    I created a file path field so as to access my quicktime movies via the web viewer. I set the calculation to the filepath field and I'm getting nothing. Do these movies automatically load like a web page. Is there additional scripting required? Is there a sure way to determine whether you have the correct file path? Thanks for any suggestions.

    I am attempting to display a variety of dates which are entered through fields with drop down menus. I want the user to be able to select certain date "types" select the date and time, and then press a button which displays a list of the entered dates and related types and times in a portal which Is sorted by date. I have managed to write a script which creates a new record in a related table and displays the info correctly, however when you then change one of the drop down options it changes the item in the portal. I guess I'm missing a final step in the script which includes a "do not edit" from this field (I'm hoping you could still edit the portal field in the portal …

    I just learned how to relate the same table occurance allowing me to create a portal on a form layout within the same table, but after thinking about it I thought I had read somewhere that portals would not work in a web published enviroment. I started out with a separate list view layout and had a header containing a couple buttons, and then later read that the header would not work properly in a web published environment. If both of these things are true is there another approach to accomplishing my objective. I would prefer having a list type view contained on the same form layout if that is possible.     In FMP 8.5 does using a portal still lock (flag as in use) the current record and therefore keep other users from accessing the same portal? Edit: Clarification If 2 users are on the same record of a shared database and one user accesses a portal (activates the portal by scrolling or clicking into the portal), does it keep the other user from accessing the same portal with the new version of FMP 8.5? I know this is the case with earlier versions of FMP, I'm just wondering if this is still a limitation in v8.5 of Filemaker

    Using FP6. Last year I created a labels layout of 40 labels, 4 across and 10 down, which I need to do again. According to Avery website, this should be label L7654. I have US, UK and AUS labels in the FP program files but when I try to create the layout, this label and its inkjet equivalent are not there. Is there a way of checking the layout I created last year to confirm the Avery number or, even better, a way to copy a layout from one file to another which has the same fields? Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Just upped to 8.5... besides the ability to end a script in such a way that you are at a button or tab rather than a field, I'm wondering what can be done-interfacewise-with the new functionality. Seems like that GetLayoutObjectAttribute function should have been half a dozen functions! At any rate, can't figure out how it's useful. Is there a "guide to using objects in 8.5" somewhere?

    Hello, I'm sorry this is such a simple question, but I have tried to find the answer and I just can't. I have a table with 60+ fields. When I am browsing records and I choose to view my records as a table, I can only see about 50 of the fields as I scroll horizontally. Is there a preference that determines how many fields are displayed in the table? Thanks

Each record has a rather large number of fields: thirty questions each with five parts, plus another fifteen independent questions.     I am working with an order entry system that I have designd and am using a protal for the first time. The order entry pages has all of the basic customer information and the portal is linked to "Line items" for which an individual order may have 2 or 30. I'm trying to make the printed copy show all of the related line items regardless of the number, but can't figure out how to expand or slide the protal (or the information below the portal) to do this. It seems as if the only way to adjust the "View" is by specifying thhe number of rows in the portal set up box. I would like the portal to show as many or as few line items as are related. Help!!     Hi all - Is it possible to trigger a script when a new value is chosen from a pull-down list? I tried making a transparent button that sits over the list box (like you do over a portal row), but then I could only click the button and had no access to the pull-down list. If I put the button only over the arrow for the pull-down, then I could pull down the list, but the button wouldn't work. I would like to have the script triggered every time a new value is chosen from the list. Any ideas? Thanks, Jeff

    For some reason my pop-up menu only shows the first record of a list vales derived from another field in another table. I selcted roleID and the second field is RoleName.     I am trying to create a purchase orders database. I am new to filemaker and I am struggling with certain aspects of it. In MS Access I created a subform and allowed the users to select the item and the rest of the subform populated then peformed calcs on the items chosen. The purchase orders where then created based on the orders table that was created. I think I need a portal to do the same thing in FM. I can set up a button to display the document, but I'd like for the button to only be visible in the display if there are actually contents in the container field.     I hoping i've got the right area to post this query. I'm trying to get it that when my solution opens a new window from a button click that the new window in front is the only one selectable and if you click on the back window it stays in the back until you have clicked a close/commit button on the front layout. I've had rough success with this through the pause script step in the button script that creates the new window, but doing it this way needs the operator to click the cancel/continue button in the status area. My solution doesn't use the status area in any of the layouts so i was hoping there is a script step that i'm not seeing that may achieve my goal. …

    I need a simply way to get a count of the portal records in my layout. The portal is part of a reporting module. It is linked to my main job tracking db. I have various portals that show me jobs printed on a certain day, shipped on a certain day and whether or not they are late based on a comparison of due date and ship date. I would like to have a simple counter at the bottom of my layout showing me how many of each I have in a given day.

The employees are in different categories. What I want to do is have 3 PopUp menu fields that return the Employee Number back to the Company Table. Those three popup menu fields should only list the employees from a specific category (Admins, Directors, and Associates).     Hello I'm designing a database where I'd like to have some fields hiden on my print layout if they're empty. The fields in question will rarely have info in them. Is there a way of hiding them (or more specifically their labels) from a layout if the fields themselves are empty? I can't think of any little tricks to achieve this. I thought they'd maybe be a script that would use the sliding/printing control but I can't find that option. Any thoughts? Thanks

    This is definitely the smallest file i've ever posted ... someone noticed that in 8.5 os x updates the window dims in real time ... so here is a mac tested file which resizes an image in the fly ... sure this will be useful ... obviously if you only set it to resize height or width it would be to scale ... but can't work out how to test for size of web image.     I created a webviewer field that displays the directions (using yahoo maps) from our office to whatever address might be in the current record. It works great but i dont know how to print the directions. I created a layout where i resized the webviewer field to fit a Letter size page (even if it's multiple pages long) but the width of the web page showing the direction doesn't fit a letter size sheet of paper... So erm... how do i print the content so it fits?

    I'm trying to filter portals with checkboxes. Each record in the portal can have 1 of 5 different status's. Above the portal is a checkbox for each status. I'd like the user to see only the records that match the status of the checked items. After working on this for several hours I'm beginning to think it can't be done in Filemaker. It seems I need an "OR" instead of "AND" operator when creating the multi-value relationship. I've attempted several workarounds with no success. Has anyone solved this or have I ran into a limitation of Filemaker?

    I currently use a pop up menu to display a number of items from a value list. When I select the menu it displays a long single column list that I have to scroll through to reach the bottom. Is it possible to change the format so that it is displayed in perhaps two or three columns? This way all the values will fit on the screen at the same time. I have tried a pop up list but this takes a very long time to display.

    After quite a bit of searching and all, what I'm trying to accomplish is for an auto body repair shop, but I need to allow for selection of the year (which is in the vehicles table and a field called years with two digit values separated by a space ie: '00 01 02' but I need to be able to select a year for instance, 00, then it'll allow me to select a make, so all the makes (makes field within the same table) availible under year 00 will show.     Several places in our in house solution I have layouts with a portal that has conditional graphics calculation fields to highlight a particular row or rows in the portal. If the value of one of the fields in that record matches some value of another field, it uses one graphic, if not, it uses another graphic. Often it is highlighting a row that the user has clicked, which in turn has filled in a field in the master table which controls what is shown in another portal. In FileMaker 6 and previous, I could do this and the row in the portal that is in essence where you click to get a new record would be using the graphic which was for the no match condition. Each competitor has their own record in the other database and their names are contained in the same field. I want to be able to bring each competitors spend into a single record on a TAB layout and show each comeptitors spend.     I am have a strange problem where the cursor appears to be out of alignment. The cursor is 5 or 6 spaces to the right of the characters being typed. Hence, if I am typing here[color:FFFFFF]..........|<--the cursor is here. I have tried changing fonts and recovering the file with no luck. Has anyone else ever heard of or had this problem?

    Hi, im new to using Filemaker. I was wondering if there is a way to make a master layout? Say I have a set of standard buttons that appear on every layout in the same place, do I have to create (or copy and paste) them everytime. Copy and pasting them is ok, but getting them in exactly the same place everytime takes a lot of time (unless there is a easy way I dont know of yet). There are two files, with a many to many link created in a third. File one: people. File two: events. File three: join file.     I have an order entry database in which each record originally had a container for the artwork that is to be used on the order. The quickest method I had of inserting the artwork was to simply copy the elements in the Illustrator file and paste it into the container. Now that I've been doing this for over a year and the file is getting rather large, I've decided to move the artwork to a separate file and put a portal with the artwork container in each record.     Hello - I've got a puzzler, at least for me... Here's my setup: I have a data-entry layout ("Certs") that allows the user to associate an inspector with a part. There *should* be only one record which links an inspector and a part, but it's the record ID field that FileMaker checks to see if the record is unique. A user can click the New Record button and FileMaker creates a new record. The user then selects a part and an inspector.     Hi, I have an invoice, which contains a portal, which brings in the orders that have the same 'invoice number' as the current record in the invoice layout. It has multiple pages, which are basically duplicates of the first but the portals are set to display the next records, so 1-3 for the first page and 4-6 for the second etc. I have read that it isn't proper database practice to print portals though, but I can't think of any other way to do it.   49. I have made a database to track my client's invoices. Each client may have many invoices and each invoice may have many line items, each with a value. I wish to be able to see a list of a client's invoices in a portal with a total for each invoice and a running total showing the balance of their account increasing with each incvoice listed. The problem I have with the way I have set it up is that when a line item is modified in an invoice, the running total in the portal in the clients layout is not being updated.     I am Previewing an Invoice-LineItem layout that is based on a List View of the LineItems table, and uses subsummary parts (breaking on Invoice ID) to print the top and bottom portions of the Invoice. Usually it works: more often than not, as I page through the previewed page images, everything looks right. Every now and then, however, I come to an Invoice where none (or almost none) of the fields are filled in. Here's the kicker: if I page forward, and then page back to the blank invoice, usually it's properly filled in.     Hi, im new to using Filemaker. I was wondering if there is a way to make a master layout? I know I can duplicate layouts, but say I have a set of standard buttons that appear on every layout in the same place, and I want to add or change a button, I have to create (or copy and paste) them everytime. Customer will leave deposit and pay balance on pick up or lay-by the order. I’ve another table recording all customer payment with unique ID.     Hi, I saw/heard this somewhere (maybe maybe matt petrowski???) that if you rename a layout in 8.5 the change to that name will no longer automatically propagate throughout your the file. this is a 'gotcha' i think. I am going to call this 'auto renameing'. In in previous versions if you renamed the layout, it would be renamed everywhere in the file. I actually liked this and couldn't believe it worked (reliably)... but it did. Worked for scripts too and so on..   69. I have a list of users and each has a field for either director or vp. I want to built a value list for both. In otherwords, I want one list with only those whose value is "yes" for vp and the same for director. My Portal allows creation of new records, and this works fine - enter data in fields on last portal row and the record is created in the related database upon commit. However.... ...can I 'shuffle' the order of these Portal records? More specifically, all I want to do is click a button (in a row), which adds a blank record above (or below) the row with the button in it. Make sense? I guess some kind of sorting might be the key. Currently records are NOT sorted in the Portal, which is fine (records appear in the order they are created). Possible??

    I'm printing a report with Sub-Summary parts in the layout. I would like to have a summary of the subsummary parts, the same way a trailing grand summary would work except multiple occurances on a page. Example: Office Supplies 25.00 Internet Provider 50.00 Phone 30.00 TOTAL EXPENSES 105.00 Sales 200.00 Subscriptions 75.00 TOTAL INCOME 275.00 I suppose I could use a Trailing Grand summary and print each one on a seperate page, but is there a way to do this all on one page?

When an order is complete I would like to be able to click on the complete button and have it put some kind of stamp across the front of it that says "closed" I know I have seen this done before. I often have repeating customers so when I search for customers orders I want to be able to easily see the ones that are closed.

    hi Is there any way to permanently change the order of records in my database? I know I can sort them by right clicking in a field but I want to change the order that they are in when I open the database - at present they are in creation order, so if I create a record for a journal volume 9 issue 3 then create volume 9 issue 1 afterward, my database will always show issue 3 before 1.   78. OK so I recreated the nav buttons onto my header along with a record count field. But I have a script that is a goto and come back script, in which to come back you need to click continue or to stay there you click cancel in the status area. Is there any way to get these onto my recreated nav area in the database? If not is there a work around to only show the status area when the script requires it? I assume that show status area then hiding it will solve this issue?

I've got this working fine with FM's own fields but can't seem to make it happen with Web viewers.   81. Greetings folks! I've got two tabs set up, each containing fields from two separate tables. I've placed a button on each tab and have assigned the new record script to each button. When on "tab a", I want the new record button to enter a new record for the table represented on "tab a". When on "tab b", I want the new record to enter a new record for the table represented on "tab b". However, when clicking the button on "tab b", it starts a new record on "tab a".     Hi All I am having a weird problem. I have a date field named "activityDate". This field has been formatted to display date as "dd/mm/yyyy". I use this field in a Portal. The problem is when I click on this field and enter a date and then exit out of this field, it changes month to day and day to month. Eg: if I enter 11/12/2006 for 11th, dec, 2006, then it gets changed to 12/11/2006 when I exit the field. It works fine if "dd" has a number greater then 12. Any help would be greatly appreciated....     Here is what I would like: A portal showing one row that has a number of fields, and a button that will move the user from one portal row to the next. I can do this, if I choose "Show Vertical Scrollbar." It works exactly as I wish, and I just don't use borders, so the user never sees the scrollbar. In IWP however, the scrollbar is visible. What I need to know, is rather or not it is possible to use the Go [Next] Portal Row script step when the portal does not have a vertical scroll bar. It works great to add fields at the end of the url but I can't get it to work if the search is in the middle of the url.     I have been using portal filtering for some time but came across a potential error that I am trying to resolve. When my portal filter is empty the calculation used in the relationship defaults to "0" (zero) which shows all of the related portal records. The problem that this creates is that any filtered fields that contain data starting with a non-alphanumeric character do not show up in the portal when the filters are blank which is not the desired result. To put it another way only items starting with 0-9 and a-z will display when the filters are blank. So I need to switch from using "0" to using some other chacter that is lower on the indexing list.     Hey everyone, I have a Customer Quote report that totals line items I have quoted. Everything is just how I want it except one thing. Most quotes contain 4 items or less and I have had no problem keeping it all on one page. Because of this I put the totaled summary field in the footer so it will always print at the bottom of the page. Well I just did a quote that needed 2 pages. As you may know, now the "grand total" is not only on page two(where I want it), but on page one. In these situations, because it will happen again, how (if possible) can I make the Grand Total only appear on the last page at the bottom.

  100. I have created a subsumary report. I have field called Disbursements that shows the amt disbursed for different projects. The summary field is DisbursementSum which sums the total of Disbursements. Disbursements is a numeric field that is indexed. The sub summary part it is sorted by location. The summary field of DisbursementSum is not showing any data. I am viewing it in preview mode. Any ideas what I did wrong? Thanks in advance for any assitance.
