FileMaker Pro 12

I used FM since it wasn't an Apple-Claris app and I was always able to import in different records the various files ending with "TXT" e placing them in different field based on the tabs each file contained. The Carriage Return opened a new record and repeat the import based on the tabs. This until FMP found fies in the selected folder- Now I receve the options of 3 fields only: Content Name Path The content contains everything still I can read the various needed tabs but even if the first line has the correct names everything is just one enormous text file. The carriage return end the import and all other files remain in the original folder. …

He converted a few of my old FileMaker Pro Files from FM 4 up to Version 12. He sent them to me and I was able to use / open the files until the trial version ran out. If I buy the FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced License Key Card for Mac & Windows, FULL VERSION will it allow me to continue using Filemaker Pro 12 on my computer or no?. Please help! Thanks, R

Hi everyone: given that a runtime app is a stripped-down fileMaker with just enough FileMaker to make the thing go; I would assume that just the runtime environment and the data file’s minimum system requirements would be very similar to if not slightly less than the System Requirements For The Full FileMaker Pro 12 or 12 Advanced applications as stated by Claris/FileMaker does anyone have an idea as to if the requirements are less than, greater than, or equal to those linked above? If the minimum requirements for runtime apps differ in any significant way; please specify how they differ. thanks for the help

Hello: I want to ensure that my stand-alone runtime solutions are protected from software piracy, rather than trying to make a serial checking algorithm myself, I have a software protection system that wraps my runtime EXE in a shell that then keeps track of the trial limits and handles entering of registration keys. Hi: I understand that Runtime Solutions are designed to be single-user, but could a runtime solution be deployed on a Windows Terminal Server and there be no ill effects, or would the thing just refuse to run under such conditions? I know that when I installed my copy of FileMaker Advanced 12 on a terminal server; it didn’t like that too much as apparently my key isn’t enabled for that. So would a runtime app also complain?

Hello: I've created custom menus one of which either About my App or Quit. I inserted my custom Quit Option and the default Exit shows up. How do I fix this? Screen 01: Menu W/ 2 options to quit. I'd much prefer to have the First option (Quit Hologram 360) as the one and only way to quit the application Screen 02: Menu as it is defined under File > Manage > Custom Menus. Hello: I seem to remember (probably incorrectly) that for the longest time Claris/FileMaker had a "Graphics Kit" of sorts that had things like icons for tasks like adding, deleting, sorting, and finding records as well as other FileMaker tasks. I have a table with about 100,000 records. One of the fields in the table is called "DecimalNumber" (type is "Number"). There are many records (perhaps 10 to 20%) which have the same value in that field as another. Sometimes only 2 records have common values, sometimes more. What I want to do is to delete all records except one of each of those which share a value, thereby removing 'duplicates'. How do I achieve this? Hello Does anyone know how to change the cursor position in a Text Field from auto positioning at the bottom of the text to the top of the text? Dear All, I am using FM to create a MS Word file from a template, via 360Scribe. That is all working fine. What I want to do is immediately open the Word doc once it's created. I've been trying with the Send Event script step. Initially I had 'file not found' error messages, but after tweaking the file path I no longer see those. However, the file still doesn't open. I have a FileMaker solution that I have opened in FMPro 12 on a host machine that has a public IP address and all port forwarding set. I am able to connect to the files via OPEN REMOTE and the IP address of the machine from my Mac - and the files work perfectly, so the port forwarding appears to be correctly configured. When I try the exact same thing from a PC, the files do not show up in the open remote dialog box. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bonnie

I love the way FileMaker 12 can do drag and drop on a container field. I know that I can right click and choose insert file and I will get the option I need. I want to know if there is a way to make it so via drag and drop, or any method of putting a file in FileMaker, it ALWAYS remains a reference? Or is the only way via the right click manual method.

I have FileMaker Pro 12 installed on four computers on my network, and FileMaker Pro Advanced 12 stored on a fifth computer. There is a shared database stored on one of the first four computers. When using the shared database from the fifth computer and I attempt to check any of the checkboxes for the field Events, I see the message shown in the attachment and I am unable to check the checkbox (This behavior occurs only on the fifth computer). If I then do a search, after doing the search I am able to check any of the checkboxes in the previously problematic field. I've restarted the fifth computer and the problematic behavior stills occurs. Any suggestions?

I am examining a demo file. The field SportName uses a curious auto entry calculation. Let[Trigger=SportCategory;""], where SportCategory is another field in the same table. What's the purpose and what does it mean? Being auto entry, I thought it only effected new records.

I have a script that is supposed to open a URL. Instead, it opens a folder on my desktop. Two script steps: Enter browse mode; OpenURL. The field that the script uses is a text field and contains the web address that starts with http://. Why should it be opening a folder? I can't find a setting anywhere to control this.

Now don't jump all over me for using repeating fields. I have done this in other FM tables but I've got a new one where it just isn't working. I have an itemization list and cost in separate repeating fields, 10 reps. I've done this before where I create a calculation field get the the Sum of the cost field. Sum(ItemizationCost). But in this new table it's not getting anything past the first iteration of the field. I've tried various other scenarios all to no avail. Everything is in the same table. Any suggestions?

I have created a script that calls an Applescript that talks to Keynote. Using Filemaker's Applescript calculation dialog, when I update the external applescript, Filemaker does not pick up the changes. I'm running 12.0 v5 Advanced. Currently they receive drawings in both electronic and paper format .. these may have typed or hand written instructions on them regarding the bill of quantities which engineers would then read & type into the filemaker database creating the required quote for the customer. Each ticket is associated with multi ticket items (ticket ID) I have a form which includes a portal windows How can I prevent user from modifying or adding to the existing portal rows (ticket items) once the ticket is closed? I'm new to FM. I working with FM PRo 12. I have a table called "Performance" that holds data from farmers activities. There are fields for task, actual time, Efficiency percentage, Reference Efficiency, Time Efficiency, and a Summary field for Time (used in the calculation of Efficiency percentage and Time Efficiency. Every activity has a portal for "Performance". The calculation are correct in the portal but not in the parent table. How do I correct this situation?

Mac OSX 10.9.5. Today i was messing around trying to get connected to a client's Server via the admin console - in banging around with that I updated Java. At some point I went back to do something else with my local copy of FMPA 12 and it wouldn't launch the app... when I click on it in the dock or the app folder itself the splash screen appears for a bit then goes away.... just like I had quit the app. I restarted the computer, did a single PRAM zap, reinstalled FMPA12, uninstalled Java... all to no avail. All worked fine earlier today. Java could be a red herring in all of this. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

On the Filemaker site it says: FileMaker 12 and earlier versions of FileMaker have not been tested or certified with OS X Yosemite (10.10). These products were developed and released before OS X Yosemite became available. While these earlier versions may install and run on OS X Yosemite (10.10), you may encounter installation and stability issues for which there is no resolution. I was hoping using something such as Google Maps, I could find a way for Filemaker to parse/extrapolate the driving distance between Address1 and Addresses 2,3,4,5. Hi all and thanks for looking, I've got a container field to which I drag & drop references to PDF files as a sort of library within the database solution. It is formatted as: -reduce or enlarge image to fit -maintain original proportions ON -Interactive content The referenced PDF files are stored on the same remote machine as the .fmp12 file. The problem is sporadic crashing of acrobat within the container field. Either when dropping a new PDF file into the container or when trying to view one in the container. I'm looking to run FM Pro 11 and FM Pro 12 on the same mac, with each hosting on a different IP address. However, so far I've not found a way to do this, as it seems that each program picks up *both* IP addresses.

I have a report layout (see attached) that has two columns (far right) that I would like to have summed. e.g "1" under the first of the right side columns and "4" for the farthest right column. I cannot see how I can go about doing this as the raw list will consist of multiple occurrences of the same customers (hence the need for a sub-summary layout). I run a retail show and I give away $2 off coupons by email, but I am finding that people are printing about 25 of them and handing them out in the line to buy your tickets. I have gotten this message twice. It, of course, abruptly closes my app. The cause is a popup that I created to select reports to be run: For such a short section of script, it runs v e r y s l o w l y. One thing that may have caused this error, is that I upgraded from 02 and then thought I might have accidentally selected FM Pro 12 03 instead of FM Pro ADVANCED 03. Filemaker's official release-notes page for the FM Pro / Pro Advanced12.0v5 updater (weighing in at 750MB,) lists "OS X 10.9 Mavericks" compatibility and "other bug fixes" but doesn't go into any further detail. Anyone have a list of the smaller bug fixes in the 12.0v5 updater? Anyone else installed it yet, and if so, what are your experiences with it? Any new problems or new bugs so far?

I have a small Notes area in a portal row that I want my users to be able double click on and bring up a more robust Notes area. If they don�t double click I want the same functionality before the script, that was it edited the Notes in place when they click. I have seen some scripts that do this like this one (pic) but I think my problem is that I want click on the text area as the button that tells the script to run. Once this click is made it cancels out the double click procedure. I have played around with some script steps and move some other login into the script, but after spending some time I decided to try to get an answer to is this even possible.

After converting an existing FM11 file to FM12, some of my users are experiencing a strange issue that causes their Filemaker to become completely unresponsive to mouse clicks or keyboard interaction. The FM Menus can still be dropped down but selecting an option does nothing. The only way to fix the issue is to Force Quit Filemaker Pro and reopen the program. I've looked through the known bugs for FM12 but I cannot find anything that matches this issue. Has anybody else experienced this?

When the cursor is in a field and you type "cmd <" on a Mac with a Swiss French keyboard, the font size of the field drops by a point and when the cursor is not in a field, nothing happens. Unfortunately I have been using the same keyboard shortcut for a about 30 years to toggle between windows within the same application. Would anyone know how to deactivate "cmd <" in Filemaker or know how to redefine it?

Trying to determine the way to show the sequence of numbers in a different order. I have a data base with UPC numbers that come as 4567890 or 6789405 + any other order but all have the same numbers. I am using find but it will only identify duplicates, not if they are in a different sequence. Please explain to me the way this can be accomplished. Tim

I thought I would share some of my disastrous issues with FM12 --- some of these have not been discussed here. Fortunately, fm support now has copies of the solution I have which demonstrates a huge number of problems and have been quite good in their feedback to date. Mac OSX 10.8.4 2 accounts on computer, both admin (keeping a consulting gig separate from my main account) FileMaker Adv 12.4 Issue: In one of my accounts, FM12Adv will not open. I've repaired my permissions on this volume. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but I still get no love from FileMaker in this one account. I've attached the crash log. This specific behavior doesn't seem to be covered by any of the other threads I've seen cataloging problems with FMA: I think it's slightly drunk. When I move from Layout to Browse, the menu still displays the tools from Layout. When I move from Browse to Layout, the tool icons (arrow T line square etc) don't appear in the header. When I change from one layout to another, the LAYOUT: indicator doesn't update to reflect the new layout. When I change the name of a layout, then referernce it in a script, the script still shows me the previous layout name. I have a possible solution for a large database with up to aprox 40,000 different slow moving stock lines at any time, 60,000 customer details and 20,000 components at any time. We would need to be able to calculate stock levels regularly and run aged stock reports in particular we would need to be able to run this for previous dates not just today. Would FileMaker crack or is there some way of getting this easily? The best thing is if we could run calculations of things like stock quantity and value. I rarely write, mostly read and learn. Have been using FM since 7. Currently using FM12 Pro, Pro Advanced, Advanced Server. All are up to date. Actually never had any version prior to FM 12 crash. Now am experiencing unexpected crashing, slow responce when simply navigating to another layout and many other anomalies that we never experienced before. This happens in XP-Pro, Windows 7. A filed with Numeric format designated to store amount cash dividends paid in currency format. This field, however, for sometime is empty if there was no dividends was paid. But keeping the field empty might be misleading for the user. I decided to replace the empty value with "No Dividends for This Year". Becuase the field is in currency format I can't show the text in it. Is there a way to make the field shows a text if the value is empty without afecting the numeric values for other years that table.

I recently converted a cashbook app from 11 to 12 - it has a simple global container (not saved remote) that is for the user to import their logo - jpg etc . Same application works fine in 11 with simple data_entry level access but in FMP12 it requires full access. Any other level and the field becomes inaccessible. I have created new global containers and they behave the same way. It is something to do with privilege settings but I can't find anything wrong and I can't find any reference to this anywhere on the web.

Until recently, stuck on FMP 9, I could de-activate a computer by going to the Help menu. I bought FMP 12 for a client, and used a copy of it to do development work for her. Now I can afford (just!) to buy my own FMP 12 Advanced, I want to release the copy so that my client can use it. Does 'deactivate' still exist in FMP 12? Thanks Emma

Greetings Filemaker Gurus. When FMP 12 was first released I tried installing it on one of my workstations, and did a database conversion from 10 to 12 "locally." At the time I was not very pleased with the performance drop I saw from switching to 12. The database appeared to be running slower, and all sorts of graphical issues were making my layouts look very ugly, like buttons were no longer clicking, just would go to the page. I am not sure if performance would be better or worse once I upgraded our FMP Server 10 to Server 12, but I wasn't willing to risk it, I decided to wait a while and see if any patches were released. After converting and discovering some corruption, I'm attempting to repair my files before recovery and i'm getting a "invalid table key" error.. Recovery resets it but I would like to fix this myself without having to recover the file. Can anyone provide any info on this recovery error?

Hello - I am collaborating with someone in the next state on my Food Pantry solution. He is far more skilled at this than I am to say the least... We're using a hosting service (fm47.###.net) to work together. If he is sitting on a layout and I try to hop on it, FM does its thing and warns that the layout is being worked on, that it's locked and would I like to chat with the person sitting on it. I typed a short message and hit Send. He says he sees the message but cannot reply. We're trying to figure out how to make this work from both ends. Have to capture current Layout Name, Table Name and Tab Name. First two are done by Get ( LayoutTableName ) and Get(LayoutName). The third, to get current Tab name, should go with Get(TriggerCurrentTabPanel). Manual says that is has to go along with OnTabSwitch script trigger. When I try to set OnTabSwitch script trigger, right click on button, it wont allow me to use it. All other options on trigger menu are available but OnTabSwitch. I did check are Tabs named properly and it seems ok. If anyone can help, please welcome. Best regards

Hi, I'm using LibreOffice Base to create queries that retrives data in Filemaker via the ODBC driver. Since version 12, it seems like the connection is well done but the data cannot be retrieve, I get this error message: "The data content could not be loaded. The execution of the query doesn't return a valid result set." If anyone could help me with that I would be glad! Thanks

After updating FM 12 Advanced v12.01 to v.12.03, I happily worked with the program and didn't noticed any problems, till today. I started working on my file again and scripting away, un till I wanted it to debug. Opened data viewer and ran the script, but nothing showed up in the data viewer. No global variables, nothing. So I tried again and again. Made a new file, changed lay outs, threw away my preferences, etc, etc. But even on a new bare file I didn't get something to show up in the data viewer. Running it with script debugger where you go step by step, everything is there. But after the script has run, bingo... empty viewer. When I switch to Watch in the data viewer…

After such a long wait (25 months) and so much secrecy about it, FM 12 was finally out! Being a newcomer to FM 11, I reasoned: "if there are so many developers behind FMI products, it must be worth getting FM 12"... Big mistake! After reading about some of the performance issues apparently associated with version 12 I can't imagine why I'd spend $300.00 to upgrade to a product that seems, despite the addition of features, in many ways to be a big step backwards.

We are running Filemaker Advanced on a Mac OS X 10.7.4 Lion. Remote connections randomly and intermittenly drop. There doesn't see to be a great load on the Mac. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?

I am coming back to filemaker after a long break, since the introduction of FM7. Should I upgrade to to FM12 from an unused version 11 before I start work on my solution? Otherwise I will have to work on 11 and upgrade all to 12. It would seem a shame to have to upgrade to a new format later when it is already here.

In the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, Application section of the OS X Keyboard System Preferences, I've defined some shortcuts for menu commands which can't be selected for Custom Menus, like Script Debugger and Custom Functions, or to use keys which are common in other applications (like Cmd-plus and -minus to zoom in and out, which FM's Custom Menus doesn't accept as shortcuts). I am running FMP12 Advanced on OS 10.6.8 and it is unexpectedly quitting on me several times per day. I just opened it this morning, told it to create a new starter solution, and as soon as I clicked save it quit on me. I cannot remember the last time FMP11 quit on me. We just upgraded to FMSA 12 from version 11. It appears that when pasting information into a text field the text's format comes along for the ride. This didn't happen in version 11. I'm assuming it's because of themes? We often copy from one source of information (email, web, word documents, etc.) into FileMaker. Having differing fonts and sizes in text fields has become annoying to the users. Is it possible to turn this new "feature" off? Or, is there some other way of maintaing the font and size that is configured for the field? Many thanks.
