    I've had a bit of a think on this and can't come up with an idea for a solution. I have a portal that will list employees. I want the user to mark a field next to one of the records in the portal to indicate they were in charge of the job. Anyone point me in the right direction so that the user is limited to having one record marked as "in charge" only?

  3. Not sure which forum Tabs, Scripts or Portals is best but I think here.... I'm using a tab panel with tabs A and B Tab A is a form view for the records Tab B is a portal of those same records .. which in essence gives me a list view I'd like to click on portal row, say 6 for this example, and go to object tab A record #6, click on portal row 4 and go to object tab A record #4, etc.....   7. I've got a database that keeps track of classes teachers take. Many are unique, many are classes that several teachers take. When the class is a duplicate, it's assigned a group number. I use the group number for portals to display staff that have taken the same class. I'm trying to create a set of portals on a layout where the user to see just group class names, select a class, then see the members. If I create a portal based on records that are identified as a group class, all records show, thus the name is repeated. I'm looking for a way so the name of the class just shows once.   8. I would like to use a portal to open external files. I have a portal that contains related records from another table. Each record has a related video file associated with it. In a field within that table I have a file path that leads to the external file. To back up a bit, I am hosting this database on FM Server Advanced. I want the user to click on a portal row and open the associated video file in a separate window. I can do this locally by using the Send Event to open the file and this works. However, external users cannot open the videos. Is there a way to accomplish this using another function or event? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks

  9. Dear Forum, I am building a quoting database using the separation model. I am dragging a number (a value) from one window to another window, right into the last row of a portal into a field that is the field that needs this number. However, I only want to permit this drag and drop of the number into that field IF this portal for fills certain conditions. I can easily limit the drag and drop with the FM 11 script triggers IF i am in the portal field (the on object enter). However when dragging I never enter the object (since I drag- obviously).     I'm using a portal in a report, to display multiple records in a sub-table related to the main table. There can be 1 or more instances of the records in the portal. At the moment, I have the portal set to display 10 records. However, if there are only two records, it shows 8 empty lines. Is there a way to have the portal automatically contract or expand to display all the records and no blank lines?

  11. Hello all, i have a question that maybe someone can help me with. I am trying to come up with a system that when user chooses a product from a drop down list in a portal, it is added.     I am using Filemaker Pro 10 to track registration for a "Monday school" that offers classes to homeschooled kids. We run for 5 hours, and kids take 5 classes (one per hour). I'm having trouble figuring out how to create a way to get FM to create roster lists. I'd like to have an area in my form with a portal (I'm used to access, so I'm not sure if this is the right tool to use) for simply viewing records that have been linked to the initial record, say employees linked to the company, but not have any way to input the employees on that initial form. Then I'd like to have a button that allows me to pop-up a window to input a new employee into that company. Can a portal be just for viewing? I don't see a way to set that up. Also with the buttons I see an option for popping up a new window, but not for popping up a new window and going to a different layout? How do I accomplish this? Thanks!

    I am building an Event Log. The Setup: Client Table: Client Id, Event Level 1, Event Level 2, Event Level 3 Event Log Table: (Same fields). The Tables are tied, based on the Client Id.     My portal rows when clicked by the user highlight in an ugly brown colour. Also, the portal has a picture in a container field that turns to a negative. There is a button on the portal and a scroll bar on one of the fields, so I can't put a mask over the portal to stop any row being made active. Is there a simple way to overcome this?

There is also a "grouping" table which links staff members to their club, class and team; each staff member hashas one club, one team and one class. And one more called "group roster" which relates each campers with the groups (each camper has one club, one team and one class).     I cannot find the straight answer and this seems very rudimentary... sorry. I just cannot seem to get it right. I have a table called Users with a layout of user information. There are approximately 200 records in this table. I want to create a new layout that has the entire list of students in rows. The purpose of this is to create a "Quick Link" to user information in the other layout. I was thinking portal - but it seemed to me that I need to get the list into a repeating field and use the (show range)to decide how many would be in each column.     Hi all, In my solution I'm using a portal. The relationship is very easy: id (unique value) to id_x. (one-to-many) On my layout the portal is placed on a TabControl Panel. I've placed an icon in the portal row for adding a new record in a new window.. Clicking on the icon a new window opens, I enter the data and I close the window. Nothing happens in my portal until I switch to another record or lay-out and back. When I enter the data directly in the portal everything is ok. Each row in the portal shows the dateYear and amount of the dues payment. The portal sorts on the dateYear descending. Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced Filemaker Pro 10 Server Windows 7 Pro Any time I need to change the navigation buttons on my database, I end editing one layout header part and then copying and pasting it to every other similar header part. It gets tiresome. There has to be a way make changes in one place globally and display those buttons on every header part where it's appropriate. I know that others have had this issue in the past, as I read on it a couple of years ago, but now I cannot find those forums. My question is does anybody know a work around or solutions for this issue. I know that I can simply move my graphics over a couple of pixels, but I dont like the cosmetics of it.

    I am setting up an insurance billing database for use via IWP, and I am having some trouble getting the "reporting" interface right. I'm trying to do this with a portal...this may not be the best way. Basically, I am tracking patient visits for each month.     I would like to create a portal on an ORDERS layout (table ORDERS 2008) that shows a 'found set'. For ease of use I want to design a layout with the Order on the left and a Tab Control to the right. The Tab Control will hold a series of Portals. Two of these portals currently are: 1) a list of all the Orders in descend chronological order, 2) the payment history of the Contact . These are imbedded and working.     Hello I am creating portals using Kieren MacMillan's Fast create type of portal. I am also using a calculation script to add additional data to the Line item . My problem is if I don't click on the required button to perform the script the record is commited and don't appear at the correct place in the report. What is the best way to not commit a record to the portal when clicking anywhere on the layout? I also have other fields not in portals in the layout... so I'm not sure if the layout script trigger is the solution. Thank you

    I'm working on a ordering system (purchase requisitions) that's integrated with asset, etc., tables. When order line items are created, I'd like to eliminate redundant data entry, so that if a manufacturer part number, for example, is entered in an order line item record, that is related to the asset records.     The portal that I have created has seven rows and each row has a serial number. The problem is that I need each row's serial to be unique. As of right now, the serial numbers auto enter as the same number (i.e. all seven rows have the serial number of 91, but I need 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, and then 97).     I have a portal and I want to give the user the option to delete a portal row. So I have an [x] button that calls a script that uses the delete portal row script step, but it does not delete the portal row. It does not give me any errors in the debugger. On the same layout, in another tab, is a different portal that uses the delete portal row script step in it's delete script, and it works fine. I've compared the two to see what's different. Both have the same settings in the edit relationship dialog, both have an object name for the portal. I have a table with three fields: number field: PRIORITY text field: DESCRIPTION container field: IMAGE On a separate layout I have a portal that shows the container fields, a dozen records at a time. I would like to constrain the portal to only showing images of a FOUND set. For example, if I perform a search for records that have priority equal to "2", then just those images (but ALL those images) would show up in the portal. Is there any way to filter the portal so that it only shows these records?

Groups are essentially master products and the products are style variants of the master product or product group they belong to.     Hi I am a user of Filemaker Pro 10, and I have a problem: I have a portal in a layout which has several rows, and each row has an id, and also a field called position. Sometimes there are a few portal rows with same id , but different values in position field. Now I want to have those rows of the portal which have a specific id (let's say 3) in another layout.     Hi, I have a portal with 2 fields "Action" and "date" and this works fine. The user enters "action" from a drop down list such as "Contacted buyer" or "sent email" then puts the date in the next field. Underneath I have a notes field which is just a text box. I would like the notes field to be inndividual to each row of the portal, so if you click on a port row it shows the notes for that row, click on the next row it shows the notes for that row and so on but not in the portal itself, in the notes field below it.     Hi I have a table of users who are linked to a school table by a unique number called "DestNo". Each school has 4 users attached to a school. On a layout I have set up a network group with an attached portal where I add a school as a member of this group via a popup menu. At the same time in that portal I can add via popup menu the related user (from tblUsers) I have a direct relationship between tblUsers and tblSchools by the DestNo. Now the user field is filtering too well and picking only the 1st record of the 4 possible users.     I am trying to create a portal in a standard form view that shows a list of all the records from the same TABLE. Therefore I have a table called INVOICES. In form view I have my Invoice layout, and that generates new Invoices (records). I want to see within this Invoice layout a portal listing of all these records (Invoices). Obviously not all the fields, just a short hand reference like the kp_ID and the client name. Currently I have to 'go to layout' , list view, to see a list of these records. Now these product items can be selected by the employee on a per project basis. This works fine, however where there are multiple of the same product item and I link it to the selected item number, the quantity quoted will be correct, but the quantity worked will be the same number per line item.     Hi there, In my solution I'm working with several portals. In these portals the users can click on a little green + icon in a portal row to go to a new layout and add a record. But always is there an extra row visible in the portal. It is not a related record. The key field is the <Nummer> field. Portal Filtering (Nummer > 0) is not working either. I have a portal showing records of Contacts, where the filter criteria are: - The contact is specified as an Ongoing Pledge (OGP) donor; - The most recent donation from them was NOT received in the current month. This displays a list of all donors with outstanding monthly donations for THIS month.     I have a portal window in my application. One of the fields among the records (rows) in the portal is a service cost field from my Service table. Outside of the portal on the same layout is a Total Service Cost field (Summary field based on Total of "Service Cost"). When I delete a row I have to go to another record and back again before my Total Service Cost field displays the updated totals.
