So this might pertain to later versions of the Server, but since I haven't tested it on newer ones, I'll just let this question sit here. I have created the image according to these official instructions and everything is mostly working fine except for EAR passwords not being saved upon reboots. Within a single session those are saved, fmsadmin stop and start server preserve them, but reboot your container - they're gone. It's the same as taking a drive with a FileMaker Server install and plugging it into another machine. Those passwords seem to be dependent on some kind of hardware ID that Docker re-generates upon every boot, so those keys don't validate afterwards.…

Wow, no posts in this category yet. Surprising. I've been playing with installing FMS24 on Ubuntu 22.04.3. I first tried an upgrade on top of the existing FMS23 install, because our IT guy said we should learn if we could. The install seemed to go fine. The admin console launched and things seemed fine. I saw something about rebooting to make the settings persist, so I did that, but FMS did not come back up with the system. I then tried doing a `sudo apt remove filemaker-server` and a fresh install, but experience the same behavior after reboot. Today I moved a file from FMS16 (macOS) to FMS21 (Ubuntu). I first closed the file on the old server, then used scp to move it to the new server. Then I moved it into the FMS databases folder and did sudo chown fmserver:fmsadmin on the file before opening it using the admin console. When I accessed the file via WebDirect, it all looked good, except that the latest 10 records or so were not present. If I access the original file on the old server, everything is fine. Any ideas?

Migrated a file to FMS 21.1.1.40 yesterday, and one of our users alerted me that printing in WebDirect was only generating a blank page without text. I found that this is because the layout uses Helvetica font, which is not installed by Ubuntu (server is on 22.04LTS). It looks like the server should have a substitute: $ fc-match Helvetica NimbusSans-Regular.otf: "Nimbus Sans" "Regular" Is it FileMaker Server that isn't doing something right, maybe?

When I saw FMS complain about needing JDK 17, I assumed that meant a minimum version of 17, so I installed OpenJDK 23.0.2. Just completed an install of FMS 21.1.40 (macOS) and the admin console still complains about JDE 17. Do you really have to have version 17, and ONLY version 17? What's the reason for that? Seems kind of silly...

First off I want to say that I haven't done a FileMaker Server upgrade since probably version 17 so it's been awhile. I'm looking for a best practices checklist if you will. I know I can upgrade to the latest and greatest via the admin console but before I click that nice button that says "Upgrade FileMaker Server" I want to be sure I have my ducks in a row. New install of latest Server on Windows 2019. Following this document. Web publishing will not stay on. Spoke with support. Uninstalled everything. Re installed with alternate JDK from Oracle. Adjusted JAVA_HOME. Now the button stays on for a tiny bit longer. But still no joy. I did all this on 2012 and I recall Java was a pest then too! Any tips on troubleshooting please? We've just switched over to Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. I created a super simple (and supportable) way of doing this. We're using FileMaker Server on Windows but this method should work with other OS's as well with a bit of adapting. Install Certbot from https://certbot.eff.org. I’m quite a bit puzzled: There is a FileMaker database A hosted on a FMS 18 (Mac mini), 10.13.0.10 Working with database A using a FM Pro client as well as running FMS Script Schedules (SSS) or Perform Script on Server (PSoS), everything works fine. Database A has an external FileMaker FileMaker database B attached to it, which is hosted on another Mac mini 10.14.0.10 Opening database A in FileMaker Pro Client App on local network 10.13.0.1/24 on any computer and accessing database B (which is on fmnet:/10.14.0.10/B) works perfectly fine. Hi, in a SSS on my FMS B, I try to access a password protected FileMaker file that is hosted on FMS A. Using a FM Pro client, I can simply type in the credentials when the script runs. However, accessing it from server B, I have no idea what to do. Hi All, I'm currently working with a company that is looking to migrate it's FM Server 12 from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2019 or newer, to ensure continued security. There is no desire to upgrade to a new FMP Server/Client as the existing system works and continues to do everything that is required. We just updated our server to 20. We serve multiple database systems. In one in particular, some of the sorts that have worked fine for years no longer work. This also happened with our last server upgrade. We were able to fix it by following advice in this Soliant article (https://www.soliantconsulting.com/blog/filemaker-server-performance/#server-side-sorting) & disabling server side sorting. We are assuming this is still a thing? Not sure why it started happening/why this setting needs to be disabled? Thanks

I am currently running FileMaker Server with a hosting provider. About once a week, the database server seems to stop working. It may be a script or something, but I'm not sure just yet why this takes place. In the mean time, are there any recommendations for monitoring the status of the server? Similar to UptimeRobot? Hello All I have recently deployed FMS 20.3 on an Ubuntu 22.04 Linux machine. In a single machine deployment everything works as expected with no errors. WebD users login through the API with a PHP script fired from my website. All good. I was told by a developer that I would get better performance for my users by setting up a Primary/Secondary machine deployment. Hello, I'm still on Mojave and I need to create a DB where one field will contain up to 8 pages with images and text data. I tried to google but I found no results. I use Filemaker very simply although I have a FMP16Pro application, It will be really grate to receiva a working suggestion as I need to import in my Database the work from my students which includes images ()not video or sound) and comments. Hello friends, During July and this morning, our Filemaker server crashed (v17.0.5.500). Although it looks like the client can still connect to the server, it is slow or unresponsive. I tried restarting FileMaker Services in Windows Service but it didn't work. Then I restart the entire main FileMaker server, this error is resolved, the user can use as usual. I'm currently developing a custom FileMaker plugin made in Rust using the fm_plugin crate. I've used a bare-minimum example (that is provided in the repository for that crate), it loads on FileMaker Pro 19.6.x without a prompt (and using self-signed certificate), but it refuses to load on FileMaker Server v19.6.1.52, but I'd like to use it on FileMaker Server (but I can't because it refuses to load). Greetings, I've installed Filemaker Server 19 on a separate Windows 11 PC, I hosted my Filemaker Solution on it but I am having difficulties accessing it from Filemaker Pro 19 client on a different PC (same network). The Filemaker solution was originally Shared without a Server and I can access it without a problem. During Filemaker Server installation and configuration it asked for a custom SSL certificate but since I don't have one I just go with the built it Filemaker custom SSL (for test purposes). I am not sure but that doesn't seem to work to connect with Filemaker Clients. How can I get a free SSL and how to install/configure it properly? Thanks.

I have an ODBC link between FileMaker server and the SQL database back-end for Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains. This link was initially made well over ten years ago and has functioned nearly flawlessly over the years. In that time, both FMP and GP have been on different servers and different version but always the link worked. Earlier this year, we made three changes. GP moved to a new server. Night, I am trying to configure a database to auto-open but running into some issues. I created an account with view-only access, but then I try configuring the autologin it's telling me the server does not allow auto login for hosted databases. I am trying to install FMS on a Windows Server running on VMware fusion on a Mac, but at the end of the process I get a message saying that port 80 is in use and that it must be made available for the installation to complete. However I have run "Netstat -a -o" in Command Prompt and the only thing using port 80 as far as I can see is TCP. Is there a way around this problem? If so, I would love to hear it.

26 years ago I created a database for my own purpose. I can't remember my password. This was my diary back when I was 15 years old. I was unable to open the file, but using Text Edit from Mac OS 10.15, I had the ability to see some of the text I wrote back then. 9/20/1998 seems to be the last time I opened the file. 10.15 with Text Edit - I see some content (text parts) What are my options here? I am an accidental early adopter of Filemaker Server 19.4.1 - something I don't make a habit of. One of the new features in this version of Filemaker Server is remote access to the Admin Console. I noticed my server didn't have http 2 enabled and thought it was because I was on Windows Server 2016. I have just installed a new VM with Windows Server 2019 and http 2 is still not enabled. Any ideas why this would be? According to Claris it shouldn't require any configuration. I am using FileMaker Server 19.1.2 (as 19.2.1 wouldn't install for some reason). Edit: Think I found the issue - it requires 19.2.1, which I couldn't install as the installer didn't work. Oh well - hopefully sort it soon.

We're currently running a FM database on FMS v16 with web access via code generated by the old PHP site assistant. Our IT Security people require us to upgrade the server from OS X 10.12 Sierra to 10.15 Catalina, so of course that means we have to take FMS from v16 to v18. I've read that the PHP code generated by PHP site assistant is not compatible with the newer PHP which comes with FMS v18. The only version of Filemaker Go that I can find in the iOS App Store is Claris Filemaker Go 19. With this app I can't connect to our FM Server v.14 like I can with the older Filemaker Go versions. When I send via SMTP server through a database on FM Server, is the IP address that sends out the SMTP command to the server that of the local computer on which the FM client is hosted, or does it correspond to the remote server on which FM Server is hosted? My impression is that it is the IP address of the local computer, since I have always assumed that the software is actually run locally, even if it is hosted remotely. Am I right? I just upgraded our server to FMS 19.5.1 running on Windows Server 2019. It stopped at the service account screen. After looking into it for a while (and uninstalling FMS) I found that stopping the HTTP service by running 'Net Stop HTTP' fixed the issue. I ran this after the part where IIS is installed/configured. Hope this helps others with the same issue.

Hi folks. Have been running multiple FMS instances in macOS for quite some time, but we're mainly a Linux hosting company, so have been looking at FMS Linux on Ubuntu. It's all running fine, except for one thing which I hope someone can help me with. When we setup our other VMs on Linux, we use IPTables firewall in a number of standard ways to secure the VPS as a whole (regardless of what application(s) are running on it). Now the default setup of FMS on Ubuntu Linux (and CentOS before it I think) uses firewalld to manage connection permissions. I have a solution that uses container fields to store a large number of documents. It was suggested that I rebuild my FM environment to use two separate machines, one for FM Server and one for the container field storage. I have the two machines setup and have mapped a shared volume to the FM Server machine. I can move files to and from the share, so I know it is working. I am using the following path in the Admin Console: filewin:/Y:/Test/ Where Y:/ is the mapped drive and Test in the shared folder. I get an invalid path error when trying to save this path. Hi All, Before I call FM I thought I would check here for info. No, before you ask, I don't have a subdomain or an ssl certificate for this server. So is that the ONLY way to get web publishing to run? This would have been an internal only service and we don't want or need outside access. So ssl and fully qualified DNS is way overkill.

I installed Filemaker Server 19.4.2.204. on Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.6. I am currently having problems enabling web publishing primary machine. Event Log: Error 701 Java Web Publishing Engine process has terminated abnormally. I made a second Ubuntu installation this time using the Server version and it worked normally. Has someone got any idea what could be the problem? I would like to have a desktop enviroment for convenience. My only idea was to install the server version, set everything up and then install the desktop enviroment, but there has to be an easier way?

Good day guys, one of my clients is running server 17 all have been working fine for several years, suddenly yesterday the database stopped opening. When I try opening it it shows a red dot if i refresh the page it shows closed. I tried looking at the logs but dont see any errors. Are there any logs I can check why it’s not opening. thanks

We're using Server 18 and aren't ready to update to Server 19 yet. One of our users has a new laptop running Monterey and has Filemaker Pro 19 installed since Filemaker 18 isn't supported. Would it be safe for them to use Filemaker Pro 19 to access files hosted on Server 18, or could that lead to issues like database corruption? Thanks!

Wanted to share a fix with yall. I had been struggling to find a solution that clients began to report to me months after they first noticed (which made tracking down any changes that may have lead to this difficult). Uploads to containers slowed in a major way. What used to take 1 second, took 1-3 minutes. It didn't matter if the container was stored internally or externally, encrypted or not. I have a project table and I have a task table. It's a one to many relationship (1 project, many tasks). Each task has line items for parts and labor. A lot of the tasks are similar or even identical. Hello everyone, I have a situation right now that is causing me a lot of headaches. I have the following scenario, two machines, one as a filemaker server and the other as a filemaker worker, everything is working, except sending emails, I'm using the sendmail script. If I send an email by accessing the filemaker server I can send it without any problems, but if I try to send through filemaker worker I get the error saying smtp authentication failed. Does anyone have any suggestions on this problem? Does anyone else have an implementation of this type Filemaker Server + Filemaker Worker? Thanks

I am looking to help someone with legacy Windows FM Servers, Version 12, getting a NOT FOUND message, on open a 'menu.fpm12' file. Running Windows Clients and Windows Servers only. I know the message isn't really about the 'file not found' or 'not being able to be opened, as the file is there and every user gets the same messages, and there were NO CHANGES to cause this. This is kind of an open question about the recommended, and cost effective hardware configuration for FileMaker Server on Azure. We have a 30 user 10gb database, plus 40gb (270,000 files and 850,000 folders) of secure externally stored container fields. It is hosted on FileMaker Server 19.4.2.204, on Windows Server 2019 hosted on Azure, with 16gb ram, Xeon 8171M @ 2.60Ghz, D4s_v3. The database is accessed over WAN, and end user speed is great. Running the solution with a newly installed FileMaker 18 Server on MacOS X works fine, upgrading to 18v4 the solution still runs well, with one exception; there is no WebDirect. Hello, I just installed 360works email plugin into server 19 on a windows server 2016 machine. It is showing installed and everything is enabled under connectors >> plug-ins. I have been running my email script on my local machine for a couple of years now and it works fine, I had the plug-in installed on my local machine but still using Filemaker server. Hello, I hope I can get any insight about the problem I am experiencing when trying to schedule a script to print PDF and send email with it. Scenario: - Filemaker Server 19.4.1.41 deployed on macOS (Catalina) - Font Ronnia.ttf installed on Library/Fonts or Users/{{username}}/Library/Fonts (tried on both) - Schedule Script to run on server daily. New to filemaker but everything was working fine prior to us switching internet providers. The IP address remains the same, we do not have a new router, same old router, we changed the DNS settings, got our internet, 5003 is forwarded, but for some reason we could not connect to our server remotely. Hello, I am running FMS 19 on windows. I am trying to create a billing package file. I go to an invoice layout and save it as a pdf, then I go to a detail layout and append that pdf. The issue I have is that I then need to append that pdf again with a sales order that a vendor has sent me but am having no luck. I tried inserting it into a container field set to interactive but it didn't work. It only adds a thumbnail with the file name. Is there a way to do this with a filemaker script? We followed the steps in the available documentation "Addendum4_ADFS.pdf" and also used "ExtendOAuth_v1.pdf" to get the AD-FS rules configured as well as the necessary admin console requirements (Client Key, Shared Key etc...) Hi all, So I had some troubles getting the SSL Cert installed on both of my dev and production servers. Long story short, I had to reinstall Filemaker Server 18 (version 18.0.4.428) on the dev (Windows 2012R2) to get the SSL cert to work and it now does work on our developer server. (Green checkboxes, 👍 ) However, I’m now unable to get the Web Publishing Engine Master Machine started with the Java Runtime Engine on the dev server after re installation. Hi - just wondering what measures people might take in the following scenario. Multiple FM7 files are currently hosted on old hardware (running FMS11) and everything needs to be upgraded. A new server is being prepped running FMS19 but there are a number of legacy plugins which almost certainly won't play well with FM19, so before the plugins are tested and replaced, new hardware is being setup running FMS11. We need to move all of the files from the old hardware to the new hardware and test it in a safe environment which minimises the risk to the live databases. Hello, I have recently moved my 360works email to the server and am trying to run the email script on the server side. It didn't seem to work although it did say it "succeeded". I did have some import steps from one table to another which I learned doesn't work on the server (that will be a separate topic) so I stripped all the parsing and importing parts of the script and just left section that downloads the emails and creates new records in an email table I have. Hello, Last week I installed FMS 19.3 on Ubuntu Server 18.04, following the instructions in the article "The Penguin is Back!" The machine is on our internal network, which has no access to the outside world. I expected the performance to be pretty snappy with WebDirect, but that's not what I've seen so far. We recently moved and upgraded our FileMaker instance from 18 to 19 and from Windows Server 2012 to 2016. However, on the new (19) instance, I am getting the following error when I run "fmsadmin get cwpconfig": Error: 20405 (File not found or not accessible.) I am using our admin credentials and I can run "fmsadmin get serverconfig" and it returns fine. The server admin console on both instances match and I have yet to find anything in any config files that jumps out at me as being an issue.

Hello, Did my first install of FMS19 on CentOS 7 today. I can access the sample file via WebDirect from another computer on the network, and I can access the Admin Console. However, the desktop client doesn't even see the server. The server doesn't appear in the list of hosts; not even if I type in the IP address. I have opened port 5003 on the server's firewall, so it should be visible to the client app, right? Thanks!

I've created two servers (Windows Server 2019) that are (theoretically) identical. One for production and one for test. FM19 is set up for Web Publishing on each. The firewall settings match. I've opened all the specified Filemaker ports. All three servers are on the same network. I am able to connect a worker server to my Test server. I am not able to connect that same worker machine to the Production server. I've tried to connect while no users were signed in after the system had been freshly restarted. We recently upgraded our FM server from FMS14 to FMS19. If I do recall correctly we were able to limit the amount of cwp users connected at the same time. It seems Claris has removed this capability and so, now and again, our FMServer is flooded with cwp-sessions. How would you suggest on to tackle this problem? Add a dedicated webserver to the setup again? Maybe there is another way of getting the amount of cwp-sessions connected? Thanks in advance!

Please help! I am upgrading 2 of my company laptops. We're a small service company and only have 3 people using FM to do the scheduling, A/R, etc. The previous laptops ran Windows 10, so I don't see why this is a Windows problem. I set up the new laptops and installed Filemaker but it was about the 4th application I installed. One of the machines was running 14 and the other 15. I have a shell script that I want to run as a scheduled system-level script on FMS 19 on Linux. When I call the script from a Terminal it works as expected. I have a FileMaker 19.2.1.23 server installation on a windows server 2019 AWS r5.2xlarge ( 8 vCPUs, 64 Gigs RAM ) recently moved from an in house server with 6 core 64 Gigs RAM Today after some performance complaints I noticed the CPU usage was much higher than it had been on the inhouse server. I have 10 to 15 users accessing via webdirect and what I noticed is that more than half the CPU usage is the OpenJDK Platform binary. I have a global container field that I want to display a PDF in interactive mode, so that one can scroll through a multi-page document. Works when the file is local, but gives an error when hosted on FM Server 19 on Mac 10.14, with the client being FM 19.2.1 on OS 10.14 or 10.15. Works if I change it to non-interactive. Googling around, the answer is supposed to be that the server needs a valid SSL cert, needs port 443 open, and needs web publishing running. But all these conditions have been met, doesn't help. Hi all I have moved one of my databases (MessageObjects) to a subfolder (ContainerData) on FMS. I only moved the fmp12 file. FMS seems to have automatically created an RC_Data_FMS folder within ContainerData, and within it, there is a folder called MessageObjects. However in the root folder, where MessageObjects originally was, there is still, within the RC_Data_FMS folder, a MessageObjects folder. This isn't an issue as none of MessageObject's container data is stored externally.
