FileMaker Server 12

Discussing issues with Server 12

  1. This question is very similar to this thread, but has one major difference: there is only one file in the subdirectory in question. Overall description: I started getting 685 errors again this weekend: Error 685 server.addr.ess Error occurred while deleting backup folder "volume:path/to/file", some files or folders could not be deleted. (-1) I thought that I was having the same problem as I had had previously: something in the path calculation for the external container field had gotten messed up (e.g. field renamed) and that all the files were being dumped into a parent directory or something. But that was NOT the case. In looking at the directo…

I'm not familiar with FM and need some guidance please. I have a client on FMS 9 on a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 (client). The plan is to move to a new Mac Mini running 10.8.5. For the time being, there are clients still running Leopard (and will continue to do so) and are on FM 8.5. Can I upgrade FMS? Should I upgrade FMS? If I do upgrade FMS, what version of the client should be running on the 10.5.8 Macs? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks. Stephen

I've set up a DB on a Mac mini server for a small company. I would like to set up a low cost redundant server on the same LAN but different building. I was thinking of a second mini server running FMS using the same license but with the serverd stopped and server-helper running. If I can one-way sync the hourly database backups from the main server to the standby server would all this work? Issues: Licensing: Would this be OK if the database server is stopped on the standby server (until main server dies and is needed to be started) but with fmsadmin (server-helper) running? File Corruption: I realise it would be very risky to rely on file syncing a live DB but we c…

  6. One of my tables has a container with pictures in it. The pictures (mostly .jpg not that it matters) all showed up just fine. I moved them to external un-encrypted storage and now the container shows the file but not the picture. If I close the DB on the server and open the DB locally the pictures all show up correctly. Once I mount the DB with the server, all clients see the file in the container but not the picture. Any new records/pictures added show up just fine. I would like to get all the records to show the files as a picture like it was before I moved them. Note: I’ve done this with two other containers in different tables and they maintained their picture status…

  7. Hello there, after having run FM Server 7 for many years on an old, dedicated G5, we're now looking at getting the latest version for our office. The usage is light, normally it's only one or two users accessing one database, with up to 5 maximum. The office is Mac-only, 15 machines accessing files on a Mac Mini Server (mid-2011 model), running Lion Server 10.7.5. It's bad enough making sure that server runs smoothly, so I'm hesitant to use it for FMS. Especially after learning that FMS still relies on Java. I'd rather not have that on a server for security and stability reasons. Hearing that there are problems reinforces that view. What is your exper…

I needed to download a file from FMS 12 to a local machine today. I closed it and started the download. A few moments later I got a message that the console had lost its connection to the server, and then it crashed. When I bring the console back up that file is marked 'exclusive' and I can not do anything with it. I can not change the status. It is stuck. I tried going to the server machine and restarting the console from the command prompt, but that did not change anything. Any ideas are appreciated.

After being forced to upgrade java after the security blocking i find that all the java windows show as blank. I can blindly add the log-in info but the console remain blank. Although I think this is not a filemaker issue (the java control panel is blank too) and probably isnt the right forum, Any thoughts? Lion server 10.7.5 and java 7 update13. I had hoped that regardless of this issue I might be able to login from a remote computer that has also been upgraded but so that fails too.

  10. Hello, I've scheduled a server side script for the first time. The script is in our CRM database, and it essentially just "shows all" and then performs an export to a specific file path. I have set this to run every night at 8pm. So far, I have not been able to get it to run successfully on schedule. When I run the script in the database itself, it exports the data successfully, but when the server runs the scheduled script, it gives scripting error (800), which is that it can't save the file in that location. Am I doing something wrong? I even changed it so that the file exports to a location on the server itself, thinking maybe that was the problem. Still …

  14. Any help appreciated!! I have a strange situation where records appear to be deleted. There's evidence that the record has been created as the serial number has been used. No users who have access to deletion have been in on the day the record disappears (on several occasions). I have checked: Scripts that might have full access privileges, scripts that delete, relationships that could delete related records. All good there. Has anyone had similar experiences with FileMaker Pro 12.0v4/FM Server 12.0v2 Mac OSX Snow Leopard/Mountain Lion?

  15. Hoping someone might have some insight on this. I have a FM Server script that is bailing without any error. I have put email scripts on key parts of the script with last error, and some other info. It works until it gets the the IF statement and apparently exits. I put email steps in each part of the If Else If Else chains so I can know what it is executing. None of those are running. I get Last Error after a Perform Find of 0 and the records found of 3501, which is expected, but nothing else happens. Their statistics in the admin console will max out (elapsed time/call 15001916), and CPU usage on the server skyrockets (150-170%, screenshot attached). Attempts to disconnect the user via admin console will successfully kick them out of their client, but the user in the statistics panel doesn't disappear, and if they reconnect there will be two instances of their name listed. 21. I'm trying to export records from a constrained set into a CSV file. I have taken note that when exporting via a server script you have to export to the Documents folder on the server (or a temporary folder) so I use get(DocumentsPath) & "filename.csv" for the exporting the filename and path. When I run the script within the client it works perfectly. The exported document is placed in the documents folder. However, when I try to run it from the server no file is created. I have placed a send email command into the script which shows data from the last record in the found set and the email is sent correctly, so I know the set of records is constrained suc…

We are using FMS 12.03 on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8. I had some questions about using progressive backups that doesn't appear to be too closely addressed: in respect to Progressive Backups, how quickly do you have to realize, and respond, to a problem with you DB? As I understand it, you really only have (2 * Interval) minutes to respond to a problem with your database. If you wait longer than that to grab a copy of the backup file, then you will get a copy that contains the bad data or corrupted file structure. Perhaps a side benefit to this: Does Progressive backup BETTER protect you against file corruption, since it is (or sounds like it is) recreating …

It should open the served file and then close. The only examples I have found are very old and they don't explain. I need to give someone the opener and all I know is the file name. I need someone on that end who knows nothing to finish 'pointing' it manually and saving the file to distribute to their other users or have the ability to explain and I do not know how. The person who knows how isn't there any more and I don't know. They have Mac 10.6 users and Windows 7. Do they need to find out the server addres…

  55. Hello, I'm fairly new to this forum and to FMS in general but I've been working on the Training Series the past couple days and I've recently stumbled on a problem I'm unable to fix. After creating this simple system-level script to run on schedule (for cold backup) I am getting an error that states aborted by user and/or invalid command. My suspicion was that it had to with my system since I had an error opening FTS 12 several times and I had to reinstall it, but I am receiving the same error when I attempted to run it on PC (I'm currently working on a Mac). I believe that FTS is having trouble finding/locating the script which is causing this error. I've spe…

After spending quite a few hours trying to get a brand new MacMini Server just upgraded to Mountain Lion Server to work with our new FMS12, I finally came across this article on the FM knowledge base which bluntly states that Apple's latest operating system will NOT work with its subsidiary's latest database server with respect to web publishing, PHP and several other features. The installation process itself provides no indication of this, other than the web server not being located at the final stage of the deployment process. I phoned our local FM branch and even more bluntly they told me that engineers were 'working on it' and they could not or would not share an…

I am using Macusa for hosting my data file created in Filemaker Pro Advanced. The file was uploaded okay, but the "find" does not work on the web. I related this to Macusa and they said there were many issues with 12 and said I should Google for information. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to transfer/import FM12 back to FM11?

All, On one of our Filemaker Server 10 databases, a user has been getting intermittent errors when running a script, attached to a button: Unkown Error: -1728 Based on what I've learned from the user, the error happens right before a "show layout" command. (see below). I am suspecting the "set theInventoryID" command that executes right before the error: set theDatabaseName to "F&B POs" set theCellName to "Product ID" tell application "FileMaker Pro" set theInventoryID to contents of cell "ID" of current record tell database theDatabaseName -- -1728 error happens here!! show layout "Inventory - All Quantities" show e…

  60. While developing a new CWP solution, some of my pages have errors, like incorrect URLs. Whenever I call a page with an error, FM Web Publishing "freaks out" on my test machine running OSX Snow Leopard Server. Activity Monitor shows CPU activity in the 60-90% range. During this period, the web server serves pages very slowly, if at all. The database server shows high activity, too. FM Web Publishing eventually settles down to 0.1%, but it takes several minutes or more. Using the FMS Console to stop Web Publishing does not stop the activity. I have to also quite the database server to get it to stop. It's not infinite loops causing this. A simple incorrect URL wil…

  62. Hello Forum! simple question. Can my client run an Mac OS X Filemaker Server that stands in a Windows Network and authenticates Users against a Group on a Windows Domain Server (Active Directory)? The Group contains the users we want to give access to the Filemaker solution to. I do that already for several clients but they all have Windows FMS Servers where thats of course no problem. Can a Mac FMS Server also authenticate against a Windows Domain, even though a Mac isnt "in a windows domain" as such so to speak? Or do I have to tell the client to get a Windows FMS Server if he wants to do that. Thanks Spongebob

  63. Another IWP problem... At various points some IWP users will enter their login information, but then only get a blank white web page as a result. No error messages, no 'Database Homepage' default page, nothing. Their names don't appear to show up in the Server client list even. This problem does not affect all users equally or at the same time. Sometimes some people get the error, while others at the exact same time do not. Does anyone know if users have to FINISH the "On File Open" script before being considered 'logged in' (that is, showing up in the logs and on the Server's client list)? I am wondering if this is a problem with our login script or with I…

Hi, Currently using FM Server 9. We are planning on using IWP extensively and was wondering if it's worth going to FM Server 12 Advanced, vs purchasing something cheaper like FM 11 Server Advanced or any other earlier versions. The idea would be to re-design the current database to be IWP friendly for internal and external use. We are not very familiar with the different versions of Server Advanced and their respective IWP differences and am hoping someone here can shed some light. thank you, John

I'm looking for a good auditing solution for a filemaker 12 database. I was hoping to use something like FMDataGuard or CNS plus ins, but neither one of these seem to be developed for Filemaker 12 (Even though CNS claims they are). I need something that can track record deletions ( so Ray's SuperLog is not a likely choice). Any help would be great! Thanks

I don't have a static IP address, but from what I can tell by reading things online, I don't technically need one. If some kind soul can please walk me through how I would do this, I will be forever grateful!

  67. I have a script sequence setup where if the "system script before" the FileMaker script fails, it should cancel the script sequence. In my system script, upon error, I echo out a 1 thinking that this should stop the script sequence but it is not. When is succeeds, the script exits silently. What should I do to have the pre script cancel the entire sequence?

  68. Has anybody seen this before? The admin console displays IWP as being off, the "Launch Web Publishing" menu is available and the "Stop Web Publishing" menu isn't, yet Web Publishing databases can be accessed without any problem. There is just a "communication error"displayed on the admin console. Anyone know how to resolve this? I am using FMS 10.0.2.206 on a G5 running 10.5.8.

  69. I am trying to import (or copy) the found set from one table to another on FM Server 12. On 11, I just open a layout for the source table, derive the found set, switch to a layout for the destinaiton table, import (using remote) from the source table... and only the found set of the open layout is imported. On 12, the source table has 4 records. I have created the found set that is constrained to 1 of those records. Opon import, all 4 records are transferred. Any ideas? (I have to admit, I have experienced some quirks with this in the past on 11, so it could be me)

Anybody got it working ok? I've installed FMS12advDev on a Win7 home Prem box and FMS is running fine but the admin console only runs for a few minutes then it quits. Anti virus is off, firewall is down... happens locally as well as remotely with every kind of OS. Doesnt seem to matter whether if it's the latest Java or older builds. Yes, the cache is cleared.

  71. New installation. Using FMS12 and FMPA11. Added a folder path in the Configuration/Databases menu –made sure that it was validated – it was. Checked permissions for the database file(s) and made them Read/Write for ‘Everyone’ and Read/Write for ‘fmserver.’ I can see the validated Folder available in the database list, but no databases show up, even after reboot. I also took the Sample database that ships with FMS12 and moved it to the new folder, but I can’t see it either. Not sure where to go from here…

  72. Hello. Recently I updated the stock installation of PHP that came with OS X Server 10.5.8 to PHP 5.3.10. The file permissions for the folder are set to Read and Write for everyone and is set to make all subfolders and files inherit the permissions. When a user adds a document to the database we copy the document to the shared folder, but the permissions do not get set correctly on that file. When a user wants to view a document we export the file from the record to their Temp directory. 78. To date I have always done updates on the live hosted file, but I now have reasons to work on a local copy, then do updating later. I suppose the basic procedure should be to: 1) close the hosted file 2) download it to my local disk 3) import the data into my new file 4) upload the new file But how is it recommended that I download the hosted file from FileMaker server? Should I use AFP to make the databases folder shared? That somehow seems dangerous and wrong to me... I need to do this from off site.

It keeps retuning "Web Server Test Failed. Return Code = -1" Things we've tried with Filemaker customer support (after paying $45) ... 1. But when I access FileMaker webpublish remotely the ssl is not being used.
