Hi, Is there a way to create a circle, with a size that's dependant on a value? I want to create a report that shows a value over each country on a map. I was going to have a map graphic in the layout, and then put a portal on each country and set as 1 row, starting at row 1, 2, 3 etc for the different areas. I think i could do this with a bar chart - but is there a way to make a circle of different size? Cheers, H

I am trying to get to the bottom of this. I need to make an (apparently) simple pie chart but so far it eluded me. I have this database where a field called "TYPE" can have one of three alphabetic values (CSZ, CA, TRB), I need to make a pie-chart which displays the occurences of the "TYPE" field in a neat pie chart; I've been told in another post to make a summary field to count the occurences and to sort it to make it work which I did but I still didn't manage to make the chart work. Hello all. I have a problem that may be a step backwards for most of you. Starting in Version 7, I was an active user and developed some almost sophisticated solutions. Over time, my needs for FM dropped and as a result, so has my expertise. My new role in my job requires some charting that would typically be done in Excel. However, I am doing most of the data entry and reporting in filemaker 9. I need to create bar charts and I need a quick way to accomplish this. Hello, all. Â I am attempting to make a layout in Filemaker that will be a dashboard report of sorts, comparing one time period's sales to a previous time period (user definable). Â I have been able to gather the necessary information and display it as text on the layout with no problem. Â However, what I also want to do is to create a few charts on the page which will display the relationship for a single criteria across the two time periods, but I want to have 4 or 5 of these charts on the page. I'm trying to learn charting and finding it a lot harder than I hoped. Could anyone post an example of a simple "Stacked Column" chart? I'm thinking of something like say you have a database of Car Sales where each record is 1 car sold. Field 1 is Salesman (Joe, Sue, Fred . . .) -- lets put that on the X-axis. Field 2 is Car Maker (Ford, Toyota, BMW). So I'm wanting a stacked column chart so we can see each Salesman's total sales represented as a column composed of the numbers of cars by each Maker. In the FileMaker Pro 12 Training Series they give a problem of displaying a list of salesmen, each with a bar chart. The problem with the solution is the charts are not scaled to each other so that a salesman with 3 sales has a bar the same size as another salesman with 6 sales. Since all these bar charts display on a page together they don't convey the visual information the way I'd like. My question is how to scale multiple bar charts all to the same scale? Can it be done without adding an extra data series just for scaling?

I have a fairly simple Line chart that displays the results of backgammon sessions, where each data point is the cumulative total of points won/lost over time when I sort by Session Date. Works fine. Displaying the Dates along the bottom is not useful, but what *would* be useful would be to see demarcations where the *Year* changes. I know how I would display just the year for each session data point . . . but is there a way that I could display just the major demarcations where a new Year *begins*? 2008 2009 2010 2011 . . . they would not be evenly spaced, since there are more sessions in…

I'm new to graphs on FileMaker so not sure how this one would work, so any ideas would be very much appreciated. My client has a returns table, anything that is returned is entered into this table with the item title, department, return value and date returned. I needed to produce a report which highlights the value of items returned by department by month. Hi, I tried to make a script to copy a graphic (made from a set of data recovered during a 24 hours period) The purpose is to archive one graph for one precise date, to keep a history of that day. I started with the idea to copy the graph at the last entry of the day (script activated on validate data), and paste it in a dedicated container field for that day.. I'm creating a reporting section for sales. I'm charting dollar value of sales on a weekly/monthly basis. To accomplish this, I have a list-view layout with sub summary parts grouped by week and a chart in the header which uses the sorted data. The reporting/charts is working as expected, but for weeks where there are no sales, there obviously no data. When I use a line graph, it doesn't necessarily show accurate chronological history. For instance, If I generate a monthly report from January to May and there were zero sales in February, I want to have February item along the x-axis with a zero value. How can I achieve this? Is it possible to show multiple charts from multiple tables on one layout? I have one chart showing Open Orders, X-Axis is Days Open, Y Axis is # of orders Then I have a chart that shows # orders opened vs # orders Closed, X-axis is year/month, Y axis is # of orders. Hi everyone, Stumped again and totally new to charting. I have a simple calculation field that gives the difference between two date fields in days, then I have three counter fields that determines which three categories the record will be placed 0 -10 Days, 11- 30 Days, Over 30 Days and three summary fields to display the totals of each category for the found set. I am trying to create a chart using the three different summary fields and I'm not sure how or if I can accomplish this. I have attempted various approaches with no success. Hello everyone, I'm trying to create a chart for the incomes and expenses of a certain customer however the main problem is the 'date' field to use. The database is the following: 1 table for customers 1 table for incomes 1 table for expenses The 'customers' table is related to the other 2. I having difficulty creating a simple line chart for related data in a tab panel. Currently, I have a "grid" of related fields (spreadsheet style, rows/columns) in multiple tab panels. Each tab panel shows a single record. This is done by displaying the related fields in a portal on each tab panel, with each portal set to show only 1 row (row1 = record1, etc). Suppose field A is a calculation field that has a value of 4, and field B is a calculation field that has a value of 1, should I expect a pie chart that shows these two values to show A = 80% and B = 20%? If so, I'm not. The chart is formatted to show data from current record (delimited) as the chart is on a layout that is set to form view. I'm not sure whether the chart works out the percentages automatically or I need to define calculation fields to do this. Thanks in advance.

FM11. I set up a report layout with sub summaries. (underlying database is some 6000 records with 50 fields each) Simply a field representing a list of equip types, a field representing an evaluation code (A B or C) and another to indicate the number of the evaluation codes against the equipment type. (simple count calculation to achieve this total count per group) All in a single sub summary part. This works as expected. If a single equip type has say 5 As, and 2 Bs it is summarised and listed accordingly. eg: Equip Y = 5 x A, and Equip Y = 2 x B displayed as two separate line items. I have a complicated series of scripts that do record looping from one table to another and sets the data from one to the other, with the set variable and set field script steps. I have set the various windows that need to open to a size of 0, 0 and a position of -50000 and -50000. For some reason, that I can't figure out, they are still showing up as the script and subscripts run. I checked to see if I had any layout triggers on but I don't. I have even created blank layouts for the various tables I need to access in these scripts to see if that did anything, which it didn't. After a lot of thinkering I realized that the data in charts are affected by the way the records are sorted, so I made a script to auto-sort data "onLayoutEnter", problem is, on the same layout I have another graph that, in order to be visualized correctly should have been sorted by another field. Now, my question is, is in any way possible to have two different sort-order for each of the two graphs? Or is it the only way to achieve that to make two separate layouts with two separate sort orders? I am asking since the ideal solution for me would be to have all charts on the same layout instead of having to put them all in different layouts.

Hello, I am in a bit of a pickle and I was wondering if someone can help me out. I am working on a database and I need to do some charting based on the values input from a value list (and I absolutely have no clue on how to tell FMP to go ascertain how much of each the user input) and I need the chart to change based on filtering (which is done with a button to exclude certain values based on a certain criteria, e.g. excluding items which I acquired for free or items that went unsold) and I was wondering if that would be possible and how? Apologies for my many charting questions -- this is a simple one! I can see how it's useful to have the X-axis scale values labeled at the top of the chart as well as along the x-axis itself . . . sometimes. But surely there's a way to remove it that I just can't see? it seems like overkill to display the scale twice in a chart as small as this one, for instance.

Let's say I have a chart that shows how many Visitors a museum has on each day of the week. I sort by DayOfWeek and put this Field on the X-Axis and a Count summary field on the Y-Axis. Dandy. . . . except that if there were no visitors on a given day, the chart doesn't include that day at all -- you get something like Mon Tues Thurs Fri Sat Sun along the bottom. In this case, and many others, though, you *want* to have 'Weds' included with a 0 data point. But that would in effect be charting the absence of a record. What's the workaround for this? Must be a pretty common need, I'd think?

I have an independant table called "reports". I have a relationship to a "proposals" table that relates to "proposal year". I have another relationship to the same table "different name" that relates to "sold year" (the date the proposals sold. I'd like to have a column chart with (2) Y axis' one for "proposal total" per month and next to it "sold total" per month. I can't see a way to do it with 2 relationships since the chart data area only lets you relate to one table.

I have a pie chart that I'm looking to display percentages of the results of a field called "Reasons for Agreement Approved". ( See Diagram ) I have 36 records and I'd like the pie chart to display the % of the total 36. I'm tried using a delimited list which is the list you see on the right hand side and a Labels list which is basically the same list you see on the right with some added values that have not been chosen yet. When I render the pie chart I get what you see in the diagram. Everything is 5%. What I should see for "PAY API - Int SW Sol." for instance is 18/36 or 50%. Anyone. Dom

I'm setting up various charts for a client and am wondering, beyond allowing them to view these metrics within a Filemaker display, or printing out from a layout designed for that purpose, if there are other means of allowing users to make use of the charts -- for example, in a Power Point or Word document. On my Mac, I'm always happy to just take a screen-shot of the chart and use that image (Is there a built-in screenshot function for PC's?). Hi I have a DB with fields "year", "university", "world ranking" multiple records with uni1>2004>rank uni1>2005>rank etc uni2>2004>rank uni2>2005>rank etc I would like to chart the yearly change with a multi series line chart. I'm struggling to work out how to do this. As you can see from the screen shot I have the universities ranked but they appear in separate charts and I would like both universities to appear together on the one chart. This should be pretty straightforward but I'm not sure how to do it. Say I have a portal with 40 related records, the first 10 records have a significant amount of information that needs to be charted in a value field, but the remaining 30 records have an insignificant amount of information in the value field, say 1 or 2. How can I restrict the amount of records displayed in the portal to the first 10 results and prevent it from calculating the rest of the related information?

I often use summaries with a bar chart where the number of data categories I'm charting vary from one summary to the next. This means sometime bars are very wide with few categories or narrow if a lot. It there any way around this - ie tricking the chart to think there are more - but empty categories? I don't want to add dummy records. Also is there any way to restrict the number of values on the y axis. I only need 0, 50% and 100% not 0,10,20,30,… or worse 0,4,8,12,…which seem to be the defaults depending on the chart size.

Hey everyone, while it's easy to show every other x axis label in a line chart (e.g. with Mod()) I can't figure out how to skip some data point labels on the y axis. When I create empty data rows the chart "cuts" the line, so the values have to be there. Does anyone has a trick on how to do it? To understand the problem better: I have a line chart with a lot of repeating values and just don't need to see every occurrence of the repeated data point label. Thanks in advance.

Charting with FM is only apparently simple... I have an example FM file with two tables: "names" and "activities" I need to chart ALL the data of activities (quantity for each activity) inside the layout of Names (see attached fm7) You can see that the similar bar chart in activities (layout "Grafico") is fine: it shows all together how many activities there are for each kind. No matter what I try, a similar chart on "Names" does not work. You can see that the closer that I've got is a chart that shows the correct quantities but it doubles the bar for each activity type. I have a table called Date Items that includes a field called Dates. I want to create a chart that uses the values of Dates as the X axis, and then the number of days between records as the Y axis. So, if there are 3 records: 1/1/12, 1/10/12, and 1/21/12, the chart would show three entries. The first date would have no Y value, but the next two would have 9 and 11 as their Y axis values. I have a table with the follow rows: SchoolType | Percent | Year | Total Students MS | 99 | 2010 | 12 MS | 22 | 2010 | 10 HS | 80 | 2011 | 25 HS | 70 | 2011 | 20 I would like a bar chart so that there are two series. Hi, I am a newbie to charting, so excuse my newbie question. I have a table of students, and I sorted the table view adding a summary count creating a nice graph of the gender breakup. Ok, now I would like to make another Pie chart depicting the breakdown of their grades. As soon as I resort the table based on Grades to add a summary count, the Gender Graph goes wonky... as it is no longer sorted. I have a straight forward pie chart but this is escaping me for some reason. I have a pie chart with 4 fields for data. There will be some instances where one or two of the fields will be zero. How would a calculation look that would exclude the "zero" data so the pie chart labels don't look bunched together? I want to create a line chart which groups weekly information but I cannot figure it because weeks are strange. I have attached file. It shows how Week of year and week of year fiscal are different even when I use day 1 for fiscal start. And what I consider 'group by week' to produce different results does not match either of them. If I adjust so it matches (see file for year 2011) then it will not match for 2012. If I make it match for 2012 then it does not match in 2011. I do not understand. I have several demographic counts that are already counted (summary field) and converted to percentages (calculation field using getsummary() function) for all my fields of interest. The sub-summary reports are produced when I sort by the field "Case Type". Is there a way to set the X-axis to be fixed like the Set Y-Axis option in "format chart" in FM11? For example: Charting Age and Height on a background of a growth chart. If X axis spans 10 cm representing 10 years, if x= 9 years, it should fall at the 9 cm location on the graph. A formula can transfrom age in years to cm on the graph but not force location on the axis. Currently, x=9 can fall at the beginning of the x axis if is the only record and moves along the axis depending on the number of records. basically, treated as a category. I'm trying to use Conditional Formatting on a pie chart so that if there is no data (i.e. all of the values are zero) the chart will be suppressed. Unfortunately no matter what I do with the fill or text color it still shows up with 33.33% assigned to each slice. Help! Thanks! Justin

I'm still pretty new to charting and I have come up against a problem that seems like it should be a real easy one to solve. I have a database that tracks costs for kitchens that my cabinet shop produces. I'm not having great luck with bar charting CONSTRUCTION BUDGET to EXPENSES TO DATE. When the difference between these values is significant the bar chart does a good job of representing the difference. Hi.... I am trying to chart my patient's audiogram results with X Horizontal axis contains the value of Frequency of 500,1000,2000,3000,4000,6000,8000 Hertz (by calculation). The Y axis is the intensity of the sound heard by the patient for each frequency with the value ranging from 0 to 100 dB (5 dB differences). Creating this chart is not much a problem. Hi. My Pie chart has 30-50 slices and the last few are under 1%. These values become bunched up. I can use a label calculation to eliminate the name for values under a certain %, however the actual % value still automatically displays. Is it possible to add textual formatting to the data labels along chart axis other than through the chart formatting dialogue box? As seen in the image I have a chart that is showing two sets of data from different date ranges. The data itself is shown with different colors within the area chart. I would like the "Date" labels along the X Axis to reflect those same colors. As is, I am limited to using some form of separator between the two date values, but this becomes hard to read when looking at more than a few dates at a time. I want to set up a chart to easily view via line chart the total monthly invoices for each month. With each new month, as new invoices are produced day by day, the line chart extends to show the new months total also. Not sure how i can group each months total invoices on the chart, and set a month/year 'x' category at the bottom. Hey, I need some serious help on this one... I have records that have move in dates and move out dates, and I want to be able to see them charted on a schedule. Almost like a bar graph, but with the increments as days, and I can get a visual look at who is moving in soon, or moving out soon, based on the current day. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Hello to all and thanks for any help. I'm a complete newbie to FM! I have DB I trying to make that has a table for PROJECTS, and a table for CLIENTS. I have a CLIENT field in the Projects layout. Using the Manage feature, I drew a line and created a relationship between "Name" in the CLIENTS DB to "CLIENT" in the Projects DB. Is there a simple way that when I type in the PROJECTS " CLIENT" field FM will see what I am typing and autocomplete this? I cannot seem to get this going. I have SMITH AGENCY in "CLIENTS" and when I type SMITH AGE and go to tab out, it does not auto complete as I thought it would. Thanks for any advice!

I have a simple database that contains my fountain pen inventory. I have found a calculation via this forum that tells me how many pens I have from each manufacturer (Sheaffer, Parker etc)which forms the vertical axis of my bar graph. The issue I have (simple to you guys, is that I have 33 Sheaffer pens. The correct total is shown on the vertical axis, but my horizontal axis shows 33 seperate bars for Sheaffer (working on current found set which I understand), but I only want one bar on the horizontal axis for each manufacturer. This is my first effort with native charting in filemaker so forgive my dumbosity. Is there a way to affix a label to pie chart to describe what a particular section of the pie chart represents? Is there any way to chart multiple series on a line chart based on the current records? I would like to chart a known set of values, such as months of the year, along the X axis. Then have a series (sales) for each person on the Y axis based on the current found set where each record is a series on the chart. It seems like the Y axis must be defined when creating the chart. I have a simple pie chart which displays the number of projects assigned to each of five people. When everyone has at least one assignment, the pie chart is fine. But if one of them has no current assignment, their name does not appear in the label data. Of course, they would not appear in the pie chart itself since there is nothing to display, but I would like to at least see their name in the label data so that the higher-ups will see that they are available for assignment. I'm really drawing a blank here. I have fax logs that I need to analyze by the hour. So far I've set up two tables, Fax Report and Fax Item. Fax Report is the date that I want to create a report for and Fax Item represents each fax that has received. I have a list view set up with employee's direct/indirect (charged/not charged) hours, that is set up as: Sub Summary Sorted by the Week ending date. Each new week in the list then has listed underneath the employee's names, direct and indirect hours. When i change the Chart to Current Record (Delimited data), i can click on each individual employee, and the Graph will only show that employee's hours graphed. This is good. However, i am trying to also enable a graph populated by data from the entire week ending date(all employee's hours for that current week).
