As my last 2 topics indicated, I've been struggling with creating a pdf file, inserting it for display on a layout, and then attaching it to a 'send mail' script step. After getting it all to work in my scripts, I created the runtime and sent to my beta site. In the runtime on both MACs and PCs, the 'save pdf' script step does not work - 'Save records as pdf has been canceled'..... What's different in the runtime that causes this failure? What can be done about it, if anything (I hope!). TIA

  3. Hello, Do you happen to know any way to be able to export to pdf in IWP ? I know the exporting to pdf function is not web compatible. But I searched a bit and I found two ways: - FM Robot: just dedicate a machine to run an apple script all the time. The script checks for certain fields in loop until it finds its trigger and then the script exports to pdf and uploads the file to a container; the user then downloads the pdf from the container which is available online. - FM server: I forgot about this method but I remember that that script I spoke about above can be done in the FM server (not sure if advanced version is required) Do you know a…

I have a large and complex database that uses only Helvetica, Ariel, and Lucida Grande, and was developed on a Mac. Has worked great on Macs & PC's for a couple of years. Now that they are getting new Windows 7 machines, all looks great until my script creates a PDF file to email or fax, I get an error that there are some fonts not licensed for embedding! So the PDF is completely void of text! It appears that the PC dosn't have Helvetica or at least not the same one. Where can I find the PC versions that match the Mac versions? Adobe does not have Ariel or Lucida Grande. Is there another solution here, like some way to supress the problem!

This isn't really related to PDFs, but I couldn't see a better place to put it. What's up with the terrible font display in Filemaker? Any font displayed at a size lower than the OS Text Smoothing threshold looks like absolute rubbish. I've had to lower the threshold just for FM. On a PDF of the output, it appears fine, however. This doesn't happen on any other app, and I only use high-quality Linotype fonts.

A Save Records As PDF script step that seems to work well in Snow Leopard does not generate a PDF file in Lion and produces a code 800 error. See the attached file for the error message that flashes across the screen and a simple fp7 file that demonstrates the problem. I am using version 11.0v4, which I was hoping would correct the problem. Should I be doing something else to circumvent the error, or will I need to wait for the next version to regain this functionality? FMSaveAsPDFErrorMessage.png.zip SaveAsPDFProblem.fp7.zip

I want to give users the ability to save a PDF in addition to allowing to print from a Preview layout. Unfortunately, the only time the icon is enabled in the status area is when the Privilege Setting for "Available menu commands" is set to ALL. I definitely do NOT want to give most users access to All Menu Commands. The privilege set does allow printing, and I have coded scripts that do the preview and printing to "Run with All Privileges", but that does not seem to enable the icon either. Does anyone have any other ideas or experience?

What I want is the ability to open a PDF file, preview it, close it, and nothing more. This is mainly for security reasons. Preferably with a web browser, so we don't have to use external software. 31. Outputting a PDF from Filemaker, which then pops up as an attachment in Mail ready to email to send to someone, is a potentially massive productivity benefit for my users. Does anyone know if PDF creation can be done in a runtime? It seems runtimes will not allow PDF creation - but I was curious if anyone has any workarounds? I am currently using a free PDF printer tool where I print to that printer object and it creates it - however if I distribute my FM application via runtime, I would like to not have to have the users go download or install that second piece - I would like to just have a CREATE PDF button like is possible in native FMP. Any ideas?

I have a standard Order table linked via an order id to an order detail table which is in turn linked via product id to a catalog table. I'm running a report using Order Detail to report the total quantity and dollar value of all products sold during a specified calendar period. That's all working fine. But I can't figure out how to report the number of unique orders there were for each product reported. I can't assume there will be one order detail record for each product in an order. One product could appear more than once in an order since these products can be ordered with different options included. So I need to be able to count the number of unique order id values. …

I want to either create a PDF or print a report and have a certain field which would normally be in black text (eg SalesTaxPaid) turn [color:red]RED if it equals $0.00 and I was wondering if this was possible. I have tried to work it out and havent succeeded, possibly due to poor brain power.

When Filemaker is creating PDFs is it able to work out that a leading subsummary can't fit completely onto a page and therefore starts it at the top of the next page instead? thanks Report.zip

Is it possible to somehow break apart a multi-page PDF saved in a container field so each page can be put into separate records/fields? I have a product DB where I would like the user to be able to insert the products multi-page spec sheet as a PDF into a container field. I then need to create a report that prints each page of these spec sheets with some additional information on each page. I wonder if this is possible to do without using a plugin. I am also open to alternatives. All I can think of is to require the user to export each page of the PDF as an image file and then insert each image into a record's container field. Thanks, Greg

Well, I thought I had the answer. It works on the Mac platform, but not on the Windows side. I use 'save pdf' for records browsed to create a file to use as an email attachment. Then I transfer to a screen with a container field for the user to preview. I 'go to field' the container field and 'insert picture'. I get the error message 'this file type could not be displayed as a picture. It will be inserted and displayed as a file'. The file type is 'pdf file' with an adobe acrobat icon associated with it when viewed in the directory. Any thoughts why the same sequence of script steps works in MAC OSX but not VISTA? TIA

For my MAC users, the 'print' command has a built-in pdf output option, so it was easy to implement a 'print to pdf' and attach the output to a 'send mail' script step. But it doesn't appear there is such a built in option in Vista or XP. There appear to be numerous 'free' pdf printers for Windows out there. I would like to recommend one to my Windows users. Is this a case of 'you get what you pay for' or are they any good? Any one in particular? My needs are simple - 'print' to a named pdf file so I can create an email message with the pdf as an attachment. If I can recommend one for them to use, I can build the parameters into a no-dialog print scrip…

Hi All - I couldn't decide if this topic should go under printing or PDF's. I finally decided to start in PDF's. Many printers, when setup as shares, will allow you to simply copy a PDF file directly to the share and the printer will then print it.
