FileMaker Pro 13

I have a script called "generate 100 records" in a FM 13 table called qrgen that is supposed to run another script called "new record" which creates a new record then generates a QR code using the Google API. The script is supposed to run for 100 iterations but it doesn't stop at 100. I wasn't really sure where to post this. I have some legacy Mac Servers running Sierra Server (10.12.6) and FileMaker Server 13. I run Sierra on a MacBook to manage them. I'd really like to upgrade the MacBook to Catalina. My issue is, I know FileMaker Pro 13 won't run on Catalina and I know FileMaker Pro 18 won't access databases hosted on FileMaker Server 13. What I don't know is if there is an interim version for FileMaker Pro that will run on Catalina and open FileMaker 13 format dbs. Anyone know?

Hi, I opened Manage Database and created a relationship in there. Then, I clicked "OK". Hi everyone, hope you have had some experience with this one. I looked on the internet and tried solutions i found there to no success (I have also gotten my IT involved, who are unsure what to do). Our computers have Windows 7 on them, and it works fine (script that opens a new email in Outlook and populates with data...we then manually click the send button in that email to send). I was upgraded to Windows 10, and Outlook 2016, and have had issues immediately. The new email will pop up, and it looks like everything is fine. This has been a repeating issue since I started working with FM12+ I have an object that is fully within the dimensions of a tab. It appears on every tab. I can't get it to stop. I need it to be on ONE tab but no matter how small I make it, removing anchors, nothing gets it to stop appearing on every tab. Mac OSX Mavericks (but it happened on Snow Leopard too) FM Pro Advanced 13 (but it happened on 12 too)

I run FM Pro 13 and connect to a remote database. All is well, but it invariably crashes when I try to export. The database is a custom database in FM Server 13. If I were to update my cliente to FM 16, will I be able to access my remote database, or is there another way out of the crashing problem

Hi I am experiencing strange behavior in creating new records. Using FileMaker Pro 13 Advanced. When I have 1000 records in a table the "New record " button takes about 40-60 seconds to create a new record but when I have 50 records it takes very short time to perform the same task. The table I have has 122 fields and the layout some script triggers etc. The same thing happens when I open the file in FIleMaker 14 to 16. I have tried to make a new layout with only few fields on it and no script triggers and the same thing happens. Any ideas what can cause this issue? Regards, Reynir.

I use Filemaker 13 Pro. When I click on FileMaker Pro Help in my menu, the Help window momentarily appears and then almost instantly disappears. This happens on both my Mac laptops, one with OS 10.12.5 and one with 10.12.4. I used to have no problem invoking the Help screen.

Sorry for this potentially simplistic question, but I have looked into several options and can't find one that works exactly. My issue: I have created a word count field that calculates the word count of a "Content" field for each record in a table ("Notes"). I am trying to figure out how to calculate the sum total of that word count value across all records in a found set. Any ideas on how to best accomplish this? This will affect many people who use Webdings, Wingdings for low-impact graphics and bar charts, as well as rectangles. I have been a long term user of FileMaker Pro, since v3. I have recently introduced it to the accounting manager of the small company where I work. Recently one of our minor servers was attacked by a ransomware virus--CryptoWall. It started with the Excel files on the drive. Now it is hitting PDF files. I have moved my FileMaker files to my C-drive. My question is has anyone known FileMaker files to be subject to this. We have Sophos on the servers, and the accounting PCs have McAfee.

I keep using my databases but after some time without my doing anything but using the database---- there becomes some items which grey out and are not useable. Like New Record ,, Manage scripts,New Database. I am not sure why this is happening. Can someone put some light on this for me. Thanks

I have 20 computers set to shut down automatically each evening and reboot each morning. it isn't practical to manually do this 365 days a year. Th problem I'm running into is that when FM is running, it blocks this shut down process and puts the apple computer into a weird state where it is trying to shut down but fails. Is there a setting in FM or in FM server or in apple Os X Yosemite that will make FM quit first? Is there an apple script that any one knows that can be run on a timer to shut down FM Pro before the shut down sequence starts?

For some reason the hot key command for entering Layout mode (⌘L ), while available when I launch Filemaker, seems to disappear and is no longer available after a period of time. I can still enter Layout mode by accusing it under the View menu. Its just that the ⌘L is no longer on the menu. When working with this file on other computers this doesn't happen, which makes me think its not an issue with the file. Also, there are no custom menus at play. If I quit Filemaker and reopen it the ⌘L is functional for a period of time and then disappears. I can't seem to find a cause for it disappearing. Sometimes (this is the important part, because it seems like 80% of the time it works fine) Filemaker will prevent me from browsing directly to Layouts via the Layout dropdown available through the Toolbar interface.  I know there are no security settings preventing me from accessing these layouts as I've deliberately set them up to be navigable via this menu, however sometimes the folders and layouts will be greyed out.  This isn't a show stopping issue, more of a rather annoyance really, but has anybody seen similar behavior in Filemaker 13 and know what the problem is?   Edit: And now after restarting Filemaker it works...

I have a script that creates a PDF and then proceeds to append 4 other sections of a report to that PDF. It works great for the most part, but my client is crashing with some records. I can repeat the crashes they are experiencing. But never when I step through it with the Script Debugger! So purely at a hunch level I'm wondering if slowing the script down might resolve the problem. I'm not sure of the best way to do that. Thoughts, anyone? In the spirit of disclosure: the document includes SVG header and footer and some pages have 4 or 5 other graphics.

Yesterday I installed the latest FMPA on my MBP and restarted my machine. Great! No Allow Incoming CConnections nonsense. Then today I upgraded FMPA on my desktop machine running OS X 10.7.5 and restarted. The first thing that happened when I launched the program was the dreaded "Allow incoming . . . ." message. My apologies to MikeDR for doubting his findings!

I excitedly saw that 13.0v5 was just released, and it said that they were fixing the annoying "allow/deny incoming network connections" bug. I dutifully upgraded. Not only did the bug persist (!), but it introduced a new one -- for the database I access, I have the password saved to keychain, but it started asking me all the time to enter the password, and whether I wanted to save it to keychain. Great. But, I was able to fix both issues (yay!). For the incoming network connections issue. First, quit FM. Second, go to the Firewall settings on your Mac, and edit the options. Remove FM's entry. Hi, I have noticed that FM13 is backward compatible. I designed a test data base with FM13 and was able to open it in FM12. Is this deliberately built in because some clients may still be on FM12 but the designer is on FM13 Reason for this weird question is that I am testing out a 30-day free trial version of FM13. I haven't seen this discussed here (please correct me if I'm wrong). Since the latest update to FMP, every time myself or my assistant starts FMP, it asks if we want to accept incoming network connections, even though the Mac firewall is properly set to let FMP do this (on both Mavericks and Yosemite). That is, the normal workflow is it asks *once*, but it asks *always*. It appears that this is a known issue, but I'm wondering if anyone here has come up with a good workaround. I have a Products Table, with records for products such as: - Cake - Buns - Trifle I have a Product Items Table with the ingredients of each product. For example, the Product 'Cake' could have: - Butter - Sugar - Eggs ...etc. The solution accepts a Sales Forecast for the range of Products and generates the appropriate MRP (Materials Requirement Plan) down to Ingredient level. Hi,  I am using Filemaker Pro 13 Advanced and when I put a custom URL in Webviewer, the pages don't load. The little "time" bar at the bottom of the page advances very slowly and then gets stuck.  Here's an example of a URL I want to load: http://www.Omron247.com  Here's what I have in the Webview box:  "LinkedIn Database MASTER 2015::url"  The problem occurs whether I have " " marks around "LinkedIn Database MASTER 2015::url" or not.  Not sure what the problem could be. Our research project has progressed to the point that we need to print part of all of our findings. We are using FMv13. and OS 10.10 recently upgraded. The printer is duplex. Depending on the use, sometimes we need part of the data Snd in that case the data fills two pages. The printer prints front/back then goes to the next record and sheet. No problem. Perfect in fact. I have three tables, patent applications, clients, people. The people table lists name, person type, and client. A person's type can be attorney or paralegal. Each patent application has an associated attorney and an associated paralegal, as well as a client. These are defined as text fields. Hi guys, thanks for the great forum - I have learned a great deal in the weeks since I have been using FM. Can I ask a couple on data access when a layout is opened please. It looks like the default position is for a layout to open and display the last entered record. Is there any control over this (i.e adding parameters like sql would). So only open recors where field x equals value z for example. Also I have a requirement to open a layout and display a record at random from any that are available in the table the layout is pointed to. Hi, I have a layout that looks great on an Ipad. There is a portal on my layout that is set to 3 rows and that makes my standard layout show exactly on the ipad without any scrolling. In 60% of cases, 3 rows will be enough, but it there any kind of override that will allow more rows to be added by the end user if they use the 3 available? Ideally i would see an add record button to allow rows to be added ad-infinitum. I find the portal a little alien, unless I am misinterpreting it slightly. Is it me or did Filemaker just take away several key commands from my Mac version of FilemakerPro? I've lost Cmd-L, Cmd-D, Cmd-N, etc. I use these all the time and my mousing arm is getting tired of pulling menus. I just updated to FMP 13.0v4 and these commands are now missing from the standard Filemaker Menu. I use no special menus. My Windows version of Filemaker seems unchanged. Can someone verify my experience? Gary

I am finding that when I open a database in Mavericks, and FMP has to start up, all the layouts are greyed out and I cannot change layouts. If I then close the database and reopen without shutting down FMP, and reopen the database, all is fine. Any ideas?

After hiring a paralegal earlier this year, it became clear that managing our legal docket in a spreadsheet was no longer viable. Hi guys, We recently upgraded our servers and clients to Filemaker Server13/Pro 12/13 and FM is practically unusable at times(far too often) where simply typing a character in a field takes 10 seconds. It is literally unusable in this state, especially since our users are accustomed to 11 which had it's own issues with slow scripts and finds, but never anything like this that makes it impossible to even work and causes entry errors all over the place while FM catches up with simple data entry. I've been developing Filemaker solutions for years now. I started on the Windows platform, but for since FM7 have been almost exclusively developing for the Mac. An old client recently contacted me and asked if I would update their old FM6 solution to FM13 and also put the solution on their ipads. It was quite a job! Question is in the topic title. We are planning a large drployment of FM 13, and our users will be confused if this database pops up in addition to our system when they come in to the application. Is there any way to prevent it from launching on first run? I looked in the Assisted Install.txt options, but did not see one for this.

OK, this one is totally bizarre. In layout mode, using the color palette, both with rgb & hsb sliders, whenever I type in a number and then tab or click to the next available color field, the number I had just previously typed in mysteriously changes to some random number. No matter how many times I try to correct the number, it won't stay the correct number. So, after sheer frustration, I simply started to press the enter key while the cursor was in one of the color fields. I already have a serial code that a colleague gave me, but when I try and upgrade on the trail scheme, it says I can't upgrade to the 'Advanced' version, via the current trial version. Unable to find an advanced pro trial version, I thought I would come here for help. Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations for the best sync tool available to sync between an app on iPad (FM12) and SQL Server 8. I see Mirrorsync2 and it appears to be the hot prospect. But I'd like to know whether it really is as good as it states, or are there better options. I'm looking for simplicity for the users. Is Filemaker the product that I need to create an application managing a stock of many thousands (up to 100,000 lines) of articles with many thousands of sales (100,000) in a year. Stock reports would have to be run on a basis of todays stock but also looking into past stock levels on a particular date. I have tried to make these type of systems before on previous versions FM7 but found that the calculation engine was just to slow for this, has it become faster in the last few years? M

Hi - I recently upgraded to FMP Adv 13, and immediately installed the most recent update. I open a file that was converted from previous format (last used in FMP11). Conversion went fine, seems to work fine, no issues other than very minor graphics tweaks. However, a couple of minutes AFTER I open the file, I get an error message that FM can't find/open the file that I have open. It then locks up and I have to end task. Any thoughts? I'm not running any scripts - in fact, both times it happened, I was just looking through scripts in script manager. Thanks, Michael

I am trying to update FileMaker 13 on my Mac system. I have spotlight off for various reasons. Apparently, you need to have it on to be able to update. Has anybody else this problem?

I have to dump a WinXP computer for a new Win8.1 machine. If I buy FM13, will I be able to read my old .fp7 files? Will I still see my old report formats? Or is there a conversion routine to be run first?

I upgraded to FMP13 recently, and most things work fine. When I ran my billing renumeration, a severe issue arose. I spent 2 hours narrowing it down to the following issue, which I presume is a bug in FMP13: Please see the attached file and use FMP13 Advanced Debuging $text is set to the content of the field 'text' $Excerpt is set to the field 'Text Excerpt', which is a calculation field based on the field 'text' when $Excerpt is defined, $text changes!!! I cannot figure out what is the issue. This did not happen with FMP11. If I shorten the length of the 'text' field, the error does not occur, so I guess it is a limitation of the string size itself. …

Well I made the jump from v11 to v13 last week and am really just now getting into setting up a new file from scratch instead of converting an old one. SSSssssssssssssoooooooooooooo ... this has to be something obvious and I've searched for 2 hrs now .... but the question is : What happened to the Disable/Enable button for a script step in the Edit Script view ?? I used these heavily for testing out scripts ..... and all I have now are 'Clear' and 'Duplicate' I've imported some scripts and can't enables some of the steps .........

I have an odd problem that I cannot figure out. I am running FM 13 over a LAN and also remotely from another location. The problem is that I have a container field that I set to the path of a pdf to display the pdf. It works well locally but it crashes FM when used remotely. It doesn't do it immediately, allowing me to set the field several times. It usually crashes on the third attempt. Re-starting FM allows me to repeat this process, again crashing on the third attempt. It is not my computer as it occurs with other computers. It generates several pages of a crash report which is interpretable to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Joseph

Has anyone had success pushing the silent install on Filemaker 13? both myself and two others have been trying but we can't seem to make it happen. I just yesterday installed FM13Adv and this morning I opened one of my most oft-used files. The file opened fine but about half of the fonts were now italicized when none of them shoiuld be. Fonts are all installed and I use Font Explorer to control that area. My main text font is Garamond Premier Pro (it is setup fine in Preferences) and when I select one of the objects incorrectly formatted, the Inspector shows no font selected. I can change it to display correctly, but I hate the idea of having to change every one manually and I don't see a global command within FM. If I reopen the same file in FM12Adv, everything is fine. Hello,  I've been on FM12 for a while and thought I'd download FM13 and the trial a whirl for whatever period they'd allow.  The installer runs, lets me choose my language, extracts files and then up comes this box:  (Attached .jpg).  Looked at the instruction .pdf, dug down to pg8.  This ref doesn't seem to give a good idea related to the error appearing.  In fact, this is the exact same .pdf pretty much as seen in FM12.  And FM 12 went in like nothing early last year.  I've turned off the A/V, I am on an Admin privileged account.  I am using Win XP Pro SP3.  Plenty of disk space.  2gB of RAM on an AMD 2 core.  Wrote a quick note to FM via t…

I had this problem with FM12 and it continues on FM13. I have a script that reads (text to speech) a line of text just before it carries out a further action. I have found that occasionally this script stops just at the speech instruction and Filemaker crashes - spinning beach-ball of death, I have to force quit FM, relaunch and carry on. I use this 'speak and then act' approach on several different DBs using different scripts and this crashing behaviour seems to be associated with the text to speech. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Hi, Very basic question here. I've used FMPA for many years on a desktop machine. I just, for the first time, acquired a MacBookPro. I installed 13 on it. I can set my desktop files to share via FileMaker peer to peer and this works. I also have files installed on the laptop. My question is this. If I make changes to the files installed on the laptop, what's the best way to keep the files in sync. Vice-versa as well of course. I know many of you are in the same situation and may have good solutions. I know I can upload to DropBox from either machine upon closing a given file and then download from Dropbox upon opening. Hi, Last week I posted regarding a problem with two script steps getting reversed. This was probably in version 11. However today I found something else strange while using FMPA13. As a result of my last glitch I've been paying closer attention to certain things. On a layout that serves as a pay slip I noticed something odd in the figures contained in a Summary field. Instead of displaying a running total it was displaying total. I am positive I never set the option from running total to total. It has always been a running total, but there it was, set to "Total". I'm posting this because I consider it an important enough warning. Sometime in 2011, a sub script that had worked for a long time stopped working. Well, it didn't fail, but began to stop recording important data. Somehow two script steps began working (and appeared in the editor) in reverse. What should have been SetVariable(all properly done) then GoToLayout (where the variable is used to SetField) got reversed so the SetField was failing without an error message. I found the problem just today. I have no idea how the steps got reversed. I must have done it of course because the data was empty from mid 2011 but complete before that. So why the warning? Hello - For our Food Pantry and Community Assistance Center, we are now using/developing in FM12 Pro Advanced. For the workstations at the desks, we run FM Pro 12. In the cloud,we run one copy of FM Pro Advanced 12 with the solution. We cannot afford Server, that money doesn't exist. Then we Open Remote from the workstations to the cloud. Not optimal I know but it gets us there. Now that FM13 is out, we are entitled to an upgrade install based on our recent date of purchse. Good News! Our cloud provider would also be able to provide FM Pro Adv 13. But now I'm wondering what adverse impacts there would be by moving everything to FM13. Are scripts going to…

I am quite disappointed with the new FM version. A few of the bugs that were present in v. 12 (reported and documented) have not been fixed, and at least one new bug was added: 1. It is still impossible to select a button that is transparent by clicking on it; it is still impossible to see the outline of a button even if Show>Buttons is enabled. 2. Dynamic guides (pink) become permanently disabled if dragged to the edge of the screen (try it at your own risk – you will not be able to bring them back!) 3. Text transparency still not working. I know this is a long shot but I need to try. After working with FM12 for 3 months creating a IWP and using Selenium IDE to create automated testing of the web site, we have now upgraded to FM 13. None of the Selenium test scripts work with the new Web interface that FM 13 creates. Is there anyone else out there that is using this combination of FM 13 and Selenium that I could exchange notes with? For instance: a simple sign in dialog that goes to the front page of the application, verifies that it on page 1, and the signs out. I can not get the new logout to record consistently. I get the attached error message when I try to open the Assets starter solution made in FMPA v13, in FMPA v12.   At first I assumed that this meant that there was a general lack of forward compatibility between files made in v13 and the v12 app.  However, I don't get this error with other starter solutions, or files made from scratch in v13.  Also I can open .FMP12 files created in v12 in v13, add v13-specific features (like Pop-overs) and am still able to open them in FMP v12 (though the pop-over button does not show).  Does any one know what makes certain v13 files incompatible with the v12 app?   Â

I am frequently opening 11, 12 and 13 because of various projects and tests.  I am getting an error that I am unsure how to resolve.  OSX 10.9 rMBP 11.0v4, 12.0v5 and 13.   I sometimes WANT to open in FMPA12.0v5 instead of 13 so I specifically select 12 in 'Open With'.  I even make sure all other 12/13 files are closed (although with Mac I find it more difficult to tell) but I get the Error1 message (attached).  When I select 'change port', error2 windows appear - the first showing the port but immediately greys out and the second message appears on top.  Googling shows http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7669/~/mac-os-x%3A-error-message-when-…

Playing around with the starter solutions and I am renaming some fields to what I like them to be (btw, I love how fm goes uniformly to layouts and applies the changes). I am in the fields pane in manage db and I am selecting a field and starting to write a new name, now every once in while fm refuses to allow the field to change and only allows create. I have to cut and paste the new name and go in and out of the field. Seems like a bug. Really enjoying the changes so far however.
