How can I print on a remote printer? I am at my house, using the database remotely from my store and I want to print something for them to have on their printer. Since I don't have that printer shared to my house (!!), how can I do it? On the other hand, how can I share a printer over the internet?

Hi I have a database with several portals, I would like to create a report that includes all the portals, but will slide the portals up if they are blank. I know you can slide the portal records up (but not quite sure how to achive this) to hide blank lines, but how do you effectivly hide the entire portal including the header labels if it is blank in the report?.

Sorry if this is beating a dead horse. I've searched and read a multitude of threads on label and script problems when using a second thermal label printer, but no luck. I can't seem to get my dymo 450 to print directly from FM, it just spits out blanks! All I really want to know is if there is a way. If so I'll keep trying, otherwise, it's not worth my time and frustration. I'm running FM 10 Adv on a mac. Is there a solution somewhere? Does one brand / model of label printer work better than another. It seems many users get results from the start, while others, like myself run into these problems. I've yet to find a thread where a no print problem was reported…

hello, i have an invoice database with a portal. the portal store all the items by a barcode scanner, so each item/style takes a line of the portal and if i have 10 items same style it will make 10 lines for same item. my question is , can i make the sales invoice to only shows me one line per item/style? for example those 10 lines with the same product code to one line and acumulate the quantity? hope you understand me Thanks for your help

I have developed sometime ago and ticketing system for our College Safety department. We would like to move forward to a handheld "Trimble Nomad" unit running Windows Mobile 6 and accessing our database using Mobile Internet Explorer. I'm able to access the database without any problem. The problem is Mobile IE has not cue for printing. I've looked around for a 3rd party app that would fix my problem but have found nothing out there. Has anyone had this problem and found a fix. I've contacted the handheld company and they have never tested any printing apps for the unit. No help there. Same with the printer company "zebra MZ320". Or does anyone know of an app that…

Q: I have a small contacts database which lists companies I do business with. It has main "Companies" table In another related table I have individual "company contacts". Of course each company has multiple contacts. I use a portal when viewing the contacts on my computer. However, when I want to print out a report listing all the companies and all of their respective contacts I cannot figure out how to list more than just the first contact. Please help, WTF

I need to print records in bookform on Letter pages, in landscape setup. The records are sorted alphabetically. I have data of 3 records on one page side. Basically, if I have f.i 20 pages, I need data of record 1, 2 and 3 at the left side and data of record 58, 59 and 60 on the right side, because that will be the last page. Is there a way to calculate this and to print it on both sides of the pages. Any thoughts? TIA

Does anyone know an easy way to determine what page a record is on when in preview mode? I need to determine what records are showing up on the last page of a print out. I can't simply go to the last record and cycle backwards because in preview the command only changes the page. My issue is this, I need to know which records are on the last page so I can create a calc field to force the Trailing Summary to the bottom of the page (as opposed to appearing right after the last record). I cannot simply count the number of records and figure out what records will appear on the last page because the records are displaying one line that is the name of the stock item, and …

I have a report that has up arrows, down arrows, and right arrows that are part of the symbol font. On the screen the reports looks fine, when I print it, the up arrows are not printed, but all other arrows and data are ok. This is to an Epson printer, an HP and printing to pdf. Each month I would like to print a report that would list the results of a exercise tests. The list of test names (20) would be in the left column and the date and the values for each test would be in the 2nd, 3rd etc columns. I tried to make the headings in a row but there are too many to fit on one page. I will have maybe 4 - 6 test dates on one page for one individual. When I place the Named fields of the layout report on the left column. The tests results are printed in the second column. The second test date info is placed as a 2 column event under the first and third under the 2nd. Can this be done?

I once asked about this but didn't get a resolution. We print to a number of printers, some are the same model numbers, some are differetn. Many times when we try to print the application shuts down and then it prints. This can be on different printers or even on the same model where some print some don't. I have the right drivers. It's frustrating. I'm currrently using version 9. It's not a driver problem, not a particular printer problem. What could it be? Hope someone can answer this time. Thanks. Mike

I have a report that, say, has 10 fields. One field may be the class that a student is in. If we're in term1 the class is whatever it is. In term 2 the student may have been moved to another class. So I have a field in in the table for class for term1 and one for the class in term2 - which may be the same or different. I want to somehow have the ability to tell the report to print either class1 or class2 into the same spot on the report, depending on, say, some parameter. Any easy way to do that? Mike

I am having a real problem with a User's setup and scripting..,. I have a system that creates work orders and purchase orders from a quote. The system worked perfectly well with FileMaker 4 (GASP!) for years. Recently, the system was updated to run in FileMaker 9 - and should really still run well. The scripting works - automatic printing is fine - IF the users want to print to a "shared" - Ethernet printer... We just got a new Epson printer, dot matrix. Everything we print from FM is about 10 times (or more) larger than the actual size. Other applications (WORD, Excel, etc) prints normal. We had a DFX8000 we've been using, and that worked fine. It died, so we replaced it with a DFX9000, and this newer & better printer can't print what we need. Any ideas/suggestions? Steph

I am trying to print a report in Preview Mode, OSX Leopard, that has 5 pages. When I select print, printing to an HP 4000 TN, it will only print the first page. It does not matter which page is displayed on the screen. The "print records being browsed" button is selected. This behavior repeats across all reports in all of my FMP databases. I am at a loss as to how to get it to print all of the pages.

I have a resource list that I'd like to print so that it is divided in sections alphabetically. If there were many entries in a section (several companies that started with "A", for instance) they would go on multiple pages (without breaking in the middle of any record, of course) and if there was only one entry for a given letter it would be on a page by itself with blank space under. Sections with no entries would be blank (or not show up at all). It would be nice if the letter could be a heading for each of its pages. Is something like this possible? Thank you.

Hello! I have two tables that have the same structure, one for current jobs and the other for closed jobs (do not ask me, that is what it was and they do not want to change it). They are mutually exclusive. I need to pull data from both tables, with the exactly same criteria for a report, but I do not know how to combine them, so the result can be all records matching the criteria from both tables. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find the topic. Is there any way to assure that FileMaker's Preview and the printed or PDF result are identical in regard to page breaks? I have run out of ideas and the users at the firm are angry, as precise page breaks are essential for them. The Preview button contains a page set-up for their printer, for which the latest driver has been installed. The problem occurs both on Mac and PC, it occurs whether working locally or on the server. The page-break problems don't occur on every page, but for the work they do, it must not occur ever. I'd be grateful for any help on this.

My situation is: when I try to print to a paper size other than letter the paper size automatically switches to letter. I have tried it both in a script and manual print modes. No matter what I do the printer switches to letter. I have even tried changing the entire print setup for FileMaker over to the smaller paper size. Once ok is selected the message box disappears and you go back into print setup it is right back to letter. I need some help.

I have a couple of routines that take advantage of multiple printers. Each printer has it own setup. One is a normal laser jet, and the other is a zebra thermal printer. I have scripted the entire print setup, and made sure to enter restore settings. The problem though is that even though that is set up, FM never restores the settings. Actually it is not never it is about 85% of the time. This has been a problem since I first made this file in FM 7, and I keep hoping the next version will fix the problem. Has anyone had any luck printing to two different printers, within the same file and same script? If so how?

When I cancel the Print Setup dialog box, get(lasterror) does not get set to 1. Cancelling "Print" works correctly. I have Allow User Abort set to off and Set Error Capture set to On. This is happening on both 9 and 10 clients. I have another database where Cancel Print Setup works correctly. Any ideas?

I know this should be easy but having trouble locating an answer. Creating a label layout with FirstName-LastName on line 1 and (if data exists) Spouse's first & last names on line2. Address on line3. To avoid unwanted carriage returns & spaces, I tried using a single merge field for names that has a calculation that looks like below. For some reason the output is creating a blank line where the spouse's name would be, when no spouse first/last name data exists. Here's the calculation. Is there a technique to sequentially number subsummary breaks? For example, printing a subsummary report by person and then activity. Person is the break, activities in the body. I'd like each subsummary break to be sequentially numbered. All I can think of is looping thru the records and setting a field in each activity record (first person's recs get 1, next person's recs get 2, etc), then showing that field in the subsummary part.

A script generates a grouped report showing client names and invoices. In preview mode the clients name is at the top and the invoices are shown in order underneath. This is fine. If I print current record the page comes out with the client name and only one invoice underneath. If I print records being browsed it prints all the records correctly with the client name at the top and invoices underneath. Why cannot i print one record?

Back in the old days... No really I have no ability to force the owner of this machine to update their software but I want to allow them to print the current record in a web view environment. If I choose print on the browser I print the entire control interface + the record. Basically I need to be able to insert some javascript and execute it within the record or an element. Have tried a script with an "Open URL[No Dialog; ] element but it seems to require the beginning of the URL to begin with 'http://' which defeats my purpose. Is there a way to set the print quantity from a field within a script in filemaker 10 for mac? The only thing I can think of is to make a separate "print set-up" script for 1 copy, 2 copies, three copies. I have a database with two tables: People and Activities. I want to print the detail of a person and it's related activities. I could make a really large portal for the activities table and use print sliding. I don't like this because the number of records in the activities table is not predictable. I ended up making a list layout from the activities table and using GTRR script step to pull out all the related activities. It worked out really good whether there were one or 1000 activities. I could not find a better forum for this, so please tell me if i posted it wrong and where i should have posted it. I am trying to print with filemaker pro 4.1 and i get the error "Printer is not connected to a port". I have added a new printer and removed the old after this. I have set up a script to print a layout. Problem is i need to print one copy to a SHARP printer, then print two copies to a OKI printer. My report has a Title and Title Header. On the second page, starting with Title, you can only see the first half of the first line. (See attachment) What is the solution so it prints the entire line? I posted this on FM TechNet and the one person who responded wrote that the only solution she is aware of is to make the Title and Title Header the same size or eliminate the Title Header. I have a report that shows a list of people's names and a summary of all their contact info. 2 fields in each row. I have their borders set to left and bottom. When I enable sliding, it creates two problems: 1. blank fields no longer show borders. I've tried adding a line below the two fields and that works fine, but the vertical line I place between the fields doesn't resize when I enable sliding. Is there a way to turn off the feature that makes sliding fields disappear if blank? I could modify the calc to say "None" when blank. Hi. I am trying to print on a duplex printer (front and back page), on pc, two different, unrelated layouts from different tables. To do that, I have to create a two page document and sent it to the printer at once. My biggest problem is that the first layout is a complex one, with subsummary parts and list view and the other is a simple form view with 3 portals. I thought that maybe I could use the footer to create a second page and then use a simple and fake relationship and print them this way. But of course this cannot be done. Does anyone know how to print Avery Business Cards (really, any kind of label) back to back or two-sided? The issue, of course, is that after I print side one and put the printed paper back into the printer, it is reversed. To illustrate, see attached .pdf files. The print flow is by row rather than column. So, I would like all odd pages to print its rows from left to right and even pages to print from right to left. I am trying to print a record having a field that contains a long list of bibliographic references. But only the first page of the record prints out. I have tried defining a layout that puts the list into a merge field (which is supposed to expand and contract to fit the amount of data) but I get the same result. FM Help just tells me to resize the field to fit the data, but I can't resize the field to greater than one page's dimensions. Is there a way to print the entire multi-page record?

for some odd reason our contacts database defaults to "records being browsed" in the print dialog box. it used to default to "current record". this is happening only on one machine (which is serving the database to other macs in the office). all the other macs default to current record. any brilliant suggestions? best wishes max

I am a newbie to setup scripting. I have a To Do list that I want to print landscape. The form is 5.5 wide x 8.5 tall. I want to be able to print 2 pages at once on a single 8.5 x 11 page. This would make it easy for me to keep the list in a 3 ring binder for on the go. I can setup the printer and orientation, but am not sure where to go from there. Newbie here. My Dymo Labelwriter 400 is printing label information down instead of across the label. Example: Winter's Sports prints Winter's across the short end of the label, leaving the rest to print into thin air. I'm sure it's a orientation issue but I don't know what to do to fix it since attempts to do 'landscape' in FM get the text going the across the label instead of down but it's all squished together since it thinks it only has 1" instead of 3" of space available.

Here's my problem I have a report of "Product Descriptions" and each product will have a "specification" #. The report is sub-sorted by spec #, so that all products with spec #1 show, then spec #2 products, etc. The text box for the production description can have alot of text, spanning more than one page. However, the text box won't break across pages; the sub-summary part is at the top of page 2 with the product desc. below it, and a huge white space on page one under the head. If I don't sort by spec #, the body text breaks across the page fine. Anyway around this? Thanks, Gary

I build some large forms in FM 10, some 3 pages, some 10 pages. Everything looks good on my Mac, both PDF and print have good page breaks. Now a Windows user clicks the button, the script takes the user to the layout, sets page setup and prints, but the page break on page one is off and gets worse with every page after. Scripting the page setup on one platform seems to mess it up for the other. Does anyone know of a page setup setting that would maintain page breaks when printed on both Mac and Windows? I have a Job Ticket layout that is a bunch of fields at the top, one field in the middle, and more fields at the bottom. The middle field ("Additional Information") is the biggest field and can be blank or have many lines of information. Is it possible to make just the "Additional Information" field print in two columns? I want to keep this Job Ticket to 1 page and I think if I could put the Additional Information field into columns, that would solve my problem. As it is, we just print it with the information cut off if it extends too far. Thanks!

When we select a default printer in Filemaker, Filemaker doesn't keep the printer selected? If I change the default printer in windows it also change in Filemaker? But why doenst Filemaker keep a setting that I make?

Good Day, We have approx 50 users running FM 10 Pro and a server running FM Server 10 Advanced. Users are experiencing a general slowdown when printing from FM. The print setup screen will appear 30 seconds to a minute after clicking the print button. Thereafter there can be a delay for up to another minute before the print job finishes. What could be causing delays such as these? All clients have the lastest updates for FM. I have done a virus sweep of the entire network, with nothing coming up. Tks in advance for your advice. Shaun

Hi people I know I can get FM to hide any white space I may have by sliding things up, but what if I need it to slide down? I've got a comments field, that at the current layout design is 20 lines deep. What if there are 22 lines of comments though? At the moment it'll only print up to the 20 line mark. Anyway I can get a field to print in full, regardless of how big it is in the layout?

It seems that FileMaker 10 has broken scripted printer selection. You can even use the FileMaker command, get( PrinterName). But it doesn't mean anything. I'm addressing MacOS here but I think this might also occur in Windows. In previous versions, I could use an applescript to cause Print Setup Utility to select a specific printer as default; and FileMaker would print to it; and then I could reset the default printer. This does not work anymore. But you don't need applescript prove this or to experience this problem. In FileMaker, choose Print from the File menu, note what printer is selected, then cancel the print. Go to System Prefere…

I am creating an invoice report with variable number of items. Problem is that I've inserted a footer which shows the total of all items in the invoice. If there are only a few items in the invoice report then there will be a lot of blank space, once printed out, between the body and footer of the report. Is there any way to fill the blank space with horizontal lines or just a border so that the footer of the invoice doesn't appear to be dangling. I've tried everything I can think of but since the invoice is viewed in list view there seems to be no way to draw lines that extend pass the body to the footer section.

Hi I have set up a layout to print company address and extra info in columns. What I am trying to achieve is for the next data set to follow after/below the previous one ie for the next one to split (if necessary) at the bottom of the column and to continue at the top of the next column. IE I want to allow the contents of the selected part (body) to print a portion at the bottom of the column and the rest at the top of the column. I have a layout with 5 text fields. Each of the text fields is 1 page to 2 pages long due to the amount of information that "could be" entered in them. I have the fields set up for sliding when printing, which is working well. My problem is that sometimes the fields do not have a lot of data and can all print on one page, but then I get 4 blank pages after. How can I stop the 4 blank pages from printing?

Okay, I'm very new at using FM7... and don't understand scripting yet, at all... But, I've been very successful at creating hundreds of records... that emulate rows and columns (like I previously used in Excel). My last "column" is of Container fields (for pics). Some records only have 1 pic, but may contain up to 5. All the rest of the columns are text/data fields. I've set them to "slide" (up) in the event one field has less info than another record... Up to now Ive always used FM 8,5 in Leopard without problems. In Snowleopard I am now unable to print anything from Filemaker. It just doesnt print. Dialog disappears and it prints nothing. Any ideas? I cant upgrade 8,5 as the implications of that at the moment are to huge (too many Dbs to upgrade). I think Ill downgrade again. Anyone have this and solve it? And yes; I have read the recommendations by some members here not to upgrade yet, so please let someone answer this who may have a tip how to solve it, rather than post an I told you so, thank you.

Has anyone succeeded in printing out of Filemaker to the Dymo jewelry labels? The jewelry labels have two mini labels that pull away from each sticker. I was able to create a layout, chose the "Jewelry Label 2-up" choice in Page Setup, and then try to print. However, then the first record prints to the first label on the sticker, and then the record after that prints to the first label of the next sticker. So I tried changing the layout to half the size with no luck. Filemaker insists on printing onto only one of the jewelry labels on each sticker so I'm wasting one label per sticker. Anyone face this problem and have a workaround? Best, Salem

There have been many threads with DYMO printer issues. I have a DYMO Labelwriter DUO. After many manual adjustments, I finally was able to print barcodes on 1/2" tape roll. Now I have a problem with printing a custom label (1.5 x 2.5 rolls). I have the page setup as 1.375 x 2.375 (tried 1.5 x 2.5, 1.25 x 2.25, etc.) - it looks as it should in preview, but the label shifts to the right and up approx 1/2 inch... and prints onto the next label I have read that many people have adjusted their layout to "fix" the issue - any help here would be much appreciated

Hi, wondering if anyone has come across this problem... I created some layouts on my mac, and to print, I scale it 80% and print. All done via button when I want to print) When I switch to my windows machine and try to print to the same printer, it won't reduce. If I force it to scale to 80%, it takes what would have been printed at 100% (cropped on right and bottom) and shrinks that whole section down to 80% of the paper. It's still missing that 20% of the image. Had it "redrawn" the 20%, it would print normal. Make sense? I've tried it one 2 different printers. It's Filemaker specific in Windows. I have a layout with two portals, I need to print the last two rows of each portal on my report. I have the report layout designed, but I when I put the portal in (as a 2 row) I get the first two rows…I need the dates Ascending also (so a descending sort will not work). Hello all, It seems that if an empty field slides into oblivion due to having no content, *some* space is still maintained on the layout where that field would relatively be. Meaning, if I have a basic layout with dozens of text fields that each span the entire page left to right, if say 10 contiguous fields are empty and slide up into disappearance then they will create a large gap in the final print/pdf output. This may cause an empty page at the end of the print/pdf output if the empty fields were at the end of the layout. Is this status quo as far as anyone is aware or is there some magic trick to really wacking empty space caused by sliding fields?

I think the answer to my question is very simple - but I'm going nuts over it. When I'm browsing a set of Orders, I want to be able to print an Invoice for the one single record I'm viewing - not the complete found set. I need to be able to script this procedure for my users, so I can't just rely on "Print current record." What are the script steps for, in effect, finding the current record? Do I need to use a Set Field? If so, how do I specify what to set it to? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi there, Is there any way to prevent records from being omitted during preview mode or when printing reports where the subsummary field is identical accross several records? I'm running a report regarding time schedules where the Sub-summary part is set as "sub-summary when sorted by: Time." The problem is that in this report there are several records with different activities taking place at the same time, but when I print or preview the report only one record is showing. This one's got me stumped. I have a script that sends a print command to print 3 copies of a letter. If it goes to my Epson C1100, 3 copies come out. But if I change the print dialogue to direct it to my FujiXerox Docuprint 203A, only one copy is printed. If I take a different program and send a command to the Docuprint to print 3 copies of a document, 3 copies come out. So the problem's only showing up in FMP. I've reinstalled the Docuprint driver, making sure it's the latest. FMP updater says my FMP is up to date. Any ideas?

Hi, A client has been printing for years on a network Dymo Label Writer 330 Turbo, on a Windows machine with Filemaker 8. Then after a power outage in which the server crash, printing labels started skipping records. eg. found set = 6 ; printed labels 3 (no blank labels just skipped records) Odd thing is that a coworker doesn't have the problem. Don't know about other machines. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Frank

Just upgraded to 10A and now all my custom labels I had in 9A do not print. The text prints center left on the labels. I have readjusted the margins, I have made the labels from a blank layout, I have used custom label size and they all will print the text center left. I have reset the align text...I have done everything I know to do...the labels printed just fine in 9A. I have upgrade the driver to the Dymo, has anyone had this problem? Jim

I'll keep it short and simple. When I print my database records from a Mac, it looks like all of the text is high enough in its respective fields to account for hanging characters, e.g. lower-case y or g, so that the 'tail' part is fully displayed inside the field. However, when I print the same records from a PC with equivalent Print and Print Setup options, all of the text is sitting right on the baseline of each field and the hanging characters' 'tails' are cut off and do not print. This causes lower-case Ys to look like Vs, etc... Is this an issue with my layout, font choice, or some kind of printing problem? How can I ensure consistency of print output i…

I'd like to suppress the printing of a checkbox set IF nothing has been checked AND IF a certain field preceding it IS empty. I know how to use the Printing/Sliding feature to suppress printing of normal empty fields, but it doesn't seem to work with the checkbox set. I'm assuming I need some kind of calculation field? See the script below. If you set the script to say Canon IR2200i, run the script works fine. If a user changes their printer from another application (Office Color), when the user runs the script again in FMP the script will use the printer just used (office Color) and not the IR2200i as was setup in the script... Hi I have 4-5 users with FileMaker Pro 9.0v3 on Mac OS 10.5.5 - 10.5.7. I am finding a lot of our older databases converted from version 5 to 7 and now being used in 9 have some weird Print type settings saved within them. I am trying to figure out how to clear them. The main file I am trying to fix keeps setting the media type to "Letterhead" rather than "Plain" or "None". I can't find anywhere to change this in FileMaker and don't know why it keeps restoring that setting. Hi folks. I'm using FMPadv 9. I need to print a group of documents. I need a variable number of copies of each document - for instance it might be 4 copies of doc 1, 2 copies of doc 2, just one copy of doc 3 and a dozen copies of doc 4. So it's kind of a print queue. Is there any way for the print dialogue to be scripted to print a certain number of copies? In the print dialogue (it's an Epson C1100) I can't enter a script variable - it only accepts numbers. I have a printer that allows me to do zero-margin (edge to edge) printing. I can create an image in Photoshop that covers an entire 8.5x11 page and, when I print it, I get 100% of that layout. In FileMaker 9, not so much. When I set up a layout in FileMaker it isn't giving me a full 8.5x11 page. There's about 1/4" to 1/2" on all four sides. The Page Setup is correct; FileMaker simply won't let me do it. When I print out my page from FileMaker I get a white border around the edge of my page. This is unacceptable for what I need to do. I sometimes print labels for file folders using a script and layout in FM on a Brother Label printer. I have used it for sometime with no problems. Today Filemaker stuck on the label format and I haven’t even used the label printer for a few days. No matter what printer or settings I choose, FM prints as if I had selected the label printer. I have tried printing from the menu. I have tried to change the Print Setup and Print scripts. I have created new print scripts. I even uninstalled the print driver for the Brother Printer. Hi pretty new to this sort of thing, what ive got is my database setup through instant web publishing and shared so that i can access it through the web. I have a print button setup, on the local machine i run the database off i can click the print button and it will come up and give me a print option. On the client viewing the database through the web it does not come up. Question is can you not print what you usually could through the web on your client machine as you can if using the database on the local machine? and if you can print what am i doing wrong not to receive a print option on the client machine? I'm running FMP 9.0v2 Advanced on my Win XP and Server 8 Advanced. The problem appears in databases residing on both the server and my local machine. Nothing that is text prints. In Preview Mode everything looks fine, but when I attempt to print to paper using any of three networked printers, or to pdf using "Save Records as...PDF" or my ScanSoft pdf printer only graphic elements and fields print. Ok I'm having a blonde moment here. I have a browselist layout with about 1 recs. I'm printing them thru a script but only getting the first page as output. I have a header with print buttons (the buttons don't print as desired) and I checked to make sure all fields are within the body. Any ideas. I even put in a print setup script step to check and make sure my settings there were ok specifically printing records browsed. Any ideas?
