So this might pertain to later versions of the Server, but since I haven't tested it on newer ones, I'll just let this question sit here. I have created the image according to these official instructions and everything is mostly working fine except for EAR passwords not being saved upon reboots. Within a single session those are saved, fmsadmin stop and start server preserve them, but reboot your container - they're gone. It's the same as taking a drive with a FileMaker Server install and plugging it into another machine. Those passwords seem to be dependent on some kind of hardware ID that Docker re-generates upon every boot, so those keys don't validate afterwards.…

We've just switched over to Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. I created a super simple (and supportable) way of doing this. We're using FileMaker Server on Windows but this method should work with other OS's as well with a bit of adapting. Install Certbot from https://certbot.eff.org. Run Certbot from the Start Menu and enter the following command to configure it: certbot certonly --webroot -w"C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\HTTPServer\conf" This is assuming that FileMaker Server is installed on Drive C in the default folder. Enter the details for the certificate. Create a new file called '…

I'm currently developing a custom FileMaker plugin made in Rust using the fm_plugin crate. I've used a bare-minimum example (that is provided in the repository for that crate), it loads on FileMaker Pro 19.6.x without a prompt (and using self-signed certificate), but it refuses to load on FileMaker Server v19.6.1.52, but I'd like to use it on FileMaker Server (but I can't because it refuses to load). We've contacted Claris Support already but they've been no help with this issue. The OS the server that FileMaker Server is running on is Windows Server 2016 (we're upgrading to Windows Server 2020 later this year). See the following screenshot; Here is w…

Greetings, I've installed Filemaker Server 19 on a separate Windows 11 PC, I hosted my Filemaker Solution on it but I am having difficulties accessing it from Filemaker Pro 19 client on a different PC (same network). The Filemaker solution was originally Shared without a Server and I can access it without a problem. During Filemaker Server installation and configuration it asked for a custom SSL certificate but since I don't have one I just go with the built it Filemaker custom SSL (for test purposes). I am not sure but that doesn't seem to work to connect with Filemaker Clients. How can I get a free SSL and how to install/configure it properly? Thanks.

I have an ODBC link between FileMaker server and the SQL database back-end for Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains. This link was initially made well over ten years ago and has functioned nearly flawlessly over the years. In that time, both FMP and GP have been on different servers and different version but always the link worked. Earlier this year, we made three changes. GP moved to a new server. FMP moved to the old GP server. FMS was upgraded from 18 to 19. Every since then, the ODBC connection has been unreliable. It has been failing at least several times a month, often once a week, and sometimes multiple times a week. This is a critical link and must be rock-solid.…

I am trying to install FMS on a Windows Server running on VMware fusion on a Mac, but at the end of the process I get a message saying that port 80 is in use and that it must be made available for the installation to complete. However I have run "Netstat -a -o" in Command Prompt and the only thing using port 80 as far as I can see is TCP. Is there a way around this problem? If so, I would love to hear it.

I am an accidental early adopter of Filemaker Server 19.4.1 - something I don't make a habit of. One of the new features in this version of Filemaker Server is remote access to the Admin Console. This is great if you want that functionality, but if you have an internet-facing server then you probably...don't. It seems Claris put in an undocumented way of disabling this new functionality. In HTTPServer\conf is web.config (at least on Windows). This contains the following commented out section: <!-- Admin Console restriction access To grant remote access for Admin Console, you can uncomment the following with IP address --> &l…

When it comes to #FileMaker #hosting, it has been clear for a while that fmcloud.fm has the most advanced technology. That is the reason why it was awarded Best Innovation 2021 by Claris It is a less known fact that fmcloud.fm is also among the least expensive services. Partly because the #docker / #linux architecture is cost efficient (and, by the way, #environmentfriendly), but also because our goal is to provide the best value to our customers. 📣 That is why today, as the exchange rates have recently evolved, we decided to align our USD rates with our Euros rates. This is a great news for the US #FileMaker community. 🇺🇸 Benefit now from the best hosting ser…

I noticed my server didn't have http 2 enabled and thought it was because I was on Windows Server 2016. I have just installed a new VM with Windows Server 2019 and http 2 is still not enabled. Any ideas why this would be? According to Claris it shouldn't require any configuration. I am using FileMaker Server 19.1.2 (as 19.2.1 wouldn't install for some reason). Edit: Think I found the issue - it requires 19.2.1, which I couldn't install as the installer didn't work. Oh well - hopefully sort it soon.

One of the new features in 19.4.1 is that Session Identifier replaces User Name in the server logs and Admin Console. This seems like an improvement. We use the following steps in our startup scripts: #Set Session Identifier, except for Server Scripts If [ PatternCount ( Get ( ApplicationVersion ) ; "Server" ) = 0 ] Set Session Identifier [ Let ( [ PersistentID = " (" & Right ( Get ( PersistentID ) ; 5 ) & ")" ; SessionID = Get ( AccountName ) & PersistentID ]; If ( Get ( SystemPlatform ) = 4 or Get ( SessionIdentifier ) = "" or Get ( SessionIdentifier ) = SessionID ; SessionID ; "Multiple Accounts" & PersistentID ) ) ] End If This shows the …

When I send via SMTP server through a database on FM Server, is the IP address that sends out the SMTP command to the server that of the local computer on which the FM client is hosted, or does it correspond to the remote server on which FM Server is hosted? My impression is that it is the IP address of the local computer, since I have always assumed that the software is actually run locally, even if it is hosted remotely. Am I right? Send to SMTP Server no longer works for me, and I suspect the problem stems from the tendency of my university to go overboard on protection after some serious ransomware attacks a couple of years ago among other threats. My tech suppor…

I just upgraded our server to FMS 19.5.1 running on Windows Server 2019. It stopped at the service account screen. After looking into it for a while (and uninstalling FMS) I found that stopping the HTTP service by running 'Net Stop HTTP' fixed the issue. I ran this after the part where IIS is installed/configured. Hope this helps others with the same issue.

Hi folks. Have been running multiple FMS instances in macOS for quite some time, but we're mainly a Linux hosting company, so have been looking at FMS Linux on Ubuntu. It's all running fine, except for one thing which I hope someone can help me with. When we setup our other VMs on Linux, we use IPTables firewall in a number of standard ways to secure the VPS as a whole (regardless of what application(s) are running on it). Now the default setup of FMS on Ubuntu Linux (and CentOS before it I think) uses firewalld to manage connection permissions. This is just an interface to IPtables I think, and so I spend some time learning how to do the things I nee…

I have a solution that uses container fields to store a large number of documents. It was suggested that I rebuild my FM environment to use two separate machines, one for FM Server and one for the container field storage. I have the two machines setup and have mapped a shared volume to the FM Server machine. I can move files to and from the share, so I know it is working. I am using the following path in the Admin Console: filewin:/Y:/Test/ Where Y:/ is the mapped drive and Test in the shared folder. I get an invalid path error when trying to save this path. The two servers are not in the same domain and do not have AD running, but they e…

Hi All, Before I call FM I thought I would check here for info. No, before you ask, I don't have a subdomain or an ssl certificate for this server. So is that the ONLY way to get web publishing to run? This would have been an internal only service and we don't want or need outside access. So ssl and fully qualified DNS is way overkill.

I installed Filemaker Server 19.4.2.204. on Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.6. I am currently having problems enabling web publishing primary machine. Event Log: Error 701 Java Web Publishing Engine process has terminated abnormally. I made a second Ubuntu installation this time using the Server version and it worked normally. Has someone got any idea what could be the problem? I would like to have a desktop enviroment for convenience. My only idea was to install the server version, set everything up and then install the desktop enviroment, but there has to be an easier way?

I really need some pointers from experiences JSON users. Because I'm totally new there. Here's what I need to do. I have created a FM db with a PriceList imported from Zoho Books/Items. I want to update the latest prices from Zoho Books/items. I'm not sure which way to go and what to learn first. Because there will be more of this type of integration between Zoho One and our FM databases. From my first researches I see a lot pf people using Postman, I played a bit with …

Wanted to share a fix with yall. I had been struggling to find a solution that clients began to report to me months after they first noticed (which made tracking down any changes that may have lead to this difficult). Uploads to containers slowed in a major way. What used to take 1 second, took 1-3 minutes. It didn't matter if the container was stored internally or externally, encrypted or not. Since many of my applications are in the arts with a significant number of image uploads, this became majorly problematic. I had searched this and Claris's forums, and only found suggestions like replacing the SSL certificate, saving the files as condensed copies, reinstalling the …

Hello all, I searched for this in the forums but didn't find anything. I am running windows 10, filemaker 19 off Server 19. My question is about a value list. I have a project table and I have a task table. It's a one to many relationship (1 project, many tasks). Each task has line items for parts and labor. A lot of the tasks are similar or even identical. Rather than have the user enter the same line items over and over again, I would like them to have the option of "importing" the line items from another task. So I want to use a value list to display all the other tasks under the same project. I created a self join based on the project ID and made a value lis…

Hello everyone, I have a situation right now that is causing me a lot of headaches. I have the following scenario, two machines, one as a filemaker server and the other as a filemaker worker, everything is working, except sending emails, I'm using the sendmail script. If I send an email by accessing the filemaker server I can send it without any problems, but if I try to send through filemaker worker I get the error saying smtp authentication failed. Does anyone have any suggestions on this problem? Does anyone else have an implementation of this type Filemaker Server + Filemaker Worker? Thanks

This is kind of an open question about the recommended, and cost effective hardware configuration for FileMaker Server on Azure. We have a 30 user 10gb database, plus 40gb (270,000 files and 850,000 folders) of secure externally stored container fields. It is hosted on FileMaker Server 19.4.2.204, on Windows Server 2019 hosted on Azure, with 16gb ram, Xeon 8171M @ 2.60Ghz, D4s_v3. The database is accessed over WAN, and end user speed is great. Since we have switched to secure external container storage, the FMS backups are quicker, it takes an hour, but our remote backup software (Ahsay - which backs up just one copy of the database daily - FMS backs it up w…

Hello, I hope I can get any insight about the problem I am experiencing when trying to schedule a script to print PDF and send email with it. Scenario: - Filemaker Server 19.4.1.41 deployed on macOS (Catalina) - Font Ronnia.ttf installed on Library/Fonts or Users/{{username}}/Library/Fonts (tried on both) - Schedule Script to run on server daily. I have tried with no luck: -…

Hello, I am running FMS 19 on windows. I am trying to create a billing package file. I go to an invoice layout and save it as a pdf, then I go to a detail layout and append that pdf. The issue I have is that I then need to append that pdf again with a sales order that a vendor has sent me but am having no luck. I tried inserting it into a container field set to interactive but it didn't work. It only adds a thumbnail with the file name. Is there a way to do this with a filemaker script? We do see the following on attempting to login to our solution: And when we click on the AD FS Option we do receive a login prompt from our Federated Services: However, even with the correct credentials we still see the followin…

Hello, I have recently moved my 360works email to the server and am trying to run the email script on the server side. It didn't seem to work although it did say it "succeeded". I did have some import steps from one table to another which I learned doesn't work on the server (that will be a separate topic) so I stripped all the parsing and importing parts of the script and just left section that downloads the emails and creates new records in an email table I have. I scheduled it to run several times a day and it ran well the first time but then the second time it ran for about a minute and said "succeeded" but did not download any emails. I stopped the server…

Hello, I recently became aware that you cannot import from one table to another using a server side script. I read that it should be done by exporting records from one table using Get(TemporaryPath) and importing using the same. I started fiddling with this and created a script like the one below in a test file. Go to Layout ["Export data" (export); animation:none] Set Variable [$v_path; value: Get(TemporaryPath) & "test_file.xlsx"] Export Records [With dialog:off; Create folers:On; "$v_path"; windows (ANSI)] Go to Layout ["Import data" (import); animation:none] Import Records [With dialog:of…

Hello, Last week I installed FMS 19.3 on Ubuntu Server 18.04, following the instructions in the article "The Penguin is Back!" The machine is on our internal network, which has no access to the outside world. I expected the performance to be pretty snappy with WebDirect, but that's not what I've seen so far. When I access the admin console from another machine on our LAN, it responds and renders almost immediately. But when I call up the WebDirect menu page, it takes about 10 seconds to load. Right now, I only have one small file on the server. When I click on its icon, it takes about 10 seconds for the login prompt to appear. Then, after logging in, it tak…

We recently moved and upgraded our FileMaker instance from 18 to 19 and from Windows Server 2012 to 2016. However, on the new (19) instance, I am getting the following error when I run "fmsadmin get cwpconfig": Error: 20405 (File not found or not accessible.) I am using our admin credentials and I can run "fmsadmin get serverconfig" and it returns fine. The server admin console on both instances match and I have yet to find anything in any config files that jumps out at me as being an issue.

Hello, Did my first install of FMS19 on CentOS 7 today. I can access the sample file via WebDirect from another computer on the network, and I can access the Admin Console. However, the desktop client doesn't even see the server. The server doesn't appear in the list of hosts; not even if I type in the IP address. I have opened port 5003 on the server's firewall, so it should be visible to the client app, right? Thanks!

I've created two servers (Windows Server 2019) that are (theoretically) identical. One for production and one for test. FM19 is set up for Web Publishing on each. The firewall settings match. I've opened all the specified Filemaker ports. All three servers are on the same network. I am able to connect a worker server to my Test server. I am not able to connect that same worker machine to the Production server. I've tried to connect while no users were signed in after the system had been freshly restarted. I've created a 2nd worker server in order to test. That server failed to connect to Production, as well. In the Filemaker Event log f…

We recently upgraded our FM server from FMS14 to FMS19. If I do recall correctly we were able to limit the amount of cwp users connected at the same time. It seems Claris has removed this capability and so, now and again, our FMServer is flooded with cwp-sessions. How would you suggest on to tackle this problem? Add a dedicated webserver to the setup again? Maybe there is another way of getting the amount of cwp-sessions connected? Thanks in advance!

It's consistently running higher than anything else on the server. Is this to be expected or should I suspect that something is wrong? After googling around, I merged a few scripts into one, to help set up and generate the certificates. Tried on CentOS/7 (couldn't get CentOS/8 to install fms_19.2.1-23) and with certbot installed already (sudo yum install epel-release && sudo yum install certbot) Here's my humble contribution: https://github.com/jon91/FileMaker-LetsEncrypt-CentOS-7

I have a global container field that I want to display a PDF in interactive mode, so that one can scroll through a multi-page document. Works when the file is local, but gives an error when hosted on FM Server 19 on Mac 10.14, with the client being FM 19.2.1 on OS 10.14 or 10.15. Works if I change it to non-interactive. Googling around, the answer is supposed to be that the server needs a valid SSL cert, needs port 443 open, and needs web publishing running. But all these conditions have been met, doesn't help. The error is always something lime this: Proxy GET /Proxy/98B041CA3BED0A7582EDA599467B187A.pdf?urlid=98B041CA3BED0A7582EDA599467B187A 1631 …

Hi all I have moved one of my databases (MessageObjects) to a subfolder (ContainerData) on FMS. I only moved the fmp12 file. FMS seems to have automatically created an RC_Data_FMS folder within ContainerData, and within it, there is a folder called MessageObjects. However in the root folder, where MessageObjects originally was, there is still, within the RC_Data_FMS folder, a MessageObjects folder. This isn't an issue as none of MessageObject's container data is stored externally. However I want to move another database to a different subfolder, and this one does have a lot of externally stored container fields. What is the best way to go about this? Just m…

Hello All, I'm looking for some kind of document; "Best Practices/Setup for Running FileMaker Server on Windows Server 2019". Can anyone point me to a good resource? Here's background and what's happening. We design and distribute the "SuiteFlow Total Office" system (all clients using the same system). We have many clients running their own FM servers; about half Mac and half Win. All of our Win installations are serving with WS 2016 (until now). Several of these servers having been running for years without a single problem! All Windows are running FileMaker Server 18 (newest version). Our Mac servers are running both FMS 18 and 19 with no major issues. …

I may in the future be part of a shared database that would include two, possibly more, distinct databases, and I would like to have a better understanding of the limitations, if any. Currently, whenever I want to replace my database with an updated version, I stop the database, import the data into the new version, the replace the old version with the new one, and then restart the database. As part of a shared database, would I need to stop activity for all of the other databases on the server whenever I want to update mine? Or is there a way to replace my database without stopping the other databases from functioning?

I'm sure this was deprecated a few versions back, but it would be nice to get a full listing of active clients on the server. I used to use this to check for multiple logins with the same account (which was a security problem suggesting accounts were being shared). Now, it seems, one has to specify the Client ID to get Account Name info as LIST CLIENTS does not offer the same. One could first do a LIST CLIENTS to source the IDs and then loop through each client using the STATUS CLIENT Command, but a simple option to list all would save a lot of scripting.

Hi all, I am creating a database with a simple set up; one table called shots (parent) related to another table called scans (child). I have created a portal in the shots (parent) table with a scripted button called 'create new scan record' that when pressed, creates a new record in the scans table attached to the same UUID from the shots table. This works well and links records from both tables. The problem I have is, I need to import a lot of data via a TabD into the scans table - probably a hundred records at a time that need to share the same UUIDs as the table records so they are linked and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there a script I can use to…

I can sense the eye rolls but, I’ve just upgraded to FMS19 on a MacPro after upgrading it to Big Sur and the database container fields are reporting missing files. I have defined the alternate database folder and its associated external storage volume which was verified. Could I have the syntax wrong? I have “filemac:/System/Volumes/External Data/Container Data/“. “External Data” is the name of my external drive. The “Volumes” folder is of course hidden but would that matter? I’ve tried unhiding it, but to no avail. Should one use “%20” in lieu of spaces? Should one use the sub folder “Container Data” in the path, or is that assumed anyway? I’ve tried these…

Hello Crew: So during beta, everything worked fine and I was delighted to see FMS 19 for Linux go into the first production release. So we installed Centos 7 anew, put an instance of FMS 19.1.2.234 on it - and it seemed to be running fine. First indication of problems: File upload through the Sharing menu option did not seem to be able to connect to the server. No biggie - so we hard-uploaded into the opt/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Database directory, changed ownership and permissions - and voila - the web interface shows the hosted file just fine. Webdirect works like a charm and we can access the file. ONLY: …

My new piece on Medium - with an in depth performance analysis between different types of deployment for FileMaker Server. Deployment in a Docker Container on a powerful cloud server comes out as a standout option. It will be fascinating to hear your own experience - does it differ from what my testing reveals? It will also be fascinating to hear from Wim how the results he gets from his new Punisher performance tool compare with what we get with dsBenchmark? I'm trying to install FileMaker Server 19.2.1 on Windows Server 2019 (a Microsoft Azure VM). However when I run the install it installs the prerequisites then shows the setup options dialogue (attached). I've seen some people had the same issue on the Claris forums, but mainly with FileMaker Pro (which installed no problem). None of the suggested fixes worked. If I try to install it once FileMaker Server 19.1.2 is installed it stops the installation from working and I have to run setup again with 'repair' to fix it.

Hi folks - we have a db hosted on FMPHost 19 shared server. I have go into FMServer Console and configured it to enable Google External Authentication and provided the client id and client secret of my google project. I added the oauth redirect URL of my FMPHost server to my Google project's allowed domains. I then added a test user to the database from the FM19 client Manage > Security add user > External auth > [email protected]. I rebooted the FM Server via the console. I made sure that the File Options are not set to automatically login as a local user. I then attempted to open the file via Google. Browser launches, I enter my Gmail credz and then imed…

Both servers will be MacOS running FMS 19.2.1 Feel free to just point me in the direction of documentation....I couldn't locate any that really addressed this.

Hello all, To make it easy for users to open their solution with an icon on their Desktop I've always made two different start files: - one for connecting from inside the local network with the datasource set to their local IP address: fmnet:/192.168.1.2/SolutionName - one for connecting via WAN with the datasource set to their WAN IP address or hostname: fmnet:/hostname.com/SolutionName But actually it would be cleaner to get this functionality with just one starter file, which automagically picks the right path. I tried adding both local and WAN hostname in the datasource specification, which works, but appears to cause a long delay time because File…

Hi all, I installed CentOS 7 (minimal) on a Mac Mini 6,2 Server model with Dual HD (250 GB SSD), got FMS 19 running on it, all was well. But if I try to reboot it or restart it the power light comes on but the OS doesn't appear to startup. I thought it was a fluke so I reinstalled everything from scratch, had everything running nicely again, held my breath while I did a reboot ... and the same thing happened. If I connect a monitor to it after a reboot attempt it's blank, i.e., no Terminal, nothing. It doesn't show up on my network at all. Is there something in particular I need to do to get this particular Mac Mini model to run CentOS? I Googled and f…

Hi, I have a newly setup FMS 19 machine on Mac Catalina. I would like to install FMPA 19 on the server machine to "remote connect" on a very occasional basis. I have done this with earlier version of FileMaker many times on many servers and works fine. Obviously, not to make this a workstation but it is useful for testing things sometimes. So, when I do this, I get: Conflict is with the server. So I am "conflicting with myself". Any ideas? THANKS. - Chris

I am trying to figure out why I am getting error code 1502 (Connection refused by SMTP server) whenever I send emails from a scheduled server script using the script step Send Mail [ Send via SMTP Server; . . . ]. The acting IT person in my department doesn't know FileMaker, so I am trying to help, but I didn't set up FM Server in the first place and don't have the kind of access he does. I would very much appreciate help from the Forum. The problem first arose when FM Server had to be reinstalled after a ransomware attack several months ago. The error has remained since then. I am quite certain there is no problem with the way I have configured the SMTP server in the sc…

I created a duplicate of a database with a few small changes that I introduced for testing purposes. The original database and the copy both have an account called automaticreminders on it. I saved the duplicate of the database on the server in the same folder as for the original, and then I duplicated the scheduled script as follows. Next, I tried to edit the schedule ExecuteDailyScripts Copy so that it would use the test version of the database rather than the original. But after changing the database and entering the account name and password, I get the following error: What do I need to do to make the scripts available to the account autom…

I host a database on my university computer to administer a series of group workshops for the undergraduate community in fall and early winter terms. Each morning at 7, FM Server executes a script to send out email reminders to all workshop leaders for their upcoming presentations; provide them with essential information about location; etc. We had a ransomware attack on my College's servers last winter. Fortunately, the attack happened after the workshop schedule was almost completed, but the emails stopped going out successfully after the College recovered from the attack. The error code is 1502: Connection refused by SMTP server. To complicate matters, the IT person at…

Hello, just setting up a new FMS Server Windows Server 2019. The recommended Setups by Filemaker clearly say we need Windows Server 2019 Standard with Desktop Experience. Thats also what we asked our hoster for. Indeed the machine that was set up for us by our hoster seems to be a "Windows Server 2019 Standard" (in the properties of the Computer). In the list of Features the words "Desktop Experience" as a feauture to activate, does not seem to be in the list either. Should I ask my hoster to reinstall a Windows Server 2019 standard with Desktop Experience? How important is the Desktop Experience part? What will it actually do? Than…

Several years ago I developed a FileMaker Pro-dependent room scheduling solution that populates a web page via ODBC connection to a macOS 10.12-based FileMaker Pro server, based on user input to that page (pick the room, see the schedule). The web page is hosted on an old macOS 10.9 web server. Our web site is moving to a campus hosted Drupal environment, but I can't move my custom solution that host, so we need to keep the old server running awhile longer while we figure out something else. At the same time our macOS 10.12 data server (FileMaker Server 16) is being replaced with a macOS 10.15 server (FileMaker Server 19). I thought I could just reroute the ODBC…

I have a file with 2 tables: updates on table A are imported into table B using the update matching records option based on a common id. I made the script and tested it without problem. Then I uploaded the file and scheduled the script to every x minutes. The script executes with full privileges. The scheduled execution seems to skip the import update, so table B never gets updated. The most surprising is that the script works as expected when executed manually but it doesn't do the import update in scheduled execution. I can't see any error code. Is this normal? I'm using FMS 19.0.1.103

I’m looking for insight / input regarding an at-home install of FMS 19. Because I’m mystified and can’t figure out what the problem is, I’m writing an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink in hopes that someone might recognize something. To that end, I’m including real local IP addresses (to try and avoid confusion). I’m enrolled in the Claris Developer program that allows me to install FMS and have up to three clients. I’ve installed FMS on two machines: a Win10 box that’s a regular presence on my LAN (hosts UniFi and Subsonic) and a Mac Mini running 10.15.6. (My life is simpler if I can get it running on the Windows machine but Win10 isn’t approved for FMS.) I’ve be…

My solution uses a lot of pdf files stored externally in container fields, in open, non-secure way but managed by FM. The stored files never change its content, it's just their number that increases day by day, I have more than 100.000, about 12GB. The Automatic Backup option in FMS copies the whole Database folder where my pdfs are, this makes backup slow, less secure and space demanding: 12GB per copy. I'm thinking of storing the container data in an external folder and convert the container into a calculated field. I know this requires extra control on file and folder locations, but on the other hand it would speed up and ease the backup process very much. …

We upgraded to FMS19 today and Google OAuth no longer works. The select an account screen comes up in a Browser, the redirect to our server is called and then there is no error and the DB is not logged in. It just leaves you at the login window. You could repeat this process over and over. If you reload the redirect URL you get an Authentication Failed error which I what I would expect if the authentication was failing. I think the original auth request is successful but does not open the DB. I also tested on another server with the same results.

I have a file I inherited from another person. I look at the database security and I see there are only two users: Admin (with full access privileges) and Guest (Read only access). The file is hosted in FMS19 and I open it from FMP because I want to set up a trigger script to execute OnFirstWindowOpen and OnLastWindowClose, so I go to File > File Options > Script triggers and I get a message saying: Specified account name and password can't be used to access the file. (message translated) How is this possible? Admin has full access privileges, what else is needed then?

It's time to clean the server space, I need to move some databases and design a new backup. I have some doubts: Is it safe to reorganize the Databases folder IF I stop the database server before doing so? is this safe enough? Should I clean all the backups in FMS Backups folder and start from anew? given that backups include hard links couldn't this render new backups unusable? Is it correct to replace databases with its FMP compacted copies? is it a good way to regain storage space? Thanks,

Hi, hopefully this is a simple question I host my databases on Filemaker Server (18, actually, but hoping answers are the same) I have Actual Technologies Access ODBC, which I can use to set up Access ODBC sources on my local machine. But I can't see any of those sources to connect to or create relationships because, I assume the external databases and ODBC settings are set upon my local Mac How (or where) do I set this up on Filemaker Server and does the local Access database need to be moved to the server too? Just a clarification to the second paragraph (above). My external source (currently) is on my local Mac as are the DSN set ups. Do these need…

I store documents (pdf, jpg,...) in a container field, externally and open, I see all of the container files under a RC_Data_FMS folder. I would like to be able to email one of these documents enclosed in the message using the Send mail script step, so I need to use the external file path of the container object. I've tried this locally and it works but I can't get it working in the hosted file. The path I use in the hosted file is: file:RC_Data_FMS/.../containerFieldName/file.pdf The hosted file that has to run the script is in the same level as the RC_Data_FMS folder, so all seems correct
