FileMaker Server 7

Discussing issues with Server version 7

  1. Started by Jen Yen,

Is it at all possible to toggle between 2 or more scripts in version 7? I have a container and one graphic is placed in there for a period of time (made that script and works fine). I also want to be able to change the graphic to the "next level" graphic when clicking on the container box. Is there a way to toggle between scripts if I want to go back to the first graphic when clicking on the same container? Thanks for any help.

  2. Hey there, We have a Mac OSX server with Filemaker 7.0, and a Windows 2003 server with Filemaker 5.5. I'd really like to get rid of our Mac server and put them both on the same server. However, I have a feeling issues may arise by having two different versions of Filemaker on the same server. Will this be an issue? I know this is a strange setup with old versions of Filemaker, but both of our databases are dependent on their versions, particularly the database hosted on 5.5. We are considering a second, dedicated Windows server to host Filemaker 5.5, but it'd certainly save a little bit of money by putting them on the same machine... Any advice / sugge…

  3. We recently moved a FM Pro app (7) from one box to another by copying the files. When users try to open the application (usually they RDP to the server and Terminal services is set to open the app by default), they receive "dbname.fp7 could not be opened. Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on the host". It works if the application is up in the old server . We've checked the file references are pointing to the local ip in new server. Please help us out trouble shoot this.

I just upgraged to FMP 9 Advanced yesterday. We have FMS 7 and FMP 7 on all workstations (except mine now...which has been upgraded). I use a shortcut on the desktop to open our database: fmp7://10.168.1.101/customers.fp7 It doesn't work with FMP 9 Advance. So, I tried the alternative. File > Open > Remote. In the dialog box, it shows the correct host on the left side, but it doesn't show any available files. There should be several. So, I opened FMP 7, File > Open > Remote, and it lists all the files there. I can still open the database under FMP 7 but NOT under FMP 9 Advance. When I manually enter the network file path, it says: "Cu…

Hi all, Perhaps I am overlooking the absolute obvious but I have problems accessing image files (jpg) from FileMaker Server 7. The files are (as per the handbook recommendations) located in root/Library/WebServer/Documents/ These images should show in FileMaker Client using a Calculation field that reads the path to the image file where the result is the image displayed in a Container. The databases are located in the folder root/Library/FileMaker Server 7/data/databases/ I have tried just about any file path syntax I can think of, but the calculation field remains blank. Perhaps this is just too obvious. Help is greatly appre…

Okay, there are several things I need help with. 1) On Mac OS X 10.5, Under sharing I'm not seeing ODBC/JDBC. How to get this option to show up in the menu? Note: I have the same FM Pro 7, installed on windows XP, and it's showing up, just not on Mac. 2) I've written a Java Application to try and connect to the FM Pro 7 database on my windows version. I have already turn on ODBC/JDBC sharing, to all users, and added the ODBC/JDBC privilege to the users, the fm pro file is also opened within FM Pro. This is the error I get from my application: java.sql.SQLException: [DataDirect][sequeLink JDBC Driver][sequeLink Server]Unable to retrieve error message from b…

Been a long time since I've been on the forum so please excuse any social gaffes. I have spent several days searching this and other forums and have seen several similar situations but can't find an answer that works, but feel free to point to one if anyone knows of one. Have been running FMSA7 on Dell 1750 with Win2003 and IIS for about 4 years. Solutions are served to remote clients and to web via IWP. This machine also hosts a couple of websites, FTP server, and streaming video. None of these gets a large volume of traffic. Recently lost our access to IWP. I can see the Database Homepage and filenames but get a "Database Not Available" error when tryin…

Hi - I'm not sure this is the right forum for this post, but maybe one of you all can help me. Please forgive my ignorance, I'm not a very high level user. I'm running FM7 on Mac OS Tiger. I'm trying to connect to remote files that are open in Server V7 on another Mac, also running Tiger. These files can be opened by another of our staff members on her Mac. The issue is that when I try to open the "File > Open Remote..." dialog in my copy of FM7, the dialog will not open at all. If I bring up the open local file dialog, "File > Open...", this dialog will open, but when I click the "Remote..." button within this dialog, nothing happens. I have t…

I have been running FMS7 on Windows SBS 2003 successfully for years. We are replacint the SBS 2003 server with a SBS 2008 server. 1. I copied the databases to the new server. 2. I installed FMS7 on the SBS 2008 server with the same license key. 3. I stopped the FMS services on the old server and started them on the new server. The FMS server admin shows that the databases look fine and are in Normal status. However, the FM clients cannot see the databases on the new server through Open Remote. I entered the IP address for the new server, but it can't see any DBs. Even if I specify the name of a database, the clients can't open them. Please help.

Hi, I'm having problems with my solution and would appreciate any help or suggestion that could solve my problem in the shortrun... I have a solution where users can run scripts that requiere a lot of iterative processes with queries. This ends up with 5 or more users using that kind of functionality at the same time and so the fmserverd process gets to 170% of CPU (although the system has 90% idle). This makes the application run slowly. At the moment I am using the pause scriptsept in scripts to help the server so that it does not get to heavy load that easy and I am considering running those processes in the background of users in future versions. I would lik…

  15. Hi, I'm relatively new to FileMaker Pro hosting, and i have just inherited the administration of a FileMaker 7 Server, which has a mixture of Filemaker 7 - 10 file on it. I'm wondering if someone can tell me if there will be problems hosting a FileMaker 10 file on this server? Has anyone out there had experience with this? Cheers

Forgive me if this isn't the right forum - I'm currently using 5 (not server) and installed 7 (also not server) as a first step toward catching up. But when I convert my current DBs into 7, all the text is blurry, like it's displaying a low-quality .jpg. It's all in Times New Roman but changing it to something else doesn't help. How can I fix this, please? I'm using Vista Home Premium 32 bit (NOT XP). Thanks.

I have a mixed network of Macs & PCs connecting to FMS7 which is hosted on a Mac G4 running 10.3.5. Yesterday I erased the HD several times, did a complete OS reinstall and did not update it. I reinstalled FMS7 and updated it to 7.04. Yesterday when I left the office, FMS7 and Admin were both working perfectly. When I open Server Administrator on the Server and connect to FMS, I get a blank info screen for about 30 seconds and then an error message saying it couldn't connect. This same thing was happening before the reinstall. The Activity Monitor shows FMS running and we are able to connect to the database through FMS with no problems. I've …

I'm brand new to Filemaker server. Am looking at a copy of FMP Server 7. But, most development work for DB's to be hosted was done on FMP 6. Will this be a problem? I know FMP Server 7 was a BIG upgrade, so I'm not sure if it can handle and work with FMP 6 files. And if the clients with FMP 6 installed can still open the files hosted by FMP 7 server. make sense? Any help?

  19. First off, there are several things wrong in terms of best practice, and I'm aware of them, but it's the database owner's decision. So that said, I'm trying to find out if the issue is not necessarily related to the violation of best practices, and if so, any possible remedy. Client: OS X, 10.5 (latest). FileMaker Developer 7.0v3. (v. 7 is not supported by FMI, and even when it was, v. 7 was not supported under 10.5). Server: OS X, OS X 10.4.11 (non server). FMS 7.0v4. I found that when opening a database on the server from my client, and making schema or accounts changes (with no one doing anything on the database) (I realize that many would recommend a c…

OK I have a FMS 7 serving around 20 FMP 8 clients. I have amended/ added a number of files on FMP 9A and added them to the server, one using the dacons mail-it plugin. On trying to access these files via FMP 9A I get the response "This action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable" The files have network sharing on, and Network access to file is set to all users so why are they not modifiable???....don't think Im being totally dim, but its a possibility!

  22. Hi All, We have FMSA7 running on a mac and this server hosts many databases. Suddenly, when we tried to login into the FileMaker Server Admin and when we were prompted to enter the password, the application was not accepting the password. But we feel that the password is correct. All the databases are still being served but we are unable to launch the FileMaker Server Admin application. We went to the unix shell and tried to execute the fmsadmin -v command and we were asked to enter the password. At the command level, the password was accepted and all the server info was displayed. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and how did you resolve this situation. A…
