I'm getting the same wheel when I start my computer then a message and a window that says "Where is Filemaker" I then need to locate FM9 in a list of applications each time I start my computer. I've tried to save the files as mentioned above (as compressed) them open in FM9 but it still does the same routine when I start my computer again. I'm thinking this may be cause because I purchased the FM9 Advances upgrade (coming from full install of FM 8.5 Advanced). This is really frustrating as it seems I need to quit FM 8.5, then find FM9 in the applications list (from the pop up) then I can get into FM9. I was thinking of uninstalling FM9, then trying to re …

Both version work fine on windows XP and on a virtual PC running Windows XP, I have uninstalled FileMaker and reinstalled it removed registry entries and deleted directories and the problem still exist. We are developing a solution to run in a mixed platform environment. The primary development is being done on Windows boxes running FMP 8.5 advanced. Layouts designed on these machines using Helvetica (9pt) plain font look fine on the PC, but are not as clear on the Mac (mostly Mini Macs with non Apple displays). They also look gray rather than the black text color selected. We have tried an Apple display and it looks better, but not as crisp as the PC. Note: the same layout (with same font, etc.)in FMP 6 looks fine on the Mac. Any suggestions?

Currently using FM5.5 server running a FM6 solution. Up to about 60 concurrent users, around 100 files hosted. Database size isn't all that big, probably around 400M right now, I don't expect it to ever get above a few gigs. In the next 12 months I'm planning to get a new server and migrate to FM8.5 and the newest FM server. I'll be merging all files into one (I know, that will suck) with maybe up to 80 concurrent users, or more. I'd also like the option of doing web publishing. What kind of horsepower are we talking about here? We already have a Windows Server 2003 license so I'll be running that. I believe I remember reading that since FM7 the server d…

I use keyboard commands to switch views and windows. After a few times of accessing different views or the define DB dialog window FileMaker starts to having issues redrawing any screen. Sometimes the window will stay open but just be blank minimizing then open the window back up fixes it until the next time I change something. Other times it will just disappear in the Window menu it shows that its open but if I select it nothing happens. I have to double click on the fi…

  57. Hello, I´d very much appreciate some help concerning the following configuration. We have a Windows 2003 Server and 5 Windows XP users spread over different countries, accessing the server over WLAN. We don´t have Filemaker Server, but a Filemaker Pro 8 Volume License for 5 users. So I installed FM Pro 8 on the server and configured the database for sharing. Then, on the client, I tried to open the database by “file remote open” over LDAP port 389, but FM doesn´t find the databases on the server. In the manuals I read that Filemaker Server has an option, where one can register FM to the LDAP, which seems to be necessary for the databases to appear whe…

Hello, we´ve just bought a 5-licence-Pack of Filemaker Pro 8 and want to install it on a remote server in a way that all 5 users share the same database. It´s a windows 2003 server, our 5 users (each with different windows username / profile) log in on the server via windows remote desktop and work that way directly on the server. To use Filemaker, I installed it with the first serial for the user1 / windows profile 1 (clicking on “Installation only for this user”). Then I logged in as user2 / windows profile2, started setup again, choosed the option “Repair” and entered the second serial. So far, so good: When I start Filemaker as windows user1, it starts with …

So far so good, both versions work reasonaby even if certain things need modifying for the PC runtime (resize window issues). The application is non modifyable and contains about 500 20Kb JPGs, one for each product. When I generate the runtime kiosk for PC it often seems to run irratically by returning false info of just displaying the the same info regardless of search criteria. This DOES NOT HAPPEN ON ALL PCs! We are running Filemaker 7 with Computer One hosting the database. We are NOT using the special server version of FM 7. On Computer One, a VPN server has been created using the Windows Home Edition VPN server ability. The ports on the firewall/router have been forwarded to Computer One. On Computer A, a new computer account was created in XP called VPNUSER. Laptop A connects to the VPN using that special user. I just upgraded to OS 10 Panther and FileMaker 8. I am now unable to find a way for the host Mac to "answer" the phone and provide me access to the network for my remote Mac. I have tried Timbuktu, but while it allows me to connect one Mac to the other, it does not provide network access.
