Is true Integrated Windows Authentication on a Windows box possible? The FM Client uses this, but coming through Internet Explorer through Server Advanced forces authentication. We have RSA fobs at work for the desktop but no RSA on the servers so people have to remember their windows passwords to log into Server advanced ... Any work around for this? Does Server 9 Advanced add this by chance?

I installed FMSA 8 and the WPE this morning. I can't get in with what I thought was the login/password that I just set. I have tried every combination I could think of. Actually I am pretty sure of the password, but not the login. Does the application list or store the account names anywhere? Or what would you recommend I do at this point? Thanks in advance

I am in the process of converting from filemaker 5 to 8.5 advanced. I was doing my testing on a single machine and all went well. I then started a second one and created file references from the secont to the first. as I was about to re-establish the relationships I recieved the "host's capacity has been exceeded". I have read all the other posts and have made sure I have the correct serial numbersz on the machines and I still get same message. The odd part is that at I can connect via remote from the first computer to the second but not the other way around. I am testing out FileMaker Pro Advanced Server 9 on a Windows XP system. Following the instructions I installed IIS and FMS. Everything appeared to work fine until I got to the point where I got to the server deployment. I am trying to deploy the server with XML, XSLT, Instant Web Publishing and PHP, installing the FileMaker PHP version. Whenever I get to the web server test page, I always get a Return code = false or -1. I have studied the docs and cannot determine why it will not start. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Brian

Hi All - I just installed FileMaker Pro 8.5v2 and FileMaker Pro 9 on a Windows Vista computer. In either version, when I select Open Remote, I see the FileMaker Server on my network(v8.0.4 on a Windows XP computer). When I click on that server to see the hosted files, I get nothing. I know that files are hosted because I have a computer right next to this one that runs XP and I see the hosted files when I click on the server. Any ideas? Is there some kind of network setting in Vista that I am missing? I can access the server that the FileMaker Server is running on via the Network Neighborhood in Vista no problem.

I have set up Filemaker Server Advanced setup and working just fine. I've got databases working over the web, but I want to do something kind of odd. The Apache web server that is hosting the web components is running on port 81 because I have a LightTPD web server running as my public facing server. I have several Rby on Rails apps being proxied through the LightTPD server. I have done the same with the Apache server but all the links FileMaker create add ":81", to themselves, thus forcing the web client to try to use that port. I want it to be going through 80. Is it possible to tell FileMaker to not append that port number?

I have been hosting a FM server 5.5 on my Mac (10.4.9) for some time. All of a sudden, no networked computers can access the shared files. They simply do not show up in Open Remote > Local Hosts. Any ideas as to what may be going on? I have trashed 5.5 and re-installed it. No help. Thanks

;) I had a devil of a time upgrading server 8 to 9 quite a few errors - I know I had uninstalled filemaker 8 server to the letter with Tech support on the phone - but I still got an error of the server admin not connecting (filemaker help desk not sure why). It turns out it was due to my proxy as soon as I turned off my proxy it went through fine and as soon as I turned the proxy back on it will had the same error. I now have to access the admin from another computer that has no proxy for it to work. Another error was installing the Web and PHP (filemaker help desk not sure why apache was running) I had to break down the installation to each part to get it to work and I h…

Hi All, can anyone offer advice/opinion on the following proposal: The requirement is is to install FM 9 Server (or in the short term, FMP 9 sharing over the LAN) The proposed configuration, is to have a single box, running two "VMWARE server" virtual machines on debian linux. One virtual machine will run XP Pro with MS SQL Server 2006 Express Edition installed and running FileMaker (FMP initially, then FMS9). The other virtual machine will run Win2003 standard server R2 with user sessions running in Terminal server. Hi all, I've tried to install filemaker 9 server (trial version) on a machine running windows 2003 server standard edition (R2). installation was successfull (at least, it seems so..), service was properly started and configured. once installation ends I opened the browser (IE7 + JRE 6 as requested from the FMS installer) and a popup message promped out notifying me that Database service was not running. I clicked the option which should start that service but it kept to return the same error, as if the service was still not available, but it was running. Anyone experienced (and solved) the same problem? ;)

I've just installed a developer copy of FMS on an XP Home-SP2 box. The computer meets all the requirements except it has a 2.8Mhz processor instead of the 3.4 or so that is listed as the minimum (I figure I'm limited to 3 users anyway so hopefully it doesn't matter). I downloaded the installer using a different computer then moved it to the 'server'. When trying to run the installer, it would crash the OS. I tried downloading the installer directly from the FM site and have it save on the server. It still crashed the server. I then downloaded the installer setting it to Run rather than Save and this worked. (Evidence of a problem?) I moved 1 file to the server …

Hi everyone, I want to run a script on FM Server 8 automatically after hours. It is a report that is supposed to be done at the end of the day but people keep forgetting. I didn't think I could make it run when the file closed because different people run it and if someone is still inputting data I don't want it to run. Can this be done? I have looked through the help menu and it mentions script files. I don't know what they are. Okay, a bit of backstory then the question: We have a Quotation system here that customer services/sales uses to quote parts. We have 2 facilities: FLA and TEN. FLA likes TEN's FileMaker Quotes system, and wants a "COPY" of the system hosted on another server that they can edit at will. Additional forms/tables in the existing DB is not an acceptable option (for no apparent reason). Here's the question: let say there are 13 files associated with this system. The backup is aborted. when I see the files status in the Server admin ,They are still open and running. its very rare that anydatabse closes, may be once in a while. Hello, I'm running FMServer 8 Adv. and have a big problem. In the Admin control window of the FMServer, I have 3 databases, 2 Samples and one custom. All of their status' reads "Normal", nothing is closed or disabled. My problem is that when I open FMP8 and try to remotely open the databases I have on the FMServer, I can open the 2 samples but my custom one isn't there. I'm using a Mac server with Mac clients trying to connect to the server. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A few hours ago, all of the computers in our office received this message: "File has been forcefully disconnected from host... [From Administrator: ""]" Nobody has touched the server in a few hours... Everytime I open Filemaker Server and try to open our server I get this message after a few seconds: "The connection to this FileMaker Server has been lost." Hey, We are using FileMaker Server 7 or 8 (don't remember) to serve FM7 files to other computers in our office via a little switchboard... We host our website on our own server at the office and filemaker database files are located on that "server"... When we use "open remote" to open our database, it brings up the box with the IP address of our server and we click out database... I was wondering if this is opening the file really "remotely", as in over the internet. It loads extremely slow! Shouldn't I be able to server the databases over the internal network? I am fairly new FM and trying to add a fp7 file to the FM Server and then view it. So far the file is on the server and the status is Normal. But it will not show on any other PC when I go to File>Open>Remote>Select Host, all the other files show that are hosted. Cheers Chris

This morning I attempt to access the FileMaker server MMC-console and to my surprise my MMC-console password did not works and wend I tried to stop FMS services the services did not stop properly. I am trying to setup our FMS8A on a new computer but for some reason I can not log into the Web Publishing Administration Console via the web browser. When I go to http://localhost/fmi/config I can see the log in page but my user name and password do not work. I have logged into the server and changed the username and passcode several times but it is still not letting me in.

Has anyone ever been able to get the Server Admin Tool to show clients by FM account name instead of computer name? I know one can have a different account name for each file hosted but we go through Terminal Services which, of course, shows everyone as coming from the same computer name (and same IP, etc.). It is a big pain not knowing who is who. Any suggestions? Thnx.

In reading the "FileMaker Server Getting Started Guide", I noticed that the requirements went up significantly for FMS9 from 8.04. I have a question regarding the hard drive space. It states it needs a minimum 80 GB. I am assuming that this is for both App and Data since that number seems rather large. Is this the case? Perhaps Steven will chime in and confirm.

I installed the developer FMSA 9 (single machine) and have tried to run IWP. During the install I specified the web server to be Apache (Mac OS X 10.4.10) at 127.0.0.1 using port 80 - everything fine. Although now I seem unable to change the port. I also configured the sample file for fmiwp access. When I try to connect from a browser client, specifying the IP address of the FMSA 9 machine all I get is the Apache welcome page. I'm familiar with the FMP IWP which displays the list of files available, so I expected the same in FMSA 9. Can anyone give me a clue. Thanks

I run a set using Filemaker Pro Server Advanced. The internal network runs perfectly. However we have a few users who need to be able to access this set up from the net. We can access these file with IWP, but the functional short-comings of IWP make me want to render these files accessible from the net. I have a broadband connection with a dynamic IP address. I know we should have a static address, however except for power failures the router is never turned off, so I assume that for testing purposes at least this should be functional as the IP address does not change. Using FMSA8v2 on OSX 10.4.4. I've placed a customized version of iwp_home.html in this location as per the docs: /Library/Web Server/Web Publishing/IWP/iwp_home.html I restarted both the web publishing engine and the FM server itself. But I can't seem to get IWP to use the custom home page. I tried setting the owner/group to fmweb/fmsadmin, etc. No dice. It keeps loading the default filemaker IWP home page. Anyone get this to work?

Please help! My wife's computer is connected to our LAN wirelessly, mine via ethernet. We both have iMacs running 10.4.9 and both have copies of Filemaker Pro 6. She is hosting a file. But when I select "Open Remote" I get nothing. I've checked our sharing settings and it all makes sense to me. If she closes the file, I can go through the network and host it myself, so I know we're connected. Thanks for your suggestions! Steve

I'm trying to figure out why I get the standard XSLT error page (i.e. the one with the error in six languages) when I enable stylesheet caching in production mode. Currently I'm running version 8.0.1.27 on MAC OSX Server and stylesheet caching works fine... I tried to upgrade to 8.0.4 but enabling stylesheets draws an error. So, we just bought a new intel machine OSX Server and the upgraded FMP Server Advanced Universal and it has the same problem. So, two setups running FMPSA and exactly the same files... Think way back...I have a client with FMS 5.0 on an iMac, and they cannot open the Schedules window. They report a dialog that claimed that the Prefs file is corrupted. I am assuming a re-install is necessary, so I'm in for a bit of a drive. Interestingly, everything is served fine, and backups are running. Just can't see the Schedules. So, think way back, any key combos to re-create the damaged server prefs file?

I have a network with about 8 users, and FileMaker Server on a Mac Mini. I'd like to get a small portion of this data to the web, but I seem to be out of luck. I can't share the data through a client, and I have Server, but not Advanced, so I can't do that either, right? If I were smaller or larger, I'd be all set, but I'm in the middle. I tried making a shell database with calculation fields just equalling the data in the shared files, but the calc fields show blank on the web. Any ideas? Do I have to either spend $700 or go back to a client running as server?

Will there be a noticeable performance difference between using 8.5 Pro vs 8.5 Server advanced for the file sharing & Web hosting ? Hi, I recently upgraded to FMServer 8.0v4 and to my surprise FM does not make any scheduled backup anymore. when it is time to make the backup, no database will be backuped and the column 'Next Run' for the scheduled task will automatically switch to 'Disabled' yet all the configurations are set to make daily backups. : I have an application that is running on a Windows 2003 Server with IIS set up to handle ftp and static web pages. The only thing about the application that doesn't work is the XSLT send_email. It works perfectly when run on a Mac, also running FMP Server 8 Advanced. Even though we believe it to be an IIS problem (such as a setting),, we have looked and looked and cannot find what needs to be changed to get it to work. Using the SendMail script in FMP directly works just fine, just not via the web. The error that we get is 10213 - SMTP Server error. However, the server is the same one that works on the Macs. A client with a Donations-based solution shut down their dedicated Mini over the 4th. When they started it up again this morning, Server wouldn't open the file. It saw the file, ran "Checking..." and then Closed it. I rebooted with no luck. Then I opened it locally using a copy of FM8 to see if there was something wrong with the file and it opened fine. Then I closed it and tried opening it again with Server and it worksed fine. Or at least seems to be working fine. Should I worry about the file? Why would opening it locally help here? Thanks, DJ

Hello all, yesterday I tried to read the statistics of my filemaker server 8 through the admin consolle because often filemaker performances seems to be slowed down. Anyway, I don't know exactly what represent the data I see and what kind of data is better. I.e. must chach hit percentage value be low or high? Or, Network KB/sec (in the attached file is 0 but, of course, normally it shows a value). Some one can explain me how to read these informations? And, eventually, tell me when filemaker works best?

Hi friends, I have been dropped into FM admin position by way of last man standing. Im concerned with making sure that i do not blow up the company's FM server with all of their invoicing and contacts. That being said, they want some minor modifications to the databases for their invoices (4-5 different .fm5 databases). The modifications are simply aesthetic..so nothing fancy here. The company I work for is in need of a Filemaker Server (hardware). Our current Filemaker server is also our file server for the office and we would like to purchase some hardware to use only for Filemaker. We are serving about 14 databases with a total of 71 files (about 200 mg of data). There are about 5 users in this office (LAN), and 3 in an out-of-state office (WAN). Because of our modest needs we were considering a Apple Mini to use as a Filemaker server. Hello, I have a problem with FMP clients that get disconnected from FMS server. There are 7 clients running FMP 8.5 on Intel iMac's (OS X 10.4.9, 2.16 GHz, 1GB RAM) that get disconnected from the FMS (OS X Server 10.4.9, Intel XServe, 2 GHz, 1GB RAM) at random times during the day. Sometimes everyone gets disconnected at the same time. We have looked at several possible problem area's. I've seen in the FileMaker server MMC-console that it supports scripts for scheduling. Sounded like a really good idea I thought, but I can't find any information anywhere about how to use it or what kind of scripts it takes. I did try adding some basic things into a normal FileMaker file, placed it in the scripts folder and set a schedule for it. However, it didn't seem to do anything at all. What have I missed? Hello, I'm working on installing FMSA 8 on Windows 2000 Server. When I go through the initial stages of setting up the WPE user, no matter what I enter, as soon as I hit submit, it says, "There was an error." When I go back and try resuming configuring, it stops me at the WPE login and won't let me proceed, even though I entered the username and password I just set. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Server and Web Publishing app and it does the same thing every time. Ok this is something I learned today but have no clue why. I have a file "Inventory" which somehow became corrupt(Still figuring that out). There is a simple Product Status Field which is a Unstored IF statement of If(GetAsNumber(Qty In Stock Calc) < GetAsNumber(Lower Limit);"Order";"Good") Works Fine until just recently when you search for "Order" some of the records will show in the find even though the "Status" is "Good". The It guy here tells me this is not a problem. From the Directory service Event Viewer log from the box hosting our FM Files. I have a very small database that is being used by several different users, we all have our own copy with individual product numbers. The File sits on my computer, as i am the "administrator" and the others access it using remote open. I am continually tweaking the database to make it more user friendly for our purposes. the problem is that the last set of changes don't appear in other users' remotely opened files. what's going on? is there a way to force update? they are running on windows PC, but when i sign-in it gives me the correct version (and there is only one version) of the file. i don't know where/why they are getting an earlier file.

I am trying to set up a datase with 3 or 4 product shots of each entry and would like these "thumbnails" to open up into larger pictures when I post the database online. My only idea so far is to create records of each shot and have them open up via relationships with the thumbnail set up as a button. Hello I am having a problem accessing the admin console on filemaker server 8. The server is a mac mini serving 8 other macs If I mount the server volume on my computer and then try to open the admin console I get the message "cannot connect to server" even though I am already connected to the server. If I attach a screen to the actual server I still get the same message. This is the only application I can't open I am trying to place a database file on the server and need to open it so it can be viewed by everyone - is there any other way of opening it without going thru the console. Hi, we have an client running a FMP 6 solution off a FMS 5.5 server. Runs just fine. Windows 2003. It has low-moderate usage. Can we install and run FMS 8, to run two more low-moderate use databases, on the same server, at the same time? Seems to me it should work just fine, as long as server resources aren't taxed. : Need help! I am using Instant Web Publishing, but pictures/images placed in container fields do not show when I access the database from internet, only when I do it from my computer directly. Is there any options in the database itself I must turn on before using the Instant Web Publishing? Hi, I am in the process of setting up IWP and am logged into the Admin Console. I am busy trying to register the Publishing Engine (PE) however it tells me "The PE is not responding. If the PE has not yet been configured, click here to continue." I try clicking the link but it does not respond. Actually no buttons I click on this page in the Admin console respond. The top block on this page is in blue (Web Server), indicating it is set up successfully, the second block is in red/pink with the above error. Hi, I am a Filemaker novice. I got shoehorned into a job where I need to support this application without ever having used it before. Lucky me. Anyway, there is a person in our office who, when she logs into a FM database, the UI loads but no data is visible. The data is present in the file, and others connecting to the database have no problem whatsoever viewing the data. Just this one individual has ghost data. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm trying to organize my hosted FM 5.5 files into subfolders. FM server should host everything in the FM server folder and one level of sub folders down. This is an inherited and poorly documented db and so I have limited info as to configuration changes. However, it seems that what I thought was the main FM server folder is itself already a sub folder as FM server will not open sub folders within that directory but it will open fp5 files. The problem is the directory in question appears to be the main directory but it also appears to be a partition on the server. Server Advanced 8 properly set up on Mac OS X 10.4.8 IWP no problems, XML-publishing as well, but XSLT-publishing gives unknown error, saying 'unknown error in fmresultset.xml' The XSLT stylesheet is very simple and obviously without error. I use FM 8.5A and make substantial use of the Web Browser. If I host the file through one of the hosting companies, will other single FM 8 copies purchased at retail (separately) work OK. How do I save a graphic into a field? Right now, I capture it in Snagit, convert it to a JPEG and save just a file reference. Can I use a file plugin (like Troi) to open a scratch file for export? I am using FileMaker Server with the web publishing enginer. I have been searching for a solution/plug in that will let me create a container field and allow for web uploads of files. I found Grab It and Upload It but neither seem to fit what I need. All I want is a single field that I can click on that opens a browse window. Select the file and click OK to upload it. Thats all. I would like to be able to upload multiple files and be able to add/delete as needed. Is there a solution out there for this?

I have recently inherited the responsability of maintaining a FM network. Unfortunately FM Server is hosted on a computer which is locked away, and which I will never get access to. That being said I administer FM Server via the remote administrator application, a piece of software that I have never used before. One of my clients suddenly is having trouble sharing a database. Connecting to the database has become GLACIAL, and then performing any operation takes FOREVER. (They have one host, and five people sharing.) All are using 8 v1, though I tried connecting with 8.5 v1 on my own computer (connected to their LAN) and had same issues. (With nobody else connected.) I also tried installing Server, but still the same performance. I also tried with FM sample files, and experienced a similar slowdown. (Not as dramatic, since these files are smaller.) Hi All, This is my first post to FM Forums. My company deploys a FileMaker solution to multiple (many) sites nationwide; "SafariGuide". SafariGuide consists of 80 files which are all served from FMS 8.04. Many clients are served from Windows and many from Mac. All clients are running 8.5. A common problem is occurring ... the FMS software will simply stop ... the node is running just fine ... the server software justs stops. I am attempting to click the button "Start all Filemaker Server processes" by oppening the Server Admin program, clicking the "Server" menu followed by "local filemaker server administration". When the Start button is pressed it indicates that the server is running (or attempting to run) but after 5 seconds in stops. I need help configuring FM Server 8 to host databases on my Xserve. I'm using the xserve as a file server in an office of approx. 10 computers. The Xserve has a system hard drive and a 2 drive RAID 1. Our company data is stored on the RAID for back-up reasons. FM Server is installed on the system hard drive, but I would like to store the hosted databases on the RAID. I've created a database folder on the RAID and set it as the alternate directory in FM Server Admin. I recently uninstalled Server 7 Advanced and updated my Windows 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 2. I then re-installed Server 7 Advanced, but I can't access the Admin Console now. Does anyone have any idea why my Admin Console is not accessible? WPC and CWPE & CONFIG all reside on the same Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with SP2 running IIS 6. Hello I am using filemaker 8 advanced... I want to create a backup directory for each day of the week. I want to keep 7 backup in my week. My problem is, when i wanted to create a backup directory, I can't! Filemaker server only want to crate backup in data/backup directory... Does anyone have some tips on getting IWP to work with SSL? I'm running a two box setup with Filemaker Server 8 Advanced running on a Mac OS X 10.4.9 box. I have another box running Mac OS X Server 10.4.9 hosting the website with the Filemaker WPE. The setup works beautifully. However when I turn SSL on in the Mac OS X Server box and the default port changes from port 80 to 443 the WPE cannot connect to the database. I've checked the firewall setting on the Mac OS X Server box to allow traffic on port 443. I can get to the console page: "https://www.mydomain.com:443/fmi/config" but it indicates that the WPE can't communicate with the database. Do I need to …

I'm looking to set up the 5.5 Server on a linux install. I've been running into issues because 5.5 is older and the newer linux kernels are too new. I'm trying to find a way to make it easier for some of the people in my office to get to our database. Is there a way to reduce the number of steps needed for opening a remote file? As of now they have to open FileMaker, choose Open Remote, then select the database. For some here, that's two too many steps. Is there a way to make an icon or something else clickable that will do these three steps for the user? Thanks.

Got a call from someone who had a PC FileMaker server crash and when they restarted there is a file called fmswpc.exe that is using up 100% of their processor according to task manager. And it appears that web publishing has not started up. The little that I can find out about this file is that it seems to be related to the web publishing engine but when checking processes on another PC with the web publishing engine installed there is no fmswpc.exe file showing in the task manager. Has anyone run into a situation like this before? The system is running FileMaker Server 7 Advanced and using IWP to publish some files to the web.

Hey everyone, I am trying to install Filemaker Server 7 Advanced on an intel mac running the latest version of Mac OS X. As soon as I install the web publishing engine I can no longer start apache. Has anyone come across this? Do I need to upgrade to Server 8 Advanced to get this working on an intel mac? Any thoughts or suggestions is greatly appreciated. P.S. Server and web publishing are both on the same computer. I have set up this same configuration in the past without problems but it was on PPC macs.

Hi folks! We've experienced a very interesting problem but have been able to work around: Our solution has been running on FMS 7 and FMS 8 fine under Windows Server 2003 with AMD Athlon. When we were installing our solution at a client's server (also Windows Server2003) it kept crashing. We tried to solve that and gave them a MacMini with Mac OS X 10.4.9 & Intel Core Duo, didn't solve the problem, it kept crashing. Then we ran a couple of tests at the office and figured out that the server can only run stable on a NOT Intel Core Duo mashine regardless of the operating system, when heavy operations with global fields & relationships to them are involved. Hi all, I'm running billing software that uses FM Server 5.5 running on Windows 2000 Professional. We had to reboot the machine and now FileMaker Server 5.5 won't run anymore. When I reboot and check the services, I see that FileMaker is stopping. When I try and restart it I get the following message: "The FileMaker Server service terminated with server-specific error 50" The only mention I've found so far with FileMaker and error 50 indicates that it is a problem with something called Web Companion which we don't have installed. I created a database in FM Pro Advanced and then hosted it using FM Server Advanced. I enabled Instant Web Publishing on the server, but when I view the database, the Web Viewer I have doesn't show up at all. I should also say that the Web Viewer in my database does work in the Instant Web Publishing feature of FM Pro Advanced (the client). It is just not working when I use IWP on the server. Is it compatible, and if so, how can I get it to work? Thanks!

Hallo all, we have 2 filemaker server working together in LAN. First server host 'internal' databases used by the employees, the other one host a db that is published on the web. The internal db has various reference to open the web files and write or read them so that they can by frequently synchronized. Sometimes the web server need to be restarted, we close the databases and the internal files loose the reference. I usually restart filemaker application and the connection to the web server is automatically re-established but I'm wondering if there is another method to 'reload' the reference. I have computer A set up FM 8 (not server) hosting a simple file, open and fm network settings 'on'. I have computer B using FM 8.5 advanced attempting to open the file. I have FSA8 server running on one machine along with WPE on the same machine. On the second machine I installed Web Server Module and Admin console and entered the IP address of the machine containing WPE. When I enter http://localhost/fmi/config it says page not found and I notice there is no fmi directory in the webroot on the machine I installed the Web server module. I am more familiar with the OS X installation. I am following the instructions from the FMSA_web_install.pdf. Any suggestions that might help are appreciated.

I set up Server 8 on an XP box and I have many PC clients (with FMP8.5) and one mac laptop (with FMP7). The PC clients connect and work great with the server. However, the mac client doesn't show anything in the list when I click "Open Remote..." and it gives me a not found error when I type in the path manually. Why won't my server talk to my mac?
