Hello everyone, I can't figure this one out. I have some nice fonts I installed on my Mac. They are working and available in all the other programs on my Mac. However, when I go to my FMPA12, they don't show up. I've tried deleting font caches, restarting the machine, installing fonts on both the user side and system side. No luck. I can't copy and paste from another that has access to the font, it just shows up in a generic font. Any ideas? It's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any thoughts... Stephen

I am creating BOM's (Build of Materials) for various marketing materials kits. Depending on the region, some kit builds will have 30 individual sku's some will have 10. Is it possible to create a field with 30 repetitions, but only display populated repetitions?

This seems like something that should be possible, but every time I try it, it does not work. I have a script that goes to each layout in my database. When doing so, it flashes and looks really ugly, so I want to 'hide' this window in the background while the script works on it, and create a new window with a "working" layout that remains in the foreground. Unfortunately, whenever I make a new worker window and "Select" it to bring it to the foreground, the script starts executing on the worker window. I have the following tables that manage the routes that Train Drivers have the competence to drive trains over: Train Drivers ->Competent Route Sections<-Route Sections Managing data this way is fine but do you get a much better overview if this data can be seen geographically on a map. The route gaps can be seen easily where it would be logical for a Train Driver to learn next etc. We do have geographical maps to show this but they are currently managed in word documents, changing a line on a route map from default black to red when a Train Driver is competent on that route. Works ok, but there's the possibility of sync issues using two different systems. …

We want to summarise data from all projects by a particular client by date range. I'm quite happy with the way I've managed to set that up. What I'm having trouble with is adding a list of the projects as one piece of text. I can set up a script that finds all the relevant projects and exports the Project Name(s). And I think with a bit of messing about I could figure out how to import that to as one piece of text. (I can do it manually so I must be able to automate it!) I'm pretty sure though, that there's a simpler way. I've played around with Merge Variables but I really don't think I'm getting it. Any tips?

I am using FM 12.04 Advanced  I have a membership application.  Members -->> Dues  The LO is based on Dues     The problem is I can not get a Summary Count for Members::MemDuesStatus (Current or Late). I have placed the summary field in Dues. Didn't work. I placed the Summary field in Members. Didn't work.  The perplexing thing is that the Blue fonted Summary Totals work?  Is there something different about Count?  Â

I'm using a layout for a wide screen that extends past the page setup canvas area. How do you get objects to extend past this if the page size limits this?

Not sure if this is the proper section for this problem or not, but I am having a problem when in layout mode. Specifically, whenever I am in the layout mode and have any element selected, if I try to scroll the display it goes nuts (see attached screen shots). The only way to get out of this is to go back into browse mode, then return to layout mode and try again. Has anyone else run into this? before.tiff after.tiff

Hi All I am using FM 12 Pro Advanced, I am relatively new to this whole scene. I have several layouts which i want to print PDF's from. This is all ok i know how to do this but My layouts contain fields that i am resizing "sliding up based on content" The problem is i end up with spare blank pages at the end of the PDF when a user does not used the maximum field space and the thus the fields slide up. See attached PDF showing a part of my database output which documents the case narratives for a patient in my adverse events register. Is there a way to hide dropdown arrows and radio button outlines when using a Filemaker Theme (River). I was able to use conditional formatting to hide everything else.

I d like to have a few customizations to my layouts based on the account (which is in another table employee data) using them. Namely I 'd like each employee to have their own landing page with their data, and the layouts to sort which projects to show based on said account/employee. Shouldn't be too hard I guess, but I am clueless as to how to go about with it.

I am using FM 12 04 Advanced.  Here is the report: It is a sub summary report that breaks on "Current" and on "Late"   Here is the layout:  The weird part is that there are 66 (NOT 73) distinct CURRENT Records. I know. I printed the report and counted them.... 66. Here is another weird thing, I put YELLOW {{RecordNumber}} fields on each record and noticed that it skips values ? In fact, it skips 7 'records' which means that the reported total for Current 73-7=66 the correct number.   Notice it skips # 34.... huh?   BUT, if this isn't weird enough, the "Late" summary works as expected.  I am lost in the dark. Got any l…

I use File Maker since 3 months ago, but Im novice in many things of FM I've heard some about how to deal with "Flashing Window", but I don't know what is a Flashing Window. Just to learn.

I have three tabs on a layout with a container field on each tab that has a linked MS word document within it. I'm trying to create a simple script that will open the linked MS word document on the active tab. Each tab has an object name assigned through the inspector. I thought an If [] statement using the Get (activelayoutobjectname) might work followed by Go to field with (select/perform) checked but it doesn't. I'm sure it should be something quite simple.

I found a freebie at NightWind which demonstrates the technique (highlighting the current record in List View), but some of it escapes me. Here's what I did glean from Nightwind's demo: In my case I want the background of the current record to be a color, so I'll use that example. Is there a way to remove those black and white lines in list view ? Or at least to change their colors ? Note that I don't really want to display my data in list view, I'm forced to do so because the header does not stay on top in form view (which is pretty annoying if your header serves as a navigation bar). If someone has a way to have a header that is always visible no matter how far the user has scrolled that would be great. Thanks

Hi maybe not exactly the correct place. Trying to update an old database into FMP12..! and I found the same problem, I have several custom dialogs, in my scripts, and still difficulty to have them take a size proportional to the text they hold..!! After I had a several sentences message opened, the next one is of five words and I have to click the resize button (top left) to shrink the message. Is there any trick to have the custom dialog grab a size in accordance with what it contains..?? If not (I could'nt find any yet) someone should talk to FMP folks to have that in an upgrade..!! TIA

Each record holds info on various results of the session (Games won, Games lost, Points one, points lost, etc.) and various calculations (% games won, average net points won or lost per game, etc.). For quite a while now, I've been trying to perfect a good List View sorting framework that would take a minimum of fields and scripts and be fairly portable. I recently saw one that Ocean West posted that hit almost all the needs. I had been using a script very similar to his, but Stephen took it one step further by abstracting the column header names. OK... I'm a relative beginner to this. Is there an easy way to implement sorting by clicking on the column header in a list view? I've done some searches and tried to implement this (http://www.filemakerhacks.com/?p=2341) but I'm getting errors (Some fields in the sort order are invalid or cannot be sorted. You must remove these fields from the sort order before performing a sort.) Is there a fairly straight forward way to implement this functionality?

This has probably already been answered, so I apologize, but I could not find it. I am trying to improve an inherited database. We have a layout that, with all elements that MAY need to be included on the printout extends to more than one page. However, 99% of the time, the entire printout easily fits on a single page (with sliding/reducing size of part). However, I continue to get the second page, including Header and Footer (although for testing purposes, I tried deleting those and it didn't make a difference - still got the second page. Hi, I have need to display a popup to ask a user for some information (an email address in this case), but by displaying a field, any other user that uses this screen will either have their own entry overwritten or cleared. What techniques would 'you' use to effectively enter data directly into a variable, OR, have some set of fields that are available to that user alone (like a sandbox). Any ideas would be appreciated. I have a custom label layout with a 1â�� header. Each label is 4â�� wide and 7â�� long, in Portrait format, on 22â�� X 17â�� paper. (Double-size business cards).  I am printing 5 labels across in 2 rows, 10 labels per page.  The layout's Header lets me put a Printerâ��s Crop vertical line at precisely 4â�� and at precisely 8â�� at the top. So it places the crop mark for the first and second columns only.  My layout doesnâ��t let me â��seeâ�� the remaining 3 columns to put in the Crop Marks. I think I've found a bug related to setting fields in related records using scripts. If, in an open record (i.e. Get ( RecordOpenState ) = 1 or 2), an attempt is made to set a field from a related table in a portal by a script set to run with full access privileges when the logged in user is NOT assigned the [Full Access] privilege set, the changes are not shown in the field until the record is committed. Hi guys, I was hoping I might get some assistance for a feature I want to include on one of my layouts. I have a drop down menu which triggers many different scripts when the users elects one of the options. This has always worked well, but on a new layout I'm creating I don't have the real estate I need to add the entire field when this is in list view. What I'd like to do is have a button which will display the drop down menu when it is pressed. My best guess would be to put the actual field behind other layout items, and then use the button to trigger the arrow on the drop down list to display the options. I have a flat database that runs a 'case' calculation in two "Product total" fields, to result in a count of products (that exist in other multiple fields). ie. each "Product total" field is for a specific product (I'm only interested in two products). There are unique customer numbers, of which some have multiple counts for either or both of the products (in the two calculated fields) and some, nothing. I am trying to 'compress' 10000 records to result in one record per unique number with a total for each of those two "Product total" fields next to it ... is this even possible? I have some layouts where I've implemented an icon for toggling a boolean field. My implementation is to place on the layout an unstored calc field, called z_button_publish, with calculation Case ( Reagent::status = 1 ; Graphics::%CHECK_24 ; Reagent::status = 0 ; "" ) Where Reagent::status references the boolean, and Graphics::%CHECK_24 is a global container with a checkmark graphic. Hi, I am trying to change the layout that loads when I first enter my database. This seems like it would be rather simple but I've been trying to figure it out for a while without any luck. I changed it under File-> File Options and that works for a second but then the original layout comes back immediately without any user interaction. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A number of our users increase magnification of layouts. This sometimes means that to view elements at the right hand edge of the layout they have to scroll across. Since we upgraded to FMP12, when they click in a field that they have scrolled across to reach the window immediately scrolls back to the left, so that they have to scroll back to the right to continue entering info in the field. Obviously this is frustrating and time consuming. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Is there a InUse_Record like command? I have a CMR.. and multi agents are working the file... As I understand it correctly, if you do conditional formatting, the formula equals either 1 or 0. That is, yes or no. I have a tab I want to hide by changing the fill color to the background of the project. I want to hide it if the person logged in belongs to the Auditor group. I can get the Privilege set with the Get ( AccountPrivilegeSetName ) = "Auditors" But I'm not sure how to pass a yes or no to the formula. IsValid doesnt seem to work I also tried If Get ( AccountPrivilegeSetName ) = "Auditors" Value=1 but that just produces errors. I have several scripts that open certain database tables in a new window for users. I name these windows "$TableName" & ":" & "$RecordName" for usability. Unfortunately, I have another script that relies on the fact that each window has a unique name, but this is obviously not the case. Is there any way I can get a unique ID or something for the window, rather than referring to it by its name? I know there is a Get (WindowName), but is there something equivalent to what a Get(WindowID) function would do? Is there a way I can use Get (UUID) here? Let me know if more information is required. Hi, I've been trying to understand / research why my "Formatting Bar" continues to check itself even after I've unchecked it!. Upon start up within my startup script where I've chosen to "Hide" tool bar. Yet, no matter what, the "Formatting Bar" continues to recheck itself upon relaunching of applications, huh ?? Now I know the "Formatting Bar" and the "Status Bar" are two different things ... but I just don't understand why the "Formatting Bar" continue to re-check itself upon start up!! I have created a database containing 2 tables, 1 being 'customers' the other being 'work info'. The relationship is set too one to many. I have a layout displaying the customers info and have set it up so when I click on a customer it opens a new layout showing the work information related to that customer. Ive placed two buttons at the bottom of the 'work information' layout for up and down but I can't work out how to script these to step up and down the found record set being displayed. Can I change the Custom menu for all layouts at one time??

I am new to Macs and I want to know if there is a way to correct the overlapping of text. In Windows, when the end of a field label, text box, etc. was reached, the text would wrap to the next line like a normal document does. Since I started using a Mac I am getting overlapping instead of wrapping. Is this a Mac issue or a FM issue? Is there any way to fix it? Overlap.tiff

Hi Everybody... I recently updated a Filemaker project management solution that's been in use for 5 years. I upgraded it to Filemaker version 12 from 11, and created a brand new graphic user interface for it; totally overhauled the look and feel. The new GUI uses a good amount of imported 72 dpi Adobe Illustrator objects, and the disparity between the size of the old database vs. the size of the new version has raised questions in my mind about the prospective performance of the new version. I am looking for a rich text format field much like Access supports. Does Filemaker have such a thing? Is there a plug-in somewhere?

Numbers reported in sub-summaries in reports are automatically rounded. It would save me an enormous amount of time and effort if there were merely some way to convert those numbers to integers. Since they are showing up in reports, though, it seems to be impossible to perform any calculations on them, and for other reasons it is difficult to convert to an integer elsewhere. Alternately, if it is possible to capture a number displayed in a sub-summary into another field for manipulation that might work too, but again because this is in a report every time I try to capture the number, I end up capturing a number representing the entire found record set, not just t…

I'm modifying a FileMaker 11 template (time billing) and in copying or moving items, they drift on the screen as the layout is enlarged by stretching its borders. I don't know much about this technique, so I can't seem to fix it. I've tried undoing the anchors in the layout palette. Any pointers as to how to fix it?

I have a shipping solution that includes these 2 layouts: -First, a layout for Printing packing slips which is 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" outputting on a dot matrix printer. - Second, a layout for printing individual labels that prints on a thermal printer in a 4" X 6" format. This is my problem: I want to create a PDF of each packing slip which is 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" but wnenever I go to make the PDF, the layout defaults to the 4" X 6" format instead of the 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" layout. I have designed a new layout in my DB and want to replace the old one with the new one. The problem I'm having is that every time I try to rename the old layout, all the scripts that referenece the old layout, change to the (old layout) new name. And then when I rename the new layout to the old name, the scripts still reference the old layout with new name. Hello! I've put a vertical scrollbar on a text field that sometimes has lots of text (extending beyond the visible range of the text field), sometimes very little. Currently the user can't tell by the appearance of the slider whether there's more text available or if they are seeing all there is. The slider fills the full height of the scrollbar regardless of how much text there is. The danger is that the user will miss the 'hidden' notes. The slider does change appearance (as in, gets smaller if there is lots of text available) if the user clicks into the field, but it would be much better if it could show this all the time. I am using ExecuteSQL() to gather values and display them as merge variable on buttons. If we attach a button to them, they re-evaluate just by hovering over them (please see attached file). This is new file created for this purpose and I have replicated it in other files as well. The top right grey buttons switch to the correct value as you make changes to the checkbox but then when you hover, the merge variables revert to the prior value. I've solved it (potentially) by using a separate transparent button over them. If the button is separate, the value will not revert. It is only when the button itself has a script attached and you hover on it that the value re…

I love Filemaker and have been using it for years in our Church Boyscout Group called Royal Rangers. You all have helped me from time to time to figure stuff out. I am a phoneman for at&t and by no means a programer. My databases are basic and not fancy.  I have been printing out 400 certificates for the boys for their merit work. It also fills out the order forms and prints off the lists for our Awards Ceremonies.   Last week a guy spent 6 hours using power point to display 200 merits for about 60 boys. It was a hit. I thought well I have the data. I just need to figure out how to put mulitiple merits accross the screen.  Certificates are ea…

The label templates in FMP 8.5 does not include 5366. Called Avery for alternate # that would work for 5366 all alternates also not available in FMP. Will I have to create a layout from scratch and make my own label/layout? I started by formatting the page size, margins etc. However when I started place the merge fields on the layout I realized that when in preview the merge fields will simply repeat the one record. Am I going in the wrong direction? What and how to do this?

I have a layout that has header, subsummary, and footer. It displays fine in browse mode, but I can't scroll the window to the record I want. I can use the scroll window page down, but that doesn't give me control to stop exactly where I want. The user sees the list of subsummaries, then clicks one. That takes the user to a report. Then from the report, they can go back to the list and I want the window to be scrolled to the same place as when they left it. Go to record by calculation and scroll window to selection don't work in this layout. Is there any other way?

Hi All, Is there a way in FileMaker Pro to take a screen capture of the current application UI Layout? The "Print[]" or "Save as PDF[]" script steps will print only the portions of the layout that comes within the print margin. The rest part of the layout will not get printed. I tried with the Screen Capture functionality of "360wroks ScriptMaster plug-in", it works well it takes a screen shot of the entire desktop. But here I want only to capture the current FileMaker Layout window not the desktop backgrounds for example the system task bar, other objects visible at the background of FM application window. Filemaker really has some deficiencies that annoy the cr** out of me. Is this possible, either literally or just 'effectively' (or creatively, using non-layout techniques (I don't know), etc)? I want to have a list layout where one of the fields can sometimes contain a lot of text, or sometimes very little. I really wish the height of this field object would vary to accommodate the amount of text in the field for each record without really going over (or at least have reasonable proportionality - if I have to formulate a way to do it pretty closely based on character count, so be it). In FM 11 and earlier, you could type @@ to display a record number. This doesn't work in FM 12. Is there a work around?

Today I had a strange thing happen. I was entering data in a portal on a layout. I had used this layout for years through many versions (currently FMPA v12.03 Mac OS X 10.7.5). I did some work in another window then returned to the layout in question. Suddenly the portal only showed one row and there was no way to enter data. I checked the relationships and made sure Allow Creation etc. was enabled. All perfect. Finally I retrieved a backup copy of the entire solution to the desktop. In the backup all was well, but everything else was identical. Relationships etc were the same. I closed the backup and returned to the active file, created a new layout and copied all object…

I am using FM Pro 12, OSX 10.8.3 I have used several layouts since FM Pro 5 (I think). I upgraded to 7, 9, and now v 12. On one layout I just noticed that a field is now appearing in scientific format, not just as a number. It used to appear ok. Since it exists on other layouts ok I tried to see what the difference was in the inspector, and I could not see any difference. I copied the field from another layout where it was ok but when viewed on this layout, it too, appeared in scientific form. How can I get it back to the way it was?

I have a log book, which totals a number of hours in a column. I have set up a report which prints 25 results per page. I would like to have a summary at the bottom of each page of only the totals of that page and all the previous pages. Kind of like a running total. I've tried a few methods but can only seem to get a summary of the entire set of records (all 3000). In other words, on page 1, it should total just page 1, on page 2 it should be a total of both page 1 and 2. Can this be done without having to manually create a summary field for each block of 25 records? Thanks skekum

I have created a layout form which uses number and calculation fields. I'd like to convert it to a webform for non-filemaker users. I'd prefer not to just recreate the form in excel as I'd like to preserve the graphics and appearance that I can produce in FM. I use v 11 advanced. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have a form document using merge fields that includes the language "SCPA 1708.2(a)" as part of the boilerplate There is no space between the 2 and the (a), yet sometimes the merge fields cause SCPA 1708.2(a) to go all the way to the right margin. When that happens, I get SCPA 1708.2 at the end of the line, and the (a) at the beginning of the next line. They really need to be together since it is a section of law from the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act. Is there a way to force text to be kept together, no matter what? Thanks, Kevin

I have customized one of the "starter solution" layouts better suit my needs. I used one of the asset starter themes. I used the assests:Desktop:asset details to customize. My question is this, Is there a way, now that i have the asset details form how i want it, to apply this to all the other functions. I am converting an FM10 solution to FM12. I have a number of portals which contain a 0-line, no-fill rectangle object which is formatted as a button to perform a script. These objects are darned hard to grab to change the button attribute. The plan is to give them names so that I can use those object names as script parameters. What I have done is to pull the fields out of the portal and then try to lasso the button object. This is a hit or miss technique that takes a long time and is very frustrating, not to mention having to put the portals back together after I finally do get the change made. Does anyone have any tips/techniques/tricks to select those objects…

hi, is there a quick way to align text fields and its label by the text baseline? although sometimes aligning top/bottom/center seems to work, sometimes it does not. the baseline seems to be the proper criterion for alignment. thanks, stefan

My solution was designed when a good monitor had a 1024x768 display with a zoom level of 100%. Newer monitors have increased resolution, e.g., 1600x900. The result is that the solution occupies a smaller proportion of the display area and the text appears very small. My users want to 'maximize'. Of course, maximizing just fills the rest of the screen with the background color for the layout and doesn't increase fonts etc. The only way (I think) to do what they want is to 'zoom'. However the next available zoom level is 150%. There is no way to scale up the window size on a 1600x900 screen (I don't think) so that the display will show at 150% without scroll bars. Redes…

I added a scrollbar to a text field. Now, the cursor is always positioned at the end of the field when entering in Browse mode. Even if I put the cursor at the top, then change records, when I go back to the previous record, the cursor is back at the bottom again. No matter where I leave the cursor upon exiting, it is always at the end when I return. This a headache for records where the text value is many paragraphs long. I have scroll up to the top every time I enter the field. Can't find any format settings that set cursor position. I'm not well versed in scripting, but I suspect this issue may require some kind of event-triggered script. If that's the only fix, ca…

I'm not sure if this is even possible. If you have an element on a layout (text box, portal) that you've set up in a window with scrolling, FM 11 by default places the scroll slider at the very top. Upon calling this layout, what if you wanted the scroll slider to auto-appear at the bottom of the scrolled element instead? Is that a script step or script triggered event? Hoib

I'm not sure which section to post this question in so hopefully this isn't too far off. A client came to me with a question I never considered and don't know how to answer. They are using Filemaker 11. If you have full access privilages in a database you can right click in a field and have the option for sorting by that field either ascending, descending, or by a value list. However, other privilege sets don't seem to have this option and they want them to have that option but not have full access. Hi all - I can't seem to figure out a good option for this aside from a portal. I'm building an order fulfillment database for our outside sales team that they will use to order sample products, marketing material, etc. Ideally, I picture something like a list view that lists all of the products (~40-50) by category, and then a box for the quantity. They would scroll through the list, add their quantities, and hit "enter" to trigger a script. But how would I do this with multiple users accessing the same records? Would I duplicate all the product records and tag them to the user, so each user has their own product list, then filter the records according to …

For some reason the size of the background changes when I go into layout mode. No matter what I try, I cannot drag it back to regular size. I have attached a screenshot of the problem in layout mode. I can't seem to get the background back to regular size. When I switch out of layout mode, it expands and looks fine. Any easy answer to this problem? Thanks! Mike

I work for a law firm and we hold Wills, Powers of Attorney etc for our clients. I am creating a database to record what we hold that will allow our staff to create a receipt for clients to sign when they need to take the documents away from our office. Some clients have several documents, but only wish to take away one or more of them. I need the user to be able to select the documents based on the Testator's name and then print the receipt for the selection. Additionally, in my layout to view the documents held, the pdfs are viewing in landscape, when I need them to be viewed as portrait. The pdfs are always legal sized paper (8.5 x 14). Hello... I have build a layout with 15 field dynamically, both titles and the data field. However.. sometime these 15 fields are not always used.. the remainder fields are blank Still in my layout Tabbing through... ALL these field still exist I can hide them no problem using a Condition, if a certain field is empty But when data entering.. its still there.. I can tab down these blanks.. Is there any way to disable the field from a GET? TIA Rod

We use an appraisal form which is on paper. People fill in their name and answer a few questions. We can scan them all in in bulk. I want to somehow get the scans into filemaker so people can type them up. Ideally FM would split the questions into different container fields and then data entry workers would each get a question at a time to type up. This way the work can be distributed accross workers. Any ideas?

I have a layout that includes a header part. I realised that I want that header part to be a Title Header part because I only want it to appear once - on the first page. Whenever I change the part from a regular header part to a title header part, the entire title header disappears in browse mode. It reappears in Preview mode and prints correctly and pdf's correctly, but when in browse mode, the entire part is not visible, the page starts at the body. If I change it back to a regular Header part, it behaves as expected, and heads each page in the print, which is not what I want. Am I doing something wrong? I am running 12 v 3 advanced in Windows 7  The situation is pretthy simple.  I am on a layout. But pressing a button, the user goes into PREVIEW. This works.  However, in Windows the printer icon at the top of the formatting bar / tool bar is grayed out and not functional.  In OSX it works as expected.  Same script   Ideas are appreciated.  Thanks    Â

I have a standard government form that I would like to auto-populate that has boxes for each letter as many have seen. The original PDF is not an active form, nor do I want to mess around with Acrobat. Even if I did I think I would run into the same issue of putting one character in each box. So, I have converted the PDF to a JPG cleaned it up / resized it and have it on a layout that I want to populate with FM data. Obviously, I can't just drop the fields on the layout because the text doesn't line up with the boxes. my system is being designed on a mac, and it's looking pretty good - clean, user friendly windows, and it looks like an independent application as the filemaker interface is transparent. however, it is going to be used cross-platform. when the application is opened in windows, the filemaker background is grey and unattractive, and the interface windows have grayed out scrollbars on the right and bottom of each of each frame. any way to clean this up on windows? i need to leave the database inside of the filemaker application as i will be doing layout updates and changes as the system grows. if only our users were all using macs...

Hi All, I have a field on my layout that is linked to another table through an ID field. I want the user to be able to select the field using a drop down value list. So my first field is "COMPANY ID" which is a serial number, and my display data (second field) is "Company Name", which is obviously text. The display on the drop down looks like this: So far so good. The lousy part, is after they have selected the company they want, the display in the edit box defaults back to the id number (like 342). We have number fields which are dollars and I have formatted them with two decimal points. Sometimes people put 3 decimal points and that is allowed - even more if they wished. But what they don't want to happen is that when they click into the field, a 3.00 turns into a 3. They think it is very distracting and weird. I tried formatting the number using inspector but that just handles the display. So what I want is to default with .00 I think, as actual data. Okay, version 12 will be on ipad and iphone also and I have separated model. I have 15 icons I use for various buttons. Is it best to: store them in container so server has to pass them down to people (easier for changing icons later but they probably won't change). paste them onto each layout as a layout object so they do not have to be downloaded but are part of the layout (will take more work if we decide to change one). Use a file on each station to hold these icons and maybe other stuff which doesn't change. I have read enough to really confuse myself but nothing that specifically says the best way. i am creating my own dialogue boxes for my database. i want the new windows to position in the center of the original layout on screen. the 'distance from top' and 'distance from left' options are great, but they reposition based on the edge of the monitor rather that the active filemaker file. i'm assuming a calculation in these fields will solve this... how would i go about this?
