When I go to the file list using the Server admin software, the file that I want to open just remains closed. Network sharing is turned on for all users in the file itself, but it still isn't allowing the file to be opened in a shared state. Opening the file on my desktop gives me the message,"filemaker cannot share files because another user is already sharing files using filemaker pro on this computer." It seems like alot of people have had similar flavors of this problem. This is what I typically do: 1.) go to Start, Run, access the network folder, and copy a currently shared and hosted filemaker file 2.) paste the file to my pc's desktop, update the record…

We have an old legacy system currently on Windows 2003 SP1 using FMS 5.5. This system is used ONLY maybe once or twice a year to check old archived data. Its not worth the time or effort really to migrate it to .fp7 since its not our production data system. Most of the data was migrated out to a new system over a year and a half ago; currently on 9. However, once in a while when they need to look up how it looked in the old system, they need to go back to it. We havent had any real issues with it on 2003 SP1. However, our server dept want to strongly add the SP2 patch for security reasons. I want to see if anyone else has any issues with SP2 using this setup.

We have used a Filemaker solution for our business for the past 5 years. Suddenly one of the 35 files acts as if it's set to "Single User" when accessing (needing info from a relationship)from a client on the network. I've checked sharing settings and replaced files from back ups made before the problem cropped up. The problem persists with this single simple file. (running Server 5.5 FM Pro 6 on clients) The file can be seen and opened via "File/Open Remote" and the solution works fine on the client until one quits the app. On opening again, the file is "invisible" again until opened manually via "File/Open Remote" from the menu. Hello I have a strange problem. I have 2 dbs that have lookup fields. When the files are opened directly, the lookup fields work fine. When I serve them up & open the files remotely, the lookup fields no longer work, leaving blank fields. Is this normal?

I've installed Filemaker Server Advanced 10 on a W2K3 box, running IIS 6. Get the following error during server deployment: Web Server Test Failed Unconfiguring web server... Return Code = 0 Testing Web Server ... Return Code = false Can't seem to find any documentation for this problem. So far, I've tried reinstalling IIS and going back and forth between installs of FMSA 9 and FMSA 10. Very frustrated at Filemaker's offensive scarcity of documentation. Did I really just have a client buy a 50-user license? : Anyone got an idea what I can do next? I'll call FM support on Monday but hoping for a solution before then.

I currently have FM 9 Advanced Server running on Windows 2003 Standard Server, 10 Lic. When I tried to update to FM 10 Advanced Server I keep getting the message that FM 9 is still running I should read the Getting Started Manual and cannot continue. Perhaps I should have written exactly the message. Bonjour was installed and no problem. Do I have to uninstall version 9 or is it supposed to update automatically. The FM 10 Pro for clients installed with no problem and is running OK despite leaving FM 9 Advanced Server, until I resolve the update issue. One thing I did notice quickly, as it is now my application runs a lot faster.

Hi.Apologies if this is the wrong forum. I have a small business with FM7 located on 1 mac and mostly 1 but sometimes 2 client macs in the office. I don't use FM server. This arrangement has run without a hitch for many years. I recently upgraded the host mac (a powerpc G5) to leopard (10.5.6). One of the client machines is a G5 PPC iMac and the other - the problematic one- an Intel iMac. Both are running 10.5.6. and have done so for months For the first week there were no problems but recently I am no longer able to "see" the server files from the "Open remote" dialog box. I can see the host machine in the (L) hand pane but none of the associated files…

We are still using FMS 9.0.3.325 but I am using FMPA10 client on this one box. I have a local file which has external file reference to our served data file (separation model). Every time I perform a strenuous sort or find, I am thrown 'Communication lost' message. It happens consistently when I stress it a bit. I haven't really lost communication and, after I say OK to the dialog, I'm fine again. But it is very annoying. Has anyone else experienced issues with backward (10 client to 9 server) compatibility? Hi, I am stuck with this and have no clue on how to proceed. With FileMaker Advanced I could just specify the port in the File Preferences and then append the port to the url ala www.domain.com:81 (mapping the respective port thru the firewall) Now with FileMaker Server (and Apache running on port 80) how do I achieve this? I've got a "system-level" script that is scheduled to run at a certain time each day. The script starts running OK with copying files and the such, but when it comes to the following line - "C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker Pro 10FileMaker Pro.exe " "D:FMSnapshotsDaily SnapshotsCompressionCompress.fp7" (which should open up the Compress.fp7 file), it never executes, and after about 10 seconds aborts. Which FMS then sends me an email stating error running the script "returned non-zero status -1" (anyone got info on this error??) Hi all, I was lucky enough to be the first database manager to have his databases put on our then new company server (V9). The administrators just placed my files in the server root. I would like to move then into a folder to seperate them on the server from all the other files (all in folders) What is the safest and easiest way to do this. I now have admin privileges. I've created a file with buttons for users to click to open several different remote databases hosted on FM Server 8. The scripts for each are identical, except for the relevant filename. The weird thing is, when I click the button for a specific file (the 4th button), I get a License conflict warning and Filemaker shuts down. This only happens when I click the button/run the script. If I open the file using the "Open Remote" menu item, using exactly the same file path (copied from the script itself), it opens fine. Hi, We currently run Server 8 at our agency...and I wanted to see what the thought about upgrading is...should we upgrade to Server 9 or 10 or just stay where we are? I have upgraded some clients to 9 and they all seem to be working fine with Server 8 (so far) We only have about 50 people connecting to about 10 DB's so it is not a major operation. first off, i apologize if this isn't in the right place, but not sure ware it really should be. I work with an inspection company. We want to centralize our clients and inspections into a computer bassed application. We have a few inspectors but cant always be at an internet connection. Each inspector would have the DB on there laptop and be able to lookup clients and then choose the inspection they are to do and fill in the forms appropriately. Hello, I developed a problem a couple of weeks ago where my Server Admin Console would crash intermittently when I tried to view the Clients link. This is the error panel that came up: FileMaker Server Admin Console Admin Server Connection Error: An unknown error has occurred. I eventually traced the problem to a particular user. They were using IWP with Firefox 2.0 on Linux SUSE 10.2 machine. The odd thing is it only happened on the Admin -> Clients link. I'm brand new to Filemaker server. Am looking at a copy of FMP Server 7. But, most development work for DB's to be hosted was done on FMP 6. Will this be a problem? I know FMP Server 7 was a BIG upgrade, so I'm not sure if it can handle and work with FMP 6 files. And if the clients with FMP 6 installed can still open the files hosted by FMP 7 server. make sense? I've been serving from just a client version of Filemaker for the past year, but just bought my first copy of Filemaker Server and so far I like it. However, I have a basic question about developing my current solution. In the past, when I wanted to fix something (e.g., I wanted to add a new script), I just logged into the primary computer and edited the solution directly. Now that my solution is running on a server, what is the best way to develop or edit it? I have FMSA version 9.0.3.326 deployed on a single machine running under Leopard on an Apple Xserve but I can't access databases via IWP. In the admin console, the FMS Overview panel reports that the server status is normal and the Web Publishing Engine indicates that IWP is on. I can also verify that my DB is hosted, along with the FMServer Sample DB, and available via IWP to clients. Also, the recommended ports are all open however, when I run the technology tests using the Open Test Page command, only the IWP fails; My browser (regardless if Firefox, Safari, or IE) remains in a fixed processing state and no errors are logged. Any troubleshooting ideas or solutions?

Hi, we're running FM8.5 here, and it has been thrown into my lap when the person who had a basic understanding of it left our company. My knowledge of what can and can't be done with FM is extremely limited (I'm a SysAdmin by trade), so please bare with me. In one of our tables we have a field called 'order_status', on the layout, it is in the form of a drop down box. What I'm looking to do is populate a second field called 'Process_date' (in the same table), with the current date, when 'order_status' is set to a specific value (in this case, 'Paid'). Is this correct? That with a copy of FMP9 Advanced I can preview the user experience of running a solution via the Server, that I don't actually have to have a copy of FMP Server running? A colleague attempted to show me how, but couldn't remember the required steps, nor could we find documentation for this technique. Filemaker 9 Advanced running on OS X. Filemaker (same license #) running on Windows. (nice part about FM license - dual platform, single license legal) Database opened on OS X. From Windows - Open Remote. The OS X side shows up on Windows in the HOST side of the dialog, but the FILES side is empty. Hard typing a IP/Filename enabled the OK, but times out. The network file path is correct (it works from an external PC). IF the Windows box is stand alone, this exact setup works from OS X. It is the virtual machine setup that does not seem to work. Hi I have just deployed a solution at a client, but we have problems that FMP crashes a lot. Specs: FMS 9 running on brand new xServe 10.5 Mac OSX 10.5 clients with fmp 9 running with no problems at all Win xp office pc's (IBM) completely updated and also with quicktime and DotNet. The win users stores their profile on a server. There seems to be no regularity in when fmp crashes. Sometimes when switching layout, sometimes when entering a field and sometimes just without touching anything. Only other app running is outlook. Can anyone point me in a direction ?

I've only heard bits and pieces about this since vs. 7 and, when searching, I can't find anything specifically on the subject (I apologize if I'm the only one who doesn't know this). But, if it is important to always close all databases before you 'stop serving database' in FM Server Admin Console, then why doesn't FileMaker do it automatically for us? I believe I've read it can damage your files if you don't close them first and, if true (or STILL true with FMS9) why doesn't FM protect us from the issue by including closing (and verifying they all close) before stopping server? I have windows 2003 server (SP2) running Filemaker Server Advanced (9.0.3.326) - I'm using external authentication with accounts in Windows server - Most users are Mac Clients. I'm having trouble with the clients showing in Filemaker Server twice and the user is getting a message that they (themselves) are modifying a record in another window. (before you jump to the answer of the other window problem they are in only one file with no additional windows open) This just started happening when we installed the new server and moved the databases over. I can correct the problem if I log into the server and disconnect the oldest user.

Recently, my installation of FMS9 Advanced on my Windows XP Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5200 with Java Run-time Environment version 1.6.0_11 wouldn't allow me to manage FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced database uploads. I removed FMS9 Advanced. I downloaded the most recent FMS9 Advanced from the FileMaker Developer website. I installed it. It never got past the Deployment Assistant, which hangs at "http://localhost:16000/?page=splash" showing the Admin Console Start Page. Last night I transferred all my files and applications from an older MBP to the new MBP. everything transfered fine except for FMS9 which says its unable to launch. the all the details are below. I have been uploading files remotely to my filemaker server using the admin console. However, it eventually crashed out. On reopening i get: Admin Server Connection Error: The admin server cannot establish a connection to the admin server I have also tried opening the console from the filemaker server with the same result. This has happened in the past. I have had to restart the entire server to get it working again. All web services are working, and clients can access the files. I have a problem when I select Upload a Database from Server Admin on client. As soon as the upload assistant window pops up all databases disappear from the Server Admin database list. The upload assistant does not show any databases or folders, except the default and additional folders. Server Admin refresh List does not bring the list back. The way I bring back the database list in Server Admin: stopping and starting the server after hours. Bummer. Anyone experience the same issue? Anyone have a solution?

I am running Filemaker 9.0v3 on an old Powerbook G4 (gotta upgrade that soon!), Mac OSX 10.5.5, and serving it to a very small number of people, maybe 3 or 4 at most. It was running fine, but yesterday I noticed that the firewall was turned off, so I thought I'd better turn it on. But now I can't configure the firewall to let requests to Filemaker through. I'm running a FMP 9 database on FMS9 on a Mac mini running Leopard. All apps involved have the most recent (including SSL) updates. From within the local network, users can see and open the file in the Open Remote dialog by going to the local IP (10.1.10.102). That is also the IP address that shows in the FMS Console Overview. My problem is the client now wants to access the db from outside the intranet. When I put the IP address of the machine (acquired using IP Widget) in the Open Remote dialog on a distant machine, no files are listed. What are possible solutions?

I have read every single post that I can possibly find on every site on the internet and I simply cannot get the admin Console to work on FM Server 9. I have tried every possible solution. I am a php developer trying to install server 9 on the laptop so that I can have a testing server to develop php solutions when I am at home. Hello, I am running FMS9A on Windows Server 2003. We have been up and running for about a year now. We have been keeping up our Windows updates and patches. I want to make sure the rest of the system has the latest updates, but I do not want to break FileMaker. For example, I read on one posting that Java version 7 is ok, but version 10 causes a connection problem with the admin console (per answer ID 7029). Using FMPS8 on a MAC server. I have no physical access to this system other then Mac Remote Desktop. Its located in another building completely. All clients are using FMP8 on MACs and can access the server fine, including myself using FMP8. Installed FMP8.5 Advance on my Mac only. I have a server computer set up and anywhere from 2 to 6 users logged in at once. When I work on one of the client computers and make changes to the database, the changes aren't reflected on other client computers. I've noticed that my server C drive is starting to fill up with FM log files. Especially: C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker ServerAdminadmin-master-tomcatlogs That directory is around 1.3GB of just log files. Can I safely delete logs? Hi We're running FMS 9 Advanced on a brand new XServe. We have a problem with two of our database files which the server doesn't recognised and the admin console won't open. they are showing as plain documents rather than unixable files. Please see the attched screenshot. We have tried opening the files on a stand alone mac using filmaker 9 and they are recognised and open fine. Hello everyone, Since I told FMS to show only databases which users have rights for to connect to, some of the users complain about getting disconnected and when trying to reconnect, users can klick on the servers IP-Adresse, but no more databases are shown. What to do, what to do? Could it be the firewall? I dont think so, cause changing the option that users can see whatever database there is on the FMS, although for most of the databases they dont have accounts for, the problem like the one described above does not exist anymore. Hi, I have a nightly scheduled script running on a Mac FMP 9 Server. There is no External Authentication set up. In FMP's Accounts & Privileges there is an account, "admin", that I need to change the password for. The problem: every time I change this password, the nightly script throws this error in the Logs and Email notifications: -authentication failed on database "XYZ.fp7" using "admin". We recently tried to administer a survey using IWP. Everything was running fine until we had 45 people logged on at the same time. I was watching the stats on the Admin Console and all of a sudden everything dropped to zero and stopped changing. The 45 people still showed up as being logged on. At the same time IWP stopped responding. Everyone that was in the survey system could not move to other layouts and no one could access the main IWP page. The server showed that all processes associated with FMS were running normally. We eventually restarted the machine. After it came back on everything worked. Hi, We have a small office network of four computers sharing a NAS drive. The NAS drive is always on and is effectively our server. The other computers are used by the company's employees and are not always in use. We all want to have access to a shared Filemaker (Pro 9) database. When I open the database, I get a warning that this is a shared database, but that performance will be inhibited by the fact that I'm not running it on the computer I'm accessing it from. Hi all, (forgive my long story, but I figured the best policy was to give as much info as possible) I just recently (this month) upgraded to Filemaker Server 9. My FMS9 installation is up to date, and all of my client installations are running 9.0v3. (FMS9 is running on Windows Server 2003 OS). Hi all Hosting a database on FMSA 9 Clients using FMP 9.0v3 through Citrix presentation servers. This all works fine when users open FileMaker, choose Open Remote, then selkect the database beign hosted. All good. My probem is that I want the users to ghave a connector file for ease. We just received two new laptops running Leopard (10.5.5). When we open Filemaker and go to connect remotely, the production server running on a Mac (OS X 10.4.11 running Filemaker Server Advance v9.0.3.325) does not appear but the development Windows server (Windows 2003 SP2 running Filemaker Server Advanced v9.0.2.151) does appear. We have tried downgrading the OS on both laptops and have tested 10.5.4 and 10.5 and are still unable to view files on the Mac server. OS 10.5.4, however, is able to view files from both servers. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a fix for this? Will we just have to downgrade the OS on the laptops to 10.5.4 or lower?

Hi, I have FM web application (CWP), hosted on two machine configuartion. Database consist of multifiles, hosted on FM server 8 (database server). An web (xsl) files are hosted on other machine which has FM server 8 WPE. It sometimes stops the WPE access. Okay, here's the deal: My client is running a 2-machine deployment of FileMaker Server 9.3. Two weeks ago, their Domain Controller server died and needed to be replaced. We have a website set up using Custom Web Publishing. Shortly after the DC was replaced, CWP stopped working intermittently for hours at a time. Everything else works fine--Users are still able to access the database using FileMaker Pro. When CWP stops working, port 5003 stops accepting new connections on both the Worker and the Master machine. FileMaker reports this as an 802 "Unable to Open File" error. Do the users need to be logged out and do I have to close the DB from FM9 server before starting? 2. Hi, We're currently running FMSA on a sub-prime Windows 2003 Server. We have received an offer from a hardware supplier for a new, fast, powerful, 4 Go RAM machine which looks as if it could do a better job. The pre-installed OS their machine is Windows Server 2008. I noticed that this version of Windows is not mentionned on the FileMaker site as being a supported OS for FMSA 9. But can FMSA 9 work with it? Yes? No? Maybe? Is it risky? Minor glitches? Hello, I just upgraded from FM4 (yeah, I know) to FM9 (Server and Pro). In the old version, a FMP user could close the database on the Server (as in take offline) in order to do maintenance (archive data, modify db, etc). I can't seem to find that functionality in the new version and giving access to the Admin Console is not something I'd like to do. Am I missing something or am I out of luck? Thanks, Mark

Problem: I have one file that works perfect locally with FMPA and as well as when served on a test FM Server. The file crashes FMPA every time when hosted on my production FM server when I enter define database. This problem occurs with no other files on the same server. Hi All: After updating my FileMaker Adv. Pro to 8.5v2 (Mac OSX 10.5.5) to fix the Excel issue, I was no longer able to access the databases on our FileMaker Server (FileMaker Server 9 on a Mac OS X 10.5.5) After our IT guy did some R&D he found an article on this forum that said the SSL cert was the issue. He downloaded the fms_9.0.3.326_mac_ssl_updater to the server and followed the instructions on it's application, then restarted the server. The issue still remains post reboot. If the IT guy turns off SSL we can see the databases, while SSL is checked we cannot. Any help is much appreciated! (the IT guy is trying to avoid …

Can someone explain to me why when you close a file that is hosted on FileMaker Server, it disconnects all users who are running Filemaker? A long time ago, it would allow you to close a server file and if someone had it open, it would give a file not found error and let them continue. I realize there is room for data corruption but it shouldn't kick everyone out of all files because you close one file. It gives the standard, lovely error message: Communication with the host was interrupted and could not be re-established. All affected windows will be closed. Please forgive me if this has been covered: am I correct in supposing that Adv Server with IWP on OS X is prone to stopping? Tht is what is happening with ours every few days. I think it might be after the databases have been backed up. The strange thing is that when it happens, some of our redirects from http.conf just go missing - get chopped off. FM Adv Server writes to this file so I presume it might be the culprit. Has anyone else experienced problems with stability on OS X, or a loss of httpd.conf entries? Your time and patience is much appreciated.

Does anyone have any experience with renaming the servername that FM 9 Server resides on? We are putting in a new server and I wanted to get everything installed and ready before turning off the old server (rbcFM). I wanted to call it OldServername2 (rbcfm2) so I can have both on the domain to allow me to copy the data off the old server to the new. I would then take old server offline and rename the new server (rbcfm2) to the old server name (rbcfm). I didn't know how well FM 9 server would react to the renaming of the server. Thanks, John

First off, there are several things wrong in terms of best practice, and I'm aware of them, but it's the database owner's decision. So that said, I'm trying to find out if the issue is not necessarily related to the violation of best practices, and if so, any possible remedy. Client: OS X, 10.5 (latest). Hi, I started out with a clean install of Windows 2003 server Standard edition (SP2). I then installed IIS 6.0, and verified I could access the default web page from both outside the firewall and on the machine itself. Next, I installed FM Server Advanced 9 - everything went fine. Running the Deployment Assistant is where I ran into trouble. When it asked me how many machines I wanted to deploy on, the selected choice was -2- which I thought odd, but I put it back to 1 and continued on. Picked all the defaults, and let it install PHP, etc., clicked Next. As you can see from the picture, it can't find IIS. I'm stumped. Anyone have an idea of what I can do?

I just added a database to my server which already has a well functioning database. It's in the right folder (Library>Data>Databases>OldDBFolder, NewDBFolder). Server9 Console shows me that it is Normal and check marked under the Pro column. But when I go to my client computer and use FM open remote file then click on the server location, I see the other older DB files well by my new DB files are not listed. I want to run a script that will generate an email that will tell all the member of a specific group the number of new entries and number of updated entries. Hi, everyone. I was running Filemaker Server Advanced 9 version 9.0.3.326 on a G4 tower, 2.0 ghz, when the database started getting extremely slow, approximately 1/2 the speed or normal. It also started disconnecting and generally being miffy, and (horror of horrors) I'd find that the backups I religiously made weren't functioning, e.g. backups of my data from 11/1 had no records in them more recent than 10/22. I am using FileMaker Server 8 and FMP 8. I have a database file of products that is shared and resides on a windows xp pro machine that is our dedicated FileMaker server. I would like to add pictures to this database. More specifically just file references to the pictures as I don't want the database to get huge and I understand this is the recommend procedure. Where the best place to store those pictures? I would like to create a shared folder where my users can upload pictures to. Is it better to create this shared picture folder on a separate file server or should I create a shared folder on the machine that is hosting FileMaker Server? Thanks!

Hi there! I've been trying to get this thing to work all day but had no luck, so I'm trying my luck on the forum now... I have a database running on FMS9 on my iMac desktop. When I try accessing it from said desktop through Open Remote from either FMP8.5 or FMP9 advanced, it works fine. I have fms 8 installed and want to use command lines to control it. I have fmsadmin installed and working fine on my computer but the command lines seem to be trying to access server on my computer not the computer the server is on. I can connect to the server fine using the admin console. the ip of the server is xxx.xxx.xxx.1 and mins is xxx.xxx.xxx.10 and in the admin console the hostname is filemaker server. Im using the command window in windows and type fmsadmin list files and it returns an error saying xxx.xxx.xxx.10: ip address is invalid or unreachable error 10502. so how do i structure the command to reach xxx.xxx.xxx.1 ?

I am looking for advice on the best way to host a set of databases. My goal it to allow multiple customers to access their own database on my server over the internet. I am doing that right now for my own database. Hello. I have filemaker server 5 running on server 2003 and filemaker pro 5 on workstations. Everything was working fine under server 2000 until we got are new server. I have gone under the host tab and pointed to my server 192.168.10.10 and there are no files. But you can see all of the files in the map drive "O". Can't anybody help!

Is there a doc or howto detailing what steps should be taken in moving the app and data to this new server? Hi - here is the scenario ... we run a fm 8.5 db at work that is made up of around 20 separate files all linked together using file references and fm network sharing. Effectively I am trying to make a copy of this set up so that I can do some development work. Having taken a copy of the files onto a non-networked machine I am finding that opening the files is virtually impossible. FM detects the network is missing and eventually prompts to locate the file, but after doing this two or three times then appears to hang. Is there anyway to open the files but to halt the process before the file references are made? This way at least I can get in and change them.…
