FileMaker Server 17

Hello friends, During July and this morning, our Filemaker server crashed (v17.0.5.500). Although it looks like the client can still connect to the server, it is slow or unresponsive. I tried restarting FileMaker Services in Windows Service but it didn't work. Then I restart the entire main FileMaker server, this error is resolved, the user can use as usual. After checking Eventlogs -> Application log we noticed that there are 2 errors (Level: Error, 😞 - Web Publishing Engine (WPE): fmscwpc.exe - Database Server: fmserver.exe I believe both WPE and Database Server applications crashed causing all FileMaker services to fail. …

Night, I am trying to configure a database to auto-open but running into some issues. I created an account with view-only access, but then I try configuring the autologin it's telling me the server does not allow auto login for hosted databases. But i cant find the option on the server to allow autologin I am using FM server 17. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Rudy

Good day guys, one of my clients is running server 17 all have been working fine for several years, suddenly yesterday the database stopped opening. When I try opening it it shows a red dot if i refresh the page it shows closed. I tried looking at the logs but dont see any errors. Are there any logs I can check why it’s not opening. thanks

Hi, the "Send Mail" script step stopped working — out of the blue. • The script runs fine on any client FM15 - FM18 • Getting a "LastError" directly after the "Send Mail" script step returns "False" • Everything else in the script runs just fine • There has been no changes on the smtp server See also smtp settings screen shot. My customer said: The problem appears when users access module A while another user runs the function to update the records on module B. (module A and B using the same source table). Sorry for the multiple posts, finally found where to indicate correct version forum. Need to move Database from FileMaker Server 17 to a stand alone computer and keep all the external container links. I can easily copy the database to my computer. I can copy the external container pdf files (300,000 of them) to the same stand alone computer, but that breaks all the files. Now says missing<filename> in my field. I have gone to the manage database and edited the path to point to the location where I copied the external files to and not working. Same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Mark

I have been having some installation difficulty with getting my FMS 17 onto our Windows 2012 R2 box. When it installs, it gives me the well known dialog about ports 80 & 443 being required. I have FMS17 running a system shell script that does the following: Tar the latest backup folder and leave it into a specific 'tar' folder Mount an external volume share rsync external share and tar folder The script was running twice a day without any problem until last week when I upgraded the server OS from High Sierra to Catalina. I'm having huge difficulty getting FileMaker Server 17 to work. The server operating system is Windows Server 2016. The client PC is Windows 10. The software installs OK but when I use FM Pro 17 client to connect remotely, I can't connect. I see the server under "Local Hosts" but when I click on the host name, after a minute or so I just get the message "connection failed". A ping to the host local IP address is successful so there is definitely a local area network connection. There is a Sophos hardware Firewall in place and I thought this was the culprit. Maybe it's just our enterprise's network but our FM clients never seem to reconnect on a loss of network (wifi, wired, VPN, anything). We always get the endless "Reconnecting..." dialog on the fat client even on the shortest of disconnects and phantom disconnects where the network link is never truly lost. Go clients seem happy as a clam to reconnect in almost any scenario though. Anyone have a suggestion on what to look at to try and improve this? Thanks -David

Hello all, gurus! We have trouble getting filemaker server 17's SERVICE (read WINDOWS SERVICE) starting as a regular domain user. In other words, if we install FMS17 with the default option of LOCAL SYSTEM USER, then the windows's FMS service starts with that LOCAL SYSTEM user. If we try to install FMS17 with the option of a regular DOMAIN USER, the windows's FMS service wont start at all. We are on Windows 2012 R2 server (all minimum requirments are met). Browsing through my event logs, I am finding weird scripting errors, like: ... Information 645 ...local Schedule "Import Main (every minute 8-20)" scripting error (401) at "Import : Import Main : 36 : Perform Find". How can a simple «Perform Find» script step (which works just fine in the server scheduled script, btw.) generate a scripting error? Occasions where the FoundSet = 0 should be considered «normal». Today I updated FM Server from 17.02 to 17.05. After this update WebDirect refuses to start. When I click on the slider, it says "Enabled", but when I go back again it's Disabled. I have looked for Java updates, but I already have the latest update applied. I'm on macOS 10.13.6 with all security patches applied. I am working with a table of 1.5 million records. I am using relationships to isolate records from that table based on multikey fields that contain a list of the IDs that I want to access matched up with the primary key field of that table. There are multiple relationships to access and group the records needed based on a multitude of criteria but in short the problem is this. When I take a backup file from the server where all the databases are encrypted (EAR) the encryption password does not work. The password is the right one because it opens the server databases. I copied the file to my own computer and try to open it with filemaker 17 and the password doen not work. How do I upgrade from FM 14 so that I can access my FM database from both my MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14 and my iPhone? Currently I am single-user and my ambition to bump to 2 or 3 users is very low. For several months I have only been able to access the DB with my iPhone so programming is impossible. I was using a hosting service from 2015 until this problem but their solutions to this problem all seem to be poor choices since their serving is done via FM 16 (or maybe even older). Hi...so I have FMS17 up and running on a new mac mini. So far so good!! I am having a tiny issue changing the back up folder location. Current Default Path: filemac:/Macintosh HD/Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/ So....I am trying to make the path a folder in Drop Box. Good afternoon, I have a client who has an issue with one of their solutions. Within the File Sharing settings, the Peer-to-Peer sharing is On and the option to display on Host is disabled. I am certain that the P2P sharing needs to be off and that I DO want to have it 'visible' from the Host, so I will DISABLE this 'hide' setting. The problem is that when I change these settings, and close the file, that the settings go back to what they were when I re-open. FMP users also get the Network Sharing error message when they first open the solution. I have taken it off the FMS when changing these settings, tried a Recover, tried all sorts of things. Hey.... Currently running FMS15 on a dell optiplex from 2015. No real issues to speak of. I want to upgrade to FMS17. Was thinking of switching to a Mac Server, wanted to know your thoughts. I do hit my server now from the outside and plan to use more heavily with images, uploading to my server into image containers, etc. Why switch...for one, my shop is primarily graphics and Mac based and we are just better all around with Macs. I have been using FM Pro on FM Server 13 since 2014 to organize a multi-college series of workshops with a handful of colleagues at other colleges in my university. The database is essential to our operation, but the number of users other than me needing to access it at any time is quite minimal. I must upgrade Server because my colleagues have upgraded to FM Pro 16 for a different, much larger operation that runs out of a different academic unit. FM Pro 16 isn't compatible with FM Server 13. I'm getting this more and more intermittently. I can open the remote file from other machines just fine. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Has been happening since we went from FMP15/FMS15 to FMP17/FMS17. Off and on but more on lately. Rebooting has sometimes solved it in the past. Isn't today. Hello All - I have a wildcard cert from Godaddy for my domain. I have successfully reinstalled this cert on Server 17 by using the White Paper from Steven & Wim - thank you! My issue is this: I would like to use the certs/key on other machines/platforms but adding the keyfilepass is causing issues with my linux firewall -> PFSense. I have tried omitting the keyfilepass option however the CLI tells me this is a problem. Is there a way to generate the CSR without using the keyfilepass option? Hi all, I currently have a database hosted with an iMac/FileMaker server and I have about 11 computers that connect via the network daily and then from home using the IP address. Our database is filled with tons of conditional formatting and thousands of pdf’s. FileMaker at home is usable but a lot slower than using it on the network in our office. I am opening up a brand office in Alaska next year and it will be staffed with 5-10 employees and I need them connected to my database. Because I write a lot of server side scripts and often using custom WPE urls, one of the most annoying things in FileMaker Server 17 is that it is now impossible to monitor the logs from the admin console. I always have to download them. I found an alternative way to monitor them, by using FTP. With some nifty perl scripts, I can now even tail the Event.log and Access.log. It's a whole other story for the other logs, like the wpe.log, the Stats.log... It is just impossible to download those over FTP. We have been having problems with some files not opening. A checkbox appears with this text: The file xxx could not be opened. Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on that host. This has been happening since we started using Filemaker 17. It is intermittent for clients to Filemaker Server 17. This has NOT been supported by Filemaker since Web Direct, FMS13?.. but one could make it work using Reverse Proxy and setting other ports than 80 and 443 during the Deploy Server Setup. There is an exellent turorial on precursor.ca ‘s page called Reverse Proxy. Now.. There are a few certificates listed on the FileMaker support web pages as tested for FM Server 17 and i am trying GoDaddy one as it is the cheapest one. On 2 servers i tried so far, after more hustle then expected, i managed to install the certificates and now i got an ORANGE lock on both stating that the certificate is there but can not be trusted. Why is this happening? Could it be that they listed the certificate that is not really working well with FM Server? I am running FM Server 17. I have a weekly "Databases in Folder" back-up schedule that runs weekly. There are four databases in the folder but only three get backed up. It consistently is omitting one of them. Any ideas why that would be occurring?

Because I have only 1 external IP address in the office here, I have set up a reverse proxy on my Sophos UTM 9 firewall, they call it WAF or Web Application Firewall. In this setup, you define a number of "real" web servers with their internal IP addresses, you also define a number of "virtual" web servers by DNS name m type ( http or https ) and port ( 80, 443, or whatever you would like). This works great if you want to host different web servers on different internal machines. Hi everyone, I'm a beginner in FM, and i'm trying to develop a solution that allows me to import data from a csv file. I have two related tables Customer ("parent") and Alerts ("child"), each one has a primary key and the Alerts table has a foreign key to conect with the Customer table. I have to populated the alerts table from a cvs file that could have lots of records so I want to relate this new data to the right customers automatically when i import it, the new data does not have a field with the customer ID (primay key) only has its name. Hi, I’m using FM 17 Sendmail with Multiple attachments on the server to send email via a selection of google accounts all managed under one Google Suite account. All accounts have already been set to allow less secure apps access, but what I have also found is for each account, email will not be sent unless the device IP (sending the email) is also known to the account. I can make this happen by logging into each account on the server via a browser so that the account learns the server IP, but this is problematic. Hi guys. Just a word of caution: The FM Server 17 Windows distribution (released just weeks ago) has (at least) one big flaw. If you opt for the Filemaker contained version of PHP during installation, you will get PHP 5.6.24, released early 2016! This version is so full of security holes that our security scanner practically throws a red card at it. Ergo: IF you do accept the built-in version..make sure you update it to the last release of PHP5 which is 5.6.36, released in April 2018. This version is also not bomb-proof, but a lot more secure. Sorry upfront - I know this is technically not the correct forum, though I believe my problem is independent of the version number. We have a FM db hosted with a 3rd party - that server went down and I have been trying for days to get any response, but no luck. We also can no longer get into the Admin section or the FTP area. Since we had some reliability issues in the past, we did run manual backups daily and I have created a mirror image of the DB on another FM hosting service. We are using exchange on the same network which uses 443 so in previous version of FM I just changed the port to 4443. To get around this I used the router to forward port 4443 to the FM server and change it back to 443. This worked and showed me the databases, the problem is that when I try to login I get a blank page and no login box. I think this is due to the change in ports from the router as it works internally. The only options I can see to get this working if the listening port cant be changed, is to go back to FM16. Is there a way to change the listening port within the config files on windows? Thanks

I just installed FM Server 17 on a machine (running Windows 2016 Server) to test everything out. During the installation, there are a number of warnings to click through if you don't have an SSL Certificate to install at the time of installation. Everything installed / is working fine . . . except logging into the Admin Console remotely. There's no SSL Certificate. In recent FMS versions before FMS17, you could create a daily backup schedule that would repeat every X hours. I need that in FMS17, but those options are no longer available in the web admin, and I have yet to find a way to do this via the CLI. If I want to run a schedule every hour of every day, do I need to create 24 backup schedules like back in the day?

Currently, I'm running a FM development server (FDS) on a WHS2011 machine (based on Server 2008). This has been working fine. From what I read, FMS 17 will no longer work on Server 2008 based platforms, so I'm assuming WHS 2011 will not work. FM17 What's New page says : "Work while reconnecting If you lose your network connection, continue working with files that don’t depend on that host while the connection is being restored." Is this referring to the infamous spinning blue circle in WebDirect ? That thing happens way too often.. I'm also wondering what files you might be working on that "don’t depend on that host" ?
