What are some naming standards for Value List? I've googled and can find some conventions for tables, fields, etc... but don't see much talking about Value List. Please share your recommendations! as well as any helpful resources on naming conventions in general. I love easy cheatsheets on this topic! Thank you!

Hi Forum, It's been a VERY long time since I used the "Developer Utilities" menu. The reason is that I have a very old development here, and as it happens a lot of times, the (DYI) customer started out with files having a certain goal, but they evolved into completely other files, and now the filenames are completely wrong. It's about 60 files, and I thought I do the experiment with renaming 1 file, and see if things would go well. And they do not. The file gets renamed, all the other files get copied, and the file reference is not adapted in any file. Are these file references not supposed to be adapted? Just to be sure, I looked it up: https://h…

My friend is an investor in and big fan of Apple, and thus also Claris. He purchased FM Pro with the intent of moving his portfolio and financial management to FM Pro instead of spreadsheets. He has worked hard studying FM Pro, bought and followed a tutorial, but has not gotten very far. I have no knowledge of FM Pro, and my experience is limited and with SQL mostly. So, I am of little help. What would be great help is if someone can provide links to open source examples of stock portfolio management in FM Pro, or of a forum/website where he or I can ask to find such. Thanks!

Hello all - This may not be the correct subforum, but interestingly enough, there seems to be none for Database Design. I have a rather complex FileMaker solution, grown historically and with large-ish file sizes (around 10GB each). I say each because we use 360works mirrorsync to keep several (5 at present) FMS instances in sync. We need to do that as FM clients access the FMS from all 5 continents, where latency becomes an issue in the way FMP client handles list requests. Basically, ever line item compounds two roundtrip ping latencies. So a user in Australia looking at a list served by our New York FMS containing 100 records is looking at a response…

I'm really hoping I'm misunderstanding something - but at the bottom of this page, it seems to say that the Runtime is being deprecated. Is that how others understand this? http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14502/~/filemaker-pro-14-and-filemaker-pro-14-advanced-release-notes

I want to deploy a runtime created with FMA 13. The FileMaker site says that this will work with Mac OS 10.10 and may also work with later versions. Does anyone here know what the latest OS is for this to work, perhaps even the current one? Oh, and I have the same question regarding iOS, because this may be great to have on an iPad as well. Thanks, Stefan

Hi all, In my solution, I have scripted most functions so that the standard menu commands are not needed, or rather, shouldn't be used. As such, I have created a custom menu set that removes all commands that aren't necessary. But now I can go in and select the Standard FileMaker commands from the Tools menu to bring up a standard menu set anyway. Is that just because I have FMA rather FMP and does that mean anyone with FMA can change to the default menus as well? I thought the menu set would somehow be tied to the privilege set, but there doesn't seem to be a way to select one. What am I missing here? Thanks,

I would like to swap object/layout/variable/etc names in a solution, except for the data itself. Ie Layout names, variable names, scripts etc. Since this isn't possible in Filemaker by itself, is there a plugin or other solution that does this? Example: I have 100 layouts containing the word Saturnus. I want the word Jupiter instead. I have a variable all over the solution called $pluto and would like to rename it to $earth. ...in all scripts, etc so nothing is broken. 🤔

I've created a run time solution of a single FM file. However, I will not run on my computer or other computers, all are Windows 10. I get the error "vcruntime140.dll is missing from the computer". I do know, that at least on my computer the file is in a number of locations on the c drive. How can I fix this problem?

Hello, I am distributing a FM solution using runtimes. People can download the solution fine, but if they store/install the runtime in a cloud, it cannot be opened on another comptuer (on Mac at least, I haven't tried on Windows). Mac will not "recognize" the application (although the file type is "application". I am wondering whether this is normal, and if yes is there a solution/workaround, so that users can access and open their runtime on multiple compuzers, not just on the comptuer they installed it on. I have read many forums and searched the internet but haven't found anything on this precise topic. Thanks!

I have a KIOSK mode application (please note NOT a runtime) that has been happily working since around FM11. The basis of the application is a door logging system that needs to pass the collected data on touch screen Windows tablets back to the server. The tablets also collect "user" records from the server so the user can be validated when they enter a PIN code on the tablet. It is designed to be network tolerant and will survive even when the network or WiFi have dropped out - hence it runs locally on the tablets. FM16 appears to have broken this, and I'm suspecting it to be a security issue. The KIOSK solution still runs fine in FM15 talking to a Server 15, and a…

I wasn't sure how to title this question, but here's my question: I have a software protection solution for my runtime product - I use Eleckey from Sciensoft. The basic licensing function works as an EXE wrapper. and I have that implemented fine, integrates with my software seller and my self-hosted activation server. All good. However, advanced features (such as being able to activate specific features) require adding code to the solution - they support several languages, including C#, VB.NET, VC.NET, VB, VC++, Delphi, and C++ Builder. I'm trying to figure out if there's any way a filemaker runtime could communicate with an external program built using one of…

We’re running a marketplace with multiple partners and vendors. The issue is that we’re still keying data from partners into our ERP system by hand, which takes too much time. Hello, I am still very amateur on Filemaker so i hope my question does make any sense. I am trying to write a script that would basically import order information from an email and convert it, first in a new account (if the customer does not exist) and later create a Sale Order. So far, I have managed to do that, but the problem i find is when trying to convert the sale order into an invoice. Since this order comes from our webshop when we receive the email means it is paid, so my aim is that when creating the invoice from the Sale order, this would be marked as paid and set the amount due to zero. This would sound a very easy task, but since our solution i…

My solution is build according to the 'separation model', so I would like to keep control of the local file containing the layout and presentation of the data hosted in the server. I wonder if I could have a script to control wether the local file gets its structure, layout or scripting modified, so I need a function to control when a change to the file has been made before giving it a version number. When the file gets open only to work with the hosted data it's not a new version.

Runtime Solution. Hi all I haver created a FileMaker 16 pro advanced database and now need to distribute it. I have successfully created the runtime solution and all is well on my iMac. I have tried to send this to my friend (who doesn't have FileMaker) and when he tries to open the .app file, he gets an error message :- "The Primary File cannot be found and is required for this application". The structure of the files I have sent him look like this :- Runtime Folder .app .fmpur Extension Folder FMP acknowledgements He can then goto the folder and click the .fmpur file and it opens sucessfully. Is it possible to use AppleScript to open the Script Workplace, select a particular script and even scroll to a particular line? I looked through several AppleScript sources (there are not so many...) as well as the Dictionary of FIleMaker Pro Advanced 15, but all examples seem to deal with using the database (i.e. finding and manipulating records), not authoring. Why would be handy? I have an authoring database where I can store the scripts and scriptsteps of a solution. These are converted from FIlemaker XML using the MBS plugin, not that complicated. Then it's possible to select the scriptsteps that need attention. But locating these scripts in the original s…

Hello, I am interested in creating a custom App to use as an "Opener" file on an iOS device that I can deploy to some fire departments. They are using filemaker Go already but I would love to replace the filemaker icon and have it automatically find their host file on the server and log them in, vs opening the "recent" files in Filemaker Go and having them click on that. I downloaded X-Code and applied for the developer subscription and also signed up for the filemaker developer annual subscription and attempted to play around with it enough to get things to compile correctly but I think it maybe outside of my expertise range. Hello! Being an FM novice, and just finishing the structure of my excruciatingly complicated database, I have to wonder... Is there way to export a list of tables and the fields within each, so I can be sure to include everything on my layouts? I created the layouts a while ago, but then had to redesign quite a bit, and only some bits were auto-added. I just wanted to have a 'checklist' per se, so that I don't have surprises when I actually sit down to USE the beast. I know I could simply expand all of the tables in the relationship graph and print to PDF, using it as a guide, but just wondered what other options there were. Thanks in advance for any i…

Hi - I'm considering upgrading from FMP 14 to FMP 16. However, my solution depends on a distributed runtime for a commercial solution. It appears that API improvements are not available in the runtime. I'm wondering if the window control (cards) and overall windows interface are at least available in the runtime - otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much point in upgrading for me. Thanks, Michael

I'm not sure where to post this, please feel free to move this post to the appropriate forum if needed. I'm starting my first desktop application and it's pretty basic, but I wanted to see if I could deploy it so that I can run it, standalone, on my windows computer. I'm developing on my Mac. I don't have FM Pro installed on the Windows computer so would need to be able to create a runtime application, I think, with an installer... at least from what I've read. Is there a way for me to create a runtime application for Windows, but do it from my Mac? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Mac runtime solution that multiple people around the world are using. It was originally created using 13.0.5. Some users tried running it on El Capitan and rightly got error messages that files were missing as it is not compatible with 10.11. I created a new runtime of the same files that were distributed using 14.0.4 and tested simply replacing the runtime engine file only (& none of the data/interface files). The solution seems to run perfectly on El Capitan with this runtime engine upgrade. I see this the same as upgrading the FileMaker Pro application version, and no changes need to be made to the .fmp12 files. Am I making a bad assumption if I simp…

I've used the PHP simpleXML library as the basis of a simple tool for querying the XML DDR produced by FMPA . It's fairly functional and it has the benefit of being fast. Unlike other tools it doesn't require pre-processing of the XML prior to use. I've decided to publish it under the GNU AFFERO licence. If you're comfortable running a PHP script under localhost you can install it on your machine and make use of it. It's available from http://www.notyourhomework.net

I have a v11 Runtime that we are upgrading to v14 - it's used by hundreds of users across the country. They have a backup routine which exports all the data into FP7 files (we chose this format, as some of the tables have a small amount of user defined container data in older version, which we'll slowly phase out now), it saves each file as a .bak so it's easy for the user to know which files are the backups, mainly when the upgrade to a newer version. This has been fine over many updates/new versions which we've written over the past few years, our restore function imports the data back smoothly. Until now... Moving to v14 runtime is a massive headache due…

I'm just about to start converting a large v11 runtime solution to v14, it will be used at many end-user sites, with many different configs, ranging from a few Win Vista (I note this isn't covered by the system requirements of v14), Windows 7 (the majority), Windows 8/8.1 through to some testing Windows 10 (including older 32-bit and modern 64-bit OS installs). Are there any issues/problems to be aware of in v14; especially in consideration over v11 and with Runtime solutions? My v11 Runtime system is extremely stable, experiencing no issues over the past few years, which is testament to the design and FM version considering a large solution user base. I'm starting to u…

I am a fairly low level user of FMP12 advanced. I created a runtime for a friend who runs a kitchen business. It logs customers, jobs and invoices (all linked tables). Then he moved house! And the invoice had the wrong address on it - seemed simple - all I needed to do was to change the address! I had two strategies, either: a ) Modify the runtime in FMP12 b ) Modify the original database in FMP12, create a new runtime, then export the records out of the old runtime into the new version Lets deal with b first. Just loads of problems. For some reason the records just did not come across consistently (e.g. 120 customers in original - 138 when exported) a…

Hi, I've read that there are tricks to get a FileMaker runtime solution consolidated into a single app. I was wondering if anyone has done this and then successfully had their app accepted on the Mac App Store? (I don't mean the iOS app store, I mean Apple's App Store for Mac OS X software.) I was considering submitting a small runtime solution I created to the Mac OS X App Store, but this would be paying to be an OS X developer, and altering my solution so that's a single app. I really didn't want to go down this road unless it's possible to have Apple accept this runtime. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I'm sitting here on my laptop because as of now, but desktop is performing a DDR Import with BaseElements and is almost unusable. I have noticed that whenever I am performing a task in Filemaker 13 that takes a lot of CPU cycles (Import/Exporting a ton of records, looping through large scripts/found sets, etc), my computer slowly becomes less and less responsive to keyboard inputs. It's running on a 27-Inch Core i5 iMac with 16GB of RAM so it's not the latest and greatest machine, but it's no slouch either. Has anybody else encountered this or know of a fix? This was never a problem before FM13.

I am trying to populate a custom menu name via a calculation. There is a glitch in both FM 12 and 13 when doing this. If I change records, the resulting calc is stuck from the previous record. It does not refresh by changing records. I can change record after record and it doesn't refresh. I have to change layouts back and forth and then records before it will refresh. The scenario is this... A user can add a web link to a field and then give it a title in another field. (The data is entered via a dialog box in a script - of course the field is not global storage or anything that would cause it to hang on the data) The calcs for the menu simply checks to see if th…

For starters, i understand the fact that kiosk mode's role is that to prevent the user from accessing anything other than the program and that is all good and well. Problem is that i would like for some accounts(non admin) to be able to access some programs from windows and also would like to use the advantage that kiosk mode provides and the fact that it looks way cleaner than normal mode. Greetings! I have what I hope is a very easy problem to solve. I have a runtime that imports data from another runtime file. Everything works fine as long as the other file is closed. I have had users who have run the import while the other file is open and the script completes but obviously nothing gets imported because the other file is currently locked. Before running the import script, I would like to test to see if the other file is closed. Is there an easy way to do this? Some calculation that I can test against? etc. Any thoughts would be helpful!! Thanks! Stephen

I'm "this close" to pulling the trigger on the upgrade . . . but one question. In Advanced, is it possible to do a search of all scripts for any reference to a given function? I'm doing some script maintenance right now, and realize it would be a lot easier to see all scripts that reference a given function in any command as opposed to going through each script one by one . . . . .

I would like to execute my own custom find script when a user types "Command f". I have created a custom menu to prevent the user from being able to enter the normal find mode but I cannot figure out how to add my scripts to a menu with keyboard shortcuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I open up my runtime Kiosk solution, it does not fill the entire screen and leaves scroll bars on the bottom and right of the screen edges. Actually it is a tad bit too wide and not tall enough. I have read the tutorials and did my best to search for older articles on this problem. Yes I found some articles refering to this issue but no fixes that work. First, I checked my computer's screen resolution and it is set at the recommended (for that machine) size of 1366x768. I start the solution with an initial script to read screen size and report back and the numbers agree. I have also made sure that my layouts are exactly 1366x768 using the guides that the layo…

In order to facilitate data collection in the field, I created a data collection stand alone app with FM 13 Advanced. To distribute it to field agents, I created a Windows and Mac runtime solutions of the App. Most of my agents run Mac OSX 10.7.x and above as well as Windows 7. One of the agents however is having a problem running the app because she is on OSX 10.6.8. Is there some kind of a workaround to make the app run on 10.6.8? If I create the runtime solutions in FMP 12 Advanced, will that handle the problem?

Is there any way to identify the tab order of fields on a layout? I have a layout with 100+ fields (in multiple tab controls) and I am attempting to compare two semi-identical files to see if the tab order has been changed. I can get the field names with FieldNames ( Get ( FileName ) ; Get ( LayoutName ) ) ... but tab order does not appear to be gathered anywhere, not even in DDR. I'm thinking I'll just have to eyeball it.

Hello! I've created a runtime-sollution that I run in kioskmode, but when I do it goes fullscreen (the layout is about 800x600 in the upper left corner and the rest of the screen goes black). I would like to run it in windowed mode. Is that possible? I hope I posted this in the right forum. I use Windows 7 and FM Pro 13 Advanced. Thank you in advance!

I've been working with FM for awhile, but completely new on the programming front with any other language. I have a 3rd party vendor who provides routing and distance data, much like Google API, but uses PHP or SOAP as their main protocol. The output from any query is in XML or KML. Is there a simple way to connect FM 13 to this vendor or will I need to hire a developer to build the plugin? Thanks, Thomas Hatton

I have a (separation model) runtime solution that was bound with FileMaker version 10 and is used by 20-30 persons around the world. They (& I) consider the data they have input into the program as private. I am currently upgrading the solution to use FileMaker 13 (which is obviously necessary to support users using newer OS!) The two options I have thought of to upgrade the users and to save their data are: 1) For them to send me the data files & I will manually convert the files & import the data into the upgraded solution and rebind the solution to send back to them. I have promised them that I will maintain the confidentiality of their data and onl…

I've read that this is possible. Since each run time has multiple folders (Extensions, etc.) and many individual DLLs, how does one go about transferring all these to the iPad FMGo app? Is that even necessary? Thanks.

Hi - I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this; actually, I'm not even sure what to ask...but I'm hoping some kind person will take pity and help me figure out what I should be asking and where to do it. I have a runtime solution, and need to figure out a new software protection scheme in order to switch eCommerce Providers. What I'm coming up against is the fact that there are very few protection systems that will wrap an .exe without having to integrate source code AND will work with eCommerce Providers that look for a web based license generation system. What I'm wondering is whether there's some way using one of the FM interfaces to something li…

Hi I know when you create a runtime version of a database it disables save as PDF, however if you simply go to print and select save as PDF you can save it as a PDF. IS there a way to stop print mode in runtime. I wanted to send the file as a way for someone without filemaker pro to test it but not to have a full working version. Also is it possible to limited the time someone can open a runtime file... e.g. it will open for 30 days only??? thanks Sarah

Hi - I have a runtime solution which I'm upgrading. The version out there now is based on FMP11 and the new one is based on FMP13. I'm wondering if users have to uninstall previous version or if it's okay to install over the old one. Any thoughts? Thanks, Michael

Hello, I just discovered something scary. I wanted to check if a specific script was used on a layout as I wasn't sure anymore. So I created a DDR. When checking the script in the DDR the 'Layouts that use this script' and 'Scripts that use this script' parts were empty. Still I felt a bit unsure about deleting my script, so I searched for it manually on my layout and...I found it. I used it in a portal on a button (=text). Is this a known bug of the DDR or did I miss something?

This post is to let others know about Developer Utilities (DU) since, in all my years in reading several forums, this potential problem has only been mentioned a few times and I keep running into folks (including developers) who are unaware of the importance of using DU to preserve file references when you must rename files. This is another strong reason that all developers should use FMPA (Pro Advanced). The following can break if you manually rename a FileMaker file: 1. Relationships 2. Functions: GetField() Evaluate() ExecuteSQL() Design functions ... 3. Script steps: Set Field By Name Open File Close File Import Records 4. Value lis…

Hello Board, Not sure if I am posting in the correct forum or not... I have a database solution being used. I want to deploy a Kiosk version of it to another set of users. Can i just create the Kiosk file, upload it to the server and the two work together? The data from the Kiosk file just goes into the original file and vice versa? There's no issue with having to setup the separate files as External Data Sources? Does one become the 'main file'? Thanks, Harry

Hi all, In Filemaker 13 the RUNTIME ERRORS are occuring more and more why? Do anybody have any idea to solve it. I have observed theat when I did any chnages to a layout and came to BROWSE mode when the layout not able to load its simply showing "Runtime Error" and when I click on that error dialogbox the application get crashed. When I open that file again its open with out any error but when I navigate to that particular layout where I had faced the Runtime Error the Filemaker again shows the same error and get crashed. Then I take a new file from last backup and then remember what changes I have done on the layout and not to do that again. But I am loosing all my r…

I'm using Filemaker 13 Advanced to turn a small project into a runtime solution. I have some videos that are referenced. When I create the runtime solution, everything works fine, except there is an error that the solution can't find the videos. How should I reference videos in a file that will become a runtime solution (or where should I put them once I've made the solution). Thanks for your help.

Good Afternoon, I have a script written to import images into a container field. The container field is setup to store the data externally in the MacOSx file system. When I do an import it is importing the name of the file, not actually inserting the image into the container. I'm assuming I'm missing some very obvious detail of how this is to work, but I'm confused. Thank you for any advice you could give me on the proper way to do this. Regards, Ryan

Hi Just getting into my first FM script and all going well so far. But it is quite a big script with many steps and i would like to give the user some feedback about what is happening ("about to start step 1", "Step 1 complete", "starting next step" etc.) Can someone point me in the right direction as to how a display some kind of form or window at the start of the script and update some text on it to give the step by step feedback of what is happening? Or is that not the way bit should be done in FM? All ideas gratefully received Many thanks Mark

I have a runtime (v11) which is distributed to a several hundred users, and as with all users, they have different systems, some are just home/personal laptops, some are corporate secured down laptops, some standalone, some network. I always create a custom installer, which copies the runtime files to the specified location, adds start menu/desktop shortcuts etc. The runtime has several files with data, but as with most runtimes the data is held in the same area as the runtime files as it seems the best option, the system has a backup routines, which also places backup files in the file location determined by FileMaker scripts (as we didn't want to use plug-ins …

One (and only one) of my users is getting the following message everytime a character is typed into a text field: 'cannot load main spelling dictionary' Is this an internal RM dictionary? Or is it looking for some other dictionary? Suggestions as to what to do? (I don't want to turn the spell checking off) This is the only symptom of any problem/corruption with the runtime. Could some security program have stripped the dictionary during the download/installation of the runtime?

Hi - not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I bet Lee will move it if it isn't. I'm trying to do a better job with annotating, documenting and organizing my database model. Trying to figure out the best way to document the reason for various table occurrence combinations, why a script is called, purpose for complex auto enter calculations, etc. I'm finding that I did things a couple years ago to get around particular quirks and deficiencies in FMP (like row highlighting before conditional formatting existed), and now I have to go back and retrace what I was doing. FMP's built in features don't allow too much flexibility for this. I've consid…

Hi, I have a runtime with a script that exports the contents of a container to the temporary path and automatically opens the file. Tesing in my Windows 7 computer works fine. Testing on a second machine with Windows Vista works weird: If the container has a Word (.doc) file, it creates the temp file and opens fine (with Microsoft Word). If the container has a .pdf, it creates the temp file but doesn't automatically open it. If I go to the temp path it shows the file and I can open it directly (double clicking), it opens up with Reader. Does anyone know if the problem is related to the runtime, the computer or the os (Vista)? Thanks.

Well, yes, I know I shouldn't improperly name a file. Windows is very rigid on the issue but Mac is much more forgiving. And I know it is important to use Developer Utilities when renaming a file from a group of files particularly if imports are involved but this was a simple temporary rename of a file to its version number. FMPA 13.0v2 Maverick When I rename a file, it breaks two custom functions which do not have anything to do with the file name. The attached video shows: Desktop with two files (the second an immediate copy of the first and simply renamed) to improperly include an extra period - 1.0v2.fmp12 instead of just 1v2.fmp12. Opening the fi…

Hi everyone... I have been working on a solution for a company for 6 months now and it is approaching its finalisation. however, I had initially setup just a small portion of the functionalities on a kiosk computer for inventory tracking. However, I now need to disable all kiosk functionality and my searches have led me to believe this is not possible... SURELY there would be some sort of warning if this was the case?? There MUST be a way to undo this no? Otherwise what are my options? The database is to be accessed by people across the entire office building. Some of these work in the warehouse where kiosk would probably be desireable. Others still need access to t…

I am new to this forum and posting for the first time. I just upgraded to FM Pro 13 Advanced from Filemaker Pro 11 and am a very novice user. I have created a number of databases for my own use that I use locally on my computer and have been successful at getting things to work as I want for the most part (although probably not in the most efficient manner). Now, on to my issue. My daughter-in-law wanted to track her customers in the business she works at and I created a small database (3 Tables) that does that. In order for me to allow her to use it I upgraded to the Advanced version to use the Runtime application. My understanding of this is very basic but I did suc…

This may be a trivial question, but I'm stumped. I'm running FMP 11 & 12 on the same machine. Both apps have sharing enabled. Is it possible to have both apps share at the same time? I keep getting the message that 'sharing' is already in use by another app. My guess is that I have to restrict my sharing to one version at a time. any comments are appreciated

Hi, I have created a db. and distributed a "runtime solution" to my friends. Some claimed that screen size of software enlarged. While some claimed that screen squeezed, and we have to zoom it to read. Why this is happening? If we use any software, it automatically fits to any resolution of any monitor then why filemaker runtime does not fit automatically to any kind of monitor with any resolution it has. I need a detailed answer and if we can fix it, the whole procedure plz in detail. Thanks

I had never noticed this before. I am not sure I would consider it a bug ... okay yes I would ... but regardless I thought others might be tripped by it. I google searched and I've found no other discussions about it so I decided to make it obvious to FMI and post it here as well. http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/2332acad8b

As FMI has instituted this concurrent licensing scheme for "free" clients like Go and Web, it puzzles me that they won't now make a "Go for Desktop". (or, a networked runtime). A networked runtime would still require FMS to access the data, so license would be paid on the server end, and I'm guessing that desktop and mobile clients put a lot less load on the server compared to WebDirect.

Hello, I have been using a Runtime with FMA12 that has an Applescript command to send an event to the Calendar app on the Mac. This has worked flawlessly up until FM12.0.5 came out. Now the same Applescript command takes almost 1 minute to run. If I run the solution from with FMA, it works fine. However, if I run it from the Runtime, I get the delay. So frustrating!!! Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks, Stephen

I am using FM 12 adv on windows and mac As part of my import script, I need to determine if the Source File has particular Tables and/or Fields. Also, as part of my import script the user 'browses' to whatever prior version of my application they need to import. Therefore, until the import script is executed, I do not know the path or filename. Also, as part of my import script I have determined the full file path and filename ($$Path) and have picked off the FM File Name: ($$Filename). This works. So, I've been trying to get up to speed with Execute SQL and I think the Filemaker_Tables and Filemaker_Fields are what I need to make that determination. …

I made a runtime solution with 4 users, to help us at work, I haven't invoiced anyone. It works fine when I use it, logged into a computer as myself - whether I use my own filemaker log-in or the more limited option for my colleagues. When they use it, logged into a computer as themselves, the solution doesn't work - they just get "this file cannot be modified". What am I doing wrong?. Thanks anyone!! Ivor L.

Hey guys, I've started developing my first FM database and have a very amateur question re: runtime. What is it exactly? I've been trying to research for about the last hour about it, and understand its a "Stand alone application and does not require FileMaker, with certain abilities removed" but what does that mean exactly? I'm pretty sure that it will not work to utilize in my application, which is a CRM/bidding platform for the construction industry. 10-15 (probably more in the future) users will all have to have access and ability to add/edit/delete records. From what I've read, runtime will not work for this - right? I would just create one myself bas…
