FileMaker Pro v7 – v11

These are discussions for the legacy version of filemaker 7 - 11 with the extension of .fp7

I just upgraded to 9 from 8.5 and noticed that I can no longer drag images from Safari into Filemaker container fields. I had relied on this ability heavily in 8.5. Is the ability gone now or do I need to change something to get it to work again? Thanks... Tim

Hi, thanks for helping me out on this little problem. I have a server running a regular version of FM 7, I then share it with the other networked computers, and share the data from the file open on the server. When the networked computers are using the database, they sometimes pull information from other FM databases on the server. If the databases are already open on the server, then everything works fine, but if the server only has the shared database open, and not the databases that the original reaches out to, I get error messages on the networked computers. Is there a way to allow the networked computers to use the open database, and have it reach out to…

We recently had everyone in our company upgrade to FileMaker 9 from 8.5. Every workstation runs on Mac OS 10.4.10, and the database is accessed by about 35-40 people (peak). Roughly half of the employees are at the central office on a LAN that includes the Xserve G4 server hosting the database, and the other half are in different locations around the USA. Everyone uses remote access to login regardless of whether they are on the LAN or not. Those of us at the central office have had no problems, and the database even seems to run a bit faster than it did with 8.5. However, I have received complaints from several people who access the server externally, saying that it…

Is it possible to get FM7 working properly under Vista? I am assuming it is not compatible. I have installed FM Developer 7 and it repeatedly tells me that it cannot initialize the network stack (whatever that means). This seems to be the cause of the problems because I am trying to connect to FM7 Server with no luck at all. It also cannot find the file on the FM7 Server but will load it when the file is stored locally. By the way it worked once (the first time) and then stopped working. I have re-installed Vista twice (because System Restore doesn't work) and both times it worked the 1st time and then returned to the problem. At the moment Windows Fire…

so my computer got stolen a while ago. i've now replaced it, but guess what? I can't activate fmp because I need to deactivate it first. after a lot of hunting through help files and the website I found numbers to ring, but sadly none of them are in the UK. My only option seems to be to email support so we'll see how that goes, I think I have like 10 days left to activate. It's painfully ironic that I would have had less troubles had I opted for a pirated version of the software rather than paying for it. I hope someone out there in filemaker land reads this and considers not p***ing off their userbase when v.10 comes out.

Trouble is, that line sometimes doesn't exist properly in 'Sales_Items', so the go to related record fails with error 101 (record not found). This is odd, as the data is showing in the parent record. I'm a long-time user of Filemaker 7, and I'm curious whether FM 9 has fixed a problem in the way Filemaker treats repeating fields in scripts and lookups. In FM 7, calculation fields can work with all the repetitions of a field simultaneously. That is, if VectorX and VectorY are both number fields defined as having three repetitions, you can create the calculation field VectorZ=VectorX+VectorY. But by contrast the repetitions in a repeating number field can't all be changed simultaneously in a script step with Set Field [VectorX; 2*VectorY]. You have to set the individual repetitions separately: Set Field [VectorX[2]; 2*VectorY[2]] etc. And, what is worse,…

I am developing a solution for 300,000 records. The record count will then increase 7,000 monthly. My question is, how many records can filemaker handle if it's being hosted on a xserve with mac osx 10.3 (Tiger). I also have a question on the "perform find[]" function. What kind of algorithm does it use? will the find function take a long time to search through 300,000 records? Please assume the search criteria involves 2-6 text fields. Thank you for your time, Carlos C.

There were a few references in earleir posts to disabling features in the mouse that might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas there? Thanks for any help.

I am using FM 8 server and when one of the users opens his file, he does a search on the year (2007) and whether the student was given scholarship money. When he gets the results of the search, there are the correct number or records for the search, but when he looks at the data in the records he is finding records which have no data in any of the fields. The only data seen is that which is part of a calculation from the server and not part of data for the user he is looking for. The strangest thing about this problem is that when a find is initiated, the records are found, but there is no data in the fields. I have never seen this before and don't know where to s…

Perhaps this is so simple nobody asks? I find nothing about it anywhere! I have a long-used filemaker database, and need to add new fields that were not part of the original database. I am asking about changing the database itself, not a layout that uses the fields already in the database. I need to add totally new fields that were never in the original design. Surely, a database can be modified after it is created, right? If you create a database with dozens of fields, and accidentally leave one out, There must be a simple way to add the missing field to make the database useful. This would be just like that, but after the database has been…

What exactly in FM 9 required FMI/Apple to drop win2k support? Does anybody know why? As far as I can tell, the only logical reason(s) would be: 1. Pressure from Microsoft(you would think Apple would relish the opportunity to show Windows users that they wasted their money and time buying XP) 2. Not wanting to test in the extra OS 3. Too much dependence on Windows features(which is a trap FMI/Apple has never been known to fall into) It would seem to me that FMI/Apple could have issued a warning and denied tech support to users who wished to install on win2k rather than absolutely not allowing installation. The basic underpinni…

Will FM9 now allow us to use the contacts and address tables of MacOS X Server's Open Directory (LDAP) as an external data source? If so, would this then mean that we could use these LDAP tables in a separation model ... giving us a way to centralise all Contact data into a single repository that all office systems could integrate with.
