a pain in the #$@@ : *sigh*

Server 10 Advanced installed on 2003 server Client is FMP 10 Advanced on XP SP3 box It seemed to be running ok yesterday, this morning I went in to play around a bit and when I tried to open any files. I recieved a coffee cup then it prompted me for a username and password. it is configured to use single-signon with external authentication. My account will not let me in to any files, I am able to open a file with a local filemaker admin account. I checked the logs in the 10 admin console and this was the only message I could find that seemed relevant error code is 628, which occured at 3:04 am today, only other logs are verifying that the backup occured s…

I have a strange problem. I want to start my application with a layout called "menu" . I put this in my startupscript (go to layout "menu"). Switch to layout is empty. I also put in the logoff script thath app should go to layout "menu" before closing. But everytime I start up, I first see another layout where it makes all the calculations on that layout before going to the "menu" - layout. Does anybody know how to fix this problem ?

Hi, I am trying FileMaker Pro 10 trial version. There are some cool new features, but it seems to run slow than earlier versions. Even typing text into text field is significantly slow. I'm an old dBase and Foxbase user, one who worked primarily at the command line level. I'm slowly making my way with Filemaker Pro v7 and want to simply print out the file structure - I guess they are now called data tables............but despite many searches through the Help menu, I've been unable to find out how to print the structure. Since using FileMaker 10 Advanced, anytime I have clicked on the boundary between two columns to resize a column in a FileMaker dialog box (such as the Data Viewer and most of the Manage dialogs), I get about 5-10 seconds of the spinning beachball, then an application crash. This is on a Mac Pro running 10.5.6. Thought I would ask if anyone else has seen this before I make an official bug report.

I'm not new to Filemaker, but with ver 10 I wanted to make a dedicated effort to understand the principles behind the bundled Starter Solutions. I figured I might pick up a tip or two from Filemaker. I had a couple of layouts in my existing solution that contained a header and body. The header contains certain graphics that I want to be in a fixed position while those in the body part move underneath the header when I scroll down. I just noticed that it's not happening anymore since I made some modifications to better match the new FM 10 interface. My backup copy seems to be functioning properly. Did I do something, turn something on or off, or what am I missing? What would make it nt continue to scroll underneath the header?

I actually have two issues, but they are somewhat connected. 1.) I have created a tab panel for the different layouts that I want to display, and then I have duplicated that layout to use as the "un-editable" layout that offers different scripted buttons etc. I have scripted movement through the tabs and layouts with buttons, so that it doesn't appear to be a tabbed environment. The problem that I am having is that one of my buttons is supposed to switch layouts, go to a particular tab, and then enter Find mode. It does all of this great, but once in find mode, none of my fields are editable. It is like they are locked. You can't click to select them or ente…

In Filemaker Pro 9, when I open a database, the printer is set to the default printer in Mac OS X. This is very convenient since I can then specify the printer prior to using a database - particularly if I travel with the database from office to office. In Filemaker Pro 10, this behavior no longer exists. When I open a database after specifying a default printer in Mac OS X, Filemaker Pro 10 continues to use the previous printer. Since Filemaker Pro does not have a SET PRINTER command in Mac OS X, the only way around this is to print a blank page so that I can set the printer in the print dialog box. First post here so If I mess anything up now you know why. Just installed the trial version of 10 ( been using 5.03 ) when trying to use the mail command it opens up Eudora which is not my default email client ( as far as I can tell ) So I tried to solve the issue by removing all the files & referances I could find to do with Eudora. All that did was cause filemaker to give me an error telling me that the file was no longer there. Seems to me that the "Mail" entry in the ini file has to point windows to another file somewhere. Hi, So FMP 10 automatically resorts a foundset if the sort criteria is changed. Good idea gone very bad for some use. Let's says I sorted my product list on their price, and I'm reviewing them to check and modify the prices. Let's say I've 200 SKU to review So If I change a price, the sku disapear from where I was looking, and so I'm loosing track about what I did review and what I did not review yet, and there's a lot of chance that I will be presented the same sku on the bottom of the list. Hi, I just bought FMP Advanced and have created 3 new databases. I would like to put a button that has 3 buttons on each database that would allow me to toggle between databases. I have never done this and really dont have a clue as to how to go about doing this. Can someone shed some light on how to do this. To clarify, I have 3 databases. One called Contacts, one called projects and one called completed work reports. I would like a button at the top of each database that would allow me to click and jump between databases. Hello, with FM 10 the User can modify the Status Area and there´s nothing you can do to control this, except locking the Status area completely In our solution, adding a new record is made by a Button, trigerring a script, that is filling some data in special fields. As mentioned, we can lock the Status Area in browse mode. But in search mode? In search mode, you can´t lock the status area because the user should be able to do a search by omitting records! So far the only way for my other clients is to leave file maker open and running. Will the copy of the database that Time Machine backs up to the Time Capsule get corrupted? Can the database be backed up safely while it is open? On top if time machine I will be using Chronosync for nightly over the network backups as well. But again for the morning help to work we have to leave FMP open on our main iMac... Am I safe? Or am I risking corruption? Thank you for any help Damien

Hello I actually made a form well a layout that mimics a form I use daily and it seems to work great! But I have two questions. One is there a setting that will let me search records but not edit them? As in I search a case number it fills in the fields but any changes reflects on the table. I would like the data filled in but not able to edit it. Also I am learning on a test database that reflects our main. This of course is so I do not screw up the important one! hello FM Forum! I know this has been posted before but there was no response back in August. I have been running FM9 on a standalone PC in Vista Business and have had continual crashes. I have just upgraded my machine, though downgraded to XP but running 64-bit to address the 8 gb RAM installed. Does anyone know if FM Pro 9 will work with XP 64-bit op sys on a stand-alone pc (not Mac)? The chaps at FileMaker don't seem to think it will, but it seems to have installed, launched and run a couple of queries ok so far. I came across this article in the KB: 7071 Miscellaneous Behavior Changes in FileMaker Pro 10 It has some interesting content: in particular I was interested in the Get( LastODBCError ) In FM9 and before, when the import was all good, the error returned was "00000", but it seems now with FM10 that the result is "empty". This forum is just as much over my head as filemaker is! Please bear with me as I am very new to FMP. We have 3 iMacs in our office and one host the filemaker database. As of right now it is setup to connect to remote with the internal ip of the iMac on the network. One problem I have is filemaker has to open and running all the time on the main host machine. If not the others can not open it. Is there a way to host the database independent of filemaker? I hate to bring this up but when we used MS Access it was a database file that sat on a hard drive of one of the pc's and all could access it via a shortcut. This was VERY convenient! I am trying to highlight the active field using the new GetFieldName() function: Get (ActiveFieldTableName) & "::" & Get (ActiveFieldName) = GetFieldName ( Self ) I have the same formula attached to a tooltip. FMSA10 / Mac OSX10.5 running IWP. I have replaced the IWP Homepage with my own very simple HTML page with hard links to my IWP Databases. All works fine but... The placed graphics in my HTML page do not display! I built the page with Dreamweaver and it displays fine when opened directly in a browser. In other words I want my new record script to go to the assigned field or object in every table layout. I am trying to get filemaker to load databases from an external volume. I have an alternate location setup for the filemaker databases, but, when I boot the machine, Filemaker loads the databases in the default location, but not in the alternative location. However if I stop the database server and the start it, everything loads. I suspect filemaker may be launching before the external driver gets mounted at boot. I would like to delay the launch of filemaker on boot. I called tech support and they did not have any ideas on how to do this. Filemaker tech support did give me the command line start/stop. I'm having troubles with the Open Remote function in Filmaker 9 Advanced on Leopard. When I choose this command, nothing happens. One would expect a window with access to FM servers and remote files, but nada... It works fine on 3 other (Tiger) machines that access the same server. I've chekced my firewall settings, checked if something is blocking port 5003. I've reinstalled FM again from the cd. The first time I hit the Open remote command, Leopard asked me if FM remote connections should be allowed. I did allow this. I've even turned off the firewall. Still no luck. This is driving me mad! Any suggestions?

Installed Filemaker Pro 10 Trial. During the extraction of files I noticed the grayed-out path pointed to C:Program FilesIBMLotusNotesData. Installation added a folder called FMICD at that location that now contains the install files for FMP 10. No User or System variables point to that location. It appears there is a change with 10 that I discovered when running a script. In a list view layout with header / body / grand summary / footer, the grand summary will stretch to fill the gap between the header and footer depending on how many body rows there are. If you omit all records from the found set all you will see is the header / grand summary / footer. In this space I have used either a field or web viewer - calculated to show record count or "End of List" or "No Records Found" occasionally add a button. As i don't mind the user landing on a list with zero found. However in 10 it appears that the sort operation is evaluated even when the found…

In version 9, the Text Formatting toolbar had buttons for Increase/Decrease Font Size, Single/Double Space, and - most importantly - Custom Space which provided quick access to the Paragraph setup window. All these are missing from the new formatting bar in v.10.

I'm trying to make a database based on an elderly care facility, one table has the names of the residents ("Resident Info" Table, their address and the date they came into the care home, and the other is a table with details of people who pay for those individual residents("payee" table). I have been playing around with FM 10 Advanced on a Mac G4 and I have FM Server 9 on a G5 with 2.5 GB (1.6 GHz running OS 10.4.x). It appears that the FM client is running slower and I am interested if anyone has any data on whether the FM Server 10 produces any speed bump. I'll probably install it anyway but I would like to know if anyone has noticed faster or slower speeds.

I've just upgraded to FMP 10 and built my first set of runtime files. They're over 5 megabytes larger than the same application under 8.5. A quick check of the runtime directory revealed that the following subdirectories have been added: Microsoft.VC80.CRT Microsoft.VC80.MFC Microsoft.VC80.MCFLOC SASL2 XTPTrans Can someone tell me what these are for? ... IWP? ... SQL Access? I'd like to jetison them like I have the unnecessary dictionaries. But, of course, I don't want latent problems showing up. Thanks for any help.

Has anyone else noticed that under Vista the background color for tooltips has changed from yellow to a light blue gradient? And worse, that it renders as a banded effect, not a true gradient? Was this an advertised "improvement"? Is there a way to change it back? I've checked my desktop settings under Properties and they're the same as they've always been. FMP is somehow overriding them. For most folks, I suppose this isn't a problem (other than the banding effect). But I have some companion help panels that are color-coordinated to match the previous tooltip backgrounds. I took a look at the new FM Pro 10, and have to say that it looks pretty nifty. I like the looks of the new features and ever simplifying the interface, but I do have an issue.... I just purchased FM Pro 9 for my company as a means of keeping track of all our sales info. It was delivered Nov. 24th. I have 2 separate databases that is hosted on FMServerAdv 9 and IWP is enabled on both the database. Prior to upgrading, my filtered portals are working fine. The field that I used to filter the portal is in db1 and the portal is linked to db2. But after upgrading to server advanced 10, the portals doesn't show anything, the fields are blank, but it only happens on IWP. If I use the client FMProA10 everything is ok. At first, I thought the new version does not open the DB2 automatically when you log in. But when I checked the server, the user is logged in to both db. Help?

I upgraded a person's machine from 8 to version 9 standard. Now when she prints just about any layout in that file it's cutoff. If she goes and changes the graphic scaling in the printer like we've done for many years, it really doesn't seem to matter what we set it to, it cuts off in the same place. (Shows in preview this way). I brought the file to my machine runnnig 9 Advanced and same issue. Doesn't matter if I change printers, Adobe, etc., same issue. Not sure where to start? Suggestions?

FMP 10 trial vs FMP 9 Advanced 269s vs 299 s = 238 records and 242s vs 270 s = 514 records (less complex because some empty) Test was done locally (no server involved) Filemaker Advance 9.03 vs FM Trial client 10. File in the exact same state (copied from a backup each time) so there's no caching difference Maybe client is faster than advanced but I don't think so. Hey all, I did some searching, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Can someone point me towards a compatibility guide for FM 10? Meaning, is Filemaker Pro 10 client able to connect to a Filemaker 9 server, can Filemaker Pro 9 clients connect to a Filemaker 10 server, etc. Obviously, a complete upgrade to 10 would be the best path, but with our remote users, a sweeping rollout is not an option. Can filemaker look (with the purpose of looking and editing) into the Apple's Address book as if it was an outside table/DB? If so, how would it be done?

: does anyone have a list of known bugs in filemaker 9? I know there are some. (I'm sure filemaker is aware of most of them but, from experience they do not let the public know what they are until there is a fix. Good for sales, bad for everything else.) If there is a list, I'd love to see it. If there is not, I invite all to post any bugs they have found here. (I once spent three months tring to figure out what was wrong with my solution only to find out that Filemaker knew of an indexing issue and did not publish any info on it until there was a revision that fixed it. I for one would like to avoid anything like that in the future.)

Slow Screen Redraw Windows machines -Help! We have a database thats been used for almost 2 years. It's in Filemaker 9 and it had been working fine. It's running on Windows XP machines (the file server using filemaker server advanced). I connect remotely through VPN to make changes occassionally to layouts etc.. My home computer is a macbook pro. Every since last week all of a sudden all the windows machines are extremely sloooooooooooooooow,whether they connect off site or on site, the screen redraws constantly. Anyone know how I can download a trial copy of 9 Advanced? I want to put a copy on a client's computer (and activate it) for short term development, but I don't have the app itself. In the past, I've downloaded the trial of 9A and used my license key with no problem. But I can't find a link to that download anymore.

The DB consists of 50 plus files and we are starting to discuss moving forward with an effort to combine all files into 4. Our company current uses Server for people to access the files via intranet and may start allowing access over the internet both using FM9 local copies. Not sure where to post this, sorry if it’s in the wrong place. I’m trying to understand the difference between a VLA and an SLA. I’m looking for a 50 seat license. On the VLA a 50 seat license costs $241, while on an SLA a 50 seat license costs $159. Obviously there must be a major difference between the two to account for the price discrepancy.. what am I missing ?

This is driving me nuts, DDR report (XML/HTML) crashes when scripts are included in the report. No problems running DDR on other files. Tried file recovery, optimize/compact/file, I even tried deleting all scripts in the file but whenever I run DDR with scripts selected on this particular file FM crashes. I tried it on a different machine and same thing. Are there any logs I can look into? Our main file has some 1500 scripts so migration to a fresh empty file is not an option. I tried running DDR on the same file with FM 8.5 Advanced and it worked fine. Running FM 9 Advanced 9.0v3 / WinXP Any ideas?

I'm migrating from an Excel-based list to a simple FM Pro (8.5) database. One of my fields is a set of radio buttons. What I need to do is take my list of 1,000+ entries in Excel, and set one of the radio buttons for each of those entries. The key field here is a unique registration number, which exists in both the FM Pro database and my Excel sheet. All computers have the latest OS installed (of either 10.4 or 10.5) and all machines are running FileMaker Pro 8.5 (latest update/version). Hi All, We're about to upgrade from FM 7 to FM 9. Is it possible to purchase a handful of Pro Advanced copies for development, and get copies of Pro for the rest of the users? Or would the functions developed in Advanced not work for Pro users?

I've very new to filemaker so sorry for the basic question here. I am using filemaker pro 9, as a simple one PC database. I often export columns from the database for use in excel. I have a column where the majority of data is numerical, but some data isn't - for example, some entries are S24, instead of just 24. When I export this column, and open the text file in excel, it removes the letter. What can I do to fix this?

I'm brand new to Filemaker & I've just installed the trial version of Filemaker 9. I setup a database using a sample template, but have a question on field entries. My field contains an alpha-numeric "ID" for each record. In this case - 1A1,1A2, 1A3,...1A9,1A0,2A1,2A2,2A3, etc. Is there a way to prevent someone from creating a new record with an already existing "ID"? Info in fields following the ID should be changable. I did search on the forum, but didn't really see what I was looking for. Thanks for any help.

I am using 10.5.3, Filemaker 9.0v3, on a MacBook Pro core duo. Has anyone else experienced Filemaker just freezing on you (forever spinning beach ball) and then Filemaker crashes with the typical mac message that Filemaker just crashed, no other program was effected? I am not experiencing the problem when my computer goes to sleep or waking up from sleep. The problem seems to happen randomly, and sometimes when I change from Layout mode to Browse mode. I never had these issues in 10.4. I may switch back to Tiger.

Hi there, I work at a company that has just rolled out version 9 across a few thousand workstations. I pressed for upgrade to 9.0v3 but have been told they're busy and it's scheduled for Oct/Nov. Are 9.0v2 and v3 important ? and if so, any suggestions for how I might respond to the deployment officers given we have many folks using our FileMaker databases?

I'm thinking of upgrading to FM pro and server v9.0 and accessing the database remotely from another country. What is a good minimum speed requirement for the internet connection for the client side to have? The blank FM database is around 30MB in size without data and there will be around 3-4 simultaneous users accessing it remotely.

On one of our XP Pro installations of FM9 Pro, the program can take up to 40 minutes to open after a reboot. There are not any scripts running at startup, no db's are being opened at startup -- only FM9. After the program successfully loads it can be closed and restarted within an expected time span (< 5 sec.). The glacial opening only occurs after the system has been restarted. Task Manager reports @ 35 k (@ 50%) of the program loads within seconds then halts and the remainder loads 10-40 minutes later. I have tried uninstall-reinstall with no changes. I've set up an SQL request to import training-related data from an external (Oracle) database. The request works fine except that 5 records out of the 54 imported, display the wrong completion dates. In each case the month is correct, but the day and year are not. I've also tried returning the dates as text with the same result. The same query entered through SQL_Plus returns all 54 records correctly. Crazy.
