FM 11 - 20 clients running off Server 11 and using Windows XP 2 - While in find mode, three of those clients can't see what they are typing until they click out of the field. This is only happening in FileMaker. No strange behaviour in any other programs. Windows administrator checked that everything is the same on machines with and without the problem. Measures taken: 1. Made sure hardware and Windows settings matched between machines 2. Made sure FM memory settings were the same. Have folks found that the FMS(A)9 admin client does not work properly on OS X 10.6? We have some FMSA9 servers still running (servers actually running on 10.4 themselves), and I'm trying to administer with my MacBook Pro running 10.6.1. I can login to the server OK using the admin client, but when I go to the clients, database or schedule list, I get the following error: Admin Server Connection Error: An unknown error has occurred. I know FMS(A)9 is not officially supported on 10.6, but I was hoping the admin client would at least continue to run properly. Our IT department wants to upgrade our server hardware and OS. The current supported server OS at the Smithsonian is Windows Server 2008 (32-bit is okay, though not preferred.) We have a - two machines - FM 11.02 install on a Windows 2008R2 Server with IIS7.5. PHP was installed on the webserver by the FM installation procedure. This is a fresh install and not other applications are running on this webserver and/or on the other machine, the database server. The webserver has a certificate installed and two virtual directories, one for images and another one for php-scripts used to upload images into the FM database. I began developing custom Web pages on our domain that used the XML data to update our members' profiles online and to pass those updates to Filemaker. My question is this: We will be upgrading to Filemaker Server 11 and I just assumed we would need to purchase the Advanced version of Filemaker Server (FMSA) 11 - but now, after having done some research, that doesn't appear to be necessary. hi there. i hope i put this in the right place. i had a database that had links to images on my hard drive on a pc. the images worked as i scrolled through the different records. i have moved over to a mac running fmserver11. the images don't come up any more. i know that i have to change the links to imagmac.... but i view this database on bot pc and mac now so i want to make it work on both. any help would be great.

Hi Guys, I'm scratching my head over this one and its probably something simple, I have multiple clients, some winXP and some Win7 running FM11, all connecting to a single database via server11 on a Win7 machine. We seem to loose random data from fields, usually within tabs, one minute its there the next gone! not all records have this issue so its completely random - Im just not sure where to start looking for the problem. I know, the name says it all. We are still using FileMaker Server 5.5 with no plans to upgrade at all. Ever. But we need to move to a new server, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any sucess with Server 5.5 on Windows 2008? We currently use it on 2003, and it works fine. I'm not an IT guy and our IT guy is not a Filemaker guy. We have Filemaker Server 8 v4 on one server and we want to move it, and the fm files we are using, to another server. What is the best way to do this? Should we just uninstall 1st and re-install on new server, any pitfalls, etc;? We don't want to have any problems. Thank you very much.

I have a separation model - UI and Data files hosted on FMS11 on windows server 2008. Clients are using FMP11 (I'm using FMP11Adv) on OSX. I have set different levels of access priveleges including [Full Access] for admin (Me). In the past if I closed the UI and Data files on FMS, removed them, copied them to a shared drive and then copied them from there to my local machine these would behave the same as the hosted version in terms of access. Today, these files copied from FMS11, either from backed-up versions or following closure and removal of the current hosted files, only open, via the UI file, on my local machine with Guest privileges. I'm trying to create a file with FileMaker Server Scheduler. If I run the script, it works just fine. If I schedule the script to run, I get a "scripting error 800" (Unable to create file on disk). I'm thinking it is some kind of a permissions issue, but I can't seem to figure out what account FMServer 11 is using to try to create the file.

I am running FMP 8.5 clients on a variety of OSX and Windows platforms, with the actual Filemaker databases hosted on FMS 5.5 on OSX10.5. The next Windows machine I get will have to be Windows 7, which means it will have to run FMP11. I have a cabinetshop that has several databases which are hosted on a webserver that I rent space on. I have them on this server so that I can upload drawings from a remote location and have the guys be able to access them directly in the shop. The current workpath is to upload a PDF document directly into a container field. I periodically purge unused records because the file size gets bloated and performance starts to slow down. I have a FM Server 11 (Adv on Win) installation where I need to update one table via a server-side script at 2am every morning. Although most users will be logged off at that time, there is always the possibility that someone will be connected. Is there any feature in FM Server that allows me to force a disconnect of all users of a particular database while a server-script runs? For files on FileMaker server, simple file references seem to work best and it seems that normally you do not need to take folders into account even if they are being used. Except... I have a client with about 40 files on their server and one of them is much larger than the others. So for backup schedule purposes it has been placed in a separate folder, and it is backed up less frequently. When I open a FM remote file the records DO NOT display properly. None of the styling or buttons I have applied to the fields are visible. This is a problem with 2 of 3 users. The 3rd user (using same version of FM--9.0v3) has no problems viewing the remote file and records correctly. This is the case when I am logged in as the admin or other user. Hi, I'm running filemaker server advanced 10 on a Windows Server 2003. I've applied the latest filemaker server updates available. I have a few imports from an Access Database that happen on an hourly basis. Probably about once a week I find the files that the scripts import to are corrupted and I need to run a recovery on them. The filemaker server just marks the database as closed and then refuses to open them. There are several scripts and several files. They don't all corrupt at the same time, it appears to be quite random. Other files are fine, it is only the files that are imported to. I couldn't find any indication in the logs of anything going wrong…

We are using Filemaker 9 Server and Filemaker 9 desktops. The "External Resources" in all 60 of our databases have all contained the following filepaths:"fmnet/xx.xxx.xxx.xxx/filename". I have been having tremendous router trouble on our network, when I change out our router, the computer that hosts the Filemaker files (and filemaker server) IP address changes, causing me to have to manually change the external resources on hundreds of references. Client: OS X 10.6.5 on Mac Mini Server: FMS 9.0.3.326 on OS X 10.5.x (not sure) Until last week I was running 10.4.11 on eMac and never had any admin console errors. This is a general question about how filemaker works: Sometimes our database opens a file normally (I can tell because at the top of the database it says the filename, "Customers (djbserver.local)" Other times the filename may have a number after it, "Customers-2 (djbserver.local)." I have created a CRM for a company I work with, and have been using IWP to allow multi-user support and such. This has been an OK solution, but not optimal due to the lack of features in IWP and also the layout looks terrible. When I initally connects via the ip address no available files are listed, however after I ping the filemaker server, the available files appear. Has anyone seen this issue or a similar issue? I was wondering (conceptually) if it would be possible to do the following: Host several different Filemaker Pro 11 advanced databases on Filemaker server with a front-end FM Pro program that would open and allow access to a specific database based on a password or pin entered by a user coming into the front-end program. It appears that one cannot issue the "Open File" command from a script when a FileMaker Pro database is running on FileMaker Server. Is this true? Is there any way to accomplish this? Hi everyone, I searched for this but couldn't find anything. I have a project that I am trying to get a backup of so I can move it to another server. The problem I have is nobody has admin access to the server computer. I can access the solution and I know where the server is but can't get into it to copy the files. I was hoping to set up a schedule through server admin to back up the files to a computer that I know the admin log in for but can't seem to be able to do it. Hello, Our school has used FMP since at least 1999. I've had to do very little to it over the years because it has been rock solid. I installed a fresh version of FMP server 11 on a Mac Mini Server running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) server. Setup went well even though I had to use DVD drive sharing for the first time (since the Mac Mini servers don't have any optical media readers). So, we have a number of users using our FM Server. About half are on FMP clients, and the other half are only using IWP. Occasionally, we get a call from one of the IWP users saying that either web pages aren't loading, or they get a message saying Service Unavailable. When I look at the processes running on our server (Apple Xserve 10.5.8), it's easy to spot the FM Web Publishing proccess because it is using 100% (or sometimes more, somehow!) of the CPU. Once we stop and restart the service, it runs fine again for anywhere from a few hours to a week. Hey guys, I just upgraded our FMS 8 server to 11 advanced. I can't get the previously working XSLT and IWP pages up and running. The databases are working through FMP, i just can't seem to figure out why nothing is working via the web. I do get an error in the log: fmi/conf/config.wpc 401 0 I get this on several ports. The error when browsing, for all sections is page cannot be displayed. I reinstalled and made sure I waqs running latest patch and java. Thanks!

Hello, everyone. Recently, I encountered a situation where a few records in a critical database were being deleted. Unfortunately, I don't know who or what deleted the records. Thanks to backups, I was able to recover them with relative ease, but it really got me thinking. For the past two years FMP 10 server, via schedules, has been running a server side script to perform emailing tasks. After an upgrade to FMP Server 11 this will no longer work. Please note: using FMP Server 11 Admin Console, from the tab Configuration > General Settings > Email Notifications > Test SMTP settings, server will send email fine. Ok, goofy subject line. What I have is a client who has a solution in FM 5.5 that has been running in his office forever. He wants to do some new stuff and what I need to know is can FMS 5.5 and FMS 10/11 run together either on the same server machine or on the same network. They want to use the new version to take advantage of the web implementation, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue and we'd just stick with 5.5. I know, upgrade the whole thing. That's not an option as that is up to the developer of their main package to do the update.

I am new to using one computer(host) to share files. I set up one computer started up fmpro9 as host and i have 2 other computers that i access the host computer through local area network(works great) but once in a while the host computer will give a "file corrupt" message and to use the "Recover" to open it back up. Hey guys! So I have FMS 11 running on a computer, hosting a file. I installed FMP on a new computer but didn't realize one other mac on the wifi network is already using it. When opening the hosted file on the server, I was given the license conflict message. Fine. I uninstalled FM, removed all preference files, etc. started fresh with a different license key. Same problem. I tried all kinds of different things to absolutely no avail so finally I removed FMP from the OTHER mac that already had FMP on it. Hello I have the following problem. I am hosting a file(small example file attached to this post) on "FMS 11 Advanced 11.0.2.217" When I open the file and switch(press ctrl+1 or run script from menu ) to a limited account, the I cannot perform a quickfind or simple search. But when I take the file of the server and access it locally, then I can perform a quickfind or simple find with a limited access account. We will be using one or two virtual machines for this, depending on whether we set up the database server and web components on the same virtual machine or different virtual machines. Hi all, I have tried uploading a database file to FMSA v10. The admin tool reports that the file uploaded successfully, but on finishing with the upload wizard the file is not listed in the databases pane. I have refreshed this view several times and tried uploading the file into its own folder as well as not opening the file on successful upload. Server is Windows 2003 Server, and on checking the file structure the new database is indeed moved to the appropriate folder and its permissions are the same as other files in that folder. Any ideas? So we have an install of FileMaker Server 11 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. The databases being hosted have been configured (in Filemaker Pro Advanced) in the "File->File Options..." dialog to automatically log in using a user name with no password, and the feature works fine when opened in FMPA locally from the file system. Once they are being hosted however, opening them on the server or on client machines across the network results in being prompted for a login. Hello FMForum, I'm a beginner at this, so please bare with me. I am currently running FMS 10 Advanced V.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit). (If you need to know, the workstations are running FM 10 Advanced V.3 on windows xp sp3). The problem is after a install of server it tries to start the admin console but an error messages pops up saying "The database server is not available. To edit the server deployment please start the database server first." I press restart, then nothing really happens for about 30 seconds and then another error pops up saying "Unable to start the database server. I've had Filemaker 10 Server for quite a while now. The reason I updated to it was to do server side imports. After months, I cannot get this feature to work on my existing databases. I do import/updates based on a matching ID field. If I make a test database with a couple fields and a few records, I can successfully get an import/update script to run on schedule. My actual production databases just stall. The Filemaker Server admin app just says "Running" and the script never updates anything. I have no idea what is happening. Does anyone have any suggestions for a server log viewer? My server's logs are so clogged up with daily mundane-ness that if there ever was something there I should see, I would likely never see it because it's hiding in the mass of log entries. What I'd like to be able to do is omit common/known items from the log so that uncommon/un-known items are the only thing I see. When I say omit, I mean omit from view, not omit from the log entirely. I just upgraded to Server 11 from Server 9 and have started to use the import/export features. My script exports csv files to the documents folder in FMS11 folder which is working fine. What I am having trouble with is getting other PC's on the same network to open the files. I have made sure the folder can be shared but when I open the folder on a client PC , and under 'my network places' , the folder 'Documents on Server (Server)' is visable but when I go to open the folder , I get the error Serverdocuments is not accessible. Hello all, I'm using SQLserver 2008 with Visual studio and SSID. I'm trying to retreive data from a Filemaker table via ODBC (sequelink) and put them into a MySQL table. In mysql (and in all standard SQL compliant RDBMS) multiple fields doesn't exists, so I have 20 fileds which should receive 20 values from a multiple field with 20 repetitions. I don't know (and I can't figure) how to select every single repetition from filemaker and update MySQL. I'm afraid that this is not possible. Do you know which syntax to use to query Filemaker properly (if any)?

Hi folks, I had designed a working copy FMaker solution some time ago which was hosted on a trial FFMaker 9 Server. We didn't go ahead with the project and the trial server was deleted. I am now relooking at the solution again in Filemaker as i kept the FMaker Solution database fp7 file but when i try and open it now, it is asking for ODBC connections etc. which i can cancel and gain access to the solution but none of the data is there etc. I have another .bak file. I think this may be from the server. How do i recover this and can i open it locally with the data. Not the end of the world but it would be nice to see the solution with the test data…

OK still can't seem to get this up and running. I'm purely doing this for local development only with PHP. I'm on Win7 x64 Installed to the C drive. Uninstalled my copy of Java update 21, and installed Java update7 Bonjour was already installed and I left it alone Installed and started up IIS7 and made sure its working OK. Basically left everything at default, put an index.html in the wwwroot folder and 127.0.0.1:80 works fine. Hi. I have several databases installed on an FMS 11 Advanced on Windows Server 2008 R2 elsewhere on the Internet - ie not here with me. Developing the database can be slow at times and would like to remote into the server and develop it there. Can Fm11ProAdv be installe and run on the same box as server? The specs say so, but I have found that one or the other tend to play up. Am I just unlucky or has somebody else also experienced this? If so, and fixed, what do I look out for? Cheers, Greg

I have tried to upgrade a FM11 licence to FM11 advanced, because my customer wants to use IWP. However, after the upgrade I still can not start the web publishing engine. The settings show that the licence is fm11 advanced. Restarting Fm server and restarting the server completely does not make a difference (server is Windows 2003). Anyone an idea what the problem is? I am setting up a shared-file solution for multiple user access at a site. When scripting the file 'open' step and specifying the network file path, can I us a 'set variable' step to define the path? Or does it have to be a fixed value? Since the solution will be deployed to multiple sites, the networks are unlikely to be set up identically.

Greetings, Can anyone recommend a "SQL viewer" program that would allow me to test SQL queries to FileMaker (Server 11 Advanced) via JDBC? I've tried a few from the list at http://java-source.net/open-source/sql-clients (eg. Squirrel SQL Client, iSQL Viewer, Henplus) but have had no success so far. Just wondering if anyone had a favorite they've used successfully. Thanks!

We have a solution running in the office on FMSA. There will probably be many changes to the solution over the next few months and I'm just wondering what is the best way to handle a solution that is being modified often. Especially since we will be entering data into the db regularly. Do we close the solution on server, copy it off, modify it, then re-load it onto the server or is there an easier way? Such as, close it and modify on the server, then re-open?

Recently upgraded two laptop users from Vista to Windows 7. Re-installed FilemakerPro 9. Now both laptop users report they cannot access served files from Fm Server 9. When they Open Remote, they can see the Server in the Host window, but none of the served files show up in the available files window. No other users report anything unusual. Never had anything like this before the upgrade and re-installation of FMPro client. Can anyone suggest what might be going on.

does anyone have a script that they can share that gracefully shuts down all filemaker databases and then checks to make sure they are all closed and then reboots the server? we're running fmp server 10 on a mac xserve. i know this can be done with fmsadmin but it would ideally require some error checking, etc. and i'd suspect that someone already has created one that possibly could be shared. we find that we need to reboot the server about once a month or we have problems with databases and i'd like to schedule this as an automated process versus having to do it manually. thanks!

Hi, All Here's my setup Win Server 2003 SP2 with FM Server 11 advanced with IWP enabled. Win XP machine with FM pro 11 advanced. When I open a file with FM pro via remote dialog and when I want to publish it, I get the settings Box but the file won't show where the Open Files list is. I check the file as IWP and when I open the Home page in the Web Browser the file is there in the list. I need some clear explanations because I have to make a Demo meeting with a client. One info that might help. All my DB was prepared on a Mac OSX and then uploaded on the win Server, can that be a cause? Thanks for replying ASAP Nikos

Hello All I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this. I am running Server 11 Advance, on a Win 2008 server. The server has two network cards. One network card is set for 192.168.2.x and the other 192.168.21.x. This needs to be this way for some security work the server does. Since the restart of the machine, it grabbed the IP address of 192.168.21.1, instead of the assigned 192.168.2.10. Now the .21 network does not really have a structure (no DNS no router etc.) I need the server to use the other network card. Is there a way to accomplish this? Thanks

Hi, I have a FMS advanced installed and have several databases open and all is working well. What is not working is the IWP. I can't connect in any fashion. The IWP engine is on. I looked in the folder where the iwp_home.html file should be however it is not and wonder if this is the cause. I have tried to connect to the databases using port 591 since that is what the files were set up as. Appreciate any direction or feedback you can give me.

Can anybody help, I need a copy of Fp5 server. My client has called me in to re-write their old solution (on fp5) which in itself isn't a problem however they have just upgraded their server and their fp5 server disc is corrupt and we can't load it onto the new server to run their current solution whilst I rewrite a new solution on 11. Hello! I've been "lucky" enough to be working on my organization's OLD, OLD Filemaker db. We are an all Mac shop, and within a few months we will be purchasing an off-the-shelf database solution so this issue will be moot then. In the time being however, I'm trying to tweak this thing to be as fast as I can get it. We run FM Pro v6 on our clients, with FM Server 5.5. There are about 10 of us connecting to the database. Hi All, I have an XP SP3 machine with FM 11 advanced I created a Virtual Server machine with VMWare workstation and installed Win Server 2008 standard. I then installed the FMS advanced 11 and in the setup I chose the IWP with One Machine option. The problem starts at this point: I get a message saying that the Web Server connection failed. If I skip the Web Server setup I don't see my FMS IP in my FM advanced remote files . If I don't setup the IWP at all, I can see the Server's IP but no Datafiles available on the right side of the table. So, I can't connect to the Database in both cases. Hi, I feel the answer is right under my nose, but can't find it, also searched. Hosting several IWP databases where I'd like folks to go straight to the database and bypass the "Open database.... with: Guest Account" screen. Guest access is read only, with no password. Not sure where to post this but I have a 600+ MB database file that I am serving via FM10 Server on Windows Server 2003 R2. I am having performance issues accessing the file remotely via the internet. It is very slow when opening the file (sometimes it takes up to 45-60seconds to open) I have a T1 line at the office and I have UVERSE MAX internet service at home accessing my database. Is there anything I can do about this? Not sure if I'm missing something. Thanks in advance, Adrian

I need some of the knowledge floating around this forum to walk me through a seemingly simple task of updating 90+ client machines to FMP11. For the last 6 years I have walked to every workstation to install updates to FileMaker software and I'm getting tired of it taking ALL of my time. There has to be a better way. I'm not a network administrator and I know zilch about group policies. I have recently migrated my solution to a UI and data separated model. I am having issues with stopping the data file from appearing in the Open Remote dialog on the server that is hosting the file. I have closed both files and gone to Sharing and clicked the "Don't display in Open Remote File" dialog checkbox but this has not removed the file. I have also removed all Network access to the file but it still displays in the Open Remote Dialog even though users have no access to the file itself. Where else do I have to remove access to the file to prevent users from seeing it while still having access to the data file.

Hello, I am trying to set up a scheduled filemaker script to send out e-mail and I get this error: FileMaker Server 10.0.1.64 on Gneeks reported the following event: 2010-10-14 12:31:01.048 -0400 Information 644 Gneeks Schedule "docs for all intake students" completed; last scripting error (3). The script does not expect any parameter. I also set up the SMTP on FMS and tested it. Firewall on doesn't seem to block necessary ports. The script works fine when sent from FMP client. I've only done RM runtimes to this point, but one client wants to be able to have multiple users access the database at one time, so am considering adapting the application to an FM Server environment. If FM Server is installed on an OSx machine, can PCs use it? Or do all computers in the network have to be of the same ilk?

Filemaker Pro can open two databases with the same names. Obviously the operating system requires them to be in separate folders, but FM Pro doesn't object. I'd like to be able to clone a set of templates for different groups of users and host them from the same server. The advantage would be that updates could quickly be disseminated without having to rename a lot of files and rename all of the external file references. However, unlike FM Pro, FMServer refuses to host two files with the same name. Simply putting them in a different folder doesn't work. I have a nifty timecard solution that I have been working on. All the employees clock in/out via a simple screen where they enter their number and press a button. Works great. The problem is they access this via IWP and IWP logs the user out every X minutes. Is there a way to set this up so it stays running all the time without logging out? Right now when a shift starts the first person to clock in will log in with a generic username then they will be able to access the "clock" screen and everyone else will be able to clock in/out after that but when lunch or the end of day comes someone has to log in again. Hello together I have a FM-script running as a schedule on my FM-Server and it's producing "errors" such as the beloved 401 NoRecordsFound (which imho is no error) so it's consequently spamming my Server Event Log. As ErrorCapture is not compatible with the server environment, does anybody have an idea how to prevent this from happening? (My script is going to run hourly and is checking 24 tables for journal entries to process them into the journal-table... so, it matters otherwise it's going to be a LOT of entries)

After installing Server Advanced 11, I am getting an error message upon opening the Admin Start page that says "The Database Server is not available. To edit server deployment, please start the Database Server first." The dialogue window has two buttons, one says Restart and the other Cancel. When I click the Restart button, Windows gives me a new error that says: "Filemaker Server has stopped working". Hello all; I'm trying to get a FileMaker Server (v11) that is hosted on a virtual instance of Win 2003 (Hyper-V) to gracefully close files etc. when the host machine is shut down. I've read numerous articles stating that when Win 2003 shuts down, it should execute the shutdown script that is defined within the GPO, and then close the network connections, but I am finding that the opposite is true in this case. Because of the fact that network connections are getting closed prior to my shutdown script executing, FileMaker clients are not being notified of the pending shutdown (and hence have no notice). Does anyone use FileMaker PHP on IIS with SSL. Im trying to get the FileMaker sample working on my test machine and I just get errors. I can give you details on everypart of the configuration as it is on my test machine and not our production environment. The test cerficate I am using is generated by the IIS 6 resource kit if anyone needs to know, but the installation itself is producing EXACTLY the same error as our real server machine. Hello All - I have been asked to begin to take over some of the admin responsibility for our office regarding Filemaker beyond my current comfort level. I've been an end user for 10 years+ and pretty well up to speed on the design of the files themselves, but a complete entry level noob on the server side. Any suggestions for a guide/manual to get a good handle on the basics? This might not be a server problem, but I didn't know in what other category to post. Here's what's happening: If a user creates new records in a database, it fills the fields out with random information from other records. The first thing that popped to my mind was file-corruption. But here's the kicker... it only happens from ONE client machine. All others, whether remote or in the same network/subnet are good. I've tested it. The leads me to cache... isn't there a location in Mac OSX where FileMaker saves the database files temporarily if they are opened over the network? Removing this cache could help, no?
