Dear Programmers, I want to display files for each record separately on the layout which are related to them. I have added a container, browse button to upload and a web viewer on the layout. Browse button will browse for file and put it into container field then will export the contents to a folder which is associated with that record number. Maybe someone can help me I just cant seem to get it right, I set up a database of volunteers witch I can assign a task using a portal and a dwindling value list, I got that part to work. But then I found out that the dwindling part only works on one record so I changed a couple of things, 1. I set up a self join relationship to keep a list of all volunteer keys used in the join table across all records. 2. I changed the calculation use that self join relationship. Hello Odd situation: when I try to change the indent value (either First, Left or Right) of a text field, using Inspector, the value reverts to what it was before the change. I simply cannot make the change stick, Anyone every come across this before? I can get round the problem by using Format Painter, but it's baffling me! I'm using FPro 11, on OSX 10.7.2, with files hosted online, if that makes any difference. Philip

Hello, My Mac has a huge 27" display. When I made my database, I made use of all the screen real estate I had and I've got scripts which open and size all the files which makeup my database (about 8 or 9 files pop open when I open the "main" file) In any case I've now got a few users sharing the database with me but some are using Laptops which have small screens. As a result, some windows open off the display area of the laptop! Very odd. Is there any way to set the coordinates differently depending on which screen the user happens to be using when opening the file? Bonus 2nd question... I'm sure I read some useful tips about this someplace but can't find where. I often find myself in situations where I want to use a Marge Field as part of a field label, or worse yet a Button, but the space required in Layout mode to include the <<FieldName_TooLengthy>> in the text string means that the object extends too far and gets in the way of other objects. I get it that usually you solve the problem by making the text box taller, however awkward it looks in Layout mode . . . but aren't there some other clever approaches / tips on this? I started a fairly small database a few months ago. When I entered data in the person's name field a pop up list appeared in the next field " address field". As an example, I have created a very simple FMP11 file with two entities, 'clients" and "commandes". "commandes" has two fields, _kp and "numéro de commande" which is a number auto enter serial number. There is an OT "clients_COMMANDES" linked to the entity "clients". Link to "clients_COMMANDES" allows record creation from "clients" entity. I am not sure of best way to explain this, and i am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the concept of boolean values, but here goes... I have an 'orders' databse which contains 'order line items'. suppliers often deliver only part of an order. I want to conditionally format a parent record (order) for which delivery is incomplete. So far my thinking is as follows: in the line items have created a boolean value for 'delivered'. I want a summary field to total the number of items on the order that have been delivered and a summary field to count the order items. So if items delivered - items counted = <0, then the order (parent record) is still PENDING. …

Hi all, I have an issue with getting a portal to display all the child records. As you can see in the ERD attached, there is a measurement table, that is a child of the test date table and both the measurement and the test date table are children of the people table. A person can have multiple objects, which will be measured at different test dates. I am creating a report for each person that is on the measurement table using the object as subsummary. I am sending a calculated URL to a Web Viewer. The web service (MailChimp) I am sending to returns a JSON file. This displays fine on a Mac in the Web Viewer and I am able to parse the content out and back into FileMaker, completing the loop. On Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8 beta) I get a dialog box popup when the JSON file comes back that says "Do you want to Save this file or find a program online to open it?" Type: Unknown File Type. I want to display a javascript wysiwyg editor in a web viewer to allow users to design html emails. TinyMCE was the most promising, but the "Insert/Edit Link" option does not work. It works fine in Safari, which is what I had understood that the web viewer was using... so that's odd. I also tried CKEditor (formerly FCKEditor), but nothing works (all actions are performed on the top of the document, regardless of where the cursor/selection is). Again, it works fine in Safari. Hope I'm in the right part of the forum. Here's what I need to do. You tab to Field 1 and enter the data. Based on Field 1 (if such and such) you either go to Field 2 for entry or Field 3. If you go to Field 2, based on the data in Field 1 you may either be sent to Field 3 where the data from Field 2 is copied but you are alklowed to change it, or based on that data in Filed 1 you may skip Field 3 and move on to Field 4. Hi all, Using FM 11.0v4 on multiple machines (iMac OS 10.5.8) and everything works well. Upgraded a computer to a new iMac that came with 10.7. Our layouts include a logo- graphic file- that now does not show up randomly on that computer. Previewing the layout shows the logo once and then not the next time. It never prints the logo. All other information (fields, borders, boxes etc) show with no issue. I understand from a Google search, this is an issue with FM/ 10.7 handling .EPS files. I believe this one is a .tiff file (might have that wrong). One suggestion was to re-save the artwork in illustrator with a PICT preview. I don't know how to do …

I have a field thats connected to a value list, with 50 state abbreviations. On a mac, I can type "W" and the list will jump down to the W states. On a pc however, the exact same layout will not jump when I type a letter. Any ideas? Thanks Matt

I really like the ability of popups to restrict user input to a provided list. However, I find I am forced to use a drop-down if I want to use a script to update the drop-down/popup contents. Question: Is there a way to use a script to write directly to a field based on a popup? (What is happening is that I can add / delete records from the table that the popup is based on and although the popup reflects the change, a calculated field that shows the 'order number' of the contents in the popup DOES NOT get updated unless I use a Drop-Down.) I have DB with many layouts and all of them are well organized in folders. I have made a navigation set of buttons so I can navigate through the main ones but I have some “auxiliary” layouts that is impossible to incorporate to the navigation set, it would be too big and made no sense. My idea is to add a new navigation button named “Aux” and I would like to make a popup that will show me the list of the Auxiliary layouts so I can choose any of them to go to it. Is that possible? My portal is based on a join table. I want my portal records to be sorted by the Last_Name field in a related table. Is there some trick to doing this? It seems like it should be do. I have 3 tables: Members globals (Holds the 'yes/no' fields shown below) MembershipType (holds PKID and MbrType (Type of Membership) The Members::Type field is a drop-down based on the MemberShipType table. I have a form which uses a drop down list to store an ID and an edit box overlay to show the related value chosen. (still baffled that FM hasn't just made that a native option) The problem I am noticing is that the Edit box only refreshes when one clicks on a blank area on the form. I have drop down lists in other forms that refresh their edit boxes as soon as a value is selected. The difference being that the ones that refresh immediately, the drop down list field is from the table the form is based on, but if the drop down list field is based on a related table it doesn't refresh immediately. I have no idea where to put this topic, so I stuck it here. Any input is appreciated as I am stumped. The Issue: We have a few workstations where the cursor flickers between the arrow cursor and the text cursor. 2 things: It does not happen 100% of the time, and it only happens on a few workstations. We are running FM Server 11 to about 15 workstations. Most workstations are Mac Minis. The computers that display this behavior are newer (late 2011) Mac Minis. I refuse to believe this is a corrupted system issue, but it's very possible I am wrong. Help?

In the above Setup layout, on the left column is a hard coded list of membership 'types' (Yearly, Honorary...etc) . These Memberhship 'types' are accessed in the main program via a dropdown listing. Each member has a membership 'type'. The dropdown choice is used to calculate what the membership dues are for that membership 'type'. This works well. However, I would like to replace the 'hard coded' dropdown list of Membership 'types' (Yearly, Honorary...etc) with global fields or $$variables. Here's what I need to do. I have 3 fileds - Field1, Field2, Field3. Field 1 should be filled in first. Field 2 then gets filled in. Field3 depends on the following. Is it possible to add new values to existing zoom levels? (FM Pro Advance 11) 50% - 75% - 100% are just fine but... On a 24 inch monitor for example, most of my layouts appear a bit to small. Scrolling to the next zoom value makes them too big so the user spends time scrolling in and out. Is it possible to add more zoom percentages like 66% 83% 112% ? One program that reacts nicely to zoom scroll is Internet Explorer. It would be fine to have a way to do it in Filemaker.

I have IWP up and running. Pages look good on Mac and Windows and most work without a problem but I have some that if I even put a cursor in a field, IWP freezes. It matters not what browser or system I am on. One weird part of the url when I get this is "check status" Locally, the db runs without error but not in two of the pages which contain a portal and links/lookups to other tables. Any help on this would be terrific. TIA Bob Moran FMP 11 Advanced on Snow Leopard and Win 7. Ports 591 and 8080 were used with identical results. The pages will come back after several minutes but that, of course, is not acceptable. :)

Trying to draw expansion/reduction left/down black triangles that will work in native filemaker solutions for Mac and Windows. I don't think there is a character/font that works in both with these. Don't want to use a graphic, as often background shade does seem to match between platforms (good on one, mismatched on another), and images are slower over the Server wire. So my next solution was to do it using a small Web Viewer using a html/data approach, and the HTML character code. I have three portals on one layout. The top layout contains a list of tasks that a user has received. The middle portal contains detailed information on ALL tasks a user has received or sent. The bottom portal contains a list of tasks that a user has sent. The top and bottom portals contain just a fraction of the task information, like name date and priority. I have two data bases both are set to have black the standard color of any text, in one the text in selected cells, can be colored, black to red act, in that data base I can highlight the cell and change the color of any of the text and it remains that color when I click out of that cell In the second data base if I highlight a cell and change the color when I leave the cell the color changes back to black when I go back to the cell the color changes back to the chosen color. I have a field called sCount which is a summary of the 'name' field. I would like to sort by sCount but I don't believe that I can because it is a summary field and it is greyed out in the sort dialogue box. I would like to sort my report by sCount descending because I would like to show the 'Name' with the most records first and so on in order to identify training priorities. Is there a way to do this? PS I did find a work round. I created a loop script that would enter sCount for every record of my found set into a number field. I then sorted using this number field and used as sub-summary on my report. Is there a cleaner way though?

This is a 'quickie'. My application has a tabbed object. Each tab has a portal. One Tab [Membership] has another tabbed interface. One 'tab' on that interface is 'DDESNDP'. On DDESNDP is a portal. Everything works well. However, to check user validity on startup a script is run which is supposed to check the TOP DDESNDP portal row field and then evaluates it. I'm using a value list from one table to manually enter the foreign key in another table. Using first field and show data from second field etc. The value list currently has 1685 entries which obviously is the number of records in the table that it derives from. This number of records could grow significantly over time. Therefore is there a maximum number of entries that a value list can take? If so, what are the alternatives?

I'm not sure how to do it, as far as writing the formula, but here is what I am trying to do: I have a little table on my database that has a list of 6 vendors, each with a start and stop date. I want them all to be color filled grey, unless I enter something in the field Vendor One, then i want the start date field and stop date field to be white. I can do the conditionally formatting that says "if not empty" then make it white, but I need something in a forumla that says basically "if Vendor One's field is NOT empty, then make the Vendor One Start Date white and the Vendor One Stop Date white". Is there a way to script a list view window to "resize to fit" properly? Resize to display only the found amount of records be it 2 or 22. When you use FMP's resize to fit function on a list view layout it maximizes the window height to very top and bottom of screen. Which looks odd when database is only displaying a couple records. The resize to fit function on a form view layout works in a nice way, list view not so much. Thanks for any tips! :D

My problem is that my database has grown to where I have quite few products in my product list that I order but do not sell because they are used to make the products I sell. I want to be able to flag my products on the product page as either sellable items or not and have just the ones that are flagged show up in the invoice product drop down value list. Hi Attached is a demo containing three tables: KEYWORDS VALUES KEYWORS_VALUES where if you enter a number (in the KEWYWORDS table) into the fields "Keyword_1" or "Keyword_2", a new entry into a portal is created, when you click outside the fields. To delete an entry in the portal you delete the content of "Keyword_1" or "Keyword_2" and click outside. If you add to a fields content, a new portal is created, and you are no longer able to delete the previously entered portal entry. Any other suggestions of how to do this? Hello all, Is it not possible to suppress/disable the FileMaker Pro>Quit FileMaker Pro command in a particular layout? I'm developing a solution that has several modal/popup data entry layouts and it would be bad if the user quit FileMaker before the data entry was properly committed and certain housekeeping tasks could run. Do you suggest I install an OnLayoutExit trigger that could intervene (assuming it would execute before the app quits)? Thanks very much for your suggestions and/or workarounds.

My script is using a Go To Field[ ] with select/perform set to open a field for the user to make a selection from the associated value list. The field highlights properly, awaiting an entry ... but the value list isn't displayed for them. Is there a technique to automatically open the list? I know a pop-up will automatically open ... but a popup is not appropriate for this particular field (with 200 choices) and layout. I need the scroll bar for the user. Thanks for any help.

Hello All, could someone take a look at the attched file and do the following: - enter any number into member field in STEP 1 and click next or go directly to layout "STEP2" - click one of the pull down menus and select a hotel - then click the SELECT button below so the total field on the right sets to the desired amount You can now see the cursor blinking in the field and it doesn't leave the field unless you click somewhere into an empty space on the page. A client has asked me to design a custom CRM system for his company to replace a legacy system. This client has some familiarity with FileMaker Pro. I'm writing a script that is triggered (onobjectvalidation) from a tabbed portal on a layout. Part of the script performs a search on different layout and returns with some variables set from that search. My problem is that when I return to the original layout, I can't seem to consistently get back to the point of origin (field from which the script was triggered). There are some instances in which the user will be triggering the script from the 4th row of a 10 row portal. FM 11 Advanced. Something is creating windows when I switch from layout to layout (in layout mode). Then I get the message "This layout cannot be modified in this Window...". I then have to close the window. The Window menu displays for example, Costs, Costs-2, Costs -3, etc. I'm not running any scripts and none of my script steps create a Window. Of course, the FM Help has practically no info on Windows. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

I have a pop up window that displays a Summary report layout. When I use Adjust Window [Resize to fit] at the end of the script, the window width shrinks to fit but the hight is maximized with a huge amount of blank space. I tried with all the different kinds of footers, including a trailing grand summary and even without a footer. No matter what I can't seem to get it to shrink up to the bottom row of the report. Any ideas?

Hi All, I'm new to these forums so hopefully I'm posting this is the right spot. I'm fairly new to the more complex elements of Filemaker and have just started getting into Portals. I have two databases, one for Projects (quoting, invoicing) and one for inventory. Through portal filtering I've been able to pull up inventory based off of the type of material chosen in the PROJECT that matches the material in INVENTORY. Specifically, if I'm quoting Material "A", the portal only shows the available material "A" from inventory. I have an X button on a portal which only shows on real records. Conditional format on it sets to custom font 500 if IsEmpty(primaryID). It works well to hide the non-record row. But there is also a drop-down calendar with the icon showing. It looks silly. I want to make the icon disappear also but I can't figure how to do it. Text and background don't work to hide it. Any ideas please?

Hello, I know there's a limitation of viewing 255 layouts in the layout dropdown on windows, but I was under the impression there wasn't a limitation on the mac. I currently have 56 layout folders with subfolders in each, but when I click on the Layout dropdown in the GUI, it only shows the first 17. I added a layout and that shows below the 17th folder, but none of the other folders show up. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks, John

Hi, I have some layouts presented in table view (only), and with a header that contains a series of buttons arrayed horizontally across the screen. This is to help colleagues that are more accustomed to Excel style data entry. However when a table contains many fields that go beyond the screen it becomes very inconvenient for the users to scroll back to the far left to use those buttons. Is there a way to make the header scroll sideways? Or more likely, an alternative that allows the user to see the button even if they are far far to the right side of the screen? I'm working on a Layout for Events, with is connected to a Table of Contacts via a Join Table called Invitations. EVENTS < INVITATIONS > CONTACTS So, I have a portal displaying Attendance Records, in which I display some fields from Contacts (Full Name, Organization) and some fields from Invitations (Status, Inviter). Q1) When I attempt to Sort the records in the portal, I can choose only from fields in the Invitations table. Is there no way that I can sort the records in the portal by Organization, or by Name? It seems odd that I can't "get at" these sorting options, since the data is displayed right there in the portal... What am I missing? …

Good day everyone, I am new to FileMaker. I am in the process of making or trying to make a database that will allow me to enter paid invoices for a company. It would have supplier info, product info, dept purchased for info and the ability to key the paid invoice as an invoice. That is the part I'm stuck on. Hey guys, i am new to the forum and start out with my first question. We are now migrating our severs to OSX 10.6 and are still working on the Filemaker 5.5 The problem that we encountered is that on some of our clients Filemaker doesnt display the data in certain layouts e.g. our invoice layout doenst show the data of the fields in the invoice. Challenge: Within a text field the client wants to add some ordered lists with indents (Text Ruler) and some text lines without. He then wants to export all the records as HTML while keeping the text attributes (like indents). I have used a portal on a layout for use as a report and find that when I set the portal to display 25 records then that's all that will be displayed when I enter preview mode. By using the scroll in browse mode I can scroll through all the portals related records even though it only displays 25 on the screen at once. Thought it would work like this in preview mode too. I have found a workround although I'm not convinced it's too clever. I can over estimate (flaw!) the number of records that I think I will need and then set the portal to display that amount and then set the portal print options to reduce enclosing part which works. I have a 3 tables: work orders vehicles parts I have a layout with two portals on it: one with work orders which matches a certain vehicle (Only shows work orders for the vehicle indicated) one with parts for the corresponding work order (or at least thats what I would like) right now I have 3 work orders showing for a certain vehicle). Can someone point me in the right direction as to when I click on a work order in one portal ONLY the parts used for that WO populate the other portal? Sorry if none of this makes sense. Hi there, I would like some assistance with the drop down list I have created. Basically what I want to be able to do is (as an example) is to have the user select a choice from the drop down list, and then this record is then stored and updated in their file. Then return to the layout with that updated choice. This would also - upon the user coming back into the file - restore their preferences / settings that have been stored for them. I run across this situation pretty frequently, and dang it, it's time to do it right! I've got a Table for EVENTS and a table for CONTACTS and a join table in between for INVITATIONS. On an EVENTS layout, I want to have a portal where the user can create INVITATION records by adding Contacts to the portal list. Let's say on the portal row I have Date, Name and Status, so you can enter a dozen names in there and see the list of when you invited each person and whether they've RSVP's or not. I have layout with two elements on it, a rectangle and a container field. When I copy and paste the rectangle into the container field, and then overlay the container on top of the original graphic, there is a notcible color shift between the two of them. I have a field with a drop-down value list. As soon as an item is selected from the list, the cursor moves to the next field. I need the cursor to remain in the field. For example, a value might be "Proceeding for the Appointment of a Guardian for ". I need the user to be able to select the value from the drop-down and then complete the sentence by typing a name.
