I have estimate table and there is portal which is coming from estmate line item. i want to copy the record of portal and create new record

I've had a bit of a think on this and can't come up with an idea for a solution. I have a portal that will list employees. I want the user to mark a field next to one of the records in the portal to indicate they were in charge of the job. Anyone point me in the right direction so that the user is limited to having one record marked as "in charge" only?

Not sure which forum Tabs, Scripts or Portals is best but I think here.... I'm using a tab panel with tabs A and B Tab A is a form view for the records Tab B is a portal of those same records .. which in essence gives me a list view I'd like to click on portal row, say 6 for this example, and go to object tab A record #6, click on portal row 4 and go to object tab A record #4, etc..... I've recently started working on a database that was started by someone else but never finished so i'm trying to finish it. The database has one to many relationships and i am trying to setup a filtered portal based on a field and am having a little bit of difficulty. I've got a database that keeps track of classes teachers take. Many are unique, many are classes that several teachers take. When the class is a duplicate, it's assigned a group number. I use the group number for portals to display staff that have taken the same class. I'm trying to create a set of portals on a layout where the user to see just group class names, select a class, then see the members. If I create a portal based on records that are identified as a group class, all records show, thus the name is repeated. I'm looking for a way so the name of the class just shows once. Then the the user could select the name (globals would set with the group id number)…

I would like to use a portal to open external files. I have a portal that contains related records from another table. Each record has a related video file associated with it. In a field within that table I have a file path that leads to the external file. To back up a bit, I am hosting this database on FM Server Advanced. I want the user to click on a portal row and open the associated video file in a separate window. I can do this locally by using the Send Event to open the file and this works. However, external users cannot open the videos. Is there a way to accomplish this using another function or event? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks

Dear Forum, I am building a quoting database using the separation model. I am dragging a number (a value) from one window to another window, right into the last row of a portal into a field that is the field that needs this number. However, I only want to permit this drag and drop of the number into that field IF this portal for fills certain conditions. I can easily limit the drag and drop with the FM 11 script triggers IF i am in the portal field (the on object enter). However when dragging I never enter the object (since I drag- obviously). I'm using a portal in a report, to display multiple records in a sub-table related to the main table. There can be 1 or more instances of the records in the portal. At the moment, I have the portal set to display 10 records. However, if there are only two records, it shows 8 empty lines. Is there a way to have the portal automatically contract or expand to display all the records and no blank lines?

Hello all, i have a question that maybe someone can help me with. I am trying to come up with a system that when user chooses a product from a drop down list in a portal, it is added. Hi there, I have a portal on my layout showing related records. Lets call the (portal)table Items. (I have to translate some because the names I used are in Dutch.) Items is a child file of Branches wich is a child file of (lets say) Headquarter. Each branch can make their own Itemlist. The items are identified by the user by using a identifier, for example "RES10". I'd like to have an area in my form with a portal (I'm used to access, so I'm not sure if this is the right tool to use) for simply viewing records that have been linked to the initial record, say employees linked to the company, but not have any way to input the employees on that initial form. Then I'd like to have a button that allows me to pop-up a window to input a new employee into that company. Can a portal be just for viewing? I don't see a way to set that up. Also with the buttons I see an option for popping up a new window, but not for popping up a new window and going to a different layout? How do I accomplish this? Thanks!

I am building an Event Log. The Setup: Client Table: Client Id, Event Level 1, Event Level 2, Event Level 3 Event Log Table: (Same fields). The Tables are tied, based on the Client Id. All good & simple. I have a portal for the Event Log. Originally, I created the Event Level Fields, in the Client Table, as simple Numbers. I filtered the Portal, based on the Event Level Selections. Originally, it shows all Events. If you select Level 1, it shows only Level 1 Events that you select. Same for the other two Levels. All well & good. My portal rows when clicked by the user highlight in an ugly brown colour. Also, the portal has a picture in a container field that turns to a negative. There is a button on the portal and a scroll bar on one of the fields, so I can't put a mask over the portal to stop any row being made active. Is there a simple way to overcome this?

I am working on a summer camp database that essentially has one table for campers, staff members, clubs, classes, teams. There is also a "grouping" table which links staff members to their club, class and team; each staff member hashas one club, one team and one class. And one more called "group roster" which relates each campers with the groups (each camper has one club, one team and one class). I cannot find the straight answer and this seems very rudimentary... sorry. I just cannot seem to get it right. I have a table called Users with a layout of user information. There are approximately 200 records in this table. I want to create a new layout that has the entire list of students in rows. The purpose of this is to create a "Quick Link" to user information in the other layout. Is there a way to create a portal that has fields in a row rather than down? I have parents and I have students. I am creating address labels for each parent but I want to insert the student names on the bottom line of the label. Hi all, In my solution I'm using a portal. The relationship is very easy: id (unique value) to id_x. (one-to-many) On my layout the portal is placed on a TabControl Panel. I've placed an icon in the portal row for adding a new record in a new window.. Clicking on the icon a new window opens, I enter the data and I close the window. Nothing happens in my portal until I switch to another record or lay-out and back. When I enter the data directly in the portal everything is ok. I am running FM 11 adv There are 2 tables: Members and Dues. There are of course related 1 to many. The dues are in a portal on the Members layout. Each row in the portal shows the dateYear and amount of the dues payment. The portal sorts on the dateYear descending. I want to create a SubSummary report that will sort on the dateYear field but ONLY PICK UP THE TOP (ie, highest ranking) dateYear and it's associated dues information. Specifically, I mean that when a user selects a portal row, that row gets a yellow background; for example. Or, am I imagining this solution and the reality is 'you can't get there from here'? Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced Filemaker Pro 10 Server Windows 7 Pro Any time I need to change the navigation buttons on my database, I end editing one layout header part and then copying and pasting it to every other similar header part. It gets tiresome. There has to be a way make changes in one place globally and display those buttons on every header part where it's appropriate. I imagine it would use a portal, but there may better ways. Is there any example solution out there that I could use as a template?

I am setting up an insurance billing database for use via IWP, and I am having some trouble getting the "reporting" interface right. I'm trying to do this with a portal...this may not be the best way. Basically, I am tracking patient visits for each month. I would like to create a portal on an ORDERS layout (table ORDERS 2008) that shows a 'found set'. For ease of use I want to design a layout with the Order on the left and a Tab Control to the right. The Tab Control will hold a series of Portals. Two of these portals currently are: 1) a list of all the Orders in descend chronological order, 2) the payment history of the Contact . These are imbedded and working. Another useful portal, the 'Found Set' portal, would show all the Orders where field, Status_Order = "Ordered". This limits the list to those Orders not shipped. I have have three related tables: People--<JoinPeopleGroups>--Groups I have a portal in a layout based on the Group table, that uses the "JoinPeopleGroups" table occurrence. The fields in the portal contains the names and some other information from the related People table. Hello I am creating portals using Kieren MacMillan's Fast create type of portal. I am also using a calculation script to add additional data to the Line item . My problem is if I don't click on the required button to perform the script the record is commited and don't appear at the correct place in the report. What is the best way to not commit a record to the portal when clicking anywhere on the layout? I also have other fields not in portals in the layout... so I'm not sure if the layout script trigger is the solution. Thank you

When choosing between portal filtering in FM11 or adding another unique relationship to the relationship table is there any argument for one or the other in terms of improving the speed of a database? The portal filtering seems like an elegant way to keep the relationship table tamed but do you give up or gain functionality in terms of the speed with which records can be found and displayed?

I'm working on a ordering system (purchase requisitions) that's integrated with asset, etc., tables. When order line items are created, I'd like to eliminate redundant data entry, so that if a manufacturer part number, for example, is entered in an order line item record, that is related to the asset records. I have separate goods and services tables which represent two general types of items that can be ordered. The portal that I have created has seven rows and each row has a serial number. The problem is that I need each row's serial to be unique. As of right now, the serial numbers auto enter as the same number (i.e. all seven rows have the serial number of 91, but I need 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, and then 97). I have a portal and I want to give the user the option to delete a portal row. So I have an [x] button that calls a script that uses the delete portal row script step, but it does not delete the portal row. It does not give me any errors in the debugger. On the same layout, in another tab, is a different portal that uses the delete portal row script step in it's delete script, and it works fine. I've compared the two to see what's different. Both have the same settings in the edit relationship dialog, both have an object name for the portal. Hi, When user1 is working on tableA, user2 is prevented from making changes to (a different record!) in that tableA. It is as if the full table is locked, instead of only the active record. This should not be (pretty basic i would say), but i can nevertheless not pinpoint the issue. - Can it be related to the physical setup? I have a products portal on sort of an invoice program. It works fine. What I am trying to is I have another table called payouts that references values from the portal. In the payout table I have a field called EB1Sales. That value is the same value that is in say portal row 5 in the total sold field. I have many fields in the payout table that do this. Dave

There is a table of products that treat various crops for various problems. Each of the products has a repeating field with a list of crops and a list of problems that it treats. From what I have read I can have a button in the portal trigger a script which will: go to portal row[select; no dialog; get (portalRowNumber)] Duplicate Record/Request 1)Unfortunately when I try to create a "go to portal row" script I need to specify ("First,Last,Next,Previous,Calculation)", on a calculation of "get (portalRowNumber)" I get the error "This parameter is an invalid Get function parameter.". I am in the early stages of generalizing a database I built several months ago for setting up and managing workshops in a university setting, and I would like to get advice about a key design decision that I will be stuck with from here on. I have a database I developed a ways back with tables ORDERS, LINEITEM, PRODUCT, and PRODUCTGROUP. Each Product belongs to a Product Group. Groups are essentially master products and the products are style variants of the master product or product group they belong to. So for example, master product Chair and product is Chair Red (style), Oak (material). Hello, I'm a relative novice trying to create a basic timetable management solution for a suite of operating theatres in a (resource-poor) public hospital as well as a job plan for each anaesthetist. My main question is whether to display a weekly timetable I should concentrate on using sorted, filtered portals or or whether I need to manage the horizontal nature of the timetable by using 10 table occurences accessed by relationships using a global "Session in Question" field and 9 related fields incrementing by one each time to display the 10 sessions that make up a working week. Sometimes there are a few portal rows with same id , but different values in position field. Now I want to have those rows of the portal which have a specific id (let's say 3) in another layout. Hi, I have a portal with 2 fields "Action" and "date" and this works fine. The user enters "action" from a drop down list such as "Contacted buyer" or "sent email" then puts the date in the next field. Underneath I have a notes field which is just a text box. I would like the notes field to be inndividual to each row of the portal, so if you click on a port row it shows the notes for that row, click on the next row it shows the notes for that row and so on but not in the portal itself, in the notes field below it. Hi I have a table of users who are linked to a school table by a unique number called "DestNo". Each school has 4 users attached to a school. On a layout I have set up a network group with an attached portal where I add a school as a member of this group via a popup menu. At the same time in that portal I can add via popup menu the related user (from tblUsers) I have a direct relationship between tblUsers and tblSchools by the DestNo. Now the user field is filtering too well and picking only the 1st record of the 4 possible users. I am trying to create a portal in a standard form view that shows a list of all the records from the same TABLE. Therefore I have a table called INVOICES. In form view I have my Invoice layout, and that generates new Invoices (records). I want to see within this Invoice layout a portal listing of all these records (Invoices). Obviously not all the fields, just a short hand reference like the kp_ID and the client name. Currently I have to 'go to layout' , list view, to see a list of these records. It would be more convenient to have this list within the form layout. Is this possible? My setup follows the kp and kf protocol. Thanks Matthew

I am attaching a sample file to try and show what it is I am trying to accomplish. In the sample file I have 4 tables. Vendors, Products, PO and PO Line items. The goal is to have the product id list in the portal on the purchase order show only the products for the vendor the po is being created for and not all the products for all the vendors. Hi all, I have a question where I can't seem to find a proper solution. I have my fields: product item, quantity quoted, quantity worked. Now these product items can be selected by the employee on a per project basis. This works fine, however where there are multiple of the same product item and I link it to the selected item number, the quantity quoted will be correct, but the quantity worked will be the same number per line item. I hope this is not to confusing. Hi there, In my solution I'm working with several portals. In these portals the users can click on a little green + icon in a portal row to go to a new layout and add a record. But always is there an extra row visible in the portal. It is not a related record. The key field is the <Nummer> field. Portal Filtering (Nummer > 0) is not working either. My situation is as follows: Table A contains data imported from excel into filemaker. I then use table B through a relationship to add data to table A after which a script will run to export data from A into another table. The problem I can't solve is if the related field has no match in table B no data will be added to table A. I'd like to be able to show the records from table A which have no match in table B based on the relationship in a portal so I can then choose which of this I should add to table B so for future use these records will be related. Hi there, Again a little issue here. I'm sure that the solution must be simple but I was not able to find it. This is the case: I have a portal in wich documents (pdf files) are added for archive purposes. It is possible to open the document by double clicking the field with the program specified in the system preferences. The field must be in browse mode for this action. In this case it is possible to erase the field content and that is what I want to avoid. Users clicking the field must not be able erase the fieldcontent. In the attached file, a project can have multiple machines and a machine can have multiple issues. I am using issues portal on project layout to collect machine issues data. But in project layout i can not select particular machine from machine list (or from machine list for a particular product). Trying to calculate the number of portal rows displaying in a filtered portal. Using FM 11. Is there a way to filter a portal through a script so that I do not have to make copies of the same layout for different filter conditions. Example: I have student grades and each grade has the term (grade year) so that I can select each years grades separately. But, I have to make the same layout for each year because I filter the portal on the layout. I have a list of contacts and I have a portal that lets me enter the first initial of person’s last name into a global field to filter the results. This is fast and works great but if the field is empty it breaks the relationship. Is there a way to have maintain the relationship and show all contacts if the field is empty? Hi ! I'm editing an old FM database. I have done this originally with FM6 (or FM7). I had to add more "boxes" to the layout. You can see the window in this link: Each of the 20 boxes are portals showing data according the Call Sign on blue box. The setup for each is identical. I have a portal showing records of Contacts, where the filter criteria are: - The contact is specified as an Ongoing Pledge (OGP) donor; - The most recent donation from them was NOT received in the current month. This displays a list of all donors with outstanding monthly donations for THIS month. My filter criteria seemed to work fine and list the right people, however I saw that after I added any donation for someone in the list - even one that was not dated in the current month - their name gets removed from the portal. The parent table is the person, and I'd like for the database to be able to generate a resume. The amount of information stored will total from between 15-80+ pages. How can I generate a Word doc or PDF resume that grows depending on the amount of information in the related tables, and is cleanly formatted? I'm working on creating an invoice portal, very similar to the one in the invoice starter solution, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to work properly. I have a pretty simple setup: Members is the ONE table Chairs and Dues are 'many' tables. Each 'many' table resides on a portal on a tab on Members. They work. In order to allow the user to print the portal information, I put a 'print button' on each portal. When pressed, it executes GTRR ... This works. I have a portal window in my application. One of the fields among the records (rows) in the portal is a service cost field from my Service table. Outside of the portal on the same layout is a Total Service Cost field (Summary field based on Total of "Service Cost"). When I delete a row I have to go to another record and back again before my Total Service Cost field displays the updated totals.
