Please help! My wife's computer is connected to our LAN wirelessly, mine via ethernet. We both have iMacs running 10.4.9 and both have copies of Filemaker Pro 6. She is hosting a file. But when I select "Open Remote" I get nothing. I've checked our sharing settings and it all makes sense to me. If she closes the file, I can go through the network and host it myself, so I know we're connected. Thanks for your suggestions! Steve

  4. :( What are the steps to sharing FM Database file on network. I have developed a db and I am now ready to share it with my associates. I do not have the slightest clue on how to set this up. I will host file on my computer and will have 3 client logging on to it. What do I do? I am on a MAC platform Thank you for any help!

  5. I have a very small database that is being used by several different users, we all have our own copy with individual product numbers. The File sits on my computer, as i am the "administrator" and the others access it using remote open. I am continually tweaking the database to make it more user friendly for our purposes. the problem is that the last set of changes don't appear in other users' remotely opened files. what's going on? is there a way to force update? they are running on windows PC, but when i sign-in it gives me the correct version (and there is only one version) of the file. i don't know where/why they are getting an earlier file.

I am trying to set up a datase with 3 or 4 product shots of each entry and would like these "thumbnails" to open up into larger pictures when I post the database online. My only idea so far is to create records of each shot and have them open up via relationships with the thumbnail set up as a button. Any better ideas than to make multiple records of each product? thanks for any thoughts!!

One of my clients suddenly is having trouble sharing a database. Connecting to the database has become GLACIAL, and then performing any operation takes FOREVER. (They have one host, and five people sharing.) All are using 8 v1, though I tried connecting with 8.5 v1 on my own computer (connected to their LAN) and had same issues. (With nobody else connected.) I also tried installing Server, but still the same performance. I also tried with FM sample files, and experienced a similar slowdown. (Not as dramatic, since these files are smaller.) There is a database that has scripting of some sort involved to grant multiple users access to their record only over the web in a system not running server (I think it runs using FMP tasks 2.0?). Obviously I did not set this system up. The problem is that when a database is open, it cannot be reliably backed up (ie, with Retrospect server). I also have a server running FMP Server 7 (soon to be 8 and then 9). With databases hosted in this fashion, server writes a copy on the fly which allows for reliable backup. There are two solutions I can think of, but don't know which would be easier/better. One…

I made up a runtime version of the database and put it out on a file server. I created a shortcut to the executable file via a mapped network drive from one of the clients. First off Sorry for the long post but I want to give detail. I am looking at creating a database that I can distribute to several locations that have 2-4 computers at some locations that will all be used at the same time, and 1 computer at each location. Where we have 2-4 I would like them to have access to the same data, but the 1 computer locations can be seperate. I can't do web based due to secruity issues. What do I need to have at each location? Do I need Server at the 2-4 computer locations? Can I use developer utilities to create a runtime solution for the stand alone stations?
